A concepção de Minhyuk não foi apenas acidental, mas também uma enorme surpresa para a família Choi. Após 5 filhos já em idade adulta o casal não esperava mais uma criança, mas, quando a senhora Choi completou 50 anos, o caçula e temporão da família veio ao mundo. 

Não é preciso dizer que o menino cresceu mimado por todos ao seu redor: embora os pais fossem de origem humilde e ganhassem a vida trabalhando com pesca, os irmãos mais velhos dele sempre ajudavam com o que podiam na criação do caçula e faziam questão de não deixar nada faltar em sua criação, nem financeiramente nem emocionalmente. 

Apesar disso, ser o filho mais novo de 6 tinha suas consequências. Cresceu mimado mas também na sombra dos irmãos mais velhos - em uma família que com muito sufoco e sacrifício dos pais conseguiu formar um filho médico, outro advogado, engenheiro, empresário, e um professor, era difícil encontrar um lugar para se encaixar e até mesmo uma personalidade para assumir. O que poderia ser e fazer para se destacar e orgulhar os pais se seus irmãos já haviam feito quase tudo antes dele?

Tamanha indecisão fez com que o Choi optasse por não prestar o vestibular assim que saiu da escola. Embora a contragosto dos pais que queriam que ele desse seguimento a sua educação, Minhyuk decidiu que se alistaria no serviço militar obrigatório assim que terminasse os estudos e assim o fez, atuando nas forças armadas pelos próximos anos.

Foi durante seu tempo no exército que conheceu um homem, alguns anos mais velho, que se tornou seu amigo e mestre. O policial foi responsável por despertar em Minhyuk o desejo de conhecer mais sobre a profissão, acima do senso comum que trazia consigo, e quando finalizaram seu tempo de serviço o agora amigo também foi seu maior incentivador para que estudasse e tentasse entrar na academia de polícia e dar início a carreira.

Não foi fácil entrar na Korean National Policy University, não apenas por ser uma das mais concorridas do país como também por Minhyuk não ter sido o aluno mais estudioso em seus anos de educação, mas, após 2 anos de cursos preparatórios e estudo incansável o rapaz iniciou sua jornada para se tornar um policial, se formando 4 anos depois na KNPU e finalmente começando a trabalhar com a profissão que conquistou seu coração. 

Embora já trabalhe como policial a dois anos, faz apenas 4 meses que foi transferido para Seul e embora goste muito mais da sua unidade atual ainda é difícil lidar com as frequentes piadinhas sobre seu jeito meio "caipira" de ser.

I live in a city full of people whose personalities are “I write code and drive fast cars”, I let them show off and nod politely because I’m classy.

Oh you’re really new to it! Congratulations! Is it just general, or do you focus on one issue?

Shownu’s just like “here’s my terrible child who bites me, ah, what can I do about it, I love him deeply”. He’s those images of animals climbing all over a capybara that’s just chilling. And of course I love his arms literally what am I doing at the gym if not trying to get his arms. He’s so strong and so controlled in his dance it’s insane, and then you remember he’s taller than a lot of idols and it’s even more impressive.

Minhyuk’s holding it down for all of us with those big ass hands of his.

“Disney face Marvel body” is absolutely Wonho. When he’s in skimpy clothing that shows off his body but being a sweetheart or a complete dork? He’s soooo precious.

And then the way Changkyun released “Goddamn” after they knew Wonho was landing on his feet with his re-debut? It felt like a direct response to it, and a very deliberate story about an individual struggling with substance use and mental health issues deserving of care and empathy, rather than “drug users are monsters and criminals”. I love Duality so much, it really feels so small and personal from being such a small team doing everything, and the fact he took that opportunity to address an issue that hurt someone so close to him so publicly was really beautiful. Especially picking drug imagery that implies suffocation and muteness? If I tear up at the shot in the video where he looks up at the camera with the mask on with exhaustion and resignation, well, that’s between god and me.

Anyway!

That sounds like a really healthy way to go about dating. A partner should enhance your life, not be your life, and it’s great that you’re waiting for something that is beneficial to you rather than just trying to make it fit.
