what are you thinking, finn wolfhard?

everything i'm about to say aligns with my finn wolfhard is a genius agenda.

it was just made apparent to me that not only did finn wolfhard film it 2017 before season two, but he filmed his scenes as boris in the goldfinch literally DAYS before filming season three. this is extremely hard for me to conceptualize. but it also makes me think about finn wolfhard himself who obviously knows the truth about mike wheeler's sexuality. if byler is as deep seeded as we want it to be, odds are that finn knew what was up from the beginning. which makes a girl think- did he know the same about richie tozier when he first played him in 2017?

lets look at richie a bit.

richie is obviously gay. i will not be taking arguments on this. i'm reading a reddit thred right now where people are debating it and i'm like- are you kidding me. but he wasn't gay in the source material. stephen king has stated as much in a vanity fair article. though he calls andy muscetti's choice "genius" (which it is, btw), he makes it clear that it wasn't his intention. it's explicitly clear in it chapter 2, and being wired like a byler shipper, i was able to suss it out in the first movie, but was that andy muscetti's intention to begin with?

there are many ways this change can be interpreted. assuming that it wasn't something that was explicitly written into the original character description for richie in the first movie, you could see this as something that was put in as a sign of the times, a statement if you will. it chapter one was written in 2015-2016 while we were still under obama's presidency, one that saw drastic improvements for the quality of life of a gay person in america. it chapter two was written during trump's presidency and could have been trying to brand itself as a statement of sorts. i only say this because as far as i can find (and PLEASE tell me if i'm wrong) there wasn't nearly as much evidence hinting at richie's sexuality in the first movie as there is for mike or will to use a relevant example.

the idea that finn wolfhard could have gone straight from it filming (summer of 2016) to stranger things filming (early november 2016) just having played a character who he knows was in the closet and in love with his best friend in the 80s could open up new interpretation to mke in season two. oddly, the reason i bring this up is because richie tozier to me is the mirror image of a kid i was friends with in middle school. they acted the same, they even weirdly looked and dressed the same. the only time i've ever made the comparison between middle school kid and mike wheeler was during season two, specifically in the scene where max leaves them the note, which leads me to believe that he could have carried other things over from other aspects of the it production.

season two isn't what really concerns me though. i'm looking more at season three. the goldfinch only moved to production in albuquerque in april of 2018, which is obviously where finn wolfhard filmed all of his scenes. however, stranger things 3 started production on april 23rd, 2018, which means there might have even been crossover between finn's shooting dates if not at least a very short gap of time between them. it chapter 2 was filmed that same summer likely with some of it's own crossover with stranger things three dates. finn wolfhard's lack of scenes in the second movie are probably what made this possible, but the scenes that he did have tackled very delicate topics that had to be handled with care. most actors get their scripts for minor roles like this a few weeks out from filming, which means that finn could have had his scripts for it chapter 2 that very explicitly make it clear that he's gay during filming for stranger things 3.

so here he is with one gay character right before season 3 and one right after. he knows how to handle these things, which means that every move he's making, especially in season three, is most likely intentional, especially if he knows this far in advance about mike's sexuality. i think it's totally feasible that he does. i'm fifteen and i understand what was happening between byler during the fight scene, finn was sixteen and, being a part of this show, probably understood what was going on too even if he wasn't outright told. doing justice to a season like this when he was also having to figure out scenes like the boreo taxi scene or the arcade scene with henry bower's cousin or r + e was probably at the forefront of his mind.

in conclusion, i just have one question:

what does this mean, finn wolfhard?

do you think andalites would consider needing glasses a disability?

Okay, this question is fascinating because it really gets at the what the Social Model of Disability means by disability being situation-specific and society-constructed.

The Social Model defines disability as any bodily difference that is treated as abnormal, undesirable, and incorrect by society. For example, some types of facial scarring fit, and others don't. Harrison Ford and Jason Momoa likely don't count, because their facial scarring is widely considered normal or neutral. Seal and Kane Hodder might count as disabled, because Seal has endured many rude comments on his appearance and Hodder has been barred from a lot of roles due to his. If this seems arbitrary and cruel, then that's because discrimination is, in fact, arbitrary and cruel. A person with a cast on their arm is treated as infirm and needing help, albeit temporarily; a person with a compression brace on their arm gets the prosthesis ignored or othered. Deafness is a disability if no one around knows Sign and assistive technology is stigmatized; it stops being a disability the moment 3+ Deaf people hang out together. It really is that arbitrary, whom society treats as being disabled.

Anyway, within that framework, I would say that needing glasses used to count as a disability, but doesn't anymore.

Glasses certainly used to be stigmatized, because that's ableism for you. I have two loved ones (spouse, high school BFF) who A. can't read the top row of an eye chart that's 3' away, B. love learning and school, and C. refused to wear glasses in the 1990s even though it made learning impossible, because of the bulllying they got for needing lenses. And those are just the ones I know. I think about both of those kids, voracious learners who sacrificed their ability to read the board in order to avoid stigma, and I compare them to the (at least two) kids I know today who endure unneeded pain because they're too ashamed to use their canes in public.

However, there was a change in the mid-naughts. More and more TV characters had glasses, and not just the socially incompetent nerds anymore. Harry Potter becoming the icon of the naughts with glasses (and facial scarring!) probably helped. Fashion models wearing those black plastic frames certainly helped. A critical mass of so many young people needing corrective lenses (because of increased screentime in childhood) definitely helped move glasses away from "abnormal".

One signal for me that glasses no longer count as a disability is It (2019). The It novel and 1998 movie portray Richie Tozier's needing glasses as his qualification for the Losers Club — a group of kids who are friends because for various reasons (fatness, minority status, poverty, etc.) they're not allowed to fit in and will never fit in. The 2017-19 It movies give Richie glasses, but make it clear that he qualifies for the Losers Club not because he's myopic but because he's queer. (For example, he's chased by a living eyeball in the book, but the movie instead has him attacked while carving his initials next to another boy's.) A related example is the subtitles for Ouran High School Host Club; Honey's line from the scene where Kyoya gets hit in the face was translated in 2006 as "Bully! You can't hit someone who wears glasses!" but in 2022 as "Bully! You knocked his glasses off!", which suggests glasses are no longer viewed as an infirm condition.

So. I think an andalite would have to have any disability explained to them before they started stigmatizing it, because wheelchair use only counts as a disability because people make rude comments and refuse to build elevators. And I think that an andalite who arrived on Earth in 1996 might develop a different view from one who arrived in 2022. But it'd also depend on what part of Earth they explored, who they talked to, and a million other horribly arbitrary factors that determine whose body gets counted as being "wrong" by society.

Being a little silly rn bc my Greek mythology uni course has brought back my love for Percy Jackson. And thus of course this means I have to make headcanons for the losers club.

The problem is that some of them feel perfect and others feel a bit meh and open to change...

So here's my list from most to least correct imo

Beverly- Athena, not only does her personality fit, but also her bravery, her fighting ability and her hobby/job 10/10

Mike- Demeter, I just love the idea that Mike's family made demeter so proud that she fell in love w his father idk

Stan- Oracle, controversial maybe?? I just think stan doesn't fit one Olympian and I didn't want to do minor gods plus in the book he literally has a prophetic connection w maturin so it works

Bill- Zeus, obviously he's a leader and would have the most "power" out of the losers so he would be the child of one of the big three. I kept going between Poseidon and Zeus tho so I'm still not sure.

Ben- Hephaestus, I think architecture is definitely a type of building and he's always been a labourer at least in the book and maybe less so the movie. It makes the most sense imo

Eddie- Hermes, it took so long for me to decide the last 2 bc I kept switching eddie and richies parents but oh well. I think Hermes makes sense in the end because he's associated with travel crossroads and direction and eddie is the "compass". Plus he has the whole medical theme so that works.

Richie- Apollo, I had the most trouble deciding maybe bc he's one of my faves but idk dionysus felt too stereotypical for him and Hermes had the whole prankster thing but it feels too childish. Apollo feels wrong a bit also but richie is a performer in all canons and also his quick wit means he often predicts stuff before it happens and is now linked with stan in some way. And tell me Wentworth tozier doesn't have Apollo vibes

“I know.” He sighed. “But to tozier is our friend and if it weren’t for him, we probably would have rotted in castle rock. So let’s just enjoy tonight and get the hell out of dodge tomorrow.” I nodded and inched closer to him as we approached the stage Richie would be starting everything on.

“there’s something incredibly off about this town.” I whispered as I noticed missing posters and several booths that had a massive police presence. “I don’t like it. I thought castle rock was bad. I thought Shawshank was bad. This is worse.” Ace nodded.

“I feel like I’m being watched. And not like oh there’s a cop on the street corner making sure I don’t steal that car. Like someone is waiting for the perfect moment to strike.” Ace whispered, eyeing the crowd.

“but when you turn around there is no one there.” I finished. “Derry is a fucked up place from what Richie has said. Superstitions and disappearances and all that crap.”

“and have you seen all the shit with the clown? What’s with that? No one seems to acknowledge it but they all seem freaked out by it.” Ace shuddered. I stifled a laugh at him. “Oh come on, if there was ever a time for me to be superstitious it’s definitely now. Especially if what Richie said about his childhood is true.” I nodded and froze. I tugged on aces arm.

“ace, you seeing that clown?” I asked as the clowns grin grew. Ace nodded next to me, gulping and backing away. “We need to find Richie. Now.” I said before turning and running, ace holding tight to my hand and trying to keep up with me. I looked over my shoulder and my eyes widened when I couldn’t find the clown behind me. “Call Richie. Call him ace. Find out what the fuck he dragged us into.”

“like I could get my phone out right now.” Ace yelled as we turned a corner and raced towards the hotel we were staying at. “Maybe he’s in his room. Oh fuck!” The clown appeared out of no where and ace skidded to a halt, helping me stop as well.

“so you’re Richie’s new friends.” The clown said, eyes flashing between blue and yellow. “He left all his old ones here. Left them here to float. And you’ll float too, when I’m done.” I bent down to grab a rock, thinking if I could hit this clown in the head at least ace would be able to get away and I could beat his ass.

“yeah? Well guess what fuckface?” I said as I let go of aces hand. I jerked my head to the side to tell ace to run and despite the look of horror on his face, he nodded. “I have one thing to say to you.” Ace started to move behind me, trying to keep the clown in his sights but also keep me as safe as possible. “Yippee ki-ya mother…” I drooped as three bright lights overtook my vision. I felt like I was floating, being dragged towards the clown. Something tugged me back and the lights went out. “What the fuck?” I gasped as I looked up, seeing ace and Richie standing side by side with a baseball bat and a gun.

“we got you last time asshole. We’ll get you again.” Richie yelled. “You’re just a clown. And no one wants to be friends with the clown.” The clown screamed and backed away. Ace looked over at Richie before looking back at me. Extending a hand back, he helped me up. “Your dead lights don’t work no more asshole.” Staring at Richie, I caught on to what he was doing.

“you think that scared me you freak?” I yelled at the stop of my lungs. “You creep. You’re a fucked up loser. No one wants to be friends with you. No one wants to willingly be your dinner.” Ace stared at me as he held the baseball bat tightly. I moved next to Richie and stared the clown down. Ace tried to get in front of me but I put a hand on his arm to stop it. “You sleep for 27 years like an asshole who still lives in his mom’s basement, arguing with ten year olds on some punk ass video game as if you’re tough shit but you’re not.” Richie nodded and smirked, leveling the gun at the clowns head. I couldn’t tell if it was an optical illusion or not but the clown seemed to be shrinking.

“you washed up, two bit hack.” Richie yelled. “You thought it would take six of us to defeat you again? Nah. You’re so damn weak it only takes two!” The clown had shrunk so small and it was holding what looked like his heart in his hand. I gulped and watched as Richie fired off a shot. “And stay dead motherfucker. It’ll only take me next time.” The clown turned to dust and I nearly collapsed between the two men. “What the fuck was that Richie?” I asked. Richie hid the gun in the waistband of his pants and smiled at me.

“that was Pennywise. The clown I’ve told you about.” He shrugged. “I hope we finally killed him this time.” Richie spared a look over his shoulder at the remains of the clown. “Least we didn’t have to go to that abandoned house this time.” I shared a look with ace.

“And that…weird light…that had (Y/N) floating?” Ace asked. “What the fuck was that?”

“so I was floating.” I muttered. Ace nodded.

“dead lights. They hold the victim in a trance. Makes it easier for it to feed.” Richie said, rubbing my arm. “You alright? I’ve been caught in those. Not very fun.” I nodded.

“yeah I’m alright. Who got me down?” I asked. Richie smiled.

“Richie distracted the clown. I caught you.” Ace said softly. “You freaked me the fuck out.” I hugged ace and buried my head in his shoulder.

“It freaked me the fuck out.” I responded. “Is that why you asked us here Richie? To help you with that?” Richie shook his head.

“no. I didn’t know it was here til I flew in yesterday. But I’m glad for your help.” Richie admitted. We stood there for a while before Richie walked over and kicked away the remains of the clown. “Come on. Let’s do this carnival and then get the fuck out of dodge.” Ace and I nodded before following Richie back towards the carnival for Richie’s gig.

Eddie Kaspbrak lay in his hospital bed, his body battered and broken from the final battle with Pennywise the Dancing Clown. While the Losers' Club had emerged victorious, Eddie had paid a heavy price. His spinal cord had a minor injury from Pennywise’s piercing claw, thus leaving him temporarily unable to walk. 

He was now faced with the daunting task of relearning how to walk through physical therapy. But doctors weren’t sure if he would walk again. It would be a miracle - just like his survival.

As Eddie stared out the window, nervous about his first day, he heard a familiar voice behind him. "Hey, Eds, mind if I join you?" Richie Tozier's voice cut through the silence of the hospital room. He had another chocolate pudding with him from the hospital’s cafeteria.

Eddie forced a smile. His best friend had done more than he should have, even remaining in Derry when he had comedy shows to perform. "Hey, Richie. Sure, come on in." He motioned for Richie to take a seat next to his bed.

Richie settled into the chair, his eyes scanning Eddie's bandages. "You ready for today?"

Eddie's smile faded slightly. "Honestly, Rich, I'm scared. Scared that I won't be able to walk properly again, that I'll be stuck like this forever. And I wish they could move me out of Derry! I don’t want to stay in this fuckin’ shithole. But, I don’t want to go back to New York either. What if... I have to stay in rehabilitation for the rest of my life?

Tears threatened his eyes, but he forced them away. He divorced Myra over the phone a month ago. She did not take that well, immediately disallowing him anything they owned on their property. Eddie was saving what money he had for all these medical expenses. 

Richie reached out and placed a comforting hand on Eddie's shoulder. "Hey, don't think like that, alright? You're a fighter, Eddie. You've survived Pennywise twice. You'll get through this too."

Eddie sighed, his gaze drifting back to the window. It was a nice sunny day outside. He always went for jogs. "I know, but it's just so frustrating. I used to take walking for granted, you know? And now, I can barely move without feeling intense pain."

Richie nodded empathetically. "I get it, Eddie. It's going to be tough, but you're not alone in this. We're all here for you, every step of the way."

Eddie's eyes flickered with a glimmer of hope. "Thanks, Richie. I don't know what I'd do without you guys."

They both felt that magnetic pull, wanting to kiss each other. That feeling had been there since they were kids and the first time they met back up in the restaruant. Eddie shook it away, looking away from Richie as the doctors entered the room. How could Richie have feelings for a man like him? 

"Now, come on, let's get through this physical therapy together. You've got this!” Richie gave him a thumbs up as the nurses helped him into a wheelchair.

Weeks passed, and Eddie's journey through physical therapy was more challenging than he anticipated. The sessions were grueling, pushing his injured spine to its limits both physically and mentally. Eddie never sweat so much in his life. 

One day, when he was clasping the bars of the balance beam, Eddie fell to his knees out of exhaustion and lay on the ground, curling into a fetal position, his body trembling with pain as he struggled to catch his breath. Tears welled up in his eyes fearing he’d never fully recover.

As the doctors were encouraging him to stand up, Richie rushed to Eddie's side, kneeling down beside his friend, and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Hey, Eds," he said softly, his voice filled with empathy. "It's gonna be okay. You're gonna get through this."

Eddie sniffled and looked up at Richie, his expression a mixture of pain and frustration. "I can't do this, Richie," he whispered, his voice trembling. "I can't bear the pain anymore. What if I'm stuck like this forever?"

Richie's grip on Eddie's shoulder tightened slightly, offering him a sense of support. "I know it's tough, Eddie," he replied, his voice filled with determination. "But you're stronger than you think. You've faced worse before, remember? We defeated that freaking clown together!"

Eddie nodded weakly, memories of their battle with Pennywise flooding back. Despite the pain, he managed a faint smile. "Yeah, you're right," he conceded. "We did beat that son of a bitch!” Eddie wiped away his tears and took a deep breath, finding a renewed determination within himself. 

He looked up at Richie, gratitude shining in his eyes. "Thanks, Richie," he said, his voice filled with sincerity. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

Richie flashed a small, genuine smile. "You'll never have to find out, Eddie," he replied, his voice filled with warmth. "We're in this together, always. And I'll be right here, being the best cheerleader ever!"

As Eddie slowly got back on his feet, without hesitating, he kissed Richie. The other man was surprised, but he didn’t pull away, kissing him back. They stood there in their embrace for the longest time as the physical therapists gave them space. This was long overdue after all. 

Slowly but surely, Eddie progressed with each passing day, regaining more strength. Eventually, he didn’t have to use a walker. Eddie's face would light up with joy every time he achieved a new milestone, and Richie cheered him on, proud of Eddie’s resilience.

One day, as Eddie prepared for his last physical therapy session, Richie stood beside him, holding his hand, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Hey, Eddie, guess what? I bet you can outrun me in a race once you're back on your feet."

Eddie smirked, his competitive spirit reawakening. "Oh, really? You're on, Tozier! You better start stretching now!”

Richie raised an eyebrow playfully. "Oh, you think you can take me on, Spaghetti Man?" he teased, his voice laced with mock arrogance. "Well, bring it on, Kaspbrak. I've been practicing my victory dance."

“Yeah, says the guy with two left feet!”

With the therapists acting as referees, Eddie and Richie positioned themselves side by side, their gazes locked in determination. The countdown began, and as the final number echoed through the air, they exploded into a sprint, their feet pounding against the ground.

Eddie could feel the wind rushing past him, his muscles working in sync with his willpower. This was... incredible. As he sprinted, Eddie could hear Richie's laughter mixed with shouts of encouragement, spurring him on. Was Richie fading behind on purpose or did he really find the ability to run again?

As they neared the finish line, Eddie's heart raced with exhilaration, pushing himself to his limits, and in that final burst of strength, he crossed the finish line just a fraction of a second before Richie, 

Their bodies colliding in an embrace of laughter and triumph, they stood there, breathless and elated, Eddie leaned on Richie, both of them catching their breath, as they buzzed with the thrill of the race. 

"I told you, Richie!" Eddie panted, satisfaction in his voice. "You may be the clown, but I'm the one who outran you."

Richie chuckled, his face beaming with pride. "Damn right, Eddie," he replied, his voice filled with admiration. "I just... have one question for you."

“What’s that, Richie?” Eddie asked, tilting his head. His arms still remained clasped around his large body.

“Now, that you’re better. Do you... want to come back to L.A. with me?” Richie asked, sheepishly, nervously looking away. 

Eddie answered, standing on his tiptoes, and kissing Richie.

daily reminder day 56: eddie k-tozier is alive and well and him and richie are having a nap date. they used to do this all the time back before the 20 years they forgot each other. eddie would go to richie’s house sometimes after school because he couldn’t sleep well the night before. eddie would tell his mom that he was going over to bill’s house to study when really he would go over to richie’s to nap, and richie would nap as well because he’d never pass up taking a good nap. the two would always sleep close to each other, but over time they got so close that they’d hold each other and they found that that’s how they slept best. richie called them nap dates because he considered everything the did together as a date, even if it was just napping. especially since they were dating at the time. fast forward to now years later, and nothing has changed. eddie always looks forward to their nap dates since they can’t have them as often now with them both working during the day. but when they get the chance to have one, it’s honestly the best sleep.

(hey i kinda took a break the last couple days because i wasn’t feeling the best hey! i’m back now. i’m sorry for the minor inconvenience.)
