The late morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, warming the bedroom and casting soft golden streaks on the walls. The gentle hum of the city outside was barely audible over the rhythmic sound of Lando’s breathing beside you. His arm was slung lazily over your waist, his warmth seeping into your skin like a comforting blanket.

You blinked sleepily, turning your head to look at him. His face was still soft with sleep, his hair a wild mess of curls that begged to be smoothed down. He looked so peaceful like this, so completely at ease, and it made your heart ache in the best way.

“Caught you staring,” he mumbled, his voice raspy as his lips curled into a sleepy grin.

“I wasn’t staring,” you lied, your cheeks heating up.

“Sure,” he teased, his eyes still closed. “You’ve been staring at me every morning for the past five years. It’s okay, I’m used to it.”

You rolled your eyes, but your smile gave you away. “Good morning, Lando.”

“Morning,” he said, finally opening his eyes. They were warm and bright, like pools of melted chocolate, and they crinkled at the corners as he smiled at you. “Guess what day it is?”

You blinked, still half-asleep. “Uh… Saturday?”

“Baby shopping day,” he announced, his grin widening.

You couldn’t help but laugh at his enthusiasm. “You’re more excited about this than I am.”

“Of course I am!” he said, propping himself up on one elbow. “We’re picking out stuff for our baby. This is a big deal.”

It was a big deal. After months of trying—months of hope and heartbreak—you were finally here. Fourteen weeks pregnant, your little miracle growing inside you. It still didn’t feel real sometimes, like you were dreaming and could wake up at any moment.

“I still can’t believe this is happening,” you said softly, your hand resting on your small but growing bump.

“It’s happening,” Lando said, covering your hand with his. His eyes softened as he looked at you, his thumb brushing gently over your knuckles. “And I can’t wait to spoil both of you today.”

The car ride into the city was filled with laughter and teasing. Lando, as usual, couldn’t resist cracking jokes, trying to lighten the nerves you hadn’t even realized you were feeling.

“Okay, but hear me out,” he said, glancing at you with a mischievous grin. “What if we name the baby after a car? Like… Ferrari Norris. Or McLaren Norris. That’s got a nice ring to it, right?”

You rolled your eyes, laughing. “Absolutely not. Our child is not going to be named after a car brand.”

“Fine,” he said, pretending to pout. “But if they grow up to be a racer, I’m taking full credit for the inspiration.”

The boutique Lando had chosen was tucked away in a quieter part of the city, its window displays filled with pastel-colored baby clothes and wooden toys. The moment you stepped inside, you were greeted by the soft scent of lavender and the faint sound of a lullaby playing over the speakers.

Lando’s eyes lit up as he took in the rows of tiny clothes and baby accessories. “This is it,” he said, grabbing your hand. “This is where we find all the cool stuff.”

You spent the next hour wandering the store, debating over cribs and strollers, laughing as Lando tried to convince you that the baby absolutely needed a mini Formula 1 onesie.

“Come on,” he said, holding it up with a grin. “How cute would they look in this?”

“They’d look adorable,” you admitted, “but they’ll probably outgrow it in a month.”

“Worth it,” he said, tossing it into the shopping basket.

You couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. Seeing him like this—so excited, so ready to dive headfirst into parenthood—made your heart swell with love.

By the time you left the store, the sun had climbed higher in the sky, and the streets were bustling with activity. Lando carried the shopping bags in one hand, his other arm wrapped protectively around your shoulders.

You didn’t notice the paparazzi at first.

It started with a few flashes, the sudden brightness making you blink. Then came the voices—shouting questions and calling Lando’s name.

“Lando! Over here!” “How’s the season going?” “Is it true you’re expecting?”

The crowd seemed to grow out of nowhere, fans and photographers swarming around you. The noise was overwhelming, a cacophony of voices and camera clicks that made your head spin.

“Lando,” you said softly, gripping his arm.

He turned to you immediately, his eyes scanning your face. “Hey, are you okay?”

You tried to nod, but the dizziness was already setting in. The flashes, the shouting, the crush of bodies—it was too much.

“I don’t feel…” Your voice trailed off as your vision blurred.

Lando didn’t hesitate. Dropping the shopping bags, he wrapped his arm around your waist, holding you steady. “Alright, that’s enough!” he snapped, his voice sharp and commanding. “Back off! She’s pregnant. Give her some space!”

The crowd faltered, the realization rippling through them. But Lando didn’t wait for them to comply. He guided you away from the chaos, his body shielding yours as he led you down a quieter side street.

“Breathe, love,” he said softly, stopping to face you. His hands cupped your cheeks, his thumbs brushing away the tears that had started to fall. “In and out. I’ve got you.”

You nodded, focusing on his voice, his touch. The dizziness slowly faded, replaced by the steady rhythm of his heartbeat under your palm.

“I’m sorry,” you whispered, guilt creeping in. “I ruined our day.”

“Don’t you dare apologize,” Lando said, his tone gentle but firm. “You and the baby come first. Always.”

You managed a weak smile. “Even over baby sneakers?”

“Even over baby sneakers,” he said, grinning. “But just barely.”

Back at home, the chaos of the day felt like a distant memory. Lando had insisted on ordering takeout, claiming that you deserved to be spoiled after the ordeal.

As you sat on the couch, surrounded by the shopping bags you’d managed to bring home, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace. Lando was in the kitchen, humming softly as he poured you a glass of water.

“Here you go,” he said, handing it to you before sitting down beside you. His hand immediately found its way to your stomach, resting there gently.

“You okay?” he asked, his voice soft.

“I’m okay,” you said, covering his hand with yours. “Thanks to you.”

He smiled, leaning in to press a kiss to your temple. “I can’t wait to meet them,” he said quietly, his voice filled with wonder.

“Me too,” you whispered, leaning into him.

For a while, the two of you sat in comfortable silence, the only sounds the faint hum of the city outside and the occasional rustle of the shopping bags.

“You know,” Lando said after a moment, “I meant what I said earlier. You and the baby come first. Always.”

You turned to look at him, your heart swelling with love. “I know,” you said. “And I love you for it.”

“I love you too,” he said, his eyes shining with emotion. “More than anything.”

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the room in a warm, golden glow, you realized that no matter what challenges lay ahead, you and Lando would face them together.

And that was all that mattered.

Lately, over the past month and a half, your best friend has been blowing you off. You know Chan isn’t normally like that, and being in love with him didn’t help the fact either. You tried asking his friends about it, but they wouldn’t tell you anything. The only thing they’d say is, “It’s not my secret to tell.” You decide to distance yourself from him, even though he’s already kind of doing that himself. After a month of not seeing or talking to Chan, he randomly shows up at your apartment one night. You try to get him to go home, telling him that you didn’t want to see him, but he wasn’t having any of it. He dragged you out of your apartment, reassuring you that he’ll explain why he kept blowing you off. And that’s how you end up in the passenger seat of Chan’s car, participating in a street race.

Hello! I'm just curious, what do you think would happen to Jason if Bruce had never met him? In Bruce's mind, if I'm not wrong, Jason would be a racer, and in Flashpoint, we have Father Todd (and omg, I'm obviously very normal about Father Todd's design), but in both cases no one in the Clan of Bats is adopted — what do you think would happen to Jason if Jason wasn't adopted?

(I just love what if—, but I have yet to see a what if (character) wasn't adopted focused only in one character, because normally is Dick that isn't adapted and that somehow makes Bruce unable to meet all of the rest of his kids, so in the end is a what if no one was adopted, so I just wanted to know your opinion)

I had to think about this one for a while because my brain kept trying to drift from not adopted to adopted late. Baby Jay was a scrappy little dude, determined to get by on his own without help. I don’t buy the ‘he’d be dead without Bruce’s involvement’ idea that often floats around the fandom. My vision of him if he was never adopted by Bruce has him still living in Crime Alley.

He got his GED and he secretly dreams of college, but life keeps getting in the way and ultimately his community matters more to him.

He’s the head mechanic at that one auto shop that everyone knows spends its nights and weekends as a chop shop specializing in stripping cars boosted from the Diamond District and Old Gotham, but it’s also the only place to take your car if you actually want to keep it running without getting ripped off. If you’re a single parent and you come in on a slow day, you’re almost guaranteed to get your oil changed or engine tuned up for free. The room in the back has a pull out couch and a mini-fridge — most nights it hosts someone fleeing a domestic abuse situation.

He volunteers at the library and helps with their after-school reading program.

Every dealer and addict in the alley knows, so help you god, if Jason catches you in action near school grounds or with kids, you’re in for a world of hurt. But he’s always got Narcan in his pocket and he’ll hook you up with the needle exchange program at the community center if you ask.

Catwoman keeps on eye on him because he feeds the feral colony living in the abandoned factory on 7th and he helps animal control navigate gang lines in order to set traps for their spay/neuter release program.

He’s on Gordon’s radar for a string of cases involving sex workers that were abducted and assaulted. A bunch of known pimps and johns showed up in ICU in body casts afterwards, but GCPD can’t pin the attacks on him conclusively.

And he did eventually steal the tires off the Batmobile, plus more than a few pieces of tech. Batman made the mistake of parking in the Alley one too many times in conjunction with instances of excessive force against men and woman who fell into henching just trying to get by for their families. Bruce learns his lesson … eventually.

There’s another scenario that lives in my head where he becomes a vigilante/anti-hero on his own, but I might actually write that one as a fic someday so … 🤐

Growing up in East LA, Valeria Sofía Ortiz hasn’t always had it easy.

With her mother leaving her at a young age, Valeria and her father had to fend for themselves early on. Her father, Alvaro Hernández Ortiz, only wanted the best life he could afford for his little angel, so he said goodbye to the gang life and opened up a mechanics shop.

Valeria developed an interest in the art of cars while helping out in her father’s shop and quickly found herself drawn to everything surrounding it. Noticing his daughter’s curiosity, Alvaro decided  to bring her out on the karting track for fun. However, he was surprised to find Valeria driving around the track in top speed and condition.

After that, he gave it his all to ensure his daughter’s return and started scavenging the scrap yards for kart parts while Valeria went around doing mini jobs, like lawn-mowing, to earn extra money to afford karting.

Facing a lot of issues as she climbed up the karting ladder, Valeria never backed down from a fight and oftentimes got into trouble because of it. But that didn’t stop her from dominating the track, gaining lots of attention from the media and the motorsport.

That’s when Toto Wolff noticed the girl, travelling to LA to check out the young racer and realising what potential she held. Becoming part of the Mercedes Junior Team, more and more opportunities opened up for Valeria as she entered the Formula world.

As she drove her way through Formula 3 and 2, she eventually got offered a seat at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team alongside 7x world champion, Lewis Hamilton.

"peach," savannah spoke. "not sure if the accent gives it away, but i grew up in the middle of fuckin' nowhere in the south...pretty rural part of georgia," she explains. "when i first started workin' with the bois, my accent was the first thing that stuck out with the rest of the crew. so peach, like georgia peach. but, also like princess peach from super mario bro's and mario kart. i can see the resemblance, y'know....blonde hair and bangs. rosalina is my new favorite character to play though. i don't mind the nickname though, i've been called way worse."

you're often seen around body - what does a typical visit look like for you?

“body's? considering that i work there, most of the time i’m there because it’s for a shift of mine,” she admitted with a giggle. “even when i'm not working, i like to stop by there once or twice a week. i've been working there for a few years now so i'm close with a lot of the girls. i gotta make sure no assholes are giving them problems."

when  did  your  first  realize  you  had  a  passion  for  cars  /  racing?

"well, i kinda grew up around cars. i have fond memories of helping my grandpa fix up some of his old pickup trucks that he loved to restore as a hobby of his. we did together as a way to bond and get closer. i also had a job back home at a shop, " savannah explains some of her past living with her grandparents. "but i think my passion really started after i've seen my first few official races with the cars i've worked on. it was hard work but it felt so satisfying to see all that hard work pay off for a win."

savannah grew up and spent the bulk of her childhood/teenage years in georgia.

the grady family grew up on a small family farm, with your typical farm animals and crops. her mother was part of a very strict and religious upbringing. this meant going to church multiple times a week, praying before every meal, volunteering in the local community, and not falling victim to anything secular. on paper, they seemed like the perfect 'white picket fence' family in their rural town.

unfortunately, savannah's mother got involved with a guy who was quite the opposite of her and a bad influence towards her. young and dumb and in love, she'd become pregnant at seventeen, her parents not approving of the situation and strongly pushing their daughter towards putting her child up for adoption. their reasoning? they wanted their daughter to have a bright and successful future and raising a baby too? that would simply be too much in their eyes.

determined to prove them wrong, her mom would be stubborn as a mule and opt out of signing off on any adoption papers. an explosive fight would result due to this, causing many nasty words to be thrown towards all family members and her mother packing up her belongings and getting the hell out. done with the toxicity of the grady family dynamic, she would rather struggle her way through motherhood than be forced to be around her parents any longer.

moving a few hours away from fort valley, the young couple would try their absolute hardest to raise little savannah. the stresses of being broke and having no other support would lead to their relationship crashing and burning by the time savannah was four.

that is when savannah would begin living with just her mother. things for the two of them would only grow more difficult, but sav's mom would vow that she wouldn’t leave her side. 

 it was not out of the ordinary for them to frequently be evicted from whatever apartment or duplex they were living at, being forced to flee for temporary housing. savannah had many different “definitions” of home. this often would vary from a friend’s place, homeless shelter, or whatever beater card they had. in spite of their struggles, she never fully resented her parents, knowing that they always were trying to provide for her the best they could.

savannah was seven years old when her mother would lose custody of her. it was shortly after her birthday, a memory that would forever be ingrained in her mind. savannah and her mom had been living in a motel room for the past few months. It had been paradise in comparison to the shelter that they had been staying at. they had lucked out, her mom getting a job as a housekeeper there, the owner learning about their situation and taking pity on them. he'd agree to offer them discounted rent if she’d promise to not be disruptive. It seemed like a perfect opportunity for them to get back on their feet and try to get a little more ahead. 

in order to make some extra income, savannah's mom had gotten a second job a few nights a week as a waitress at an overnight diner. through her work, she’d start to become involved with a regular. he was a bit of a seedy individual, someone that would ultimately be a very negative influence on her. 

one night, her mother invited her boyfriend over to their motel to spend the night, savannah being watched by someone a few rooms down. she would get extremely under the influence, inviting a few other "friends" of theirs, resulting in their motel room getting destroyed and causing a hell of a scene. the police were called and her mom was arrested. the courts would deem her unfit to continue raising little savannah, full custody being placed with her grandparents.

savannah and her grandparent's relationship was rather rough from the get-go. she was angry and confused with her new living situation, not wanting to live with someone she’d never met before. she was desperately missing her mom, not quite at an age where she could understand why she’d been arrested. so , it wasn’t much of a shock when savannah gave them hell from the start.

savannah always struggled with breaking out her shell and making friends, mostly due to moving around so much. her grandparents tried their best with introducing her to many groups within their community (their church, girl scouts, 4-h club, etc)....anything to try to help savannah blossom and try to ease the transition to her new living situation. she would manage to make a few friends, people would most likely took some pity on her. but, she would found more comfort with her own company. her biggest comfort? music. it all started when she was nine and hearing rumors by fleetwood mac on her classmate's cd player. after hearing gold dust woman, savannah commented on the song and saying she enjoyed it. her classmate let her borrow a few of her other cd's and sav felt like she was discovering gold. there was no turning back, she wanted to learn more, discover more music. this started her journey of discovering more artists/bands, the first taste of rebellion. at the same time, she felt like she was living a double life since this wasn't music they played at church?

as savannah transitioned into her pre-teen years, her rebellion and bad habits only grew. she would find her confidence and comfort with hanging out with the small crowd of misfits of peach county high. the misfits being the goths/punk/burnout kids aka the the people that didn't fall into any other so called 'cliques'.

secular music was not the only thing she was doing behind her grandparent's back. she was also sneaking cigarettes, weed, booze, and skimpy clothing to wear on her late night adventures. hiding them all in a loose floor board of her bedroom, there was no going back.

at fourteen and fifteen years old she was spending late nights sneaking off and causing chaos. chain smoking cigarettes, shop lifting, finishing off full bottles of vodka, and god knows what else. savannah knew deep down that none of these things were good to do, but she was so desperate for a place to fit in and be accepted that she was heavily influenced to do these things. half the time her grandparents didn’t know where was and it made them worried sick.

her reckless behavior would only fuel their negative relationship but she didn't care. this was the root cause for the standard occurrence of them having heated verbal arguments, causing savannah to be temporarily kicked out and being forced to couch surf with her friend group. her grandparents wanted better for savannah, trying to hold her accountable and not have a future like her mom.

when she was seventeen, she got into a nasty fight with another girl at a club while she was extremely drunk and under the influence. the fight resulted in the girl being hospitalized with a serious blow to her head. sav was sent to juvie for a year and a half due to the fight and other charges that were caught up on her.

flash forward 1.5 years, she is released from juvie and put on probation. with nowhere else to go, she had no choice but to move back in with grandparents. even though they are not proud of her past actions, they let her move back in but not without their own rules for her to obey.

she picks up a job at the local mechanic shop in town at the front desk. it's nothing fancy but it is something to keep her busy and get cash in her pocket. she had managed to get her GED while locked up, so college was an option but something that wasn't on her radar.

by the time she is twenty one, she has managed to save up enough money to feel like she can be on her own. only having only known georgia, savannah craves somewhere else she can start fresh and have more 'wordly' experiences. so, she finds herself moving down to miami without much of a plan but she'll figure it out.

found a shitty but cheap apartment not far from her bartending job at body's....eventually moving up to becoming a dancer there after being there for around a year.

she started out with the nariza bois as a mechanic, her knowledge of cars from her previous mechanic job and helping fix cars with her grandpa making it a natural fit. she felt comfortable in that position.

most recently transitioned to becoming a racer and though she had her own self doubts if the choice was right, the pure adrenaline and confidence boost it has provided her is priceless. every time she goes out on a race, it brings her back to her teenage years, her thirst for excitement and rebellion never quite leaving her.

I’ve long had a longing to have a Mac Mini as build server in my technics room. After Apple finally updated it to (now) fashionable space grey, it was a must purchase for my company.

I’ve had a hankering to do this very thing. I can see setting up the server much in the way we see here and trigger builds via GitHub Actions to start the process. Heck, I could use Xcode’s built in support for automating builds and kick it off right from within Xcode on my laptop. Yeah, Xcode has a decent enough build system to make it useful. Makes me wonder how much of it Apple is using for Xcode Cloud or is 100% of that custom code?

If you work with sensitive data, and want to be 100% sure that there is no trace of the old data after it has been updated or deleted — SQLite has you covered. The secure_delete pragma (off by default) causes SQLite to overwrite deleted content with zeros.

It’s only a matter of time before Apple does it. When it happens all doubt around Apple creating a convertible will disappear and folks will think it’s the greatest thing ever.

Formula One: Built to Win is a 1990 racing video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System developed by Winky Soft and published by SETA Corporation.

It was one of the first racing games to feature a career mode, multiple vehicles and an opportunity for the player to increase the performance of their in-game car through car tuning, which were unique elements for a racer of the NES era and a genre only truly revisited during the fifth generation of game consoles where games such as Gran Turismo became popular.

Races start out as single-lap events but become double-lap events as the player starts racing against more experienced competition in places like Las Vegas, Nevada and Hawaii. With gameplay similar to Rad Racer and Pole Position, the driver races towards the back of the screen.

The names of the opponents are chosen partially at random; they can also vary because of the ranking level of the course and the type of vehicle used. Like in Rad Racer, the player can supercharge an automobile to go up to 255 miles per hour or 410 kilometres per hour.

Once the player enters a user name, the player has to start out driving a Mini Cooper without an international racing license. From there, the player must earn the rankings needed to get better performing vehicles and automobile parts. These cars consist of the Vector W2, the Ferrari F40 and finally a Formula-1 race car; most of the game is driven with these vehicles.

Drivers must also be prepared to negotiate their way through both civilian traffic (green) and other racers (blue), both of which resemble whatever car that the player is driving at that time; for example, the Mini Cooper-based opponents appear to be 1990 Volkswagen Beetles.

Managing a racing career

The player starts in New York and must work towards the West Coast. All of tracks that make up the Formula One portion of the game are actual Formula One tracks from around the world. Elements from the 1990 and 1991 Formula One seasons have been used for this video game.

Because this game is based on the career of a race car driver who is trying to go from "Rags to Riches," the beginning of the game provides a slow and conservative period. Designing an unbeatable car from the parts that they purchased in parts shops helps improve the handling, acceleration, braking, and maximum speed of their vehicle. The player must earn money in order to keep racing; this is done by either winning races or finishing in podium position. After winning the race, the money must be invested in faster and/or more efficient parts to improve the performance of the vehicle. Having a more efficient racing vehicle will eventually result in winning more difficult races where the winner's prize is higher than in the easier races. Eventually, winning certain races will result in acquiring an international racing license. Parts in the game vary in cost and tires can only be used a limited number of times before they have to be purchased again. Tires that have the worst handling can be used an unlimited number of times. These tires are the only automobile parts that are free and the player automatically starts out with these at the beginning of the game's "career mode."

Other modes

In addition to the career (normal) mode of the game, there is also a "free mode" of the game that allows unlimited use of all four vehicles on their respective tracks. These races are done without the distraction of other vehicles.

All races in "free mode" are single-lap only. There is still a limited amount of nitro like in the "normal mode" of the game. However, all races done under "free mode" always start with the nitro gauge filled up. New time records made in the "free mode" are saved into the game's battery along with the driver's name until they are broken by another player. Once the player reaches the Formula One level, he or she must race against drivers whose names sound similar to the actual drivers of the 1990 and 1991 Formula One seasons. For example, Satoru Nakajima is known in the game as S.Nakazma.

The mini stock cars of Radio Control Racers Edmonton are swerving down the track at their new storefront in the Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre.

The club is one of the unconventional tenants setting up shop in the shopping center, which alternative mall foot traffic numbers Control Edmonton took over a storefront in the building last month. President Randy Van said the first few weeks have been a massive success for both club and the mall.

"It's been great for the community," he said. "Everybody that lives close to the mall is coming just to watch races the Edmonton Train Collectors Association, a model train club, Africart, a locally-owned African clothing and art store, and Priya Fashions, a clothing store specializing in Indian and Islamic bridal fashion.

The shopping center's general manager Tammy Abbott said the pandemic forced the mall, which opened in 1968, to change the business.

"We've had to look out of the box and bring new concepts to the plate," she said. "Consumer patterns have changed, so we have to change."

According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadians shopping online rose from 73% in 2018 to 82% in 2020 e-commerce than in-person sales, according to the most recent data.

Changing spending patterns are causing flagship stores to fail at malls across Edmonton Co-op grocery store in the Mill Woods Town Centre closed this January. In the same month, The Toys "R" Us store in the West Edmonton Mall announced it would close, as did the Sport Chek in the City Centre Mall location.

As well as boutique stores and local clubs, Bonnie Doon is boosting business through the experience attractions center shoppers admired art displays throughout the building, listened to live music, and talked to local artists about their work.

The Night of Artists organization also runs a full-time art gallery in the space founder believes the mall's unique approach is restoring connections between neighbors, which are whittling away.

"It slows people down, and I think we need more [opportunities] where people stop and smell the roses and stop and look at the art," he said.

The Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre also operates an outdoor ice rink to attract families during winter months and a community vegetable garden in a storefront.

"[The garden] started during COVID as a team building exercise for our office staff, and we quickly realized that it takes many hands to grow vegetables," said Abbott.

"Volunteers come to take care of the plants, harvest them, and plant more fresh produce at Edmonton's The Mustard Seed and Youth Empowerment and Support Services.

Roxx, a store that sells semi-precious stones, fossils, and tiny carved penguins, fairies, and dragons, claims the new strategies are boosting business.

"Us personally have had a major influx of more traffic," said Roxx part-owner Jacqueline Bursey definitely may not be having as much success as us."

Mall organizers expect the Valley Line LRT, featuring a stop at the shopping center, will help retail businesses to build on recent momentum.

The Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre has invested 2 million in a transit plaza linking the mall, and the LRT station Valley Line is two years behind schedule and has not yet announced an opening date for the line.

Top Five Harley-Davidson Sportsters, Part One: Ironheads

Harley-Davidson has just rebooted one of the world’s longest-running model lines, with the launch of the new Sportster S. But remarkably, it’s only the third major engine update in the Sportster’s 60-plus years on this earth.

Before the new Revolution Max-powered Sportster S came, we had the Evolution motor that debuted in 1986. And before that, the iconic Ironhead. But throughout each era, the Sportster has always been a mainstay of the custom scene.

To celebrate, we’ve rounded up our ten favorite Sportster builds, divided by their motors. This week, we’re featuring five top-shelf Ironheads from some of the world’s best custom builders—including illustrious names like Max Hazan [above] and Hideya Togashi [below].

Hide Motorcycle There’s a long history of Japan’s love for Americana, and the humble Sportster is no exception. Case in point: this Ironhead Sportster by Hideya Togashi of Hide Motorcycle (that’s ‘Hee-day’). It was one of the stars of 2018’s Mooneyes show—a show that Togashi-san is a regular fixture at.

The bike’s built around an original but refurbished 1966 XLCH motor, complete with a Linkert DC-7 carb. But the rest of it is mostly is custom, and it was built without any specific style or theme in mind. “As always, I cherish the balance, and maximize the beauty,” says Hideya.

The motor sits in a scratch-built nickel-plated hardtail frame, with the OEM frame number plate grafted on. Hideya kept the original steering head, triples and forks, but added custom sleeves. The Harley rolls on 21F/18R wheels with drum brakes.

Hideya fabricated the aluminum headlight nacelle and fuel tank, and built the oil tank. The rear fender’s been scalped from a vintage Harley FX Super Glide, then modified to suit. Swept back bars and a pair of beautifully-bent nickel-plated exhausts add to the vintage vibe.

The paint’s extra classy too—a 1930s Harley scheme laid down by Skop Paint Works. Hide’s Ironhead blends vintage speedway and flat track styles together to create a minimalistic and impossibly cool machine. The perfect use of an Ironhead motor. [More]

Hot Chop Speed Shop Here’s another bike that stopped visitors to the 2018 Mooneyes event dead in their tracks: a twin-engined Harley drag bike by Kentaro Nakano at Hot Chop Speed Shop in Kyoto. Using two Sportster XLCH engines, Nakano-san built the monster as a tribute to the drag racers of the 70s.

Unsurprisingly, it picked up two awards at the show—from the top Japanese mags, Hot Bike and Vibes.

‘Double Trouble’ uses a 1969 Ironhead in front, with an older engine at the rear. Both run with S&S Super B carbs, fitted with custom velocity stacks. Kentaro’s friend Kazuhiro Takahashi of Sakai Boring helped rebuild the engines.

The two V-twins are linked by connecting plates, and their output shafts are connected to two separate primaries. The transmission’s a four-speed from a 1980s Big Twin and Kentaro has set the timing of the two motors so that they go ‘potato potato’ at idle, but scream at high revs.

The whole arrangement is housed in a custom hardtail frame, fabricated from steel tubing. There’s a set of early 70s Ducati Imola forks up front, with 18” rims at both ends wrapped in M&H drag slicks. Kentaro installed a pair of Airheart brakes up front, with a Wilwood brake out back.

All of the bodywork was fabricated in aluminum, from scratch. Fuel sits in the cylindrical reservoir up front, with oil held in the seat ‘cowl.’ Custom upholstery from Atelier Cherry adds to the period-correct look.

Double Trouble’s finished off with a narrow set of custom drag bars, with a 1970s H-D tacho out front. The bodywork’s been left raw, with tidy Hot Chop Speed Shop decals on the tank. Buttoned up, it’s both elegant and monstrous. [More]

Hazan Motorworks Max Hazan’s work speaks for itself, but what’s remarkable is that the American builder’s had an unmistakable signature from day one. If you don’t believe us, then consider the fact that this Sportster-powered artwork was only his fourth build.

“I start with a motor that I find aesthetically pleasing, put it on the table, and build the bike around it,” Max told us back then. In this case, the motor is exquisite. Max built it up with two 1981 Ironhead front heads, split the rocker covers and added matching Amal carbs.

The frame was built from 7/8” and 1” steel tubes, and also holds the oil and wiring. The front-end’s a work of art on its own; it uses two springs under the fuel tank, and a damper behind the headlight. The only rear suspension is a pair of springs under the seat, with about 1.5” of travel.

Max had a set of 1920s car tires in his hands, so he built the bike up with a 30” wheel out front, and a 31” hoop at the back. They suit the scale of the bike too—which measures eight feet long, but weighs just 300 lbs.

Almost everything was fashioned by hand, using metal that was lying around the workshop, or, in some cases, small salvaged parts. There’s a frosted shot glass as a taillight cover, and a porcelain doorknob on the hand shifter. The handmade tank only holds 1.5 gallons… but Max is under no illusions about his creation having to be ridden far.

Eight years on, this Ironhead still stands as one of our favorite Harleys—nay, customs—and some of Max’s best work. [More]

HardNine Choppers The 1979 Harley-Davidson XLCR is arguably too rare to be customized these days, but the owner of this Sporty has three. So he had no qualms about handing one over to Swiss builder Danny Schneider for a makeover.

Danny, who operates as HardNine Choppers, is an ex-motocrosser who had previously built two Triumph flat trackers, and was itching to give a Harley the same treatment. So he took on the project with the provision that he could turn it into a tracker. Luckily, the client agreed.

Danny’s work went deep—starting with the motor that he bored out from 997 cc to 1,340 cc, with KB Performance pistons. The carb is from the Harley performance specialists, S&S Cycle, and the exhaust is a custom nickel-plated system that exits under the seat. Danny had to relocate the oil tank to accommodate it.

The custom fuel tank echoes the lines of the original XLCR unit, but it’s actually a slimmer, split design (the left side houses the oil). Danny hand-shaped an aluminum tail section too, with slits to help dissipate heat. He made the seat pad himself, too.

Suspension is by way of Showa shocks from an FXR, fitted with Öhlins cartridges, and Bitubo rear shocks. It rolls on 21F/16R spoked wheels, with a Beringer brake set that Danny drove to the French company’s HQ to have made.

This XLCR is a clever mix of classic style and modern parts, tied together with a host of custom touches and a fresh paint job inspired by a mini-bike spotted on the street (true story).

It’s also a great story of perseverance; Danny took a two-year break in the middle of the project to welcome his daughter into the world and battle testicular cancer. DP Customs We’ve featured a slew of slammed and hot-rodded Harleys from the now-defunct DP Customs over the years, but this was one of their wildest. Brothers Jarrod and Justin Del Prado built it as a personal project between client jobs, using Justin’s own 1000 cc 1979 Ironhead Sportster as a donor.

DP Customs went all-out, starting with a turbo that had been sitting in the shop waiting for the right project.

The motor was rebuilt with forged pistons and new valves and springs, then the turbo was installed with a custom draw-through setup, and a Mikuni carb. From the custom aluminum intake and exhaust, to the custom oil system that runs into a Mooneyes tank, it’s an impressive setup.

Like three of the other Harleys on this list, this one features a scratch-built hardtail frame. It uses DP Customs’ signature 6” stretch and 4” drop, with a custom 19” wheel up front, and a modified 15” car wheel at the back. The front brake’s a Brembo, and the rear is a custom system with a combination sprocket and rotor.

Up top is a wafer-thin seat, with a traditional peanut tank up front. DP Customs installed clip-ons with Biltwell Inc. grips, and head- and taillights—but there’s no speedo, and no turn signals. The asymmetrical paint job, red frame and gold wheels should clash, but somehow they harmonize, maximizing the Harley’s eye candy appeal.

DP Customs admit the bike wasn’t built with practicality in mind, summing up that “it hauls ass in a straight line, and the brakes work.” [More]
