I knew the end of Arifureta Zero was going to be depressing. That’s why it took me several months to get through it. But fucking hell, Miledi and the gang deserved so much better

Chapter 2: It was a date? Table of Contents | Profile
Word Count: 918 A/N: I'll make a separate post for what I envisioned Miledy to be, those would be early designs tho.

“Thanks again for coming, Al. Thanks for the radio too, it must’ve been quite expensive,” I said to him with a small smile. We were currently in a coffee shop, where I invited him as a thank you for taking me around the city for the best stores and sights in town.
“It’s nothing grand, it was my pleasure! Besides, I was the one that asked to come with you either way,” he replied with his grin before drinking his coffee. “I just hope you would listen to me while I’m on air.”
“I wouldn’t miss it!” I replied happily giving him a radiant smile.
Alastor seemed to enjoy the sight and happy hum and continued, “Speaking of which, darlin’. I wanted to ask you to sing a few songs during my radio show. I quite enjoy your songs and fantastic singing voice; it definitely has the potential to go big! And why not invite you over, it’s a win-win-win for us!”
I was shocked for a moment and rambled on mostly to myself, “W-well, I don’t know. I don’t think I’m good enough to do that and specially on your own show I couldn’t--.”
I stopped when he took my hand pat it, encasing my hands with his large ones. “Calm down, sweetheart. I won’t force you if you don’t want to. I just wanted to open an opportunity for you, I didn’t to put you in a tight spot there. I apologize.”
I looked at him with grateful eyes with how understanding he was and nodded my head.
“Just tell me when you’re ready, darling. That offer is always open,” he encouraged with his enthusiastic theatrics. He then looks at his watch and announces, “Oh would you look at that! It’s almost time! We should hurry if we want to catch up.”
I stood up with him confused as he escorted me outside and hailed a taxi for us to get in. “Where are we going, Al?”
“That’s a surprise,” he whispered with half-lidded eyes and his easy grin.
Flustered, I turned my head to the streets and watch as the people pass by. Eventually, halted by the seaside. The golden hue flushed the world around us, making everything look magical.
I went and held the silver railing and simply uttered, “Wow.”
Hearing nothing from the usually talkative radio host, I looked over to Alastor who looked over the distance with melancholy hazing his eyes. Thinking over what happened today and the day I first met him, I started to reconsider what he said at the café. I wanted to do something for him for all the things he had given me.
“Hey, Al?” I called to him somewhat embarrassed.
He turns to me and puts on a lazy grin, replying, “Yes, sweetheart?”
“About the offer…” I look away from his eyes and breathed in, “I want to do it.”
His eyes visibly light up and gives me a hug, making me go wide eyed from the sudden show of affection. I didn’t think of him as the type of guy to be all touchy-feely. Before I could even return it, he unlatches off me and holds my shoulders eagerly.
“Wonderful! You won’t regret it. I’ll put on a show for you in no time!” he responds happily.
I give him a wry smile and laugh, before looking back at the shore reliving through what I went through today, while Alastor placed his arm around my shoulders quite intimately. I looked at the hand on my shoulder and back to his face and laughed.
“You know, if someone were to look at us right now and all the things we did together. I’d think they’d surely assume that we were on a date,” I jested, nudging my shoulder at him.
He doesn’t say anything at first but the counters, “Funnily enough, I always thought that were the case.” I look at him confused making him pet my head, “I won’t deny that I hold an attraction towards you, and neither will I deny that today’s plans were exactly a date.”
“S-so you.. to me??” I stuttered bewildered that someone as him would like a simple girl like me.
“But of course!” he explains, “The moment I saw you in the club you’ve already caught my eye, and having to share a two, few many drinks with you. You are quite a rarity in an age like this.”
“B-but what if I-,” I started feeling my anxiety get to me, try to get away from his grip.
“My dear, what if are only figurative. Nothing good will ever come out of overthinking,” he tried holding my hands trying to soothe me.
I took a big breath in and asked, “Are you sure you’d want me? I’m not a good person, Alastor. I mess up, make mistakes and I’m a coward.”
Looking down at our hands, I missed the mysterious haze over his eyes and replied, “So am I. I like you for who you are, Miledy. Whether you stumble and fall or flourish and grow, I want to be the first person there to pick you up and support you.”
I smiled at him, finding comfort in his words and nodded my head, “Okay. I want to there for you too, Al.”
“Lovely. How about I take you home now? Our outing has gotten a little bit late,” he changed the topic.
“Alright,” I answer happily letting him escort me while talking all the way home.

I think that we as a fandom need to talk more about the fact that like... Lugh, for all his niceness and kindness is very much holding onto his anger towards bern just so he can just keep going. Go and read his supports with Miledy they are really good and also kinda sad.
I just think that's a really neat thing about him :)

Finished FE6 yesterday and it was a fun ride. Absolutely wacky difficulty spikes and lulls though so I don't think I'll play it again for a while.
My best units were for sure Lilina and Ray. I often used Saul, Elen, Clarine, Thany, and Miledy. Thany was incredible for 90% of the game but she started to decline in the late game.
No one told me I had to keep Fae alive for the true ending :///// But at least it's out there to read/see. (In fact the guide I followed lied about Fae so I'm >:/)
Speaking of the ending, the final chapter was so fun in terms of lore but easy peasy (Idunn impaled herself on the binding blade...). I'm really glad I'm doing Elibe again after like, 10 years (started 7 asap after rolling credits on 6). The world is so fun and full of lore and the characters are so great.
Despite it being a giant lore dump at the end, Idunn rose up real quickly to being one of my favorite dragons. I want her and Alear to sit and talk. Zephiel was super interesting and his backstory, while tragic, was also metal and hell. Guinevere won't last long in my memory I think but she did end up being kind of a natural ship with Roy, I thought (despite me having him and Lilina to A).
Incidentally, with the dragon Jahn having the same shade of hair as Roy, I'm headcanoning Eliwood's family to be distantly descended from Dragons. That's it that's the tweet.

((Speaking of FE6 and FE8, I wa about to talk about how it's amazing Miledy and Percival were allowed to exist, but then I remembered Seth. Yes, let's give the player a character who can solo the entire game in the prologue/tutorial chapter!))

Arifureta Zero Volume 6
The finale for Miledi and the Liberators. It's unfair, it's awful, the world ends. We knew this would happen but it's still a shock. Reading these alternating with the main series has certainly been the way to go, each volume ties in with something either mentioned in the previous or following main series. The cast of characters were all charming, Lyu felt the least developed and while her forestization move was cool and she really is key to the party being the buffs, she felt underutilized and in the end Sharm was the one who defended the forest in her absence. Laus was a very tragic character but still entertaining.
I'm glad Naiz ended up with the little girl Yunfa even if Susha couldn't make it. I think they ended up being the ancestors of the guy in the main series who comes in to take over for the pope? Simon Levellair? Maybe? Which makes sense because he showed up one volume and was saying like "my family says follow your heart" or some shit and seemed real important but hasn't done much but be a good guy.
I liked the vampire king he was funny and honestly all the side characters were good even if there were way too many. Some stand outs were Sui, Alfard (the vampire), Badd, and the demon lord.
Oscar kind of faded into the background for this volume, he did a lot of synthesizing, but it really was Miledi's time to shine, as well as covering all the people dying and fighting.
Very cool set up and worldbuilding for Tortus and the main series, which is good because the main series really doesn't have that worldbuilding that I think it needs. Zero provides that for it.
Good series, read if you like the first 7 volumes of Arifureta and think you'll read all of the series eventually, really fleshes out the main series. I'll get started on the final volume of the main series right away.

I hopped off the bus clutching my hat in one hand and my bag in the other. Lifting my hand off the hat, I reached inside my coat for a piece of paper.
“Angel Suites, 123 Bullard Avenue,” I muttered reading the paper then looking at the tall building in front of me. I sighed and went inside and was then greeted with a stench of tobacco from the clerk in the front smoking reading a magazine.
I grimaced and knocked on the wooden desk to gain his attention, from the lack of a bell. He lifted his eyes from the paper and narrowed his gaze to glare at me, causing me to break in nervous sweat.
“Hi, I-I’m Miledy Calliope. I called you yesterday for an apartment room?” I tried to say out cursing at myself from my stutters.
He rolled his eyes, folded his newspaper to the side and opened a small drawer to his right, muttering curses as he looked for my keys. When he finally found them, he threw them at me to which I hastily caught, causing me to drop my belongings.
“The stairs are to the left,” he groaned in annoyance, opening his newspaper again and turning on the radio on his left increasing the volume, seemingly to drown me out if I had any more questions and then taking a drag from his tobacco.
I huffed and drudged to my now apartment room, it was cold and damp inside. It has a somewhat worn-out couch and bed, an empty kitchen. To save myself from a migraine, I plopped down on the bare bed and collected my thoughts to stay calm.
“This is better than nothing at all. Better than staying at that damned place for sure,” I complained quietly looking through the glass window in melancholy. I sat up and rummaged through my bag to find a little rabbit stuffed toy, squeezing it for comfort for being in a new environment and an entirely new life.
For a while, I did as much I could do to make the place cleaner than I found it and homier for me. As the sun went down, cleaned up myself. I wore a glittery loose dress, the length all the way to my ankles, accompanied by bright earrings and a fur coat.
After locking up the door, I headed towards my first gig.  I breathed out a sigh as I tried to shake off my nerves, I stood at the half-filled club. I turned my head when I heard a shrill call for my name.
“Miledy!” I see a short woman theatrically calling my name.
“Miss Mimzy!” I replied excitedly, “Thank you so much for having me!”
“Of course, no problem! Just bring in some bills, yeah?” she joked with her thumb and pointer together to sign for money while winking.
“I’ll try!” I shrugged with a smile.
After a while of talking someone gave me a cue to get on stage. “Good luck, honey!” Mimzy cheered.
As soon as I got on stage and sang in front of the mic with a sudden boost in confidence, I didn’t notice a fine gentleman sitting next to Mimzy greeting her and talking with each other.
“Mimzy! Good evening, my dear,” the brunette greeted tipping down his hat. “A newcomer I see.”
“Hi, Al!” she replied enthusiastically, “Yeah, I scouted her from the city down during my trip. Lovely, isn’t she?”
Alastor merely hummed amused and answered, “A pleasing voice indeed. Would you mind introducing me after the show? I'd love to get to know this new talent of yours.”
Mimzy raised her eyebrow a bit skeptical, “Sure, no problem.”
The further the songs went on the more Alastor was enchanted, barely able to take his eyes off her. However, he noticed that he wasn’t the only one to take interest in her, his face contorted into a sneer when he lustful stares the men had in his peripherals, as they enjoyed their liquor.
When I finished my stage, the place erupted in cheers, whistles and applause making me feel overwhelmed with the attention. I smiled and waved my hand at them, thanking them for enjoying the show. I bounded to Mimzy and her company, where she counted her money.
“That was fantastic, darlin’! Look how much money you raked in!” Mimzy cheered.
“Given how clear and beautiful her voice was, I'd say it's quite deserved!” the gentleman with a glasses complimented. I blushed and replied with a small thank you which he smiled at.
“Miledy, this is my friend Alastor, he works as a radio host right here in New Orleans.”
“Miledy, Miledy Calliope. I just arrived in town today actually,” introducing myself to him and shaking his hand, his grin subtly growing deeper.
“Well, I have to go check the schedules and see when I can squeeze you on stage again. Toodles!” Mimzy smiled with an obsessive glint in her eyes.
Alaster faces me once again, “Can I offer you a drink?”
My smile froze a bit, thinking about it. He analyzes me a bit before adding with a laugh in his tone, “Don’t worry. I won’t do anything to harm you! I’m a frequent patron here and a very well-known voice and face here, you know? I neither don’t want to put my reputation to be at risk nor do I want you to have a bad time around here. Just think of it as a welcome gift as friends.”
I thought over what he said and smiled as he went on. I conceded to him, “Alright, why not? Sorry about being so skeptical.”
“No worries at all! It’s great that you’re on your guard. Not a lot of people are like me,” he teased bringing us to the bar.
“What? Tall and charming?” I retorted getting more comfortable around him.
He chuckled charmingly making me blush again, he then joked “Well, I was going for a kind respectable gentleman. I guess that can work too.”
I laughed at his not-so-subtle attempt to improve his self-image while his smile seemed a bit more genuine as he finally heard this woman laugh. He seemed to be enthralled with the image of me laughing and giggling at his remarks that he fished for more reactions out of me while we enjoyed a bunch of drinks.
The night grew colder, we started to gather ourselves and got out of the establishment.
“You sure can hold your liquor, darlin’,” Alastor remarked, he himself flushed red.
“I can say the same to you for a lanky figure like yours, sir,” I teased, “This was fun. Thanks for tonight, Alastor.”
His gaze softened and reached out pat my head which I indulged, finding his touch comforting. Oh, dear was I drunk.
“No problem. It was a fantastic night for me too. Do you have any plans anytime soon?” he asked keeping his hand on the top of my head.
“Mmm. I think I have to buy a few things for my apartment, why do you ask?” I answered, somewhat hopeful raising my eyes at him doe-ishly.
He breathed out a chuckle from my actions and replied, “Allow me to accompany you then. I’ll show you a fantastic store, one where your money’s worth spending to. I’ll free some time in a few days to show you around.”
“I’d like that. Thank you,” I smiled.
“Great! Now come, I’ll escort you back home. These streets are crawling with criminals at these hours,” he explained offering his arm out to me which I latched onto, growing creeped out as we strolled down to my place.
When we were half-way there, I heard a blood curdling scream as clear as day. It seemed so close to me, as if they were screaming in my ears, causing me to freeze and hold onto Alastor tighter. His perked up in alert as he circled his arm around me protectively, unbeknownst to me of the sadistic smile he had in the sick pleasure of the sound of suffering.
Reminding himself of the damsel in his arms, he rubbed had over my back and led me faster. “Don’t worry, doll. It’s nothing, just some pesky crows,” he lied.
I didn’t question further and walked briskly right next to him, blocking my ears as the screams slowly quieted down leaving it to my imagination.
