Listen, I’ve had a filmy weekend, okay? First my friends got engaged and threw a party, then my other friend and I had a sleepover and binged The Romantics, and on top of that, I think I’ve watched five other different Bollywood movies this weekend and I need to channel this energy somehow so please enjoy my explanations for casting BTS in these 2010s Bollywood rom-coms which I hope one day me (or anyone else) can turn into fics thank you very much

Ok, let’s begin:

Kim Namjoon - Baar Baar Dekho

Listen, I know this movie was critically panned? Do I fucking care? No. I love this movie, I would go to war for this movie because Sidharth and Katrina induce massive amounts of bi panic within me. I love Jai and Diya, I love their love, I love the time travel, I love Kala Chashma. So that’s why I’m choosing none other than Bangtan’s resident intellectual Mr. Namjoon to fill those shoes, okay? Namjoon’s expressed his own profound thoughts about marriage, just like Mr. Jai, and him as a genius mathematician who gets caught in a time loop. Drooling

Kim Seokjin - Hasee Toh Phasee

Again, I would d word for this movie bc it’s just so??!!! My crush on Sidharth Malhotra non-withstanding, this movie is chaotic and beautiful in the best way. It doesn’t try to be flashy or suave, and instead embraces its inner dork. Who does that remind you of, huh? Mr. Kim Seokjin, that’s fuckin who. Nikhil and Meeta just give major OTP vibes, him being a through and through himbo and her being a neurodivergent genius who he can’t help simping over!! Give me Seokjin and OC causing major chaos I beg! And put Zehnaseeb on in the background while you’re at it!

Min Yoongi - Khoobsurat

Am I biased bc I’m Pakistani? Am I biased bc it’s Fawad? Maybe, maybe not! But to quote Lizzie McGuire, this is what dreams are made of!! An off-beat physiotherapist meets a tsundere prince?? And he gradually warms up to her while they get into their own royal shenanigans? You can’t tell me this role wasn’t written for Yoongi, and long haired Yoongi specifically. The grumpy x sunshine trope is super strong with this one, and I love the brightness that Milli brings to the entire family, not just the prince. The Disney movie of everyone’s dreams <3

Jung Hoseok - Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Listen, this movie doesn’t get enough credit for just being fun the entire way through!! The comedy is top-tier and the characters are just so likeable and wholesome!! And just this big, amazing hare-brained matchmaking effort that is so Bollywood!! And Imran Khan’s Kush being in love with Katrina’s Dimple, who is definitely bisexual (Dhunki, anyone?!). It’s giving King Hobi vibes, not only because he would go out of his way to do anything for someone he loved, but also because Choomantar is definitely siblings with Daydream and I need to see him bust it down to Do Dhaari Talwar thank you for coming to my TED Talk

Park Jimin - Aisha

Let’s all agree that Gal Mitthi Mitthi Bol is a banger, and then let’s all swoon over Jimin in this adaptation which is based on Emma!! I literally can’t decide if I want Jimin in Aisha or Arjun’s role, but it’d be so fun either way!! I kinda like the idea of him trying to set up all his guy friends and them just being such a fun group who all have their own individual love stories sighhhh. And OC being Arjun who’s all no nonsense and the grounding presence in Jimin/Aisha’s life!! Also the style in this movie was inspired by Clueless, and our mans models for Dior so that’s enough for me to want to make it happen

Kim Taehyung - I Hate Luv Storys

Fun fact - I once watched this movie instead of studying for an exam that was happening at the end of the weekend and had so much fun I passed out on my friend’s couch until 3pm the next day!! This is another one of those nostalgic movies that pays homage to all the fun romantic Bollywood tropes!! And all the DDLJ references made me totally think Taehyung! Except he’s not Jay, he’s Simran, and OC will be Jay, and Taehyung has to convince her to believe in romance!! I think that’s a fitting task for the man I consider to be the most romantic member of Bangtan (he’s SRK’s Korean incarnation imo)

Jeon Jungkook - Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

If there’s one himbo I stan, it’s Humpty Sharma. If there’s another himbo I stan, it’s Jungkook. I literally have a severe emotional attachment to this movie and could probably quote most of the lines to you. What I love about this is how Humpty literally shatters all the stereotypes about toxic masculinity - he cries, he’s vulnerable, he believes in love. It just screams bby boi Jungkook vibes. Also pls him doing the most to get Kavya her wedding lehenga - that’s some of the cutest shit Bollywood has pulled in a while and I’m 10000% here for it (pls bring in Jimin and Tae as Shonty and Poplu too)

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

found family is the first that springs to mind!! mostly in oh, captain! with the main gang but also in collide, hello sunshine and oculus. actually tbh there's found family in every fic of mine if you look hard enough. also one of my absolute favourite tropes is 'person a thinks they're a monster and person b loves them anyway' bc that shit makes me FERAL.

18. If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it involve?

imma pick 'oh captain!' for this one bc it's the only fic i've got where i would consider writing a sequel that could stand as its own thing, and not just as a oneshot?? that's actually not just true i just remembered one of my star wars fics is a literal sequel and it would follow the main gang in their years post-hogwarts, megan & cedric's fertility issues, megan reconnecting with her family and healing that religious trauma, millie & cece's eventual divorce, it would just be healing and i'd fucking love it.

22. Who is your favorite character in [insert fic] and why?

okay imma go with my star wars fics for this one bc it's one of my few fics with multiple ocs. and my favourite is absolutely marya. she is a deliciously complex character in a situation where there's not a clear solution, and all the 'morally superior' characters see her as the villain when she's literally just a girl trying to make sure her brother isn't manipulated and murdered and it's so fucking painful i adore her so much

A small letter from Val ➸ 2020 was really an unpredictable year. I had a really bad time with some family arguments as well with school. But is amazing how one small thing made my year SO BRIGHT. Blaise laughed, slapping his thigh. 'This,' he said in between bouts of laughter, 'is exactly what she meant. Normally, a stinging hex would have been your answer.'

'On the contrary,' Daphne said, picking the cigarette out of Millie's mouth. 'If the Gryffindors have had any influence on him, he would have physically tackled you both.'

'That's more like it,' Draco nodded.

Nobody said anything for a while. They were enjoying a very rare, much awaited and incredibly precious Slytherin-only gathering in a small clearing in the Forbidden Forest. It had been almost impossible to not have some Gryffindor hanging off their shoulders for two months now what with the lions accompanying them everywhere from showers to classes, but that day, Granger had Arithmancy for her afternoon class. Longbottom had volunteered to help Prof. Sprout weed out the greenhouses and Weasley and Potter had gone to Diagon to the joke shop. Ginevra and Lovegood were at the quidditch trials, which left the Slytherins with a golden opportunity.

Unlike rumours and speculations, the Forbidden Forest, had a cheerful air about it, though slightly dark with the thick canopy. The five of them sat in a circle under a bubble of protective charms, sharing a joint and blowing out smoky rings, or as in Pansy's case, trying to. An idle, and clearly out of place bird, was humming a sweet tune. There was the occasional rustling of leaves and the half growl and half bark of some as yet unencountered forest animal but Draco was relaxed.

Draco and Potter's dynamic had undoubtedly changed ever since Potter got that dragon lily tattoo on Halloween, even though Potter's behaviour towards him didn't. He still went to classes with Draco and sat next to him, partnering him in Charms, Potions and DADA. No one had mentioned anything about the tattoo in the two weeks since and Draco wasn't a fool to harbour hope that they didn't understand its significance too. He wasn't going to talk about it for as long as he could.

'Muggles celebrate Thanksgiving in November,' Blaise said, inhaling deeply. 'On the fourth Thursday, to be exact.'

'What is it for?' Millie's tone was curious.

'To be grateful to the good things or people that happened to them that year? Mother says Muggles cherish it a lot.'

'How's Maine? Is it suiting her?' Pansy asked.

'She says that's where she's going to settle down but that is what she said of Milan too so I wouldn't bet on it.'

Daphne's brows were furrowed. 'Why are you telling us about this Thanksgiving?' That girl was quick and sharp, no matter how clueless she sometimes acted to be.

'Well,' Blaise said, licking his lips, 'we should thank them too, don't you think?'

It had been easy for Draco to get a first edition copy of Rare Charms and Unique Spells for Granger, a chocolate frog card made in honour of Fred Weasley for Weasley and his sister and an assorted collection of Celestina Warbeck's classics for Longbottom, who loved them and transferred some of his admiration for her onto Blaise as well.

Pansy, Daphne and Millie had got some trinkets, rings and other accessories for all the girls while Blaise imported an Italian Bellflower plant for Neville. The purchases were all made through owl-post, from stores suggested by Narcissa Malfoy, under the name of Madame Zabini.

Draco curiously couldn't think of the best gift to Potter, though Potter was the one he knew the best out of everyone else. He decided he would ask Potter what he wanted but as the days passed, either Draco or Potter found themselves otherwise busy, to say more than "hey" to each other.

Draco sighed and shrugged. There was nothing he could do.

Thanksgiving dawned on them, abnormally cold and cloudy. Draco woke up late from a fitful sleep and didn't even have time to overthink if the atmosphere outside was setting the tone to what was to unfold that day.

Daphne had done that for him, however, whining every possible minute she could about how potentially disastrous the others could think their gifts were. Pansy and Blaise, in their attempts to find courage in liquor since they seemed to lack it in themselves, added to it after stumbling into the common room drunk, half an hour later than the time they had fixed.

Even then, Draco was glad when they had all assembled.

'So,' he began, fidgeting with his shirt, 'Blaise told us, technically it was Blaise's mother, that muggles celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November and well,' he gulped, ' well,' he licked his lips, 'we just..'

'Here are the gifts, bitches!' Pansy screamed, wand shooting confetti into the air as she twirled, tripped and fell over the neatly wrapped presents. 'Oops,' she said, grinning up at them with a dazed look in her eyes.

The stress of worrying his brains over the small surprise that lit up the faces of everyone present, finally melted away the stress beneath his skin. Draco wasn't even aware that he was beaming until Blaise knocked him on the shoulder, sloshed and swaying.

'You've become a sap, Draco,' he slurred.

'And you, a Hufflepuff,' Draco retorted, grinning wider, because yes, this group of unlikely people made each other smile to the maximum.

'I don't want to see all of your teeth, Draco.'

'I don't want to see you bouncing like a toddler either.'

'I'm in full control of myself, thanks.'

Draco had to give him a once over then. 'Yes, I can see that.'

'Are you two arguing over who is better at pretending to be the least affected by our reaction?' Lovegood's sweet voice wafted from behind them followed, an instant later, by her floral perfume and then a smacking kiss to their cheeks.

Weasley and his sister came up to them next, eyes shimmering. They held up Fred's chocolate frog card that read "one half of the only two who managed to set off fireworks in the Great Hall and literally got away with it." That had been Draco's personal addition. He would never forget Umbridge's horror at that.

'This,' Weasley choked.

'Means a lot,' Ginevra said, barely keeping it together. 'Excuse me,' she whispered and then she was exiting the common room, Draco's eyes trained on her till the door shut behind her.

When he turned back, he found Potter staring at him and he blushed, remembering that he hadn't got anything for him.

Potter held up the broom polish from Blaise and a few shirts from the girls as if to ask, 'you?'

'I didn't know what to get for you,' Draco mumbled, rocking on his heels. Behind Potter he spotted a radiant Granger hugging Weasley and talking his ear off about the book in her hand.

'If-' Draco said, glancing back at Potter, 'tell me what you want and I'll get it. For you.'

'Anything?' Potter asked, a small smile playing on his lips.

'Yes, anything.' Draco didn't know how his voice sounded so confident.

'Well,' Potter smirked, 'I want to see the sun, make the clouds go away.'

Draco thought for a while and smiled back. 'Be ready, then.'

Next morning found them both racing through the sky on their brooms at four am.

'Is this revenge, Malfoy?' Potter shouted when they landed on the hill, wet and shivering from the rain falling at Hogwarts.

'Why, scared Potter?' He called back.

'You wish!'

They sat next to each other on a boulder, Draco making them face a certain point in the sky.

'I can't see anything there,' Potter grunted.

'Not yet,' Draco murmured.

'Where are we anyway? Why isn't there snow here?'

'Shut up and watch, Potter.'

And watch they did as the sky lightened and the sun rose in a golden hue. Potter was dumbstruck.

Draco laughed at his expression, wrapping one arm around Potter's shoulder. It was instinctual but Draco had never initiated it before. He froze until Potter leaned into him, resting his head on Draco's shoulder.

'Do you know why I like the November sun?' He asked quietly. 'It shines brighter than in May. There's something about the warmth of the wintry sun, don't you think?' Potter looked up at him.

Draco's gaze was hooked onto the way the emerald orbs were reflecting the sunlight, brimming with satisfaction.

'Yes,' Draco whispered, not looking away. 'The sunshine is brighter.'

Another Top 10 Male TV Characters (In no particular order)

I posted something like this before but I added some favorite characters and I had to get my feelings down in writing :) You can read my other post, but in summation, the characters I mentioned before were: Gilbert Blythe, Lenny Bruce, Logan Echolls, Mike Wheeler, Steve Harrington, Shawn Spencer, Burton Guster, Stanley Barber, Luke Danes, and Jim Hopper.

Pacey Witter (Dawson’s Creek)

I’ve found that my top 3 favorite male characters have something in common. They’re all funny men with a deep sadness underneath. Logan Echolls, Gilbert Blythe, and Pacey Witter. Pacey is such a kind guy. He is so caring and comforting. He is also so funny, snarky, and sarcastic. But then there is that vulnerability that he has and it’s so appealing. Pacey is this strange combination of complete confidence but also having a strong streak of insecurity. There’s this scene in season 1 where Pacey opens up to Joey and tells this story of how when he was 8 years old he lost a game of baseball and his father yelled and screamed at him and called him a disgrace. The next day he overheard him tell Pacey’s brother about the events and his father said “at least I have you.” The way that Joshua Jackson delivers that is so heartbreaking and makes you want to give him a hug. Joey and Pacey are far and above the most entertaining and interesting characters in all of Dawson’s Creek.

Jim Halpert (The Office)

Jim is such an important part of The Office in my opinion. He's the type of character that all those mockumentaries need. There are so many crazy characters and they need some normal characters that you can relate to. Yet Jim is also far from boring. He's hilarious and an extremely entertaining part of the show. Also John Krasinski is the freakin best :)

Ben Gross (Never Have I Ever)

Ben  Gross is another character like Logan and Pacey who is funny and yet also has a deep sadness beneath all of it. You really don't start the season feeling too much sympathy for his character. Though I don't believe it's right to demonize Ben more than Devi. When the show starts they are very antagonistic to each other and they both say hurtful things to each other. But when Ben starts caring about Devi, he does not look back. Ben would do anything for her, even drive in bumper to bumper traffic even though he's terrified of it. In episode 6, we see Ben's home life for the first time. That's when collectively so many people started to feel immeasurably sad for Ben. He puts forth this facade at school, but we find he just a sad and lonely boy who deserves all the love in the world.

Nick Miller (New Girl)

Nick Miller is iconic. There's a reason that he was trending on Twitter 9 years after New Girl began and 2 years after it ended. I could never find the reason he was trending aside from the fact that he some classic and iconic lines and a lot of people are discovering the wonderful world of loving Nick Miller. Nick is an absolute gem and in my opinion the best character in New Girl.

Maxwell Smart (Get Smart)

Maxwell Smart is such a deservedly beloved TV character. Max and Get Smart are so important. So many of Max's lines have entered the English lexicon and taken on lives of their own, such as "Would you believe...," "Missed it by that much," "Sorry about that Chief," and "I asked you not to tell me that." He's hilarious and no can play him as well as Don Adams.

Lucas Sinclair (Stranger Things)

Lucas is such an underappreciated character. On Youtube there is next to no tributes to his character. He's always been amazing but season 3 really brought him up to a new level for me. Lucas saved the day at the end of the season. I would also say that El's humanity and how she got through to Billy helped save the day. But it was Lucas' idea to use fireworks on the monster and that was huge. Plus he had the heroes entrance. When they reveal who is throwing the fireworks and Lucas says "Flay this, you ugly piece of shit!!" It's a truly iconic line for an iconic character. Actually Lucas continually saved everyone's asses in Season 3. Also he's so funny... especially in season 3. I feel like the writers did a good job of shining a light on Lucas and giving a lot more to do. I love that we got to see Mike and Lucas' friendship as well, we've heard so much about it in past seasons, but to finally see the friendship in action was supremely important.

Dustin Henderson (Stranger Things)

Dustin is a precious ball of sunshine and must be protected at all costs. He has the sweetest smile and the kindest heart. He’s also a literal genius. If your ever in a bad mood just google his name it’s just what you need to brighten your day :) Side note. Gaten is a comedic genius already!!

Winston Bishop (New Girl)

Winston Bishop AKA Prank Sinatra!!! Lamorne is such an amazing addition to New Girl. There are so many classic Winston moments, like his love of “puzzling.” His inability to do a prank without going way overboard or not going far enough. I also love the scene where he gets the glasses that counteract his color blindness, his excitement at seeing different colors for the first time is so pure!!

Jerry Helper (The Dick Van Dyke Show)

Jerry Helper is such a dynamic person and a lot of that is thanks to the fact that Jerry Paris (who plays him) is so dynamic. I think the saddest thing about TDVDS is that Jerry had less of a big part of show as it went on, because Jerry Paris became the main director of the show. It was his dream to be a director, so i’m happy for him, but it just means that he directed more of the episodes and acted in less of them. Jerry and Millie were perfect for each other, they were both such entertaining people and I loved their relationship on the show. In a lot of shows there’s always the token couple who seems to hate each other and fight bitterly. Jerry and Millie were the type of couple who fought all the time, but the unique part is they truly love each other as well. The way it’s written you get the impression that they fight passionately but they also make up passionately.... do I need to write Jerry and Millie fanfiction? I think I do ;) Side note: were Jerry and Millie the first couple on TV to go to marriage therapy? I feel like they were, which is another way that The Dick Van Dyke Show was ahead of it’s time.

Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli (Happy Days)

The fucking Fonz!!!!! Icon!!!!! I don’t think there has ever been a more iconic character in all of television. It’s been said that after The Fonz talked about getting a library card in an episode the amount of library cards being issued spiked dramatically. Supposedly the library association said that it spiked by 500%, whether or not that exact amount is correct, it points to just how popular The Fonz was. His leather jacket is in The Smithsonian museum. But the The Fonz is not just cool, he’s also an extremely interesting character. Sadly he was abandoned by his father and by the sounds of it also his mother. He was largely raised by his grandmother since the age of 6. He dropped out of high school and he joined a gang. Fonzie is an incredible man and he adopted a son out of wedlock because he wanted to give a kid a better childhood than what he had. He truly was a symbol of kindness and he was the coolest fucking character to ever exist. He was a proponent of civil rights and advocate for people with disabilities, and he even learned sign language so that he could communicate with a woman who was hearing impaired. Henry Winkler was nominated 3 times for that role. Since then Henry has gone on to other amazing roles. He had a part in Arrested Development, he plays Jean Ralphio’s father in Parks And Recreation. And most recently he finally won a much deserved Emmy for his role in “Barry.”

Liveblog: Rewatching Trigun, Episode 19

I like this episode even though the villains here are a real letdown after the Gung Ho Guns. I’m sure none of you are surprised.

Poor Meryl is still having nightmares about the hole in the fifth moon. It’s affecting her performance at work.

Of course Meryl’s obnoxious coworker’s name is Karen. 

There’s a very 1990s contrast between our smart, brave, somewhat androgynous looking heroine and this Barbie-doll-pretty, makeup and high-heels wearing, and of course much taller lady. “That attitude gets all the dangerous jobs...there’s no way you’ll ever achieve womanly happiness.” Just pretend to be incompetent and then you’ll get a man and be happy ever after. ::retches into the closest receptacle:: 

“How did it make you feel?” ...Really?

Millie sounds so excited about being punished by cleaning the window. I’m telling you, she’s a literal ray of sunshine.

Late 20 times in a row? Millie must have the worst case of ADHD and no way of waking herself up in the morning. Someone get that girl an alarm clock.

Meryl, your fake anger is even less convincing than usual.

Wolfwood is awful at desert travel. Vash was either brave or suicidal to journey with him. Wolfwood blames Vash, of course. 

Okay, I can see why @badwolferosewrites​ thinks they’re fighting like siblings. If said siblings were on a synchronized swimming team or something. Great comic relief.

Vash says he wants to go to a different town than their ultimate destination. A town where trouble is about to be brewing. This is why I think Vash has the plant equivalent of a “spidey sense” for trouble. How? Headcanons welcome.

Meryl sounds almost proud of Vash and his reputation.

“That’s ridiculous! When I saw him, he was weeping and eating piles of donuts at the same time.” Classic line. Vash must have been miserable. Why was he eating his feelings this time?

The radio announcer sounds like Vash did when he was trying to run everyone out of town a few episodes back.

“It’s not like it’s anything new, this kind of thing happens all the time. Even the most peaceful folk take up arms all the time if someone happens to threaten or kill a family member.” Wolfwood describes Gunsmoke in a nutshell. Being only human, he just accepts it and moves on with life. Considering that this happens in every town, pretty much all the time, and Vash takes responsibility for all of it, how does he decide where to intervene, and how does he make peace with the fact he can’t be in multiple places at once? (Or does he?).

“I’ve always had my suspicions you were no mere mortal, but I never imagined you were actually...a cat.” XD And of course Vash runs off and leaves Wolfwood with the tab. Rude.

“Let’s enjoy the peace while it lasts.” Famous last words. Millie knows it. But even for dramatic irony, that was fast.

Vash is such a sweetheart that even the Grumpiest Old Man is glad to see him. <3

I love how everyone gathers around the site of the sandsteamer crash and hostage situation as if they couldn’t be pelted by stray bullets any time. As if it were just a show to them. Wonder how often they’ve observed scenes like this?

Best Wolfwood quote. Actually, one of the best quotes in the anime. I think he’s right. That said, this only supports Vash’s idea that we shouldn’t be the ones to decide who lives or dies.

You know Wolfwood’s troubled by the way he looks like he’s smoking, but the cigarette just dangles out of his mouth. We saw him do this in Episode 11 while deciding whether to go after Milly and the runaways.

“You people aren’t human!” That sounds like Steve... (Even on Earth, dehumanizing people like this is one of the most common ways we justify killing people, or locking them away permanently).

TBH, I don’t think Vash is very convincing. No moral or emotional arguments, just pleading. And letting himself be beaten up. I don’t get it, why does that work?

“You could never understand how I feel?” Wanna bet? In some sense, Vash feels responsible for everyone on Gunsmoke almost as if they were his children, and he watches them kill each other every day.

“The twelve idiots, myself included, were set free.” Ha.

“You’ve got to learn to take care of yourselves. Luck and persistence won’t last forever.” Then you’d be pleased to know how the insurance girls got themselves out of trouble this time. As for Vash, he additionally relies on cleverness, reflexes, using his reputation to manipulate people, and gunslinging skills.

...Um, Wolfwood, surely your mission isn’t over. Where are you going?

Aw, Meryl actually being nice to Vash for once. The ensuing conversation is pretty awkward, though. Not even a friendly greeting? Poor Meryl.  There continues to be 0 visible chemistry between them.

Ok, I’m finally allowing myself to answer all of your awesome questions and I’m so sorry it took this long!! @scarletkaf

For anyone curious about what all of this is in reference to, a couple of weeks ago I (as BE-A5) responded to Scarlet’s comment on the Magical MV with some information about the members. If you’d like to read what I wrote, check here and here.

To understand why K-MUCH’s lack of success is not Honggyu’s fault, the first thing you have to understand is that he hasn’t always been the group’s leader. When K-MUCH initially debuted in 2014, they followed Crayon Pop’s example and decided not to have a formal leader at all. It wasn’t until months after they’d begun promoting that a casual mention was made (on Twitter, if I remember correctly) that Honggyu had been made the official leader of the group (and you’re right, he absolutely is a great one). 

As for the backstory, you have to know a little bit about Chrome Ent’s and K-MUCH’s history. The company was founded and run by CEO Hwang who had no knowledge of the entertainment industry at all (and didn’t/doesn’t even listen to pop music, he prefers classical). He happened to see a performance by T-ARA and was inspired to debut his own girl group; thus Crayon Pop was born. 

Unfortunately, due to his lack of knowledge, Crayon Pop’s first year was a complete failure and they resorted to promoting themselves through guerrilla performances on the streets of Seoul as well as cultivating a close relationship with their fans and the regular uploading of their Crayon Pop TV series. As everyone knows, Crayon Pop eventually hit it big with their Bar Bar Bar in June 2013 and as a result they saved Chrome Entertainment from going bankrupt and shutting down.

Flash forward to the end of 2013, K-MUCH had already been announced to the media and were promoting themselves by performing cover dances at various middle schools around the country. Let me re-state that: barely 6 months after being on the brink of bankruptcy, CEO Hwang announced his intention to debut another idol group and have them promote regularly. 

Anyways, they formally debuted with a different version of Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar with a name that translates to “Northern Snakehead Fish” and, thanks to all the attention from being Crayon Pop’s little brother group, did relatively well for themselves. They had regular appearances on the music shows, over 3,000 cafe members in the first 3 months, their entire debut mini album entered the Top 100 on MelOn, and they regularly appeared in the top 10 live search rankings.

They promoted their debut mini album for 3 to 4 months (so January until April/Mayish, there was never a formal end) and began preparing for their followup that summer featuring self-compositions (it was around this time that Honggyu was made the leader). Suddenly out of nowhere however, CEO Hwang announced that Chrome would be debuting another new group, Bob Girls. And then less than a week later...Chrome debuted another group, Zan Zan.

Again, let me re-state. Between June 2013 and June 2014, Chrome went from being days away from financial disaster to having debuted not one new group but three.

It was during this time that CEO Hwang sent K-MUCH to Japan to hold somewhat regular concert series during which they performed the only 3 songs they’d released + 1 unreleased self-composition. With the comeback being pushed back twice (once in July, again in August), Loki eventually stopped promotions with the group and officially withdrew in September. At this point, they had effectively disappeared from the Korean pop scene and their cafe membership dwindled. 

Between February and March 2015 K-MUCH suddenly released 2 new songs as pre-releases to their first full album. Both of these songs were a huge departure from their established sound and were not promoted at all. The full album, however, never surfaced and K-MUCH was once again sent to Japan to hold their concert series. By this time Bob Girls had disbanded, Zan Zan weren’t actively promoting, and Crayon Pop had just comeback with FM. 

K-MUCH spent the rest of 2015 resuming their hiatus until they eventually had their first comeback with Tie My Hands, 1 year and 10 months after debuting. This song was more in line with their pre-release sounds but still very different from the dance music they’d debuted with. The company put some effort into promotions, but eventually they ended things after about a month and a half. Once again, K-MUCH was on hiatus.

I’ll end the lesson here because that brings us to 2016 which was a big year for Chrome (during which their hiatus continued but it was less because of their company and more because of happenstance). If you read all of that, what I hope you understand is that K-MUCH were literally never given a chance to succeed by their former CEO. They started off strong and were considered a hot debut for the 2014 year, but bad decision after bad decision made by their company as well as what I personally feel is a degree of sabotage ensured that they would never succeed. Honggyu as the leader expressed his frustration with his former CEO on multiple occasions and always made sure to know what the group was up to in regards to releasing music, but the company just never followed through on any of their plans and the fans were constantly left hanging. 

I’m getting emotional and I could literally talk about this subject for days so I’ll move on to your other questions now hahaha. 

Yeongkyun technically does have an official position as being a sub-vocal, but the reason I said he doesn’t is because from the time of debut he has always been the member to bounce around the most. For one song he will be a sub-vocal while for another he’ll be a rapper and at the same time he is one of the 2 dancers in the group but he is never given an opportunity to showcase his talents (outside of his personal Instagram). He’s even mentioned it previously that he doesn’t seem to have a set position within the group because, while he is a talented vocalist, rapper, and dancer, the other members are more skilled than he and thus are the mains/leads. 

MiLLY is indeed a ball of sunshine and one of the things I appreciate the most about him is how hard he works to improve himself. When he first debuted he mentioned that he didn’t think he was a good rapper and that he actually liked singing more (but he just wasn’t suited for it professionally) and now, 3 years later he’s practiced and improved his voice so much that he sings entire verses in the Magical Realism album in addition to his rap verses.

Ato is originally from Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. He lived there until he was 19, so basically about 6 months before he debuted with K-MUCH. He also has a lisp which means translating him while subbing videos is..interesting... 

Lastly, BomB is so easy to love it’s almost ridiculous. As I said in my initial comment he’s still so new that we don’t know nearly as much about him as we do the other members (of course, we have 3 years on them vs. a few months with BomB) but from what I’ve seen in both the Korean fandom and the international one everyone has embraced him completely. The members already love him so much and adding him into the group seems to have given them a whole new burst of energy that they haven’t had for years.

Sigulda Having pretty much seen the main attractions of Riga over the past two days, we decided to explore further afield. Sigulda is 33 miles away from Riga and just over an hour by train. With it only costing just €3.50 return for both of us, it's a bargain. We left and arrived to sunshine, stopping a few times along the way at tiny stations picking up one or two people as we entered the Gauja National Park. Initially we picked up a map and two guides from the tourist office that had a detailed walking route...we thought. By the first sight a park of walking sticks, for which there is quite a trade as these are made here, there were a few options for which way to walk. We kind of went our own way and found stairs leading down to the river. From here again there were many options, so what we think we saw may not be way we did, however, if it said castle or cave we saw it but maybe not the right ones in the right order. We walked the serpentine path then some stairs, in fact a lot of stairs to reach Krimulda Castle ruins and then Krimulda Manor. Luckily nearby was Millie cafe and with a coffee, cake and ice cream inside us (all essential for exploring) we continued. We saw a spring, got lost, walked halfway down a hill, back up it from a different angle, then back down it via lots of stairs. On the way seeing Turaida Castle in the distance. We came face to face with nature as a snake crossed our path, literally. One of the first things we saw was a small cave and then a other, which we think was Maza cave. We definitely reached Gutmanala cave, as the sign said so. An impressive cave with inscriptions dating back to the 17th century. From here after a brief meander we saw a set of stairs and decided to climb them. This led to both Mound Rata and Mound Karla and maybe even Mount Tauretaju, we saw them all but in which order we could not say as there were no signposts. By now feeling the burn we descended and recrossed the river. At the beginning we saw signs for the bobsleigh track and wanted to see this, but along the way we came across Adventure Park Tarzan, an outdoor adventure park. For only €3 you can go up in a chairlift and come back down on the toboggan run at 40 kmh. So we both did that along the 400 metre course, which was great fun. After watching others do this and other activities, we set off for the base of the bobsleigh track to find that all was locked up. Undeterred we went back up for €1 on the chairlift and walked half a mile to get to the bobsleigh track. For 60c you could go up in the lift to the 5th floor, view the whole track and stand on the start. We even got to sit in a bobsleigh, though sadly it is only weekend when you are allowed to go down in one. All to soon our day was done and we left on the train back to Riga. We would both say that if you do come to the capital for a long weekend it is well worth coming out to see what Sigulda has to offer, it will be a busy day but well worth it!
