5 mi
8:19a, 60F, 83% humidity, rainy, 46:56, 9:21 min/mi pace
Tumblr media
Ran outdoors, nearhome, normal starting point. Ran out Ekana, left on Lockwood, past Hagerty HS. The next neighborhood called Stratton Woods has 2 entrances and is basically a big horseshoe. Entered the 2nd, ran the horseshoe, exited the 1st, back home on Lockwood. But since the rain was annoying me, reentered my neighborhood at Riviera. Right on Turnberry, quick left on Ekana, 5 mi mark just past our house, walked until the current song ended, about a min or so, turned around and walked home.
The plan was to run on Sunday this weekend, but my youngest son's soccer games were rained out, we were notified when we were already on route, turned around and came home. So we were up early with nothing to do.
Forecast called for rain all day Saturday and Sunday, decided to get my run in while it wasn't raining too bad. Light drizzle to start, picked up to an annoying level pretty shortly after I started, not summer monsoon but still annoying. Thought about sticking to the 1.5 mi loop around my house, but figured that would make it too easy for me to quit early so that's why I ran the route I did.
Not training for any race at the moment, and I only ran 3 times midweek, 1 fewer than normal (as I try to figure out what my go forward health plan is going to be, sort of the point of this blog), none of the runs particularly challenging, so this weekend 5-miler would only take me to just over 15 mi for the week, pretty low for my standards . All that is to say, I didn't feel compelled to keep this run to an easy pace. I just went out there and ran how I felt like running.
And my playlist reflected that, no easy pace songs, 5 Dillon Francis songs, "Runner" by RL Grime, then my 7 favorite songs from Brave Faces Everyone by Spanish Love Songs, a playlist more tailored to a PR than a weekend easy pace. But that's what I felt like listening to that morning.
9:58 first mi, 9:39 second, if I was feeling bleh, this is the point I would have organically finished with three 10s. The way I've been eating the past week, I expected to feel bleh. But I felt great, the music was helping, the rain was somewhat refreshing, annoying but refreshing, focusing on avoid puddles made me run more intentionally I think.
9:27 third mi, 9:05 fourth. "Losers" starting playing shortly after mile 5 started, my pace picked up. "Brave Faces Everyone" played next, the final song, my pace picked up again, 8:31 fifth mile. I was soaked, called my wife on my AirPods, asked her to open the garage and bring me a towel.

It's the start of another work week! One that reminded me of something I totally forgot to do, but it shouldn't be a hassle to wrap up. Not that long a piece to write, which I've been told is the way to do it around here. That's always a plus here.
So yeah, some big news surrounding the Xbox brand as well. Got a lot of folks buzzing and a lot of outrageous things said without a shred of irony. We can only see how it all pans out right now.
The game time today was going back to 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim after I've finished the other stuff on my plate. It's suitably bizarre right now and fitting that desire for a visual novel-type game, which is also a plus.
The weather got a bit cloudy as the day went on, which is a prelude to a midweek storm we're supposed to get. Least it won't bring a ton of precipitation. Or so the forecast says...

Christmas was fun - the Boy came home for the weekend and the Bolognese we had on Friday; the Peking Duck (Beijing Duck now?) we had on Christmas Eve; and the Beef Loin we had on Christmas Day were all consumed with gusto. Or cutlery. The only downer was the complete failure of a Yorkshire pudding that I wasted 4 eggs on.
Santa Claus was, of course, very generous with the chocolate to all concerned but there were other gifts which, despite not being chocolate or even edible, were still appreciated by the recipients. We had two board games as presents. Exploding Kittens seemed to work out ok - we took that over to our neighbours for a games evening on Boxing Day - but Wingspan is a ludicrously complicated game that I think is going to take us quite some time to master. Even after playing the simple game with instructions, and watching two YouTube videos we're still not much wiser on how to play it.
Obviously this is the week between Christmas and New Year, so it's been a quiet week at work, with a lot of people out on vacation…or just not turning up. Today is going to be a slightly late one as we have to deploy 40 PCs into the public area at MLK. Hopefully, having a few people here doing it will mean it's not too slow a process.
The weather over the next week is going bonkers. It had been very cold (though not as bad as some places a bit West of here) but over the next few days the temperatures are forecast to be somewhat (!) unseasonable at times. Might need shorts in midweek!!

This year, a portion of the proceeds from will benefit the Animal Rescue Mission.
St. Patrick’s At The Silver Lake Farmers Market
Stop by the Farmers Market for corned beef, cabbage and green beer at Magee’s Kitchen. Glen “the strolling bagpiper” will be playing Celtic tunes in the afternoon, while other bands will park themselves on the east patio during lunch and the west patio during dinner.
Flogging Molly at Los Globos
You heard us right! The one and only Celtic punk stalwarts Flogging Molly will be hitting Los Globos on the 17th! Before the show, Globos will have pours of Guinness, grub and games set up outside (for free; no concert tickets are required for the block party).

Defenders at the double for Ashton
Non-league previews
JOHN LUFUDU, a player that manager Mike Clegg describes as very, very popular among the Hurst Cross faithful, has returned to ASHTON UNITED.
He's one of two defenders signed today, the other being Cole Lonsdale who has been brought in from Clitheroe. Both go straight into the squad for tomorrow (Saturday's) Pitching In NPL premier division fixture at home to Bamber Bridge.
Lufudu has rejoined Ashton from Spennymoor United as part of a loan deal that keeps him at the club until the end of the season. He signalled his delight on Twitter stating "we got unfinished work to do" with an emoji of a flexed bicep.
Yet another defender, Michael Raynes, is out of action for a month after picking up an injury in last weekend's draw at Nantwich.
The pressure continues to pile up on HYDE UNITED who are without a league win in their last seven outings — a run that has left them hovering above the drop zone having played more matches than both Nantwich and Witton.
Ed Ikpakwu is back in the squad for the difficult game at fifth-placed Scarborough after serving a one-game ban. But Krisel Prifti starts a three-match suspension for being sent off against Buxton in a late incident that led to the visitors' Tommy Elliott also being shown a red card.
Simon Haworth is more concerned about the inclement weather than the strength of his squad as STALYBRIDGE CELTIC prepare to welcome Mickleover to Bower Fold.
The Bridge manager has a fully fit squad to choose from with defender Stephen Brogan returning from a calf injury, but the heavy rain that has been forecast could cause real problems for the Bower Fold pitch.
Haworth will be keen for the game to go ahead as his team look to be running into form after a creditable draw at Morpeth and a fine win at high-flying Bamber Bridge last weekend.
In National League North, striker Dominic Knowles could be set to make his long-awaited return for in-form CURZON ASHTON after managing 75 minutes of a midweek friendly against Fleetwood Town under-23s.
The Nash, who are back on the fringes of the play-off places after winning three of their last four games, including last Saturday's 1-0 victory at Fylde, look good to extend their run tomorrow when they face struggling Telford United at the Tameside Stadium.
Telford have taken only one point from five visits to Curzon and are without an away win in the league this season. However, they have won their last two matches, scoring eight goals and conceding none.
Harry Flowers and Dale Whitham should get the chance to enhance their own Curzon comebacks. Matt Challoner remains suspended and Matt Rain and Matt Waters are still injured.
Telford's Kai Williams is ruled out by damaged ankle ligaments. Fellow midfielder Dom McHale has a stomach problem that will be assessed in the morning.
An injury crisis has forced MOSSLEY boss Dave Fish to make two loan signings ahead of the visit to NPL first division west leaders Workington.
Midfielder Andreas Bianga makes the short move from Ashton United while winger Leon Arnasalam is on a dual registration from Macclesfield.
Fish, who is understood to have as many as eight players unavailable, said: "One lad was hurt when a ball hit him in the face two minutes before the end of training and a blood vessel in his eye burst. If I didn't laugh, I'd cry."
New signing Lewis Cunningham, a defender taken on loan from National League North club York City, should feature in GLOSSOP NORTH END's home clash with Bootle.
Sam Barratt is back after suspension but Hugo Rodriguez has a stomach bug and is classed as 50/50.

Short-Sellers Fear for the Future Wall Street’s skeptics are suffering Short-sellers have long been some of Wall Street’s most reviled villains. But the recent “meme stock” frenzy — in part, a concerted effort to squeeze such investors — has left many fearing for their livelihoods, The Times’s Kate Kelly and Matt Goldstein report. Short-sellers have been battered by the bull market. Hedge funds that primarily bet against stocks were down 47 percent over the past year. “Short-sellers have been beaten up and left for dead on the side of the road,” said Jim Chanos, the investor who famously bet against Enron ahead of its collapse. Now they are worried about new challenges: The GameStop frenzy shows that internet-enabled herds can bet en masse on companies, driving up their stock price and saddling shorts with huge losses. “I see dead hedge funds,” one user posted in a Reddit forum. Washington lawmakers are holding shorts up as potential market manipulators. “We must deal with the hedge funds whose unethical conduct directly led to the recent market volatility,” said Representative Maxine Waters, a Democrat, the head of the House Financial Services Committee who will oversee a Feb. 18 hearing on the meme stock mania. Crowded trades and a bull market have “destroyed what’s left of short-sellers,” said Marc Cohodes, a veteran investor. Some worry about their personal safety, too. Fahmi Quadir, who runs a $50 million hedge fund, shares her GPS coordinates with a colleague. And Gabe Plotkin, whose Melvin Capital was specifically targeted by Reddit traders, had to hire security after his family was threatened. HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING A setback in the fight against Covid-19. South Africa halted distribution of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine after a preliminary study showed that it had limited effect against the coronavirus variant first identified in the country. President Biden presses for a huge stimulus measure. The president defended efforts to pass a $1.9 trillion package with only Democratic votes, rejecting calls for smaller proposals. In related news, Democrats plan to unveil a $3,000-per-child cash payment. Democratic senators propose rewriting a tech legal shield. The “SAFE TECH Act,” proposed by Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, would establish limits to websites’ immunity from legal liability on user-posted content. It has encountered resistance from groups that say smaller tech platforms could be hurt more than giants like Google and Facebook. SoftBank’s Vision Fund posts a huge quarterly gain. The Japanese company’s tech investment fund reported an $8 billion profit in its latest quarter, thanks to portfolio companies like OpenDoor and DoorDash going public. SoftBank as a whole reported an $11 billion profit, surpassing estimates. The best of the Super Bowl. Sure, Tom Brady solidified his status as the greatest quarterback of all time as he led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a blowout victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. But let’s talk about the ads, which included pleas for unity (Bruce Springsteen for Jeep), nostalgic weirdness (Timothée Chalamet as the son of Edward Scissorhands for Cadillac) and just plain old weirdness (Toni Petersson, the C.E.O. of Oatly). Andrew’s favorite: Jason Alexander, in a manner of speaking, for Tide. Where do you get your financial advice? As lawmakers and regulators investigate the meme stock frenzy, they are taking a closer look at online forums and social media accounts. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said yesterday that she wanted to “make sure that investors are adequately protected.” Disclosures and disclaimers are in focus. The trader known as “Roaring Kitty” put a disclaimer on his popular YouTube videos about GameStop, recommending that potential investors consult an adviser before acting. But an analysis of more than 1,200 TikTok videos by 50 “StockTok” influencers found that 14 percent encouraged users to make trades without a disclaimer, according to the cryptocurrency trading platform Paxful. Those videos, some of which were flagged by TikTok as “misleading,” have garnered 28.4 million views. Regulators have been here before. During the dot-com boom, the S.E.C. kept tabs on chat rooms for signs of manipulation, as in the case of Jonathan Lebed, a teenager who posted messages touting stocks he owned. In September 2000, he settled with the agency by agreeing to pay back $285,000. There’s an ETF for that: The asset manager VanEck is starting a fund that scours Twitter, forums and blogs for stocks with a lot of online buzz. “The elements in the new system consist of central computers, an automatic communications network and desktop terminals.” — On this day 50 years ago, the Nasdaq booted up the first electronic stock exchange, which The Times called “the most revolutionary innovation in the history of the over-the-counter market.” Microsoft’s president talks politics After the Jan. 6 riot in Washington, companies have been rethinking their political donations, as we detailed this weekend. Microsoft, which has given hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent election cycles to Republicans who went on to challenge the certification of votes after the storming of the Capitol, said late last week that it would cut them off. In the first in-depth interview about the decision, Microsoft’s president, Brad Smith, spoke with Kara Swisher on the “Sway” podcast. One donation came as a particularly unpleasant surprise, Mr. Smith said, referring to a gift to Senator Josh Hawley, who led Republican efforts to question the election result. “When I learned in January that that donation had been made in the early part of December, it did not bring an enthusiastic beginning to my morning,” said Mr. Smith, who leaves day-to-day decisions in this area to the company’s PAC department. Microsoft has redefined its PAC policies. Mr. Smith said the company would now more explicitly consider issues like whether politicians “are good for democracy.” There is still a place for the corporate PAC, Mr. Smith argued. Although the point of a corporate PAC is up for debate, “I think we have one for good reasons,” he said. Those reasons, namely, are because crucial matters of privacy, security and competition are “going to be decided in the world of politics.” The serial SPAC sponsor Alec Gores strikes another deal The blank-check company Gores Holding VI is acquiring Matterport in a deal that values the real-estate technology company at $2.3 billion. The merger also includes a cash infusion of $640 million. Alec Gores was early to the SPAC game, notably with his firm’s 2016 deal for Hostess. The firm also boasts the biggest SPAC deal to date, taking United Wholesale Mortgage public last year in a deal worth more than $16 billion. Gores Holding raised its seventh SPAC last month, helping January set a record for SPAC fund-raising, with blank-check I.P.O.s worth nearly $26 billion. Today’s deal was the first by Gores since Justin Wilson and Ted Fike joined from Softbank’s Vision Fund, suggesting a tech shift for the firm’s SPAC business. Matterport makes spatial data technology that helps create 3-D visualizations of properties like homes and event spaces. The week ahead Corporate earnings continue to come in better than expected, defying initial forecasts of another pandemic-fueled decline and forcing analysts to upgrade their expectations. Blue-chip companies hoping to keep the streak alive this week include: Fox, KKR and Twitter on Tuesday; Coca-Cola, G.M. and Uber on Wednesday; and AstraZeneca, Disney and PepsiCo on Thursday. Bumble is scheduled to make its market debut midweek, and is predicted to raise about $1 billion in an I.P.O. that values the online dating company at around $6 billion. And finally, the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump starts on Tuesday. Will Biden curb the ‘curse of bigness’? The Biden administration must choose between taking a progressive view of antitrust regulations, using the law to rein in or break up big companies; sticking with the laissez-faire approach that critics say has led to extreme concentration; or trying to find some middle path. The pressure on the president from the left comes from those who argue that a tougher approach simply hearkens to the past, when the authorities recognized what Louis Brandeis, who went on to become a Supreme Court justice, called the “curse of bigness” in the early 20th century. “Monopoly power is a causal factor in our most serious economic challenges,” states a new report from the American Economic Liberties Project, an antimonopoly nonprofit, shared first with DealBook. The group argues for a new-old ideological regime that reins in consolidation, proposing dozens of actions for the Justice Department, F.T.C., F.C.C., Congress and many other official bodies. “This is a major project,” the group’s executive director, Sarah Miller, said. The need to “reject old ideological underpinnings” is a unifying theme throughout the report, she added. “There is not just one silver bullet.” A new lens is needed, Ms. Miller said. For decades, antitrust reviews have employed a “consumer welfare standard” that examines mergers for economic efficiency, mostly focused on the effect a deal has on prices. But people aren’t just consumers — they are also workers, voters, entrepreneurs and community members. In practice, Ms. Miller argues, as industries consolidate, consumers sometimes pay less for products, but wages also stagnate and entrepreneurship falters. “America’s concentration crisis did not emerge in the Trump years,” but it deepened during this time, according to the report. The group compiled a downloadable database of more than 1,300 significant mergers during the Trump era, noting that “basic, usable information” about M.&A. is mostly unavailable to the public. Fish counting on an improved performance
Non-league previews
FREDDIE SASS goes straight into the MOSSLEY squad for tomorrow (Saturday's) home clash with Colne in the Pitching In NPL first division west.
The left-back, signed from Tadcaster Albion in midweek, has joined a club that has lost its way badly in recent weeks.
Since the end of October, when they were top of the table and beat Hyde United in the FA Trophy, they have lost six straight matches across all competitions culminating in a 7-3 defeat at 1874 Northwich where they had led 3-0 after 20 minutes.
Even so, manager Dave Fish insists there is no need to panic. Earlier this week he told Tony Bugby of the Tameside Correspondent: "Apart from Whitby, who beat us 5-0 in the Trophy, there's been nothing in it.
“It's been frustrating, but it's not the time to panic. We're not a million miles away.”
Kane Hickman and Connor Morris have been added to the sick list with a minor injury and illness respectively, but there are signs the situation may be improving.
Antony Brown rejoins the squad having come through the last two training sessions unscathed. Will Shepherd and Dale Latham have recommenced light training.
"Hopefully the weather will ease and we'll put in a performance like the one against Ashton United and not like last weekend's," Fish added.
Alex Craddock has been appointed assistant-manager following the resignation of Lee Ashworth.
GLOSSOP NORTH END, unbeaten in their last six league matches, visit sixth-placed Runcorn Linnets.
Reuben Dass is back after recovering from a pre-season knee injury and the loan deals for Luke Nock (Stockport) and Ekow Coker (Macclesfield) have been extended for a month and two months respectively. Will Hartshorne has been released.
In the premier division, ASHTON UNITED manager Mike Clegg will find himself up against his friend Steve Cunningham, the former Curzon boss, when he takes his side to Derbyshire to face league leaders Buxton.
Clegg described the situation at Hurst Cross as "Baird and Bentham out. We're still waiting on a few, and potentially there could be a loan signing coming in."
STALYBRIDGE CELTIC manager Simon Haworth will be more concerned with the weather than the fitness of his squad as he prepares for the home clash with Paul Phillips’s title-challenging Matlock Town.
With Bower Fold having been subjected to a sustained deluge this week, Haworth will be hoping the forecast for improved weather means the game can go ahead.
He has the luxury of a fully fit squad to choose from and will be buoyed by the fighting spirit shown by his team in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Basford which was played in appalling conditions.
Both Celtic and Matlock are winless in three, setting up what looks to be an absorbing clash.
HYDE UNITED travel north to take on pre-season championship favourites South Shields. The only change to Jim Gannon's squad is the return of the left-sided Krisel Prifti.
In National League North, CURZON ASHTON are away to Hereford looking to end a sequence of two consecutive league defeats. Midfielder Dale Whitham joins Dom Knowles, Harry Flowers and Matt Challoner on the treatment table.

NFL picks, predictions against spread Week 7: Steelers stay perfect; 49ers edge Patriots; Packers rebound
Tumblr media
When making our NFL picks and predictions against the spread for Week 6, there were some tough beats and a few nice surprises. That’s the way the prognostication roller coaster goes, especially in a unusual, even more unpredictable season.
For now, there are no games of Week 7 being rescheduled, so that helps to have some sense of normalcy in how to figure out how prepared every team will be for their matchups. But there’s also that typical regression to the mean, where teams with either inflated or underachieving records will even out based on their true value.
Here’s our latest fearless forecast based on the early Las Vegas lines which will be adjusted accordingly if there should be some key changes:

NFL picks against the spread for Week 7
AFC Game of the Week: Steelers (-2.5, 52.5 o/u) at Titans
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
The Steelers’ defense is playing very well against run and pass, but it lost a key piece in linebacker Devin Bush. That said, they are still loaded in the pass rush, defensive line and secondary. The key to stopping the Titans is containing Derrick Henry, because his presence also sets up Ryan Tannehill to deliver a highly effective downfield play-action passing game. Pittsburgh defeated Cleveland with the same formula. The Titans are also much weaker defensively and will struggle with both slowing down James Conner and handling the diversity of playmakers around Ben Roethlisberger.
Pick: Steelers win 27-20 and cover the spread.
Game of the Midweek: Giants at Eagles (-6, 45 o/u)
Thursday, 8:20 p.m. ET, Fox, NFL Network and Amazon Prime Video
The Giants got their first win and the Eagles, with their tie against the Bengals, are only a half-game ahead. New York is missing Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and others to to squeeze their offensive potential with Daniel Jones. Philadephia has been ravaged by injuries around Carson Wentz, and now the latest are to running back Miles Sanders and tight Zach Ertz. The Eagles’ defense can still get in Jones’ face and make it easier on Wentz with key takaaways. But the Giants’ defense is overachieving and can keep this short-week, short-trip game close.
Pick: Eagles win 20-17 but fail to cover the spread.
Lock of the Week: Saints (-7.5, 51 o/u) over Panthers
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET,  Fox
The Saints know Teddy Bridgewater well and will bring the appropriate blitz packages against him. They also should be healthier in the secondary to improve their pass defense. They also will be improved in the passing game with MIchael Thomas and will be able to run well at will on the Panthers’ weakened front. No Christian McCaffrey for another week hurts here on the fast track of the Superdome. Look for Alvin Kamara to be in the spotlight and carry New Orleans to victory, buoyed by a few timely defensive plays.
Pick: Saints win 31-17 and cover the spread.
Upset of the Week: 49ers over Patriots ( -3.5, 45.5 o/u)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
The 49ers got healthier and grinded out a win against the Rams. Their offense is back to using unique skill players in creative play-calling, now that everyone is healthy. The Patriots’ defense and will focus to take away one thing, but it’s hard to do that because of the interchangeable, physical, quick big-play nature of George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Eight years ago, the 49ers went into New England and won with Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick. Here’s a similar result with Kyle Shanahan and former Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo. It’s very hard to trust Cam Newton and the Patriots’ offense against a still solid 49ers defense.
Pick: 49ers win 24-20.

Cowboys (-1, 47.5 o/u) at Washington Football Team
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Andy Dalton will be fine in his first road start for the Cowboys with plenty of help from Ezekiel Elliott in the running game and Washington not being able to slow down his receivers on deep routes. The Cowboys’ defense will show some life going after Kyle Allen when working with a lead. Washington’s limited weapons give the Cowboys’ struggling coverage a break, too.
Pick: Cowboys win 27-17 and cover the spread.
Bills (-11, 46.5 o/u) at Jets
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
There’s no line big enough for the Jets at the moment. They went through the motions in being shut out 24-0 by the Dolphins in Week 6. The Bills will be coming off two tough intra-conference matchups with the Titans and the Chiefs, looking to remind everyone they are about to finally reign over the AFC East competition for the first time in a long time. Josh Allen has a second big game on the Jets and ensures the Bills win comfortably again like they did in Week 1.
Pick: Bils win 34-20 and cover the spread.
Packers (-3, 56 o/u) at Texans
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
The Packers want to forget about all the offensive issues that had in Tampa and a trip to Houston to face a Texans’ defense that can neither hold up against run nor pass is just what the coordinator ordered for a get-well game. Aaron Rodgers will have a fun duel with Deshaun Watson as Green Bay’s defense will continue to struggle on the road. But in the end, they can control the game better with Aaron Jones and the rushing attack.
Pick: Packers win 34-27 and cover the spread.

Browns (-3.5, 51.5 o/u) at Bengals
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, CBS
The Browns held off the Bengals in a higher-scoring affair in Week 2 in Cleveland. That was coming off Baker Mayfield being battered and struggling against another, mightier AFC North foe in the Ravens. They will need to dig deep to respond well from the Steelers loss. Luckily they can keep it simple by running the ball well with Kareem Hunt and containing the running of Joe Mixon. Joe Burrow grinds through another matchup in the Battle of Ohio while the Browns get back on the winning track by going back to taking a game out of Mayfield’s hands.
Pick: Browns win 26-23 but fail to cover the spread.
Lions at Falcons ( -3, 56.5 o/u )
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, Fox
The Falcons came to life under interim coach Raheem Morris, sparked by the explosive return of their best player, wide receiver Julio Jones. Jones has made the entire passing game red-hot again for Matt Ryan and now it’s time save some face at home. The Lions looked good on the road in Jacksonville with more of D’Andre Swift, who returns to Georgia to duel fellow former Bulldog Todd Gurley. But with Jones, Calvin Ridley and others, Ryan has more support than his good friend Matthew Stafford, who also returns to Georgia. This is a friendly shootout but Atlanta holds another lead while Detroit gets closer to parting ways with its coach, Matt Patricia, too.
Pick: Falcons win 38-34 and cover the spread.
Buccaneers (-3, 53.5 o/u) at Raiders
Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET, Fox
Remember when Tom Brady was rumored to be going to the Raiders? Well, he found the right fit with the Buccaneers, while Derek Carr has been driven to put up more efficient and explosive numbers in 2020. The Bucs’ defense is deep and asserting itself with its strong run-stopping and pass-rushing baseline. They’re putting it together offensively with Brady, and their solid running with Ronald Jones will continue to be a factor here. The Bucs’ defense is also built to contain Carr’s key cogs, running back Josh Jacobs and tight end Darren Waller. Jones and the Bucs’ wideouts will have more success.
Pick: Buccaneers win 34-27 and cover the spread.
Jaguars at Chargers (-8, 49 o/u)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
Gardner Minshew might be hitting a second-year wall. He’s been a great story, but different types of defensive looks have started to get to him. Facing a well-rested Chargers defense capable of confusing with zone schemes featuring Joey Bosa and a strong secondary isn’t a formula to break out of a slump. Rookie Justin Herbert, his old Pac-12 QB rival, is off to a sizzling start making better use of all of his diverse weapons than Minshew is at the moment.
Pick:  Chargers win 35-20 and cover the spread.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Getty Images) https://images.daznservices.com/di/library/sporting_news/a7/87/justin-herbert-091920-getty-ftr_14yfjn7hijiyu1huc19l8z3h7q.jpg?t=-1379342644&w=500&quality=80
Chiefs (-10, 48 o/u) at Broncos
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
The Chiefs had a close call against the Chargers and lost to the Raiders. The first team did it with defense while the second team finished the job with offense. The Broncos don’t pose many obstacles or resistance either way. Drew Lock’s breakout is on delay because of injuries to him and elsewhere. The Broncos are good against the run, but the Chiefs’ passing game with Patrick Mahomes will open things up all over the field and eventually set up Le’Veon Bell for immediate impact.
Pick: Chiefs win 30-14 and cover the spread.
Seahawks (-3.5, 56 o/u) at Cardinals
Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC
The Seahawks will be coming off a bye while the Cardinals will be returning home on a short week, having played the Cowboys in Dallas on Monday night. Seattle should get significantly healthier offensively and defensively. where Russell Wilson will have his full skill and blocking support and Jamal Adams should return to clean up for the defense. The Cardinals don’t have their most impactful defender, Chandler Jones, to pressure Wilson. Kyler Murray isn’t facing worrisome rushers from the Seahawks, but they’ll just make enough plays on his receivers to preserve victory in another high-scoring affair.
Pick: Seahawks win 31-27 and cover the spread.
Bears at Rams (-6.5, 46 o/u)
Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN
The Bears are playing excellent pass defense because of Khalil Mack and the secondary. The Rams are playing excellent pass defense because of Aaron Donald and the secondary. Both teams are vulnerable against the run and it comes down to who you can trust to pound the ball more effectively and which QB will face less pressure as a result. It’s a clear advantage for a rebounding Jared Goff with Darrell Henderson vs. a shaky Nick Foles with David Montgomery. Bigger advantage, Sean McVay over Matt Nagy.
Pick: Rams win 24-17 and cover the spread.

Tumblr media
Matchday four and Amy Irons is browsing for her first Sportscene Predictions victory.
This week, the presenter from BBC Scotland’s The 9 takes on worn Scotland striker Julie Fleeting as both strive and forecast the outcomes of the weekend’s five Scottish Premiership suits.
Scottish Premiership – week 4 Amy Julie Hamilton Acad v St Mirren 0-1 1-2 Kilmarnock v St Johnstone 2-1 1-0 Ross County v Dundee Utd 2-1 1-2 Hibernian v Motherwell 3-1 2-2 Livingston v Rangers 0-2 0-2
A correct result (picking a rob, procedure or defeat) is worth 10 functions. The true score earns 40 functions.
Hamilton Academical v St Mirren (Sat, 15: 00 BST)
Neither facet played in midweek, nevertheless whereas there can be fresh legs, both are additionally missing some key avid gamers. Hamilton can be interesting to set up out and stable their first rob of the season and I will eye this being a shut come upon. Nonetheless I gallop to convey it would possibly maybe most likely maybe maybe be the internet site online visitors who’ll come away with the functions.
Amy’s prediction: 0-1
Julie’s prediction: 1-2
Kilmarnock v St Johnstone (Sat, 15: 00)
Each are making an try to search out his or her first rob and I reckon this also is really a thrilling match. Kilmarnock have set apart in stable performances to yelp some extent from both Ross County and Celtic, whereas St Johnstone will hope having Michael O’Halloran back will give them a risk in attack that they were missing towards Rangers.
Amy’s prediction: 2-1
Julie’s prediction: 1-0
Ross County v Dundee Utd (Sat, 15: 00)
Or not it’s silent early days nevertheless County can glean tons of positives from their first three video games angry about they were fighting relegation final season. Dundee United’s first away game yielded three functions at Motherwell and they also’ve managed four to this point. A energetic one to name nevertheless I’ll back the home facet.
Amy’s prediction: 2-1
Julie’s prediction: 1-2
Hibernian v Motherwell (Sat, 17: 30)
Hibs’ Jack Ross can be happy alongside with his facet’s 100% launch up the season, nevertheless Motherwell’s Stephen Robinson used to be visibly dissatisfied following a 2-2 procedure towards Livingston. The final time the sides met at Easter Avenue, Hibs won 3-1 and I gallop to pass for the same on Saturday.
Amy’s prediction: 3-1
Julie’s prediction: 2-2
Livingston v Rangers (Sun, 16: 30)
The Tony Macaroni Area is really a energetic position to pass nevertheless, given Rangers’ have, I agree with it would possibly maybe most likely maybe maybe be Livingston going thru a shrimp of a battle this weekend. Steven Gerrard’s facet have not conceded to this point and won their final two video games 3-0. I will eye a few of Livingston’s key avid gamers inflicting problems nevertheless Rangers have won the final six meeetings, conserving a dapper sheet in five of them, and I agree with they’ll maintain the same on Sunday.
Amy’s prediction: 0-2
Julie’s prediction: 0-2
