the pushback against the discord mobile update shouldn’t be based upon “if you can get used to it” or not. some people might like it. some people might get used to it faster. but a lot of people won’t. and the point of the pushback is that discord keeps thinking they can change this shit and get away with it.

nobody asked for discord to change its color to a brighter blue. remember that? we all got used to it. but that was one of the first instances of the userbase just tolerating a useless change.

later came the dreaded username change. nobody asked for that. in fact, it caused a fuck ton of trouble. remember the markipkier username situation? yeah. but we all just “got used to it.” i don’t hear anyone talking about it anymore. we moved on, even though it really fucking sucked.

now it’s a complete overhaul of the mobile app that removed pretty much everything people liked about discord in the first place. removing the right swipe to see members and pins just made everything clunky and slow. the swipe to reply they replaced it with doesn’t even work all the time. the nice and cozy gray is now colder and darker, which would be fine, but there’s literally a midnight mode that they just released out of beta after 7 years. (edit: i actually used the app for a little more and realized just how fucking hard it was to read anything with the new contrast. it's a genuine accessibility issue. jesus)

they removed the community. want to see which friends are online? fuck you! click the top of the channel that is much slower and cumbersome than just swiping! want to see the funny and/or important messages you pinned? too bad, because we’re cutting off longer messages and hiding links/images that were attached to the message. and also, you can’t see who sent the message in a dm or group chat. also^2, you have to click into the channel and click into ANOTHER tab to even access the pins. fuck you.

regardless of if you like the changes or not, the point of protesting isn’t due to personal preference. it’s that discord keeps thinking they can change this shit that nobody wanted and get away with it. staying complacent will just let them know they can roll out changes and their userbase will still stick around, even if they hate it. which is not true. because users (including my friends and i) and even NITRO USERS are considering jumping ship to alternatives that don’t hate its userbase.

don’t let discord think it’s invincible. send feedback (go to settings and appearance, and there will be a button), even if it’s likely they won’t read it. review them in the app store. if there’s enough genuine feedback that outlines the faults and focuses on the performance and usability of the app, there’s a chance they might change Some things. because we don’t WANT to move and leave all our friends and communities, but a lot of us will have to if the situation gets worse.

the best case scenario is that they let us choose the format we want, but considering that this is discord we’re talking about, i don’t think it will. the least we can do now is to make sure at least some things get changed back for accessibility and convenience.

ATTENTION KIRBY FANS!

Do you want to see a Kirby movie more than anything, but Nintendo keeps letting you down? Well, today's your lucky day! I'm in the process of creating my very own, fanmade Kirby movie based off of Star Allies - and I'd like your help. I believe that with the efforts of a community coming together to work on this passion project and give something that we love our all, it will turn out better than anything official that they could come out with. Overall, while this project is serious to me and something that I am very dedicated to, I also want it to be fun and for everybody to have a good time creating this art together. If you do decide to jump on and help, there's no need to worry about deadlines or stress or needing to have a ton of skill. But, without further ado....

Animators

I'm looking for people that have experience working in Blender here. Pretty much any skill level is okay, though I will still request that you show me some sort of example (just to verify that you know how the application works at all, basically). Ideally I'd like to have enough people working on this that I could step back from leading the animation, eventually, and focus fully on writing/storyboarding and other design aspects instead - but I understand that this might be unrealistic.

Storyboarding

The more the merrier! Regardless of the level of your art skill or your style, if you can sketch out scenes in a way that's decipherable to others, you're more than welcome here.

Voice Acting

The big one. Voice actors for Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Bandana Waddle Dee would be very much appreciated. I also have a longer list of characters that need voices that includes many of the Dream Friends, Hyness, the Mage Sisters, and more. This is the one thing I will likely be a little picky on, and require you to audition for the role.

Writers

Honestly, I'm not looking for many other writers right now. I think I have it mostly under control, but I could possibly take one or two co-writers on with me.

Sound Effects/Miscellaneous

After a movie night with some friends on discord where we watched The Lost Boys, the idea came about to me to have a Week, seven days with a prompt for each day, with the date and prompts announced months in advance so everyone has time to make something for it!

We held the event and so many of you participated and had a lovely time, I knew I wanted to keep it up!

I didn't want to make this post, and I still don't, but I don't think I can keep my silence on the situation for any longer. I've only told a few people about this, so I'm here now, telling all of you about what happened.

"The Henry Stickmin Artist Community" discord server is a server I am currently in; you may be too, you may not. If so, you also might know the owner, Stick, aka Suppishstick on discord. I definitely do. My experience with them was not a good one, and I'll be sharing my experience with them in this post.

1: Starting off.

How we met:

A few months ago, I joined a THSC community based server along with another close friend of mine, looking to communicate with some other THSC fans outside of twitter (only platform I posted on back then). However, I didn't start talking until a few months afterwards. Once I had started talking, I had gotten to know a few of the people there; one of them being Stick. They didn't talk much, but the first interaction we ever had (I believe) was when I was talking about an artist I disliked (this artist was fairly controversial for their predatorial creations and actions, btw).

When I explained what they did to Stick since they wanted to know, we just talked about how disgusting that behavior is, and so on. Conversation ends.

How it started:

However, a few hours afterwards, they'd started dming me with random shit. It wasn't wrong, it just felt a little weird because I didn't expect to be dmed after our previous conversation was already done and over with: also because we didn't know each other. There wasn't anything wrong with just talking, so I went along with it.

One day, he suddenly said that he was thinking of making me and my friend mods. However, he said it like if he made me a mod, he'd have to make them a mod too. Despite this, I was extremely happy. I don't know WHY I wanted mod perms, but overall you can't really do anything other than ban and kick people; can't even invite a bot to the server. It wasn't worth it, but now I see why he made me AND my friend both mods. (This will come up again.)

Then, the more they talked, the topic became based on serious topics, their IRL life, and their problems. (I'm going to be very vague with their problems they had for privacy reasons.) It started off with them talking about having a crush on their friend, and it basically backfiring on them.

This is basically what started it.

From then on, they began to vent in my dms almost daily about any feeling they had, and I would reply every time, despite being uncomfortable yet not having the guts to tell them to stop.

He went from that, to talking about how he wanted to bleach his skin, which is OBVIOUSLY harmful. His reasoning was that he would maybe get a girlfriend because he would be white, and saying that he should do what MJ (Michael Jackson) did, which is also untrue. Besides that, when he said this, I felt extremely uncomfortable with what he said he was going to do just for people to like him, since I didn't want him to harm himself. I wouldn't want ANYONE to do this just so they could be liked by other people. (As well as me telling him another time, not to vent in my DMS.)

Then, afterwards, they had started venting in my dms without permission again. This screenshot one of the various times I'd told him not to vent w/o perms.

All he talked about was the situation with his friend, and everything that was going on in his life. However, then he started talking about using steroids and harming himself. (I may come off as dry in these texts because as I stated, I was uncomfortable.)

I didn't know how to react when I saw these messages. I didn't know if I were to comfort him, discourage those actions, or just not reply in general.

When he said he didn't vent in DMS anymore, which was pretty much just contradicting himself, I pointed it out that he had been doing that for weeks.

His motive for doing most of these things was to make people like him. And I understand that you might not be liked by too many people, but harming yourself and your health to fit in is not the way to go.

He argued that it wasn't "angry or suicidal stuff", so I guess it ... Wasn't venting??? (SS of convo down below)

I'd also like to talk about the typa shit he'd talk about when he wasn't venting to me. Most of this stuff was stuff I didn't know (or really care, I'm sorry to say it,,) about.

A few of the things he sent stuck out to me, specifically because it was NSFW content.

One of these examples was a newgrounds animation. Why was I trusting anything they sent that was from newgrounds? Because I didn't want to just not acknowledge the shit he was talking about.

This animation, however, was a video of a fucking Creeper getting assaulted.

I did not request to see the animation, all I said was that I hadn't seen it, yet he still sent the link.

The image of the video is blurred because it contains slight gore, and I'm not taking my chances,,,

Yeah, some people might be able to handle it, but like, if someone doesn't ask for a NSFW link, YOU DONT SEND IT!!!

Now, here's my message I sent after I didn't want this to go on any longer. I sent this message to request that he stop talking in my dms in the politest way I could. Although, this is the response I got.

Yes, he did apologize for saying it like that, but it didn't feel as if he really meant it.

If he had problems, I wanted him to seek help for them, and not tell someone on the Internet who he didn't know basically every thought he had.

I wasn't comfortable from the start.

Before I start my conclusion on this, I'd like to mention the time he promoted his rants,...,, To be specific, he sent a message in the main chat of the server, saying, "check rant, it's bad."

Not only did he say this in the server, he also sent it in my dms as well. (I cannot provide any more pictures because I've reached the limit of images tumblr will allow me to add, but if anyone would like to see them, I can show the messages he sent.)

If Stick sees this, I will not argue with him about this. If he bans me from the server, that's fine. I still believe what he did was wrong.

(bfp) has existed, i have run it almost entirely alone. each time that we gained momentum, it was as though the narrow visions of others dragged us right back to the depths of the void. and i was the one always left to pick up the pieces. you see, for nearly 8 years, i fought and cried, chased and fell, lived and died. but it was through my struggles that i made lifelong friends to kiss the very scars this organization has graced me with. i will always hold a place in my heart for the volunteers who showed up, who bleed alongside me as these words rip into our spirits.

you see, i am writing this because i am a changed person. called every name in the book right down to ngger whore*, something about my soul is hurting. my children and i, my wonderful children, have spent 8 years begging our white peers to care. it does something to you… to look into someone’s eyes, to say that you feel as though you could die, that the world has cursed you with this endless sense of urgency, and for them to only center their themselves whiteness in the end. even in the home we had created, we could not escape white supremacy. i refuse to sugarcoat just how heartbreaking a revelation this was. in the words of one of our truest and most gentle-hearted allies, internally, we had become parasitic, only existing to serve the needs and wants of our white members. and of course, we were disposable. when cycles of harm were disrupted, they left us without a single word of remorse.

(bfp) is changing. our nonprofit status will remain. but our volunteer positions will not. our liberation library will remain. but our discord server will not. we will no longer accept donations. our current funds will be redistributed through mutual aid networks. our 3,000 free resources will still be available. but our capacity for material change has truly been diminished. we hope to continue to provide marginalized youth with educational materials for as long as we possibly can. and so we will do so, for as long as we possibly can.

you see, my children and i, we are a resilient people. borne of slave ships and reservations, occupation and colonization, abuse and grief, we are survivors. our hands grasp one another’s tightly so that we may never lose each other in this world. we have held hands since before we ever even met. as we venture back out into our local communities, we will never stop being intentional in our relationships (in fact, we already have a new project in the works so that may stick together). better future program, inc. Hello, my darlings.

So last week I let y'all know my family was going through some stuff, and I'm feeling like I'm in an okay place today to tell everyone a little more of what's going on 💚

On Saturday evening, my father suddenly died.

This was a huge shock to our entire family, and in a lot of ways, we're still reeling from it. We still have no idea what happened, and there were no warning signs. It feels like a piece of me has been ripped unceremoniously into tiny pieces scattered into a cold wind, and I am so fucking heartbroken I can barely stand it.

I also want to tell y'all how much I value and treasure this fandom and the friends I have made here. You're not just names on a screen, you are beloved humans who make my life better in every little thing you do. I know that a huge part of me finding joy again will be finding my way back to yelling excitedly in the tags with everyone about these gay pirates kissing. It might take me a while, but I will get there. I want to. I just need to do it slowly.

I'm mostly sticking to discord dms as a way of communicating right now, so if you want to find me there, I'm also @unadulteratedkr on discord as well. Fight against Big Social Media

After seeing the actions of both Matt Mullenweg and Elon Musk, I think it should be clear that the people who run the platforms that let us communicate with each other are - in the most polite way possible - malicious dumbasses.

Your online presence is not safe in the hands of people like this, even if the owner of the current platform you're on is "one of the good ones", they will eventually get replaced one day.

We cannot realistically take down these social media giants, but we can at least slowly move like-minded people to better alternatives, and arm them with the ability to not be silenced or harassed easily.

Limit your given data for them and constantly point people to content you create to other alternatives, like a neo-cities website or a reliable Mastodon instance. If your platform has extensions like OldTwitterLayout or Vencord, immediately install them and disable all telemetry and tracking data they have on you. Most extensions either have telemetry disabled by default once you install them, but double-check their settings to make sure that they're indeed disabling them.

Create your own website on Neocities or host it on Vercel. This might sound difficult to less tech-savy people, but there are several resources out there like a markdown-to-html converter and w3school's entire repository of knowledge on how to make web pages that can help everyone get into creating their own website. I highly recommend that you stick with Neocities, as it's part of the indieweb and is very friendly towards new people learning these sorts of things. If you're using Vercel, make sure you're hosting your website on a private repository on Github so that you can never lose your website no matter what changes in the future.

Find a webring you're interested in and join it. This is what you can use to find other like-minded people.

Understand how the content-delivery algorithm of platforms you're using works and actively work against it. For example, Twitter punishes its users for following too many people, use this to your advantage to stay hidden from the dangerous freaks we call "People who pay for blue checkmarks", or if you're a content creator looking to market themselves; use this knowledge to boost yourself and your alternative platform(s) that you use.

Setup services and webhooks that let you automatically cross-post content between platforms. If you're unable to move away from Twitter or Discord for example due to your friends/mutuals/fans refusing to move with you, there are services like mamot's crossposting service and a Matrix bot bridge for discord that let you do just that. (Please double-check the service that you will use before logging into it to make sure they're trustworthy.)

this is a little diary comic to announce i'd like to transition my comms from fixed pricing to "pay what you want". I want to be accessible. I feel like modern social media really discourages people from sharing their creativity with each other. I want to recapture a sense of community that died with deviantart. this is me saying "come into my dms and info dump to me about your ocs and lets do an art trade or something!!" this is me saying "i want to play and share stories with friends or strangers and im willing to do whatever, lets just DO something!!!"

Q: How much would $X get me?

A: Idk man. it'd get you SOMETHING no matter what. But i'm not stressing about the fine details. If your characters inspire me, I'd be willing to put more effort into my drawing for you for less pay.

That being said, I am trying to stick to a $20/hr rate for my drawings. but my speed is variable. if u want something that looks nice, min $50-60 is probably a safe range. If you just want me to doodle your fella, $20 is good.

Q: Can i get my piece mailed to me?

A: Yes, but I may ask you to cover shipping!

Q: What if my characters don't really have a whole lot to them?

A: At this time, I am really only interested in drawing characters with Baggage™️, be that a story, lore, personality, whatever. I want to draw less Characters just Standing There and more art pieces with symbolism and depth of thought behind their compositions. Its a personal goal of mine as an artist! So i'm reserving the right to reject any commissioner that doesn't mesh with that personal goal. I want this to be fun for me!

33rd Birthday!

Hello my dear followers and random visitors of my blog.

I have already made a sorry announcement due to my hiatus but that’s not all I wanted to tell you.

This Monday, April 15th 2024 to be precise, is my Birthday. I’m already 33 years old! Would you believe that? I certainly wouldn’t. I feel like 16. 😂 

And how pretty the number is, right? Two threes… My life path number is also 3. How neat is that, huh?

When it comes to angel number 33, this source says the following:

I did want to celebrate my birthday with you with some sort of event but as you know I was really busy so… I guess we will celebrate my 44th Birthday properly? LOL!

Honestly, I have a lot to be grateful for in my life, you guys in my little community included. I hope we can stay together for many years that come and have some more fun with both serious and kinky tarot readings.

Chapter Ten

“Brickowski!” Business greeted upon spotting him, grinning widely. “Fancy seeing you here! Did you come for the wedding?”

“Yeah,” Emmet answered, barely giving it a thought. “What are you doing here? I thought you went golfing!”

“Oh I did, I did,” Business waved him off. “But wouldn’t you know it, our world is flat? I lost my golf ball over the edge! I fell too when I tried to get it back, and one of those nice Auroran scouts saved me and brought me here! And this place is so great, I haven’t left since!” Rex and Emmet exchanged glances; Rex looked weirded out by the whole exchange. “Who’s your friend?”

“Actually, this is my brother, Rex,” Emmet introduced him.

Business lit right up. “You have a brother! That’s great! I have a brother too actually, did you know?” He paused, then frowned. “It’s been a long time since I last saw him…”

“Do you miss him?” Emmet asked.

“I suppose, I mean we were never super close or anything… Kind of sad, isn’t it…?” He perked back up again. “But hey, once our world is merged with Systar, Risky and I will have all the time in the world to hang out!”

“Almost had him,” Rex muttered. Emmet elbowed him.

“Say, I hope you two aren’t planning on going to the wedding dressed like that. It’s a high-profile event, you know, you’ll stick out like sore thumbs!”

Rex pounced on the opportunity. “Yeah we kinda came on short notice. Don’t suppose you might be able to help us out?”

“Sure, there’s time yet! Come on!” Business gestured for them to follow, and began to walk again. “So how’s Bricksburg been in my absence?”

Lucy was marched back into the palace by the black-armored scout, hands bound in front of her. Mayhem was waiting for them. Lucy gave her a defiant glare.

“General,” the scout greeted with a salute. “We lost sight of the tall one, but Dangervest and his other companion were spotted heading toward Suburbia. Havoc’s on their trail as we speak.”

“Excellent work,” Mayhem praised. “I’ll handle this one. I need you back out there to find the missing rebel.”

“Of course, General.” Discord left them, then. The two stared at each other. Lucy watched warily, wondering what Mayhem would do next. She wasn’t expecting the General to pop off her helmet.

“I’m sorry,” Mayhem said. “It seems we started off on the wrong foot.”

“And whose fault is that?” Lucy snapped. The General bowed her head, accepting the blame.

“The Duplos told us about all of their encounters with your people. I thought, if I talked tough, if I acted tough, maybe then I could get you to listen. The Duplo scouts we sent certainly didn’t seem to be getting anywhere with you.” She held up a hand to forestall Lucy’s argument. “We did eventually realize they weren’t the best ambassadors to send to your planet, which was why we stopped sending them.”

The human blinked as that sank in. “So- it wasn’t because we moved to Apocalypseburg?”

It was Mayhem’s turn to stare in surprise. “No… You built it because of the Duplos?”

“We thought it was the only thing that would stop attracting them!”

“We thought you moved there because it was part of your ‘aesthetic’ or something…”

Lucy heaved an aggravated sigh and dragged her hands over her face. “Would you just tell me what it is you want with us? Cause we tried to play nice at first, but then your Duplos started trying to eat people. They even said they were there to destroy us!”

“We just wanted to join you,” Mayhem said softly. “To play with you. You inspired our world. You gave us our queen. We’ve always looked up to you…”

“You guys are terrible communicators,” Lucy sighed.

“I know,” Mayhem admitted, flinching. “But that’s why I had Havoc and Discord bring you to me, so that we can just… talk, and try to figure something out together. Like we should have done from the start. That’s kind of what this whole wedding thing is about, even. We’re trying to find a way to stop all the fighting.”

Lucy let her guard down. The alien General seemed sincere. “Alright,” she relented. “Alright. What did you have in mind?”

Somewhere in the back of her mind, she was certain someone would have been proud of her for taking the peaceful option. She shoved the thought from her mind, giving Mayhem her full attention.

Welcome to the MetalSandwich/Harringroveson Movie Event! I hope everyone will have a good time and make new friends as we create or appreciate the cool stuff that comes out of this event!

After a movie night with some friends on discord where we watched The Lost Boys, the idea came about to me to have a Week, seven days with a prompt for each day, with the date and prompts announced months in advance so everyone has time to make something for it!

The prompts for it will be focused on movies from the 70s/80s/90s! After an interest check and vote, the date decided was October 10th-16th! I hope everyone will have enough time and fun for this to become an annual event!

What is accepted for the event?

Anything! Fan fiction, fan art, photo edits, moodboards, fan videos, playlists, cosplays, you name it! Just let your creativity go!

Is there a minimum word count or something similar for other projects?

Not at all! Go wild, write drabbles, do anything!

I will ask that any videos include captioning and images include alt text to be considerate towards our friends with hearing and auditory processing difficulties!

How strict do we have to stick to the prompts?

Good question! With the variety and freedom of the prompts I hope you'll have plenty of wiggle room. And maybe you don't feel any movie au in particular but still want to participate? Maybe the boys just have a movie night watching a movie of your choice or they're actors! Who knows, you do! ;) I just want everyone to have fun. If you'd like any movie suggestions, let us know and we'll make a post!

I might run a little late in posting? Is that okay?

Life happens and it sucks! The dates are good for organization and giving everyone a clear schedule to try to keep to. But anything made specifically for this event will be accepted as long as it is posted sometime in October or early November. Otherwise, there's always next year!
