WGA's asking people interested in all the tree law fun to also sign this petition about a god damned bitch of an unsatisfactory situation on another street on the Same FUCKING lot. NBC Universal (whose CEO is Mike Cavanagh just btw in case Ron Pearlman is listening) has started a construction project that completely removed the sidewalks from five different gates, in two cases forcing pedestrians to literally walk into oncoming traffic. In addition to being an ADA violation, it's just flat out despicably evil of them and WGA's asking for public support on this issue.

Marita Vlachou at The Guardian:
Comcast, the parent company of NBCUniversal, on Wednesday announced the spinoff of many of its cable TV channels, including MSNBC, carrying out a plan the company had hinted at earlier this year. In addition to MSNBC, the portfolio of the newly created company titled “SpinCo” will also comprise CNBC, USA, Oxygen and E!, among other channels, as well as digital assets, including Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes. Those assets made about $7 billion in revenue in the year that ended Sept. 30, the company said in a press release.
Bravo, the NBC broadcast network, the Peacock streaming service, Telemundo as well as the theme parks business and film and television studios will remain part of Comcast. The Wall Street Journal was first to report the transaction was imminent. Mike Cavanagh, the president of Comcast, said the move will enable “both SpinCo and NBCUniversal to play offense in a changing media landscape.” “Taken together, the entirety of NBCUniversal will be on a new growth trajectory, fueled by our world-class content, technology, IP, properties and talent — all working in concert with each other as an integrated media company,” Cavanagh said. Mark Lazarus, the outgoing chair of the NBCUniversal Media Group, will serve as chief executive of the new company. The process is expected to be completed in about a year, the Journal reported earlier.
Comcast spins off nearly all of NBCU’s cable networks, including USA, CNBC, MSNBC, and E!, into a separate spin-off company named SpinCo. NBCUniversal will retain NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, and Peacock as its key assets.
Splitting off CNBC and MSNBC, and possibly USA, from NBCU, is a disastrous decision, mainly due to newsgathering resources being shared (MSNBC and CNBC) and sports coverage (primarily USA, but also some CNBC).

KHALIIFAH WILLIAMS, plain text under the cut.
Execution is a medieval term. If it was done with rat kings and breaking wheels and cangues,
you’d recognize this act as violence,
wouldn’t you?
If an innocent man died by the swing of a guillotine knife,
you’d get your ass off the couch.
In fact, you’d already be rioting,
taking the scythe out of the executioner’s hand and slitting his throat with it.
Paris would be burning. Paris would be hungry for parliamentary blood.
Instead, we pushed papers and faxed pleas,
and this did nothing to stop the needle from dropping.
A man died today. Men die everyday, yes,
but Marcellus was murdered by another man, a doctor, and that doctor
was told, legally, to do so by your so-called Supreme Court
and ‘democratically-elected’ Governor Mike Parson.
Not by the jury, who said no.
Not by the victim’s family, who said no.
Not by us, who screamed and begged and called and lettered.
If this were any other death, in any other context,
without the heel of the boot on our necks, we’d be rioting, right?
We know what righteous anger is. This is it. So please,
stop questioning. Stop wondering.
You and I both know what is required of us.
When I tried to Google his last words, nothing would come up.
Not even his words get to be his own, much less his life.
So the rest of this poem is not about me, or you, or any of us.
But Marcellus Williams, who died at about 6pm but lived for 24 years in a cage
funded by our money, our time, our ignorance, our need to live under racial capitalism rather than destroy it.
Pro-lifers like our Justice Cavanagh or Justice Thomas like to talk about
life’s potential, how a purged fetus could be capable of so much
if only it lived.
Think about what one man could have done with 24 years,
what he could have done with the decades he naturally had left.
A man whose last words were:
All Praise Be to Allah In Every Situation!!!

Comcast is expected to announce a plan Wednesday to spin off its cable networks into a separate company, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News. The split would cleave off some of NBCUniversal's best-known brands, including MSNBC, E!, Syfy, Golf Channel, USA, CNBC and Oxygen, which now face the same cord-cutting challenges as many other major cable channels. The spinoff plan was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Comcast had announced during its quarterly earnings call in October that it was considering spinning off its cable networks. President Mike Cavanagh said at the time that the company was exploring creating “a new, well-capitalized company owned by our shareholders and comprised of our strong portfolio of cable networks.” He added that NBCUniversal’s broadcast network NBC and the streaming service Peacock would remain with Comcast. Comcast owns NBCUniversal, which is the parent company of NBC News.

Comcast to Spin Off Cable Networks Amid Ongoing Subscriber Losses
Tumblr media
Comcast has revealed plans to spin off its portfolio of cable networks, including CNBC, MSNBC, E!, Syfy, Golf Channel, USA, and Oxygen, into a separate entity. This announcement follows discussions from the company’s October earnings call, during which President Mike Cavanagh hinted at the creation of a standalone company for these networks. The new entity is expected to generate around $7 billion in revenue for the previous year. Mark Lazarus, NBCUniversal's chairman of the media group, will lead the new company, with Anand Kini, NBCUniversal's CFO, serving as its operating chief.
The spin-off is anticipated to take roughly a year to complete. Additionally, some of Comcast's digital assets, including Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, and Sports Engine, will also be included in the spin-off.
Comcast’s broadcast network, NBC, along with the streaming platform Peacock, will remain under NBCUniversal and continue to operate under the parent company's umbrella. While Comcast CEO Brian Roberts will retain financial stakes in the new entity, informally known as "SpinCo," he will not be involved in its day-to-day management.
This move to spin off the cable networks is seen in light of the growing trend of “cord-cutting,” where more consumers are abandoning traditional cable TV for streaming services. In the third quarter of 2024, Comcast alone lost 365,000 TV customers, part of a broader industry-wide drop of around 4 million pay TV subscribers in the first half of the year. Despite the decline in traditional TV subscriptions, Comcast’s cable networks remain profitable, with the media segment seeing a 37 percent increase in revenue in Q3, largely driven by the Tokyo Olympics. Musk 'Jokingly' Considers Purchasing MSNBC Network As Ratings Continue To Drop: 'How Much Does It Cost?'
Tumblr media
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump speaks alongside Elon Musk (R) and Senate members including Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND (C) before attending a viewing of the launch of the sixth test flight of the SpaceX Starship rocket on November 19, 2024 in Brownsville, Texas.
Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and an expert in the fields of technology and space exploration, is seemingly considering purchasing the left-wing MSNBC network, which is owned by Comcast.
MSNBC’s ratings have continued to fall since the 2024 election, and the network’s parent firm is now reportedly attempting to sell it along with its other media holdings, such as CNBC.
Meanwhile, the son of the 47th president-elect, Donald Trump Jr., publicly reached out to Musk on X, telling him to buy the “failing” network, which sparked a flurry of back-and-forth conversations about Musk’s possible offer for MSNBC.
“Hey [Elon Musk] I have the funniest idea ever!!!” Trump jr. posted on Friday.
“How much does it cost?” Musk responded.
“The most entertaining outcome, especially if ironic, is most likely,” Musk continued, while adding a laughing face emoji.
This week, the total projected value of the networks Comcast proposed spinning off into a new publicly traded company, which include USA Network, E!, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, among others, is $8 billion. This amounts to around 18% of the 2022 price Musk paid to purchase Twitter, now known as “X.”
“The transaction will be structured as a tax-free spin to existing shareholders,” Comcast President Mike Cavanagh said. “While we don’t have a precise timetable for completing the transition, we are estimating that it will take approximately a year.”
Over the last few years, MSNBC and other major corporate news networks have experienced ratings difficulties in comparison to previous decades.
Following Trump’s overwhelming presidential election victory, MSNBC viewership declined even further.
The left-wing network’s flagship morning show “Morning Joe” has particularly seen a disastrous rating slide in the past week, losing 16% of its viewership since Monday, according to a report published earlier on Friday by the National Pulse.
Many suspect that this is due to the hosts, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, announcing their recent travels to Mar-a-Lago in Florida in order to “restart communications” with Trump.
“Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with President-elect Trump,” host Mika Brzezinski said. “It was the first time we have seen him in seven years.”
Since a large majority of MSNBC viewers loathe Trump, the 47th GOP president-elect, they could view the talk show hosts’ decision to meet and discuss media with Trump as the network turning their back on them.
Since the presidential election on November 5th, MSNBC has lost over 1.1 million viewers, which is a 54% decrease in overall viewership.

Todd Spangler at Variety:
Comcast, amid the upheaval in the TV biz caused by cord-cutting, is considering spinning off NBCUniversal‘s portfolio of cable networks into a new publicly traded company. Comcast president Mike Cavanagh announced the exploratory plans on the conglomerate’s Q3 2024 earnings call. NBCU’s cable networks include Oxygen True Crime, Bravo, MSNBC, CNBC, USA Network, E!, Syfy, Universal Kids and Spanish-language channel Universo.
“As you know, we chose not to participate in the M&A process around Paramount in the earlier part of this year, but we would consider partnerships in streaming despite their complexities, and like many of our peers in media, we are experiencing the effects of the transition in our video businesses, and have been studying the best path forward for these assets,” he said. Cavanagh continued, “To that end, we are now exploring whether creating a new well-capitalized company owned by our shareholders and comprised of our strong portfolio of cable networks would position them to take advantage of opportunities in the changing media landscape and create value for our shareholders. We are not ready to talk about any specifics yet, but we’ll be back to you as and when we reach firm conclusions.”
Cavanagh said the hypothetical spinoff would include cable TV networks and not NBC’s broadcast operations. He indicated Comcast is still early in the process of doing the due diligence about such a transaction.
NBCU’s cable networks could be spun off separately from the broadcast channel NBC and Peacock.
