Inspired by this post i would agree that there is a chance that milsiril would probably take care of thistle after the dungeon events

*puts "the goth/emo subcultures could have saved milsiril" in my headcanon pile next to "reality tv and drama youtube could have saved kabru" and "furaffinity could have saved laios"*

Milsiril is definitely the type of mom who would never tolerate people teaching her children swear words

A follow-up comic to the fic I wrote a few days ago, in which Milsiril agrees to take Kabru's ghost back to Utaya to find his mother.
I think that, to other ghosts, ghosts look relatively "normal" or follow the "stuck as the age at which you were the happiest" trope, while to the living they look more aged or decayed depending on how long the body has been dead.

As soon as Kabru said the elf who raised him took in shorter-lived races as a hobby, I thought, "Oh, no. She's treating them as pets."
Sure enough, when we finally get a glimpse of Kabru's childhood with her...
Tumblr media
...she's hand-feeding him cake while insisting he makes cute sounds for her, despite him clearly being old enough and well enough to feed himself. She keeps him in a plush, soft child's room despite him likely being at least on the cusp of being a teenager. She treats him like an abused puppy she's saved from the street, one she wants to spare from all knowledge of pain or suffering, one she expects to gratefully put aside all thoughts of their past trauma and embrace a charmed, safe lifestyle where nothing is ever likely to hurt them again.
But Kabru is not a puppy. He is not a pet. He's barely a child.
I don't know about the other children she's taken in, so I don't know if Kabru's older than the ones she usually gets or if he just lived a more impoverished/jaded life before or if he's just very determined (or a combination of the three), but he's not someone who wants to forget. He's the type who's incapable of overlooking all that's happened to him and the people he knew and especially his real mother. He doesn't want to pretend none of that happened. He wants to do something so it never happens again to anyone else.
It's implied he got a bit scraped up here because he was training with swords, and she's using this opportunity to try and dissuade him from continuing that path, but he's having none of it.
Tumblr media
He does manage to convince her he means what he says, but this also seems to drastically affect the dynamic between them (or, more accurately, the dynamic she's forced them into). From that point on, the training sessions aren't simply more serious. They're designed to scare, and perhaps even to punish. If her little puppy is going to insist on being a guard dog rather than a pampered house pet, then she's going to make sure he knows he's asking for the wrong thing.
It might seem like a bit of a kindness at first; after all, dungeon delving is absolutely dangerous, and it doesn't benefit one to train pretending it's not. But the fact is, Kabru comes out of it not being that great at dungeon delving. He learns this early on and does his best to try and partner with stronger teams, but he's not even particularly great at that, as we've already seen his party get wiped out multiple times.
Kabru's smart. He knows and admits he's not as strong as he'd like to be. But he was raised for a not insignificant time by the Vice Captain of the Canaries. You would think that would result in him having an edge on other adventurers. But she wasn't interested in teaching him. The lessons were, by her own admission, only ever meant as a deterrent. They were never intended to teach him the actual skills he might need to survive in a dungeon.
