Ye Olde Fan Girls is a project that combined the time period of the Renaissance to the modern day. Taking inspiration from our own heritages and the global craze of soccer(football) fans, we designed and made our outfits to reflect many things.

Red Knight Fan Girl (me): Hanbok is the traditional garment of Korea. While evolving over the thousands of years, the most well known version is from the Joseon period. This also happens to be the same time of the Renaissance. Around the 1400s is also when hangul was invented. To reflect this I bought hangul fabric to use for the jeogori. I also have a red paper fan with the hangul script on it. Of course with the modern twist, it is a sleeveless jeogori with a short chima. This design was heavily inspired by modern hanbok makers, especially Misung Hanbok for the jeoguri.

Blue Knight Fan Girl (sam who wrote this part): Well final product is inspired by the earasaid, which (to oversimplify) is the "lady" equivalent to a kilt. Traditionally speaking, only Highland men wore kilts, but women could wear their clan colors in a tartan in much the same fashion. An earasaid can be fashioned into a dress, a skirt, or a cape (among other things), with using only a belt and a few pins--no sewing necessary. It's a very utilitarian garment that also showed to the world your pride of your background and your lineage, depending on the colors and complexity of the tartan. Following the Jacobite rising of 1745, the "Dress Act" of 1746 was passed, banning the wearing of the kilt and other such "Highland dress" as an act of rebellion. It would take 35 years to overturn this law, and to this day the tartan is a proud Declaration of independence and rebellion for many.
