Retired New York City Police Department Lieutenant Gustavo L. Vila served the NYPD for 20 years. Gustavo L. Vila earned a Rookie of the Year award in his early years of service as a patrol officer in New York, and he later moved into investigative roles when he became a sergeant in 1987. In 1992, the NYPD officer became a lieutenant and worked with the Office of Chief of Patrol. He served as a liaison between the police department and city hall on certain legislative matters, and advised police commissioners and other local leaders in later years. Though he retired from service with the NYPD officially in 2002, he continues to advise its leadership on certain matters. The lieutenant studied at the F.B.I. National Academy in Virginia before attaining a JD from the Fordham University School of Law. He is a Man of the Year-winning member of the State Fraternal Order of Police and belongs to the American Association for Justice.

After serving 20 years with the New York City Police Department, Gustavo L. Vila officially retired from the force in 2002. Gustavo L. Vila is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association. In mid-May 2017, the New Jersey State Bar Association welcomed Robert B. Hille as the organization’s new president in a ceremony held in Atlantic City. A widely respected attorney, author, and lecturer, Hill serves as a partner with McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter in Morristown, New Jersey. Under his tenure as bar president, Hille stated he will focus on the organization’s legislative priorities in an effort to make sure that smaller firms and individual practices have just as much opportunity as larger firms. He also said he hopes to use his position to reduce barriers to service for veterans, making sure they get the legal help they need. Lastly, he looked to past presidents as an example in casting his vision for the future, understanding that his role has an impact on many members beyond his everyday reach.

Retired New York City police lieutenant Gustavo L. Vila is the founding partner of the firm Gustavo L. Vila, Attorney, and president of property management company GLV Properties, LLC. A long time resident of New York City, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. The FBI National Academy is a 10 week professional program conducted at the agency’s campus in Quantico, Virginia. Admission is through a nomination process and by invitation only. Nominated by their agency heads, attendees are local and international law enforcement administrators who have proven leadership qualities. Coursework includes management science, intelligence theory, law, forensic science, behavioral science, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, and law enforcement communication. The aim of the program is to improve the delivery of justice and elevate law enforcement standards, cooperation, and knowledge throughout the world. The final physical test of the program is known as the Yellow Brick Road, a demanding 6.1-mile run across a rolling, wooded trail featuring wall climbs, window jumps, rock scaling, and muddy water with low-lying barbed wire. The course was constructed by the Marines, who placed yellow bricks around the route as guides. Those who complete the course are given an actual yellow brick to mark their achievement.
