Current Sri Lankan social media meltdown: a bunch of white Russian immigrants had decided to have a "white only party" in Unawatuna, in the year of the colonizer lord 2024. Mfers are consequently "in a state of shock" from the "aggressive attacks" by furious locals. In hindsight, the shitheads have realized that having an apartheid party in a sovereign Asian country would bring a "negative vibe". Apparently "none of them came up with the idea of possible discrimination much less racism!!!" and they just (I shit you not) missed other white people. Like, this was prompted by the fact that they couldn't find any other white people...at raves...in Unawatuna. I'd ask whether they were looking under rocks, but there would be unwashed racist Europeans under those at fucking Una even in the off-season.
It's all very entertaining. Even some other Russians are mad at them because some have married Lankans and have half-brown kids. Along with their second or third butthurt non-apology, they just posted saying their entire team packed up and left the country because they got slammed with so many "malicious and insulting messages" and calls and "everything from accusations to direct threats".
This result has united Lankan bros everywhere, from 4chan to twitter to Reddit, like they just personally avenged the 1815 fall of the Kandyan Kingdom. I can only assume this means nobody's bottom lines were harmed by the scandal. As a country, we love kicking people out, but we hate to watch them go.

In and Around Mirissa: The Most Fascinating Beaches in Sri Lanka
Nava B&B - Located centrally near Mirissa's main attractions, the B&B was a pleasant surprise. Despite its unassuming entrance, the property exceeded our expectations with its modern, pristine rooms and unexpectedly spacious bathrooms. The décor, featuring artistic uses of cinnamon sticks for cloth hangers and door openers, as well as lampshades and wall decorations crafted from palm leaves, added a charming touch.
Nearby attractions were Parrot Rock, directly across from our hotel. Accessible via the Giragala Hotel, Parrot Rock is best visited during low tide, from November to April. The climb, though not steep, was challenging without steps but offered a stunning vantage point over the adjacent beaches and hotels. However, the erosion affecting Parrot Rock underscores the need for conservation efforts.
A short drive from Parrot Rock, Coconut Tree Hill offered another breathtaking perspective. This hillock, solely adorned with coconut trees, provided serene views of the ocean, making it a perfect spot for meditation, or simply enjoying tranquility.
Our adventure continued to Secret Beach Mirissa, accessible via a narrow road off the main highway. Secret Beach, true to its name, is a secluded paradise with crystal blue waters framed by hills and coconut trees, ideal for unwinding and enjoying a refreshing fruit juice from the nearby Secret Beach Bar.

Happy to report that I am 🔙🔛🔝
Despite the rocky start with the bad back and the plague, I’ve managed to make it through to the other side! My voice was still a mess at the start of the week and I still have a slightly lingering cough, but it’s a drop in the perfectly blue Indian Ocean.
I also met some very fun people in my hostel when I started moving down the southern beaches. We spent NYE on Mirissa Beach together—I didn’t go to the secret jungle rave afterparty as I was tired and haggard 😅 But it meant I got to have a lovely NYD having brunch, going to the beach and getting a massage.
We all left together to go to Udawalawe National Park to go on safari but I’ll write about that in a part 2!

How to Apply for an ETA:
Visit the Official Sri Lanka ETA Website: You can apply for your visa online via the official Sri Lanka ETA portal.
Provide Personal Information: You’ll need to provide basic personal details, travel information, and your passport details.
Payment: The ETA application requires a processing fee, which can be paid through the online portal.
Processing Time: The ETA is usually processed within a few days, but it's recommended to apply at least 72 hours before your departure.
Once approved, the ETA allows you to stay in Sri Lanka for up to 30 days. It can be extended for an additional 6 months if needed. Citizens of most countries are eligible to apply for an ETA, but it’s always a good idea to double-check the current visa policies for your country.
