While for sure we have seen former Rake now Kate's beloved whipped husband, and Colin bridgerton who is so smitten with his dearest wife that it will not come forward a surprise if he hasn't set foot out in all these days, but Benedict bridgerton is neither whipped nor smitten, he is, as the poets would whisper, obsessed. It will be amusing to know who this mystery lady is, with her dazzling silver gown and piercing eyes, sharp enough as she carved the gentleman's heart out.

Benedict was a man for art and muse so forgive him if he got so obsessed with you, the real question was, how could he not ? You were the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen, clad in your most dazzling blue dress that he wanted nothing but to take off.

" She exaggerates." Anthony pouted, he shouldn't know that he had but he's been pouting a lot lately, it's called 'kateffect'

" No, you've been domesticated brother, just admit it, Kate has tamed you." Colin peppered, sprawling down next to Anthony who greeted him with the most glaring glare.

" Like you're any better." Anthony smirked, setting his gaze on Benedict who read the index again.

" Penelope doesn't know her name ? " Benedict worried his jaw, looking between his brothers.

" I take that back, Penelope didn't exaggerate, you're really very much obsessed." Anthony remarked, Colin nodded.

" Oi, she would've known your mystery lady's full name and history but—"

" Don't complete that, I'll duel you."

" In the middle of a ball ? " Benedict laughed, eyes amused, Colin turned a crimson red.

" Rather tempting—"

" Oi! " Anthony raised his brow, his mouth curving in disdain, as Colin staggered away, leaving Anthony praying to lord behind like he was any better.

" Oh dear." Benedict smiled when once alone, thumb caressing the index, as if it was the mystery lady in silver blue gown, accused of taking away the gentleman's heart.

" Who are you ? " He whispered.

" In yesterday's masquerade ball, I was dancing with a Bridgerton—" Mrs. Turner tutted softly," He's Benedict bridgerton, i assume."

" Yes, indeed, the only bachelor bridgerton boy of age." Mrs. Turner pulled the corset strings and you gasped, feeling your internals squeeze in the process.

You smiled, thinking about the way Benedict looked at you, all stars in his eyes.

" I..it is not my place miss but as your well wisher, i would say.." she worried her jaw.

" It's okay Mrs. Turner, you should speak your mind." You assured her, feeling her fingers stop at your back as she looked at your reflection in the mirror.

" Benedict bridgerton's a rake, unlike any other gentleman... he's known to engage women with class and wits...artists, musicians, and other dimplomacy that are odd amongst our sex."

" Oh." You nodded, feeling stupid enough to think those were meant for you, like they were of real affection.

" I wouldn't want you any harm, after your father's death and your inheritance affairs, you couldn't afford another scandal, for a good match—"

" My virtue should stay intact ? " You raised your chin, examining the stain of rose on your lips.

" Your sister was a good girl madam, so are you." Mrs. Turner smiled, her eyes crinkling with deepest concerns.

Benedict's eyes were searching for you everywhere, he has been waiting for you since so long. Despite anxious mamas forcing introductions and dances, he was looking only for you.

" Miss Rose." Benedict turned to see his sister in law, smiling a smirk, followed by her husband in tow.

" You wound me Pen, it's Benedict bridgerton! " He laughed, much to Colin's dismay.

" Oh well your mystery lady is Miss Rose, daughter of late Duke of Blair field and lady bloom." Colin was one step away from clapping.

" Wow." Benedict's mouth curved in a delightful 'o'.

" Oh well they are rather scandalous, her sister was rumoured to be not a virgin which deceased all of her prospects of marriages, her mother is rather protective of her."

" Pen, did I tell you how you're my favourite sister ? " Benedict perked his gaze towards the entrance, hoping for you to bless him.

" Don't let Eloise hear that." Colin said, outstretching his arm that Penelope held as they swirled between the crowd, laughing.

" I understand, mama." You bowed your head once, trying to forget the trembling of her hands.

" Don't engage in gossips dearest, better keep to yourself and..." She forgot what she was saying, her lips trembling along, you looked at Mrs. Turner with a pleading gaze.

" Ma'am, we must make haste." She simply said, your mother spared a glance to you, her mouth tightening around the corners.

" You look beautiful child." She looked away, you pretended not to see the tear that glistented down her cheek.

After securing yourself in the carriage, with your dress squeezing the life out you, you finally breathed.

" I envy Gissele." You said softly, caressing the uneven glittering fake diamonds.

" She would say the same." Mary mumbled, she was Mrs. Turner's daughter who rather got scolded every often for being too blunt. You liked her alot.

" Oh wouldn't it be so wonderful to just lay in bed, reading a book and wearing simple soft dresses." You perked up at the idea of a life like that, a simple homely cottage, filled with warmth and sweetness and books.

" But the society has it's own fun, look at you, pretty dresses, pretty shoes, and all those prince charming lords." Mary took your fan and mimicked the motion, you smiled.

" Well you could always borrow a dress, have some fun." Your eyes glinted, Mary shaked her head.

" C'mon." You grabbed her wrist, shaking them, up and down profusely.

" No, mama will kill me ! "

" But the fun ?! No one would know, they haven't seen me, they don't know me."

" Well i can't pretend to be you, what would happen if somebody caught us."

" Sounds like a bad idea." Mary said, her smile deceived her.

" Oh Mr. Bridgerton's a known gentleman." You scoffed at that, Mary's brow knitted together as she studied you.

" What ? He's a rake." You brushed the tingling away, feeling the way Benedict's gaze lingered on you, the way he twirled you around like you were the only real thing, the way he flushed and stumbled through his words, attempting to know absolutely anything about you.

" I highly doubt that, never heard anything about him."

" Presumably he has a longing for accomplised women." You finger quoted it with a scowl that was too unladylike, Mary bursted into fits of giggles.

" What ? " You poked her, she shaked with her guffaw, chortling in her way.

" You fancy him." She said, chuckling the ' him' away, you frowned deeply, heart leaping at the ton that was gathered outside lady Danbury's exquisite ball.

" Utter rubbish. Do you still want to have fun ? " You asked, Mary smiled.

Benedict gaze perked up when you and Mary stumbled through the ball, Mary was almost shaking and you were sure her clothes didn't fit much to you, you felt your back prickling with burning gaze and you turned.

" Told you he's a rake. Don't be friendly to him." You whispered to Mary who was about to run when Benedict dropped his conversation with lord White, swaggering towards you.

" What if he recognises you ? " She mumbled and your lower lip trembled, but that's not possible, your mask obscured your whole face except your lips and eyes and certainly he hadn't painted you in his mind, afterall he shouldn't be that obsessed.

" My lady." He bowed, his gaze locking in yours as he kissed the hand Mary very reluctantly gave him, he was amused when Mary mumbled a hasty greeting, her manners mimicked.

" You look exquisite, more than the ball itself." He was clearly flattered when Mary blinked hard, looking at you for help.

You rolled your eyes when Benedict too, looked at you with a similar pleading as Mary.

" Forgive me my lord, my lady is tired—"

" We haven't been introduced i remember, Benedict bridgerton." He grinned, he actually freaking grinned as Mary glanced at you with the corner of her eye.

" Lady Mariam Turner." She blurted it quickly, looking at you for approval, " A pleasure." Mary smiled, you nodded.

" Forgive me Mr. Bridgerton." You cleared your throat, Benedict's gaze penetrated through you, he was setting you on fire and you couldn't do anything but to burn.

" My lady is tired, you must excuse us." You felt your throat dry, your whole body withering when Benedict narrowed his eyes, lingering specifically on your lips and treading down slowly.

" Indeed, I must not keep you." He cocked his head to Mary, humming along as you strode past him. You were sure he only whispered the ' not ' out of curtsy.

" That was bloody brilliant ! " You giggled while Mary shaked her head, clutching her bossom. Your footsteps echoing in the abandoned corridor, stiffling back your giggles.

" That was bloody scary and I can't breathe." Mary heaved, her breath easing when you patted her back.

" Lady Mariam Turner." You teased, bumping your hip as Mary looked at you, gasping scandalously.

" Shut up. I almost died." Mary pulled her dress that sticked to her skin, trying to fan in some air.

" Do you think he recognised me ? " Your cheeks blazed at the heat of the memory of him, his teasing glances and amused smiles.

" I...I think it was rather amusing that we were messing up, did you see how I trembled? " Mary shaked her hand, as you laughed at the display.

" No, my lady." You said, once your giggles subsided, " You were exquisite."

Mary wacked your arm, her smile unable to hide through the twitch of her lips.

" So, shall we go home ? "

" Would you mind waiting in the carriage ? "

" Don't tell me—" Mary glared, you pouted with puppy eyes.

" Please, you know it's my only way."

" Smoking is bad." Mary declared, " and for men." She added grimly, you nodded along, grabbing her wrist.

" Please, please, please."

" Only if you give back my clothes, i miss them." She touched the soft cotton of her clothes that you were wearing, you perked up eagerly.

You took joy at the puffs of smoke that ridiculed the air, the night chill freezing it into clouds of silvery mist.

Mary was dozing off in the carriage until it was time to go home, so early arrival doesn't raise any questions and your mother fast asleep, her trembling lipped questions saved for the next day.

" I thought your lady was tired." You almost dropped your cigar, jumping up the swing as it creaked at sudden outburst.

" Don't drop it, i don't have any with me." His smile was too big and smug for his face, his nonchalance dripped as he took the swing opposite of you. You stared, for some reason cigar still burning in intricate yellow blazing circles, dropping to ashes.

" Forgive me my lord—" you just remembered you were no longer in Mary's clothes.

" That's the only line you grasped so far ? " Benedict leaned on his swing, catching your wrist as he dragged you to sit.

You sat down with a thud, swing jiggling with your weight as you processed his smile.

" I..." You stammered, flushing in heat as he inhaled you in, you were back in your clothes, the one you were supposed to wear. And Mary was right, you couldn't breathe.

" I would say you look beautiful, in everything, in anything..or—" in nothing.

" I should leave." You throat itched.

" Stay." He was soft, almost a whine, a plead.

" Please don't tell anyone." You tried your best persuading smile, it worked on Gissele all the time, your lips pouting and eyes shining with stars.

Benedict's mouth curved in a smile, he clicked his tongue as he attempted to speak but he found he couldn't. A pause, then—

" You love tormenting me, don't you ? " Benedict took the burning cigar from you, locking your eyes with his own as he brought it to his mouth, a sound escaped him as his lips curved around the warmness that belonged to you, he inhaled deeply.

" I don't know what you're talking about." You tore away you eyes from the erotic display of smoking, he hummed in a dry scoff.

" Ofcourse, you wouldn't." He offered the Cigar back, every word coated with sarcasm.

The breeze was so cold that you shivered, moon hanging low in the night sky and every star stared back, Sirius, Rigel, and all of them.

" I never meant to offend you." You took the cigar back, his fingers brushed, a electrifying wave rippling inside you, like the way he held your hand and danced with you in the masquerade ball.

You noticed his flexing but said nothing, heart beating too fast to be sane and alive.

" Miss Rose—" you gasped, how could he know your name, "—have you ever been kissed ? "

" I...Benedict..lord." you clamped your mouth shut, lips suddenly struck by a bolt as they buzzed.

He leaned as you felt your back touching the rope of swing, his face too close... would he kiss you ? Would it be as electrifying as the rest of his touches ? Would you survive it or simply burn like a pheonix ?

" It's okay, we would alot when we get married. " He took away the cigar and dropped it as it was so close to burn your skin, smiling all the while. Was that a proposal ?

" Go home, it's getting cold, Mrs-yet-to-be bridgerton." And he pressed his lips against your forehead, his smile caressing your heart.

Rigel's note 🪩: while I loved this idea especially the hilarious ' Benedict gets what he wants....sex ' but I needed to base it, so it doesn't come as pervy and non con as it might, to make it comfortable enough to write on my part, I have tried to break it into parts, this part is generally meet up and getting obsession with y/n ( no use in fic ) and other will be courting and marriage bliss. what's with the latest thing about simone on twitter?? what did shondaland do now

basically it's the latest in a long list of shondaland snubbing simone.

so, two days back netflix made this post linking to an article by tudum promoting season 3.

in talking about the s3 cast the article made mention of every single minor character that has made an appearance in the show.

guess who never got an honorary mention in spite of being the leading lady of the most successful bridgerton season?

and of course people tried to come up with excuses about how maybe kate won't be around this season, even though she has talked in interviews about kate's role as a supporting character in s3 (not to mention that even if she were to make just a fleeting cameo, imagine bending over backwards to justify characters like cressida or brimsley or the mondrichs being mentioned but not the main draw of the previous season).

the only mention of kate was as anthony's "love interest". i guess penelope gets to be the star of the entire show (that's supposed to be about the bridgerton family but has turned into the lady whistledown show) but kate can't even be seen on equal terms with anthony when it comes to her own season.

coincidentally the writer of the article is the same woman who messed up kate's name in an article about the families of the bridgerton universe about two months ago.

and this disrespect towards simone and her character isn't a recent development.

simone was the only cast member to be excluded from the promotional video for season 3 (where they just so happened to use the kathony finger trick that was an easter egg for their love story and number of children they would have)

also, when shondaland published an article about season 3 less than two months after kate and anthony's season premiered, they made sure to mention NC by name as the star of the show. meanwhile the leading lady of the season they'd just released, which had become a huge success surpassing that of s1, was an unnamed "South Asian woman".

that's on top of the atrocious treatment of simone during season 2, where she was reduced to a side character in an ensemble show, where the production was more concerned with selling NC as the next female lead (from the solo poster and EW photoshoot to her face as the fucking thumbnail of the teaser for kate and anthony's season) and to a lesser degree the upcoming QC spin-off.

Okay, so I’ve kept quiet on this blog so far about the shit I had to deal with this past week, but I feel like I need to make a post addressing it – as a reminder that you don’t have to be an asshole to fanfic writers, just because they write stuff you do not like to read.

I’ve been publishing fanfiction since I was 12 years old. I’ve received some nice hate comments through the years, and been in fairly toxic fandoms. Mostly, however, my experience with fanfiction has been calm and friendly. I write a lot about minor characters and ships, and the topics and themes in my stories are fairly mild compared to some of the stuff you can find on AO3. However, none of those fanfic experiences I had over the past decade comes close to the insanity that I had to deal with in the Bridgerton fandom recently. And I tried to laugh it off, but honestly, I might as well go on a bit of rant.

Just to try and summarize what’s been happening: A week ago I started publishing a Kathony fanfiction I’ve finished writing recently. It’s a what-if scenario about what might have happened, had Anthony actually married Edwina. I love to write angst, so this was a perfect fic idea for me, and I also stated in the tags and A/N that it will have a HEA for Kate and Anthony. And, well, people have lost it. I’ve received tons of ridiculous hate comments, insults to me and my writing, and even had a kind anon in my inbox who told me to kms. It’s been absolutely insane. A part of me is laughing about it, but I’m also in shock that such an innocent fanfic idea has provoked such immense hatred.

Now, I never would have expected this kind of reaction. And it’s been difficult to figure out what it was that bothered people so much. Here’s what I gathered from the response I’ve received:

For one, apparently there are a lot of people that believe this fic cannot have a happy ending if Kate ends up as Anthony’s mistress. This type of thinking surprised me, and I guess it’s the result of two worlds colliding. Maybe those people mostly read HR, and considering mistresses and such are usually not treated very nicely in those fictional historical romances, they immediately assume I have the same kind of screwed views on women as they do. They were also bothered by me not tagging it as Anthony/Edwina (even though the fic isn’t about them, and I only tag ships that are actual romantic ships in my stories), and hated that Anthony and Edwina had sex (though I honestly couldn’t have written this fic without them having sex and thought this was kind of implied by them being married). I now added a tag for the latter, so people know about it beforehand. But the thing is, the summary and tags clearly stated that this is a fic in which Anthony and Edwina are married, and that it’s about Kate and Anthony finding their HEA despite it. Everything they were mad about was already stated in the tags, summary, A/N or – at the very least – in the beginning of the first chapter.

Then, people apparently went through my other fanfics and realized I mainly write about Anthony and Siena. And well, that surely made them angry for some reason. I feel like this part is mostly projection – they don’t multi-ship and believe other can’t either. They’ve been accusing me of purposely trying to screw up Anthony and Kate, and basically tried to tell me what will happen in my story they have not even read yet. It’s honestly insane to me how they know that I love Anthony and Siena, yet for some reason believe I am trying to destroy Kate’s character by making her a mistress. Like – Siena is quite literally Anthony’s mistress in the show. If I had any issue with mistresses during that time period, Siena would not be my favorite character, neither would I love her affair with Anthony. Not to mention that the one multi-chapter fic series I’ve written about Anthony and Siena so far ends with their canon breakup and puts Siena through more shit than Kate will have to grow through in my current Kathony fic. I guess they do not care about this as they don’t care about Siena. And considering some of those comments had pretty misogynistic undertones, I’m going to assume they probably wouldn’t be bothered by how I write Siena, considering she’s already basically a courtesan.

Of course, I’ve also received a lot of amazing comments, and I’m extremely grateful for all the support. Nonetheless, this type of behavior is simply not acceptable. If you do not like a fic, don’t read it. If you started reading a fic and realize that you do not like where the story is going, don’t like the writing or the writer’s take on those characters and relationships, stop reading. Fanfic writers don’t work for you, and their content won’t always be perfectly curated to your own personal interests.

Writers will try and explore many different scenarios. They will have different interpretations of the characters and ship dynamics, might want to explore different aspects to a character which you might not agree with, and will purposely create storylines to do so. You do not have to like everything that is published on AO3 – not everything is meant for you. And if you do not like a fic, move on to the next. Or create your own. Being an ass to fanfic writer is just shitty behavior.

I spend my free time writing fics because I enjoy it. I write stories I like to explore for myself, and sometimes I edit those fics and publish them, because you never know who might be interested in reading this as well. I’m extremely thankful to all those amazing writers out there, sharing their stories for free – especially when I’m the only person leaving a kudo and comment. I’m so glad they decided to post stories only a few people are interested in, and I’m trying to do the same with my fanfics. Knowing that there are people out there who enjoy the stuff I write as much as I do, is enough for me to sit down and create those stories in my free time. And it can take a lot of time and effort, but it’s worth it. And hate comments completely ruin that experience for everyone.

Mind you, those comments won’t keep me from writing, and they don’t bother me too much either. I’m just a bit tired of them. But I’m sure that I’m not their only victim. And the next writer they harass might be a teenage girl who has just started writing fanfiction and will be completely devastated.

And despite all the lovely comments I’ve received, I definitely don’t have as much fun writing this story as I used to in the beginning. And it sucks, because I know very well that people can usually tell when a writer has lost their passion for a story. I’m sure that this is probably their goal – to harass writers enough so they stop writing. I obviously won’t stop writing this fic – I’ve already written the entire story down either way – but it’s exhausting how comfortable people are with ruining an entire reading and writing experience for everyone involved, when they could easily just not read a story that is clearly not meant for them.

I really do not know what the issue within the Bridgerton fandom is. Whether there are a lot of younger people who have joined a fandom for the first time in their life and simply don’t know how to act. Or if this behavior is quite normal to this type of genre and I simply lack experience in it. But neither of those explanations would make it okay. It’s pure entitlement. Fanfic writers don’t exist to please you.

If you consume fanfiction, you should also respect the writers. People are out their attending university classes while working two part time jobs and then decide to post a 100k word fic simply for other people to enjoy. They don’t earn anything from it. And it’s the caring and supportive community those stories create which is also keeping fanfiction alive. Trying to destroy that community while also still consuming fanfiction is simply egoistic.

So if you like reading fanfiction, be nice to the writers. And if you cannot accept that not every fanfiction is meant for you, and feel the need to be an asshole to writers – well, then maybe you should not engage with fanfiction at all.

Sorry for saying it like that, but sometimes I would like some of your mutuals to learn to shut up. Simone has spoken several times about Kathony and not just about a dance. I know it's not their fault but now these people are saying that those "misogynists and racists fans" only care about their white man and that they will drag Simone if necessary. I know it wasn't their intention but they have given them a reason to continue criticizing Jonny. I know this sounds bad but it's always the same circle. Some fans say something, they say JB fans (even if they are also Simone's, as much or more) are shit and her anons start filling his tag. I don't even care about actors anymore, but I loved Kathony and I can't watch it the same anymore. I know it's not your fault but it's very frustrating. Simone has spoken several times about Kathony and we have a lot to thank her for and it's okay to admit it. Jonathan hasn't said anything and there is nothing wrong with that as some fans (annie and co) are trying to imply.

this isnt the first time annie and her lot have implied how simone cares more about kanthony and made it into a bad thing that jonathan supposedly does not (annie uses jonny naming violet and edmund as his favourite bridgerton couple as proof)

so this isnt new at all, and that is why they were called out.

look, annie does not need a reason to attack jonathan at this point as we all have seen. she does that every time the man moves. it looks like she is a bigger fan of him than we are bc her whole personality is about him. i know she is now calling him a rat or something and that’s not the first insult she has come up with. she will continue blaming jonathan bailey for all of the world’s problems as according to her, he is the most horrible person on this planet

i do understand though that as a fan of jonathan is it frustrating to see him and his fans being dragged unnecessarily in the tags, especially with his new show airing and new fans joining his fandom, and have lies spread about him and his fans.

but please know that annie and her lot are a minority. a vocal one, but a minority nonetheless. they are white women who have no jobs and only token stan a woc to make themselves feel better and NOTHING MORE.

I like that they show how they are still pretty much incapable of stop touching each other but now out in the open without any constraints.

It is my HC that these two would scandalize more than one mama at some ball with their constant need to touch the other. 😍

And yes, I love how in the epilogue they make an extra effor in saying that they were on an honeymoon for six months, basically in bed for another six hours, but still they couldn't stop touching each other and flirting. In front of his family, too. In the books they are very much in love, even embarassingly so (ask their kids) even after years of marriage, and they totally depicted that in that epilogue's scene.

Thoughts on Edwina’s Characterisation:

imo book!edwina kind of read as tragic in a way even tho that definitely wasn’t JQ’s intention. she is meant to be one of the smartest people in the room, yet constantly has to moderate her thoughts and opinions in order to play the perfect debutante. none of her suitors,especially not Anthony, really knew her or actually wanted to know the real her. I don’t think she would have been as outspoken or even as bold as kate. but she very clearly read as a woman who had long since learned to mute or mellow her personality. she has had to tame the parts of her that weren’t demure or polite. largely bc she knows that it’s how she needs to act to marry well to help her family. but also bc of the societal pressures on her. everything about her felt like she was play acting the role of the perfect debutante/lady/trophy wife. it felt very real and that is what made her feel tragic.

i remember reading a quote somewhere saying ‘a woman's first blood doesn't come from between her legs, but from biting her tongue’ (no idea who said it originally), which honestly fits Edwina (atleast how I see her) to a tee. if I’m being honest i don’t think the show will really explore this. largely bc it seems that in the show, edwina is a romantic wanting true love and not a girl who would had to marry well for her family.

i hope her relationship with kate is done better tho. i understand edwina wanting kate’s approval but i found it hard to believe that an 18 year old would be happy to be managed/hovered around to the level that the show seems to suggest. tbh though i get the feeling that this fandom will not be able to handle any real conflict with the two sisters without making Edwina out to be ungrateful or in the wrong. or constantly complain that their sisterly bond was ruined by the writers. instead of it you know being a very normal thing for siblings to do.

I was starting to think that I was the only one who had a problem with the study scene. I too almost stopped reading the book at that point but everyone else loves it. And I really don’t get why? It starts with him stepping on her hand, her biting him, then we’ve got the kiss without ANY consent and it ends with him throwing the keys at her feet. I don’t find ANY part of that scene romantic or hot even funny. And I’m VERY nervous as to what they are going to do with it in the show. And yeah I’m worried about the lead up to the wedding night bit as well. Antony basically refusing to wait and going on about his “marital rights” was…ugh.

You’re definitely not the only one who had a problem with the study scene, and while I think most people have a problem with aspects of it, I think we’re in the minority for having a problem with most/all of it? I would probably feel differently about the scene if I thought there was a good discussion and apology of it in the book, but there isn’t. (The only reason I kept reading was because I figured JQ had to have made the apology worth it, but I was left severely disappointed.)

I certainly feel like I’m in the minority for how I think it should have been resolved and what needed to be discussed/happen for it to be an appropriate apology. I think a lot of the time it just becomes yet another instance of Anthony beginning to show remorse and saying sorry and Kate instantly forgiving him and showing unlimited grace. (I’m talking about in the fandom rather than in canon, because in canon the initial apology should have had a follow up at least once they were married, ideally after their love declaration?)

Which, don’t get me wrong, Kate was always going to forgive Anthony, but there’s never any discussion or proper explanation for why he did and said what he did. Let’s not forget, he was downright cruel; he wanted to scare her and he humiliated her. He was a hypocrite as well because he duelled Simon for the very same thing he’s just done; kissed a lady and then told her he’s not going to marry her. And then to add insult to injury, he sends her sister a bouquet of flowers the day after with the greeting “Last night was dull indeed without your shining presence.” Which, lbr, Anthony will have had to arrange that in the cold light of day the morning after. It’s just my opinion (as is everything I’m saying), but it feels a little bit like he’s following up to be even more...spiteful?

(​And obviously this isn’t even getting into the added complicated dynamic of a white man wanting to scare and humiliate a woc because he can’t handle his desire for her.)

So when Kates forgives Anthony so instantly the moment Anthony tries to properly apologise, it feels a little...flimsy? Because I feel like there’s no real acknowledgement of just how much it hurt Kate? There’s this focus on Anthony’s guilt over the matter, and having it be absolved as quickly as possible, but there never seems to be the same focus on how it affected Kate, with Anthony explaining his feelings (and his inability to handle and process them), and why he acted as he did towards her.

Idk, I just feel like Kate never gets proper closure over it because it just becomes about Kate’s unlimited supply of grace and forgiveness, and it completely ignores her anger and hurt over the incident, as well as her insecurities and how the whole thing played up to them? (I also think that’s part of a larger thing where people think that Kate’s insecurities immediately disappear the moment she marries Anthony and he tells her how much he desires her, but that’s another (related but long) conversation lol.

(Sorry for the digression but I reread the scene at the weekend and I got angry all over again, so apologies if that descended into rant territory lol. There’s something about the whole thing that causes such a visceral reaction in me. )

Look, let’s be honest, the general audience don’t have the best impression of Anthony after season one, so if they keep the scene as it is in the book, it’s just going to alienate him even further. They have to change it, because otherwise I can’t see how they’re going to keep the audience rooting for Kate and Anthony to get together if he treats her as he does in the book.

You can keep their sniping, and the overall tone of their interaction from the study, without making it physical or downright cruel, and making sure that the kiss is very clearly consensual on both their parts. It could be a very charged, intense and sexy scene, but they’ve got to make changes and handle it with care. And after what happened in season one, and them keeping an iteration of that scene between Simon and Daphne, I’m not sure I have the faith in them to do that.

Yeah, the scene in the carriage after they marry is another point at which I nearly stopped reading. Tbh, I feel like they could still have that conversation (minus Anthony replying “my rights”), but have it dovetail into the conversation they have when they first enter the bedroom, and Anthony asks if someone has hurt Kate? So they could show Kate as nervous in the carriage ride and meeting the staff, but that she gradually becomes more nervous and Anthony sees and then takes her into his room. Then, when Anthony asks what’s wrong, that’s when she blurts out about wanting to wait? Anthony realising that she’s terrified, and you can still have him falling to his knees and Kate asking him to love her?

I also think if they don’t want to have the “I’m not beautiful” conversation while Anthony is literally mid-thrust, they could add it here as well, just so that in that moment, throughout the entirety of their first time, there’s no doubt that Kate is the one Anthony wants and desires? Obviously they would have to handle that delicately, and that conversation is so sacred (I love it so much), but I’m just thinking that it might make their first time flow better for TV if they have that conversation just before Anthony starts undressing Kate?

Some things to think about in terms of both fandom and the show, but yeah, those are the two scenes that I think need to be changed the most if they’re going to keep iterations of them in the season two.

Yall l’m interrupting Kathony time to let you know that the Bridgerton Poll Survey Results were posted! A couple of yall sent me the links shoutout to @queenkatesharma​ for sending them to me. 

Okay so while transparency is great, protecting people’s data is more important. The OP of the post was kind of reckless and posted the data document with all of the raw data and I just felt very concerned about sharing that here because of the unprotected data so I reached out to with the mods to help secure it. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to save a copy of the doc so I can make my own summary for yall in my essay but its probably for the best. "Does he know about this?" Sophie hummed, the buzz of the tattoo gun, filling the distance between them.

Kate chuckled, the vibrations rattling through her hip, the blue and purple staining her skin, watching line after line appear. "Nope. Just the wrist one."

Sophie quirked her eyebrow up at her friend, "Do I even want to know how you got this without your boyfriend knowing?"

Kate shook her head, a smirk tugging at her lips, "Ahh the sweet little bean's a very sound sleeper after a not so little, romp in the hay. Like a happy little weighted blanket."

Sophie rolled her eyes, the pink of her falling over her shoulders, the dainty little ring in her septum catching the light, "You two are so foul."

Kate hummed, something warm settling in his chest, "He's a cutie. Speaking of cute boys-" Sophie's hands stilled in the middle of wiping excess ink from her skin. "How did your date with Ben go?"

Sophie blushed to the very roots of her hair, her eyes still downcast, voice soft, "He was... he was nice, but... like I don't know if it's going anywhere, we're... I don't know-" -she waved the tattoo gun vaguely in her hand- "-pretty different."

Kate rolled her eyes, "That doesn't mean anything."

"He's in the royal Ballet, and I'm a tattoo artist in Brixton. Their family owns a multimillion pound print media empire." Sophie sighed.

"And I illustrate children's books, I don't get it."

Sophie was silent for a long moment, the gun moving over Kate's skin again. "What's their Mum like?"

Kate's chest ached for the girl she'd known since high school, always making herself so much smaller for everyone else. "Violet Bridgerton is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I've been dating her son for six months, and the other day she introduced me to a woman as Anthony's wife. So if you're worried what his family's going to think: they literally won't care."

Something tugged at the corner of Sophie's lips, "He invited me to watch him dance on Saturday, and like... I said I'd go."

"Yes bitch! This is going to be-"

"We're going out, We're not planning a wedding Kate." Sophie cut her off, finishing her work with a flourish, "We're all done."

Kate stared down at the blue and purple, marking her skin forever, her lower lip caught between her teeth, "Anthony's family think we're planning a wedding."

"Anthony is definitely planning a wedding. And if you don't think he's going to ask you, you're even stupider than I thought."

And Kate couldn't stop her friend's words from settling in her chest, hoping they were true.

"Hey! You're home!" Anthony grinned up at her from the sofa, Newton napping on his chest, comfortable in his home of two weeks.

Kate hummed, leaning over him to brush their lips together, her heart hammering in her chest, still, after six months together, always the same reaction.

Anthony smiled softly up at her, nuzzling his nose against hers, the memory of the way he'd looked at her when he'd said I want you to stay here, with me forever flashing through her mind.

"What are you asking me?"

"Move in with me. You and the little loaf of bread you call a dog. I'll make one of the spare rooms into a studio for you to work in, and-"

She hadn't even let him finish, her lips claiming his roughly, "Newton and I are gonna wreck your entire life."

"Fucking good."

"You're really pretty." Anthony said now, sighing as she settled on the floor next to his head, rolling her eyes.

"You're cute."

Anthony hummed, kissing her forehead. "How did it go?"

She held out her wrist, the multicoloured imprint of Newton's paw on her skin. Anthony's lips tugged upwards,

"Sophie's very talented and Ben is very excited. She's going to watch him this weekend."

It was building in her chest, nerves swirling in her stomach, suddenly unsure of what she'd done. "They'd be sweet together I think."

"You just like the idea of being sisters with Sophie."

Kate's heart stopped, "Sisters, do you have a question you want to ask me, Anthony?"

Anthony's smile was so soft, his eyes shining at her as he shook his head, "Not yet. But it's coming, so get your answer ready."

This was it, she was sure it was.

She stood slowly, her fingers twisting in his hair for a second, tugging at the waistband of her shorts, until it was on display, "I have my answer ready."

Anthony's eyes widened in surprise, sitting up quickly, ignoring Newton's startled snort, his eyes fixating on it for a long moment, fingers hovering just over it, his eyes flicking to hers, voice shaking, "Kate is that-?"

She nodded, her lip caught between her teeth. There, on her right hip, was Anthony's fingerprint, his thumbprint actually, life size, in purple and blue ink AEB scrolled underneath.

Anthony's breath left him in a whoosh, as he darted forward, tugging her against his chest, his lips finding hers, teeth clashing, tongues tangling a little desperately, something needy rising between them, his eyes brimming with an emotion she couldn't quite place burning in his eyes as he pulled back, his forehead pressed against hers, thumb ghosting over her cheekbone.

"I love you so fucking much." His voice rumbled through her chest.

"I don't know if you remember, but that's actually the first place you ever touched me." Her own voice was wobbling, his reaction catching her a little by surprise.

"I remember everything about you." There were tears in his eyes, " I am going to feel just like this forever."

There was no space between them, his arms pinning her in place against him.

"Thank god, It'd make it a bit awkward if you're gonna ask me to marry you if not."

Anthony's lips met hers again before he shot backwards, his hands tugging on hers, forcing her through their house, pushing her against the mattress.

"Shorts and sneakers off, babe."

and really, she didn't even need to think about the answer to his potential future question.

I need to start being productive, today. But first, have the second Kathony meeting from What Might Have Been. Most of the dialogue is taken directly from the show. But, I've added Anthony's thought process.

Anthony walked towards her. “I never got your name. I wondered if we might meet again.” He couldn’t help smiling at her. Though, part of him wondered at her current dress and demeanor. The white ballgown she wore, while certainly lovely — and providing a beautiful contrast to her dark skin — seemed too severe for the free-spirited woman he had raced in the park. As did the sharply pulled back hairstyle. Yes, it was considered proper for ladies to wear their hair up, but most of them wouldn’t pull it back quite so tightly, and would leave a few strands down. Everything about her current appearance felt like a mask. Especially when compared to the way she had looked and acted the morning before. The look she gave him was cold. As if she was angry with him about something. “So you might discern if my wit is acceptable, my manners suitable for your family?” Well, that might explain the anger. “You were eavesdropping?” “It was hardly an effort, seeing as you were proclaiming your many requirements for a wife loud enough for the entire party to hear.” Now, that was hardly fair. Or true. Had she not been standing so close to them, she wouldn’t have heard anything. Though, he had to admit, at least to himself, that that hardly mattered. “You take issue with my requirements?” And here he was, goading her. His love of arguing with this woman was going to be his downfall. He knew that, but he couldn’t seem to stop himself. “I take issue with any man who views women as merely chattels and breeding stock.”

“None of that was meant for-” He wanted to explain. To tell her that he was simply describing her but could hardly tell his friends that he had already found the woman he wanted to marry. Because he had promised her that he wouldn’t tell anybody about meeting her in the park. Until they were formally introduced, he had a part to play. But, she cut him off. “Anthony Bridgerton, yes? When you manage to find this paragon of virtue, whatever makes you think that she will accept your suit? Are the ladies of London truly so easily won by a pleasing smile and absolutely nothing more?” Anthony was stunned. Was she really saying that she would refuse to allow him to court her? Over a stupid comment she overheard him make to some equally stupid men who truly did believe that women were only useful as breeding stock and simply wouldn’t understand Anthony wanting a marriage like his parents’? As a minor balm to his pride, his brain insisted on focusing on the only thing she said that could possibly be taken as a compliment — if you tilted your head the right way, and squinted a bit. “So you find my smile pleasing?”

what do you think of the queen charlotte show

to state the obvious: i think that no one in the bridgerton fandom would have minded this show if it weren't for the shitty treatment of the bridgerton series by shondaland. some may have loved it, some may have passed on it but in either case there would have been no hard feelings.

the problem is that at this point shonda is using a show that's supposed to be about the bridgerton family for her own OG characters, while screwing over the canonical protagonists.

it's one thing to make a spin-off about an OC. it's been done before. as a matter of fact when i first watched s1 (before i read the books and waaay before the disaster of s2) i remember being intrigued by the charlotte/george scenes. but combined with what's become of the main show? where instead of focusing on the bridgerton fam (spouses included obv) and expanding on them half the screen time is about trashy plotlines of the featheringtons and queen charlotte obsessing over some gossip rag writer? where the most beloved couple received #that treatment in s2 and kate was little better than a supporting character in anthony's story? well.

plus the whole social media thing is just the production provoking fans atp. what spin-off doesn't get its own accounts for promo?! why do they call it a bridgerton story when it has nothing to do with the bridgertons and there's not even a bridgerton character in it?

with that out of the way: my honest opinion after seeing the trailers is that it's gonna be a bingeable show. unlike s3, which i honestly believe is gonna be a snoozefest outside the 5 minutes kathony, frannie and benedict get, QC has a very strong female lead in india, the chemistry with the male lead is there and arsema’s lady d and young violet will probably steal the show too. the story looks compelling enough for it to be a big success.

there's the issue of the shitty plotline of king george marrying a black woman and “uniting two societies” but ig we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. at least im glad that from what we've seen so far it seems that black people have been an established part of the aristocracy way before the george/charlotte marriage (charlotte’s brother makes a comment about them coming from a european aristocratic bloodline or something and lady danbury is a lady) so at least it won't be like. king george marrying a woman from a socially ostracized minority and that magically bringing equality to the realm. then again i may be underestimating shondaland’s ability to fuck up and i’ll be eating my words. it's happened before when it comes to bridgerton predictions and will probably happen again.

but entertainment wise it shows that it'll be good.

Hi. First of all, i'm a fan of jimone/kathony. Some jonny fans talk about him as being superior, the best actor, the perfect man. I don't like this at all because as a queer person, I see it in some way as a heteronormative vision (I don't know how to explain this well) and totally contrary to the vibes of him who, like Simone, seems humble, focused on his work. That being said, there is a fan on reddit, kangaroowooden, who is one that annie and others have criticized and rightly so. They are the one who said that Simone went to many events and so on and they talk in a strange way, even about him. I also have a theory that she is one of the jonny fans who sends some anons to Annie. That being said, I think it's a lie that Jonny's fans haven't been criticized or exposed. Maybe we should talk more about it, especially because of racism and misogyny, but a moderator of kanthony's reddit has already done it several times and well I remember that in March, a kathony fan on twitter with more than 3000 followers talked about "jb fans". I think you know who I'm talking about. Sorry, this is long. Thank you anyway.

well anon maybe it’s because tone is hard to read on tumblr in a block of text, but i really hope this ask is not passive aggressive. i do agree with a couple of your points - the rest don’t make a lot of sense to me, i’m sorry to say.

i will begin my response by saying that i do not like to engage or find a conclusive answer to the question/fight on whose stans are better - jonny or simone. i believe it’s a stupid fight and no one is superior here. i said a few days ago that both fandoms, like all fandoms, have bad apples - and everyone should not be defined by that minority. i said that for the simone fandom literally two days ago.

i know of a few jonny fans myself on twt who have been weird, even about him. i either don’t interact with them or have mutually blocked them (after the wig disaster of november 2022).

I don’t think jonny is perfect - nobody is, not him or simone or me or you. i do think he is one of the best actors on that show, amongst the top three for me but maybe not for you and that is fine. that also doesn’t mean he is superior to anyone or is meant as an insult to anyone. i also don’t think he carried the chemistry alone - that was a credit to both jonny and simone and i have said this before - anyone who disagrees is a twat.
