please tell us what you have to say about pre-calamity characters. I ate up your analysis on the Akkala citidel.
Oh my gosh wait that’s so nice of you thank you! I fear you may be underwhelmed cos that post was probably the best work I’ve ever done or ever will do lol. I do LOVE all the little people who live in my head though so I shall share some of them :)
My first and possibly favourite is Dilia who lives rent free in my head as the castle Royal Head Librarian. He's Hylian and about in late 20s to early 30s. Any sensible library's gonna have library staff and so I created him as part of that. I imagine there's also about five or six additional librarians as well under his leadership who help with organising the books and keeping the place all neat and tidy :) He was also brought on a bit because I got to thinking about how much time Zelda probably spent in the library researching ancient technology. I like to think she came to trust him as she grew up and saw him as like a cool older brother or uncle figure :) My guy probably had his role as castle librarian passed down to him by his mother or father, so he's lived there his whole life and knows all there is to know about the histories of Hyrule. He's a walking font of knowledge and I definitely think he and the court poet have compared notes before on the events of the first Great Calamity. He's got a penchant for forgetting the castle library hours and leaving it open well into the night because he's gotten too comfy at his desk and forgot to check the time periodically lol He's just a big ol nerd and I love him deeply, and so he got to survive the Calamity and move to Kakariko Village because I don't want him to die horribly.
I also, while we're on the subject, LOVE the court poet. He's not an OC, but he's an integral part of the world that I think about him enough to have headcanoned him to life lol. I read 'A Hylian Romance' by sillythings on Ao3, and he's called Chanson in that so that's what I call him XD I absolutely LOVE this because regular royal courts would have some person who is purely there to entertain the lords and ladies at banquets and meetings and the like. And so rather than have a Fool, they had Chanson. I love thinking about this witty, sassy guy who would have been the SINGULAR person in the castle allowed to openly insult King Rhoam to his face and not get executed for it (such was the privilege of court Fools and Poet).
The next one requires a bit of my personal thoughts on the rank system for the Hyrule military, but I'll TRY to keep it brief. Basically, we see soldiers' weapons, knights' weapons, royal guards' weapons, and royal weapons in-game. I was thinking about the training facilities in Hyrule Castle itself, and there's really not a whole lot there. It's mostly indoors as well, which isn't ideal for maximum army training. HOWEVER! Outside of the castle grounds we see the Military Training Camp (obviously), the Akkala Citadel, and the Coliseum. MY personal theory is that the Coliseum is actually another combat training camp rather than a coliseum for entertainment and I'll have to make a post on THAT after this to explain why lol ANYWAY! That tells me that the Hyrulean military force was sort of ranked Soldier -> Knight -> Royal Guard -> Royal Family. The soldiers probably trained at the Military Training Camp because of how little we see of stone ruins. It wasn't made as sturdily as the Castle, Akkala Citadel, or Coliseum, and thus would be fitting of the lowest ranked fighters to train there. Rauru Settlement is right there, and so I think that was where most of the soldiers and their families lived, and I just LOVE the idea of all the bright-eyed young people of Hyrule coming from all over the kingdom to train under the banner of the crown together. And they spend the entire day working their BUTTS off training in this new, grueling regiment that's kind of made to weed out anyone less dedicated (like bootcamp essentially), and then hurry home back down the hill to sit by a fire together and dance and enjoy eachothers' company.
(side note, I think Hylians are a very musical race. Not for any particular reason other than I love the idea of fun Hylian festivals) Let's seeeee, et me rapid fire off a few of my other ones before this post becomes too long XD -Love the idea of bringing back Talon and Malon (and Ingo I guess) pre-calamity who raise the finest horses in all of Hyrule that usually even make it to the castle itself as the royal family and royal guards' mounts - Ronin is a knight character I've been slow cooking in my head who's posted at one of the gatehouses in the castle, and he's got a lil secret (except it's not actually very secret cos everyone else in his regiment know) thing for one of the castle maids, Enid. And the go to a festival together one day when they have time off and I love them dearly - They don't have a name yet, but I've ALSO been thinking of the potential for a religious figure (a high preist or priestess or smthn) who oversees worship at the Castle Town Cathedral. I feel like it was more of a shrine to Hylia that had a lot of believers come and go rather than weekly services, but there still would have been someone who lived there and maintained the cathedral grounds - THE BELL RINGER! Again, they don't have a name, but I found the bell tower one of my first playthroughs of botw and the bell ringer has had me in a choke hold ever since. This strange, quiet outsider who was more in tune with Hyrule than anyone else and who was content to just sit in their tower most days and watch the people below. BUT ALSO the absolute tragedy as Calamity Ganon swarmed the towers when it emerged and would have corrupted and infected the bell ringer with the potent malice and killed them before they even had a chance to escape.
idk I just think pre-calamity is SO neat and one day I'd love to write a bunch of character anthologies but first I gotta get up the motivation XD

"Arrests, Trials And Sentences All a Mistake," The Province (Vancouver). March 13, 1943. Page 5. ---- MONTREAL, March 13. (CP) Three Montrealers were arrested, pleaded guilty and were sentenced under military call up regulations not effective at the time, police officials admitted here.
The men, who paid $25 fines and were escorted to a military training camp, were arrested several days ago by police who apparently did not know the deadline for registra- tion of single men for military service had been advanced from March 1 to March 15. Neither the men nor the pre- siding judge had apparently heard of a change in the registration deadline.
"Frankly, I don't know what will be done," said a Royal Canadian Mounted Police official. "I suppose the three men can appeal for a refund of their fines?" He would not disclose their names or any other details.

Angsty story idea I just had:
Wild is feeling homesick for the home he had before the calamity and before he drew the Master Sword. All the other Links have their places of origin and he wants to know his own. He asks Flora but she doesn’t know where his home was. She only knew him at the castle. He prays to Hylia to show him his home.
Later, the Chain's in his Hyrule and they’re riding horses somewhere and Wild sees a ruined house out in the wilderness surrounded by blue nightshade (which is the symbolic flower of BotW/TotK Link). He realizes that this is his home and he ends up having a long memory of some of his life as a child living there.
He then finds something from that old time like a buried chest of valuables his family buried before the Calamity for safekeeping.

@cayanne-pepper since this version with my compiled greatest hits is still making the rounds, can you explain why you chose to include the afrikaner post ? surely you knew afrikaner is the real endonym used by white south africans of dutch boer descent ? afrikaners you may have heard of include oscar leonard pistorius or quinton de kock, hence the penis name joke. or did you think afrikaner was an ugly spelling of african ? funny and real african names include goodluck jonathan and tokyo sexwale by the way
heartwarming that after half a millennium of psychiatrists diagnosing everyone with random nonsense we've finally found an objectively correct system with which to diagnose people with things that are 100% real

In the article "Training B-17 Flying Fortress Gunners for Masters of the Air" on The Armory Life, Capt. Dale Dye, USMC (Ret), discusses his role as Senior Military Advisor for the Apple TV+ miniseries "Masters of the Air." This miniseries, which aired in 2024, is part of a trilogy following the acclaimed "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific." The article emphasizes the thorough research conducted on the 8th Air Force and the 100th Heavy Bombardment Group, also known as "The Bloody Hundredth." Capt. Dye highlights the intensive and realistic training given to actors to accurately portray the experiences of B-17 air gunners during World War II, including handling .50-caliber machine guns, adapting to cramped aircraft conditions, and recognizing enemy aircraft. He underscores the importance of highlighting the often-overlooked roles of air gunners to ensure historical accuracy and honor their contributions to the war effort.

"Scenes as Residents of St. Vincent and Sydenham Leave New Tank Range," Owen Sound Sun-Times. October 1, 1942. Page 6. --- The northern tips of St. Vincent and Syndenham Townships are today a new Canadian Army tank range. Rolling farm-lands which for years have been devoted to feeding Canadians are now serving another purpose, being used to train men to guard Canadians against the loss of those things they prize more than life itself. All residents of the area have now departed for their new homes. Here are scenes as the evacuation was in full swing. Upper left, Carol Jane McKee, aged 7, and Yvonne McKee, aged 9, 4 sit the steps of the Balaclava school, their books in their arms, as they any well to this school house. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Russell McKee and will reside near Allenford. Top centre is a view of a Sydenham group, helping Mrs. Margaret Eagles pack her belongings into a truck for removal to her new home at Owen Sound. From left to right are Jimmie Lemon, Carewood White, Miss Katherine Lemon, M. Donald Lemon, Mrs. Margaret Eagles and Clifford King. Upper right is scene familiar in the district in the past few weeks, a truck-load of hay. Standing on the hood of the truck is Rae Bumstead, while at the left is the owner of the hay, John Cathrae, who is moving to a farm in Keppel Township. Lower left is sbown one of the warning signs erected along the boundaries of the area. The man on the right Josh Gammon of Hawkestone, Ont., who was directing William Briggs and Geedon Hedekinson of Meaford in the work of erecting barriers across the roadway. Lower right is a picture of S.S. No. 12, St. Vincent, closed because it stands four rods inside the tank area, although eleven of the school's fourteen pupils reside outside the area and will now have to go as far as five miles to St. John's school. Standing is the school door in the picture is George Moire, a member of the school board of S.S. No. 12 - Sun-Tunes Staff Photo

⏰ 🚨 attention please🙏🚨
Dear friends and compassionate supporters,
This is Eman Zaqout, from Occupied Gaza, Palestine. I am a Biotechnologist ,🩸💉 and scientific researcher contacting you at a really desperate moment.
I am seeking your assistance to raise funds for saving our lives, facing the starvation in Gaza and help me achieve my doctoral degree dream after being awarded OWSD PhD Fellowship for inspirational women🍉👩‍🎓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
just like any motivated and loving life woman, and for years, I poured my heart and soul into my work at Al-Shifa Hospital and Turkish Palestinian Friendship Hospital, as Biotechnology Specialist serving cancer patients with compassion and skill.

I also gave medical lectures to students at different universities and training centers in Gaza👇☑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a result of my outstanding grades in my study and the excellent performance in my job, I have been a holder of different scholarship and I am active participant in many research visits and scientific missions. 💪The last scholarship as at McGill University in Canada three months ago before the starting of the genocide in Gaza.😫
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However,😥
My life changed dramatically when Israeli military launched a sweeping war against Gaza. My home and our neighborhood in the North have been destroyed along with our belongings and precious memories early in this crisis.😢💔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My job and my husband's job are gone. Israeli military forced us to evacuate from the north Gaza to the south where they claimed it would be the safe zone but it is not at all. Our sweet home and neighborhood have been destroyed 😥😭💔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forced to flee with nothing but the clothes on our backs, today, we find ourselves sheltering in a displacement camp lacking access to sanitation, medical supplies, food and drinkable water. I will not talk a lot about the dire and unbearable life we have to go through, as no word can express it fairly 🥺😣
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The good news in the midst of this tragedy, that I am one of the 22 women from the developing world who have been awarded OWSD- PhD fellowship to pursue my PhD study in Malaysia🍉💪. But now I am stuck in Gaza unable to achieve my dream because Israeli army has occupied and closed all the border crossings 😭💔

Meet 22 fellows awarded OWSD PhD fellowship
This genocide has been 11 months of hell and horror. We have reached a point where there is no hope left for us here in Gaza, where we are unfortunately just waiting for our turn to die.
Tumblr media
Nevertheless,
I refuse to succumb to despair, holding on to the belief that brighter days lie ahead.
With your kindness and generosity🥺, I hope to survive the genocide and reclaim the path to achieving my doctorate 💉🩸
Your compassionate aid would mean the world to me and my family.🥺🙏❤🇵🇸✌

Almost Got Away With It
@themerrywhumpofmay: overheating @mediwhumpmay: withdrawal
The soldiers are leaving for boot camp in a few days. One soldier hides a secret he didn't think he'd be able to keep secret during his health exam. Even though he stopped four days prior. That was rough, and now he's back to taking his benzodiazepine. He's managed to keep his mental health condition a secret to get into the military. He knows N.E.S.T. isn't lax with what disqualifies a potential recruit. "I've managed to pull this off, but I'm not sure if they're going to check everyone's bags at the camp," the soldier worries, "and they'll definitely search our person before we're allowed to enter the camp." Boot camp is two weeks long. The soldier hopes withdrawal doesn't kick his butt.
The soldier isn't feeling withdrawal symptoms until day three of boot camp. Considering he's just now feeling his anxiety, he's certain this is withdrawal. "Are you ok?" A soldier asks. "I'm fine!" The other soldier leaves the cabin. Maybe I just need sleep. The soldier tries to convince himself. It's seven at night, and he can be in his cabin.
After a night of struggling to fall asleep, the loud wake-up call at five in the morning is not what anyone wants. Add the headache the soldier has. His hands tremble as he gets dressed. The other soldiers in the cabin see he's struggling but believe he's taking a little longer to wake up today.
"Today, you will be running the ten-mile trail," the Drill Sargent tells the recruits. The soldiers are confused about why they are to run ten miles when the average is two miles,  but they don't say anything about the unusually long distance.
"Hey, are you ok?' the same soldier who asked the question yesterday asks. "I—" the soldier can't answer before falling to the ground. "Help! Someone get help!" The soldier yells. He sees the unconscious soldier is covered in sweat. "Pathetic!" The Drill Sargent scoffs
"As weird of an observation this is, I don't think this is sweat from running ten miles," Jolt points out. "We'll have our answer after a blood test."
The soldier wakes up soon after Ratchet gets a blood sample and goes to his ambulance alt mode to test the blood. He was expecting to find nothing. While finding a cause of the soldier passing out is good, this particular reason isn't good news for the soldier.
Ratchet sees the soldier is awake, drinking water. He has cooled down, and Jolt had placed a pedestal fan by the bed. Jolt gives Ratchet his notes on the soldier's vitals. The soldier has high blood pressure and heart palpations. "I don't understand how he was cleared for boot camp with these vitals," Jolt questions. "Because he's having withdrawal from Centrax." "What? How the frag did he manage to get enlisted?" "This isn't the first time they've stopped taking their medication."
The soldier argues he is not taking the medication. Failing to realize his attitude indicates withdrawal rather than anger at being accused. While it's the rules, Ratchet doesn't like reporting the situation to Lennox.
Lennox is not thrilled with the situation and has to discharge a soldier. Now he has to press charges. "It's a felony," Lennox tells Ratchet, "the best I can do is to allow you to treat him while he's in prison awaiting trial."
This is exactly what Ratchet is told after the soldier is arrested less than an hour after Lennox is informed of the situation. The soldier is back on medication and no longer dealing with withdrawal within a month. In time for his three years in prison.
