does the bbc even understand how much money they’d make if the made a Disney Enchanted 2007 style Merlin sequel where Merlin has been alive, moving from place to place, magicking himself young and aging then moving and magicking himself younger and aging then moving and suddenly Arthur pops out of a lake, completely unaware of current events and is walking around demanding his manservant, claiming to be King Arthur Pendragon and he either
a. Gets on the news somehow and Merlin, doing whatever he’s doing now, sees and drops everything because WHAT IS ARTHUR DOING HERE AND ALIVE
b. Meets Merlin who has been working as a detective somewhere -because that’s basically what he did anyway-solving things and helping people, the family business, and Arthur is dragged in, handcuffed, and plopped in an interrogation room or the drunk tank with the cop who found him saying like This wacko thinks he’s some medieval king, go deal with him, and Merlin scoffs and walks in, promptly dropping his files and spilling his coffee when he sees a disheveled and petulant Arthur, who goes Merlin, finally, get me out of here already, will you and Merlin starts crying lmaooo
or c. Meets Merlin who has been working at an ER because, again, he was physician adjacent, and someone drags a wet Arthur in, like Found this, it looks like he might hypothermiate deal with him, and Merlin sees him, drops his files, spills his coffee, and starts crying hahaha
because I’m thinking that’d be fun and probably everyone on tumblr and everyone who knows someone on tumblr would go bonkers over it

How I Would Write The Well If The BBC Trusted Me To Play With Their Toys
Immediately, I'd scrap the idea of a squadron team. It means too much competence and contingency, we know that these people are prepared or trained for dangerous situations. Have the Doctor & Belinda step out or crash into a mining pod or scavengers group who are trying to see if there's anything valuable on the surface of a long dead planet. Have it that the 'galvanic radiation' is mucking with the vindicator so they're stuck on the planet for an hour or so, so they join up.
Have it be a smaller team, about two or three people, all friendly and familiar with each other. Familiar crew, all making the best of what they can, travellers in the universe. They stumble across the mining operation and same setup, every body they find is dead, only by laser fire.
They find Aliss, same as the episode, having just attacked her friend, but her friend wasn't killed, just sealed in a freezer. Aliss shares 'only I have the code to open it, they don't want to risk soldiers stealing food'. Aliss shares that she had a gun, but couldn't shoot, unauthorised personnel, Doctor jokes that fridges are more useful anyway and traditional 'no guns' lil moment. There's no noise, and no footage, but sonic screwdriver says that life signs inside are steady.
Side note, I'd like to play off of Oxygen with the whole 'paying to breathe' thing, except it's paying to speak. Aliss has a pair of gloves that verbalise sign for her, but she has to pay to charge it. Doctor hacks it with Sonic Screwdriver of course, but it could be a real world parallel of how it's expensive to be disabled, how you have to pay to access the treatment and accessibility aids that permit an individual lifestyle.
Aliss says 'it came from the sky' and the Doctor is like 'what is it' and Aliss says 'a ghost'.
Immediate sort of Red Herring where Aliss shared that the commander of the base investigated the Well, standard mechanical/maintenance checks, and then all of a sudden went up to the highest point of the plant. When they went to get him he was speaking in tongues, like there were a hundred voices within him, all saying different things. Buy occasionally he would break through, with no collection of what 'the ghost' was saying. He tried to remove the safety field, which would expose them all to Galvanic Radiation' and was shot by second in command.
But then the second in command started being haunted, but not by the tongues, by the commander. It was his words, his mannerisms, even his language. This time they asked what the thing was and where it came from, and it responds 'Sky'.
Aliss shares that people panicked and destroyed each other. That she didn't want to hurt her friend but she was scared. And rescue missions are too expensive for one cook (future stage capitalism for the win). Doctor asks what species' were on board, Aliss rattles off about ten or so, none of them human, which Belinda and the Doctor thinks is odd.
Scavengers of course want to leave, offer to take Aliss, but the Doctor points out that she might be controlled by the ghost. The scavengers are all like 'don't be a dick' but the Doctor points out that the issue with two survivors is that you can't tell which survived the other. Have it be a moment where he's clearly apologetic, but he can't be certain. Have Aliss agree, make some joke about 'I'm a cook, I know how deadly a contagious infection can be.' Have her also say that she doesn't want to give up on her friend, that as long as there's life, there's hope. Immediately sets up that these are good people, all who live normal lives, but don't want to hurt people, even if it means saving themselves.
Classic Investigation of the environment, checking the well as per episode, finding footage of people murdering each other, Belinda horrified, Doctor says fear and desperation are the biggest causes of death in the universe. 'It makes you fight. Creeps into your head. And whispers.'
Aliss has a moment with the doctor where she says that she pulled the trigger. That the shot didn't fire, because she was unauthorised, but she's haunted by the fact that she chose to kill. 'Is that what I amount to? Murder?'. Doctor says that she didn't choose to kill her friend. She could have removed all the air from the freezer, or messed with the controls. 'You chose to fire, you were scared. But you didn't choose to kill'. Doctor also says 'it feels familiar' with Belinda saying 'more than a thousand years travelling the universe, everything should be familiar to you'.
Doctor shrugs it off, decides to go to the observation point where the commander was infected, tries to see any breaches in the ceiling. Scavengers offer for Aliss to join them when she despairs about what happens next, Belinda points that out to the Doctor. Tells him 'you're wrong. Because fear and desperation can do that, too. Travelling with you, I've never been more scared in my life. But I never thought I'd see something like that. Just listen.'
Something clicks, and the Doctor clearly freezes. Looks up and says 'Sky' and then says 'I've said that before.' Belinda's all like 'what?' and the Doctor goes 'what did I say, by the pit, by the well? I've said that before, when did I say that?' Flashback to Doctor going 'It makes you fight. Creeps into your head. And whispers' intercut with the same dialogue being said by the tenth Doctor during 'Midnight' while being possessed by the entity. Doctor has the same sort of breakdown as he does in the episode, asking Aliss 'what was the grey star, before, what was the old name of the planet' etc. Unravelling the mystery.
Running back down to the sealed fridge while he explains
Doctor: 'You asked her two questions, who she was and where she came from. She came from the Well, clawed her way up until she found warm meat and didn't stop climbing until she reached the observation deck and she realised she'd made it.'
Belinda: 'Then why did she say Sky?'
Doctor: 'Because that was Mrs Silvestry's name. And she remembers.'
Scavengers and Aliss clearly confused, and the Doctor brings up footage of the Captain 'speaking in tongues'. Isolates the voices and it's all from the episode 'Midnight', from the Doctor to Jethro to DeeDee, and cumulating with the Doctor saying 'all right Sky? Turn around'. They all turn around, and Aliss is there.
The Doctor: 'Is that what you amount to? Murder?'
Aliss: 'I said that.'
The Doctor: 'So did I. 400,000 years ago.'
Uncertainty whether Aliss is 'possessed' or not, as the Doctor admits it would be hard to tell. 'When we left, it was already close to a perfect copy. And it's had months to tear this base apart. It could be any of us.' Same monologue as the episode 'a different life, no face, no name, no self'.
Doctor: 'It tried to throw me out into the radiation of an Xtonic star once, I don't think it would think twice about trapping the last survivor in a freezer.'
Scavenger: "Would it think twice about murdering her? If it is the same entity, would it tell us everything?'
Doctor: 'That's the thing, I don't know who's talking. The scavenger who travels the universe, just to see what's been left behind? Or Mrs Silvestry, who dug her way out 400,000 years later, and murdered an entire base, just to stay warm.'
Belinda, sharp: 'Shut up.'
Doctor: 'Why. Because it sounds familiar?'
Belinda: 'Because you sound scared and desperate.'
Doctor, pausing, evaluating: 'You're not fighting. You're not... Screaming and turning on each other and trying to throw each other out to save yourself. Why?'
Aliss: 'I chose to kill someone to save myself. Not just someone, my friend. And she's alive, but I still made that choice. And I know that that's not something I can live with. I like to believe I'm better than that.'
Scavengers: 'You live like we do, travel like we do, you see the universe different. It can be scary, the people you meet on dead planets, the things you have to do. I'm sure you've seen a lot of scary things, Doctor, so have we. But we've never met something that gets better by behaving worse.'
Belinda: 'The Human Race is gone. If the world ends in 2025, that means, I'm the last of my kind. And I can't let them down.'
Doctor, after a long pause: 'Trust me?'
Belinda: '... Yes.'
Doctor: 'Still?'
Belinda: 'You don't sound scared anymore.'
Doctor opens the freezer, and the remaining survivor steps out, alive, and relieved to see Aliss. Aliss apologises, but the other (I'm calling her Mo) says it wasn't her fault. Says she woke up in the freezer, like a really tight helmet had been removed. Doctor says he felt the same way. Mo asks 'who are you' and the Doctor said 'if you really are Mo, I'm the only other person in the universe who has survived whatever destroyed this base.' Seals the freezer shut behind her and asks for everyone to listen.
Doctor says that is the entity is with them now, he's addressing it directly. Admits he's scared, that very little in the universe has scared him, but that day, he was scared. Lists the passengers of the flight, starting with Mrs Silvestry, and ending with the flight attendant (showing that he learned her name since then). 'We were all scared.'
Everyone looking at each other, clearly wondering what he's trying to do.
Doctor continues, saying that they were scared, and desperate, and that was probably a pretty bad introduction of humanity. Asks how long it had been waiting, out in the cold, with the diamonds, because 'i saw time in your mind. It keeps me awake, how long you waited in the cold'.
A bang rings out, and it could be a coincidence.
The Doctor says 'you were new, and unexpected, and didn't know what it was to feel and you met us at our worst. And then when you got a chance to find us again, we kept shooting you. Every time you tried to find a voice, every time you tried to talk. Because you make us scared, you make us desperate, because you never knew we could be anything else. A bit like me. I didn't know how not to be scared of you, so I scared everyone else.'
Doctor looks around, careful, like he can see something. Looks straight at Belinda.
Says that today was a good day. That today, he'd remembered that fear, desperation, it can make people kind. He hopes that 'whoever you are, you learned that as well'.
He stands, and Mo stops him. Asks if he's mental, if he thinks talking to the creature will stop it? Doctor says that he hopes for that every day, and it usually works out. Mo says that she can't leave, and the Doctor asks if she was listening, because she has all the information she needs. Mo, of course, is confused. Doctor lists off the species that were on board the plant, and mentions that out of all of them, Mo was the only one who was cold blooded. Which didn't mean anything, until she was left in a freezer to grow cold. Says that once, long ago this planet was cold as well, and a monster slept surrounded by diamonds. Says that, if they're very lucky, maybe the cold has drawn it back to sleep.
Aliss is clearly overjoyed, as is Mo, but Mo still asks, what if they're not lucky? The Doctor admits that he doesn't know. That he can't control the universe, it's never ended well when he's tried. But he can try and show something new, something that might be the first of it's kind, might be the last, who knows, he can try and show her some kindness. Maybe she'll learn something.
Sends the scavengers, Aliss and Mo away and him and Belinda sit in the Tardis. She asks if he really thinks that 'whatever it is' is in hibernation and he says he doesn't know. Brings up a map of the universe as it is now. Points out that 'over there, a war is going to break out, wipes out whole swathes of the sector. Like all wars, started over nothing but fear and a whisper in someone's ear. Over here, twenty stars implode, a galactic mystery, nobody will ever figure out why. There, the first recorded sighting of a man eating shadow, piranhas in dust motes. Then again, four hundred thousand years, maybe people have learned, and maybe she did too. Maybe she's just, listening, following, haunting. Everywhere has ghosts. And here-' big swipe to nothing, empty space, Doctor falters. 'Point is, there's plenty of monsters in the universe. Let's just hope that we left ours in a freezer on a forgotten planet, not the middle of the universe'
Belinda (looking at the empty space): middle of the universe.
Doctor violently flinches at the repetition, callback to Midnight and going 'don't-just' and Belinda hugging him (potentially first hug in the season? Not certain?)

Boruto would be 1000% better if Sasuke left Konoha for months at a time but visited in-between them.
If we want ss to actually be a proper relationship Sakura and Sarada can travel with him once a year so they actually like. Have a real relationship. Probably should happen during March so he's there for some important dates. Sakura could spread medical ninjutsu and heal poor villages, Sarada could learn about other cultures and actually have a whole family. Sasuke doesn't have to be in a village that activelly assisted in the ethnic cleansing of his clan for long at a time and can replace the memory's of empty houses and ghosts with spending time with family and hanging out with his friends. Then he can leave after a week or so when it gets a bit stressful.
Also i think they should get a cat.
There we go! I fixed Boruto. Everybody clap for me now!!!

totk made me feel like i got scammed so badly i dont think i want to get any new zelda on release and instead wait until i know its worth it
im afraid zelda will turn into half baked games with flashy imagery to distract you from its shitty writing and superficial references to older games to catch your nostalgia, that the name alone will sell anyway so why try

Watching Agatha All Along again after giving up on Marvel for three years made me think about why I gave it up in the first place.
I was so deep in the MCU. I cried so much during Infinity War that I struggled to walk out of the cinema. I watched Endgame on the first day that it was released. My diary was a CACW notebook. Part of the reason I took up STEM subjects was because of Marvel.
And then after watching MoM in theatres, I stopped.
I'm trying to phrase and figure out what made me give up something I was so invested in, something I loved so much. I think I know why.
The MCU period I was active in gave me characters that I ended up loving, and the later period took them away.
My two favourite characters were ruined. Their character arcs and core characters undone. I'm worried about my favourite too.
I hate it when the sequel undermines the previous works.
When I think of Steve Rogers, I don't think of the guy who chose to either fuck up the entire timeline of the MCU or sat quietly and watch the world in turmoil, his allies die tragically, and his best friend left to a fate worst than dead to get with a girl he wasn't even dating, a woman who had a life of her own and moved on.
I think of Steve from CATWS, the guy from Brooklyn who still does the right thing in a time when morals are blurred. The Steve who is kind, compassionate and brave. The Steve who inspired the base-level employees of SHEILD to follow his example and not bow down in the face of tyranny. The Steve who just had one mission, and that was standing up to bullies.
When I think of Wanda, I don't think of the insane, manic witch/evil goddess who killed thousands mercilessly even though there was a harmless solution, who after all she lost, somehow only wanted her children who she had for three days instead of also her love and her twin.
I think of Wanda, the girl who lost it all, who's family was all killed, who was denied a burial for Vision, who was left alone and abandoned in the world, with so much love in her heart that no longer had a place, a person to go to. The girl who feels so much so deeply that it bended reality. The girl who had to learn, who had to give up her dream, but did so, because at the end of the day, she is a kind person, who doesn't want to hurt people. She was wrong, she takes time to understand and accept the harm she's caused (as we all do), and then makes it right. She tries to be good. Despite everything, she tries.
The later stages of MCU took these two characters that mean so much to me personally, and ruined them.
And I'm fucking mad at them, because it disrespected all the work that made me love them in the first place, and it was preventable. (The original script for MoM where Wanda helps Strange but repeatedly gets tempted by the Darkhold is a much more convincing narrative.)
And I'd say the same applies to others: Natasha, Thor, Bruce, even Strange (although I feel like they never really figured out what they wanted to do with Strange's character)
I miss my characters, I miss my MCU.

i think it's time that we as a society realized that actually eternals wasn't bad it was just not standard marvel fare and that's okay
#maybe i'm biased#it is my favorite marvel movie after all#but i truly think so much of the hate was that it was a diverse cast with overtly pro-choice messaging that freaked marvel fans out#is it flawed? yes. but all marvel movies are#but something about that found family and cast and creative team that clearly cared deeply about the story they were telling really got me#there was so much care put into the making of it!#lauren ridloff (makkari) made name signs for all the characters because she is actually deaf and wanted to make the film good representatio#and all the cast learned basic sign language so they could talk to her on and off the set#it's so unlike every other marvel movie and that's why i love it#it's not afraid to push boundaries and be strange and make mistakes#and i'm so sad that it will never get a sequel because there was so much potential for those characters and their stories#i wanted to see makkari and druig realize they love each other#i wanted to see them deal with the fallout of their actions#i wanted to see the family fracture and then see them all find their way back to each other#i wanted to see more queer representation in a character of color whose whole story wasn't all about being queer and isn't just a cameo#i wanted more!#and i'm not afraid to admit it!#maybe it would have been better as a tv show but i dunno. i switch thoughts about that a lot#i think the alternating timeline was really interesting and kept me engaged the whole time but i am definitely in the minority for that one#but i also don't like endgame so. you know. maybe i can't be trusted#anyway that was a whole ass essay#if you read all that hope you enjoyed. drink some water. give yourself a pat on the back. i love you.#the eternals#marvel#drukkari

IRENE STORYTIME BECAUSE IT WAS ABOUT TIME I am deeply sorry this will be a little long;;
Irene Relda, also known as "Mademoiselle Ratler" (based on a headcanon by Frankilew on DA in which the mice society changes the last names of those who are of different species, for example Ratigan instead of Flanigan) or "The Witch of Geinburg Street" is a female rodent born as a cross between a rat and a mouse, who lives apart from society due to discrimination and therefore is tired of everyone and everything(?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is usually quiet and reserved, not showing emotions too often... But she's a gentle sweetheart deep down. And despite having quite the character and strenght, she is always willing to lend a helping hand to those who are not hostile towards her.
VOICE HEADCANON: Miss Spider (Voiced by Susan Sarandon in "James and the Giant Peach")
Irene´s mother was a rat of French origin who worked as a maid after moving to Mousedom, where she hoped to have a good life that unfortunately, she did not find. The father on the other hand was a well-to-do man, a prestigious professor or investigator at Scotland Yard…. But obviously, he could not accept the fact that the world knew that he had had a daughter with a maid who was, on top of that, a rat, so he fired the mother immediately and she took their child with her.
Tumblr media
Irene didn't have the best childhood, but she was happy as long as she could be with her mother despite the difficulties she had to face (being a rat in a mouse society, single woman with a daughter who is a crossbreed, etc.). Sadly, there was a point when Irene's mother passed away and the girl had to raise herself from then on.
Tumblr media
As she grew up, Irene acquired skills such as cleaning, sewing, and generally doing other household chores. She also knew a lot about herbs since, due to not having many resources, she could not afford to get sick often, so she could resort to the use of plants and natural healing methods.
Tumblr media
Thanks to her skills she was able to follow in her mother's footsteps and worked as a maid, offering a good service regardless of the salary, but for various circumstances she was mostly dismissed: either because of her condition, because she was accused of acts she had not committed or simply because the ladies of the household did not like her (or were envious of her for a reason she could not understand).
She worked for a duchess at some point, who was actually a covert criminal who went by the name "Dolleyes" (huge shoutout to @rexmk0153universe-blog for suggesting her name and for helping me come up for so many ideas for this sequel au!!): her plans were based on getting in touch with or marrying rich men and then murdering them in order to keep their posessions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One unfortunate day Irene witnessed one of the Duchess' crimes, so in exchange of her silence, she was fired (although she took revenge later… Let's say she offered Dolleyes an apology cake that had a dirty surprise and that hurt the noblewoman's ego while the queen of Mousedom witnessed everything (?) basically that cake scene from "The Help".)
Tumblr media
From that humiliation, a lot of rumors about Irene began to spread. They said things of the sorts that she was a witch who stole valuables, tricked and seduced husbands, kidnapped children and ate them, or poisoned and even cursed those who upset her.
Tumblr media
From the moment the rumors began, Irene had more difficulty getting a job because no one wanted to hire her, so she lived hand to mouth, and (perhaps do clothing comissions from time to time). The only hope she had was to be able to save enough money to go to France, which was her mother's homeland and where they wanted to return years ago before she died.
What Irene did not know though, is that shortly after she was going to help a very injured person one rainy night without knowing that it was a criminal mastermind. And from then on her life changed and she went from living alone having to endure the antics of a villain 24/7.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Irene's relationship with Ratigan fluctuates. They generally argued and disagreed in nearly everything- But there was a point when she realized the subtle detail that he never called her "rat" or something negative in relation to that aspect of her being, which she found strange considering he seemed to detest rats and he flatly denied being one himself… But out of respect, Irene didn't call him that any longer (although there were many times when she made him angry on purpose because knowing that he couldn't do anything to her in his current state amused her and one time she even used his old bell to tease him, which she took from Basil's house).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regarding Ratigan's bell, the detective planned to search for it himself, but just then Olivia arrived with a reformed Fidget and volunteered. The bat, however, told her not to do it since he was paranoid that the professor was alive, even though he had been presumed dead after his fall from Big Ben… But Olivia's curiosity was greater and she prepared to investigate on her own. In fact, upon hearing the rumors of the witch she felt more convinced to continue (in some Disney Adventure comics, she and Fidget investigated paranormal events, so I imagine she likes that stuff).
In the end she arrived at Irene's house, but the woman tried to intimidate her and throw her out without Ratigan finding out that the girl was there. To her surprise, Olivia returned a few days later and repeatedly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ratigan eventually found out that Irene was talking to Olivia, but suddenly offered the lady a deal… If she approached Basil through Olivia and managed to get the detective to lower his guard in order to take him down, Ratigan would leave her home as soon as he recovered, never to return, and would give her the money she needed to travel to France.
Irene, in order to get the professor off her back, accepted, and technically the scheme worked through the means of seduction (to Ratigan's confused displeasure because he had mixed feelings about Irene as the plan went by) but Basil snapped out of it soon enough and Ratigan lost again and fleed… He didn't give Irene the money however-
Tumblr media
She and Basil talked things out later though, apologizing for trying to trick him. Despite how the two would clash at times, Irene and the detective got along rather well, and from that point she helped him and Dawson with some of their cases, one of them which involved Dolleyes, who intended on marrying Ratigan only to kill him and pull out a Corpse Bride kind of plan after...
She also grew close to Olivia and Fidget, specially the latter since he ended up becoming like an adopted son of hers. So in their own ways, slowly, they heal together from the loneliness and mistreatment they had recieved on their lives.

(Also yes the "caling people by any last names but their actual one" thing will be a running gag hehoo)

King Magnifico Backstory Part 3
Part 2
On the Princesses 18th birthday, a strange messenger came to the castle, with a desperate plea.
"Princess Maroula, my mistress, the Keeper of the Wishing Stars, who granted both you and your father life, needs your aid. There is a quest that only one such as you can fulfill. A dangerous quest but a necessary one for the good of all people within this world and the EverRealm. She has done what she can herself, but her gaze is stretched thin by her obligations. We ask that you leave as soon as possible, if you are willing to come and aid us.”
And the princess, always kind of heart, and remembering the conversation in the garden all those years ago was willing
But her father was not.
Tumblr media
“How dare your mistress ask this dangerous task of my daughter! She knows the perils that exist in that realm, that befell me. She did nothing to aid me in my troubles, why should she ask to place my daughter in peril now?”
“The Blue Lady is young, in the way of her people, she had only recently taken over this charge when your misfortunes befell you, and she has sorrowed over them ever since. She granted you your daughter in part as penance for that failure. But still she has her duties, and she has foreseen a threat that only as deeply linked to Wishes as Maroula is can combat. Would you see an entire realm suffer for what was done to you?”
Maroula knew the anger born from his past heartache, which her father usually tried to keep under control, beginning to rise, and tried to sooth him
“Father, I am willing to go. You and Mother have taught me well in both the use of magic and the need to be generous in helping others. Please, let me go and help the Lady. How can I call myself a princess of Rosas and not do so?”
Tumblr media
“No Maroula!” The King cried, his fear for his daughter and anger getting the best of him. “I won’t allow it! What right has this fairy to grant my greatest wish, give our happiness tangibility and then take it away!”
“She’s not taking me away Father, she’s only asking that I—“
“Enough!”
The king turned and dismissed the messenger coldly from his sight, demanding that it never return, for his daughter would not be going to the other realm, now or ever.
“That choice is the Princess Maroula’s.” The messenger said as it left, unfazed by the king’s anger. “She is a woman grown now, able to make her own choices, even if they are not what you would choose for her. If she wishes to go, then she may go”
“Then I shall insure she cannot!”
And with that, the king used his magics to open up a room, deep deep beneath the castle, a room he had discovered upon taking claim of the castle, (a room where he had found a dangerous and deceptive tome of magic). Here he wove about with his spells and enchantments so that he was sure no star’s light could find his daughter.
“I don’t wish to leave you here Maroula, but I must keep you safe, at all costs. Let that other place deal with its own problems. You will stay here until you’ve learned to see sense”
And so the king left his daughter crying in the dark, as his gentle queen cried in the palace above, torn between supporting her husband in keeping their daughter safe from unknown danger, and supporting her daughter’s generous wish to help
Tumblr media
What neither realized, is that there was one small opening within the dungeon, a keyhole that the king had failed to account for, a keyhole through which a single thin strain of starlight came through and found the weeping princess. The princess beheld the light, and taking the power within her, she wished upon the star
And the star answered
But what came after for Princess Maroula is a story for another time…
Tumblr media
The king and queen sought day and night for their daughter, but even with all his powers, either the power of the Lady of the Wishing Stars was greater, or Maroula was using her own to avoid her father’s search. Even his wishing her back did nothing. And so the king and queen fell into despair, knowing their daughter was lost forever.
Is this the thanks I get for granting everyone else’s wishes all these years? To have my own daughter run from me? I’ve cared for her from the day she was born, given her everything and and she still decides to defy and disrespect me with this rebellion?!”
At last, the king, letting his anger over this perceived betrayal overcome his grief, decided that they could no longer go on as they had, and so he crafted a spell that would enable them to move forward
He asked his wife to give to him her wish for their daughter’s return, gifting it to him to hold onto until it could be granted. And as Amaya gave him her wish, trusting that one day it would come true—the memory of her daughter left her entirely, along with the grief of her loss. Letting her forget without the weight of regret…
Tumblr media
From then on, the king utilized this spell whenever it came time to grant his people’s wishes, holding on to them in perpetuity, instead of granting them on sight. Having lost the love of his daughter, he tried to substitute it with the love he felt imbibed in each wish as he guarded them, keeping them safe as he couldn’t protect her. Each person who gave him their wish forgot it, and so Magnifico intended to ensure that not only would no unworthy wish be granted, but no wish would lead to the heartbreak he had suffered
Despite his anger at his daughter, over the years he took many other apprentices, seeking to fill the void she had left, even granting their and their families wishes when he usually would have declined to—but none of them ever filled the place of his beloved Maroula.
And as the years passed, his anger over her loss, the heartbreak of his past, and his frustration over watching everyone’s wishes be granted but his own began to harden the king’s heart, and a darkness grew beneath his pristine exterior, waiting for the day until he felt threatened enough in his power and control to break loose…

every year around this time I rewatch Julie and the Phantoms, and every year I am reminded how much heart this little tween show about grief and hope has
#more thoughts in the tags#it is at times what the kids call 'cringe' - or it would be - if it wasn't so earnest#sometimes you don't need a perfect budget or 20-somethings pretending to be teenagers#or a large following or sequel appeal#sometimes you don't need big complicated anythings to make a story that ought to be told or a show that ought to be seen#sometimes you need to cast children as child characters#and come up with a theme that everyone can feel on some level [death] [hope] [love]#and choose loud colorful costumes and big cheesy music numbers and silly gags and over-the-top bully characters for the FUN of it#and pour every ounce of heart you've got into it and if netflix cancels it after one season? you gave that one season your all#jatp#there's a difference between big-budget stories written to profit from lust or shock or violence--#--and stories that are written for younger people and dealing with something people of all ages will eventually encounter#stories that are written about characters who lean on loved ones and focus on what they can do with what they've got#characters who are determined not to waste their lives or the gifts they've been given and instead to push on with excellence#specifically in order to benefit others#and what a bonus if the young lead actress is an incredibly-talented darling who is not sexualized by any part of the show in any way#what a bonus-bonus if the other protagonists are three good-looking dead dudes from the 90's (just because the writers COULD)#who are so openly affectionate and brotherly and huggable that you genuinely watch and think 'I hate that they died'. and you're SUPPOSED t#that it perfectly portrays what a real healthy best-friendship looks like - both for girls AND boys#that it perfectly portrays what TEENAGERS can be like#(not the high school. the high school is insane. it is cartoonish. I am 98% sure current high schools aren't blue and furry like that.)#and the main ship? luke and julie? that is seven-layer bean dip romance right there#like an onion. LAYERS to unpack#they did not have to make the ghost boy who seems most unbothered by death go back to his parents' home and weep#where he thought no one could see him. weep over lost time and past mistakes he can never take back. because he was loved#and loved unconditionally even if things were hard sometimes. kids need to see that in shows#they need to see that good parents are not perfect AND good parents love you. and that YOU are not always right#and that life is too short to let the sun go down on your freaking anger. open up your mouth and talk to the people you love and try.#the nuance of the bully character? that Carrie is a hard worker and talented JUST LIKE JULIE#and using it for ALL the wrong reasons in all the wrong ways
