Is there a popular opinion about Misa/Matt....?

My general opinion is that I don’t feel they have compatible in lifestyles. It’s hard to picture Misa living with an untidy semi-shut-in, to be honest. Misa’s all about appearances and aesthetics and pretty things. There’s no way she’d appreciate a more slob-ish lifestyle, haha.

I like how bratty they are together in canon, it’s really funny to see them bickering like a couple of children

He creepily gathers all this personal info about her and then pretends to spontaneously run into her and be a dream come true match for her, but she just finds it spooky.

High School AU where Misa is a high school senior and Near is in junior high (we’ll fudge the age gap a little). Near tutors Misa because she’s struggling academically and he’s a little math whiz, and Misa helps Near come out of his shell a bit socially and invites him to a big wild weekend party at her house. No hooking up or anything, just a cute little gen fluff fic. Maybe Near has a little bit of a crush on Misa, tho

Headcanons, as I cannot see this pair happening in canon at all

Near making weird little finger puppets for Misa that she treasures forever, they fit in well with her collection of cute and spooky things

Misa taking advantage of Near’s inexperience would be pretty shitty and not that fun to read

Hmm I think I would enjoy how little Near would put up with Misa’s drama; he’d really tell it like it is and keep it real with her, and actually probably be easy to talk to about most things. She wouldn’t have to guess about the sincerity of his thoughts and feelings like she would with Light.

I think Near would probably be pretty scornful of Misa most of the time actually, so it’s a bit hard to realistically imagine them clicking romantically

I can really only imagine them together in completely AU scenarios, when they’re both adults. I think they might actually have a cute personality contrast, but their tastes and values and interests wouldn’t really line up that well. I’d put them together as like coworkers or classmates who end up interacting because they have to and then getting along surprisingly well or something

I think Near would more readily break up with someone than Misa would. She’s very clingy about romance, and he seems pretty ambivalent and independent

MELLOxMATT:

I think it's cute. Not really my thing, but I remember liking it and finding it easier to write myself than something like Lawlight when I was a teen, because it's fairly uncomplicated and nice when the characters actually seem to be friends and get along 😅 I don't find it too fascinating because I don't find Matt that intriguing nor do I have a huge interest in Mello, but I understand why the people who do enjoy it a lot

Very cute! I think it has a lot of potential actually, and there was a canon spark between them from Matt's creeper end of things as well... would almost be more interested in seeing this than seeing MattxMello, tbh
