SINOPSIS

Seraph of the End - Takaya Kagami/Yamato Yamamoto Vol. 1-11: An “I’ve watched the anime, I’m just starting the manga from the beginning” commentary.
-baby mika is A FORCE.
-i'd call that a compelling first chapter
-shinoa is an adult?
-yuu truly wears his heart on his sleeve
-idk if it's because i know the plot so far, but the manga doesn't really have the issues that i had with s1 of the anime
-the part where yuu stabs mika before he sees it's mika and they reunite while yuu's sword is cutting through mika, how good is that, that was inspired angst-wise
-THE BRIDAL CARRY, Mika why
-mika saving shinoa from berserk yuu, also inspired.
-wth have they created. why did they create something that says "all humans must be killed." GUREN, WHY
-yoichi has given yuu more hugs than he's ever gotten in his life, sweet lil soul
-guren straight-up calls himself yuu's "surrogate father" huh?
-one thing i like about yuu is how readily he praises people. he's just so openly enthusiastic over other people's successes
-"partners in failure" ahaha, that's cute
-oh so shinoa is also 16?
-me, every time a vampire: teethie!
-that desperate run of mika's through the soldiers to get to unconscious yuu, man, it got me in the anime and it gets me here. and shinoa and the gang, ugh, they really delivered.
-i love the yuu-mika reunion/blood-drinking scene so much.
-"if you want to save me, then let me save you first" aw, damn, yuu :')
-mika: now i'm a monster. yuu: so growl or something then. oh yuu.
-mika CANNOT handle this boy, this boy is too much for him. and he loves it. ("this boy" = yuu)
-mika is laughing, my heart :')
-a panel with yuu, kimizuki and mika fighting together, my heart :')
-mirai fifth trumpet, yuu second trumpet, okay.
-three months later yuu is still demon-ing??? the anime didn't tell me that. but- YAY FINALLY ON TO A NEW STORY beyond the anime!
-MIKA! throwing down the blood bottle like that! even if you don't trust shinoa, behave!
-i HOPE it's a good idea to trust the shinoa squad, mika, 'cause i might just be devastated if they're not being transparent.
-yes, i like that plan. let's rescue krul tepes before yuu turns into a demon.

4/10 Blog
Today we continued watching the anime series “Zipang” by Kazuhiro Furuhashi in our viewing of episodes 13,17, 21, and 25. Across episodes 13, 17, 21, and 25, the series delves into themes that resonate deeply with us viewers, prompting reflection on the nature of ethics and the complexities of human decision-making. One of the central themes in "Zipang" is the concept of moral responsibility. As the crew of the Mirai grapples with the consequences of their actions in the past, they are forced to confront the ethical implications of intervening in historical events. This theme is particularly evident in Episode 13, where Lieutenant Commander Kadomatsu's decision to demonstrate the Mirai's firepower sets off a chain of events that challenge their understanding of right and wrong. The series also explores the notion of duty versus personal convictions. In Episode 17, the crew faces pressure from Admiral Yamamoto to align themselves with his vision for altering the course of history. This forces them to reconcile their loyalty to their own time period with the moral imperative to prevent unnecessary suffering in the past. Additionally, "Zipang" grapples with the ethics of war and violence. In Episode 21, Captain Umezu and his crew find themselves engaged in a deadly conflict with overwhelming odds. As they weigh the human cost of their actions, they are forced to confront the moral complexities of wielding their technological superiority in a foreign time and place. Finally, the show touches on themes of identity and belonging. In Episode 25, Admiral Yonai challenges the crew of the Mirai to consider their role in shaping the future of Japan. Admiral Yonai's character in "Zipang" diverges sharply from characters from the past like Kusaka. While others seek to exploit the Mirai's technology for victory, Yonai advocates for Japan's defeat, prompting the crew to reassess their role. Instead of striving for victory at any cost, he advocates for a broader understanding of Japan's future. His suggestion that Japan should face the consequences of its actions, even if it means accepting defeat, prompts the crew to confront their own place in the grand scheme of things.

Never thought I’d see Hikari Mitsushima from First Love Hatsukoi managing a school boxing club

Japanese dramas and movies have been ramping up its female fighters on screen this past years and I’m here for it.
And then, there’s this guy getting thrown into the mix. 😂 Murakami Nijiro, from Alice in Borderland too.

Zipang Pt. 2 4/10/24
Again we further delve into the turbulent era of WWII and the crew of the Mirai, and how their actions despite their good intentions have directly affected how the war effort is playing out. I love the moral implications and dilemmas that these characters are faced with, especially in regards to Japan being their bigger obstacle in their life conservation efforts than the supposed enemy forces of the Allied forces. Specifically I enjoy the development of Kusaka as a character, with his realization of Japan's future effectively making him a wildcard figure that could stand to change everything about the modern world only due to the benevolent actions of the Mirai. Every time he's on screen he's just so captivating to watch as his ideals have adapted and evolved to where he's willing to take any measures to ensure his greater plans come to fruition, much to the dismay of Kadomatsu and the rest of the Mirai crew. This show just oozes moral complexity and it's best seen in episode 17 where Captain Umeza and Admiral Yamamoto have a talk about the current war efforts, where it is revealed how the admiral will die, a fact that is taken in stride by the high-ranking officer without a hint of guilt or fear, further exemplifying his youthful character and sensibilities as Umeza points out at the start of the conversation. The lingering effects of the Mirai's involvement are on full display with this bunch of episodes serving to further blur the line between each side's military. From tactics like Commander Hutton's near kamikaze like attempt to the hull of the Mirai and the full betrayal of the Japanese army on the crew of the Mirai in pursuit of maintaining the proper flow of time just further heightens the moral complexities at play in this anime. In short, I've been meaning to find an interesting work that discusses WWII and this is definitely a show that meets that criteria, and one that I will be rewatching on my own time.
Here we see the ill effects of time travel and how the Mirai's crew's efforts, despite their efforts to maintain the timeline while ensuring no unnecessary deaths they have cause a figure like Kusaka to potentially change the entire course of not just the war, but the development of Japan and potentially the world as a result.
This conversation between Admiral Yamamoto and Umeza is so layered with morality and philosophy, and it being intertwined with Kusaka's confrontation of Lt. Tsuji just makes it more relevant as to how the Mirai and it's crew will deal with the consequences of keeping an impatient and fully-realized man like Kusaka alive in this war effort. I just love the morality of this show and the complexity with how each character interprets the morality of war.
