I really want to draw Kay and Vail (ship ship ship) but I just don't know their dynamic enough.

With Kay, it's really confusing to imagine her flirting because at the beginning on Toshara -when we have this mission to get an upgrade part- she's soo akward when making poorly advances at Selo that I thought she's be more of a dork in those regards.

This might sound tremendously ridiculous, but in a way, a big part of her character arc is that she get's more confident, more open to other people without using her pseudo-confidence and comedy as a defense mechanism- and in a way this can be observed in how she acts around people she likes.

Obviously Vail isn't just somebody she misttrusts simply because of her trust issues, but because Vail is literally hunting her down. But even then you can feel how refreshing it is for Kay to have somewhat of a clearance and validation of her insecurities. And this develops into a more of a rival-to-friends to...lovers(?) delulu brain go brr

She just acts way more confident when Vail is around. Especially in the end pre-credits scene.

Anyway~ because I find this dynamic so layered and Kays personality so... so... developed(?!?) during the game, it's really hard to get the right image into my head.

Part of my creative process is to find the right angle- the right approach to my drawings. They aren't even that good most of the time but I find if an art piece envokes the right feeling in you and captures the nature of its muse, it could very well be a dot on blank paper and still be a masterpiece.

So I might wait till I get something out. It might take time.

Personally, I don’t think I can come to terms with that, I’ve always disliked D’s character and everything she stands for. In some ways (white savior, western conquest) her character offends me on a personal level. I used to admire Jon’s character and Tyrion’s for that matter. But they both fell in my eyes when they proved themselves ordinary and joined the Dragon lady’s posse. I now think Sansa deserves better than Jon, though I know it almost impossible to expect more from men.

(2) I pretty much only ship Jonsa now because I know it’s inevitable. I’m so disappointed in Jon; his character has been a big let down last season.             

Dear nonny, I call it the khaleesi virus.... Once a character comes within shouting distance of Da€nerys his brain power shuts down to a sleepy modus and can only process thoughts of awe and wonder at the beauty that is the dragon queen and her ‘good heart’. So far, it has affected every male character. Cersei seemed to be immune but that’s Cersei the lioness for you! Since you feel let down by Jon you seem not to be convinced by ‘political Jon’. Maybe he’ll gain on you again next season. If Jon is ‘political Jon’ then his immune system was fully functional.

My dislike for D also goes a while back and as a German I was highly misttrusting of a blonde white character who believes in the speciality of her descendancy as a saviour. I mean this happens in fantasy but usually in novels who are far below GRRM in quality. Her character does not offend me, I think she is extremely well written, but the showversion is worse. This is due to the issue of poc in the D scenes. I mean to read about the savage Dothraki is one thing, but to see them, and to see how they play into racist tropes is another thing. Also in the books the peoples of Essos are more diverse. Iirc there is a people called the ‘milk peope’ who are extremely white and are slaves.

You know, if I were 100% sure, that the show goes for antagonist Da€nerys, all the cringey scenes like the ‘Mhysa scene’ could get a whole new outlook in retrospect and could be a clever comment on our viewing expectations. But tbh I don’t think that D&D are subtle enough for that.

Although I fully expect D to become an antagonist to the Starks I doubt that the white saviour trope as such will be deconstructed by intention. I suspect they will just let these scenes stand as they are. This is a pity, in a way. Still, if DarkDany happens then scenes like the Mhysa scene might still be seen different in hindsight, even if the show does not stress that. I mean, visuals and their impact are also a phenomenon that is influenced by the audience. I would say that there is good potential to deconstruct the white saviour with Missandei, but we’ll see if the show includes this conflict.

If the writers say ‘we didn’t mean that scene as a comment on the white saviour trope’ we as audience can still say, ‘but we understood it that way.’ Making shows and literature is communicative situation, and even though the writers’ might think that they did not comment on the white saviour trope, nevertheless they might still do it subconsciously. Because in every work of art, there is also a subconscious level of discussion about society’s problems. A work of art can be read beyond the author’s intention. I sincerely hope that this will happen with the D scenes after season 8 is done.

If D&D did not want to allude to the white saviour trope they should have been way more careful with their visuals if you ask me.

So much for Da€nerys, as for Jon I beg to differ or at least I would ask you to withhold your judgement on the ‘Northen fool’ until season 8. He might have been cleverer than you thought.

I shipped Sansa with happiness way before I came up with the idea of Jonsa, and I still think that to be with Jon would be a chance for happiness for her! Hope you agree, at least after season 8
