Dear American Jews,
I don't pretend to know what's going to happen in the US, but I can tell you stories from France.
In hindsight, it was after the 1970s PLO and FPLP great terror waves, but when more Arabs began living and feeling at home in France.
Between them and the "GUD", some extreme-right militia/student group which somehow also got more active . the harassment in synagogues and Jewish cultural centers began rising.
The wide, ornate XIXth century wooden door of our quiet synagogue closed except for a few hours a year, when MANY policemen were around. Its internal panel was reinforced in steel. The beautiful stained glass windows were covered from the outside, and small electric lights installed behind them.
We got used to come in via the small service entrance, where 2-3 volunteers opened only on demand, and came out to "chat" with any unknown person requesting entry before giving the OK.
The lackadaisy, grey-haired cop in front, who used to chat up the kids and whistle cartoons tunes for us, disappeared. In his place came either a small van with 5 "CRS" (the "assault" cops) in it, or only 2 CRS, twice as big as our old friend it seemed, with ceramic vest and actual rifles.
They never ruffled our hair , but looked severe and intent. Barely accepted the plates of food us kids would bring out for them from the synagogue buffet (that one did get to thaw them, though. They liked the food).
The crowd in front of the entrance disappeared, too. Either our security or the cops would order us to "disperse" quickly after the service.
Then came "incidents" in a few other places, and after them the parking interdiction before the door was extended almost all over the block. Didn't make us many friends with the neighbors, I can tell you.
Then a few kids were accosted when they crossed the street, and after many discussions with the municipality a cop appeared there, too.
Then, as we got a little older, many kids were recruited for the security duty. We had krav-maga and "calling in the MORE serious police" procedures lessons, and such. I think if you're not a religious Jew, it's difficult to understand the feeling of a religious teenager actually switching a walkie-talkie on, on a Saturday morning before prayer, under the eyes of the rabbi , IN THE SYNAGOGUE.
Something akin to spitting on a crucifix but knowing it's ok? Dunno. You feel both important and wrong. Mainly wrong.
Then, somewhere, a car came on to a synagogue and the guys inside opened fire on the entrance, which was left open (there. There. In our place it wouldn't have happened). The cops before the door just went splat on the pavement and waited for it to be over, and it was the civil volunteer, a middle-aged dad with a belly, who closed the door.
Mucho honor to the security volunteers, mucho stress. That was around the year we almost called the SWATs on the cousin of a friend, who looked Middle Eastern, rode in the quiet street too fast on his big bike, and pretended to come in with his helmet on (the stupid, stupid macho stupidness of 19yo boys).
On and on. Year after year it's become worse. Now you need a special password to read the synagogue's website, and there's a digicode at the entrance, ON TOP of the security volunteers and the cops.
Now nobody needs to tell the crowd to disperse, everybody says their goodbyes inside and leaves quickly.
I haven't been back since October 7, but my friends tell me of graffiti and threatening flyers, of parents who've taken the kids out of the Sunday school.
They're resigned, but I've become too much an Israeli already. I'm angry.
Now I know we should have hired frightening rent-a-cops back then already, the kind the hoodlums don't approach if they know what's good for them.
We shouldn't have burrowed inside and kindly asked the police for perhaps another cop on the other side of the street, but stormed the accosters and given them hell.
In the 90es, protecting a Jewish outdoor fair, I became familiarized with the "wonderful" uses of a soda can full of rocks and kitchen knives, courtesy of the Paris suburbs "shabab" (didn't know the word back then).
We should have seen it coming. Now it's your turn.

It is easy to make jokes about the Eastern European and Jewish prerogative about food. It is not so easy when you know both groups have been literally starved to death through no fault of their own.
It is easy for someone to say "why didn't they just leave" but not so easy knowing because these murders by starvation were intentional, the victims were actively prevented from leaving. Which in itself is proof it was intentional for these people to starve to death.
If you want us to believe something like the Holodomor was a natural famine you shouldn't also tell us about internal passports (something many countries have done in order to keep an eye on where their "undesirables" are going) and people being shot for trying to board trains, planes, busses, and carriages. If, instead, it was natural, why stop people from going somewhere that there IS food?
Through the lens of epigenetics we can begin to understand why a third generation American of EE/Jewish descent might have this anxiety about food, about making sure there is enough, that we remember those who are less fortunate, that we appear to subsist entirely on leftovers. Or, indeed, why many with these epigenetic changes tend to trend towards higher percentages of body fat. Our bodies through our genes remember a time nobody could be even a pound overweight and it knows that the body literally eats itself as we starve and the first to go of course is body fat so our bodies, knowing all this, make sure we have extra "God forbid (ptoo ptoo ptoo), just in case".
"They tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat" isn't just a pithy saying. We outlived them even despite being unable to eat. We do not hoard food, we just happen to have a lot of leftovers through this anxiety about food. "Oy, I ate too much" is a blessing. With it, we are aware of how few times our ancestors could say the same. During Pesach (Passover), we have an entire dinner party (complete with perhaps a little too much wine) and recline in style as we eat matzo and remember why it is just so damn flat (we rushed off to escape from Egypt without finishing making our dough. D'oh!). Everything on the seder plate has a meaning, with some items being added or removed based on the traditions of the family or congregation doing the seder. Such as in the past couple years the olive is added to symbolize the hope for peace in Ukraine (or, for some, peace in the Middle East). Or the orange to symbolize the inclusion of the LGBTQ community.
Perhaps it seems paradoxical to eat so much in one sitting instead of saving some for a time where food may be scarce. But it goes hand in hand with "They tried to kill us, they failed". We have survived another day and have enjoyed good food and good company. In spite of everything they did to us. We feast out of spite. Perhaps because of all those times our enemies were eating without a care in the world while our ancestors watched and starved. We have proof of commie buffets while starving Ukrainians watched from the street. We have proof of Jews being teased with food, with Gentiles tossing heels of bread on the ground so they could watch as said Jews fought over it or flinging a sausage and laughing as Jews raced to get it as if they were playing fetch with a dog. Or the innumerable times people were killed for stealing a handful of grain when many times they were the ones who had farmed the grain in the first damn place.
There are many who do not see starvation as a tool of genocide. They don't understand how starvation can break a community. Death by Hunger, the translation of Holodomor, was not about control like people claim (in other words they claim the death was an accident, that the starving was meant to keep people in line. If they had just behaved themselves they wouldn't have died etc.,). It was always and forever about a stronger group ridding the world of another group without getting literal and metaphorical blood on their hands. They could cite plausible deniability. It wasn't their fault, honest, it was just bad luck.
The stereotypical scene of people in lines that stretch multiple city blocks was in fact the norm. And more often than not, only the first few dozen would get anything at all and everyone else would find they had wasted an entire day waiting for food that was never meant to be given to them in the first place. The supply was purposely small. At least for those who were either too low in the Party or not a part of it at all. For Jews, you turned to the black market which was often caught selling spoiled food as well as food that wasn't actually food at all (such as sawdust masquerading as bread). Which happened even with regular stores because as a Jew you could only buy certain things and everyone knew it and still would not sell the genuine article because why should they? It is, after all, going to a Jew. Soviet areas were guilty of doing this to everyone, too.
So if you are visiting an EE and/or Jewish home and they actively push food on you and insist you take leftovers, that is their love language. We want you to have enough because far too many times our people did not. And in Jewish culture, it is a literal mitzvah to provide food to those who cannot procure it themselves either because of money/access, or they are going thru the bereavement process or otherwise incapable of dealing with making sure they have something to eat (such as an illness that prompts them being added to the Mi Shebeirach list which in many congregations is printed and given out to refer to during the Mi Shebeirach prayer during services and may also be paired with the mourner's kaddish list). It is why when you go to a house where the occupants are sitting Shiva, you will often find their kitchen stacked with tupperware of varying sizes and cuisine and you will often be instructed to bring something as well though it isn't a requirement. Generally, your presence is considered the more important aspect of the Jewish bereavement process. (Just do not say you are going to sit Shiva with someone. Rather, you are paying a Shiva call or condolence call. Only the mourners are in fact sitting Shiva. Also important: try the door first before ringing or knocking, as usually that is seen as an interruption to sitting Shiva which is frowned upon. And do not literally call them unless told otherwise for the same reason.)
Food makes or breaks us. Food is not inherently moral or immoral. And yes, perhaps there is always room for dessert. And maybe we do eat too much but that's okay. We have survived to enjoy it, so let us do so. Nu, it is what our ancestors would want.
#anti communism#holodomor#judaism#jumblr#ukrainian#culture#food mention#the holodomor was genocide#genocide tag#gosh i went all over the place in this didn't i#i'm sorry it started storming and i was hiding out in the bath tub trying to get my lower body to stop screaming in pain lmao#long post#anyway chag pesach sameach

As you know, 2024 will be the Year of the Dragon according to the eastern horoscope. This beast is noble and powerful, inspiring awe. Blank doesn’t particularly inspire anything other than a good mood, but, as Taranee would say: “there are also small dragons.”
(English is not my native language, so there may be mistakes. Please be understanding)
This costume and the image itself are taken from a series with the play (“Ambush at Torus Filne”). In it we learn about how the crystal appeared, giving the guards strength. The legend of compassionate dragons who relieved people from drought overlaps markedly with another legend. From Earth.
"The Jade Emperor Yu-di organized a race among the animals to determine the order of the zodiac signs. Such a powerful and energetic beast as the Dragon had every chance of becoming the first. But when he was close to the finish line, he saw a village that was suffering from drought. He flew over clouds and caused rain to help starving people.
The dragon continued on his way, but saw another village - it was threatened by flooding. He took pity on the residents, swallowed the water and only then continued on his way.
Just before the finish line, the Dragon saw that the Rabbit was being chased by the Wolf. To save the Rabbit, the Dragon let him go ahead. And so it happened that the strong and powerful creature finished fifth in the race, after the Rat, Ox, Tiger and Rabbit."
In the "W.I.T.C.H" version, four dragons representing the elements were imprisoned in the mountains because they dared to help people without asking permission from their Emperor. It turns out that in both legends the Dragon suffered from his own kindness?
This is partly true. And in fact, this is not the worst moral, although at first glance it does not seem so. By helping someone, you may actually miss an opportunity or get into trouble. No matter how much we wish that life would encourage noble deeds more.
But altruism should not be idealized. There's nothing wrong with being aware of the risks. Belief in a “just world”, where everyone is rewarded according to their actions, very often leads to disappointment and the thought “if something bad happened to me, I probably wasn’t good enough.” And to devaluing other people's troubles.
There is no kind of universal justice in the world and no clearly working karmic slaps on the head. However, there are other people, good and not so good. What you do may resonate with them. For example, a good deed performed in spite of any difficulties. And then real magic can happen, accessible even beyond the boundaries of legends.
I sincerely wish you to find a common language with yourself, to love yourself (within adequate limits). Find a solid foundation of confidence under your feet. And then no difficulties in life will become insurmountable for you.
If after this you find the strength and time to support other people, to inspire them with your example is wonderful. If not, this will not make you a bad person. Healthy selfishness is a wonderful thing. And good deeds should not be forced. __________________________
In addition to references to the symbol of the year, the art contains intersections with a recent answer in the ask. Anyone who read the accompanying post knows.
Caleb, one might say, is preparing a festive buffet. But the bull doesn't really want to be the main dish :D
I have long been attracted to garlands with dried orange slices. They are so warm and cozy. I wanted to add them to at least one of the New Year's arts :3
This idea later developed into the concept of natural Christmas tree decorations. Still, the Middle Ages reign on Meridian. It is unlikely that there is such an abundance of plastic toys there as we have now (the main thing is not to wonder whether there are citrus fruits in this fictional world).
But I still added a garland and balloons, I couldn’t resist. Maybe the girls brought it from Earth (making sure that everything would run on batteries) :D
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Totally Spies! S1 E10-15
ok we watched these late last night while also a lil high so its a lil hazy. also we have found a new top contender for the worst episode. not for the usual reasons. here ya go
oh also i rearranged a few of the last ones cuz they were just. wrong.
ok lets get to the notes
Silicon Valley Girls: ai named CHAD starts torturing people who bullied his creator Adam, machine kinda sexyevil like glados?, saying shit to everyone like "you've been a very bad boy. you deserve punishment" also CHAD reprograms Adam
Queen for a Day: fetishization of North African/ Middle Eastern women, kidnapping, bondage, forced dating
Shrinking: honestly not as bad as it could've been, micro/macro stuff, clover does wear doll's clothes at the end tho
Aliens: actually almost fine other than the torture/ murder machine, and also the organization called Gooper? more on this episode later
Wild Style: oh boy! this episode is the Island of Doctor Moreau but with Jimmy Buffet and Buffalo Bill (but a lady), evil fashion lady forcibly turns people into animal people so she can flay them and make clothing out of their fur/skin, she does in fact wear a coat made of human skin, she served cunt tho so i support women's wrongs, oh also clover becomes a catgirl and her outfit rips in some horny ways :/
Ok so now that that's out of the way, I NEED to talk about the geopolitical implications of the totally spies! world. so we see a couple world maps in the episode "Aliens"
so i have a couple theories for this situation. the breaks in the countries vaguely correspond to real tectonic faults? and we see an earthquake generator in this episode that's the size of a radio? so im thinking since there's basically constant supervillian activities, this may be causing the faults to move rapidly. and also IS CALIFORNIA AN ISLAND??
despite this drastic geologic difference to our earth, we often see a lot of places in this show mostly unchanged. like. Mexico has been Fucked but we still see Mexico City. We see New York twin towers and all. And Beverly Hills of course. There are some made up countries like Kenyopia and Lirobia (i think) but its like. An excuse for them to use weird medieval middle eastern stereotypes for a modern day thingie i guess. There were some others but I'm not going back and watching past episodes. France and Peru and China all exist. Also, Ivy pointed out that the Great Wall of China is still there even though there's a sea there now? We're gonna start noting these things now.
I also have some stuff to say about the music but we'll save that for it's own post.
11 episodes left in Season 1!

Top 10 Global Cuisine Trends in Event Catering This 2025
The catering Melbourne industry is continuously evolving, with 2025 ushering in a new wave of trends that merge tradition with innovation, sustainability with flavour, and culture with creativity. As event planners strive to deliver memorable experiences, food plays a pivotal role in setting the tone and enhancing the atmosphere. From global flavours to sustainable approaches, here are the top 10 global cuisine trends shaping the world of event catering this year:
1. Fusion Flavours: Blending Global Cuisines
Fusion cuisine has long been a culinary trend, but in 2025, it’s expected to take a more adventurous turn. With a heightened interest in cross-cultural collaboration, chefs are increasingly combining the culinary traditions of various regions to create innovative dishes. Guests can indulge in unique combinations like Korean BBQ tacos, sushi burritos, and Mediterranean-inspired pizza topped with tzatziki and falafel. The possibilities are endless, as fusion cuisine allows for the blending of spicy, savoury, sweet, and sour profiles into one dish. For example, Mexican street corn (elote) might be paired with Japanese miso butter or Moroccan-spiced lamb could make its way into a Brazilian-style empanada. These fusion dishes serve as conversation starters while showcasing culinary expertise.
2. Sustainable and Plant-Based Menus
As more people prioritise health and the environment, sustainable and plant-based menus are becoming a cornerstone of event catering. Veganism and plant-based diets have evolved far beyond simple salads or veggie platters, and now feature creative, hearty options. In 2025, expect plant-based options that are flavourful, colourful, and satisfying. For instance, jackfruit, which mimics pulled pork, could be featured in sliders or tacos, while cauliflower steaks could serve as a main course alternative to meat. Sustainability will also take centre stage, with caterers opting for locally grown organic produce, seasonally sourced ingredients, and eco-friendly packaging to reduce their carbon footprint. Desserts like vegan chocolate mousse made from avocado or coconut milk-based ice cream will continue to satisfy sweet cravings while being mindful of the planet.
3. Street Food-Inspired Buffets
Street food isn’t just for casual dinners—it’s becoming a beloved feature of upscale events. Offering an informal, interactive experience, street food-inspired catering lets guests sample small portions of a wide variety of dishes from around the world. From Korean bibimbap bowls and Thai satay skewers to Italian arancini and Mexican tacos, this trend allows for customisation and fun interaction. Food stations or food trucks featuring international street food will dominate event spaces in 2025, providing guests with a chance to interact with the food, watch it being prepared, and even add their own toppings or spices. This trend is particularly well-suited for festivals, corporate parties, or weddings looking for a lively and vibrant culinary atmosphere.
4. Interactive Food Stations
Guests love being part of the action, and interactive food stations are the perfect way to engage them. Whether it's a "build-your-own" ramen bar, a make-your-own taco station, or a sushi roll customisation table, these stations offer something for everyone. They also create a sense of excitement and social interaction. Food stations allow guests to customise their meals, choose their ingredients, and even learn a thing or two about the preparation process. Technology is making this trend even more dynamic. For example, smart salad bars allow guests to use touchscreen ordering systems to design their bowls, while 3D-printed desserts or intricate edible art can provide a high-tech, show-stopping experience. This trend enhances the dining experience by combining food and entertainment.
5. Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Influence
The flavours of the Middle East and Mediterranean continue to captivate palates worldwide, and 2025 will see them integrated into event catering menus more than ever. Rich in spices, herbs, and fresh ingredients, these cuisines offer a deliciously fragrant mix of dishes that cater to various dietary needs. Mezze platters filled with hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, and falafel are becoming staples at events, offering guests small bites that celebrate regional ingredients. Expect dishes like shawarma wraps, kebabs, and grilled seafood infused with spices like cumin, coriander, and sumac. Mediterranean-inspired salads, grilled vegetables, and tzatziki sauces will also be featured heavily. These flavorful dishes are not only tasty but also incredibly nutritious, providing guests with healthy options that can easily be tailored to dietary preferences.
6. Zero-Waste Catering
As the world becomes more conscious of environmental issues, the demand for zero-waste catering is growing. Caterers in 2025 will focus on minimising waste by utilising every part of their ingredients, from root-to-stem cooking to finding creative uses for food scraps. This might include turning vegetable scraps into flavorful broths or using citrous peels to make zesty garnishes. In addition to reducing waste, zero-waste catering practices will extend to packaging. Expect biodegradable or compostable plates, cups, and cutlery to replace single-use plastic items, contributing to an overall reduction in landfill waste. This trend aligns with sustainability efforts and meets the growing demand for environmentally friendly practices, all while providing guests with delicious meals.
7. Hyperlocal and Regional Specialities
2025 will see a significant rise in hyperlocal and regional cuisine, as people increasingly seek authentic culinary experiences that reflect the region they’re in. Event caterers will focus on locally sourced ingredients and traditional recipes that highlight the unique flavours of the area. From farm-to-table dinners featuring seasonal produce to locally sourced fish and meats, these menus emphasise freshness, sustainability, and community support. Regional specialities like South Carolina BBQ, New England clam chowder, or the famous French baguette will be front and centre at events. The goal is to create an immersive experience that introduces guests to the distinct culinary culture of the area.
8. High-Quality Street Food for Luxury Events
Luxury events are taking street food to the next level, offering upscale versions of beloved comfort foods. Think gourmet dumplings with truffle oil, lobster rolls in fresh brioche buns, or wagyu beef sliders with wasabi aioli. The idea is to elevate the humble street food experience while maintaining its accessibility and familiarity. High-quality ingredients, expert preparation, and artistic presentation transform these classic favourites into indulgent, refined dishes. Luxury event caterers are creating elaborate food displays with intricate details and top-tier ingredients that bring street food into the world of fine dining.
9. Global Dessert Innovations
Dessert is a critical part of any event, and in 2025, it's going global. While traditional sweets like French macarons, Italian gelato, and Mexican churros will always have a place, caterers are taking global dessert traditions to new heights. In addition to iconic treats from around the world, 2025 will see the rise of interactive dessert stations where guests can personalise their sweets with international flavours. Imagine assembling your own sundae with exotic fruits, international syrups, and unique toppings, or creating your own Japanese-inspired matcha cake with personalised fillings. Desserts will be as much about the experience as they are about the flavors, with global influences bringing fresh and exciting options to event menus.
10. Wellness-Centred Menus
Health consciousness is a key driver in 2025's event catering scene. Guests are increasingly interested in eating food that nourishes both their bodies and minds, without sacrificing taste. Wellness-centred menus feature ingredients that are nutrient-rich and have specific health benefits, such as antioxidant-packed acai bowls, energy-boosting smoothies, and protein-rich quinoa bowls. Expect to see more superfoods incorporated into event menus—ingredients like chia seeds, spirulina, turmeric, and matcha are being used to create dishes that are as beneficial as they are delicious. Guests at wellness-focused events may even have the opportunity to sample dishes that promote gut health or help to boost the immune system.
The catering world in 2025 is driven by diverse global flavours, sustainability, and an elevated experience that engages guests on all levels. Whether through fusion cuisine, plant-based innovation, or interactive food stations, the goal is to provide a culinary journey that is unforgettable. These trends reflect the increasing desire for personalisation, healthier choices, and a focus on environmental responsibility. For event planners and caterers, staying ahead of these trends means delivering an extraordinary experience that aligns with modern tastes and values.
By embracing these exciting trends, catering services will be able to bring the world’s best flavours to any event while leaving guests with a deeper appreciation of the culinary arts.

大家好! I'd mentioned in previous posts that I wanted to eat more legumes and lentils to support Palestinians and Lebanese. Hummus is delicious as well as an easy way to include more Middle Eastern food in my regular meals. Both roasted carrot and original hummus were tasty, so I bought 2 other flavours to try - red pepper as well as coriander. So far, I've enjoyed this delicacy with potato buns and celery. I intend to have it with carrot sticks and other foods. And here's my 2025 resolution: to eat hummus, try baba ganoush as well as explore other ways to enjoy them.

What's next: noodles with Palestinians in Gaza. Innocent children in the war-torn strip are so hungry, they scrape the bottom of humanitarian aid pots and eat whatever is left. Hunger is still very prevalent there; highlighting their plight is the least we can do to help. To do this, I opened a bowl of hua diao jiu ji mian (Chinese rice wine chicken noodles). Even as I eat instant noodles with Palestinians, my privilege is obvious; my bowl contained rehydrated chicken and this meal contained 19gm of protein. This is sorely missing when it comes to noodles dished out or cooked in Gaza. Nonetheless, it's winter there; access to a hot meal is better than none. I hope Palestinians are able to sip hot soup to keep warm like I did when I ate hua diao jiu ji mian.

Just a reminder that I'm continuing my simple breakfasts out of compassion for Palestinians in Gaza. This ready to eat meal of millet, beans, tuna, sweet corn and cherry tomatoes is a new flavour so I decided to try it. JK saw me having this for second breakfast in the office and asked what it was. After I showed him what the mini meals are, he said they're quite nutritious and he wanted to try them because he's sick of sliced bread. For people who aren't legume and lentil fans, these tasty alternatives help us to support Palestinians and Lebanese whilst they go through much hardship.

Mummy and I treated ourselves to buffet lunch because, why not. Starting off with extremely fresh sashimi, we moved onto tonkatsu ramen. This was very delicious except for the ramen. It lacked the signature QQ texture of the highest quality noodles. Next, I loaded my plate with lots of fresh vegetables - asparagus, broccolini, shiitake and enoki mushrooms and sweet corn - as well as scrambled eggs with crab meat and veggies and Pacific clams. Finally, dessert was pineapple, rock melon, watermelon and dragon fruit.
youtube
Tumblr is now restricting the articles/videos we share down from 10 to 9. Not sure why this is happening but I hope it isn't due to censorship about what is happening in Gaza. Nonetheless, if this is indeed what is happening, I'll find a way to spread the word about Palestinians' immense suffering. Most of us are already disillusioned about human rights. Perhaps in time, we'll be as disillusioned with Western claims about free speech. Who knows when double standards and hypocrisy are so exposed, right? 下次见!

Hey, I love your writing. Could you please do a Pepe Marti one where the reader and Pepe have been together for a while and they are at the club celebrating end of season and some on the grid is flirting with reader and Pepe gets super protective. I hope this makes sense!
pepe marti x reader, established relationship
“Pepe finally let you light up the club?”
summary : Pepe and his girlfriend enjoy a fun night out celebrating a win, dancing and laughing together, until a colleague crosses a line. Pepe steps in, showing how much he cares, all without saying a word.
Those two weren’t exactly the type to party at a club, but when Gabriel had clinched the championship title in a last-minute showdown and invited them to celebrate, they couldn’t refuse. Their plan for the evening was to enjoy themselves in their own way—maybe have a drink or two without overdoing it, and dance to some of the songs they knew.
They arrived in the car Pepe's team had provided him for the race weekend, dressed casually, sporting those broad smiles they wore whenever they were together, and carrying a small gift for the champion. The Brazilian driver was almost certainly already on the dance floor, surrounded by his girlfriend and basking in the winner’s euphoria, and they knew perfectly well that this was his cup of tea.
The season had been tough for Pepe, full of disappointments, but Abu Dhabi had brought him his first win in the category, allowing him to forgive all the races that had chipped away at his self-confidence. Now, more than ever, he felt accomplished. He was a university student, beginning to make his mark on the grid, and he had a wonderful girlfriend who loved him so much that she didn’t even mind how often he wasn’t around.
One of his hands rested lightly on her shoulder, his fingers brushing against the soft skin revealed by her light blouse. He found it rewarding to see her like this occasionally—without the heavy hoodies she usually wore, and with a face that recognized her own beauty, after all the time he’d spent trying to convince her of it. Because yes, they had met as two people who didn’t care much about appearances and focused on their passions, but over time, they had also learned to help each other feel valued. And going shopping together was a nightmare for her.
“This place is nice,” he remarked, looking up at the nightclub’s dome, which seemed made of glass and reflected the venue's subtle lighting.
“A bit loud, but nice,” she replied. As expected, the place was packed with young people—and some not so young—each celebrating a different milestone.
There was an unmistakable Middle Eastern vibe, with arches and mosaic-adorned columns, adding a touch of sophistication that seemed somewhat at odds with the venue’s ultimate purpose. Everyone seemed to be dancing the night away—some clutching glasses of amber-colored liquid, others climbing onto taller friends’ shoulders to get an unobstructed view of the DJ set.
“Tell me when you feel tired or anything, and we’ll go,” the driver whispered in her ear as they made their way toward the private room Gabriel had personally reserved, complete with a small buffet for those like Paul, who had half-joked that free food was one reason he had come.
“Normally, I’d say the same for you, but that’s not the case,” she smiled, knowing full well Pepe would enjoy himself.
When the two of them entered the room, most of the grid was still warming up, either seated on armchairs or leaning against the grand columns. Meanwhile, Gabriel was chatting with Isabella, laughing, and clearly elated with his achievement and excited about what lay ahead.
“Look who’s here,” Isack, Pepe’s teammate, greeted him, moving in for a hug.
It was surprising to see the Algerian driver at the party, considering his car had stalled on the starting grid, crushing his hopes of competing for the championship or even making a fight of it.
“I didn’t expect you to come,” said Pepe with a smile, giving him a few friendly pats on the shoulder.
“I know I’m more than just that race, and I know what the future holds.”
Pepe nodded, deciding to make the rounds and greet everyone. He planted a kiss on his girlfriend’s forehead—a gesture that, as always, made her wrinkle her nose—before she headed for the buffet, where she found the Estonian driver from Hitech already halfway through a plate of stuffed dates.
“You’re really enjoying that,” she laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her shoulder to keep it out of her way.
“They’re out of this world,” he replied, dressed in a white shirt and a pair of elegant trousers.
“I think you’re trying to trick me into trying them.”
Pepe watched them with a soft smile, well aware that the two had formed a solid friendship and that the blonde driver’s mix of playfulness and seriousness complemented her personality. Especially now that she had started working with companies specializing in trackside photography, often collaborating with drivers like him.
“God, you were right,” she said, covering her mouth with her hand after taking a bite.
It was a good environment—a group of drivers who had spent the season battling it out on the tracks for a step closer to their childhood dreams. With only a few exceptions, they had bonded and turned their sport into a backdrop for fun and trust, culminating in this evening. The 2024 season had seen many leave, choosing different paths for their careers, or being forced out due to insufficient funding or questionable team politics. And she was happy to be a small part of it, alongside all the other women who had stumbled into love with guys who did something so incredible for a living.
Sometime later, everyone made their way to the dance floor, moving to songs that had recently gone viral on social media and had the perfect rhythm for dancing. Among them were Pepe and his girlfriend, who decided to let loose and celebrate. They found themselves in the middle of hundreds of others, letting go, but still managing to catch each other’s gaze and pull off some questionable dance moves that brought them closer or pushed them apart. Pepe tried, unsuccessfully, to remember the chorus lyrics, making her laugh as he guided her with his large hands on her hips.
All around them, the venue was exploding with energy, hyping up the DJ.
It felt like they were in a bubble—one where they didn’t care what anyone else thought and where they could enjoy the night their way.
“You should go to your mates. I’ll stay with Isa,” she smiled, deciding it was time for a bathroom break and a glass of water. She wanted Pepe to have fun and feel free to goof around with his friends.
“Are you sure?”
She nodded, giving him a quick kiss on the nose before walking off. She settled into one of the armchairs in the drivers’ room, adjusted her blouse, grabbed her things, and headed toward the restroom, where she would find Isabella. But before she got there, someone stopped her, making her turn around.
“Pepe finally let you light up the club?” Victor Martins’s strong French accent was unmistakable.
The man held a half-empty colored glass in one hand, the other tucked into his trouser pocket, and he smiled at her with the usual warmth he displayed in her presence. He had noticed her quite some time ago, watching as she hummed along to a popular tune in that white blouse that lit up her face and made her eyes shine in the light. Her hair wasn’t straightened as it often was, so soft curls cascaded down her back, bouncing with every step she took.
“He was down to celebrate,” she smiled back, trying to be friendly.
“Will I see you on the floor later?”
“Maybe,” she shrugged, politely excusing herself before heading into the restroom to chat and share a few laughs with the Brazilian driver.
______ had always been an exemplary ambivert, but she tried to maintain a small smile and an approachable demeanor with everyone, without even a hint of malice. The last thing she wanted was to disrespect Pepe by speaking inappropriately with his colleagues, so her behavior with those she interacted with was entirely rooted in her personality.
“He’s been eyeing you all night,” the Brazilian remarked, clearly unimpressed by the Frenchman’s demeanor. Usually, he was kind and approachable, but calling him odd that evening was an understatement.
“I’m not even different from every other day,” she replied, with a nagging feeling in her chest—despite knowing she was wrong—that Pepe might think she was somehow encouraging the attention.
“Why would you need to be different? You’re gorgeous, and it seems Pepe’s not the only one who’s noticed.”
“I’m starting not to like this evening.”
This was one of the most noticeable traits of her personality. The moment a thought made her feel even slightly less comfortable than she should, she couldn’t help but let it ruin her night.
“But you know what? Gabri’s the champion, Pepe’s a winner, and we’re celebrating!” Isabella teased, taking her hand and leading her out of the bathroom. Almost immediately, they noticed the Sauber driver for 2025 being hoisted into the air by the other guys in time with the music.
Their faces were lit up with enormous smiles and the carefree joy only people their age could possess. It was heartwarming to see them like that.
The two girls stayed on one side of the dance floor, with Isabella trying to loosen up Pepe’s girlfriend, grabbing her hands and encouraging her to move while the others hyped up the DJ and raised the stakes with increasingly bold dance moves.
They were having fun, and yes, they were celebrating—because they loved those boys so much that every one of their victories felt like their own.
When Isabella wandered off to steal her boyfriend away from the dynamic group of drivers, Pepe’s girlfriend felt Victor approach, leaning casually against the column behind her.
“I don’t usually say this, but if I had a girl like you, I wouldn’t let you out of my sight,” the Frenchman remarked.
“Isn’t that a bit old-fashioned?” she replied, raising an eyebrow without turning to face him. Her eyes were locked on Pepe, who was enjoying himself with the younger drivers on the grid.
“You know, if he slips up even for a second, I’m not saying I wouldn’t try my luck.”
She didn’t like where this was going. In fact, she disliked it immensely. It made her feel uncomfortable, and the fact that Victor was one of Pepe’s colleagues didn’t help—it only made her feel more awkward.
“It’s bold of you to assume it would be luck,” she replied curtly.
“Be honest—don’t you ever think you could do better?”
She turned, shocked to see a side of Victor she’d never encountered before.
“Sure, he’s a good guy, but good guys can only take you so far, right?”
“Look, Victor, I’m going to be honest,” she sighed, her hands trembling slightly in the face of such an unfamiliar situation. “I don’t like how you’re overstepping my boundaries. I’m with Pepe, and that’s it.”
“Whoa, whoa… boundaries? I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
Too bad for him, it seemed both she and Isabella, who was watching from a distance, thought quite the opposite.
“Noticing is fine. But what you’re saying? It’s disrespectful to me and Pepe.”
Victor chuckled, taking the last sip from his glass and crossing his arms, his shirt tightening slightly as if he thought it might change her mind. But this girl was loyal, so deeply in love with Pepe that she didn’t even see anyone else.
“You can’t tell me you’ve never thought about it. A girl like you could have anyone she wants. Why settle?”
“I told you already, Victor. I’m with Pepe, and I’m happy. I don’t need to ‘think about it.’ You’re crossing the line,” she responded firmly, finding a confidence she rarely displayed.
“Crossing the line? Sounds about right.”
An arm slid around her shoulders, and the unmistakable scent of Pepe filled her senses, like the hug she desperately needed in that moment. The Spaniard’s height towered over her, shielding her from the man behind her. Isabella, reassured by the sight, returned to chatting with her own boyfriend.
The Frenchman, noticing Pepe’s usual playful smile had shifted to something far less jovial, straightened up, folding his arms across his chest.
“Hey, Pepe! Relax, man, we were just talking,” Victor said with a laugh.
But Pepe’s thumb gently stroked the skin above her collarbone as he held her close, his dark eyes fixed on the older and supposedly wiser man.
“Compliments are fine. Pushing your luck isn’t. You should know better, mate.”
Pepe’s voice was calm—he wasn’t angry, just irritated by the unexpected behavior of his colleague.
“Alright, no need to get worked up. Just having a friendly chat.”
The Spaniard stepped closer to Victor, still holding her protectively, making sure the Frenchman could hear him loud and clear.
“Yeah, well, ‘friendly’ stops when she’s uncomfortable. And judging by the look on her face, you crossed that line a while ago.”
Pepe had never been possessive or jealous, and considering his nature, he likely never would be. But when it came to showing her how much she meant to him and protecting her, he didn’t hesitate.
“Alright, no harm done, right?” Victor backed off, his retreat followed by Pepe’s steady, watchful gaze.
She let out a shaky breath, her hands still trembling from the fear that Pepe might think she had done something wrong. She turned to face him, his hands resting on her shoulders as he bent slightly to look her in the eye.
“You okay?”
She nodded, searching his expression for any sign of anger, but finding none.
“Hey, don’t look so shaken up,” he reassured her, though she couldn’t help but worry about the fact that he and Victor might have to race together again the following year. She felt she’d created an awkward situation that had dragged Pepe into it as well.
“I’m sorry, Pepe. I didn’t know what to say at first, and he just kept pushing… I should’ve been firmer. I…” Her mind raced with fears that Victor might have misinterpreted her earlier interaction with the Estonian from Hitech GP as some sort of invitation, but she’d been completely misunderstood.
“You didn’t do anything wrong. He’s the one who crossed the line, not you,” Pepe assured her, pressing a kiss to her forehead and holding her close as he ran his fingers through her hair. “I know what’s bothering your silly, brilliant brain,” he teased gently.
“I’m not mad, and I never will be,” he reassured her again.
He’d spend his whole life protecting her, whether she needed it or not—because he loved her so deeply that he was entirely captivated by her.
-two days left until christmas (I'm so happyyy), hope you like it🍀

Price Range: AED 1,500 to AED 3,000 per person.
What’s Included in a Desert Safari?
Depending on the type of safari you book, here's what you can generally expect:
Dune Bashing: A thrilling ride through the desert dunes in a 4x4 vehicle driven by an experienced driver. This is often the highlight of the safari.
Camel Ride: A traditional experience that takes you across the sand dunes on the "ships of the desert."
Cultural Entertainment: Belly dancing, Tanoura dance performances, and sometimes even fire shows. Some safaris also offer henna painting and traditional Arabic dress photo ops.
BBQ Dinner: A buffet-style meal with a mix of Middle Eastern dishes, often served in a Bedouin-style camp.
Sandboarding: Ride a sandboard down the dunes for an adrenaline rush.
Photography Opportunities: Sunset and desert landscape photography is a must, with many safaris offering professional photoshoots for an additional charge.
Factors Affecting the Price of Desert Safaris
Several factors determine the price of a desert safari:
Time of Year: Prices tend to be higher during peak tourist seasons (October to April) when demand is at its peak.
Group Size: Private and small group safaris tend to cost more than larger group tours.
Inclusions: The more luxurious the experience (e.g., fine dining, premium vehicles), the higher the cost.
Location: Some companies offer safaris in different areas of the desert, with more exclusive locations commanding higher prices.
Tips for Booking a Desert Safari
Book in Advance: Desert safaris can get fully booked, especially during peak tourist seasons. It’s best to book in advance to secure your spot.
Choose the Right Experience: Decide whether you want a quick morning experience or a full evening adventure. Luxury options can offer a more comfortable ride, while standard experiences can still be thrilling.
Prepare for the Weather: The desert can get extremely hot during the day and quite cold in the evening. Dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, and bring sunscreen and sunglasses.
Check Reviews: Look for reviews and recommendations from other travelers to ensure you’re booking with a reputable company.
Conclusion
A Desert Safari in Dubai is a truly unforgettable experience, offering a blend of adventure, culture, and relaxation. Whether you opt for a budget-friendly ride or indulge in a luxury experience, the desert safari provides a unique way to explore the natural beauty and rich traditions of the UAE. With a range of prices to suit different preferences, you can easily find a safari that fits your budget and desired experience level.
