Day 22 of the #blackfamilyhistorychallenge is oldest marriage record. This record is for my 3rd great grand uncle, Emsley Phillips Lassiter, originally from Randolph County, NC. He was the oldest son of my 4th great grandparents Miles Lassiter and Healy Phillips Lassiter. Emsley applied to marry Elizabeth Winburn, born in Halifax County, NC, on 28 March 1845. They were wed on 3 April 1845, in Rush County, Indiana. Emsley died in Indianapolis, where he had gone to get work, in 1892. Elizabeth moved to Marion, where she lived with one of their daughters. She died there in 1908. #blackhistorymonth #rushcountyindiana #randolphcountync #mileslassiterdescendants https://www.instagram.com/p/CaRW-xgLB34/?utm_medium=tumblr

Day 2 for July’s #genealogyphotoaday was #grave. The canopy was over the gravesite where my cousin Aveus Lassiter Edmondson was buried in October 2014 at the age of 101 in Strieby Cemetery. I miss her. #striebychurchnc #randolphcountync #mileslassiterdescendants https://www.instagram.com/p/CRw2140Mgye/?utm_medium=tumblr

This weekend, five years ago (2014), I stayed, for the last time, on our family farm in Lassiter Mill (Asheboro), Randolph County, NC. On that day we buried the (then) oldest living member of our family, Aveus Lassiter Edmundson, who was 101. Soon after that the family decided to rent out the home. This farmland is part of the original 400 acres of our ancestors, Miles and Healy (Phillips) Lassiter, which was passed to their heirs after their deaths, his being the last in 1850. Most of that original 400 acres is still owned by their heirs, my various cousins. #genealogyphotoaday #farm #mileslassiter #mileslassiterdescendants #randolphcountync #uwharrienationalforest #lassitermillroad (at Uwharrie National Forest) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4IEFRbJQjV/?igshid=47tubesfuzel

Congratulations to my young cousins, Patrick Bryant (L) and Stephen Bryant (R) (Lassiter family of Randolph County NC descendants) who graduated this week from their respective college programs in Greensboro, NC. It’s perfect. Stephen graduated from an Agricultural program and Patrick from a culinary program. Stephen will grow the food and Patrick can cook it!
