"as you've surely heard, we are opening a new subsidary, and from today on, CHOI DAEHYUN will be your boss." the last word is followed by a short amused chuckle. "DBSD, when founding USGEN, had a clear view of the company and what they want to achieve. and the 8 of you have been carefully picked by all the people present here with this view in mind. in the next couple of months, you'll be moving to the 7th floor, which will be fully dedicated, and only accessible to USGEN staff. don't worry, the rest of the building - except LGC AGENCY's foor - will still be accessible for you." he further explains. "this will be the last meeting that ISEUL and myself will be attending. Creative control will be handled by DBSD members themselves, while HYUNCHEOL, YOUNGJAE and YONGSEOK will be here to support you on the day to day matters until further notice."

once he's done talking, DAEHYUN finally speaks. "the members and i have been reviewing the content you've filmed so far. 'USGEN CHANNEL' will launch on MAY 1. i'll be introducing the company, our goals and plans on that day, as well as the NEWKIDS NEWDREAMS project. the first episodes of the show will actually be dedicated to reviewing your performances, for those who have filmed them. and, for those who havent, it's coming soon enough." his grin makes his words further more omnious for some reason. "our goal is to officially shift the videos to you 8 only on MAY 22, when NEW KIDZ ON THE BLOCK will be released digitally.

NEW KIDZ ON THE BLOCK

the basis of a new group is to introduce those part of it and this is what the first tasks of the boys will be about ! as this is content for a YOUTUBE CHANNEL, the tasks are divided in 'videos' that the boys will have to film:

NEW KIDZ ON THE BLOCK (TAKE 2): DBSD'S DAEHYUN has produced and written the THEME SONG for the youtube channel, titled NEW KIDZ ON THE BLOCK, it has already been recorded with the five first members, now that three more have joined, it will be rerecorded with them. The 8 MEMBERS audio and video performance will be the ones released to the public.

DOOM DUM DOOM: DBSD'S SEOHAN was tasked to compose, write and choreograph an anthem-sounding song that would show the future group's colors. the song titled 'DOOM DU DOOM' is the result. the group will be learning an practicing the song for the next month before they will be evaluated by a panel composed of DAEHYUN, SEOHAN and various coaches. if they should pass this evaluation, they will be filming the music video of the song some time in JUNE, with a digital release around JULY 8. all the lyrics for this trimester can be found HERE

SHOW US YOUR BEST (TRIAL MEMBERS ONLY): each members will record a solo performance* demonstrating what they are best at in terms of skills (singing, dancing, rapping and/or instuments are accepted)

SOLO PRACTICE (CORE MEMBERS ONLY): each member will be tasked to film themselves during their solo practice for about 1 hour. the skills they are practicing are up to them. this is to show the viewers and fans a window into their lives as trainees.

LANGUAGE BOOTCAMP: due to having less than 70 KOREAN LANGUAGE POINTS, KURAMOTO MISAKI and MAE JASPER have to participate in the language bootcamp, while LAI WENJUN will take part in it since he has less than 30 ENGLISH LANGUAGE POINTS. information on these bootcamps will be released later.

*only songs released by legacy artists or released by any artists BEFORE january 2022 are eligible

as written in the article, USGEN aims to be setting trends, and what better way to do so than use YOUTUBE SHORTS and TIKTOK. for fans to know them better, the members will be filming a 'SHALL WE KNOW' short (see JULIE and NATTY filming one HERE). each member will have to pick a LOCATION and OUTFIT that fits their IMAGE and PERSONALITY. if the location is outside of LEGACY, USGEN will book the location for a one hour shoot. another member will be in charge of FILMING the short and GIVING QUESTIONS. none of them will know the questions that will be asked prior to the short being filmed as the answers and actions need to be spontaneous. daehyun has only advice for the boys; go all out without shame !

“For this fall collection, we will be featuring both neutral and warm tones to accentuate the warm feeling of fall” 

“Our goal with this launch is…. The goal of this launch is… God this is so stupid!”

You watched from the hallway as Mingi threw his drafts in the trash, his shoulders tense and his voice hoarse. To help ease his worries, you snuck behind him to wrap your arms around his shoulders and press gentle kisses to the back of his neck 

“Hey, you’re doing great”

“Baby, I’m not. Look at me, I’m a mess” Mingi stood up, visible bags under his eyes growing darker and his disheveled hair sticking up in all directions 

A small tear fell from his face as he slowly lowered his head to rest in between your shoulder and neck, slowly taking in your scent. 

“I don’t know if I can do this”

“How?”

Mingi lifted his head from your shoulders and looked down intently at your eyes, his eyes red from the tears that once fell from them

A few hours later and 3 cups of coffee, a moving and encouraging speech had been written. 

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen, 

Thank you for coming to the official fall launch of Minkiway. As many of you may know, Minkiway was originally the name of a brief Youtube series I had produced along with my company while I was active with Ateez. The name Minki is a little nickname I was given, by our fans we called Atiny, it was quite adorable. That aside, before I unveil the pieces I curated for this fall collection, I want to share why I wanted to create my own clothing line”

“I created this clothing line to well, indulge on my love for fashion and dressing up. Yusrarel, Minky Momo Episode 5

I posted recently about the fifth episode of Magical Princess Minky Momo (魔法のプリンセス ミンキー モモ), which involves a made-up country somewhere in the Mediterranean region. The first comment I received on that post was a snide remark that it didn't appear to be an imaginary country but rather simply Spain. At first I felt defensive, but the commenter was right that there were flamenco dancers and, the more I thought about it, the more I felt like I should rewatch the episode and pay a little closer attention so I could parse all of the details, particularly because this is exactly the kind of thing I'm interested in.

The subtitles on the version of this show I'm watching render the country's name as Yusrarel. I don't know for sure but I assume that would be ユスラレル, which could also be transliterated into the Roman alphabet as Yusurareru. This is somewhat close to the way Israel is transliterated into Japanese -- Isuraeru (イスラエル).

The reason the prince of Yusrarel has come to Japan is to deliver a rare three-humped camel to a local zoo. This is, of course, the tie-in to the show's animal and veterinary theme.

In addition to the camel, another key cultural element that makes this country seem like it could be in the Middle East-North Africa region is the style of headdress they wear. We see two turbans -- a white/cream one and a black/navy one. Neither are exactly like real world headdresses from any region but they are certainly reminsicent.

One thing that I think is worth mentioning here is that the prince is depicted as having curly red hair and freckles. Of course, it's fraught to over interpret racial phenotypes in Showa era anime, and it is also noteworthy that these traits are more widespread throughout the Mediterranean region than we might guess based on stereotypes. For example, I have met people in Tunisia with red hair which might not have been what I would have assumed before I had been there.

Also, his name is Prince Tam Tam (タムタム王子), which I don't think really gives any clues to the culture they're constructing.

One thing that is kind of neither here nor there in terms of interpreting this imaginary country but that I thought was still very fun was the appearance of this Christian omamori (御守) for safe travels. It's funny to see something so Shinto in a Christian fom.

So my commenter was right that part of this episode takes place in Madrid, Spain. This was the line I missed the first time I watched this that actually makes a big difference in trying to understand the geography of this episode.

The last scene does take place in the palace in Yusrarel, which looks very European to me. It looks like Versailles or something.

So, while some of the episode takes place in Japan and some does take place in Spain, Yusrarel is definitely imaginary and combines elements of several existing cultures, adding in a dash of the fantastic. It reminds me a bit of the way Showa majokko series treat Africa, which I also noted recently here and here.

All of this also reminds me of the contemporary series, Patalliro! (パタリロ!), which I am primarily interested in because of its groundbreaking queer content. But it also takes place in a fantastical European country called Malynera. It ran against Minky Momo on Thursday nights on a different channel.

"the first four lines speak for themselves. during rehearsals, if you struggle with any of these skills, you may turn to anybody within these lines for help. the WING LINE are our versatile members that will switch roles (vocalis or rapper) depending on the need. our current CENTERS are NOEUL (rap focus) and MISAKI (vocal focus). when it comes to stage performances, whatever they say goes. if YICHEN or WENJUN have anything to say about your singing or MINKI about your dancing, same. this is a team and you need to be able to work as such. your positions are supposed to be an ecosystem where everybody can work together, lean on each other, and learn from one another. which brings me to the next topic: the LEADER. i've been in the industry for a while now and seen the concept of 'leader' applied in various ways. some are just here to gather the herd from a place to another, while others take on a role of teacher and others even serve as promoter of the group. after giving it some thought, we decided that we want the LEADER to serve as pillar, glue and number one believer of the group. the person who will take on that role needs to be ready to give up on personal ambitions for the sake of the group. on stage, the centers might be at the front, but you'll be at the back making sure that everything is cohesive, that everybody has what they need to focus on their job. you'll be in charge of resolving personal issues on the day to day. your managers will be in charge of taking you places, of making sure that the fridge is full, of insuring that schedules are respected, ect., but they cannot be with you constantly nor are they in your shoes. and unless things escalate to a certain level, they are also not in charge of making sure that everybody is getting along right or on the same page. as a leader, this will be your boat to stir. it goes without saying that no MAIN or CENTER role is compatible with this position. also if you have ambitions of becoming an ACTOR-IDOL, the time required by this particular line of work also makes it incompatible with the role as we want it to be fulfilled. NOEUL, HANEUL, JASPER; the three of you showed interest in leading the group. if you are still interested after this, i'll be meeting with you individually."

BACK DOWN: DBSD'S SEOHAN once again composed, wrote and choreograph an anthem-sounding song that would show the future group's colors. the song titled 'BACK DOWN' is the result. the group will be learning an practicing the song for the next month before they will be evaluated by a panel composed of DAEHYUN, SEOHAN and various coaches. if they should pass this evaluation, they will be filming the music video of the song some time in AUGUST, with a digital release around AUGUST 28.

GIRLS, LOVE BOYS, LOVE GIRLS: DBSD'S DAEHYUN and HYUNBIN teamed up to do the same for the b-side release of 'BACK DOWN'. with a more laid back sound, closer to new kidz on the block, 'GIRLS, LOVE BOYS, LOVE GIRLS' is the result. same as with their other songs, the group will be learning an practicing the song for the next two weeks before they will be evaluated by a panel composed of DAEHYUN, HYUNBIN and various coaches. if they should pass this evaluation, they will be filming the music video of the song some time in AUGUST, with a digital release around AUGUST 28.

RISING: for LGC FAMILY CONCERT's NKND's members will be performing TWO special stages with NOVA, with one of those being the boys performing future dreams' 6 song 'RISING' with the girls as back dancers. all the lyrics for this trimester can be found HERE.

GUERILLA CONCERTS: starting  AUGUST 9, NKND will be performing GUERILLA CONCERTS, in 4 different cities in KOREA. the city and location will only be revealed the SAME morning.

for the boys to get further stage experience as a group, the boys will be performing FOUR guerilla concerts during which they will perform their two currently released songs as well as 'GIRLS, LOVE BOYS, LOVE GIRLS' that will be unreleased at that time. for each location, there will also be a SOLO performance done by the 'main' members of their respective lines and a DUO performance with this as the final set list:

*as this is tied to their 'line', they are only expected to perform the skill of it, i.e: yichen doesn't need to dance, only sing

as written in the article, USGEN aims to be setting trends, and what better way to do so than use YOUTUBE SHORTS and TIKTOK. although no requirements will be tied to the shorts this trimester, here are the themes of the shorts:

NOW - AUGUST 9: 'DOOM DU DOOM' challenge. each member may find one LEGACY IDOL and one LEGACY AGENCY TALENT to film the challenge with.

AUGUST 7 - AUGUST 30: guerilla concert promotion original content by the boys with the goal to hype the next performance wherever it should take place

AUGUST 28 - SEPTEMBER 15: 'BACK DOWN' and 'GIRLS, LOVE BOYS, LOVE GIRLS' challenge. each member may find one LEGACY IDOL and one LEGACY AGENCY TALENT to film the challenge with.

SEPTEMBER 16 to ?: 2024 LGC FAMCON content

REQUIREMENTS

NEW SONGS PRACTICE: write a 300+ words solo about your muse rehearsing with a coach for any of the three new songs with emphasis on something they struggled withfor +5 SKILL POINTS, +5 NOTORIETY !

PERFORMANCES: write a 200+ words solo or headcanon about which song they picked for their guerilla performance(s) and why they made that choice for +3 SKILL POINTS, +2 NOTORIETY ! ** those performing duos may use the same post/do not need to write a different post for each members. you may pick any legacy artist songs or any song released before JANUARY 2022.

MEETING DAEHYUN (only if interested in becoming the leader): write a 300+ words solo about your meeting with daehyun for the leader role. during this meeting daehyun will want to know: how do you plan on helping team building, what kind of image you want the group to project on camera, to become more unified and a proper group what do you think could be done. Fulfilling this will reward you +5 SKILL POINTS !

BONUS:  write a 6 (six) replies (minimum 8 lines) thead with another NKND member during the trimester for +6 SKILL POINTS and +2 NOTORIETY ! (any thread done in Q3 2024 are eligible, including threads for other events)

He does not know Hana's story, yet he has to believe that her penchant for violence has to come from circumstances that had left a trail of blood. His own attempt at a joke, nodding at her request, grabbing his cocktail shaker and mixing together a mixture of vodka, triple sec, and a splash of cola before sliding it her way in a garnished glass.

she  ignores  the  slightest  shift  in  his  expression  from  the  mention  of  her  pending  departure.  she  is  certain  that  he’d  rather  such  matters  go  unnoticed  by  her,  too.  in  instances  like  this,  it’s  suddenly  a  curse  that  people  like  them  are  trained  to  have  an  observant  eye.  “i  wouldn’t  dare.  what  kind  of  a  fool  would  i  be  to  make  an  enemy  out  of  you?”  hana  is  more  than  aware  that  wronging  the  likes  of  him  would  get  her  straight  into  a  coffin  and  while  she  is  well  acquainted  with  death,  she  much  prefers  being  the  one  who  brings  it  upon  others  rather  than  experiencing  it  herself  at  such  a  young  age.  while  she  cannot  name  many  reasons  that  make  living  a  heaven  (  it  isn’t  ),  she  is  too  stubborn  to  let  herself  die.  “and  if  i  do  find  a  list  of  those  men,  why  would  i  bother  to  share  with  you?”  she  smiles.  “unless  you’re  proposing  to  be  my  business  partner  in  this  lucrative  trade,  but  i  don’t  suppose  you’ll  take  up  any  of  the  seduction  that’s  required  for  it  to  work.  so  what  use  would  i  get  out  of  involving  you  in  the  deal,  exactly?”  she’s  only  messing  around,  which  is  strange  if  she  lets  herself  think  about  the  kind  of  lighthearted  banter  they  allow  to  happen  in  each  other’s  presence  too  much.  she  doesn’t  protest  when  he  practically  makes  her  lean  on  him  and  while  she  knows  that  it’s  not  something  that  she  should  get  used  to,  it  is  treacherously  comforting  to  know  that  she  can.  comforting.  but  so,  so  treacherous.  she  cannot  help  the  small  laugh  that  stumbles  out  from  his  suggestion  and  the  pain  from  her  abdomen  is  swiftly  ignored.  “that’s  terrible  medical  advice.”  but  one  that  she  is  evidently  taking  as  she  sits  on  the  bar  stool,  before  she  props  her  chin  with  her  elbow  on  the  marble  counter.  “long  island."  it'd  be  her  usual  go-to.  "just  vodka  would  do.”  she’s  never  picky  with  alcohol.  as  with  most  things,  she’s  good  with  whatever  that  gets  the  job  done.
