literally have not been able to get mithrun and milsiril's missed connections middle-aged ex-coworkers heterosexual yuri bullshit out of my head. ryoko kui rlly said "what if there was a really hot popular fake ass girl and a really gloomy wallflower girl who wrote the first girl off completely based off first impressions only to realize later that they were the same envious and resentful girl deep down inside and could have been kindred spirits, but now the person she could have resonated with no longer exists. also the first girl is a boy" and then expected me to be okay

The appeal of Mithrun/Milsiril for me is 50% the idea of this extremely slow burn of two people that at first glance seemed completely opposites, with she seeing him as being so beautiful and perfect and everything she wasn’t that ended up with her hating him and avoiding his attempts of getting close to her, and Milsiril only realizing that inside they were actually so similar when he seemed completely unreachable and incapable of making human connections anymore. And for Mithrun there is this woman he used to sort of looked down before but that was so pivotal in all these huge moments of his life, being the one who rescued him and the one that made him realize that he did still want to live after all. It’s about the missed opportunities and unexpected help. It’s about healing, growing and the potential of human connection after thinking there was no more hope for anything of that kind. 

and the other 50% is the hilarity of Kabru’s absolute horror at the idea of Mithrun fucking his mom.

Sorry not a big shipper in the dungeon meshi fandom other than farcille and chilshi but I specifically don’t, personally, at all like mithrun and kabru for the reason I see mithrun as some like 48 year old man that has a “i cradled you in my arms” “I don’t remember that” platonic- older work friend relationship with Kabru until they meet up a couple years post everything and he’s mentioning some of the desires he’s tried out and is just like “yeah tried sex, it was okay. Not great compared to my ex lover.” “Oh who was that?” (Because he’s nosy) “her name was Milsiril.” And then it cuts to Kabru’s glass cracked all over the floor

ok my favorite thing about them is sHE FUCKING HATED HIM HDHSHDH he was some charming fuckboy. And she was not having any of it.

And then she saw how much more was going on with him than she’d realized when they found him in the dungeon. She came to pity him… but also clearly developed a sort of fondness for him when she helped rehabilitate him for like, a decade or something.

I find it really interesting!! They start off so messy and toxic with a lot of unspoken tension, and somehow end up amicable and grateful for each other. It’s like that kid that pissed you off in middle school and meeting them again in high school, and realizing they’re pretty chill actually and you surprisingly get along well.

Also I think it’s reallyyyyyy funny for kabru to have to grapple with mithrun banging his mom.

While I do think eventually Kabru would be okay with Mithrun and Milsiril dating, I think that at first he would have some regrets over encouraging Mithrun to discover new desires if one of these desires turns out to be a desire to fuck his mom (understandable)
