Italy Pavilion – Milan Expo 2015 by Nemesi. For the design of this "skin" Nemesi has created a unique and original geometric texture that evokes the intertwining random branches. The full external façade of Palazzo Italia is clad in over 700 i.active BIODYNAMIC panels realized by Styl-Comp with Italcementi's patented TX Active technology. When this material comes into contact with light, it can "capture" pollution in the air, transforming it into inert salts and reducing smog levels. My most recent work, the Brace Stool. Made from 5 meters of fibre optic cable that would usually go to landfill, with a solid beech seat, not a drop of glue used. The legs pierce the seat and are fixed using beech dowels, leaving a black ring invisible to the touch. Milan EXPO 2015

Turns out that three largest international events held on Earth are the Olympics, the World Cup, and the World's Fairs, known as EXPO. However, I have never heard of EXPO until the chance to visit this year’s exhibition in Milan, Italy. It started on May 1st and ends on the 31st of October. Usually the exhibition lasts somewhere between 3 to 6 month and since 1995 is held every 5 years.

The topic of this year’s EXPO is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. There are over 140 participating countries; each has their own pavilion to present ideas connected to nutrition and the resources of our planet.

World Fair has the history of 164 years since the first EXPO took place in London in 1851. The famous Eiffel Tower was built as a temporary art object at the EXPO of 1889. Next World Fair is set up for 2020 and is to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

There was a lot of extraordinary stuff. Like flowers which produce sounds after you move your hand above it (Azerbaijan pavilion).

Or combining food with precious stones and metals (Belgium pavilion).

Or imitation of the beehive (Great Britain pavilion), which was recognized as the winning design of the Milan Expo 2015.

It was disappointing to pass the pavilions of Moldova, Slovenia, Turkmenistan, and not to find the Ukrainian pavilion.
