Tom Cruise 30 Day Challenge

Day 1: First movie of his you remember seeing.

okay. okay so i swear i’m not making this up. and i’m so mad about this bc i DIDN’T REALIZE IT until i sat down to think about it for this challenge. but.

so like i didn’t watch a lot of live action movies growing up, and bc of that as i grew older i was adamant about only caring about animated movies. so for a long, long time i didn’t watch ANY live action movies other than the occasional Parent Trap or Babe (the sheep herding pig movie) or Stuart Little. you know. family stuff.

but in 2011 bc of my existing love for sherlock holmes and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows coming out, i start really getting into live action movies. and the actor who i got interesting in was Robert Downey Jr. and so i went on a mission to watch as much of his filmography as i can (i never did finish it)

you see where this is going. you realize the conclusion to this.

anyway the first movie of Tom’s that i remember seeing is Tropic Thunder

granted i didn’t care about his character then but i’m just. i’m LAUGHING at this turn of events. what the fuck. i guess some subconscious part of me imprinted on the movie like a lost ducking and remained dormant for 10 whole fucking years before bursting through my chest and taking over my brain. I WAS NEVER FREE.

(the first movie actually starring him that i saw was Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. after i grew out of my RDJ phase i happened to see that MIGP came out on DVD and noticed that the director is Brad Bird, who i knew bc i’m a diehard pixar stan. and then the rest, as they say, is history.)

were i a more capable person, i would be able to balance writing migp with real life and studies, but alas....

but I definitely haven't let go of that fic, yeah!! so it'll be back! one day! yeah!

He tries to move, realizing his hands are tied.

Why are they tied?

As his foggy brain seems to get clearer, so do the voices.

“It’s Ethan fucking Hunt, he’s the highest there is.”

Ethan stills, stifling a moan of pain as he does his best not to make his apparent company know that he’s awake. They seem to know who he is though, which isn’t a good sign.

The obvious conclusion here is that he’s been kidnapped.

I can't stop thinking about how Ethan blows Benji a kiss in Ghost Protocol. Like it could be excused as the ASL for thank you, but on listening I am actually pretty damn sure you can HEAR him blow it. Like that's some amazing stuff and now this is all I can think about, please help; I am in benthan hell.

okay so I have two very different theories about this but they both cause me to lose my goddamn mind

1. Ethan Knew It Was Benji

so like this is more unplausible but I can pretend it's True in my Heart. Ethan Knew that it was Benji freeing him, because Benji played A Song that's an inside joke between them. maybe they bonded over this song somewhere between the end of MI3 and Ethan and Julia faking Julia's death. and knowing this Ethan knew he could barter and argue with the tech on the other side, and he was comfortable stalling and even blowing a kiss. bc it's Benji. but he always assumed that Benji was in a safehouse somewhere controlling things remotely. never in a million years did he expect him to be out in the goddamn field driving the getaway van

2. Ethan Didn't Know It Was Benji

look so like Ethan knew a Team was dispatched to extract him but he didn't know who was going to be on that team, he didn't know Jane, after all. the song was just an agreed upon signal from the IMF briefing he was sent. BUT THEN THIS IS LIKE. ETHAN JUST?? BLOWS A KISS TO A RANDOM TECHIE HE DOESN'T KNOW???? ETHAN. WHAT THE FUCK. ETHAN MATTHEW HUNT WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK-

here from migp, i dont really like reader inserts that much but you pulled it off so well lolol. your writing style is hella charming and i love seeing the drawings you include, too! everyones dynamics are so fun and you never miss with the chapters. it’s really nice reading a fic where the reader’s gender neutral *and* doesnt have the (y/n) thing lol, especially coming from a nb (masc-leaning) person :) keep up the good work and i hope youre doing well mate
