Art Weekend - Mindflower by John Mendelsohn
In many of John Mendelsohn's pieces, he depicts discs with rays of colors projecting from their center. Resembling color wheels, these often have a surprising array of colors and spectruma. The fascination with wheels came from not only study of natural shapes like flowers, but also a dream Mendelsohn had as a child where he saw clockwork wheels and gears turning. He also states that a visit with dying friend who described seeing spinning discs that no one else could see was a strong influence on his later works.

Lyrics that apply to Luis Serra
You're the scar burned into my skin // You're the weight beneath my sin ("Weight Beneath My Sin" by Five Finger Death Punch)
And there's no going back, if I get trapped I'll never heal // Choose a god you think is fair ("Monsters" by Shinedown)
My name is searching since you stole my only soul // It's over, it's over now, you're done wearing me out // You'll be ancient history but who am I right now? ("My Name (Wearing me Out)" by Shinedown)
Am I worthless? Am I filthy? Am I too far gone to be a remedy? // Will you help me because I'm dying to be something more than a memory? // If I reach out, can I trust you? Will you help me see the light of one more day? ("Take the Bullets Away" by We as Human ft. Lacey Sturm)
I can't escape this hell, so many times I've tried, but I'm still caged inside // Help me believe it's not the real me // I can't escape myself, so many times I've lied ("Animal I Have Become" by Three Days Grace)
You may take control by sucking all the hope away // Stripped me of my freedom // Stripped me of my identity // I am sick of my life hanging by a thread ("Puppet" by The Dreaming)
Tell me does it take a war to start a revolution // I see the look in your eye // Hope is a broken battlefield of disillusion // It's gonna take sacrifice ("Antigravity" by RUNGAGROUND)
Chemicals and entropy and all the other things that we make up // Hide and seek, blood and all that it's made of // Chemistry and symmetry and blasphemy, below and above ("Gravedigger" by Gemini Syndrome)
Oh, our flag is tattered, and our bones are shattered // Double vision from the blood we've shed // The only way I'm leaving is dead ("State of My Head" by Shinedown)
I will learn how to live // Dying but standing on my feet // My fate unfolds // It's all getting clear // Lighting the darkness that once set in ("Break Me Out" by Mindflow)
#and please feel free to add to this!!! I love discovering songs!!!#i will do a leon playlist soon i promise#dmsongs#song recs#resident evil#re stuff#resident evil 4#resident evil 4 remake#re4#re4r#luis serra#luis serra navarro

After @seokoilua posted about the My Life, My Music interview (a while ago, this post is partially from my drafts!) I went to relisten to it. And in general it is a very fun interview with a lot of insightful moments about their creation process (Ne Bi Smel in particular) and the mixing process for example. Their voices in general are very soft (in tone, not volume) especially when talking to each other and the vibe is 🥰 I wanted to highlights some of my favourite moments because I want more people to know about them:
2:35 - They talk a bit about doing many concerts in a row and Kris says: "At one point in the summer we had four consecutive days of concerts and the fourth day was already the wors-" (gets cut of by Bojan). Knowing they have now done 7 concerts in 6 days during the nordic tour this is a little funny and a little sad to hear :(
3:59 - Not necessarily a moment but the first song (chosen by Bojan) is Ni Panike by Masayah and I think more people should go listen to Masayah so I'm including it >:)
14:30 - Ne Bi Smel was first called "burning room" and, quoting Bojan, "it couldn't have been more of an Ed Sheeran song." It sounds like the rest was not initially impressed: "and when I brought it to the rehearsal room the boys were like, yeah, hm, yeah no. and I think Jure just started banging on the drums and the guys took on the guitars and started playing some riff."
15:35 - The host asks a question about something they said somewhere else and Bojan and Kris argue a bit about who said that in the first place. It's very cute and my favourite moment is Bojan whispering at the end "I don't think so" because of course he needs to get last word in
21:34 - Hater!Kris returns because apparently he sends "not to appealing" songs to the groupchat?
Kris (about Jet Black Diamonds): The first time that we heard them it was their first single Retro Anorak, and I remember sending over the video to the guys in the group chat and I was like "oh, this is interesting," because usually I send some really… not too- Host: Obscure Kris: No no. Not too appealing Slovenian songs, because- Bojan: Yeah, Kris does that Kris: to be honest there's loads of them and I keep kinda getting them recommended somehow on Facebook or I dunno, it's like a positive feedback loop
Honestly the most surprising thing to me about this is that in the year of our lord 2022 Kris still used Facebook actively enough to stumble across things like that
23:56 - Kris talks about forming Buržoazija and how his guitar instructor recommended Jan: "Jan at that point was really like- I didn't really understand what he was about, he was like an introverted guy, really, also listening to a lot of metal and I was like "okaaay? I guess we'll try?" and then we started to practice and really got along."
25:45 - Luka (Apokalipsa's guitar player) and Martin already knew how to play and Bojan didn't and that's how they decided that he should sing. Also their first performance (also up on youtube, baby Bojči is very cute) was two (2!!) weeks after they started practising together
28:49 - About creating outside of Slovenia
Host: Is there something specific that you haven't yet done that you are desperately keen to do, or is this gonna gently evolve? Bojan: I dunno about the desperately want to do, I guess one thing we "truly desperately want to do" is go out of Slovenia to create. To try a new space. So go to a studio somewhere outside of our borders and see if the mindflow is different there. That is the only thing I can think of right now. Maybe Kris has- Kris: In addition to that, I really wanna see us tour anywhere, anywhere outside of Slovenia" Host: You are beginning to get to the audience already a little bit, […], you can find opportunities Kris: Yes, yes, we are, don't worry about it. We just don't want to talk to much about it yet Bojan: Let's say we're gonna have another interview next year and we're gonna have so much to talk about
This was before Hamburg where they created Carpe Diem and before London and honestly I'm glad they're getting to experience that Erasmus+/semester abroad experience because it's something they really wanted to do and they seem to be enjoying it a lot
#joker out#bojan cvjetićanin#kris guštin#bojan#kris#hater kris is my favourite kris 🥰#hope you don't mind me tagging you seokoilua!

HI JOY please tell me everything about ur latest art :] did u write it yourself!!!!!!! i love the connections btween the wording and the drawings SO MUCH please i love symbolism <3
HELLO HELLO GOOD MORNING!! Wow my& notes are spammed now lol 💙❤️ Yes I& did write it myself, had a moment of sudden inspiration after realizing something I& honestly already forgot. The drawings were improvised to the text I& already had and you can see in the strokes that a lot of it is just pure mindflow.
A little detail I& love is how the words may appear assigned to specific characters or contained within a specific page, but honestly apply all throughout the comic! Like the way the "divide yourself into pieces" line is pretty much the summary and the most important line in my& eyes, or how stars are a recurring motif not unique to Scott.
The character choice for the visuals was most definitely written into the text itself though lol.

One day, the first rational animal had the first idea. What inspired this idea? How was this idea put into action, made from an idea into a work? Something caused the neurons in this rational animal's mind to hit just right, creating the one little spark that would go on to begin the building of all human society we see around us. The inspiration hit his senses, his nervous system sent the information to his brain, his brain processed this information and created an idea using it, then this idea was formulated into instructions sent to the muscles, and the muscles sent this idea out into the physical world in the form of an artistic work. This work then inspired the next idea in the same animal or in another, and the cycle continued.
Regardless of limitation and circumstances, all works and acts are the products of ideas, ideas inspired by something else, usually another work. Thus, the concept of the Infinite Mindflow.
To visualize this, picture two artists facing each other, with a table between them. Artist Alpha creates a work with his hands and places it on the table. This work is observed by Artist Omega, who internalizes it, extracts information from it, turns it into an idea, and then uses his own hands to create a work and place it on the table. Artist Alpha follows this same process, and the flow continues indefinitely. Following the flow from Alpha's hands to his work, from Alpha's work to Omega's senses to his mind to his hands to his work, then from Omega's work to Alpha's senses to Alpha's mind to Alpha's hands, we can draw an infinity symbol, and create a visual design that represents the Infinite Mindflow.
Now, why don't both of these artists create the same thing? If Omega sees Alpha's work, why does it spark a new, unique idea, instead of just inspiring him to recreate Alpha's work? Infinite Mindflow incorporates some of Kant's ideas of how a person's experiences and memories alter how he processes information. Two people can observe the same artistic work and interpret it in completely different ways based on their previous experiences and memories, as well as the circumstances and context in which they observe the work. Perspective alters the flow, and is an integral part of it.

The Ghost:
We loved each other once. I think that could be true. I had placed mindflowers on the grave of that love many times.
Here lies what should have been but never was. Here lies the love of two who were not ready, not practiced, and out of their depth.
Here is buried the hurt with the hurtful, the reaching out and the lashing out. Here lies the undeniable attraction, here lies the opposed needs. Here lies the inevitable, yet somehow never materialized mutual destruction.
Here lies one of the loves of my life. Here lies the possessiveness, the need to adore, the pettiness. Here lies the toxic trauma that blocked the connection.
Here lies the unacknowledged eternal cycle of together again, once more, maybe for the last time. Maybe for the best.
Here lie the desires for what we wanted to be to each other. Here lies the “I Love You” that we couldn’t say. Here lies that time.
But here, she does not lie.
Despite predictions, she lives today.
Happy, healthy? I hope so; even if I suspect it a fool’s hope. She will Always be an addict. But she might have stopped using; I tell myself this while denying certain of her known traits.
I miss her. But I remember her more fondly when she’s a memory.
It’s easier than facing the prick inside me.
“Drive” - The Cars, 1984
I wish I didn’t understand the lyrics and how it felt to write them from personal experience.
