Oh wow. I just realized that it could be the "ride or die protocol" Janet "engaged" in season 1 episode 12, Mindy St. Claire, that's probably responsible for a lot of shenanigans. Janet says it will make her "loyal to Jason forever." What if that persisted through all of the reboots and memory wipes? That's the "mutation" Michael talks about in season 2 episode 6, Michael and Janet, that "somehow got amplified with each reboot."
If it's Janet's protocol that causes her love for Jason to persist and grow, that means she loved him enough to choose to love him again and again. Beautiful.

Mindy got a Medium Place for planning a charity. She never got a chance to start it before she died. Everyone who worked on charity events and saved lives and did a bunch of other stuff that helped the world went to the Bad Place because they saw through their ideas, and the steps they took to do that cost them points.
You get more points by thinking about doing a good thing than actually doing it.

thinking about cain and him living alone for centuries(? when did his wife die) after slaughtering the knights of hell. forever after choosing not to do harm or fix things. to just. exist. alone. cooking for himself despite the fact he doesn’t need to eat and keeping his house tidy and tending to bees that would not choose to stay there unless he cared for them very well. and it is driving me. insane.

Like that part in the Good Place
"We need to use your backyard"
"Why?"
"We're trying to come up with a new version of the afterlife and"
"You know what? Stop talking. Go ahead, I don't care. As soon as I asked that question I asked "Why am I asking this? I don't care at all"

The good place committee fought so hard for Mindy St. Claire (even though she wasn't a great person on earth) because she was their best chance for a new good place resident in almost 500 years. Maybe they thought she could help them with their problems...and the best they could do for her was eternity alone in beige nowhere.

Mindy St Claire: Inconsistently Characterized?

While all characters in The Good Place get quite a bit of character development, the circumstances for Mindy are noticeable in how they set her in a different light. She is the sole resident of The Medium Place, characterizing her as a kind of mediocre person who's selfish and hedonistic but good-hearted. However, as the metaphysics of the show is more established, this sole resident of The Medium Place is the only person who's avoided eternal damnation in the past millenium. She's not the best person to have existed in that time... except that apparently she is.

The fact that in the Good Place, Mindy St. Claire seems to own exclusively books by Anne Rice in terms of literature is a detail I've always found extremely funny and on point.

Mindy St. Claire
I died and went to Hell (hell was a bland but somewhat cozy townhouse) and they tried to torture me but none of their torture methods worked on me so I decided I had nothing to lose and tried to seduce the Devil (did not work - he is asexual).
