[Cross vs the Xenomorph]

Here's my new illustration for the comic group I co-run: Myriad Anthology, where characters face off (or have to survive) encounters with horror icons across history!

An image like this has been a long time coming, for multiple reasons. I've always wanted to have Cross go up against a Xenomorph, and I've always wanted to take a shot at the iconic style of Mike Mignola. The style he made popular with the Hellboy comics has always stuck out to me, and this was the perfect time to give it a shot.

The notes are beginning,, I did two pages tonight understanding the basics in Mignola’s work with shadows to create simple yet visually appealing composition. For now, I’ll be applying small features of his art style to my own style and characters. While I do want to recreate panels and fully study specific frames within his comics, I have to wait for my local library to have the two Mignola comics I’ve put on hold so I can see the physical copy (and have more variety in what I have on hand).

For those interested, I’ve borrowed Hellboy: Omnibus Volume 2, Strange Places and Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook.

A lot of the physical sketches and notes won’t be posted (unless people want me to, ig) but I will, hopefully, create some digital sketches of my style mixed with various techniques Mignola uses in his work.
