SOULSTOBER DAY 1 - 10
I've been doing these daily sketches of fromsoft characters and bosses and it's been really fun so I thought I would share them here too since I stopped doing inktober.
Most of these are loose sketches done straight with ink with no pencil sketch first which is new for me and I really like the freedom of not worrying about the mistakes and just focusing on finishing the sketch.
Day 1 - Solaire Of Astora
Day 2 - Siegmeyer Of Catarina
Day 3 - Great Wolf Sif
Day 4 - Knight Artorias
Day 5 - Crossbreed Priscilla
Day 6 - Seath The Scaleless
Day 7 - Lucatiel Of Mirrah
Day 8 - Nashandra
Day 9 - Old Iron King
Day 10 - Royal Rat Authority

Felicia and Bellclaire knew each other?
WAKE UP GIRL NEW DARK SOULS YURI DROPPED ok ok ok one second let me elaborate hfhhvbhnf
So, basically, their summon locations are connected; one of them they are sharing (Lost Bastille), and their other ones (Amana for Felicia and Drangleic Castle for Bellclaire) are connected throgh their items lore!
Bellclaire is one of the Hollowed Mages from Tseldora, this robe is otherwise exclusively worn by the dudes who kept shooting you near the sand pit lmao. And it is further confirmed by the fact one of her spells is Crystal Soul Spear, a spell that can be created in NG+ from the Soul of Paledrake (Seath) and lorewise originating from Seath.. who kinda possessed the Duke of Tseldora to become cringe so it only makes more sense!
Her other set pieces are Rogue Leggins (clothes of Hollowed thiefs), Lion Warrior Helm (makes sense she put it on, Lion Warriors would be on her way upon leaving Tseldora) and Creighton's Chain Glowes (assume just Mirrah stuff, but this particular one should be ignored I think, feels same as Sceptical Old Man wearing Gehrman's pants aka just aesthetic item)! I think the robe should be THE focus here, all things considered
^^^ Another thing about her is that she has this Chime, but doesn't use a single Miracle, nor even has it just unused in her data! This coincides with how Vendrick kept clerics just for ceremonial purposes and not for actually doing the cleric stuff, and Tseldora was in service of Vendrick as part of Drangleic, so that further points Bellclaire towards just being in his service 🤔
Possibly, she went on her pilgrimage after becoming cursed, rather than staying back and waiting for the curse to take its toll like fellow mages, but wasn't able to run far enough; her summon sign in Lost Bastille is in the cell (with broken bars), seems like she was captured and imprisoned.
Another thing is.. she is not a Hollow! I know the invaders and summons in Dark Souls 2 use like the same 7 preset faces, but there IS a data for Hollow character (annoying three characters fought in Shulva as bosses use it for example)! The thing is, her weapon is Staff of Amana, a weapon that has nothing to do with Drangleic/Vendrick/Tseldora/etc!
But you know what IS interesting about Amana? Right, it has an Altar with a Milfanito at it that allows to restore humanity even without a Human Effigy! It exists for this purpose, and it is possible that THIS is how Bellclaire healed from Hollowing! This staff might have been something she picked on her way! Though this particular staff also scales when you are a human and gives penalty when you are Hollow, so maybe it gives her additional motivation to hold onto her humanity!
At the same time, Felicia's summon signs are in Amana and in Lost Bastille, not far away from Bellclaire but outside of jail cells! Okay, so about her now:
She is wearing a Knight Set (all pieces have the same description), and appears that she is not an Undead since she seeks "official" Knightship in Drangleic!
I need to also clarify about her shield, because it is actually a mistake; the descriptions of Greatshield of Glory and Tower Shield are clearly mixed upon development and it was never corrected:
You can clearly see it is a mistake as the Knights serving Vendrick, who are modeled after his knight Syan, use this shield too:
Her weapon is also Heide Greatlance! (Sorry I don't have a screenshot copied) So, she has a Heide Greatlance, but also a shield she uses is found IN Heide after Old Dragonslayer battle near Targray (the Blue Sentinels guy), and the set she uses is found in the path that connects Heide and No-Man's Wharf!
Note I don't necessarily take it as her dying around, especially with how in Dark Souls 2 every other NPC just conveniently has exact replica of their set and weapon to reward the player with XD (looking at YOU, Elden CRING killing Ansbach and Thiollier to give us their sets!!!). Just more like telling the story through items locations and environment. So, perhaps she tried to become a Blue Sentinel in her pursuit for knightship, but failed.... or maybe, rather, got sidetracked!
No-Man's Wharf got under control of Vendrick, and now they are the ones responsible for capturing Undead and sending them into Lost Bastille! So how about this idea: Felicia found, maybe by accident, path to No-Man's Wharf and by effect the Lost Bastille, and was NOT having what she found out there! If we assume she wanted to join Blue Sentinels, she must have had strong sense of justice or wish to help people.. and, well, Undeads captured and locked away is not nice. Her title is also literally Felicia the Brave, she would not sympathize with peoples fear of the Undead much if at all! Especially since even becoming Hollow doesn't automatically mean being a danger to society, across the trilogy we meet some characters who are Hollow but harmless and even still having their wits and memories, just weird at worst!
So, Felicia was the one to crash Bellclaire's cell open to free her, and accompanied her into Amana to seek restoration of her humanity since Felicia has a summon sign in Amana and Bellclaire has the Staff of Amana and isn't Hollow despite she should be!!! She was not giving up the hope for Undeads and encouraged her to seek help, seeing she yet had wits and deserved a chance instead of rotting in the jailcell! Maybe not even just Bellclaire? Maybe Felicia released every imprisoned Undead that was not yet completely beyond help and put them in the boat away from here, believing they could be helped. There is hope for the Undead (The Pursuer disapproves of THE naivety and optimism sooooOOOO hard lol).
I just think this is so nice tbh hfhruybf. Though Bellclaire is a summon in Drangleic Castle too. I wonder if Hollowing did erode some of her memories still, and she was looking for familiarity like Lucatiel ;-; Or Millicent in ER, actually. Though Felicia might have been looking for Drangleic Castle too because of the Greatshield of Glory, as true knight calling.... until she didn't. Or could have picked a fight with people there? In either case, hers and Bellclaire's paths might cross even beyond their shared adventure (that has no business being as cute as it is)
I also wonder if Targray still wonders where did she go. Maybe worries about her since she isn't an Undead; if she dies then she DIES. He doesn't know she simply has 5 seconds timespan gdhtjhgjh XD

P.S.: AKTYALY Bellclaire is one of those Fromsoft's trademark GNC characters! The thing is, she is wearing a MALE robe; female variant of this clothing is black!
^^^ White (male)
^^^ Black (female). @val-of-the-north Iirc Dark Souls 2 also has a male character wearing the black variant, right? Based and valid tbh. Common Dark Souls 2 W

Dark Souls lore is like being given 100 pieces to complete a 500-piece puzzle with no guarantee that they even belong to the same puzzle in the first place. I say this lovingly – it's an essential part of what makes this series so compelling to me.
On a loosely related note, Creighton the Wanderer being Schrödinger's Serial Killer is so fucking funny to me and I need to share my thoughts.
For those who don't know who I'm talking about, Creighton is an NPC you first meet in a location named Huntsman's Copse, in DS2. He's locked up in a cell and somewhat pissed off about it. When you free him to initiate his questline, he says:
"[...] I am Creighton, of Mirrah. I travel from land to land to hone my blade. [...] I joined forces with a man on the way, but he was no more than a back-stabbing knave. He took the first chance he had to try and off me. I decided to set a trap for him here, but then I got trapped myself. I can't believe that I was so dense. Thank the stars that you came along. You be careful of him. Pate, I think he said. [...] I've seen his type before. He kills entirely for the pleasure of it. I'm sure I won't be his last victim. The man's better off dead, I tell you. He's a slick talker, so don't let him fool you. [...] Watch out for the slimy rat. And don't you believe a word he says. I'll find the common footpad, and put an end to his roguery. Heh heh."
If you've played DS1 before, this might sound familiar to you. Indeed, you may think of Pate as DS2's stand-in for Patches. By this point in the game, there's a good chance you've encountered him already, and while you haven't been pushed down any cliff this time, you did end up locked up and surrounded by hostile hollows. I'd argue that this being the likeliest order of events is the game priming you to feel sympathetic towards Creighton once you reach him, as by then, the both of you would have been tricked by the same man. You might even feel so sympathetic as to overlook how immediately eager to kill Pate he is. And, if we're going down that route, metacontextually, you might have thrown Patches off that cliff as retribution yourself back in DS1.
You then find yourself speaking with Pate and Creighton back-and-forth at different locations, with Pate indirectly putting you in additional danger, and Creighton sounding more and more eager to kill the guy. The questline ends when you reach the Brightstone Cove of Tseldora, where you find them both fighting, and are given the opportunity to intervene to save either one by killing the other.
Now if this was all the questline was, there wouldn't be much to it, would there? Creighton is a bit bloodthirsty but, you could reasonably argue that his motivations are understandable. Why ever side with Pate in this? He almost got you killed twice! The man's clearly dangerous! Well, you see – after you're done helping either one, they both gift you a key leading to a trapped chest which explodes when you open it! That's right, even Creighton. "Ooh, that'll leave a nasty scar!" he says, if you survive the explosion. Now why would Creighton who remained friendly throughout end up doing this to us? Another DS2 character, Cale the Cartographer may be the key to understanding his motivations. Here's what he says.
"Ah yes, there is something I wanted to tell you. I was born in the land of Mirrah. Mirrah is also the home of an infamous killer, a 'knight' in name alone. He was locked in the dungeon for multiple murders. But shortly before his execution, he managed to escape. And the other day… I saw a fellow with a striking likeness! And then! And then… Wait… Well… I think he looked rather similar… N-no, it's true! I saw just such a man, I swear! I believe his name was…Cr…Cr…err Cray-something… I believe… They shared…some resemblance, I… I think…"
Cale tells you this back in Majula – the Firelink Shrine of DS2 – after you meet Creighton at least once. Our wandering friend has been a serial killer this entire time it would seem. DS3 would also agree with this statement. He is featured there as an NPC invader who attacks both the Ashen one and Sirris of the Sunless Realms. Here is what his armor set and weapon descriptions from DS3 tell us.
Creighton's Steel Mask: Attire of Creighton the Wanderer, a notorious deserter who fled an order of Mirrah Knights. Despite the mask's being a symbol of a criminal sentenced to death, Creighton never removed it.
Mirrah Chain Mail: Formal attire of the honorable knights of Mirrah, featuring their heraldry, a stag set against a blue field. Oddly, it was a dishonorable deserter who wore this attire most religiously.
Dragonslayer Axe: Axe favored by Creighton the Wanderer, infamous deserter of the Knights of Mirrah. Called Dragonslayer's Axe for the lightning that pulsates within its blade, but Creighton used it to slay men.
This all seems pretty damning. Helping Creighton in Tseldora means helping a serial killer. Pate may have tried to kill us before but, it's not like we were ever actually in any danger. What's a couple of hollows to a big strong undead like us, right? Helping Pate it is then? Killing them both? Walking past them and leaving them to it? At any rate, not helping Creighton! There. Problem solved.
You fool. You think we’re done? We haven't even started. I present to you his DS2 armor set descriptions.
Creighton’s Steel Mask: Atypical steel mask. Belonged to Creighton the Wanderer. Its design resembles that of the knight order of the eastern land of Mirrah, but with some odd differences that catch the eye. Perhaps it is a finely-crafted imitation.
Mirrah Chain Mail: Belonged to Creighton the Wanderer. Its design resembles that of the knight order of the eastern land of Mirrah, but with some odd differences that catch the eye. Perhaps it is a finely-crafted imitation.
Now, reading this, you might point out that this seemingly contradicts part of Cale’s statement as well as the DS3 item descriptions. I wouldn’t say so out of hand. One could reasonably argue that Creighton could very well have infiltrated the Knights of Mirrah by wearing a replica, thus in a manner of speaking, indeed belonging to that Order, or at the very least, being perceived as such by the wider public. Though I will admit that wearing a replica of a mask marking oneself for the death penalty, even in a different land, is rather shortsighted. Anyways, what of his axe, which I have conveniently omitted here? Well, I did so for a reason. We stumble across DS2’s Dragonslayer Axe nowhere near Creighton unlike in DS3 where we would obtain it after defeating him. In fact, until DS3, the Dragonslayer Axe being Creighton’s was unconfirmed. Besides… Have a look at the item description for yourself.
Dragonslayer’s Crescent Axe: The beloved black axe of the gallant Shieldless Lothian, formerly of Forossa. No warrior matched the ferocity of unbeatable Lothian, but he abruptly retired from the battlefield and was never heard from again. Some say that he grew tired of the frailty of human foes, and set off to slay the legendary dragon.
“Who in Gwyn’s name is Shieldless Lothian?” I hear you ask. No worries, I got you covered.
Ring of Giants: [...] Lothian was born a peasant, and died a general. His determination and diligence were unmatched, especially on the battlefield, where he earned his name by choosing to fight without a shield.
Annnnd, that’s it. That’s pretty much all we know. Let’s unpack all of this, shall we?
The Dragonslayer’s Crescent Axe belonged to a certain Shieldless Lothian of Forossa, a man who abandoned the battlefield to go chase after dragons, but also somehow still died a general. And this axe is seemingly now in the hands of Creighton of Mirrah, serial killer. Are we to understand that Creighton is actually a man named Lothian? That he faked his death? Or that he killed Lothian and took his weapon for himself? Or that he merely wields a replica of Lothian’s axe? Yea. Remember what I said about the puzzle pieces and all that?
I’d like to briefly move the focus back around to our cartographer friend. I may have omitted to tell you earlier that, prior to speaking to you in Majula, Cale was actually located in a location called the Forest of Fallen Giants, which Creighton never sets foot in during the events of DS2. However, it does happen to be the location you first meet Pate in. Speaking of Pate, here is what his spear description has to say.
Pate’s Spear: A long spear wielded by Pate. This appears to be a very ordinary spear, but seems to have accumulated power over the course of countless battles. It is not always advisable to stand out. Especially if you have something to hide.
Now, this is so vague it could mean anything. But if one were to decide for whatever reason to have the most charitable read on Creighton’s character, they could conceivably argue that Creighton is an – albeit strangely revengeful – innocent man who was framed by Pate, who is the true serial killer of Mirrah. We know that Pate and Creighton have traveled together a while. We know that Pate is a dangerous manipulator who seemingly has a pattern of purposefully leading people to their death. Creighton meanwhile only shows resentment towards Pate, who supposedly almost killed him. He is also consistently friendly to us, up until the last moment, with the chest, though who knows if that was intentional? Maybe Pate is the one who boobytrapped it! Speaking of Pate, he’s the one to be present in the Forest of Fallen Giants, while Creighton isn’t. Pate might well have met Cale there who’d have recognized him, and in turn, he’d have introduced himself as Creighton to protect his own identity, with the lie still not cleared out by the time of DS3. One might also point out that Creighton has a distinctly Cockney accent which isn’t shared by other Mirrah characters like Lucatiel or Cale, which could hypothetically make sense should one accept the idea that Lothian and Creighton are the same person. Whilst speaking to us about Pate, Creighton says “[...] For the good of the world, and for my own honour. I won't let that bastard live another day.” One may wonder what good a serial killer would have to present himself as honorable and selfless, all the while not bothering to tone down his bloodlust at all when speaking to us. It’s stupid, in a weird authentic sort of way.
Do I believe this theory? Not really, no. I don’t think Dark Souls has the kind of character-driven narrative that thinks so deeply about its characters beyond how they best serve the overarching themes of the story, how they best contribute to building that specific “Dark Souls” atmosphere that makes those games so special. Ultimately, we have no evidence of Cale and Pate actually interacting with one another. Cale calls Creighton a killer, and it’s later on confirmed by his DS3’s weapon description. I can’t think of any reason why the game would lie to us over what is ultimately a very minor character, even within DS2. The slight discrepancies between DS2 and 3 can be explained away by time, or just, different people having worked on the games. I’m just a bit too pragmatic to believe that there would have been such a convoluted process involved for building up this non-character into a complex double fake-out innocent man. I think both Creighton and Pate were intended to be awful in DS2, probably as a way to hammer home that the world is broken, and good people, like your friends in Majula, are a rarity to be cherished. Still, I appreciate that the series allows for the above kind of badshit thinking to emerge to be honest. It’s fun! Trying to rebuild the puzzle with much of it missing is fun! People coming to different conclusions is fun!
Anyways, we all know Creighton was hired by Licia to kill Pate as part of an intense multidimensional war between the Covenant of Clerics and Patches.

"Suthuun..." Under familiar circumstances do they find one another again, though in those times before he's had eyes aimed at the stone wall for the sake of supposed propriety and the warmth of a joke. Now his attention is reserved solely for Heysel, his approach at a slow and considerate pace as though to further take in the sight of her so adorned in steel finery and cloth of golden hue. There is a certain awe that lightens the lines of his face, a wonder that has only ever been reserved for her urging him into tracing the embroidering laden upon her maille with a steel-clad hand. An approving sound follows his brief inspection, one reaffirmed with the gentle squeeze of his hand upon finding one of her own. "This is finely made. Armaments fit for a champion, and especially radiant for the one I find myself graced to be in the company of." His brown eyes are warm, amused and impressed and entirely smitten all at once as he presses a kiss to her knuckles. "I fear if Mirrah still endured they'd have bedeviled you, wrought with envy at the sight of such a fine knight as they would have been."
Had they not joked about this very thing, before? Far before: she recalls a great long time ago in which the man named Brom had not yet quite grown into the uninterrupted light lining tender red the exact shape of her- but had started that process, slowly, growing quiet roots here and there in the sweetest parts of herself, frail candleflames of affection- and she’d told him: oh, you see, magic is contagious, soon you’ll shed the armor and you’ll start developing an odd fascination for robes, yes, I have touched you and for I am a mage you are one of the infected now, the metamorphosis comes for you! (He’d wiped himself with a rag. Smart for recognizing nonsense, smarter yet for making sure it could only remain such.)
Yet here she is. A split cocoon of cloth, revealing a carapace of steel, revealing her. Someone underwent metamorphosis, and it is not the man named Brom. (Her fault, certainly. She should have known that infection can go both ways. And she’d never tried to clean any touch of his away, especially that great long time ago, oh gods, the opposite. Had it been possible she would have done all to make herself amber-limbed, sap-muscled, so that every memory of contact would have sunk and trapped itself within her like insects archived flawless and forever under her skin. A collection, a constellation. But that was not possible and so she instead hoped and looked and looked. And once home she’d trace the edges of the sight of him like shed dragonfly wings- cautiously, carefully, lest they turned to beautiful dust under the force of how much she wanted.)
(So here she is. She thinks of those mushrooms that addle the little minds of ants, make them do the strangest things. Perhaps it is such an infection. Perhaps she wants no cure. Perhaps that's just what being in love is.)
“Why, thank you! Your approval means much. I’ll confess I lack the eye for such things!” Tall, tall Brom. The proximity of him casts such long shadow over her, past her, and she gladly swims in it. Twice as gladly soaks herself in his words. Thrice she drinks the way he looks at her. “Your own armor- I always considered the wholeness of it magnificent. Not just the fleece! Well. That part did get special attention, yes. And lacking technical knowledge it was all so magnificent because it was yours. And if it's yours, I'd think, it must be finely made. A Lion Knight wouldn't wear anything that wasn't worthy of himself.” A moment’s pause. She cannot help but smile, as she watches him bring her armored knuckles to his lips. “You know. You could teach me a couple of things. How to recognize the signs of well crafted armor, to start with! How to maintain it. Perhaps more. You know how to smith. I’d like to learn that, too.”
She tells the truth. She does. But he sees it, certainly. That a small change has happened across the planes of her expression as well.
“I’ll also confess: I do not know how you do it. And with it I mean wear steel across your body as you do and not feel that- you could almost endure anything. If I hadn’t seen my very own crossbow bolts punch through plates I’d think myself capable of withstanding all that Mirrah had to throw at me, or the world, truly. Was this something you felt in the beginning too, when you received yours? Like something atheist to destruction.”
Something flutters behind her eye.
“I do feel bolder.”
Gently, she lifts a gauntlet-sheathed palm, and presses it against his breastplate, and presses, just as gently, a motion inviting motion, one step forward for her and one backwards for him, grass around their boots, metal about their bodies. Presses further, and further, and further, until his back meets the moss-bruised trunk of a tree.
The hand doesn't leave.
And the scent of milkweed. And the sound of breeze-tousled leaves, dripping shade over them. Somewhere, a cicada sings. And just him. And just her. Looking at him, looking at him.
The touch descends, just enough to rest at his side, then hooks in the taut space between belt and metal. Sunlight snaps around the hard edges of her fingers.
She's been bolder than this. Perhaps there was neither infection or metamorphosis. Perhaps she only molted into the same soft animal in love, eager to curl into the warmth of his palm. But it feels different, still, in some way. Just a little.
Heysel lifts herself up on her tiptoes, and kisses his mouth.
