I think a lot about Leo’s tendency to push his way into the spotlight despite clearly being a natural in the shadows. Hell, you could argue that his worst moments are when he’s forcing himself onstage, and his best are when he does things no one notices until it’s already been done.

Helloooo, can I request something for the 2018 turtles (ROTTMNT)? The reader arrives with the guys to show them the softshell turtle they got as a gift at a school science fair. Since they're not very sure how to take care of it, they go to the guys for help. And the turtle... it looks just like the one from The Amazing World of Gumball. I just think it would be fun to see the turtles (especially Donnie) interacting with the evil turtle haha 😭

Leo is so pumped when you show up with a turtle

He’s already imagining the epic sibling turtle bonding he’ll all have, and he’s definitely scheming ways to turn your new buddy into his own personal sidekick

But as he leans in to get a better look, he catches the turtle giving him a super intense, villainous stare

"Uh, why is he looking at me like that?" Leo laughs nervously, tapping the glass of its little tank

The turtle does not break eye contact

In fact, it somehow looks like it’s plotting something

After a long, intense staring contest (which Leo loses), Leo's more hyped than ever

“Oh, we’re keeping him. This little guy’s got edge.”

He decides to call it something like "Sidekick Jr", and he tries to train it to glare on command, thinking it’ll be perfect to bring it to battle with him

Obviously you don't let that happen.

Raph’s eyebrows shoot up the second he sees the turtle

“Whoa. That turtle is… cute.”

Lying is not Raph's focus

He is all in for helping you take care of it

But as soon as he leans in, the turtle levels him with a stare so intense that Raph is slightly taken aback

“This guy looks like he could plan a heist,” he jokes, but he’s half-serious

He’s convinced the turtle has some secret agenda and will not let it out of his sight

Raph takes pride in helping you build a “fortified tank” to protect it from any “potential escape attempts.”

He even draws up “exercise drills” to help it “build character.”

He ends up calling it something like “Lil’ Warrior”

The turtle's name is Bob

And he spends a suspicious amount of time training it to recognize commands, because “A turtle like this needs discipline.”

Donnie’s reaction is extreme caution

Like... wtf? How is this turtle so ugly?

(He completely forgot that he is also a softshell turtle)

He’s thrilled you came to him about turtle care, especially because this guy is a fellow softshell

But then he notices the turtle’s… ominous glare

For the next ten minutes, Donnie just stares back, analyzing every detail

The turtle doesn’t blink

It feels like a showdown

"This isn’t just any turtle, you know," he mutters, more to himself

He immediately runs diagnostics on it, pulling out his tools to test its temperament and intelligence level, just in case

Donnie takes the turtle care seriously, sets up the perfect tank, gets the optimal UV lamp, and is constantly researching enrichment activities, but he still doesn’t entirely trust it

You catch him putting up tiny lasers around the tank "just in case."

And he insists on renaming it something like “Professor Menace” because, in his words

“Look at that face—he’s clearly up to something.”

Mikey’s reaction is pure delight. “Aw! Look at the lil’ guy!”

He immediately wants to hold it, but as soon as he picks it up, the turtle gives him a side-eye that could curdle milk

He tries everything

Offering lettuce, sweet-talking it, giving it little pets, but the turtle just stares, expression unreadable but somehow… sinister

“Why does he keep looking at me like that?” Mikey wonders, confused but determined to win the turtle’s affection

He’s convinced it just needs a bit of “good vibes,” so he tries playing calming music, talking to it about his day, and even painting a little flower on the tank

Despite the turtle’s apparent indifference

(And slightly ominous glare)

Mikey’s convinced they’re best friends

He starts calling it “Lil’ Grump,” swearing it’ll warm up eventually.

Today on the Mikey Is Not Abused news

Research shows that 78% of the “Poor Mikey” fanclub claims that Mikey is incapable of standing up for himself, whether that be because he fears further abuse, fears his brothers in general, suffers from intense depression, an abuse sort of conditioning, or *insert other incredulous views here* (Statistics may not be entirely accurate and should be used with caution).

Unfortunately for them, Mikey does knows how to stand up for himself and it has been shown that he can speak his mind to even the main abuser, Raphael, and walk away unscathed.

Astonishing claim, I know, but the facts prove themselves.

Mikey has brought up beliefs on several occasions, but his lack of awareness outside his own mind often disproves his own claims.

Years of leprechauns, cream cheese demons, and certainty in cupcake uprisings have worn down his brothers’ trust in his word on many different subjects. This is not his brothers ignoring him out of spite. This is merely because he has proven himself to be an unreliable source when it comes to reality.

His lack of interest in taking most battles and training sessions seriously grate on his brothers’ nerves and often lead them to doubt his prowess and abilities on the field. Mikey being the youngest and earning all of their must protect with life instincts doesn’t exactly help his case. He knowingly brings much of their wrath upon himself- with tauntings, and purposefully infuriating acts, and the constant reappearance of Dr. Prankenstein.

When Mikey doesn’t go gun-hoe or call Raph out for a whack on the head, it’s probably because he’s conscious enough to know he likely said/did something stupid, or because he purposefully did something annoying.

However, if he sees an injustice affect another by his brothers’ hand, he will be the first one to stand up and correct it.

Mikey is proven to be more likely to speak his mind when it comes to others around him getting retribution that he deems underserved.

IN FACT, a few of the only times fans actually see an aggressive argument/challenge poised to a brother is to Raphael, often in regards to his crass judgement.

Take Fourfold Trap as an example:

“I got the answer for you! Karai’s a lost cause!”

“Don’t say that, dude!”

Mikey shoves at Raph’s shoulder to make him face him and they both begin yelling/bickering/roughly gesturing. Mikey is in no way scared of how Raph will react to this and is immediate in getting physically aggressive and speaking his mind.

Not normally how someone who’s been abused all their life would act towards the main abuser, I think. Not convincing enough?

Well, The Curse of Savanti Romero is another:

In it, Renet is seen admitting to her mistake of letting Romero loose. Raph responds by immediately coming down on her for it, even though she understands and regrets her mistake.

Mikey has zero hesitations about jumping into the picture.

“You really are the worst time traveler ever! The worst!”

“Back off, bro! She needs our help!”

Psychology of most abusers would not point to this kind of situation going well. If this were the case- in no universe would Raphael have relented under his brother’s glare and stepped away, especially not after being shoved and yelled at in front of someone outside the family. That would be seen as a calling for punishment.

Moving away would be letting the abused assert dominance and think that they’ve gotten away with a win.

If this were really an abusive relationship, then Raphael would have had a far more violent reaction to his youngest brother butting in.

Instead, he growled, glared, and then relented. He could tell this was not an issue that could be further challenged. Mikey was standing his ground, intensely meeting his glare, and so Raph stepped away.

Now, have there been times where Mikey felt like he was left out or being ignored and that made him feel insecure?

Yes. Absolutely. Mikey Gets Shellacne is a prime example.

But, have the abusers, his older brothers, been made to share similar feelings of being unable to rely on their brothers at one time or another? Perhaps due to his direct or indirect actions? Why, yes.

Because, as hard as it is to believe, every person in that family has made mistakes when dealing with another family member. Relationships are hard. Not one person, or mutant, is perfect, and facing or accepting insecurities is always a fact of growing up.

Is this to say Mikey never stands up for himself?

No. Not even close.

Is it ever portrayed as something big and dramatic as a focal point of an episode? No. Because it doesn’t need to be.

If Mikey holding onto resentment and depression from how his brother abuse him was meant to be part of his character, it would have been a plot point in the episode where they’re literally in his brain. There would have been the slightest hint of something going on somewhere in that chaotic realm.

Instead, Mikey’s brain welcomed all of his brother with open arms.

And the true, inner Mikey runs ecstatically toward his brothers and into Leo’s open arms for snuggles, no more scared of his brothers inside his mind than outside of it.

The only time that he has thoughts of “my brothers are so mean to me I should run away” is the episode The Croaking, where he takes accountability and has the realization that his brothers aren’t the jerks that he thought they were when he ran off…

“Dude. Your brothers sound awesome.”

“Yeah. They are… Even after I trashed the house.”

Mikey doesn’t often react violently to his brother’s teasing because there’s not a reason too. He understands that his brother’s pick on him, but in reality, he picks on them too. It’s not a big enough deal to point out unless an evil planet is letting Angry Mikey consume all of his thoughts and then everything is terrible.

Mikey can stand up for himself. Mikey will always stand up for others.

I'm really sorry but I'm still slightly confused... could we get a detailed Mikey timeline?

No need to apologize, it's no problem.

So the first timeline for Mikey is Bad Toman!Mikey\OG!Mikey. That was the original timeline in which Mikey and Takemichi never met.

This is why he is regarded as the most dangerous version of Mikey, possibly, because no one knows what he's capable of. The police couldn't touch him and no one could get close enough. In this timeline, Draken dies because he got stabbed by Kiyomasa and therefore, without Draken by his side, Mikey succumbs to his dark impulses especially when he's being manipulated by Kisaki. I also wanna, again, stress that this version of Mikey never met Takemichi

The next timeline is Yakuza!Mikey, now, people do think Yakuza and Bad Toman!Mikey are the same timeline, which I also thought, until I went back and re-watched the whole first season of Tokyo Revengers. Yakuza!Mikey comes along after Manjiro and Takemichi meet.

In this timeline, Takemichi saves Draken after he got stabbed by Kiyomasa, Draken lives therefore changing the timeline from the original. The Yakuza Mikey timeline starts when Mikey meets Takemichi but ends when Baji dies. Also, Draken did still die in this timeline because Draken killed a couple people and was sentenced to death row that's why this version of Mikey also has the dragon tattoo.

Then, we jump to the next timeline, which is Manila!Mikey. This timeline begins after Baji dies, and we know this because Mikey consistently mirrors the hairstyles and tattoos of the people he lost in each timeline.

We know that Mikey killed Draken, Mitsuya, Hakkai and Chifuyu because we get flashbacks plus Mikey himself said that he killed them all. After he does that, he's shown too have long black hair, similar to Bajis and, again, the dragon tattoo on his neck, which both Mitsuya and Draken have. As seen here.

The Manila!Mikey timeline ends after Naoto shoots Mikey.

After the Manila!Mikey timeline and Takemichi returns to the past, we get Kanto!Mikey. Not straight away, but after a couple of scenarios unfold. Like the disbanding of Toman, Emma and Izanas death plus a couple other things.

After Toman fight Tenjiku, Mikey disbanded Toman because he recognized his dark impulses and his knack for violence, so to insure his friends would be safe he leaves. But then, he makes Kanto Manji Gang, by creating a new gang, he aimed to protect his friends by keeping a watchful eye over other gangs. But then, the battles of the Three Deities happen. (Kanto Manji gang, Brahman, and Rokuhara Tandai) which falls into a struggle of control between them. After Kanto Manji win, Mikey forms Bonten.

In this timeline, we get Bonten!Mikey which is when Takemichi goes into the future after the Three Deities arc and finds out that Manjiro made a new gang called Bonten, in which Manjiro is the leader.

This is the worst future according to Takemichi and Naoto. When Takemichi leaves his wedding with Hinata and goes too see Mikey, Mikey shoots Takemichi then proceeds too jump off a building, but Takemichi isn't dead and catches Mikey as he falls, sending them both far back into the past.

The last timeline is the good timeline where some people like it and some people hate it. But, in this timeline, everyone lives and has a good life. Which is where Racer!Mikey comes into play.

This is the final timeline, where everyone is happy and together. Mikey is a Racer and has all his friends and family alive with him. Manjiro isn't a gang leader or a killer in this timeline.

does rottmnt donnie dislike touch?

i have rewatched all of rottmnt and am ending this debacle once and for all (at least for me lol)

based on the two seasons, the movie and the comics (tho the comics don't really bring anything to this conversation) i think i have the answer to one of the more controversial topics in this fandom

(no, it's not the yuichi vs usagi debate, usagi obviously wins that no sweat)

so, does donnie dislike touch?

in the series, he is shown being fairly touchy with his siblings throughout the series, with some exceptions i will try to list now, tho not with proper episode names as i am not looking them up, sorry not sorry:

pilot episode, captured by draxum in a cacoon with mikey he's visibly uncomfortable and tries to get away

mikey's solo mission, he doesn't look at any of the and in response to a hug he pats mikey's head with a metal arm from his battle shell.

glued together, he's showing visible discomfort at being forced into close (touching) proximity of his brothers, tho that discomfort is somewhat elevated when they do a second go-round after the sticky foam ball got crushed

that time splinter caught everyone in a trap hanging in the lair (i think it's the forest survival episode?), he's, again, uncomfortable and the first to find a solution to their entrapment, be it on his phone

there's probably more, but that's what i remember from the series and spread out on about 60 episodes it's noticeable, but not a deciding factor, especially since donnie's also seen being fine with touch. now, the movie offers us even more of a look into donnie's relationship with touch. this list will include every instance presented i can think of, in no particular order.

during leo and raph's fight after they lost the key, donnie jumps on raph's back in an attempt to stop him from advancing in the fight, as mikey tries to shield leo. it's a very quick decision and doesn't seem to particularly trouble donnie.

after the kraang come through the portal and the turtles escape-pod out, mikey's panicking and grabbing cj, also causing him distress. donnie grabs mikey under his arms like a plushie and is shown to carry him until leo gets back with a panic attack and news of raph, upon which leo starts at cj with a fight in mind and donnie and mikey keep him away. again, no distress is coming off of donnie, no more than the regular situation call for (although he gets more logic-minded and quiet as the movie goes on with only small donnie moments breaking it up, which seems to be how he reacts to stress, but that'll be in another fever post)

he's touching mikey sometimes during the subway battle, but it's most likely he either didn't notice or didn't care, considering everything else happening in that fight (ps the kraang train is my favorite villainous entity in the franchise, give me more of the kraang train and i will give you my soul)

he's shown very visibly having sensory issues (very relatable) throughout the whole movie because of the kraang. not necessarily to do with touch, oh except for the part when he had to get EATEN BY THE TECHNODROME THROUGH HIS BARELY TOUCHED AT ALL SOFT SHELL which is shown to be a sensory nightmare and awful to touch and yes, i had night terrors if that, thank you very much.

at the very end, they all hug with no visible problems except for the fact that they are on staten island. that is to say, there's one important scene still, it happens before the end, but i wanted to have space to gush about it so here we go.

the famous scene of raph grabbing donnie and mikey flying through the air, yelling "don't worry donnie, it's not a hug, it's a rescue". probably the most important thing said in accordance to donnie's relationship with touch.

in my personal opinion, donnie doesn't mask (i mean look at his behavior) or if he does, he does it, rarely in public and even rarer with just his brothers. so every one of the hamato clan knows at least the most important of donnie's boundaries, especially related to the autism, as it's handled well within their family structure (both donnie's and mikey's autism is) . so, if raph calls out to him to warn about the hug he's giving donnie and treats it like a potential bad thing, there are really only two conclusions we can get to.

one, donnie doesn't like/hates physical contact. disputed by just about everything else in the show, except for the listed above exceptions.

two, donnie being open to touch or not is conditional. and considering the mentioned exceptions and raph's rescue from the movie, there's one similarity we can notice between them.

the touch affecting donnie is happening without his consent and without a form of escape.

(except for when donnie's hugged by mikey in his solo mission episode, but considering he's already kind of detached, i'm assuming he's just not up to it and so he uses his robotic extra arms to give comfort instead of ignoring his little brother which aww)

that's the uncomfortable part, the unpredictability and lack of a way to detach himself. aka, donnie's just like me for real. lmao.

donnie probably doesn't mind touch and welcomes it, but needs to be in control of the process and be able to leave if he gets overwhelmed. and his family knows that, hence raph's words in the movie that led so many people astray...

this might just be another evidence of how well donnie is written as an autistic character, both with his low empathy not being demonized and not preventing him from creating bonds (tho sometimes making it difficult) and the fact that the most common opinion of autistic people (that they hate touch, which is something a psychiatrist brought up as evidence of me not being autistic) doesn't apply to everyone.

as a summary, rottmnt donnie is probably the best version of donnie right now and he doesn't hate touching, he just has to touch on his own terms. extremely valid, extremely relatable.

TMNT Headcanon #6 (?? I lost count lol):

You do not want to mess with 2003 Mikey. He’s actually insanely protective of his brothers and if he finds out you hurt them, you better run

I’ve always been a fan of depth behind the “party dude” persona that Mikey has, especially 2003 Mikey. The dude knows exactly what role he needs to play to keep his brothers happy and positive, so he does so. He is the little brother, the goof- and maybe it’s okay to be something that they all aim to protect and mother sometimes. But behind the act, Mikey is far more mature and fiercely protective.

I like to think (and I wish to write a fanfic one day about this) that Mikey secretly tracks down enemies that hurt his brothers independently in secret, and intimidates/punishes them in ways that he knows his brothers won’t like. He’s a manipulator - his sly tongue often makes him control opponents and win fights due to digging into their insecurities easily (I bring up his and Raph’s battle in the battle nexus arc in particular, he didn’t have to raise a finger, which is actually pretty scary). With the right motivation, this is dangerous.

I just have this vision of Mikey finding out about the mob boss that blinded Raph and his gang, and quietly sneaking out and tracking them all down mercilessly. Here we see a glimpse of the seriousness and maturity he wears in the SAINW universe. He is quiet. He is efficient. He makes sure that they won’t be going near his family for a while, either through threats, manipulation or perhaps something a little darker, because no one should ever hurt his big brothers who have only done good. Every time he thinks to stop he imagines Raph alone and blinded, and it hardens his resolve. Family is his motivator after all. And then, as soon as he returns to the sewers, his shadowed expression lifts into a well rehearsed smile, warmed by the sight of his family safe.

I am really enjoying your Empyrean Weeping AU and am looking forward to the Donnie Arc (the brothers need to save the feral child immediately).

I have a question for you: When it comes to making au how do you know if your going “too far” with an au (if there’s even such a thing) as in that your drifting too far from the canon world, characters and story? Maybe even to the point where you can’t really even say that the au is an au of a preexisting world and not just its own separate thing. How many changes, additions or flat-out rewrites are too many?

I ask this because I’m making my own au for a franchise I really adore but I’m kinda worried about going a little too crazy with my ideas. I know that because it’s an au it doesn’t have to adhere to canon, that’s why it’s called an “alternate universe” in the first place but still.

Like- Your EW characters (and overall world) are pretty different from their canon Rise counterparts and the AU is great! Feeling like it could stand on its own as a completely separate TMNT iteration.

I just don’t know if I’m going about this right with the plans for my au. So I’m looking for a bit of advice I suppose.

Whoa. Sorry that this got so long and ramble-y.

I think….hm. This is a good question. Part of it is, there really is no limit. If you’re fine with going crazy with it…but you do still want some aspects of the characters to shine through, I’ll tell you what I do.

I tend to be really interested in the whole concept of nature vs nurture. So I look at each character individually and pick out which traits I believe are ingrained, which are learned, which grew out of necessity—like coping mechanisms…and I see what new lenses I can show them through.

Like for example, Donnie’s desperate desire to be useful. We saw how panicked he became in Witch Town, when he thought there was a possibility he’d be replaced by mystic powers…if we take that fear—put it through the angle of him being raised Draxum, and being constantly treated as though he was useless…I imagined that would make him even worse at being impulsive and causing chaos in any attempt to prove himself.

Mikey is super competitive, so I figured he would shine if thrown into the battle nexus, and be an adorable little shit about it! He’d take a lot of pride in his wins—at first, but he’s also very empathetic, and those two traits would start to clash.

What if Leo’s coping skill of making everything a joke is totally stripped from him via his strict upbringing with the Foot Clan?

Raph is the one always taking care of his brothers, what would it be like if he got more attention as an only child?

These are really basic questions I started with, and I love sneaking in little ways my boys are similar and ways they’re different to canon (like Leo hating magic instead of loving it, because of what Kitsune did to him)

If you want to keep closer to the source material, but still make it your own, figure out what circumstances call for which changes, and which aspects you think would stay in tact, no matter what they go through.

Mikey stood alone, his silhouette illuminated by the neon of a nearby sign. The roar of Kanto Manji’s latest battle was distant now, nothing but a faint echo. The blood on his hands glistened, and he remembered every punch thrown.

She was still there, waiting.

Mikey turned, his gaze landing on her. Y/N leaned against the wall, her arms crossed tightly, her face streaked with dirt and exhaustion. He never dared to ask why she stayed. It was a question he was too afraid to hear the answer to.

“You’re still here,” he muttered.

She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “I always bet on losing dogs, don’t I, Mikey?”

He stared at her, trying to decipher the meaning behind her words, but really, he already knew.

“I don’t need saving.”

“I know,” she replied softly.

Mikey Sano, the invincible leader, was nothing but an empty shell of a man. He had lost Draken, Emma, and so many others, and yet here she was, despite knowing he’d only hurt her in the end.

“You should walk away,” he said after a long silence. “I’m not someone you should bet on.”

She pushed off the wall and stepped closer to him. “Maybe I like gambling.”

Mikey’s fists clenched at his sides. He wanted to tell her to stop, to leave before he dragged her down like he had with everyone else, but he couldn’t. He wanted her there. He needed her there.

“I’ll hurt you.”

“I know.”

He wanted to scream in her face, push her away, hit her, do something to make her hate him, but instead, he reached out, his hand trembling as it hovered near her cheek.

“I can’t love you,” he whispered, the words insincere.

“That’s okay. I can love you enough for the two of us,” she replied, her voice steady.

For a moment, Mikey let himself believe it was possible. He let himself think that maybe he wasn’t doomed to destroy every single little thing he touched. But as the moonlight caught the scars on his hands, he pulled back.

“I’ll only let you down,” he said, turning away. “You deserve better than me.”

Y/N didn’t try to stop him. She knew Mikey well enough to understand that chasing him would only make him run further.

“You’re not a losing dog, Mikey. You’re just afraid to win.”

She didn’t realize it then, but as he walked away, he mouthed the words back to himself, hanging on to everything she said.

When April returned from the bathroom, battle outfit off, and the dreaded fake breasts that started this mess back on, Leo was nowhere to be seen.

It wasn’t really surprising. But it was worrying. The common room was empty of any presence, including the pets. But, there was a trail. From the front door to the corridor that led to the boys’ rooms, discarded battle gear littered the ground.

And April was stressed. When April is stressed, she cleans things. She picked them up and gently put them on a table, folded neatly, separated by colors.

“Leo, come on man ! This is ridiculous, just open the door !”

Anyone who wasn’t used to Raph would think he was angry. The tone was sharp and calm, and the constant pounding of his fist against Leo’s door probably wouldn’t help. But Raph wasn’t mad. No, he was frustrated, and worried.

Leo and Raph always sought each other for comfort, and even when they didn’t, the other would come comfort them.

To Raph, not being able to get into the room and give his twin a hug or distract him from what was bothering him, not being able to make sure he was okay… It was torture.

April wasn’t surprised when she stepped in the corridor, to see Raph’s scrunched up face in worry, constantly fidgeting, scratch marks all over his forearm. He paced in front of Leo’s room, shaking his hands with energy, suddenly stopping to pound on the door some more, and resuming when he doesn’t get an answer.

Casey, Donnie and Mikey were sitting next to the door, while Meets leaned against the opposite wall. Splinter was with them, quietly catching up on what happened and why they had to cancel patrol for the night.

Donnie was tapping away on his phone, clearly opening and closing the same app over and over again. Mikey was leaning against him, struggling to keep his eyes open, but doing his best to jolt awake whenever his eyelids dropped too low. Casey leaned on the wall on the other side, occasionally whispering something to him that Donnie would answer just as low.

April went to Raph.

“I’m surprised you haven’t kicked the door down yet. I’d thought you would all be inside.”

“We would,” Answered Donnie, effectively jolting Mikey awake for the 5th time, “but when we tried to get in, he threw pillows at us until we were far enough for him to lock the door.”

‘Plus, we don’t want Donnie to be the one that has to fix the door later’ Supplied Meets.

“But why isn’t he answering ? He should at least be answering, right ? What if he hurt himself ? We should go in-”

April slowly crept even closer to Raph, who couldn’t get his eyes off the door. She reached out to his fidgeting hands but stopped an inch or two before touching. Without sparing a glance, Raph breached the gap and held her hands tight.

“He should have answered. Why isn’t he answering, Pril ?”

His hands were a bit awkward to hold onto, as he had now started to bounce on his heels, unable to keep still until he was able to check on his twin.

Raph finally looked at her and she sighed.

She gently rubbed his hands in a slow circle motion.

“Let me try, okay ?”

Still holding one of his hand to anchor him -despite the bouncing-, April knocked on Leo’s door.

“Hey, Leo ? It’s April, can I come in ?”

“...”

“Just me, Lee. Just me.”

A beat passed, and the faintest of click resonated in the quiet corridor. Raph instinctively rushed forward, but Splinter put a soft hand on his shoulder to hold him back.

“If Leonardo wants to see just April, my son, let him see just her for now.”

“But… Dad, he’s-”

“He’s confused and hurting and needs someone, and that someone is April. Once he feels better, we’ll all be able to see him, is that okay ?”

Raph looked over to the slightly open door, then to April that had still yet to let go of his hand. He reached over with his free hand to his forearm but Splinter gently took it before he could scratch himself. His dad offered a soft smile, gently patting his hand.

Raph let the tension leave his body, sagging like a rag doll.

“Fine, yeah...”

April gave a smile of her own and after one last squeeze, entered Leo’s room, closing the door behind her.

The room was a mess. It was already a wonder she was able to see it’s mess, considering how dark it was. The only light was coming from under the door, and some blue fairy lights she didn’t think Leo knew how to turn off.

The room was filled with destroyed wigs that she had never seen before, but that were probably gorgeous before they were ripped apart, dresses that came straight from a designer closet, with some intricate patterns and embroideries that must have taken hours to make now gone to rags thanks to some randomly placed scissors cut.

Makeup stained the floors, a lipstick that was crushed by someone’s heel, a powder that spilled all over the carpet…

April cautiously stepped around the mess, sitting on the bed next to a curled up Leonardo relatively unscathed.

He hadn’t even looked up, didn’t bother twitching as she sat beside him.

“What’s all this ?”

April worried for a moment, that she shouldn’t have spoken. Maybe all he wanted was some company, not to talk about it. As the seconds passed and no answer came, but Leo didn’t kick her out, she relaxed, gently leaning onto him. If he just wanted company, then she’d give him that.

“I don’t know. My inner girl that was trying to come out before I knew it I guess.”

Leo had looked up to the mess, his snout still buried in his arms, the slightest hint of eyes shiny from tears peeking out. April didn’t know what to say to that. She never really saw Leo wearing any of these, none of his usual dresses were in the mix. He seemed mad at something he did, but that was something she didn’t know about.

But she did come here to help, and if Leo was engaging, maybe he wanted an answer ? What answer could she give ?

“Ooooookay ?”

“I’m not a girl.”

Well, that seemed to work.

“No, you’re not.”

Finally, he looked at her, and April couldn’t help thinking about how his twin acted exactly the same only moments prior.

She smiled, gently pulling him closer to her until his cheek was almost squashed against her knees. Her big brother had always loved tight physical affection, and this time was no different as he instantly relaxed against her.

“You’re a boy, always been a boy. You’re Leo, you use he/him pronouns, and you say you’re a boy. So you are. You just… happened to be a boy without the dangly bits.”

The turtle let out a dry snicker, amused by her synonym. She couldn’t see the bottom of his face yet, as his eyes that had a spark of amusement dulled again, but she hoped he smiled, at least a little.

“I-it’s not the same.”

“Okay. Do you think I’m less of a girl because I do have dangly bits ?”

“What ? No ! Of course not !”

“Then why do you think you’re less of a boy than you were yesterday ?”

Leonardo grows quiet at that. His defensive position was gone, and he was playing with one of her sleeves, his eyes drifting somewhere else as he thought of the answer. April was rubbing slow circles on his shell, chin resting on top of his head, patiently waiting.

He already seemed less distressed than before. Talking about it, putting it into words, and more importantly, having his gender reaffirmed were some important steps to take. She knew he picked her specifically to take these steps because her experience was probably the closest to his, even if it wasn’t exactly the same.

“I thought… I thought I was… normal. I guess.”

April froze, and pushed him away just enough to look at him dead in the eyes.

“Leo. I love you, you’re my brother. But there’s nothing normal about you.”

He blinked a few times, and then realization and frustration fell on his face. He threw his hands in the air in such a childish way April couldn’t contain the giggles that bubbled up.

“I know, it’s not that ! It’s- UGH ! I don’t know how to explain it.”

He crossed his arms and pouted and April pulled him back into the side hug. Quickly, his tension left and he melted like he always did when presented with physical affection.

Leo was quiet for a bit longer than before, thinking, trying to put words into his feelings, and April was happy to let him do so. The silence was familiar, comfortable, and more at ease. Not still quite relaxed, but close to it. They weren’t far to breaking down the last point Leo felt uncomfortable with.

Although it’d be better if done quickly, as she could see that Raph pacing had resumed, and were getting more frantic the longer they were in there without any information given to the outside.

Oh Leo was not getting out of Raph’s hug.

“I’m not- I’m not trans.”

It was quiet, almost muttered, and if the room was completely silent, April would have missed it. Like he was embarrassed, or ashamed to say it. Or he was scared of the answer.

“Of course you aren’t.”

He glanced up at her, eyes big and wide and confused. Like it wasn’t a possibility. Like he was doomed with a label that felt bad and uncomfortable.

“I’m not…?”

“If you don’t want to be trans, Leo, then you’re not. It’s not as complicated as everyone makes it out to be. They’re just words. If you don’t want that label, then it’s not yours. Cis Leonardo who happens to not have dangly bits, why not !”

The turtle contemplated that for a minute, letting the words sink in.

“So… I’m not trans.”

“Do you want to be ?”

“No ! I-I mean… no. No. I don’t want to.”

“It all comes down to this you know. Everything. What do you want to do, or be ? As long as it doesn’t hurt you or others, you can do anything. You can be a vigilante. You can make art on walls, you can dress funny in public, carry a plushie… Does it hurt you or someone else ? No ? Then who cares.”

They sat in silence a little bit longer, enjoying each other presence.

The last of the tension had left, and April could already feel Leo preparing to face the rest of the family, whether it’d be from the quick glance at the door, or the occasional twitch, like he was about to move but decided against it at the last second.

The turtle was fully pressed against her, soaking in the physical affection, taking it in and changing it into bravery to answer the questions of his siblings and explain how he felt about it.

Summary of some answers from today's Q&A with Ron Corcillo!

(July 29, 2023)

Bullet points are below the cut, since it's a pretty long list! Some combine multiple answers, and they're categorized for ease of reading (obviously not every single answer is included, but I tried to get most of the ones I thought people might find interesting!)

Apocalyptic Future

The turtles were fighting side by side with Cassandra when Casey Jr was born, and Leo trained him to be a warrior. Casey Jr only has brief memories of his mother from when he was very young, and he was mostly raised by Leo.

The chips on Leo's plastron are probably battle scars.

Mikey was likely the equivalent of being in his 70's. He was powerful enough that he could unlock almost any mystic ability you could think of, but using them took a toll on him physically. The more powerful the ninpo, the more potential it has to sap your energy.

Mikey can open up portals through all of space and time (as opposed to Leo, who can mostly portal over relatively short distances), but it took him a long time to get to that level of ability.

Mikey probably grew a little taller than seen in the movie, but shrank as the use of his powers depleted him. Donnie would be slightly taller than Leo, and Raph would be at least 6'6".

The characters have obviously taken hits and lost some things from years of fighting the Krang, but Leo still does have his ninpo.

They never worked out the specifics for how Raph and Donnie died, just that they lost their lives in the war against the Krang.

Future Leo was mortally wounded in his bleeding side, and that was why he didn't go with Casey to the past.

If season 2 hadn't been cut short

The sudden declaration of Leo as leader wouldn't have happened, and was more of a joke because of how abruptly the show ended. The original plan was for the transition to be drawn out over much of season 3. Raph and Leo probably would have been co-leaders for a while, and the transfer of leadership wouldn't have caused tension since Raph would like to share the burden. There might have been some situations where Mikey or Donnie took the lead, too. Ron never saw the turtles as a group where there had to be one absolute leader.

Karai would have lived for much longer, and been training the boys in person for a number of episodes.

If there was a season 3 / plans they had for future seasons

They probably wouldn't have ever taken a dark turn with the show, but may have gotten into more of an extended plot line after the movie.

The missing sister who was Big Mama's henchperson would probably have been a very disciplined super serious ninja, to the point where she's actually funny. She was going to be named after a female artist, possibly Frida Kahlo, and the turtles would have had to win her back from Big Mama by helping her to see that she had been brainwashed as a child.

Their other missing sister was going to be trapped in another dimension for years, and might have been "a little kooky" from being there so long. The turtles would have split up to rescue their sisters, but there were no definite plans beyond that.

We would definitely see Casey Jr again. Ron would love to see a spin-off where Casey and Cassandra roam the world and fight the Krang and remnants of the Foot.

It was going to be revealed that a Krang spaceship had crashed into the back of the crying titan in the Hidden City. The ship's fuel was the source of the ooze that gives the Yokai their power, and possibly the origin of the Yokai themselves. The crashed spaceship is what drew the invasion there a thousand years ago.

Mikey's powers could have opened the door to some multiverse episodes.

We might have seen some redemption from Big Mama, but then also seen her relapse to her villainous ways.

The Rat King likely would have been the next big villain. Shredder's story is pretty resolved, so they wouldn't have gone back to him, but maybe they could have revived the dark armor. There were no existing plans for Bishop, but once the turtles became better known heroes, he could be a thorn in their side. They would have done a lot more with the Krang.

Donnie probably thinks he's much smarter than Raph, so it would have been fun to do an episode where he got to see how Raph beats him in common sense and emotional intelligence.

The turtles would probably talk to Karai's Hamato spirit when they need guidance.

Season 3 would pick up where the movie left off. They would have launched a new story right away, but the aftermath would have been in the background. We would have seen how they changed as a result of the movie events, as well as how they deal with now being in the public eye as heroes.

Miscellaneous

The 2012 series was very traditional TMNT, so a big goal of Rise was to mix things up. Making Raph the leader opened up a lot of possibilities for both Leo and Raph: Raph didn't have to be angry all the time about not being the leader, and Leo was free to be cocky and fun-loving. It was a breath of fresh air for writers who had done previous TMNT versions.

As for how the turtles take after Yoshi: Donnie got a lot of his cockiness from him, as did Leo. Mikey senses that Yoshi misses his family, and that's part of the reason he always tries to hold the family together. Raph got his courage and sense of duty from him.

For Halloween, Raph would be a kitten, Mikey would be a lion, Leo would be a rock star, and Donnie would be J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Raph's favorite music is R&B, Leo's is glam rock, Donnie's is techno, and Mikey likes boy bands.

When asked about the turtles "favorite" brothers (obviously they all love each other): Mikey is Raph's favorite. As much as Leo gives Donnie a hard time, he really likes him. Ultimately, the three younger brothers all really look up to Raph.

The turtles all had their mystic powers inherently, but they didn't know it and couldn't unlock them without a little boost. Their mystic weapons acted as a conduit.

Splinter has a lot of power that hasn't been revealed, and there's a good chance he can do anything the boys can do if he really tries (which is how he could use Leo's portals). Their powers all would have grown and expanded over time.

Ron really likes fanart of the turtles, Splinter, and April in emotional family situations, as that is the heart of the show.

They didn't really get into romance in the show, but fans are free to use their imagination.

Hueso would never admit it, but he and Leo do have a close friendship.

While Ron doesn't think the show will be brought back any time soon since Nick's focus is on Mutant Mayhem (which he thinks Rise fans will enjoy, since they seem to have a lot in common), he does think it could be brought back further down the road. The most helpful thing is fans' continued support through watching, posting, and spreading the word!

I feel like both Don and Raph could have helped Leo during his ptsd arc. Raph would be the only one who understands Leo’s anger and Don would understand almost getting everyone killed in his cased killed cuz of SAINW.

To be honest, I think that's exactly what would make it difficult for them to help--or well, not by necessity, but what did make it difficult for them to help

Okay let's talk about Donny. I've thought about this one a lot. We don't ever canonically see him dealing with what he saw in that alternate universe, other than immediately after when he hugs Mikey and Raph. But we can imagine. He's already someone who puts a lot of pressure on himself (ie Underground City). Now the big threat that's been weighing so heavy on him for so long, the thing that he went to the future and saw there was no way to beat except to sacrifice themselves, is gone.

He can finally rest.

And I do feel like that's the attitude we see. He's eager to take out some aggression on the PDs when they show up at the farmhouse, but it's not Obsessive Mode Donatello. Compared to how we know he gets when he thinks something is his fault or that someone needs him help, he Chillin. Also he immediately develops a crush on Jhanna. I mean that's just one reading, but as a lesbo recovering from severe emotional repression I think I know the face of a traumatized soul seeking solace in the idea of a future and falling too hard too fast for Stronk Smort Gorl as soon as she gives him a bit of attention, not that I, ahem, have uh, direct experience or anything

Anyway

I think he's making a very deliberate choice to stop taking things so seriously--to be a kid for the little bit of time he has left to be a kid. To cling on tightly to his relationships with his brothers above all else, because he knows (and likely has it fresh in his mind) he could lose them. Goofing off with Mikey isn't a distraction, it's a priority.

And then Leo is doubling down on being child soldiers. To Donny, all that work they did was to escape that life. Taking down the Shredder should mean, from his pov, they now get to focus on just living, building themselves a little corner of the world they can just stay in and be happy.

I had a breakdown of multiple episodes demonstrating this but my app crashed and it all got deleted so just trust me ok

Big important example though: Dragons Rising. Yes, Donny understands the mission, he'll play his part to get it done, but even more pressing is to make sure he preserves the light in Mikey's eyes. Now that the Shredder is dealt with that's the next thing on his checklist to make sure that future never happens. They put on silly disguises. He wears a mustache and does an old man voice.

Then Leo doesn't see the exact results he wanted from a planned mission and chews them out for treating it like a game. I can imagine how much that remark would sting for Donny specifically, assuming his brothers know about what happened in that alternate dimension. (do you think old man Leo, listening to this sixteen-year-old insisting that they should go after Shredder again, this time they would win, ever said something, even very gently, to the effect of 'be careful Donny, this isn't a game?' y-yeah me neither)

You can hear his barely contained frustration when he defends himself and the others with, "Leo, we did the best we could."

Which is ultimately what will help Leo. That's the exact mantra that brings him through the battle with himself. But he's not hearing it from Don; to him in that moment it just sounds like an excuse. And Donny, who is also a hurting traumatized teenager, very likely doesn't appreciate his hard-earned wisdom being dismissed as childish and lazy.

Now on to Raph: he talks explicitly throughout Leo's arc about how he can see himself in it, and out of everyone, I feel like we see him most directly trying to help. He's sticking right by his side, supporting his ideas, training harder when Leo asks him to train harder. Back to Dragons Rising: in stark contrast to Donny's almost scolding comfort, Raph waits until Leo leaves and then:

"I hate to say it, but Leo's right."

Everything Leo is saying and doing makes perfect sense to Raph--as far as he's concerned, where it goes wrong is when it gets too extreme. 'Yes we do need to take this more seriously, but he shouldn't yell at us.' 'Okay training more and harder is a good idea, but how much more and harder?' He gets needing to blow off steam--he watches Leo face the rat king, and holds back (which is not an easy thing for him to do) because he thinks Leo needs to work this out of his system.

After all, that's what Raph's always done. Step outside, get some air, find someone to take it out on who deserves it so that he doesn't take it out on his brothers. But you know what else Raph is always doing when he does that?

Finding someone to help.

And that's super healthy and really healing. But it's something he does naturally because he likes to, I don't know if he's connected it with helping to manage his temper (it's easy for us to see because we're watching it, but he's living it. Hard to notice patterns when you're in the middle of them).

Anyway, blowing off steam doesn't work for Leo. Every time he faces something down on his own just further reinforces to him that he's the only one taking this seriously, and he absolutely has to be perfect in order for his family to be safe.

I think a lot about Raph, seeing Leo get mad enough to hurt Master Splinter, and then watching him be sent away. From his teenage perspective, wouldn't it feel like Leo is being punished? Wouldn't he wonder about how far he's allowed to push things, how close he might have come in the past to being sent overseas? I think Leo really needed the time for himself and understood that to some extent. He probably felt it was a just punishment as well, but I think he realized Splinter was doing what was best for him. After all, he asked for his training to go to the next level. And he doesn't want to make another mistake like that.

But for Raph? I don't think he can imagine a worse punishment than being separated from his family, especially if he just hurt one of them. That moment between Leo and Splinter had to remind him a lot of himself and Mikey. Imagine how he would've felt if the answer to that had been, 'I can't train you anymore, go to Japan to meet a man you've never heard of who will teach you how to control your temper.'

Also later on when he realizes how much it did actually help and wasn't meant to be punitive, that absolutely would twist into 'why were Leo's problems that important but mine never were.'

So why isn't Leo receptive to Raph's help? Well he is. But his goal isn't to heal. He thinks he's doing the right thing by spiraling further and further. Leo would have sucked up Raph's loyalty not unlike what Shredder did to Karai. Obviously not to the same extreme, but he would keep expecting Raph to be right behind him and work towards his goals, and Raph would've kept thinking that the Leo he knew, an undeniably down to earth Decent Guy, was still in there and would be back if he just held out and stuck around. Raph is not hard and fast with rules, he'd make allowances for his brother who is clearly going through some things. And Leo would have just kept pushing.

Wow that got dark

Anyway

They love each other very much, and ultimately, the fact that Raph did stick it out for so long was likely a big help to Leo. He just wasn't able to see it for what it was until he first shifted his priority to achieving peace within himself, instead of trying to fix the rest of the world. And I do think when he gets back, he'll remember how Raph stuck by him even when he was being very difficult. Because he really did, more than anyone.

As for Mikey, he and Leo have plenty of differences, but they've always been on the same page about one thing: the greater good.

I think Mikey sees Leo doubling down and assumes it's similar to the last time they defeated Shredder: City at War. During that time, Leo and Mikey were the ones who wanted to go out and fix the mess the city was in, stay involved in gang politics. Raph and Splinter were staunchly against it, and Donny went to support and protect the others, with him and Mikey both frequently trying to gently rein Leo in (not something they normally have to do).

Mikey sees it all happening again. Leo feels responsible for the city's safety, doesn't want to rest on their laurels, going into hyper-vigilance after a big victory as an overcorrection from overconfidence.

So Mikey leans just as hard into confidence. He's skipping on training, doubling down on the jokes, anything he can to get Leo to lighten up, or, when that doesn't work, avoid Leo whenever he can. No one likes to be constantly criticized. Just like Donny, he gets defensive: they are doing good for the city, they will keep on winning. After all, he's already a superhero, and a Battle Nexus Champion.

It makes a lot of sense he starts bragging about that again--seeking comfort from the past when the present offers none--and is unfortunate for him that Raph and Donny are just as exhausted as he is from the micro management and constant negativity, and do not take the bragging well at all.

It's also something that ends up helping Leo a lot. Directs all that energy and rage towards a goal, helps him look outside of himself by focusing on helping Mikey, balances the guilt of perceived failures (of himself and of his family) with a simple clear-cut victory. And Mikey knows it helped, he gets to see Leo being closer to himself again. It feels like he's close to a much more important victory, so he keeps pressing. He tries talking more positively about Leo, because positive words mean so much to him and are what's been missing in their home.

It helps some. It might've helped more directly after the inciting event. Either way, it's not a solution. Outside praise has never been enough for Leo, if he's decided he's not where he should be he's gonna keep pushing himself until he achieves it.

And this time 'it' is the assured safety of his family, something he honestly hasn't ever experienced before, and as far as he's concerned, takes more than all of them combined have to give

Overall, yeah I do think both Raph and Donny would've had some useful wisdom to share if 1) anyone had noticed and asked 2) they were able to separate the coping/survival skills they used to deal with their traumas from The Way Everyone Should Deal with Hard Things (big ask from teenagers--as far as they're concerned what they've been through so far is how life works).

Those conversations could've been a big help, although I don't think any amount of family talks would solve things. Leo needed the in-show equivalent of professional help. He needed time away from his family, too, so he could see more clearly what he was doing to them and himself.

I also do think all three of them will have cause to think back later on Splinter's comments that they had healed, but Leo hadn't. I get what Splinter meant by this, Leo's response was maladaptive and even immediately dangerous, but my guy, nobody's okay just a couple months after a traumatic event like that. No not even with meditation, no not even if they are laughing and playing video games. Especially considering how much those boys had already been through. Not to mention the added trauma of Leo 1) having such a drastic personality change that manifested largely as aggression towards them, and 2) being sent away. but that's probably a whole other post lsbfksjs

The four brothers land on the roof of a warehouse, adjacent to the docks. 

Sure enough, the docks looked like the aftermath of a warzone.  Crates were busted up and floating in the water.  Splintered wood, metal and litter, from various destroyed containers and their contents, clutter the ground.  A short distance away, more destruction is unfolding, and the sounds of officers shouting can be heard.

Leonardo is quick to dispense instructions, “Let’s hit them from both sides.  Raph, Mikey, you two go around and come up from the south, Donnie and I will come in from the north.  Let’s make this quick and as clean as possible.  Oh, and remember, we’ve had some drinks, so no monkeying around or going rogue!  Got that Mikey?  Raph?”

“Yeah, yeah, we hear-ya.  Don’t go getting’ ya panties in a wad mom”, the large brute snorts at his brother. 

Raph, the coin-toss drunk.  Heads you get the touchy, cuddling teddy bear or Tails you get ornery ass-hat; you never know which it will be.  Leonardo sighs internally, just his luck, ornery ass-hat wins this evening.

“Like my body, I’m F-I-N-E, bro”, *hiccup*, “Your orders are my command mi Capitán”, Mikey smiles impossibly wide, his body is swinging as he bobs his head like he hears a tune.

Ah, Mikey, the hilarious yet SUPER mellow drunk.  Not someone you want watching your back in a fight.

Great, that’s two he’ll have to keep on eye on while in battle.  At least he has Donnie to rely on.  Good 'ol reliable, quiet Donnie...wait…

It suddenly hits him, Donnie’s being too quiet.  Leo looks behind him and the six foot eight turtle is leaning on his bo-staff asleep.  Drool and all.  The blue leader hangs his head in annoyance.

The insomniac’s kryptonite is alcohol.

“Okay, one more order, don’t get killed”, Leo commands.

With a roll of his shoulders and a crack to his neck, Raph turns grabs Michelangelo by the shoulder and starts south so they can loop around for the fight.  Leo kicks the bottom of the bo staff jarring Donatello from his beauty sleep.  With some silent hand signals from the blue leader, the pair head toward the commotion.

"Ok, ok, now do this one, do this one!", Bebop instructs Rocksteady pointing at a metal container a few feet from the edge of the pier.

The large mutant rhino stands flaring his nostrils, huffs a massive breath, pawing at the ground with one foot before running full steam, head-first at the metal object. With a massive BOOM, the now dented container plunges into water with a ginormous splash.

Bebop laughs heartily, swishing his piggy tail in excitement.

"I think I'm going to need some aspirin after that one", complains the gray skinned mutant rubbing his bald head tenderly.

"Ya gonna need more than dat when we get done with ya"

The rhino and warthog duo turn right into the punch being thrown by Raphael and Mikey's wildly swinging nunchucks. The criminal couple are sent spinning and crashing to the ground.

"I think we got their attention", Rocksteady comments to Bebop as he rubs his aching jaw.

"And why do you want our attention?"

The henchmen look to the side to see that they are boxed in, the other two turtles are closing in and that pesky purple one is being nosy.

Bebop touches the communicator in his ear, "Uh, second boss, uh, they're here."

"Don't call me that!", the irritated voice barks in his ear, "my units are about to drop in, once they do get out of the way."

"You got it secon-, uh, um...n-number two"

"Moron", the single word fades out as the communicator clicks off.

The turtles square up, preparing for an all out attack. Leonardo is about to give the signal when a screaming metallic sound is heard from above.

Personality: A hyperactive individual, even when alone. Constantly on his feet, he will never go a day without singing his lungs out or initiating a battle (purposeful and accidental), whether that's with his fists, rap skills or a silly game of rock paper scissors. If you beat him in Rock, Paper, Scissors he will instantly see ya as a homie. Although he's positive in almost every situation, he's also heavily blunt with his words and says shit in front of his challenger's face to taunt them. He thinks and knows he's the shit when fighting someone, so he tends to come out very prideful or standoff-ish whenever he wins. Despite this, he takes his losses with high spirits, cheering for his challenger and hypes the both of them for a future battle. Despite dating GF and Pico in extension to her, he never cared much nor did he understand the concepts of romance, however he does deeply care for the two of them like he does with his parents, and thinks of the two as family and will show just as much affection. Oh, and people compared him to a chihuahua a lot. Despite his hyperactiveness, he cares a lot about boundaries and would usually talk a few feet away from someone (knowing how loud he is himself, people can hear him just fine). He can be mature when he needs to, but is extremely difficult to stay that way without immense fidgeting on his arm bands, halo and tail. He cannot sit still for his life.

Personality flaw: He rarely thinks before he acts, but whenever he does it's usually when a person he cares was in distress or from seeing his reflection. He's extremely stubborn to not acknowledge his eating disorder and body envy towards the people around him. He would comment of how ugly his figure is without thinking at times, which makes his friends and loved ones worry about him by accident. His hyperactive body also detriments him, being extremely fidgety and no matter how much energy he used up through the day he would still be too restless to sleep and ends up sleep deprived the next day, which is why it is one of the main reasons he thinks that food was a problem, despite having nothing but water half the time. He has been trying to calm his hyperactivity down by participating in slow hobbies but no luck so far.

Likes: Rock and punk music, singing, battles, rock paper scissors, winning, his family, his homies, playing guitar, side hugs, high energy activities, running in the rain, words of affirmation.

Dislikes: Food, flavoured drinks (he would vomit due to tasting like fruit), coffee (used to be a coffee addict when he was younger, now despises it with every fiber of his being), being reminded of his body and weight, mirrors.

Powers: Mic whip and stand melee (basic combo attacks), Mic stand sweep and dash (heavy combo attacks), Wing jump (uses his wings to jump high and fly in the air), Arrow soundwaves (screams into his mic tail to create a piercing soundwave at a certain direction), Mic ground pound (bashes his mic to the ground to create a shockwave around him when dashing down), Telekinesis (only uses it on his mic stand and other small items), Guitar manifest (His mic stand shapeshifts into an electric guitar and shreds the arena stage with a sick tune, knocking back enemies and does small continuous damage), Teleportation (Uses his halo to open a portal, he cannot jump through AUs with it).

Backstory:

Ares, the world where myths, folklore and tales overpopulate the planet. Harpies and dragons soaring through the air, giants roam the mountains as people of the deep sea rule the waters. Human was never a concept in this universe, and yet they're often quite emotional for such mystical beings. Their beliefs in plain sight through their entire existence.

Mikey and his family were no different. Throughout his younger years he was very much known to be a shy kid. His father didn't bother to take note of that, too busy protecting him from any type of harm after his late mother passed away. Of course, since he was an angel, his thoughts had reasoned him that he was the reason she passed. She had given her life to him, and he must repent in unconditional love to his family. It wasn't out of pessimism, it was only a matter of fact. Through this, he would idolise his father, wanting to follow his examples and become a great guardian angel just like him.

7 years old

As he walked to his school and past the university, he couldn't help but indulge in the sin of envy as he watched the older students walking along the pavement and from the crossroads. They were all adorned in handsome or gorgeous clothing, accessories, makeup, whatever fashion style you can think of, and above all else were their body physiques. He can't help but envy them. Heavens, even looking through his own family photos he was envious of how well dressed they were.

Unconsciously, he hugged himself by the sides, standing next to the stop sign as traffic continued in front of him. All he was wearing was a plain polo shirt with shorts and clean blue hair. He shouldn't be thinking something so sinful like this but here he is, jealous of the people around him. He…he needs to do something about this. He remembers his dad always drinking coffee whenever he worked in his office room, it seemed to be what had helped him to get through the day, maybe it would help him as well…

13 years old

He had been drinking the beverage almost daily, for all 3 meals. The caffeine had helped him exponentially, it had made him more energetic, more outgoing, more social. It made him curious of multiple hobbies he had never considered trying. He had made many friends with his classmates and people outside of school, he even made his dad pay attention to him and smile for longer than 1 second.

He had been riding this high for so long he never noticed the side effects at first, his mind obsessed in the world of dueling, a well known and beloved sport amongst various creatures. He would take any opportunity to participate in one, every match being different than the last. He felt accepted in a way, he wouldn't trade this feeling for the world.

15 years old

He felt awful.

Everywhere on his body felt awful, it felt like he had puked everything and his stomach out of him. He had tears fall uncontrollably from his eyes, had he hurt someone? Of course he did, why would someone hate him if he hadn't hurt them. He didn't even know who he had hurt. But right now he felt too weak in the little bathroom he'll be occupying for the rest of the night, he felt his growing tail curling behind him.

This was his punishment, wasn't it. He had engulfed himself in the sins of gluttony, envy and pride, and now he's paying for them immensely. His father looked so ashamed of raising such a child, he should've let nature take its course, he should've just gone with the flow like the other angels. If he did, he wouldn't be in such a state right now.

He needed to go for a run, he can't…bear staying still like this. But he deserved it. He knew this.

19 years old

A duel ring tournament had started again this New Year. His halo hummed as it reflects the summer rays, his tail swaying behind him with an overwhelming excitement to each swing. Right! New year, new him! He fiddles with the spiked bracelets on his wrists as he waits in line to enter the tournament.

"Mikey?"

A familiar voice had perked his ears up as his entire body practically spun towards the direction he heard it from.

"St-Stacie?"

The New Year tournament was being held at his college sports field, and only the students attending it can participate.

"Oh my gosh, Mic! It really is you!"

"W-Wait a minute-!"

She would pace herself into a girly jog, with Mikey unable to react fast enough he was quickly swept off his feet into a tight bear hug, causing a scene in the line. If Stacie's here doesn't that mean-.

"Oi we're in public, Stace. We are not getting fucking kicked out the moment we got here, for fuck's sake."

As expected, Derrick was right behind her as he picked up the both of them from the 1v1 participation line. Once they were in an unoccupied spot, the dino finally sets his partner and old friend down.

"Oh come on dearie, aren't you also excited to see him?"

To prove her point, she softly pinched the bewildered angel's cheeks pulled them gently, accentuating his adorableness.

"H-Hey! Cut it out man, it hurts!"

He patted the pinching hands away from his face but couldn't hold in the giggle from his initial shock. Honestly, he didn't expect his two old friends to be his seniors, but at the same time relieved to see them again after 4…5 years? But the most unexpected was they were now chatting with each other as if his sudden absence had never happened, talking about each other's subspecies and online gossip (mostly from Stacie) on social media. Of course, their light hearted reunion had to end soon.

"I'm probably not the best person to be sayin' this and all, but ya look…ugh, fuck it, ya look like you'll snap in half in a second. Is…everythin' alright back home, Mic?"

Ouch, that…slightly stung, Mikey had to admit. Sure he was blunt himself, but Dee takes the whole cigarette and drags it like it's honey to his lungs. However, it was obvious that the reptilian meant well. He can't blame him for mentioning the obvious.

"Derrick, that was rude!"

"I'm sorry sweets but I had to say it out."

"At least frame it nicely.."

"H-Hey guys! It's fine, really!"

His two close friends looked back at him with both concern and wariness. Mikey never really talked much about his family to them, only hearing the obvious admiration he has to his father. Despite the many good things he had spouted about his old man, they didn't exactly bought it, even if they were genuine. Almost out of habit, he rubbed the back of his neck, fiddling with his choker nervously.

"Uhm, so you guys are also taking part in the tournament?"

He was deflecting them, making the two all the more worried of their close friend and crush. As much as they want to push on the sensitive matter, today is supposed to be a joyful occasion for the New Year. With reluctant looks between the dating couple, they decided to go along instead, lest they'd lose him again like before.

"Oh, yea. We were just about to head over to the 3v3 line and planned to find our last teammate after booking!"

"Wait, don't they usually asked for names first before booking?"

"Well, yes..! Oh! Buuut if you join us then we'll have a full team again to take part! Don't you agree, Dee?"

It was surprisingly good luck in disguise when they received that sudden text from their missing teammate being unable to join. She lightly fluttered her lashes at her partner in a mocking plea, to which she was given with an eye roll and a small smile (ignore the slight blush to his cheeks).

"Yea, yea I do. You'd bring em along anyway without me needing to say shit really."

"Hehe, oh you know me too well hun!"

"Uh, hellooo?! Don't I get a say in this?"

Out of exaggeration, Mikey pointed at himself with an offended look of being ignored by the couple. Stacie couldn't help but giggle and grabbed his hand gently, their fingers intertwining perfectly together. With a bright smile on her face, you'd almost forget she's a demon.

"Nope!"

Almost.

Although he wouldn't admit it right now, it was nice to see these two again, glad even. Hopefully he doesn't mess up their friendship again like before. He'll need to try at least.

Additional notes:

You can add different piercings and face accessories on him if ya like.

His other eye is there, it's just under his halo.
