*slides in here* I hear you have a problem/dislike when people give Leon alcoholism in their portrayals of him and would like to hear more about your thoughts on this. I usually think of him as someone who struggles with it solely because in the original re2, he misses his first day in Raccoon City because he was too drunk/hungover, or so I've been told. That's the main reason I think he struggles with alcoholism, and seeing him drinking get put on screen in every adaptation just further solidifies the idea to me. Tell me everything you think?
okay so first of all, the thing is, being an alcoholic and sometimes drinking, or even sometimes using alcohol as a bad coping mechanism, are not the same thing. not by a long shot. and there is literally nothing suggesting that Leon can't function without alcohol or that he does that continuously all the time. having a drink after a rough mission or a rough day at work? i think he's deserved one. and I think people jumping from an adult having a drink to alcoholism without a second thought is too damn extreme.
he missed one day of work because he was hungover. it's just not enough data to draw from to say he does so with any sort of regularity. he was also 21, and who hasn't made shitty decisions at 21? dude just went through a bad breakup cut him some slack lol.
secondly! how much does he actually drink?
he doesn't drink in re4. he doesn't drink in re6. he doesn't drink in Degeneration. he doesn't drink in Infinite Darkness. and I only saw Death Island once but I don't think he drank in that one either. (he drinks water in Darkside Chronicles :'D do we count that?) and even in re2 his drinking is only mentioned in the og backstory. so saying his drinking is put on screen in every adaptation is exaggerating it a lot.
he has like one sip from a flask in Damnation and then a shot at the end, so I'm hesitant to even count that. he only gets drunk in Vendetta and the og re2 backstory so... twice. his alcohol usage is probably more sensible than mine :'D in Vendetta he also made sure that he was on vacation, tucked away from everyone else, so he could get drunk in peace, which is like the most responsible way to do it. so his drinking has only ever negatively impacted his life in ...the og re2 backstory when he was 21 and just went through a bad breakup.
also! to be clear! i am not saying people can't make a work of fiction and make him an alcoholic there! I've done it too! if it's the story you want to tell then don't let anything stop you. that's the beauty of fanworks, you get artistic freedom lol.
what I have a problem with is people claiming Leon canonically is an alcoholic and anyone who disagrees is flat out wrong. and people who claim it often don't even seem to realize that sometimes drinking =/= alcoholism.
i'm very tired so idk if this covered everything lol but here's at least a summary of it.

Some photo-bombing of my 1:6 scale, custom OG RE4 Leon S. Kennedy action figure. I just repainted him, after modifying his eyes once again. I am supper happy with him. I did ruin the irises once, after doming as is a habit of mine, one that I don't enjoy nor purposely do. Yet here we are. I feel like I managed to save the irises, despite them not being as clean, as I originally painted them. I somehow like them better, even if the right pupil is much larger and makes it look sheep-ish, it's not, it's just my poor doming technique. DX
Regardless, I am super in-love with my Leon, and I just hope to do a better, cleaner job next time I repaint him and/or/modify him again. Leon is by far one of the characters I love the most (aside from Sephy and Sasuke!). Original RE4 Leon will always be my favorite, and I will always dream of owning an accurate figure of that version of him. This is probably not it, but I am super happy with how he's looking so far. Maybe one day, I can make him look more accurate, even if the head is massive and will never look accurate on any actual 1:6 action figure body. The whole facial structure is ways off, but oh well. There's not much I can do, yet I might keep trying. Stubborn as I am.
I am working on a new wig for him, and hopefully this time it won't be as puffy as this one, and also a more accurate shade of dirty blonde. Which will be hard, as telling correct synthetic hair colors from a screen is kind of hard. These are quite repetitive, but because he's head is so huge, the neck on the DAMToys LSK RE2 figure is kind of thin, so I have to pose him in ways the neck won't make it look like an apple on a stick. Which is my biggest annoyance on dolls/figures in general.

Resident Evil 4 vs 8, and Ludonarrative Resonance
Having fallen so very hard for RE8 late last year, I’m incapable of talking about the new RE4 remake without comparing the two – especially when RE8 now occupies the bizarre position of being simultaneously the remake’s immediate predecessor, canonical-later-sequel, and also other pseudo-remake of RE4.
Tumblr media
And it’s hard to appreciate just how much RE8 draws from RE4 until you’ve played them both – in broad concept (sinister bioweapon cult in isolated European village, lengthy castle section, awkward shift towards military-shooter-itis at the end – heck, did you know RE8 was even supposed to have Ada Wong showing up with a sniper rifle to rescue Ethan from cutscenes in early drafts? Because that was definitely going too far) and its initial chapter especially. I’d osmosed the broad strokes, but not, for example, the degree to which the first lycan attack in 8 is basically just the first village assault from RE4: mobbed by an endless stream of regular enemies and the one big guy (who you can defeat, but should probably just try to avoid) in an open environment until an invisible timer runs out and everyone goes home.
It’s not a one-way street: it’s only fair to say that by the time of RE4make, Capcom was re-integrating a lot of what worked in 8 back into the new RE4. But as many elements represent a conscious step back from the reinventions of RE7 in favour of recreating gameplay elements of the original: 3rd person view, visible health bar, etc. The same basic arsenal of pistol-shotgun-sniper-rile becomes available to you in that order, but trying to play Leon as you would Ethan is not going to come off seamlessly.
Tumblr media
Leon he can’t block, for one. He can parry, but that’s not the same thing. His knife works very differently, many of its uses contextual. You have to aim before firing now – hitting fire without aiming first makes Leon slash with his knife instead (very annoying when I have the sniper rifle equipped, the enemy is too close for the scope to be useful, and failing to get a round off in a hurry is about to make my life a lot more uncomfortable) – and if you’re aiming, you can’t parry. The gameplay in the RE4 remake is honestly my favourite thing about it (the story is... more of a mixed bag, but we'll get to that), but coming to it directly off RE8 is just a little frustrating until you get your head around it. GDI, Leon, Ethan can make a decent mine that doesn’t go off on its own if it’s not tripped in 30 seconds, why can’t you?
Tumblr media
Questionable nitpicks aside though, having gotten the hang of RE4’s combat, the more I think about it, the more the differences between how Ethan and Leon handle do actually work for me, and even make sense from a character-centric POV. Intentionally or not, there’s a kind of ludonarrative resonance to it all.
If you’ve read any video game critique in the last decade or so, you’ve likely run into the term ludonarrative dissonance: coined to highlight all those times when the story a game tells via dialogue and cutscenes clashes with the ‘ludonarrative’, or story created by the gameplay. The classic example is something like the Tomb Raider reboot, where cutscenes linger on the trauma of Lara's first human kill, but gameplay will still see her easily mowing down enemies mooks by the dozen barely five minutes later. See also: any time a character is a total badass in gameplay, but can be easily overpowered by a single opponent when necessary for a cutscene. This kind of narrative inconsistency is to some degree the nature of the medium – it’s a rare game that can avoid it altogether, but it can still throw you out of the experience.
Tumblr media
For a more Resident Evil specific example, consider that minor plot point from RE6 which reveals that Sherry (one of the many playable characters) has an Ethan-like healing ability as a result of her exposure to the G-virus back in RE2. This has no effect on gameplay, before or after the reveal: Sherry’s health bar works the same as any other character’s. Even the RE4 remake hits this problem: letting Ashley be carried too far away by an enemy mook is an instant game-over in gameplay, but you’d better be prepared to see the exact same thing happen in multiple cutscenes at specified plot points, with no way to avoid it (c’mon, game, I know they’re just gonna stick her in a room with no guards somewhere, lemme go find her!)
You could arguably find a similar problem to Sherry’s in RE8, where Ethan very-canonically comes back from the dead after having his heart ripped out in a cutscene, even though he can absolutely be killed in regular gameplay. And yet, here, I’m inclined to cut the game some slack – because there is arguably an explanation provided, and it’s suitably horrific.
Tumblr media
Ethan may be able to reattach severed limbs and walk off falls from great heights, but having his heart ripped out puts him down long enough to convince Chris he’s really dead – definitely down for the count. And if you pay attention to the (many) death-scenes that play after Ethan is killed by a lycan or moroi, you may notice that most monsters immediately start eating him as they light fades away. Ethan may come back after having his heart ripped out, but being digested may be a step too far.
And Ethan can get eaten a lot in this game. Moreau can eat you. The mould-foetus-monster can eat you. Dimitrescu makes pretty-fucking-clear her own desire to eat you too. Sturm doesn’t, but is certainly equipped to reduce Ethan to a fine, pink mist.  Whether those final-moments were included specifically to fill that plot hole or whether they were just thrown in for ‘ordinary’ horror value I can only speculate, but it’s always nice when all those little, gory details tie together, isn’t it?
Tumblr media
If we’re going to take games to task for all those probably-accidental moments where the gameplay and the story clash, it’s only fair to note a few of the ones where they do the opposite (likewise-accidental though they may be). Ludonarrative resonance, if you will.
On a basic level, pointing out that gameplay differences between RE4 and 8 make sense for Ethan’s vs Leon’s respective strengths and weaknesses may be a little too obvious. Leon can stagger an enemy with a bullet and then rush in to finish him off a roundhouse kick or a supplex because Leon is a certified badass with way more training than Ethan (who makes one vague mention of having had military training, presumably as an excuse for why he aims so much faster in RE8 than 7).
But it goes so far beyond that.
Tumblr media
There’s the issue of blocking, for one. Ethan can block – roughly holding his hands up in front of himself to reduce incoming damage – but Leon can’t. This was initially annoying, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it as a logical change. Sure, Leon can’t block, but Leon doesn’t secretly have mould-powered super-healing, and trying to tank axe-blows to reattachable parts of his body probably isn’t a viable strategy. What he can do is parry with his knife: a more skill-dependent strategy for a more-skilled guy. Timing is much trickier, but only his knife takes damage – Leon doesn’t, so when it works, it’s much better than blocking. And given Leon has this whole backstory-thing about being trained by a knife-obsessed nutjob, that all adds up too.
Then there’s the thing with ladders. Ethan can fall any distance without taking damage, but convincing him to take a gravity-shortcut doesn’t always work: if there’s a ladder nearby, he’ll take it. Leon, by contrast, clearly sees ladders as a waste of time. Ashley will use them to get down from high places, if there’s one available, but Leon, to my joy, prefers to jump. And again, there’s an arguable logic there that appeals to me: Ethan may be immune to falling damage, but he’s badly in denial about it, and would much prefer to take the stairs. Leon isn’t superhuman, but he knows parkour, and he’s damn well going to use it.
Tumblr media
Health arguably follows similar logic. Ethan doesn’t get a proper health bar (maybe you need training to accurately judge how dead you are? IDK), just various colours to tell you roughly how bad this is going, and Ethan will be reduced to stumbling through a distorted red haze if you let him go too far into the red zone. Stumble around long enough without dying though, and Ethan will eventually walk it off, automatically returning to about half-health. Notably, Leon doesn’t get this same power (unless you’re playing on the very easiest difficulty – Ethan remains auto-healing right up to Village of Shadows level). But for a dude who canonically has healing powers, you can’t argue that makes a lot of sense.
The same rules apply to Mia too, when you’re playing her in RE7 – but given she’s been infected with the mould too, that tracks (and even if you did choose her for the cure, who’s to say how well such a haphazard cure even worked?)
Tumblr media
This logic does break down a bit in RE8 when you play as Chris, and blocking and walking-it-off remain core mechanics. And if you wanted to get really nitpicky, you might even point out the same mechanics are available to Ethan in his very first fight with Mia in RE7, where he’s (presumably?) not infected yet. But there comes a point where you have to admit that expecting the devs to change gameplay so much for one brief section of a much longer game isn’t really realistic (and would be that much more annoying to get used to for this one tiny section anyway).
Amusingly though, in the Mercenaries DLC, Chris has been reworked somewhat, and now can’t block anymore: hitting the ‘block’ button throws a left hook instead. Which is only too appropriate for Chris Boulder-Punching Redfield – but it’s interesting to note that Lady Dimitrescu (another new playable character) can’t block either.
Tumblr media
The only other character in Mercenaries mode who can block is Heisenberg, and he does so by raising a literal wall of sheet metal. Intentionally or otherwise, Mercenaries does kinda seem to cast Ethan’s ability to substantially reduce damage just by holding up his arms as pretty unique.
Speaking of health, Leon and Ethan can both increase their maximum HP – Leon by using yellow herbs, Ethan by eating food cooked for him by the Duke. Ethan, however, can also decrease the damage he takes while blocking and increase his running speed this way. This is the sort of game mechanic it’s probably not worth thinking too hard about, but even so, the idea that mould-man Ethan can enhance his own powers by eating food from around the village where the mould originates (and specially prepared by the nigh-omniscient Duke himself) is something I raised already over in my post on Mia and Miranda – and it fits here too. Leon, meanwhile, can only increase his own durability by buying body armour, then paying even more to keep it repaired (there is a case charm that increases his speed a little too, but it’s bloody hard to get).
Tumblr media
There are other little details that follow the same pattern too – whereas in RE8, I found myself mostly using the pistol to finish off any enemies who didn’t quite go down in one shotgun blast, in RE4, I found myself relying on my basic pistol a lot more, even when not going for kung-fu finishers. Mostly, that’s down to enemy speed and ammo availability, but you can’t argue it makes sense that the better-trained Leon would be better-equipped to get the job done with lower-calibre weaponry.
Now, to be clear, I doubt most of these little differences are down to the devs going “okay, this new game is about a mould-superman, how do we work that into gameplay?” when RE7 came out – and I’m pretty sure a lot of how the new RE4 plays is down to an earnest attempt to include as much of the old RE4 as still makes sense. Leon has a visible health bar and can supplex enemies into the dirt because people loved the original, and we’re not here to completely reinvent the best features of the wheel. Half the stuff that screams ludonarrative resonance to me is probably more happy accident as design.
But when, for example, you’re being irritated by the discovery that the only mines available to Leon will just go off on their own after 30 seconds if not triggered by an enemy, it’s nice to be able to tell yourself “bloody hell, guess you need a real engineer like Ethan to make a half-decent mine!” and treat that like an excuse. It doesn’t fundamentally change the way either game plays, but it feels like there’s some rhyme and reason to it, and that’s just a little bit more fun. And they’re both great combat systems in their own fun way.
YMMV, of course.

Well ladies and gentlemen, Halloween has arrived once again!
To celebrate, I want to introduce you all to a character of mine that I've been working on for actual years at this point (and am STILL kinda working on lol)
Say hello to:
The Phantom Maniac
Tumblr media
THIS guy was a character that I created all the way back in late 2019 that was originally inspired by The Drill Killer from Power Drill Massacre. (He was basically a ghost version of The Driller back then) However throughout the years I have fleshed him out and have inspired him more off of other things like RE2's 'Mr. X', Jason Voorhees, various cryptids of the U.S. and just general slasher and zombie films of the 70s/80s.
I created him when I wanted to create my own game based of off PDM, a friend of mine offered to help me out a lot with the project and it flourished into something more original.
I showed him off a lot back when I still had a Twitter account (some of you following may recognize him from there ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), he was still a W.I.P. back then but now I feel like he's a bit more refined and I feel a lot happier sharing stuff about him now!
With that being said, I hope you guys like the moldy green giant boi and I hope you all have a Happy Halloween!
Just in case, here's what all the text says on the image:
THE PHANTOM MANIAC
AKA The Woodland Walker, The Mold Behemoth or simply The Maniac
Age (Before death): UNKNOWN
Date of Death: Around the 1970s
Height and Weight: 7'0", 295 pounds
Weapon of choice: A worn Kukri Machete
(Will occasionally use Wood Axes)
An undead serial killer brought back to the mortal realm after making a deal with The Devil
Mainly stalks within heavily wooded forests located in the West and North-West region of the US
Though not known for speed, he is somehow able to travel great distances in very short amounts of time
Has supposedly been responsible for over 20 missing persons cases dated in the 1980s to 90s
Those that live near places that he's been know to lurk have reported decreased wild life populations, vandalized property and haunting noises rarely heard during the night

Maybe it's me being an old, decrepit Resident Evil fan but after playing the RE4 Remake I'm so so happy they brought Nick Apostolidies as Leon Kennedy. I was genuinely shocked at first because Nick took such a different angle for Leon that I genuinely did not recognize him at first. It sounded a bit like he was trying to do his own spin on Paul Mercier's Leon from the original RE4 but taken to a more ham-fisted level. Which in my opinion made this version of Leon 10x better for me and had me grinning ear-to-ear during Leon's one-liners.
The reason why I'm so happy is that Resident Evil is, as I've described in the past, a campy Japanese zombie soap-opera and none of that would have been possible without the voice actors/actresses. The way that people basically rebelled when they found out Allison Court, who had voiced Claire Redfield in basically every piece of media she was in up until Revelations 2 is a good example. Albert Wesker absolutely would have not been the iconic villain that he is without D.C. Douglas gives him Nicholas Cage-levels of ham and camp in RE5. Literally all of the original Resident Evil is a gold mine of horribly, HORRIBLY translated one-liners and they are all absolutely magnificent.
With Resident Evil and the fandom itself it genuinely feels like a family we have with not only the devs but the voice actors and the content creators. Nick Apostolidies was genuinely one of us in the fandom who was around on forums and when hearing that he landed the role in the RE2 Remake it felt like that scene in Inside Out where Bing-Bong cheers on Riley from the bottom of the pit of darkness. When Suzie aka The Sphere Hunter aka The Queen of Survival Horror interviewed Nick on a charity stream during the pandemic Nick had mentioned when he had gotten the role of Leon, he had reached out to the late Paul Haddad, who had originally voiced Leon in the original RE2 and had received not only Paul's encouragement but his blessings in playing the role of Leon. When Paul Haddad passed back in 2020 it sent shockwaves through the fandom. It genuinely felt like we had lost a part of our family.
The reason why the fandom was so vocal about their distaste in Revelations 2 wasn't because Claire's voice actress did a bad job, on the contrary, she did a fantastic job. It was because it wasn't Allison Court, who at that point had voiced Claire Redfield in every title and piece of media that Claire was voiced in up until that point. Resident Evil 2, Code Veronica, Darkside Chronicles, and multiple movies too. We hang on so frustratingly tight to these characters and the people who breath life into that that we get irrationally upset when things change or things go bad.
Which leads into my next point in this post. As much as I am praising the work of actors like Nick. I do want to shed light and recognition towards Lilly Gao. Who unfortunately as of late has deleted her Instagram because of fan backlash to a "mediocre" performance in the RE4 Remake. The hatred and backlash that Lilly has received is disgusting and uncalled for. I will admit they have toned down Ada's role in the remake but people outright saying she ruined the game? Absolutely uncalled for. This isn't Lilly's first go around at Ada either. It definitely is motivated by the fact that 1. Lilly is a woman but 2. Lilly is an AAPI woman and that makes her the target of unnecessary and unneeded criticism and attacks. Much moreso than her white counterparts would experience. I almost want to say that this behavior is new and is unheard of for the fandom but unfortunately that just isn't the case. While I am hoping we do see more from Ada and Lilly I don't know. What I do know is that we should all be rallying around the entire cast but especially Lilly. This remake is absolutely fantastic and even though her role may have been smaller, you physically cannot have Resident Evil 4 without Ada Wong.
*Update* I just found out through a user that DC Douglas actually groomed people. So we are absolutely aren't going to be singing his praises anymore. My apologies for bringing it up but I was messaged on this post and I genuinely did not know that this had occurred.

so while signalis is fully complete and doesn't need any more additions to be fully enjoyed, about a year ago i read a cool idea for an extra mode on signalis discord. it was inspired by tlou2 remaster's roguelike mode and would include multiple playable replikas (+ Isa) with all their quirks affecting the gameplay.
i never played tlou2 but the idea sounds so cool that i actually think about it quite often. the perspective of playing as a random replika with all their pros and cons, being dropped in one of the game's locations, with a randomized order of rooms to visit, items to collect and enemy placement (imagine going into a small room to see mynah chilling there with her mining laser). the objectives could vary from reaching a certain room to saving your replika wife friend!
the differences in replika designs would make for a nice gameplay spin. replikas with weaker frames would be much more fragile, star and storch units could focus their sights on enemies quicker than elster, aras could use vents as shortcuts and maybe bypass certain card readers.
if not a randomized roguelike mode, a fixed, time-limited scenario like re2's the 4th survivor or the original re3 mercenaries would do well too!
just a cool idea i wanted to share and for some reason can't stop thinking about

when you said vox is inspired by ada wong
what did you mean by that
So this won’t turn into a character analysis I’ll primarily say Ada’s character in the original and remake games inspired me when it came to Vox’s line between detachment from your profession vs investing yourself in it. Ada manipulates Leon into playing her game, but accidentally falls for him in the process; her feelings almost doomed her in both the OG and Remake RE2. Vox is the same way practically, as love would push him to the edge of death if it meant something. There’s also the fact that both Ada and Vox are types of people to deal in shady business, with their morals not aligning with societies expectations.
A man looks at himself in the mirror. He used to be someone else...But this morning, he will say goodbye to the name. "I'm not that person anymore..." He feels his ab and thinks, "This is his scar, not mine." And as he finally leaves, he can't stop his tears. However, there isn't much time left before his next meeting…

Pretty sure that the ending in SW was meant to be romantic as you can see Leon cry when Ada tossed him the keys, he's moved by it, with unlocked camera. Also the ost that plays during that cutscenes its literally from OG re2 when they kiss. That and the fact that there were cut content like pre rendered scenes with the two of them that didn't make it and also Mendez house supposed to have an alternative interaction. It's all in the game files.
aeon challenge: present an original argument not using talking points you’ve picked up from around the fandom (impossible) - FAILED
though you do get points for the cut content thing you're trying to push here. i don't know where you got that from. i've never heard that one before.
it's also not true. i'm familiar with the data mining community, and such a cutscene has never been spoken about or found. i even just checked again just to be sure, and nothing like what you're talking about exists. it's just a straight-up lie.

More of my Leon S. Kennedy repaint work. Now, it's my DAMtoys RE2 Remake Leon. I got the classic version head sculpt, parted out specifically to repaint him. Just a few days ago, actually. I was hoping this one would have better/nicer paint apps than the regular release, that I got when that one came out a few years ago. However, from what I saw (I haven't unboxed mine due to lack of display space) in his box, this one isn't nicer/cleaner/precise nor accurate to the prototype. Factory paint wise. At least the particular head I got, doesn't seem all that cleaner, or even close to the prototype. I don't doubt the prototype had better photographer, as I am not one by any stretch of the imagination. However, I'm pretty certain the prototype had better paint apps in general than what we got in box/actual-figure-release.
I want my Leon to look like a mixture of Remake and the hyper-realistic Fantasytoys 1:2 Leon bust. When I saw that bust for the first time my jaw dropped to the floor! It's a gorgeous rendition of Remake Leon, so of course I wanted to repaint my Damtoys figure for a long time, ever since. I just was too lazy to unbox him just to get his head sculpt out. The Remake first release head sculpt was going for too much by that time, but now that I got a chance to get a parted out classic version, since it just recently released in the USA. I was able to get a second HS to repaint, without having to unbox mine! Yay! And for not an eye off the face, like the first release is going for nowadays.
I can f-this one up all day, and not worry about regretting it later. Lol! I still need to clean his eyes, brows and lips a bit further, and I want to make him a touch tanner, since the parted Damtoys Remake Leon's body I got from the first release is a lot darker tanned, leaning towards sunburnt. My repaint doesn't look quite as tanned IRL, as he appears in my crap-photos, but his original factory paint was a lot darker tanned, and grayish. More so than the parted-out body (more gray, not tanner). I won't be using that body for him, however, since I do own the whole Remake figure, I will be displaying that full-set figure with this repainted head, once I get more display space/detolfs... who knows when that will happen. >___>;;
The 1st image is how he looks so far vs default Damtoys factory paint. The others are progress photos along the way, and from various angles and lighting positions. (:

hc + 💉 for a medical-themed headcanon
hc + 🐈 for a pet/animal-themed headcanon

Jill has a natural immunity to the Progenitor Virus and any strains derived from it: This means she can never be infected by a zombie bite or turn into a zombie due to infection. This comes up in canon once or twice, but I made a point to highlight it in my portrayal. Rebecca is working with Jill to research her immunity and potentially help develop a vaccine from it.
This is actually a major plot point in one of my verses crossing over with another blog of mine, @sillylittlelovesong. My Jill is the older sister of Melody Valentine from Josie and the Pussycats, and I have a story based on the Afterlife with Archie miniseries where S.T.A.R.S. comes in to defend Jill and Melody's home town of Midvale from a Progenitor outbreak in Riverdale. Jill and Melody being immune plays a huge part in that story.
Jill has a Labrador Retriever named Buddy. This comes from canon, specifically Resident Evil 2 (2019): In the original RE2 there is a picture on Jill's desk at the RPD of a young man who Leon and Claire presume is her boyfriend. The director of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, however, always insisted the man was just "Jill's Friend".
Who she has a portrait of. On her desk.
Yeah.
Anyway, in the remake this was changed to a picture of a dog. This dog picture also appears in Jill's apartment in R3make. The dog in question is not given a name, but is said to be a Golden Retriever. I named him Buddy, partly as a riff on the whole "Friend" thing, but mostly after "Air Bud", the famous dog who inspired the movie franchise. I also made him a Labrador Retriever to match the real Buddy. IRL Buddy lived in Los Angeles and was known for being able to consistently and expertly sink basketball jump shots: Given my Jill lives in Venice, known for its semipro streetball, the reference seemed obvious!
And yes, Jill definitely taught Buddy how to play basketball.
My Jill is blonde. Yes, I know what all my icons look like, but just trust me, OK? She is XD
Do you know how hard it is to find pictures of my faceclaim to make icons from, let alone pictures of her blonde
Jill is blonde briefly in RE5 (and kinda again in Death Island a bit) for pointless reasons that don't make sense, but I really like how striking she looks that way also I may have a thing for blonde women whoops. I was gonna have it be dyed (blonde Asian hair is a trendy look), but then I remembered I'd also have to explain Melody. And their mom.
So yeah. Jill is Asian or Austronesian - at least mixed - and naturally blonde. XD Maybe she has Melanesian in her ancestry.
This did allow me to do something cool I'm quite proud of though: Given Jill is a blonde LA Babe and is absolutely predisposed to slipping into full-on 80s Valley Girl (...not to mention what her sister is like XD) I thought that young rookie Jill, new to the force and wanting to make a good first impression, might have dyed her hair brunette out of fear she wouldn't be taken seriously as a blonde: Jill would have been well aware of the "Dumb Blonde" stigma, especially given what she witnessed Melody endure when they were growing up together, and perhaps she was very self-conscious about it.
This way I can give a nod to the default brunette Jill in canon, and add more depth and richness to my character's backstory.
As Jill grows up and into herself and starts building a second family with her team(s), she lets her natural hair shine through again because she's no longer afraid.

I love the link's awakening remake but it makes me sad knowing the nintendo will probably never do something like that for alttp, (at least not for a very long time) because of albw. Albw is good but it's not an alttp remake, it's a straight up sequel

Unpopular Opinions on RE2 remake?
mine is the lack of impact the two runs had on each other like with the wooden boards and things like I can think of one case where there is something carried over from CA to LB and that is the ivy zombies on the way out of the Lab (in CA they're on the ground in LB they're up and about)
omg i totally agree that there should’ve been more of that… like the dual plot lines could’ve been sooo much more fun if they actually had any significant bearing on each other. or even like a back and forth sort of thing would’ve been interesting imo, where leon would open one door but wouldn’t be able to get through another until you get through a claire section or smth. ik a lot of ppl don’t like that format very much but i don’t have a problem with it usually
anyway i feel like in the original there were scenes where claire and leon crossed paths multiple times in at least the police station but the remake feels so empty of any of that :( for the most part iirc it’s like you basically forget the other person is even around until near the end of the game
