Every week a new wave of twt refugees arrive and so I decided to put together a tumblr 101 to keep ur experience the most stress free and safe as possible

So here it goes:

You can delete comments or plain out disable comments from your posts! So much control.

You can also edit your posts. It even was a meme back on the olden days where a post would go viral and then the op (original poster) would change the post to something silly and the reblogers would look like wierdos or dumdums lol

You can disable your asks or make a rule so people can't ask as anonymous

Report spams!! You can even get rewarded for it. But, even so, report it, they get immediately taken down temporarily

The report system work and the tumblr team is very responsible when investigating an account/post. It's not nuance and easy to make. No one will judge you for it, in fact, it's common culture to do so. It's how we battle pornbots, spams, hate blogs etc.

You have full control of your blog! What people can see, what it can show, block hashtags and the whole shbang.

The algorithm works! Only the things that YOU search for and like will be recommended to you. And if something u no longer has interest in shows up? Just click that u don't want anymore and immediately everything u don't want goes away.

There are many famous blogs that are fun to follow, specifically as newcomer, to really get u on the tumblr experience such as: heritageposts, thebootydiaries, hotboyproblems, showerthoughtsofficial, fartgallery, haikubotofficial and many others. These are just the ones I followed when first arrived back in 2016;

You might have noticed a lot of blogs with blue verification badges. Some with 20 of them. Some are rainbow! That's because Tumblr made a parody of the verification mark from twt and it was fcking hilarius. We loved it so much that it's a thing now. U too can feel very important if u want!

It's worth going the trending tags. Sometimes they are broken, but it's mostly memes or important world news stuff that are actually relevant and helpful. It's safe and you'll have a fun time lurking on other people's fandoms. That's actually how I got into some of my fandoms to begin with;

As someone who just reblogs posts without saying anything, the reason I don't say anything when I reblog them is because one part, I often have nothing to say. And the other part is that most of the time when I comment on a post by reblogging it, the original poster never sees it or interacts with it. I feel like I'm screaming into the void, too.

I'm not trying to call anyone out, I'm not trying to shame anyone. Your point is still valid--it is 100% reasonable for you to feel the way you feel. I'm just providing my excuse for why I don't generally leave comments on your posts or on your blog. I'm pretty new to the fandom and pretty low on the fandom totem ladder, I think I'm one step up from an unknown. I don't get interaction most months, either, and I know that my interacting with anyone doesn't count for anything.

And second of all, you aren't a nobody. There are no hierarchy in fandom, (and anyone who says they are some kind of higher tier is a bit of a cunt imo) I value a good commenter/reblogger the same as a would an artist or writer.

I will mostly post art, oftentimes the finished products but I might end up posting sneak peeks as well. I also, from time-to-time, post writing blurbs, which often are created using a prompt and not related to any of my written works. I also might post a meme or two, or a few pictures I took. I also tend to reblog some things, if they're important or if I absolutely love and adore that post.

Most of what I draw is going to be Undertale-related. You're especially going to see a lot of skeletons on here, since I draw those the most.

Fanart: I'm a-okay with fanart of my characters, but unless I personally know you, please ask first, I'll most likely say yes! (Keep it clean though.)

Request Drawings: I'm fine with drawing requests (via ask box) but don't expect anything fancy or top tier... It'll most likely end up as a sketch (whether colored or not.)

okay.. so this is going to be long because it's something that has been hurting people I know on here a lot lately.

I saw a reblog you did to a post someone did on here today about Five, and originally when I read this particular post this morning, it made me feel bad. I know it was just their opinion and they have every right to it, but the way they wrote it was just so, "Everyone else who doesn't see it this way is wrong."

Your reply in your re-blog was what I think we all need to hear.

I'm being a wuss-bag by saying this anon, but I don't want to get into it with people on here.

I would make this comment on the post, non-anon, but I have already had so many shitty bullying anon asks sent to me about my posts that I do for anon replies, and on many of my other posts where I am just trying to have fun and be creative. People have also come after me non-anon about me writing stories with Five in romantic situations or because they think my other posts suck. I am just trying to avoid more of that mean stuff and the back talk from these guys that they do in their other posts that they may or may not think don't get send around to all of us.

Message to them-we do see them. It's a relatively small community within the TUA fandom.

Mostly, I just want less hate and judgement going on, and your reply was a great way of explaining another way to look at this that includes everyone, and I really really appreciate that.

I just wanted you to know, that there are so many people out there that feel bad about this stuff, and that they and I agree with you. I support you and I think that you made very good sense without being mean to anyone.

I also just wanted to say how brave you are for speaking up to make the very good point that, yes, Five Hargreeves as a fictional character may be aroace, or maybe not so much, or maybe somewhere in-between on all that, just like so many real people are. But he also very much could have had real romantic feelings of intimacy with Dolores and he could have those same things with someone else if given the opportunity and time to get there.

Five may be into girls, or guys, or both, or no one. He may like blondes or pink haired people or banging aliens with two heads for all I know. He could be autistic. Fuck it, he could be anything because he's a fictional character we can all bend anyway we want and project our own beliefs and feelings on. That's the point of fanfiction. The show and comics lay out stuff pretty clear about Five on emotional stuff and all that relationship stuff, be it with Dolores or chicks he is hitting on, or his family, but still all of that is up to interpretation by the many viewers out there and it's all good. That's the big picture.

People need to stop putting down others on here. It's all good guys!

I see posts on here all the time by people saying cruel things about different ships they don't agree with, or about other users tastes, either intentionally or maybe not intentionally, and they do it because when the people they don't agree with dive into the fictional world of Five, they see him as someone capable of anything, and often times this includes a romantic relationship with someone real.

And yes, I see Five's interactions with Dolores romantically, and I might be wrong on that, but I do. Even well after Five was out of the apocalypse and he came to her, he missed so badly. He feels things for her whether she is real or not. It's real to him. It's heartbreaking but real. Five kisses her and says mega romantic things to her in Italian in season 3 when Jamie spits on him. That was in his head. His thoughts. His desires. His feelings coming out in that scene. She didn't make him do or see that. I thought it was sad and beautiful and only made me love the character more. I think Five has more heart than any of them-capable of so much love if he's only given the chance to give and receive it. Like you said, maybe somewhere down the line, Five could have that. I hope he does, but even if it's not romantic or physical love, that's perfectly fine to. I can bend my brain to see anything.

I have seen it called disgusting to think Five capable of physical forms of love and intimacy that are romantic or sexual in nature. I have seen posts bashing the writers and the people that read anything with him in these situations. There's many on here making posts for the soul purpose of calling other people on here disgusting for envisioning Five as someone with infinite love of all kinds. They say they are sickened by all the Five X reader insert pairings tags, and they are horrified by people out there who want to envision a part of themselves in these stories with Five. All sorts of tags have been called disgusting and really, if they feel that way and don't want to see it, then you can filter tags you don't like so you never see them. Why not do that instead of bashing people who have done nothing to you.

I often wonder how they would feel if they saw posts saying what they thought or wanted to read or buzz excitedly about was disgusting?

I think they'd feel judged and pissed and sad. And they wouldn't be wrong.

I think it is sad to tell anyone else that what they feel is wrong. I don't think that is exactly what the post I am referring to today was doing or trying to say. I think that person who wrote that is a very nice person and a great writer, and they love the show and the character, and they are just trying to answer the question as it was put to them, as in how they see Five. They just didn't see the potential for the hurt that could be taken with the way they wrote that reply. Again, it was an ask reply, and they were just giving their answer, but I see and feel the pain in the way these things come off, and I wish people posting would consider that before posting the way they do.

I never want anyone to feel embarrassed or be shamed by something as silly and normally fun as fanfiction and what they like to read or write in it.

If we could all see that nobody wants to be judged for how they feel and for who they are, I think the world would be a better place.

There is nothing wrong with romance, no romance, sex, no sex, hugs, no hugs, or whatever. By dividing each other by things like our desires or lack of them in certain things, we separate ourselves in ways that aren't good, and it makes the problems of understanding and accepting each other all the harder.

We are all people, and we are all okay no matter who we are. Thank you for making me feel that way. ❤️

Well fuck, this is a long ass ask, but thank you so much for trusting me with your feelings, anon. I don't know if I'm the best person for this, because I'm famously not a fan of Five in romance fics, and not because of his sexuality but the fact that his body is still a minor in most of the contexts they're written in, but if people age up his body I still find it strange because I do think he is on the aroace spec, but I would never find it disgusting or tell people what they can or can't do based on my headcanon no matter how popular. you wanna write Five fics that take place in or post season 4 or with him aged up? go the fuck ahead. not my cup of tea, but I would never harass anyone for it.

what I find troubling is that people want to discount the feelings he's clearly shown to have as a "trauma response" or "something he knows is wrong" in favor of their headcanon that isn't confirmed is frankly cringe as fuck. he's a complex guy that probably was genuinely romantically involved with the mannequin, no matter how weird. love is love until it's not allowed to be I guess.

Idk, again I find most Five fics weird as fuck but people are allowed to do whatever they want, it's not hurting a community that I happen to be a part of and I'm sure some of these people are not part of, and if you don't wanna read a fic (which again, I don't) just don't read it, nothing is being shoved down your throat.

There are lots of ways to be on Tumblr. We can co-exist without requiring conformity of use patterns.

I will not judge you harshly if your blog is mainly original posts. A few original posts increases the chances that you are a real person. I am here to connect with people, not to be a consumer. Please, make original posts to your heart’s content. It’s not rude.

Image descriptions are awesome. I think there is a skill to writing them that I don’t have yet. I think clumsy beginner descriptions are better than none. I use the alt text feature for this.

It’s ok if you never reblog my original posts from this blog. Posts about the garden and the cats are fine to reblog. Posts with action steps you can take for a fair and just world would be great to reblog. I would rather you not reblog posts with pictures of me and my family or posts containing personal information. Reblogs from my professional side blog are lovely, but my posts there tend to be long, so I don’t expect anyone to do that.

There are a few artists and writers I follow whose Tumblrs are mainly content they want to market or share with the public in a one-way flow. I choose things to reblog that I want to see again, or that resonate with me in the moment, or that I think a specific follower of mine would like.

I am easily irritated by posts from creators (especially ones I don’t follow) complaining about strangers failing to reblog their posts. I am tempted to block when I see people complaining about receiving likes. Cultivate relationships and revel in the community of people who do share your work. Guilting people into reblogging is terrible marketing and doesn’t speak well for your work. Likes can be a gateway to further engagement.

Other than those few creators, I am mainly here for conversations. Replies to my original posts are great. I might not see replies if they are attached to reblogs with thousands of notes. Reblogs with comments in the tags also work to continue conversations.

I don’t love posts that are designed to elicit fear, outrage, or disgust without providing an action step, even if I agree. I get plenty of news. I agree that the situation is dire for the planet, for human rights, for racial justice, for LGBTQ justice, for the future of democracy, etc. Give reliable sources and something to do with that energy, which can be self-care or how to keep yourself safe or how to reach decision-makers or which organizations to join for organized action. Sometimes you just have to scream and I get that, but if everything I see from you on my timeline is panic-inducing with no place to channel that energy, that’s not actually helpful for making the world better.

A Treatise on why Label Policing is Bad

Alternatively named: I do have reading comprehension, you're just a goddamn adult who somehow doesn't know that people can disagree with you for fully thought out and informed reasons and not be a bad person.

I'm kinda tired and don't wanna get riled up because I have work early tomorrow morning but I don't wanna forget to make this post so I'm just gonna jump right into it. I got in a dispute, here's the context for the post in pictures:

You could argue I was asking for OP to get mad at me and write a big post then block me. You would probably be right, but I thought it was important. This IS where radical feminism starts, and I thought it was important to point that out and warn people against it. Also if you've been with me for a while, you know that label anarchy is my whole schtick. I do not stand for label policing, it's just simply one of the worst offenses in my world.

Anyways they answered back. I'm going to go through their answer point by point because they (and some of their followers who anon'ed me) really thought they got me good and disproved all my points. And I still think this is an important subject, so I will gladly take the chance to elaborate my points.

Nope, next question. No, but in all seriousness, there is a huge difference in being frustrated about how people are perceiving a label that you're using versus trying to define that label for everyone else who uses it.

Newsflash: people can use labels in different ways! Label fluidity 101 example is bi vs pan. People use these labels for different reasons and there is so much overlap that there can't really be a solid difference between the two that encompasses all the reasons someone might choose one over the other. Hell, maybe they just like the flag better.

You don't have to be a label anarchist like me to concede that point (although I do highly recommend, being a label anarchist is a blast) and if you understand that, then there's really not that much of a jump to understand why someone might want to microlabel (e.g. bi lesbian) or why someone who might more accurately be described as bi might want to use lesbian as a descriptor instead.

Part of being queer is finding joy in identity. Would you really deny someone else that right?

Gonna be real with you, I don't do background checks when I'm reblogging. I did a cursory glance of your blog just because I was doing a long response and wanted to be sure you weren't actually just a terf. Sue me.

Couple points here. One, words are made up, and the definitions of them are constantly evolving. I'm a writer so I'm absolutely more obnoxious about this than other people, but if you want to change the definition of a word, literally all you have to do is use it in that way enough, and people will understand what you're saying. Especially with identity words.

Two, who is "we"? Lesbians in general? We are not a monolith. I am one, and I don't agree that it's a hard boundary. I do agree that in the general sense of the word, used in it's truest form, it excludes men. That doesn't mean it's always used that way, for the aforementioned reasons.

Three, jesus christ I can't believe you're doing the one where you imply that me saying words are made up is what makes men rape women. Biphobia was created on that fallacy.

See above: bi and pan example. Bi lesbian and bi can be functionally the same label, but for some people, the former is just a more comfortable descriptor.

Nah, I advocate for both microlabeling and macrolabeling because literally none of it matters or hurts anyone. People should get to identify however they feel suits them best. That's part of the joy of being queer.

Also, as I mentioned, I'm a writer and I LOVE playing with words. I'm also a philosophy nerd which might explain why I'm so fucking cerebral about it all. Not everyone has to be like me in regards to how they view labels, I understand that I am absolutely the extreme, but everyone should be allowed to because, I repeat, NOBODY IS BEING HURT BY IT.

Hi! I know I left a comment on my reblog, but I felt the need to send something a little more heartfelt. I'm going to try to be normal about this lol

That picture you drew was the first thing I saw this morning, and it has been sitting on one of my monitors ever since, just so I can glance at it any time I want—which quite honestly has been incredibly frequent.

It might seem like I'm a little too excited about this, but it's a huge deal to me. Before I started putting fics out (just south of a year ago now) I hadn't written anything in nearly a decade, so I didn't really have any expectations for what I put out. Of course, I thought about how cool it'd be if someone drew something directly inspired by something I wrote, but I always considered that a kind of a lofty thing? Would be nice if it happened, but I wasn't expecting it. And if it did happen, it'd probably happen much later on when I'm a little better at writing.

All of that to say this is the first time I've inspired anyone to make art from my material. That means so much to me and I am unbelievably grateful to you for that. Also, WOW, it's from someone who has also drawn one of my absolute most favorite SciSet pics ever too?? I adore the way you draw Sunset, so when I saw this was from you I actually gasped so loud my wife heard me from the other room lol.

I mentioned this briefly in my reblog, but I really love the way this picture is composed. When I write scenes, they tend to play out in my mind in full motion with great detail, so what I envision can be incredibly specific, yet I really feel like you managed to capture details I hadn't really put words to. The color scheme in particular—lots of blues and purples, but with just the right amount of saturation to match the pink. Visual arts are not my forte, so I apologize if that doesn't make the most sense.

Imagine if Diego actually died, but temporarily. Imagine the potential. Him going to a spirit realm and seeing the souls of Nadia, his fallen packmates, not to mention Manny's first mate and child.

Well, canonically - going off by what Chris Wedge said on the DVD commentary - he actually did, but this is such a really cool idea!

It's in fact been touched on, long ago, in the Ice Age ffn archive with the fic, "A Second Chance" but other than that it's an intriguing idea that hasn't really been touched on, at least especially in terms of Ice Age fics.

I would know because I've always been on the lookout for fics like "A Second Chance" and so far it is the only one of its kind wrt fleshing out what might've happened when Diego 'died' in IA1.

I am planning to put my own spin on it involving Brede when I get to the IA1 parts of Lacrimosa, too, because I love the idea of Diego 'dying' like he did in IA1 and Brede bringing him to Her afterlife where he receives forgiveness from Nadia via Brede's intervention since Brede belongs to and is loved by all species in my CI-verse for Ice Age.

Also I guess the above is technically L spoilers, of a sort, but anyone who has read Lacrimosa would know of the importance I give to Brede (and how it's already been implied She comes to those She loves in their dying moments) so it's kinda more of a foregone conclusion than a spoiler. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, I will post this idea to the Ice Age tag and hopefully sooner or later someone might actually write it! Maybe even you, anon! :)

But hopefully someone does because a fic exploring Diego's experiences in the afterlife/spirit realm during his 'death' in IA1 would make for an intriguing one-shot fic!

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

Welll... it goes back to that extremely vivid dream I had in 2009, involving Diego, Peaches, and a mysterious antagonist - a tigress.

Before that, like pointed out in my other reply, I had a very different story in mind - I just wanted to write a nice fluffy Manny & Diego & Peaches father/uncle daughter/niece fic, though a mammoth as a villain was part of that original concept for the fic when I was calling it, "My Two Dads."

That dream altered everything though and eventually the overall fic changed from "My Two Dads" to being called "Cruel Intentions" and "Lacrimosa" was originally intended to have only FIVE (yes, five!!) chapters but considering that I'm about to post chapter 16 at the end of this month that didn't happen...

So, basically, the inspiration - the M2Ds concept + the vivid dream - melded together into what has become my "Cruel Intentions" series.

I really hope I can complete L this year because I really wanna get truly to work on CI, since I already have 20k words and basically two 10k chapters written for CI bk 1 at the moment...

5: What part was hardest to write?

Nothing really so far! However, "Lacrimosa" is heading into its collision course of mammoth vs sabres + the humans are coming fuller into the picture + The Scarlett has schemes up her paw... and it seems each new chapter (if you seem my posts referring to them) deal with a new emotional crisis or trauma, I think they might be.

But, from what I remember from when I first began writing Lacrimosa at the start 8 years ago, nothing was really "hard" to write per se.

I try not to get too attached to my OCs or my Diego/Theo pairing because this is a story where Anyone Can Die, so...

More Ice Age gushing!!

But anyway, I love love love how you can SEE the visual representation of Manny and Diego's friendship/relationship evolving from Manny ordering Diego to stay in front so that Manny can keep a eye on him

to 50 minutes into the movie and with the group in sight of Half-Peak, Diego goes from being in front to walking alongside.

It's like that quote, attributed to Camus, that goes,

"Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend."

And really, all Manny needed in this movie - and despite Diego's betrayal - was a friend to just walk beside him and be his friend and be there for him in his pain.

My #1 post of 2022

An underrated moment in Ice Age 1, I feel, is at the climatic battle with Soto and again, illustrates Roshan's importance to the group as a whole.

Oh, and by the way, for people who believe that Soto wasn't double-crossing Diego himself, the novelisation has him say, "You asked for it!" as he's lifting his paw to strike Diego dead!

The thing that makes him pause is Roshan crying out nearby, as he and Sid turn the corner. Note that Sid is completely floored and unable to do anything since this wasn't the herd's plan, but Roshan makes an upset baby cry when he sees Diego on the ground bleeding out and that is enough to distract Soto AND save Diego's life.

Part of me has always wondered, did Diego hear that cry despite being unconscious? Did Manny or Sid tell him about it? Does he know that Roshan, in a way, prevented his death?

I just made a prompt sort of thing in my Ice Age prompts folder (currently 10+ pages in gdocs) but ugh, I've always wanted to see someone write Diego realising that he owes his survival, in part, to Roshan, or that he was able to hear that cry somehow despite being unconscious!!

Hey there, you can call me IPP (In-Progress Pokemon) or Jae. Any pronoun (he/she/they) is fine. I started this blog in late October 2014 and it has become a passion project for me, that will possibly never end because TPC keeps adding new Pokemon.

My first Pokemon game was Red Version and my favorite Pokemon are Swampert and Noivern. Out of the Gen 9 Starters I am currently team Fuecoco.

I have a pet Blue Tongue Skink named Burrito (he is a good, chubby boy).

What does In-Progress Pokemon mean?/What are these?

In-Progress Pokemon is my name for the concept of exploring how Pokemon might look if they physically transitioned from one evolutionary stage to another. Basically: if Pokemon grew rather than evolved. The “transitional stages” that I illustrate aren’t meant to be taken as actual additional stages; rather, as a “snap-shot” in time while the Pokemon is growing or transitioning between each evolutionary stage. The flavor text/descriptions help to bridge the evolutionary gaps as well.

I also post other Pokemon-related art, like commissioned Fakemon or my Dual-Type Eeveelutions.

When do you update/post new art?

My upload schedule for new art is every Monday and Thursday, 2:00pm EST. They’re reblogged in the evening at 8:00pm EST, and again on Sunday.

I try to always have something new to post for those days, but occasionally have to skip updates when I didn’t have enough time to finish something. I reblog older art at 2pm and 4pm on other days - they’re tagged as “old art” and “IPPreblog” if you want to blacklist them.

If they’re not meant to be new stages, why are they named? Can I suggest a name?

Originally I didn’t name them, but after time people began to suggest names, and it’s turned into something I do regularly now. When I post a new Pokemon line, people suggest names for the transitional stages and after a while I’ll look through the suggested names and pick the one I think fit best (based on origin, existing name scheme, etc) - I don’t come up with the names myself.

You’re welcome to suggest a name by reblogging, commenting, or messaging me. When the time comes I’ll make a post with all the suggestions, and I’ll tag you if I go with your name or a name you’ve seconded or showed support for.

If you decide to suggest a name, please include a brief breakdown of your suggestion inspirations (ie: Charmander is a combination of char + salamander).

How’s your progress going?

They keep introducing new Pokemon, but I’m getting pretty close. As of Early 2022, only a few Pokemon lines are left pre-PLA, and now I have some new Hisuian Pokemon added to the plate that I’m quickly getting to.

What’s up with the redos?

When I started in 2014 I had little to no digital art experience, and a lot of my older art shows this. I’m in the process of redoing older lines and either updating their existing design in my current style, or redoing the design and concept completely. I dislike having my older (imo bad) art out there, so redos is a priority for me, although I know it’s not as interesting for my followers so I try to space them out. I also tend to do redos when I don’t have the time or motivation for anything else.

All that said, I can’t grant permission for Fakemon that were commissioned and belong to the commissioner, although I’m always willing to try reaching out to the commissioner and ask permission on your behalf. It will always say on my posts if a Fakemon was commissioned and belongs to someone else.

What about Gigantamax Pokemon?

As of now, I’m not planning on doing them. They’re large, time-consuming, and I don’t really like them. I may do them in the future once I’ve completed the main lines and Megas, but no promises.

Commissions?

Yes, I take commissions, though I close them when I have too many commissioned queued or if my IRL is very busy. The pinned post on the top of my blog shows my commission status.

I accept payment only once I’m able to start to your commission and do my business through PayPal invoices, which you can pay with a PayPal account if you have one, or a credit or debit card if you do not.

Depending on what you’re looking to commission, we can work as collaboratively as you like. Some people just want me to make a certain thing and like being surprised with the final result, some people have a firm vision and want to be able to give feedback during the designing process and make changes, some people fall somewhere in the middle. Whatever you prefer is fine.

Sorry, sometimes it takes me a while to get to messages. I also try to space them out so I’m not filling the blog with them. It’s never personal. If I never responded to your message, or it’s been weeks, it’s possible I never got it, or more likely, it has gotten buried under other asks before I was able to respond. If you need to hear from me about something, you can send me a chat message or resend your ask.

I don’t want to clutter people’s dashboards, so I tend to not respond to a lot of anonymous asks if I feel they don’t require a response, but I read them and I especially appreciate the kind words that some of you send my way; they help to keep my spirits up! What program do you use?:

I use Paint Tool SAI for the sketch, line art, and coloring, and Photoshop CC for the text/editing/backgrounds.

I tag everything. You can search for Pokemon by name, type, generation, region, as well as for starter Pokemon and Eeveelutions. You can also blacklist certain things you aren’t interested in seeing on your dashboard.
