What if MyStreet Reborn is the story of what happened to Irene before the events of Minecraft Diaries Reborn where she locked away her memories so she could learn to feel again?

Aphmau did say in one of her old streams that Minecraft Diaries, MyStreet, Minecraft Diaries Reborn AND MyStreet Reborn were all connected so what, like how Minecraft Diaries Reborn was Irene's story after she sealed her memories away, MyStreet Reborn is about the life of Irene?

Aphmau/Jess verse theory

(Honestly, this is probably very wrong)

So for all of you who have watched Aphmau’s series on YouTube, it seems to me like it’s mostly one big timeline between Minecraft Diaries and Mystreet.

So here’s the thing: MCD is like medieval times, with lords, guards, and knights. Mystreet on the other hand, is a lot more like our modern times.

So with Irene and the Divine warriors. We all know how like Irene is super powerful and all, but what if after MCD season 3 and all that, so she could have performed a special spell to save Pheonix Drop village? What if… this is why so much of Mystreet is based on MCD and have most of the same characters? Now that’s what we’re going to explore.

MCD and Mystreet both have same characters and somethings that pop up in the show of Mystreet was in MCD.

Now here’s what I believe that makes these two shows so similar and why/how they are connected.

I believe that Irene the Matron put like a spell/shield on Pheonix Drop village. So with all the reoccurring characters and plot lines, she must’ve created a system to keep the people alive as long as she can, and when they pass away, they would be reborn. But to where you may ask? To the more modern times! To MYSTREET!

Now, let’s talk about our oldest and still one of the original favorites: Aphmau! See, in both shows, Aphmau seems to be connected to Irene in some way. I tend to think of the connection like this: Irene’s soul/ heart (Whatever you want to think it as) was split into three pieces. Irene is one part, MCD Aphmau is one part, and MS Aphmau is the other. I guess you could say that the uncanny similarities between the Irene and the Aphmau’s are based on the fact that when Irene died, she was reborn into MCD Aphmau.

Just like the similarities between Aaron and Shad. (No, I’m not based on Shad using Aaron’s body for season 3 of MCD.) I also believe that since Irene and Aph are connected in that way, Aph would be able to access Irene’s and maybe MCD Aph’s memories (as seen a bit in MCD). Okay, I’m sure you get my point now. I’m gonna stop rambling. Bye!

I've decided today that I'm (eventually) gonna actually write a rewrite/AU of Minecraft Diaries, does not yet have a title. I have many thoughts about the Shadow Knights specifically, so here's the most basic form of the Lore I've made up for them so far:

Shadow Knights reside in the depths of The Nether in a highly fortified mountain-like structure known as the Empty Palace in the middle of a lava lake, made up of blackstone spires and basalt deltas, carved out into hallways, rooms and windows.

There are two variants: Soldiers, the most common, they form squadrons under the orders of a Commander, the other rank, of which there are few. There are a total of around two-three hundred Shadow Knights in the Nether still loyal to their King/Lord.

Soldiers have two forms- human, where they look human (obviously) and the Shadow Form, which is used when raiding villages, fighting, or just causing carnage in general.

Commanders have a third form, a Tyrant, which is far more monstrous and feral, hardly resembling a human at all.

Gene and Sasha are both Commanders. Gene's Tyrant is giant and resembles a kraken (it makes sense, trust me) and Sasha's is spider-like.

Four of the five season 1 Knights (Gene, Sasha, Zenix, Vylad and Laurance) died in the overworld, then were brought to the Nether. Vylad died and was reborn as a Knight in the overworld, and Laurance died and was reborn in the Nether, which affects the way they are as Knights.

Killing a Lord/Family member to gain immortality also kills the Shadow Knight's humanity/conscience. It's the breaking point that makes them truly mad, fully loyal to their master.

On that note, Shadow Knights can get their humanity back if it is given and desired. Vylad got hers back from the old woman who told him to give Irene's blessing to Phoenix Drop (who I'm saying is Hyria, don't know if that's canon), and Zenix got his from Aph herself after a whole thing, I'll get into it in a different post (maybe)

anyway, yeah, the Shadow Knights are funky creatures to me. I will continue to shake the jar.

I wanna know what the calling feels like.

I can't remember if it was ever described in canon minecraft diaries but holy shit it is talked about so much, especially regarding Laurance.

I feel like there's definitely some sort of pain involved, whether it be emotional or physical. There's some need to kill the one you protect with your life, so pain is necessary, especially in Laurance's case.

He loves Aphmau so much, yet is forced to leave because HE. HAS. TO. KILL. HER.

I feel like it burns. I think Shadow Knights and fire are so related. Sasha was literally reborn from lava. I know that they are for the most part "undead," but look at Laurance. He never died. He was transformed in a different way. And Alexis (for the time that she was an SK).

I want to be able to sympathize with Laurance, and Sasha, and other Shadow Knights who haven't answered the calling. I want to know why Vincent went through with it.

I want to know more about Zenix, one of the youngest SK's we've met, and the kind of pressure it puts on a teen. The kind of headspace you have to be in to rationalize murder, especially when you're that young and impulsive.

I could literally talk about Shadow Knights for hours, they are such an intriguing part of Minecraft Diaries.

Although the writing of diaries had dropped what's your general opinion on Mcd Aphmau? I liked her generally and was annoyed with her in season 2 but generally fine. Oh boy I don't like season 3 Aphmau. I wish there was moral conflicts with her. She is a leader after all and it would be cooler if we saw her struggle more instead of ALWAYS being this benvelont goody two shoes. She would learn anyway given she was reborn with no memories right?

minecraft diaries season 1.

you're greeted by an energetic youtuber, ready to adventure and begin a world of roleplay, mystery, and fun. hey voice is peppy, either keeping you drawn in by the charm or annoying the shit out of you for listening to her for the millionth time. she's by no means a minecraft genius, but there's fun in that.

there's fun in watching her learn the world around her, having been obvious to all of the world around her. you learn as she does, and as she learns she begins to take what she knows and improve the world. she's now the protagonist of this beaten up little village, a smiling face that's only goal is to make things better for her and her growing family. life easier, more fun, enjoyable. there was so much misery and confusion before. she really helped it.

this woman was fun. she was growing. she didn't give up. she didn't understand. but she was love.

minecraft diaries season 2.

something has happened. years of her life were stripped from her in a matter of minutes; she would die the same death, of course, but the world moved on without her and everything she built was gone.

she is not so happy as she once was. there's a saddness to her now. her voice is heavier, not nearly as chipper as what you were used to. where did she go? her clumsy and silly conclusions, jokes, attempts - all washed away, leaving a shell of what once was.

she attempts to be the same, on occasion. but she's not. she doesn't carry the energy she once had. can we blame her?

we'll see.

this woman was tired. she was powerful. she wouldn't give up. she understood too much. but she was isolated.

minecraft diaries season 3.

a woman who was torn down, traumatized, and straight-up taken advantage of. she's come to terms with the fact that she has to make a name for herself, apparent from the title she'd received three years prior.

goddess.

that's not her. she has to prove it. that, and she has to prove she's not willing to be taken advantage of again. she's stronger now; you can hear it in her voice. something so lifeless, so serious, so routine.

she's here to prove she's different than what she spawned from.

it's not working. she's going backwards. she'd never been more herself from the point she'd started this adventure, she struggled to keep the ideals that kept her as

this woman was stern. she was formidable. she couldn't give up. she sought the truth. but she only needed herself to do it.

throughout minecraft diaries, we see a slow decline in what made aphmau such an interesting character to begin with. this head-on attitude, taking everything on first hand without taking in the risks. she wasn't here to stall, she was here to succeed. she did what she wanted, and what she felt would protect the people around her. in season 2, we lost a lot of the laughter s1 aphmau brought. we lost a lot of the smiles, the energy. we lost everything - because we lost jess.

now, say what you will, but in the end, season 1 aphmau was jess acting through a persona. yes, aphmau was in fact a character, but jess was just pulling the strings. she was just her. jess is a very energetic person, and that was very apparent in her initial performance of aphmau. notice, that as the season progressed and got deeper into the pit of the story, there ARE declines in said performance. because now, jess is learning that aphmau NEEDS to be a seperate character. with a world so in depth like this, a story running this deep? she can't hold aphmau's hand anymore!

she begins to distance herself from aphmau, making more clear-cut distinctions. aphmau is still oblivious to a lot of things, but she doesn't make a lot of foolish mistakes anymore. a lot of the clumsiness was gone, but the laughter was still mostly there! though, that was beginning to lose its momentum. aphmau was in much more serious situations, she needed to respond more appropriately than she did in the past. no more giggles in serious situations, no more "woah, that's a lot" in commentary of npcs dialogue, smiles seem more scarce.

by season 2, no more high-pitched youtuber charm. we're in the big leagues now - aphmau doesn't remember her origins as a character. she's fully immersed, and all of the continuities are irrelevant to her. she has to be able to build up great character relationships, right? she has to be serious to do that! besides, a lot has happened, its only fair to say that she has the right to be a little upset.

i think its a wonderful narrative of an optimistic character learning the horrors of humanity and slowly declining from there. that's great! but that's not aphmau.

it seems like a progression of aphmau's character, if you wanted to see it like that.

i don't.

i think the best thing jess could do for aphmau was to continue to embody her. something so face-palming about s1 aphmau was the fact that she did not seem to take ANYTHING seriously at first. obviously, things change, but she'd be dropped some important lore, take it in, and move on as always. no matter how distressing the information seemed to be. yeah, some of her reactions make you think "holy shit aphmau why are you laughing. aphmau. what." but that was her charm!

season 2 eliminates that entirely. aphmau is still learning things but she seems to hang on to them. what's weird is that they jumped 15 years into the future without the irene gang but it feels like aphmau emotinally progressed at least three of them, making her a completely different character. now with all of the love problems kicking off, she begins to take a much more isolated, serious, and quite frankly boring route. no more fun commentary. no more adventure risk-taker.

i'm getting tired and losing focus so i'm going to try and wrap this up.

in season 2 she becomes a lot more selfish in my opinion. i promise i'm going to gather reasons as to why i believe this and i'll attach them at a later date, i just need to do a rewatch first to gather everything. she is less an embodiment of love, and more... admiration, i suppose. she's the woman who did it all. she's not the woman who spreads love anymore. this grows increasingly apparent by how she treats laurance later on. she's wrapped up in her own world. i understand having your own issues and needing to work through them - trust me, i do. but some of the issues she faces don't feel like they belong to her character. if you know what i mean you know, but again, i will attach things later.

in season 3, we're not even looking at a blueprint of the same character. she seems to have aged far beyond her damn years, having a strange holier-than-thou tone and vocabulary. put her next to her s1 character, reskin her, boom no reminisce of what once was.

"but matthew thats how character development works" uh yeah WHEN WE SEE IT. bro she skipped a whole ass 3 years we didnt see jack SHIT, its lazy writing and for that i cannot under any circumstance see her as in-character. she feels so empty. she's just a character being voice acted and brought around so that we can learn mroe about world building at this point. please bring back my girls initial charm

anwyays on soemthing im pretty sure i alluded to earlier, it is still interesting though that she becomes more and more like irene the more she tries to distance herself. irene, who became a stoic who felt no emotion - aphmau isn't like that, but she's defintiely losing the power & strength in her emotions. if jess took this direction in writing, id be more content. but she didnt and now we'll never know LOL

thoughts on rebirth?

I liked rebirth a lot! I'm sad it was discontinued:[

I feel like it's a perfect idea in concept, remaking at the very least the beginning half of the series and removing any of the earlier Let's Play/Minecraft Mechanic-y elements that were ultimately discordant with what the series became. As far as story goes, I mostly enjoyed Aphmau's whole thing: I remember the 'waking up in the forest' part was a popular headcanon back then (anyone remember that Proxy Comics animation?), so it's kinda funny to see it became Canon - i mean, it is basically what happens everytime you start a Minecraft world isn't it?

I loved the Jury set-up. I think the Jury should have gotten more time in s1 and should not have been disbanded by s2 (but thats a separate post...) But I'm so happy they got more attention, even if the series never panned out fully.

I loved that early NPCs got some more character and were fleshed out a bit. Vischer, Donna, Brendan, etc etc. but ESPECIALLY Zenix. I'm glad they gave him Mystreet Zenix's personality because OG Zenix was a little... lacking in that department. I loveeeee Rebirth Zenix (& Garroth).

As far as criticism I have two main ones I can think of rn:

1. I really, really do not like the opening scene. I feel like it trivializes two of the og series' main reveals. It all but tells you Garroths whole Thing before you've even met him, and I don't like that we actually see Vylad put down the staff. One of my favorite scenes in the OG Diaries is when Hyria is telling her story and Vylad interjects revealing He put all the events of the past two seasons in motions. I think the delivery of that scene is really, really good and *Goddamn* is it such good payoff on the mysteries surrounding both Vylad and Aphmau's characters at that point. It makes me giddy everytime I watch it. I think the opening would have been fine if we just see the staff by itself doing it's thing, or just see it from Aphmau's perspective waking up.

2. I don't really care for the fact that Aphmau has her Irene Powers right off the bat. I think it should have focused entirely on her more... 'human' contributions to the town like when she's helping Brendan, etc. I've always imagined Irene, before being reborn, put all of her power into the relic in her Dimension as basically a last resort just in case shit went sideways and her incarnation needed it, but that she was never really intending on it needing to be accessed again. It goes to her automatically solely to keep it out of Zane's hands - kind of like the legend of Chang'e, where her absorbing the relic is definitely the better option but it's still treated as a tragic and unfortunate occurrence. I always liked that s2 was building off of s1's characterization of Aph as someone who loves to help out, but through the lense of her just being some Lady who has been abruptly forced to contend with her now extremely confused identity as someone now tied to Irene (even before she knows she *is* irene). and the struggle with those new expectations she experiences both from others who witness her accidental shows of power and herself, who wants to be doing More but doesn't really enjoy this newfound ability. her non-magical work seems almost inadequate now when she can literally bring people back from the dead and banish demons that have been unstoppable for centuries.

other than that I do genuinely enjoy rebirth. it's fun. it's nostalgic. even if it never got finished I do love that MCD at least got some update since the cancelling of S3.

Gene & Aphmau

Currently thinking about how cool it would have been to see Gene and Aphmau’s relationship progress throughout the series. Aphmau’s character starts as this naive but well-meaning girl, while Gene has to pretend he isn’t a murderous Shadowknight. They actually had some endearing moments together, so it would have been interesting to watch Gene unintentionally form a budding friendship with her. He’ll stay a villain and later on betray her, but there’s always going to be something there, you know? 

Then when Aphmau eventually becomes more hardened by the world and has to fight against Gene, it could show the complete 180 of their relationship. She knows that he’s the enemy now. They fight, and Gene cockily brings up how dumb she was before and how easy it was to trick her. She says she isn’t that stupid little girl anymore. “Of course,” he says in a taunting tone. “No more saving you from drowning in the river or stopping you from pointing knives at your face.” He laughs. Then, his voice suddenly loses that bravado, and something changes in his eyes. “...It was fun while it lasted, huh?” 

A villain that has a secret soft spot for the hero, but it isn’t enough to stop him from his evil ways? It would have given him some depth! He wouldn’t have been a completely one-dimensional antagonist. It would have invoked emotion in the viewers knowing that they could have bonded in another life, and it would have equally pained them to know that Gene and Aphmau are well aware of that fact, too.
