BREAKING MY SILENCE...

my partner and I have been watching different Ride The Cyclone productions. So far we've watched the off-broadway 2016 production (and just in case i'm mistaken, its the one played by Gus Halper, Alex Wyse, Tiffany Tatreau, etcetc. I will also be referring to this one as the OG even though is not cus im too lazy to type allat again), and some of t he more recent ones done in universities. I think it shocked us both to see the differences in the script. I mostly have qualms and complains around Mischa and Ocean's character. Mischa's has to do with how he's portrayed rather than the scripts, like Ocean's. In the newer ones, Ocean is portrayed as such a mean girl especially with the whole improvisation thing. They made her so superficial when in the original it really felt like she was trying her best to (as repetitive as it sounds) be her best and change the world positively even though it gave her a feeling of superiority for believing she is better than anyone else, that it came from HER being capable of changing the world. And by the end instead of reviving herself, she revives Jane and comes to terms that this is how she will affect the world, through giving someone else the chance to live again. That also means that Penny might not even remember her, and that's a whole lot development for Ocean cus she's not thinking about what her mark will be in the world and the changes SHE will make, but rather giving someone else the opportunity to live is purely selfless cus she gets absolutely NO reward, not even personal achivement or nourishment. It's just character development which kind of looses her effect when she's turned into a smart ass MEAN mean girl with airs of moral superiority that make no sense when she's bullying just because. Basically, yes she does think she can change the world but her superiority comes from moral and ethics, not just cus she's like 'im just better than anyone else cus im so slay yas girlypop'. They just pushed it too far with some of the stuff they changed/added (I will admit the improvisation bit was funny, if only it didnt ruin her character ((imo)) I feel like Mischa is being interpreted much more dumb than he actually is. They make him SUUUCH a himbo but almost fully negatively. It seems like they are putting characters in boxes. I enjoyed the OG because - much like he himself says - he gets hyped about things BUT in Halper's interpretation conserves that ''gangster'' more or less serious/chill persona and it's not just some loud ass class clown type of character. We didn't watch much of talia but even thinking of those interpretations singing Talia clashes so much because it feels so dumb'd down compared to the 'og' since he's kind of stupid and silly so it feels like Talia really is just a silly first love, he's being delusional and shit like that. Instead of the Mischa we first saw who already seemed far more realistic and less stereotypical, so it makes more believable for him to be so in love with Talia and that being the whole argument of his desire to live. GRANTED WHAT WE SAW ARE UNIVERSITY PRODUCTIONS so im not sure they were full on actors but still, it bothered me so much to see that twice, i had to get it out of my system bro. No hate to the actors tho these things happen, whateverrr anyway gus halper slayed that role, i have yet to see a Mischa that has so much ACTUAL passion and doesnt dumb down his rage thanks for listening im done yapping please dont yell at me thanks x2!!

penny lamb , the unluckiest girl in town (=> mischa) - she never got a break in st. cassians no words can describe the amount of bullying she faces . the only reason she wasn't left unidentified is because she has foster parents instead of being left by herself and ezra

ocean o'connell rosenberg , the fiercest girl in town (=> ricky) - got a pretty bad leg fracture that made her slow down on her game , which ruined her as she no longer lives up to her own high expectations . somehow more unbearable than before yet stopped insulting people ?

mischa blackwood bachinski , the gentlest boy in town (=> constance) - was put in a good loving environment so he isn't filled with rage . still , trying to cope with the death of his mother and feeling like he doesn't belong in uranium was tough

richard potts , the most artistic boy in town (=> noel) - has jumped to creating by doing art and writing to make the most of his short life . if he's going to go he'll at least release the stories in his head first

noel gruber , the most determined boy in town (=> ocean) - studies hard so he could leave uranium to move to france . partly because uranium sucks and partly because he'll go there to do drag , why would i Not include his historical oc monique gibeau

The choir in order of how angry they get

1: Mischa. Stereotyping? Maybe a tiny bit? But he only feels rage and passion and holy shit-

2: Constance. A constant sense of anger at herself, at Ocean, at everyone. She just bottles it up

3: Ocean. Right in the middle we have little ginger bitch, and she lets you KNOW when she’s angry (by talking very loudly. A lot.)

4: Penny. Not generally a super angry person but once she is it is VERY hard for her to calm down

5: Noel. He gets sad or frustrated a lot more then he gets genuinely angry, but when he is, he’s a force to be reckoned with

6: Ricky. He probably has one of the better REASONS to be angry at the world, but as proven in the show, he’s not. He’s indifferent.

YIPPEE I get to yap about this very tired angry depressed 17 year old /silly

- her sleep schedule is HORRENDOUS. Refuses to sleep until she ultimately collapses because she's too stubborn to give up her search for Ez. (even if she already knows the truth of what happened, being a literal WITNESS of the cyclone accident,, jst doesn't wanna accept it)

- also stays up because of frequent night terrors & nightmares in general. Has fallen asleep in multiple classes and has straight up collapsed when searching in the fall fair (as she skips classes a lOT)

- I feel like. She'd have some form of mild PTSD

- VERY uneasy around blood, understandably. Despite this she often gets into fights at school & it usually ends with her disassociated in the nurse's office. Somehow she hasn't gotten expelled (tbf it's Saint Cassian that school is hell™️)

- absolutely refused to let the foster home get rid of Ezra's stuff so she could share a room with someone else. she did not let them touch ANYTHING or let ANYONE share the room. They gave up after a while

- She still has the porcelain doll(mini jane ig/silly) she won at the fall fair,, even though she kinda. shoved it on a shelf because she didn't wanna think about it

- girlie does NOT take care of herself. Her hair is a mess but luckily it still looks. Decent enough! even if she hasn't let her hair down/out of the braids since the fall fair

- Doesn't really talk to the other choir members that much. However she's seemed to bond with Constance & Mischa a bit at the very least

- Ocean & Penny absolutely HATE eachother. Penny thinks she's too strict, uptight, and a general asshole while Ocean thinks she's too wreckless, rude, and probably insane

- tried to steal a car once to run the person who was running the Cyclone over. ended up accidentally driving into a mailbox so she just stole the mailbox and uses it as a weapon whenever she doesn't have a pocket knife on her

- refuses to go into therapy. She trusts NOBODY (other than a select few people) in Uranium.

- Her n' Tammy don't exactly. Get along anymore. They had a big argument about everything which ended with Penny storming off to blow off some steam (didn't want Tammy to be involved in her anger outbursts)

- When "John" popped outta nowhere she was probably too tired to process he had a doll head & little to no memory and was just kinda like. "wwhere have you beenjjdhd" and immediately conked tf out. Safe to say when she woke back up, much like the OG lamb siblings— ,, seeing your dead sibling with a doll head standing infront of you probably isn't the best thing to experience or wake up to (she probably had a panic attack & scrambled into a corner much to John's dismay)

- speaking of that, she did try to start taking care of herself again once John had popped up,, just. Instead of pushing him away, she refuses to leave him on his own for too long & gets vERY paranoid whenever she can't find him. Even if she knows he's not. really the same :(

This one is pretty self explanatory. It’s Ride the Cyclone but with MHTP characters. We have Betty as Karnak, Queen as Ocean, Rabbit as Constance, Hatter as Mischa, Hare as Noel, Ernest as Ricky, and Cheshire as Jane Doe

Fun extra one but Dormouse is Virgil

Reincarnation AU:

This one is an AU where Wonderland like in the book is real and that the MHTP characters are like the reincarnated versions of the book characters. Not just that but most people can kinda feel in their soul when they knew someone in another life even tho most aren’t aware that that’s what that feeling is. People also dream about their past life

This one is very Chandersson centric(but most of my AUs are). This one goes well with soulmate au too but yeah. Mouse and Cheshire both die horrifically but they get to be together as Ernest and Barkley

Another neat fact is that before Cheshire died, he gave the pig baby to Hatter for him to care for. Pig baby reincarnates as Barkley’s little brother, Francisco, and when he meets Harmony(Hatter) for the first time almost automatically thinks Dad? Tho he never voices that thought

Less than neat fact, You’re Just a Fool is now more terrifying for Ernest since Rosabella(Queen) is the one who killed him as Mouse

The adults grow up together AU:

This one is also kinda self explanatory. Basically all the main characters(except for the Tweedles and Alice) all are in the same town and grow up together as friends. This is the only AU that is in the MHTP universe that doesn’t have them end up in Ladrington Brooke at some point since they all had each other as support

It doesn’t mean that none of them developed their mental illnesses like Rosabella and Barkley were kinda unavoidable since they both grew up in abusive homes(Barkley is more hc than canon but shhhhh) but they are better off since they have friends to be there and places where they can run off to

Ernest’s depression isn’t as intense because he has friends(where in my hc, he had none) and Whitley(Rabbit) has people other than Rosabella to go to so his OCD is more manageable.

Chandersson will always be real so they got together in high school and stuck ever since

Reverse AU:

This one isn’t complicated but it’s hard for me to explain

It’s not a reverse AU where personalities switch and they also don’t switch mental illnesses. Everyone keeps their disorders it’s more role that reverses and also order in which they present their stuff

So Alice and the Tweedles switch where Alice is first and has a more fun song in which they play pretend while Tweedles go after Hare and actually talk about the PTSD

Hare and Rabbit switch and I honestly don’t know how their songs would change. Rabbit’s would go before Hatter’s song

The second most interesting change is Hatter and Queen so now Queen is the leader of the group instead of Hatter and she goes last. Hatter’s song is now more going You need to understand, I’m not like what you think but it actually works because he isn’t using his illness to excuse being an abusive asshole to his friends while Queen is now more like a Let me tell you a tale like how Dapper Hatter is. Queen is much nicer and not abusive and enjoying it like in the show. She is much more stern unlike Hatter but ultimately is trying her best to put the others first even if sometimes she has a hard time controlling her temper

And the most interesting change which is Cheshire and Ernest switching roles so now Cheshire is the doctor and Ernest is the patient. Idk how their songs would work but I do know that Cheshire’s own Ernest in Ernest type moment would be triggered by Queen doing her banshee screech of rage. Ernest is less in the There’s nothing wrong with me even tho that would fit and more like I know there’s smth wrong but I don’t want to talk about it while Cheshire genuinely doesn’t know and gets the realization that he isn’t actually as normal as he thought he was in the harshest way possible(the most intense CPTSD flashback you’ve ever seen). Since Ernest never became a psychotherapist, he is a science teacher.

The nightmares started after that fateful Monday. Waking up in a cold sweat wasn't the worst of it. However, it was the restless nights I spent alone in the cold dingy basement.

There used to be two people down here. Making the best out of a terrible situation. My adopted "parents" hated my brother and I. Despised us even. All because of our mom faking our ages. They didn't get the young children they wanted, but two rage and passion-filled Ukrainian twins.

The screeching of the rollercoaster was still in my ear. Watching the choir members fly off of the rollercoaster and falling to their impending dooms. A part of me feels glad I refused to get on the rollercoaster. But guilty my brother did.

I remember watching his body fly out of the rollercoaster and hit the concrete below. The screams of fair goers. The sickening crack each kid made after falling. It makes me want to-

I shot up from my sleep and ran to the tiny bathroom, vomiting my guts out in the toilet. Coughing a bit, I sat next to the it, sobbing my eyes out quietly. It wasn't fair. Why did he have to die? It should've been me. I should've went on the rollercoaster. I should've...

"Cестра (sister)?" A voice moved past my ears. "The hell..." I mutter, weakly standing on my feet.

"Do not freak out. It's me!" 'Is that...it can't be. Mischa's dead. Get it together, Y/n. You're being paranoid again.'

"Cестра?" The voice called out again, this time taking the shape of a boy. But sort of like a ghost. He was wearing a white button up with a sweater vest. I looked closely and noticed the St. Cassian's Chamber school logo.

"M-Mischa?" I asked, sniffling. "Who else would it be?" He asked, looking at me like I was dumb.

"W-wait...how is this...how is this happening?!" I almost yell, picking up the plunger near me as a weapon, my accent thickening."Really? You are going to fight me with a...." "Plunger!" I whisper-yell. "Right...a plunger? It wouldn't work. I'm a...ghost?"

Yep. That was Mischa alright. "Wait how are you even here right now? Talking to me? In our..."room"? Aren't you dead?" I asked him. "Yes! I am still dead. But a lot has happened. We met some fortune teller. And he knew you were my sister! I do not know how, but he did." I slowly nodded, hoping he would continue telling me this weird story.

"But now I guess...we're choosing someone to come back to life." He got quieter by the last part, but I heard him loud and clear. "Come back to life?! Mischa, that's so cool! Not to be biased or anything, but I think you should. You deserve it the most."

"And go back to that hellhole with our so-called "parents"? No thanks. I'd rather stay dead." My heart dropped at his sudden cold rage. "Mischa- what about Talia?" He stared at me and his face softened. "Talia...my divine Talia...I do not want to leave her, but I don't want the life I've had before."

"Mischa please! I can't keep doing this by myself! They hate me even more since the accident. Please..." I got choked up and was hiccuping over every little word at this point. "Y/n..." "I don't want to live anymore. Not if you aren't there! So PLEASE!" My voice broke and I began to sob quietly.

"соняшник (sunflower), listen to me. I need to do what's best for me. I'm fine with the 18 years I've spent with you. You need to find somewhere else to go. You need to find people that make you happy and find someone you love. Like how my shawty, Talia, and I do." I laughed a little at this comment.

"I truly love you. You were my best friend. My partner in crime. The only other person to leave me mostly positive reviews on my YouTube comment wall. I love you." Tears flowed from my eyes and fell onto my cheeks.

Little sparkles began to form it's way around my twin. "Mischa, what's happening?" I asked, concerned. "Ocean chose someone to live..." I almost jumped up, but contained myself. "And we're all passing onto the afterlife. Except for...I hear her name is Penny." He says. "Penny Lamb? Isn't that the one girl with the brother named Ezra?" I asked confused. "If that is who she is, then yes."

He sniffled a little. "Well this is the last time I think I will see you." A bittersweet smile came onto both of our faces. "I'll miss you, Mi." I said, my vision getting blurred from the tears. "You too, Y/n/n."

"Wait! Mischa, before you go...can you sing me that nursery rhyme that you sang to me all the time when we were younger? The one mom sang before she...died?" He looked down on me and nodded slightly, leaning towards me, giving some ghostly hug and he began to sing.

He began to sing again, but it sounded more faded, before no sound came at all. I began to doze off and eventually fell asleep under my dingy, thin sheet.

The next time I opened my eyes, it was time for me to go to school. I put on my uniform and did my hair in a decent way, to not make it look like I was just visited by my ghost brother. Before I walk up the basement stairs, something glimmers out of the corner of my eye.

Mischa's fake gold chain he won from some arcade. I take it quickly and put it on, fixing it up a little bit. Using my phone, I pull up my camera and check myself in the reflection.

"Perfect." I breathe out, running up the stairs and gently opening the door, my "father" unlocking it a few minutes ago.

I make my way out the front door and get to school, a memorial standing in the front. Seeing the choir's faces fill my heart with a pang of guilt.

"Um, excuse me?" A girl's voice spoke up. I turn and see a girl around my height with short black hair, freckles, and the brightest green eyes. "Yes?" "I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I'm Penny. Penny Lamb." She holds her hand out for me to shake.

"I'll see you there." I smile, watching her smile back and run into school. And Mischa's words came into mind:

Maybe that just might be Penny.

DRDT crossed over with my two personal favorite musicals.

Explanations for the latter roles:

Who else would deliver Ocean-style speeches but David? Was going to put Arei or Charles, but neither of them would bother with the facade of niceness and perfection that Ocean carried with her, during the first half of the musical.

Veronika, with her desire to "feel" and love for all things macabre (in addition to being canonically LGBT), would be the perfect Noel.

With her rough past and rage against the world, Teruko was easily assigned Mischa's role. Either Xander or Min (possibly both) could work for Talia. Also, imagine Teruko rapping.

In many of the DRDT/RTC AUs I've seen, either Nico or Rose get Ricky's role, but allow me to raise you Whit as Ricky. One of Ricky's defining traits (that is often forgotten, with newer editions of the script) is his whole emphasis on love, to the point of endorsing this behavior in his "Bachelor Man Bible" and his song. And what better choice for the love-filled Ricky than the Ultimate Matchmaker himself? Also, tell me that Whit wouldn't slay "Space Age Bachelor Man". They also had lonely neglect-filled pasts.

Who would be better for the amnesiac character than the person whose arc revolves around coming to terms with blocked-out memories. Also, CharWhit as SpaceDolls is hella real! Just imagine Charles and Elliot as Penny and Ezra in a Legoland AU.

It is a constant in pretty much all the DRDT/RTC AU that Eden has to be Constance.
