I am thus far four for five on Supernatural actors that I've checked their imdb and it turns out they were on an episode of Monk at some point
#there's a lot of overlap in these guys' filmography since they all did a lot of genre stuff#mark sheppard and jeffrey dean morgan specifically seem to have spent a lot of their careers just missing each other#(thus far i've checked sheppard morgan pellegrino beaver and misha#i've also looked at jackles jadalecki and connell's but i haven't gone through the actual list since i was on their pages for other reasons#i don't THINK they've been on monk but i wasn't checking so i don't count them)

listen i’m not an expert on misha’s filmography so idk how prevalent of a role he has in all of these projects, his imdb is very long and confusing. a few people were looking for stonehenge apocalypse on the other poll so i was sure to include it here. couldn’t fit everything but lmk if you have another favorite!

I get that it's quite silly and projective at best, and at worst parasocial and intrusive to speculate the way we do about actors' potential interest in one another in the fashion of rpf-- think of your Jensen ackles/ Misha Collins spectacle for a reference point-- but. And I say this in the most 'huh I wonder if this is anything' way, not in a 'rpf is completely fine and bereft of criticism as a concept' way. There is something there about how, for some men, acting might be the only avenue to have intensely intimate scenes that involve touching the skin of one another, with the cover of it being a 'job' to shield from the normal social faux pas that would normally indict a man for doing that. Intricate rituals and all that, for what is filmography on a whole if not an excuse to portray voyeuristic examples of extremely intimate portrayal of humanity?

Year 2044:
"Yeah, I have a Ph.D. programme in Philology, Literature, and Performance studies, I wrote a dissertation on the origins of modern filmography: how Supernatural revolutionated the concept of main and taught to the posterity the concept of underexposure as a way to success. The Misha Collins case."
it would be so funny if, ten years from now, supernatural is known as the misha collins show and all these retro tv nerds getting into it are super confused why the main actor only shows up four seasons in and never for more than a handful of episodes

Y’all I ate an edible and now I’m watching Par 6 and I’m fucking shitting myself over this scene and I can’t stop thinking about Dean being the girl that works at the auto shop and being all grabby with Cas and like Cas seems like he isn’t interested seriously but you can tell they both are obsessed with each other and eventually after being just like fwb they fall in love and oh god I love this help me I’m high and losing it

I am jealous of Misha Collins for one reason and that reason is that he got to sit next to THE Winona Ryder in Girl Interrupted
#honestly his career was all downhill from there as far as i'm concerned#also at all the jared stans who insult misha's filmography like hm? excuse me? did your man get to be in a scene with winona ryder?#take a walk#i'm in a mood apparently lmao

Acting anon again. I agree it's cockiness. When he was younger he at least had a sincerity about him. They had to get it right or they'd get fired. Then come s8-9 and it's like... Haha you can't fire me you NEED me.
And to hear Jen talk about Dean and then Jared is like "Sam is the best" but he doesn't talk about Sam. Sam is a character to him and it shows. Dean is a person to Jensen and it shows.
I watched a good bit of Walker (before I could just not handle the poor writing) and I watch Big Sky.
Jared has a part in WRITING AND PRODUCING HIS CHARACTER and yet Jensen understands Beau far more than Jpad understands Walker and idek how that's possible.
Walker had potential but failed in so many aspects. While I watch Big Sky just for Beau and it's one of my favorite shows right now.
There's just a different caliber.
Well Jensen has taken what he was given in Supernatural and expounded on his craft, Jared is riding the high of being famous. He's popular because he's Jared padalecki not because he's a good actor. He's that guy from supernatural. Jensen on the other hand, is a fantastic actor who knows what he's doing. That's why he can be in so many different things. No matter what show he's in he becomes popular. It's not because of Supernatural it's because of him. While I don't think anyone watched Walker that didn't come from Supernatural.
There's nothing wrong with watching a show after seeing the actors in supernatural. That's what I did for several of even Jensen stuff. But people love him even without ever seeing him as dean. Because he's that good of an actor.
Anyway...
Didn't mean to rant lol
No, no, please rant! I'm so beyond stoked that you wrote back; please keep doing so as long as you wish to!
And your points continue to be spot-on; the increased job security seems to have gone to his head in the worst possible way, and, at this point, he's acting for the fame and not famous for the acting. The only reason this might be sustainable is that, as you said, people from SPN will follow him to his new projects, and there are enough Sam stans that it might be halfway feasible. In any other person --- and, I want to say, in him, too, though his fanbase will probably prove me wrong --- this would be the pride before the fall. His hubris is definitely a character defect; it's just not clear if it's his classically Fatal Flaw.
But you're absolutely right about how they treat their characters. I've seen a ton of jokes about how Jensen's one of the biggest fangirls among us, and --- in addition to being funny --- they're just downright accurate; Dean is real in a way that Sam never seems to be for Padalecki. Praising Sam isn't about discussing Sam; it's a statement on Jarpad. Discussing Dean is less about Jackles than it is about Dean. And that difference causes there to be a world separating the two. I won't say it's impossible to act without believing, at some level, in the reality of one's character, but Padalecki definitely can't.
"He's popular because he's Jared padalecki not because he's a good actor." I can't put this any better than you did, so I'm just gonna say: yes. A hundred times, yes.
And I also agree that there's not an issue with following actors to other shows. Frankly? I'm a touch obsessive. If I fixate on a character, I will follow that actor through their filmographies. I saw Jensen in Supernatural first, and have since watched --- solely due to his presence in the vehicle --- Dark Angel, some of Big Sky (though I haven't gotten to s3 yet, so idk if that counts), Ten Inch Hero, My Bloody Valentine, and Devour. The same is true with Misha, though I have access to less that he's been in: I basically could only watch 24 and the one episode of Monk he was in (and, even then, I'd seen the shows before because they've been family favorites for a while; I just hadn't known who Misha Collins was at the time). Both actors continued to be just as enjoyable --- just as skilled --- outside of their Supernatural roles.
However, I've watched the occasional Jarpad thing, too. I recently made some posts about one such film, which I hadn't realized he'd been in --- Cry_Wolf --- but I also intentionally watched Walker, House of Wax, and the Friday the 13th remake, just out of curiosity. Mainly, I was just curious whether my dislike for Sam was affecting my judgement, whether he'd gotten better outside of that environment. And he just hadn't. They were all utterly atrocious. To borrow my phrasing from an earlier post, his acting was forgettable at best and horrible at worst.
Long post already long: it's not a coincidence that Jackles has drawn massive interest from the general audience and not just the Supernatural fans. The Boys might have been the first example of this, but, as you point out, Big Sky has had a similar reaction. And, on the other hand, the only thing saving Padalecki from being a one-hit wonder (and I use the word "wonder" loosely) is that he's somehow managed to swing the loyalty of a very devout subset of the fanbase.
Anyway, I think it's my turn to apologize; this is, once again, a very long message... I hope it's not either oppressive or annoying; I'm just really enjoying the conversation. Thank you again, and all the best until next time!
#answered asks#scripted downfall asks answered#anti jared padalecki#so what can ya do#thank you again anon!!!#acting anon#(if you'd rather a different nickname lemme know)

something i love about cockles is that because there is so much of them at a young age that we can see in either filmography or photography, we really can picturehow the two looked for fics at certain times. like i always found it funny to read destiel fics years ago where dean was this bad boy and cas was the geeky shy boy or something and like i CANT PICTURE IT because misha was so weirdly good looking in a quirky way as a teen and then as a young adult i always picture him with the long hair and he is SO HOT and the Jensen is like this choir boy-boy scout as a teenager and then as a young adult was like a twink ken doll and also SUPER FUCKING PRETTY and im like my god if 21 year old jensen and 25 year old misha had ever been in the same frame, it would have been nuclear. i always wonder how they would react to each other at that age. like looks wise and personality wise. thoughts?
OMG, this is an ask that requires a person with very high analytical skills and while I don't think I am either qualified or well equipped to answer it perfectly, I have never been one to back away from a challenge so I will give it a try.
First, we have young Jensen who is so pretty it's unfathomable how he became this extremely handsome man. It's like he gets finer with age. His face is just perfect and I love that he’s more than his looks, he works really hard, gives his all and is super smart and thoughtful.
Have I mentioned I love him so much. I love Jensen. Even my bf keeps saying “Yes I know you love Dean. I get it.” I always have to remind him I love both Jensen and Dean because they are different. Anyway I’m sure he’s dreading watching s3 of The Boys with me because I will keep re-watching all the Soldier Boy scenes. He rolls his eyes every time I re-watch spn because he knows I will be talking about Dean for weeks thereafter.
Moving on from my unwarranted ramblings about Jensen.
As you said, when he was younger he looked like a Ken doll and gave off twink vibes. I mean...
Jensen is was the kind of pretty that was unreal and kind of unapproachable in the sense that you wouldn't feel worthy standing in front of such magnificence.
Jensen was on a whole other level. You know like those models, you see on magazines advertising clothes and you know or even if you bought those jeans or bought that dress you would never look as good as them because there's only one of them.
Then we have Misha. Misha has always been handsome. He has maintained his features. Even now that he's older, he still looks the same not much has changed.
Young Misha looks like he was one of those nerdy kids in HS who didn't know how good-looking they were and was often surprised when both boys and girls were drawn to him.
Misha is handsome and has all the features that every handsome man has, a sharp jawline, those cheekbones. Also, Misha's eyes are so big and so gentle. IDK what to say. His beauty is gentle in that he is approachable and he looks relatable.
God, I hope this makes sense because if it isn't, I have failed, but I keep trying until I answer your question.
Then we have them young long-haired.
Long-haired Misha is making my knees weak. He looks like he's so bad, he's the guy your mama warned you about. Long-haired Jensen looks like if you kissed him he'd ask you to pray with him because the good book says you have to wait until your wedding night or something akin to that.
This is getting long so more thoughts below:
Here is young cockles alongside each other.
Jensen here looks like the kind of guy who knows he's pretty and he owns it while Misha looks like that shy kid who is too sweet for his own good and Jensen takes him under his wing and shows him the ropes of how everything runs.
I actually think if these two had met when they were younger, it would've been total sexual annihilation. I mean the sexual chemistry between them is palpable. It hangs in the air every time they are close to each other. I mean they are middle-aged men, Misha is pushing 50 and somehow Jensen still can't get enough of him. H pops boners left and right. Well, mostly left because that's how he hangs but man, I honestly can't even imagine what our world would be today if these two met say 20 years ago instead of 13 years ago.
I 100% believe either of these things could've happened:
neither of them would have a career in Hollywood;
they would be the hottest gay couple in Hollywood with 3 kids;
one of them would have a successful career and the other one would've lost it all,
it would be much like it is today with them living in the shadows. Only now there would be way more rumours.
I also doubt if they had met 20 years prior that Misha would've been hired to join spn because every director/producer would know of their chemistry and we know cvv hates the gays so we wouldn't have destiel. I can't imagine a world without destiel in it. Can you?
Btw it is also imperative to note that back then Jensen was a staunch Christian. I'm not saying that he isn't now but he was the guy who used to thank Jesus Christ when he won an award.
Misha on the other hand was a rebel. He's the guy who ran naked in Chicago with a group of friends in a snowstorm. So they were two very different people back then and although they still are different, I think they met at the best time possible and that's why they have lasted this long.
As for Cas and Dean, I think they met when they were relatively young, Dean was 29 & Cas was only a few billion light-years old. But I think it wouldn't have mattered when they met, they would've still made the same choices they made and defied all odds and Chuck to save the world.
I honestly don't know what I'm on about anymore but that's my two cents. Hope it makes sense.

Me after sitting through yet another awful movie of a particular actor just for the 30 seconds that he got whumped in it: Can you please star in something good for once? 😭
Oh god that is a MOOD!!!! The amount of garbage films I've watched for my favorite actors. Honestly we deserve compensation for some of them lol. I hope that small whump was good at least!!
The worst thing I've watched was for Dirk Benedict (I love him as Face in the A-Team and was going through his entire filmography) and it was called, and I'm not kidding here, "Sssssss". That was the title! It's from 1973!
And the plot? Well let's wikipedia answer that: "Short on cash, undergrad David Blake (Dirk Benedict) takes a job working as a lab assistant for snake expert Dr. Carl Stoner (Strother Martin). When Stoner begins giving David a series of antibiotics as a safeguard against snakebites, he at first thinks nothing of it. But gradually David begins to notices curious changes in his body, and his new girlfriend, Dr. Stoner's daughter, Kristina (Heather Menzies), notices them too. Could Dr. Stoner really be trying to turn his assistant into a snake?"
That's right! I watched a movie about Dirk Benedict turning into a snake!!! And it was truly awful.
Coming in close is Stonehenge Apocalypse (for Misha Collins), Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon (for Michael Shanks), and Teeth (for Hale Appleman). God those were horrible movies.

I need you to understand, this is a world where walton goggins is misha collins. Ive seen that man interviewed, i know for a fact he would go full misha collins. Would we be prepared for that.
On the flip side, in this universe mr. Collins is a well-respected character actor with a diverse filmography, decent hollywood connections, and probably like an emmy nom
theres an alternate universe where raylan givens and boyd crowder from justified are one of the great slash couples of the tumblr canon. i dont want to live in that universe, because neither character can stand up to blorbo-fication and itd hurt to watch people try, but i can perceive this in my mind.
#timothy olyphant would be soooo much better at being jensen ackles than jensen ackles but walton goggins would be#worse at being misha collins than misha collins is#he would fully just be john de lancie

cannot imagine watching this show like a general audience member. just checking in once a week for 42 minutes and then dipping back out for a normal life.. imagine watching supernatural and not knowing the filmography of each writer and their fancams. not knowing how to delineate between different showrunner eras. not knowing the crimes committed by buckleming. not knowing that bobby singer is beloved but bob singer can get the fuck off my lawn. not knowing jibcon references that are years old but still trotted out regularly. not knowing about the warring factions of the fandom. not knowing far more details about the actors’ personal lives than you ever wanted to know but here we are. not knowing that misha has a poetry book and a podcast and a food show and Gish and a charity all going on. not knowing about kings of con. not knowing about chaos machines. not knowing about kripke’s obsession with naming people after his ex girlfriend and his obsession with casting jim beaver in multiple shows but giving him the same name each time. not knowing about walker and the not so conspiratorial conspiracy theories surrounding the finale. not knowing about meta or subtext or queercoding or queerbaiting or bury your gays discourse. not knowing about why lamp. not knowing about every cast member turning their back at comic con. not knowing about nominated and winning best chemistry. not knowing about a/b/o cursed legacy. not knowing about Valentine’s Day wedding. not knowing about 100,000 fics on ao3. not knowing about insane Jake Abel. not knowing about stands. not knowing about the White House intern. not knowing about the poor Twitter intern. not knowing about the cw sniper. not knowing about the sexy silence and jacting joices. not knowing about script drops. not knowing every episode off hand by name and number. not knowing about the goddamn market research.
#spn#supernatural#far too many details about spn live in my head rent free#I keep thinking of things to add

Misha Collins Appreciation post #1:
Misha is a talented and gifted actor. First thing i ever saw him in was CSI and that accent was amazing. When I began watching Supernatural, I didn't realize I had already seen him previously until I looked up his filmography and then I was like wtf! I need to watch him in more things, but I think his portrayal of the angel Castiel will always be my favorite.
Hes a Guinness world record holder for Random Acts and GISHWSHES.
He volunteers to help those in need when he has the time.
Misha is a man who has so much love to give and he doesn't hesitate to give all he can.

could we say Misha is a character actor? :)
hm i wouldn't go as far as saying he's a character actor, since he's played the lead in a couple projects (although it's true that's not often the case) and in his filmography there's no set trend for neither a determinate type of role nor a physical profile so to speak. could be that he's had better luck getting / is more comfortable playing smaller roles unlike actors who focus on bigger parts.
then again acting was not misha's first choice for a career, from what we know, and it certainly isn't his only professional interest. i feel he has the 'it's a job' approach, however much he may enjoy it and it doesn't seem like it's a priority, compared to say political activism, charities, writing, etc.
imo he's just an actor, or a man who acts for a living, sometimes. it's just... he does SO MUCH MORE besides acting, that calling him an actor feels.. unsuitable. maybe that's just me idk. but yes, an actor i guess.
however i'm not knowledgeable enough to say if he could be considered a character actor or not. im just some random heller🤷🏻♀️
