I see your writing for fire emblem engage and I really love that game and I just finished it for maddening. I don’t know if this is a request or not but may I ask in the context of the base emblems, can you rank them based on how extreme they would be as a yandere like I think I would rate emblem Celica as 12th cause even if she turns yandere she still very passive and more so she’s just clingy but I would rate Byleth a 4th due to him being extremely manipulative and overprotective

Hii, welcome to the blog! I´d say normally I would consider this a request but I´m kind of in the mood to write for fire emblem right now so I thought this would be a fun little thing to do ^^

Now I must confess that for most of the lords ( which the majority of emblems are) I have some difficulty with trying to think of them as a yandere or in a self-shipping context in general. Don´t really know why that is. I also haven´t played all of the games yet so I can´t say too much about some of them, I hope that´s okay!

Also because I have a real hard time ranking things in order, here are just some thoughts on most of the emblems as yanderes ☺️

How are the 12 base emblems like as yanderes?

Marth

Now I´ll have to be honest, I actually haven´t played any of Marth´s games yet so I´m not very familiar with his character. But as with most FE lords, he strikes me as a very kind and heroic character. In Engage he kind of takes the role of a supporter and protector of the Mc and we can see that in general, he is pretty gentle.

He probably wouldn´t be a very bad yandere to be stuck with, I can´t see him ever getting violent with his darling. He strikes me as a protective yandere (something that can be said for most of them) who will do whatever he can to keep you safe while trying to make your stay with him as comfortable as possible.

Celica

I haven´t quite finished Echoes yet because I´m very bad at finishing games but I agree with your take that she also wouldn´t ever harm her darling. She´s a very devout follower of Mila and I think that same mentality could also apply to her darling. Slowly but surely, she starts seeing them as a divine being worth worshipping. She´s been completely alone for most of her life and after she had to leave Ram Village, she´s been craving more human connections. So when she finally met you, it was like Mila had sent down an angel for her. You were so kind to her, so trusting and good-natured, Celica was immediately fond of you.

She will do whatever she can to aid you in your daily life, she has to repay you for everything you gave her. She´s not very likely to attack other people, even as a yandere, because above else she wants peace. Nonetheless, if a monster or a criminal were to try and attack you, she would kill them no questions asked. No one is allowed to lay their hands on someone as divine as you, she won´t stand for it.

Due to a certain spoilery scene that happens in Echoes, I believe that Celica would also be willing to sacrifice herself for you. If there ever was a point where she would have to choose between your or her own life, she would choose yours without any regrets.

Your survival is of the utmost importance and if that means giving up her life in exchange for yours, then she is happy.

Sigurd

I have only played the prologue and chapter 1 of FE4 and ragequit when Jamke was killing my units in the forest because I couldn´t get them out in time to recruit him. Oops.

Well from what I know with how his story with Deirdre develops, I believe that Sigurd would fall for you much in the same way: Hard and fast. And if nothing else, Sigurd is stubborn. Once he has his mind set on wanting to make you his, he won´t give up until he finally has you, no matter the consequences. I mean he was literally forbidden from getting with Deirdre and he still did it. He doesn´t care what anyone else says, he doesn´t care if you already have a lover. He knows that the moment you two shared together at your first meeting was magical for both of you. He knows the love between you two is true. And he´s willing to risk it all for you.

It´s a good thing if you actually do feel the same way about him and are single! Because even though he isn´t a bad person, he does conquer several territories in Fe4 without any specific orders to do so. He may not like doing it but if it means he can have you, he would be willing to kill any romantic rivals there might have been ( or any he might have imagined).

Once you´re actually with him, he naturally is very protective of you and doesn´t let too many other people get close to you.

Leif

Now I have to admit, Leif is probably the character I know the least about here. As I said, I never played Fe4 to the point where you would get him and I haven´t played Thracia either. So most of this is just the vibes I get and a few lines from Heroes.

Now Leif has quite a tragic story and has been driven out of his kingdom when he was still young. Ever since then, he had made efforts to try and reclaim what had been taken from him. Because of that, he also strikes me as someone who would fight for his darling. He knows what it´s like to lose people that are important to you ( his parents) and now that he has clawed his way back from the brink, he doesn´t want the same to happen to you, the person he has decided he wants to spend his life with. He´s pretty desperate to protect you actually.

Still, he´s pretty young and so the love he feels for you very much still is a puppy-love kind of thing. He likes talking to you and finds it comforting to do so. He´s very nice to you and you aren´t really in any danger when being with him. I think being with him isn´t all too bad, he´s just a bit over-protective if anything.

Roy

I´ll be honest, I know almost nothing about Roy so I´m sorry if this is short😭 Predictably, I haven´t played Binding Blade yet.

He´s also one of the younger emblems here and that shows itself in how hard he tries to impress you. He´s usually pretty dense when it comes to romance but he knows what he feels when he sees you. You make him happy. I feel like he could be a bit hot-headed because of his age but as far as I know, he´s actually one of the few lords that can potentially make peace with the final boss of the game so there definitely is quite a lot of kindness to him as well. He doesn´t really want to pick any fights with people he trusts, all he wants is to be with you and if you don´t resist then honestly, it´s all going to be okay.

Lyn

Finally, after quite some time, we get to some more games I´ve actually played! And here we go with Lyn! Fe7 was actually the first Fire Emblem I ever played and it really hooked me even back then <3

Now Lyn actually doesn´t strike me as the type of person who would really actively be looking for any sort of romance. She´s lived alone for most of her life and so she does crave some companionship, but romance is something she really doesn´t have any experience in.

When she meets you, she does feel a bit strange but doesn´t put a lot of thought into it. Quickly as you two spend more time together, she really begins to take a liking to you. It´s nice to not be alone and you´re good company. The more you stay together, the more she grows attached to you. If you can fight, she´ll want to fight along your side, if you can´t or are frail in some way, Lyn will prefer you to stand on the sidelines, where it´s safe. She doesn´t know what she would do if you were ever truly harmed. The attacker definitely wouldn´t be living for much longer, that much is sure.

So to sum it up, Lyn is very protective of you and only trusts a select few people with you, anyone else could be a potential danger and she doesn´t want to risk anything.

I think it would actually be kind of tough for darling to figure out that Lyn is obsessed with them. Lyn doesn´t strike me as very physically affectionate. Only if you watch very carefully can you see the way her eyes soften when she gazes at you or the way her hand around the handle of her sword tenses when a particular troublemaker starts hitting you up. She definitely won´t tolerate anyone trying to flirt with you. She´s known you for way longer than they possibly could have, who do they think they are?

Eirika and Ephraim

I know it´s mainly Eirika and Ephraim is only really present in the special attack but I thought this was more interesting.

So having one person obsessed with you is bad enough but two of them? And they´re siblings too? Things are about to get quite a bit more complicated. The thing is, you´re not really sure if this is better or worse than only having one of them?

Of course, having two people focus all of their attention on you is very overwhelming. It stresses you out, the way they both fuss over you, the way they look at you.

Eirika is definitely the gentler one of the two, speaking to you very softly and taking great care of you. She makes sure you aren´t lacking anything (except your freedom). She also isn´t very fond of conflict and would prefer to avoid it altogether.

Ephraim is the brash and more hot-headed of the two, always picking fights with people he deems a threat ("He doesn´t pick fights he can´t win" or whatever) and generally being bolder with his affections. He doesn´t hesitate to throw his arm over your shoulder to show off to others that you´re his while Eirika prefers to simply hold your hand in her own.

Them being siblings also causes conflict from time to time. After all, what kind of siblings never have any petty squabbles? Suddenly one of them believes that the other has been getting a bit more attention from you than them and the arguing begins. Wild accusations from Ephraim that Eirika is coddling you too much while Eirika complains about the brutish ways in which Ephraim disposes of rivals. It can get annoying really fast but it´s also something that you could potentially try to use to your advantage.

Playing clear favorites with them might make them argue with each other, potentially giving you an opening to try to make your escape while they´re distracted. Do be very careful with this though because once they realize that you´re gone, they´ll quickly get over whatever argument they were having and work together to find you again. Siblings tend to have petty fights with each other but they will have each other´s backs when it comes to the important things. They *will* find you again, who knows what dangers you might be getting yourself into?

Ike

Similarly to Lyn, I can´t really see Ike as someone who is very interested in romance. In Radiant Dawn, he only has two paired endings, which isn´t a whole lot honestly ( and they´re kind of vague on how romantic they actually end up being). So maybe he would be more of a platonic sort of yandere? He cares a great deal about his friends and his family of the Greil Mercenaries and he tries his utmost to protect them. It would be much the same for his darling.

Ike wouldn´t be very physically or vocally loving in the traditional sense, he strikes me as someone who would struggle a fair deal with expressing his feelings, especially if we´re talking POR Ike where he is still fairly young. In the end, his confession would be pretty blunt, a simple "I like you." or "You´re important to me." maybe but nothing flowery or dramatic, that just isn´t the kind of person he is.

That being said, Ike cares a great deal about your well-being, even if he isn´t all that great at putting it into words. So to show you that, he does the one thing he does best: Protecting you. Ike is a very strong and capable fighter and so he will be quick to dispose of anyone that tries harming you. I don´t see him as someone that would try to isolate his darling however, especially not the Greil Mercenaries. These people are his family, he trusts them dearly and he would want you to grow connections with them and enjoy being around them. It would shatter his heart if you didn´t like being around them.

Micaiah

Micaiah I see as another worshipper type of yandere. She´s had a rough life so far, only having very few people around her that she could call friends in the Dawn Brigade while fighting for the liberation of Daein. It´s a lonely life, even with Yune whispering into her ear that one day, she will meet the partner of her dreams, the one to make her happy.

And then, on a day like any other, she finds you. It´s a very unremarkable meeting, one you wouldn´t have thought much of afterwards, but to her, it was like all the stars aligned, as if all of her life and past suffering suddenly had a purpose. She was completely starstruck, a loud pounding in her chest when she laid her gaze on you. At that very moment, Micaiah knew that you were the one Yune had been telling her about all along. And so, she vows to let you know just how much you mean to her.

As a yandere, Micaiah is very caring and thinks of you as a higher being, someone who has more worth than any other mortal walking this earth. You are special to her and so she will be damned if anything were to happen to you. She refuses to allow it. If you were ever in any mortal danger, Micaiah wouldn´t hesitate to use Sacrifice on you to transfer over her own life energy to you.

But while she is very nice and caring with you, Micaiah can be quite a bit more snarky and ruthless than you might have initially thought. She doesn´t shy away from making negative or rude comments to people she thinks you spend too much time around. (Remember that scene where she snarkily calls Ike "the father of Sothe´s children" because Sothe talked about him so much? Yeah.) She´s also willing to do bad things if she feels like she has to. If it´s for you, then no crime is bad enough for her not to consider it. She doesn´t like hurting people but she will if her hand is forced.

Also, can we talk about her having a goddess on her side? Yeah, you´re going to have a very difficult time trying to get away from her anytime soon.

Lucina

Lucina is someone that I think actually has great potential to be a yandere. She comes from a ruined future, a world where all her loved ones and friends died and the entire world is doomed. Now she has travelled back in time to change fate and make things right.

A particularly tragic possibility would be to have her witness the death of her darling in her future. It was an event that deeply scarred her forever and one that she is now desperate to avoid. She can´t allow you to die again, she can´t let it happen a second time. She wouldn´t be able to go on if she ever had to experience that amount of grief again.

So when Lucina finally makes it back in time, her top priority is finding you again. To do that, she has to go back in time quite a bit. Maybe she makes it back to a time where you two aren´t dating yet, or maybe even back to when you hadn´t even met each other yet. You´re so overwhelmed and honestly confused when you´re just going along with your day when suddenly, a young woman rushes towards you and engulfes you in a crushing hug as she cries into your shirt about how much she has missed you.

It´s quite terrifying honestly and you don´t know how to react other than trying to rip yourself out of her grip, which only makes her cling onto you even harder. Her explaining to you that she´s from the future where the entire world has ended and you, her lover, had tragically died and that she now traveled back in time to make things right, doesn´t really put your mind at ease either. I mean, who would honestly believe that?

But no matter what you say, Lucina is determined to not repeat past mistakes. She had been too careless, letting you roam around freely without her at your side, it´s what led to you dying! She won´t let it happen again!

Lucina will try and be sweet to you, knowing how hard this must be for you to believe, but she won´t give you a choice in this. She´s going to stay with you and keep you safe no matter what. She´ll follow you wherever you go with her blade at the ready, prepared to strike at anyone who tries to take you away from her again.

Corrin

Corrin has lived a very sheltered life for the most part, never really leaving the Nohrian castle. Because of this, they had many opportunities to picture what life outside the castle could possibly look like. What else was out there? What adventures or new experiences could wait for them there? Yes, they were always loved by their Nohrian siblings but they couldn´t help but yearn all the same.

Maybe being read some romance books in their childhood led to Corrin developing a fantasy of one day meeting their ideal partner, the one that would shake up their entire world, the one they would spend the rest of their life with. They had dreamed about it a lot in the comforts of their own room, delving into daydreams about what meeting you for the first time might be like.

And then they leave the castle for the first time and they meet you. And just like they had always imagined, Corrin feels themselves immediately lovestruck when you send a smile their way. This was it. This is the person they´re meant to be with, they just know it!

They´ll immediately be very friendly and way too trusting of someone who is basically a complete stranger. But they just can´t help it, their sheltered life hasn´t really helped them in growing a healthy sense of suspicion. No, instead the thought of you possibly doing something shady is completely off their mind.

Ever since that first meeting, Corrin would want to see you again every day. It´s the first real human interaction they had with anyone outside of the Nohrian royal family and the servants in the castle and they´re hooked on you. Listening to you talk about your mundane life is so exciting to them, both because they love listening to you speak and because it is genuinely interesting to them to know what a normal person´s life might look like.

And soon enough, they just won´t leave you alone. They´re sweet and their curiosity is kind of charming, but they are so very annoyingly clingy. They will pout and beg you to stay around for just a bit longer when you tell them that you have to leave. After some time they start inviting you over to the castle and you can´t really refuse to go when a royal carriage is standing before your home one day.

And then suddenly, one day you just aren´t allowed to leave anymore.

" The servants have set up your own personal room for you. I made sure that everything was just to your liking! Now we can spend even more time together, isn´t that simply wonderful", Corrin will simply tell you one day and then it is a done deal. Whatever your life was before, you will have to abandon it to fulfill Corrin´s dream of a happy married life alongside the person they adore the most.

Byleth

Honestly, I´ve kind of strayed completely away from trying to rank them as yanderes ( sorry about that) but I agree that kind of everything about Byleht makes them a scary yandere.

First of all, they´re a trained and experienced mercenary, they have all the fighting prowess they might need to keep their darling in check or make sure that nothing happens to them.

Then, they have their affiliation with the church and a certain position of power. Whether you are a student or not, Byleth is still a respected figure in the monastery and has all the benefits that might bring. She has connections to the Knights of Seiros and even with Lady Rhea herself. If you ever were to run away ( or rather, if you were to be stolen away by bandits, is what they would tell everyone afterwards), several knights or even their students would be sent out to look for you. And do you really think you could get away with so many people looking for you? You´ll be back right by their side within 3 days.

Then there´s also the whole... a goddess is in their head talking to them and them having the ability to turn back time thing. Yeah, you´re very much screwed here. How are you supposed to fight back against someone who can simply turn back time? With this ability, they have so many chances to choose the right words when talking to you or to get rid of someone in secret, without you ever knowing these rewinds even happened. In-game we might have a limited amount of uses but I don´t think it´s ever been confirmed that this is actually something that Byleth needs to adhere to in the story.

And then last but not least, there´s the fact that Byleth is just impossible to read. They don´t show any emotions in their facial expressions and their voice is mostly monotone. You would not be able to tell just how obsessed they are with you from interacting with them. You think you´re just having a friendly tea party with them and suddenly you find yourself drugged and locked up in their room.

And even when they finally have you, they´re just kind of creepy with them staring at you for long amounts of time while not saying anything. They´re not very affectionate either.

But what help could you possibly count on now when everyone at the monastery loves the professor?

Sierra Simone writes theee best erotic romance, some of my faves include:

The New Camelot trilogy. Kinky King Arthur--very literally a modern King Arthur retelling in which King Arthur is [drumroll] Maxen Ashley "Ash" Colchester, president, erstwhile war hero, and absolute panty dropper, Lancelot his VP Embry Lance (never forget his middle name is Lance) Moore, my favorite romance character ever, and his first lady is Greer Galloway, the girl who heard a prophecy that was like "please don't kiss anyone" and went "okay I'll kiss everyone". MMF, kinky, angsty, dramatic.

Thornchapel. Quartet about six friends who accidentally awoke a gothic looming horror thing as kids and then continue to awake it as adults with kinky sex rituals. Kinda like The Secret History x Picnic at Hanging Rock x Brideshead Revisited with a dash of occult. Two core romances, one is MMF (childhood friends to enemies to lovers and the girl they both love) and one is FF. TW for incest(?). Very kinky, much group sex and sharing occurs.

Priest. One of her more.... approachable books, about a Catholic priest who falls for a woman who tells him all the shit she's done in confession. Also kinky.

Salt Kiss. Just out, a spinoff from New Camelot that retells Tristan and Isolde but with Tristan as a bodyguard and Mark as his boss who he falls in love with before he meets Isolde, who he promptly also falls in love with. Salt in the Wound is a novella that should be read first, ab out Mark and Isolde. Kinky, queer, intense.

Grace Callaway writes really fun historical romances that lean towards the more erotic. Usually, there's a girl who boldly ventures into danger, and a hero who's like "my god I find her brash impulsiveness compelling, I must eat her out and tell her she's bad".

I really love her Lady Charlotte's Society of Sirens series, which is like, Charlie's Angels but Victorian.

Olivia and the Masked Duke. Age gap D/s romance, bratty heroine paired with a hero who's like "I'm your dad's friend, I can't do this"... but she's obsessed after seeing him spank another woman, so she's pretty determined to make it happen.

Pippa and the Prince of Secrets. Childhood sweethearts reunite after her shitty husband dies. Hero is scarred and runs a band of child spies (I died). They're both really into exhibition and ye olde sex swing.

Fiona and the Enigmatic Earl. Feisty diamond of the season girl ends up in a marriage of convenience with a stern earl. Both of them are basically spies undercover, but neither of them knows lol. She's very bratty with him.

Glory and the Master of Shadows. Heroine gets mentored in badassery by the hero, who's desperately trying to resist her because he's Tainted and she's Fresh and Innocent. At one point he eats her out against the wall while her parents are sleeping with the door open down the hall.

You want a mafia romance? Try Mila Finelli. Her Kings of Italy series kicks off with Mafia Mistress & Mafia Darling, a duet about a girl who is kidnapped to marry this mafioso's son, but the dad like "nah, I want you, be my mistress". My favorite in the series is Mafia Madman, which is about a fucking lunatic blowing up a bar to kidnap the heroine for Revenge. He chains her to his bed and they have an enemies to lovers situation because she keeps telling him he ain't shit and he's like "sadly I am entranced by her". Mafia Target is an M/M assassin/target book, most excellent.

In terms of "contemporary sex club" books, I'd recommend The Salacious Players Club, which is about a group of friends who start a sex club (with two additional installments about the most noteworthy patrons of the club). Each book deals with a different kink--praise kink with an age gap, femdom, voyeurism, "we think I'm a cuck but actually me and my wife and my best friend are just mutually in love with each other", daddy kink, etc.

Joanna Shupe (who is also Mila Finelli) writes pretty hot historicals. I would recommend especially

My Dirty Duke. Victorian novella, age gap, heroine falls for her dad's best friend and he takes sexy old timey pics of her.

Sold to the Duke. Heroine enters an auction for her virginity to save her sister from destitution, gets bought by her dead brother's best friend who's like "I'm not going to take what I bought" and she's like "oh yes you are dude.

Her Uptown Girls trilogy is about three sisters who bop around Gilded Age NYC, getting into trouble with 1) dad's lawyer 2) casino owner attempting to ruin dad because revenge 3) powerful gangster. Very hot and very fun.

Fifth Avenue Rebels is my favorite series by her. It starts off with a house party in Newport and then continues into all the drama after. Recommending reading in order, they're all good, and they lead up to one of my favorites, The Duke Gets Even, about the uptight duke and wild child heiress who've been circling each other for the previous books. Very hot, and they both enjoy rough sex.

S.M. LaViolette (who is Minerva Spencer) writes hot historicals. I just finished her Seducers trilogy, which follows three sex workers/former sex workers from the same brothel as they meet people and fall in love with much drama and high stakes. Hot and romantic as fuck. TW: all of the books feature trauma in the past, but little to none is on the page

Paranormals? Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark, which is full of vampires, werewolves, witches, and everything else falling in love and having lots of sex across the world. Long running and pretty violent, so check your TWs, especially for the older ones.

Passion by Lisa Valdez is a really wild erotic historical romance with a hero and heroine who start fucking as soon as they meet in the first chapter. Behind a screen the first go. She has a magic vagina that his massive cock can fit into as a miracle basically.

I mean... if you're willing to go, uh, bold as fuck, Tiffany Reisz's Original Sinners is very erotic. Everyone is polyamorous, everyone is bi, it kicks off with a British editor visiting a novelist to work with her, and oops, she's a dominatrix. The central three characters are that dominatrix, Nora, her long time on again/off again lover/dom Soren, who is...a Catholic priest with a sadism fetish... and Kingsley, who owns this kink club Soren and Nora are respectively the #1 and #2 top dogs at. There is a LOT of sadomasochism in this series, a lot of kinky shit, a lot of angst, dubcon and noncon. There's also... some shit I don't think would be written today, like a good amount of underage sex, severely morally questionable relationships, and I don't loooove some of the dynamics written (Kingsley and his long-term partner Juliette make me question much). The writing is beautiful, the characters and dynamics are fascinating, but it's definitely something you should dig into before reading.

But I can't lie, Nora, Soren, and Kingsley have a spellbinding dynamic. It's fucked, but it compels me so. I will add, there were 8 original books (not standalones) and then she revived the series years later. Stop at the first 8 (and their assorted companion novellas and short stories).

When you were 20, you realized you were in love with your best friend. This realization hit you over the course of a few days when you were with your then-partner. The first day was when you just so happened to be holding hands with them while grocery shopping. A passing thought that grocery shopping with Austin would be more enjoyable right now had led to even more enjoyable if we were holding hands. You nearly stopped dead in your tracks at the thought and subconsciously squeezed your partner’s hand.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” you had said with an innocent smile.

You had pushed the idea away, far back into the depths of your mind, to never be retrieved again. No more thoughts of Austin romantically would cross your mind anymore. Until the next day. You were in the middle of kissing your partner when the image of Austin kissing you instead flashed behind your eyelids. You had to fight yourself from suddenly jumping back from the kiss, squeezing your eyes shut further to push away the visual. But, no matter what, the thought of Austin’s blue eyes fluttering closed as he leaned into you was on the forefront of your mind. When your partner asked what was wrong when you pulled away, you just said you were feeling ill. 

The third time a thought came to mind was during an intimate moment by yourself. Your partner was great in bed, but sometimes you just needed to relax. You were in bed, letting your imagination wander as your hand explored between your legs, when suddenly you pictured Austin. He was sitting behind you with you in his lap, his hand in the place of yours. Ashamedly, your imagination got the best of you, and you got off to the scenario. You cursed yourself immediately afterward, but you had never cum that hard before.

The next day you would hang out with Austin, and you were painfully awkward the entire time. You kept stuttering, misspeaking, and tripping over your feet. Every time he’d look at you, you’d blush. Austin had asked if you were okay because he noticed you were acting strange, but you quickly assured your best friend everything was fine. But everything was not fine. Every time you’d look at him, you’d think about the previous night and how it made you feel.

One of the most memorable encounters was when you were having sex with your partner and nearly moaned Austin’s name. You caught yourself before it completely slipped out, but it was enough to make you sit back and ponder what this meant. Were you sexually attracted to Austin? Or was this the beginning of a weird crush? Either way, it needed to stop. You had a partner, after all. A loving partner that you loved back. Or so you thought.

The final night of your week-long self-reflection was spent holed up in your apartment thinking. Thinking about how long you had been friends with Austin, how he treated you like you were the most incredible person in the world, all the times he was there for you, and just why why you felt some type of way about him now. Why now? Then you dove deeper into your and your partner’s relationship. And now that you thought about it, the way they treated you couldn’t and wouldn’t ever compare to how Austin treated you and always made you feel. Everything Austin did was a level ten times higher than what your partner could give you. So, for that reason, you broke up with your partner. You were now attracted to someone else. 

You decided you would tell Austin a little while after your break-up so that it wouldn’t be weird. It was already weird enough that you were starting to fall in love with your best friend. You had been so blind this whole time. But before you could wait for any time to pass, Austin called you up one night and told you everything about this wonderful girl he had met. The wonderful girl would be his girlfriend for the next nine years. 

“Pain” didn’t even touch how you felt. Regret, anger, despair, and jealousy didn’t either, and those emotions corrupted your mind. They took over your thoughts way more than Austin ever had. But you pushed those feelings away for your sanity and to stay in your best friend’s life. As time went on, the feelings did subside, but only a little. Only enough to where it was tolerable. Your non-platonic love for your best friend just became a fact of life. Even when you found new partners, that love stuck around like a thorn in your side. And what a thorn it was. No one you dated could ever compare to Austin, and eventually, they all figured that out. 

You were fast-tracking your way to thirty without anything to show for it, especially not a solid relationship. Lonely didn’t even begin to describe how you felt. But soon, a glimmer of hope would arise. After 9 years, Austin and his girlfriend split up. You were anything but happy, though. If anything, you were crushed watching your best friend struggle and wither away. The break-up was mutual but still painful nonetheless. Both of their careers conflicted with their relationship, leaving them no choice. Austin just landed a major role, playing Elvis Presley in a new biopic about the singer. And as soon as the glimmer of hope revealed itself, it soon would simmer out. Austin would be gone for a long time, and before you knew it, a global pandemic would strike too. Every stable thing that you had in your life was beginning to crumble.

The both of you kept in close contact while Austin was in Australia. Texting, phone calls, FaceTime, and sometimes written letters were your forms of communication. The fact you couldn’t see him in person only brought back up those strong feelings towards him. You could no longer keep them at bay. You often feared it was starting to make you insane because sometimes Austin would say or do something that made you think he liked you. You were genuinely scared that you were beginning to look too much into things. 

However, one night that all would change. You’re alone in your apartment on New Year's Eve drinking champagne, admittedly a little too much, when you’re met with emptiness. An utter void where your soul should be. The feeling of existential dread has been creeping up for a while. But now that you’re drunk and alone on the most social night of the year, it’s really starting to set in. You have a job in your career field that you enjoy, but it’s so time-consuming. You don’t really have any friends for that reason. You’re single and have been for a few years, because why bother? You couldn’t ever love someone like you love Austin, and it’s really starting to become apparent. The longer you sit here and sip at the alcohol, the more you think about how those few days as a 20-year-old have changed your life forever. Something in your brain had switched on and completely ruined your life. You love Austin so much, but at what cost? At this point, you need to tell him. Get it off your chest and be done with it. Even if that caused the two of you to not be friends anymore, at least over a decade of pain and suffering would finally come to a close, and you can move on. Loving your best friend isn’t a horrible thing at all, but what it’s doing to you is. 

While it’s nearing midnight here, it’s about to be two in the afternoon where Austin is. He’s probably celebrating the New Year in Australia with people, but you don’t care. You need to do this now, or you never will. You find his contact name underneath your recent calls and press it. Now that the phone is ringing, you begin to feel a little nervous. In response, you take several large gulps of what’s left of the champagne. Nothing a little liquid courage couldn’t help. 

“Y/N? Do you mind calling back in an hour? I’m kind of-”

“Austin,” you breathe out shakily, “I need to tell you something.”

“Are you okay? You sound drunk,” Austin asks, sounding concerned, although his tone is slightly annoyed.

“Yes, but that’s not the point,” you slur a little, but you’re trying very hard to focus on your words. You need to get this right.

“Can you give me an hour, and I can give you my full attention then?” Austin asks, and you can hear some people talking in the background.

“I don’t have an hour. It’s important,” you say, asserting your tone.

“If you’re about to tell me something unhinged, then can it wait-”

“I’m in love with you.”

“What?”

You squeeze your eyes shut as a wave of intense regret washes over you. You remain utterly silent, hoping Austin didn’t hear what you said or would hang up because of your lack of response.

Austin sighs on the other side of the phone, “You’re drunk.” he mumbles.

You still stay as quiet as possible, praying to anyone out there that he didn’t hear your confession, but you have a feeling he did.

“Look, Y/N, I have to go. I’ll call you tomorrow morning your time, and we can talk more about this, okay?”

You feel the sharp pain of rejection glide through you like a knife as you shakily hit the end call button without a word. Austin didn’t straight up reject you, but his reaction and hastiness to talk about this tomorrow rather than immediately told you enough. He just chalked up your confession to you being drunk. This is you exposing yourself to him, exposing your true feelings. And if he can’t address that right now, no matter what he has going on, then maybe it truly doesn’t matter that much to him. What you need to do is done, but you can’t bear the embarrassment and rejection. So when the clock struck midnight and a new year descended upon you, you decided you wouldn’t talk to Austin again. Not because of the fact he rejected you, but because you knew he didn’t feel the same, and you didn’t want to accept that. 

Austin calls you back an hour later instead of waiting until the next day. And he doesn’t stop calling, even if it’s four in the morning where you are, and he’s nearly frantic at the sound of your voicemail. The number of times he’s heard it play after several attempted and failed calls makes him panic. But eventually, Austin decides you’re asleep, and he should leave you alone. But for days after, you don’t answer his calls or texts. You essentially have shut him out of your life. It’s brought you more pain in just a week than the nearly eleven years combined. You have never felt such guilt and regret in your life. Now you have a clean slate, but is it worth it? Was it worth the only meaningful friendship you’ve ever had? It’s not like you can call or text him now; it’s been days. Austin is supposed to come home today, and you hope he doesn’t stop by. You hope he just takes the hint and will leave you alone. But life can obviously never be that easy for you.

It’s around nine in the evening, and you’re curled up on the couch watching reruns of crime shows. You’re underneath the patterned blanket Austin sent you for Christmas. Of course, looking at the blanket earlier made you feel bad, but you love it too much to get rid of it. The show you’re watching is starting to get interesting when there’s a knock on the door. A feeling of fear shoots through you because who else would be at the door right now if not Austin? It’s getting late, and you have no friends who would spontaneously show up. As much as you hate to, you get up from the couch and go to answer the door. When you pull it open, lo and behold, it’s your best friend. Now you have to talk to him.

Austin opens his mouth to speak, and you go to shut the door in a panic, but he shoves his foot in the way.

“Please let me in,” he sighs, “We need to talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about,” you say plainly.

Austin raises his eyebrows in annoyance, “You can’t ignore me forever, Y/N.”

“I can try,” you say, going to shut the door again, but Austin slips inside quickly.

He’s now directly in front of you, not budging from where he stands. You take a step back to have some sort of space between the two of you.

“Why are you here?” you cross your arms and look down at your feet.

“I came here immediately after my flight touched down because I’ve been worried sick about you,” Austin says, grabbing you by the shoulders, “Why haven’t you responded to my calls or texts?”

“I think it’s pretty obvious why,” you squint at the tall brunette, trying to pull yourself from his grip.

“Is it because of what you told me?” Austin asks, and you stop struggling in his grasp immediately.

“It couldn’t wait until the morning, Austin. I’m sorry. In fact, it had been waiting for over ten damn years!” you raise your voice, tears stinging in your eyes, “I tell you that I love you, and you ask me to wait for you to call back in the morning?”

“It wasn’t the right time, Y/N. I couldn’t go into depth with you at that moment, especially when you were drunk,” Austin says, “I wanted you to be in the right state of mind to say something like that.”

“If I hadn’t said it then, I would have never said it at all. And I kind of wish I never did,” you chuckle bitterly, shaking your head while boring holes into the floor with your eyes so you don’t cry.

“Don’t say that,” Austin whispers, pulling your face up with his hands.

There’s a solemn look on his face now that you’re looking at it, and there’s almost a twinge of hurt in his eyes.

“Why? Why does it matter to you?” you furrow your eyebrows, “It’s not like you feel the same way.”

“Says who?” Austin slides a hand behind your neck, pulling your face closer to his to get you to focus on him.

“Says me. Says your reaction when I said it,” you all but bite back, “So don’t stride on in here acting like you care because you don’t.”

“Stop acting like no one cares about you, Y/N. I do, I care about you. I fucking love you,” Austin raises his voice, and you shut your eyes from the close proximity of his near-shouting.

“Then prove it,” you say through gritted teeth, “You could be lying to me out of pity for all I know.”

“Out of pity,” Austin mumbles, looking up at the ceiling as he shakes his head, “You’re so stubborn.”

“I said prove it,” you say without skipping a beat.

Austin pulls you forward by your neck, connecting your lips to his in a feverish kiss. You’ve never kissed someone with so much need before. He’s like a mirage of water, and you’re dying of thirst. He opens his mouth to gain leverage over yours, tracing your bottom lip with his tongue. Your hands comb through his faded black hair, pulling him closer to you as you let his tongue explore your mouth. You let out a small groan from the back of your throat, and Austin pulls away, his lips ghosting just over yours.

“You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to kiss you,” he says breathlessly.

“Try ten years,” you say, nudging your nose with his.

“Try since we met,” Austin retorts.

“Why have you been holding out on me then?” you whisper against his lips. You can feel his eyelashes against your cheeks.

“I’ll explain later. Right now, I have a point to prove,” Austin gently captures your lips with his again, this time going slower with his movements.

The thought of Austin loving you this entire time made you dizzy and melancholic. For years, you could’ve been together. But there’s no better time than the present, and in the present, he’s kissing you and holding you as close as humanly possible. There are so many things about Austin that you’re in love with. There’s too many to count- there’s a reason why you love him for every freckle on his body. 

Pulling away from Austin, you remove your hands from his hair and toy with the hem of the hoodie he has on, “Guess what?” you whisper in his ear.

“What?” he asks, staring down at you with hooded eyes.

“I want to count every one of your freckles with my lips,” you drag your lips across Austin’s ear, sending shivers down his spine.

“Oh really, now?” he smirks, “Prove it,” he says mockingly.

“Don’t worry, I will,” you say, pulling the hoodie up as Austin raises his arms to help you get it off.

You toss the hoodie and slide your hands down Austin’s toned and newly tanned chest, hooking your fingers under the waistline of his pants before pulling him forward to you. 

“Is this okay?” you ask, looking up at him.

“It’s more than okay,” Austin smiles, grabbing you by your hair and pulling you in for another kiss.

You’re still standing in the small entryway that’s right by the living room, which is far closer than the bedroom. At this point, you don’t think you’ll end up making it to the bedroom anyway. Austin is a few steps ahead of you on that, already guiding you to the couch with a hand on your hip. You let him sit down first before he pulls you onto his lap, momentarily breaking the kiss. 

“Hmm,” you hum, pretending to think as you look over Austin’s body, “Let’s see how many I can count.”

You begin at his forehead, kissing every inch of skin there before moving onto his cheeks. His face is blushing so much from your close proximity and the intimacy of your kisses. You aren’t counting when you start kissing his chin, nose, and the space above his top lip. You avoid where he wants your lips the most as you pepper kisses along his jaw. After spending some time kissing every inch of Austin’s neck, you slide off his lap and into the floor between his legs. He’s beginning to grow hungry for your lips to be on his instead of everywhere else, but seeing you on your knees in front of him puts a hold on that. Austin cards his fingers through your hair as you descend down his chest with open-mouthed kisses. After you kiss his stomach painfully slow for a few minutes, Austin starts to get ashamedly hard in his sweats. 

“Should I count here too?” you ask him, your hands toying with the drawstrings of the sweatpants.

“Please,” Austin nearly whines from the lack of touch.

In one swift motion, you pull the drawstring undone before you begin sliding his sweats and underwear down his hips and legs. His erection springs free, slapping against his stomach. Slowly, you start to kiss around his hips and pelvis, everywhere but where he needed you desperately. You kiss the tip of his cock softly before your lips travel down his shaft, then you proceed to lick a long stripe back up towards the head. Austin lets his head loll back, and his eyes close at the feeling of you finally taking him into your mouth. You swallow around him until your nose hits his pelvis before you drag your mouth back up to suck on the tip. 

“Fuck,” Austin exhales, his fingers gripping your hair like his life depended on it as he cracks his eyes open to watch.

You look up at him through your lashes and fully take him back into your mouth again, bobbing your head without breaking eye contact. Austin moans loudly when he hits your soft palate, causing his hips to jerk and his fingers to grip your hair harder. 

“The number of times I’ve pictured you like this,” he moves his head back down to look at you properly, his eyes dark as he licks his lips, “couldn’t compare to the real thing.”

You pull off him before reaching out to grab the hand Austin had fisted up next to him, sliding your fingers between his. You lay your head on his thigh and gaze up at him lovingly, “Make love to me.”

Austin looks back at you with nearly just as much admiration as he runs his other hand through your hair one more time. He motions for you to stand up as he gets up and gently pushes you onto the couch's cushions. Austin hovers over you, pulling down your pants slowly. His necklaces dangle in your line of sight, and you hook your finger through them, gently pulling him into the kiss he’s been waiting for. You waste no time biting at his bottom lip before taking it into your mouth and rolling it between your teeth. Austin discards your pants and slides his hand up your shirt, humming in surprise when he finds you aren’t wearing a bra. Taking advantage of this, he massages your breast as he runs a hand down your side. When he reaches your hips, he discovers you also had on no underwear.

“You knew I was coming, huh?” Austin jokes when he pulls away from this kiss.

“Shut up,” you chuckle, rolling your eyes playfully as you run your thumb across his cheekbone.

“Make me,” he challenges, getting close to your face again.

You reach up and trace his lips with your index finger before prodding his mouth open with it, slipping it inside. Austin’s eyes are cast down to your hand as he willingly takes your finger into his mouth. You grab his hard length with your other hand, running it along your slick folds. You slip another finger into Austin’s mouth as you slowly push yourself onto him, guiding his cock inside you. His eyes roll into the back of his head at the feeling, a moan vibrating around your fingers as he sucks on them. With his hand still on your breast, Austin twists your nipple, causing you to mewl.

“That made you shut up, didn’t it?” you smirk, taking him in until your pelvis is against his.

With every thrust, you’re getting closer to your peak, and Austin can feel you tense around him.

You nod quickly, whining as he brings a hand down to your clit, drawing tight circles on it as you move your hips in sync with his. Your senses slowly become overwhelmed as Austin kisses down your neck, nipping where he can. You slowly come undone with one angled jerk of his hips as your body convulses underneath his. The feeling of you clenching tightly around him and the look of pure ecstasy on your face immediately sends Austin over the edge. “I love you,” you say, no longer afraid to acknowledge it.

“I love you too,” Austin mumbles against the skin of your chest, “How many did you count?” he asks.

“What?” you furrow your eyebrows at the question, still in a daze.

“How many freckles did you count?” Austin asks again.

You chuckle, running a shaky hand through his fading hair, “You have too many to count.”

“Maybe we can try counting again sometime,” he moves his head so he can look up at you, a playful smile on his lips.

Knowing you had the ability to explore his body and could tell Austin you love him any time you want now made waiting a decade worth it.

He’s barely had enough heats to know what he’s doing, choosing to supress them until his doctor’s lips were a thin line and they started talking about impact on his performance and making the supressants less effective.
