Jikook Week 32 Complete (16/07 -23/07/2024)

Their thirty second week in the military is now complete and time to celebrate this milestone with a look back at this week in 2013.

This was just over a month since their debut and the release of No More Dream and the 2 Cool 4 Skool album. On 17/07 the MV for We are Bulletproof Part 2 was released.

One of their earliest photoshoots, for CeCi magazine, was also published that day. Look at these two cuties.

BTS were in full swing with their vlogs and this week there was one from JK on 18/07 and one from Jimin on 23/07.

Here is JK doing what was supposed to be his solo log. He's sitting, apparently alone, but whose legs are those?.

V comes in after about 10 secs and then after about 30 secs someone stands up and starts dancing, making JK laugh. I think you can guess WHO.

JK goes on to talk about preparing his voice for the next recording and meeting the Dynamic Duo (Choiza and Gaeko) at their broadcast.

He and Jimin high five each other and agree that they'll ask them to go eat when they next meet. Shy boy confidence at a distance.

In Jimin's blog he first recommends and plays Chris Brown's Don't Think They Know featuring Aaliyah.

Then he went on to tell us about his typical non-work day, going to school, practise, making his vlog in the early hours because that is the only time he has. He is talking about his disappointment at the lack of reaction to the BTS debut from his school friends when he has a visitor (about the 1.30 min mark). It could be Tae, Jin or JK. I'm not sure because they never step into the room.

What hits hardest though is how it highlights once again how Jimin is always going to be the one pushing Jimin. He may express it naively in this vlog but it is the way he has pursued his life and career ever since. He will always be striving to be that better version of himself as a performer and a person.

BTS were all living on top of each in the tiny space which was their first apartment. They really had no choice but to get on or get out. Getting the word about them included little peaks, like this, into their chaotic homelife. In this clip they compete to see who is going to get ice cream from the management.

The rest of the time it was non-stop music show appearances and fan signs. On 20/07 they did a live performance of No More Dream.....

and a fan sign event at Itaewon.

They posted on TwiX thanking everyone for attending.

Finally, on 22/07 a teaser for their interview with Cuvismag was released where Jimin gets embarrassed talking about the song he sang for (presumably) his audition. Yoongi was quick to make clear there was no lover in the picture right now. The ever single and theoretically obtainable idol life was just beginning.

˚⊱🪷⊰˚ Being the only female member in a male dominated group (2013-present) ╰┈➤ This one is a given. Being the only female in a mainly male group definitely brought Dahlia lots of backlash and hate. This is probably one of her worst scandals as it still continues even today. She's constantly ridiculed for being the only female and is asked to leave the band on a daily basis. She recieves lots of death threats, slut shaming and other online abuse pretty much everyday. One time some OT7 fans attempted to give her a black ocean during her solo performances. ˚⊱🪷⊰˚ Accused of lip-syncing on stage (2019) ╰┈➤ Alongside the others Dahlia is always being accused by antis of lip-syncing. It's something every kpop idol goes through, and she's no exception. One day though the rumours really got to her. She woke up in a bad mood anyway, so when she went online and saw her name trending on Twitter for lip-syncing she had enough. So that night when she performed, without anybody knowing her next move she stopped singing midway through her verse, looking straight into the stage camera before shrugging her shoulders with a small smile before Jungkook continued on with the next part of the song. ˚⊱🪷⊰˚ Being rude to other idols (2018) It's known around BIGHIT that Lia has a RBF. But this time she really felt the heat of it. BTS were in attendance at the Seoul Music Awards, and Lia had been uncomfortable with her contact lenses all day. Aera suggested that she tries it out for today- but as she was sat in the artist area, lights flashing in her face every few minutes they started to water and itch. She happened to roll her eyes when BLACKPINK were giving their award speech and bad timing- the camera caught it. She was given lots of backlash by Blinks and other netizens. but what people didn't know at the time was that BLACKPINK'S Jennie and Lia were very close friends. Jennie personally went on VLive to address the rumours and put them to rest. Damage: ──── 32%

˚⊱🪷⊰˚ Bullying Scandal (2020) The idea of Lia being a mean girl had been around ever since the Seoul Music Awards incident, but some people never put it to rest. One day an anonymous Twitter account came out with the accusation that Lia was her highschool bully. Immediately this caused Lia to get lots of backlash, some calling for her removal from the group. Without her managements permission she went on Vlive to address the rumours claiming her innocence and that she will be taking legal action for defamation. The company honoured what she said and did take legal action, but Dahlia ended up not pressing any charges after the Twitter account apologised and admitted they made the whole thing up and didn't think it would blow up the way it did. Damage: ──── 66%

˚⊱🪷⊰˚ Dating Min Yoongi (2016-present) Dating in the idol industry was always a taboo subject. Especially when you're the only female in a group. However - this scandal was actually true, but not revealed at the time. During Bangtan's holiday, Yoongi and Lia were seen leaving her family home in Jeju Island. Dispatch caught photos of what seems the two holding hands. Bighit didn't speak on the rumours and neither did the two idols. This only caused ARMY to go crazy and gave them another reason to ship the two idols.

Why I Love BTS<3

BTS, a K-pop group that started out rocky and turned to be a global phenomenon. BTS was formed during 3013, BTS meant Bangtan Sonyeodan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts if translated. There's seven(7) members Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, and Jeon Jungkook.

BTS' fans are called ARMY, which means Adorable Representative M.C for Youth, established on July 9th, 2013. BTS & ARMY are a powerful duo, knocking down awards after awards, hitting number 1# on Billboard everytime, and being loved by many all over the world.

I love BTS and still do, they are my greatest inspiration for youth and good role models. They have given a speech at the UN General Assembly Hall and even performed to promote the need to promote vaccines, the importance of the younger generation and how we can make a difference on issues like climate change. They have made albums that promote self love, promote mental health, etc. I love their way of giving concern to problems such as climate change, pollution, mental health, and racism to the public. BTS has teached me to never give up even if things don't go your way.

Overall, BTS is a power force that should be loved and not be hated by people who are jealous of them, Armies protect BTS and BTS protects Army.

d-day, a conversation of yoongi's artistry ❦

listen, listen, listen.

i know collectively as a fandom we speak about yoongi's artistry, however, i don't think we speak about it enough. or, at least, in a lengthened & deepened conversation. his artistry is something that consistently captivates me time and time again. everything from the concepts he portrays, the lyrics he pulls out, the cinematography he executes, & the stories he embodies to put out for us. everything from point a to b is purely & utterly insane. here, i want to focus on d-day, but first; we need to take it back. way back.

as we know, yoongi has three personas. from 2013 to 2016, it was the two personas of min yoongi, as a person, & suga, as an artist. the 'agust d' persona was officially introduced to us as of august, 2016. this persona held up quite a reputation for being 'savage', 'relentless', & 'outspoken' — & wrongfully so. to simply assume that he is savage or disrespectful for letting out all of his rightfully pent-up emotions as a result of a barrage of hate, is horrible.

"in 2016, we really described us was that we are from living hell because we were attacked by so many different areas and we didn't even know why. 'why do they hate us so much?' that was the thing we focused on. and i was full of anger." — yoongi, road to d-day.

agust d was the persona that yoongi used as a coping mechanism— for many things, really. all the hate, all the internal suffering, all the trauma. agust d was born out of nothing but pure anger & frustration, which we can see through many tracks— agust d, tony montana, daechwita, & what do you think. however, this anger & frustration weren't only directed at external figures, but also directed internally, at yoongi himself. though, it manifested as seeping pain and sadness, instead.

in many ways, agust d was an outlet for all his pent-up emotions & thoughts, yet in many ways, it was holding him back from the things he needed the most. healing & forgiveness. not from others, of course not, but rather— himself.

truthfully, the way he portrayed this was so gut-wrenching & heartbreaking. he perceives his traumas as being caused by himself— hence the self-inflicted scar on his face. his father's liver cancer, which he learnt whilst on a schedule. his mom's heart surgery; from an incredibly young age (three to four years old), yoongi blamed himself for his mother's illness as she developed it after giving birth to him. yoongi's specific memory at this age was of him in his mom's embrace & since felt guilty over him causing it, wondering— "is it right for me to be born?" (beyond the story, 2023.) the shoulder accident he had which he couldn't tell anyone, including his bandmates, at that time in fear of being let go. a torn shoulder that he dealt with for over seven years whilst working full-time, touring often, & regularly doing intense choreography.

throughout yoongi's music videos, there's a repeated motif of killing this scarred version of himself— a key symbol for his attempts to leave the past behind & live in the present. however, undertaking these attempts to do so while not healing or forgiving yourself is a dangerous path to go down. because you'd end up stuck in this endless & vicious cycle of self-torture. in this way, it's like you're continuously indulging in your pain through being unable to forgive yourself & wishing you could undo what happened, though it's out of your control.

something incredibly meaningful to me was how yoongi said d-day was the closing chapter to the agust d trilogy. that it might be hard to see him again, that as he continues to grow older & older, he gets less angry at the world & at himself. the trilogy lasting ten years with a man who's changed for those ten years right alongside it, has come to its blossoming end. a closed chapter to the pain & trauma that held him down all these years.

to those who might not know to yoongi is, or may not understand, i hope you come to the realization as to why people call min yoongi's works a piece of art. because, in his words, there is strength & pain. the kind that gut-wrenchingly bruises & burns without hesitation but offers a lifelong worth of embracement whole in return. the kind that sends crashing ripples & rumbles reverberating through one's chest but offers a delicate hand in return.

min yoongi is truly one of a kind.
