ARK Harpy AU but it's with prehistoric theropods [and some prehistoric birds and ARK creatures if they're close to what we want] :)

Me and my friend are working on it. Most of the characters have been worked out, and it's mostly just a chill slice-of-life au full of peace and love, but it's been such a fun thing to work on. I'll share sketches when I can :3

Current Characters with Current Assigned Creature Species:

Sir Edmund Rockwell - Microraptor [we thought it would be extremely funny, plus now he's quite small; and me and my friend headcanon that he loved birds and would have loved tamed Microraptors]

Helena Walker - Argentavis [because she was gifted one from Rockwell in the game, so it makes sense. She was originally gonna be an Archaeopteryx, but we decided to change it because her interactions with specific characters would have been made better with this bigger sized creature]

Gaius Marcellus Nerva - Yutyrannus [for obvious reasons, I'm sure. Plus it gives a cute, big size difference between him and Rockwell <3. And I headcanon him to really like Yutyrannus. Plus it's relevant to his backstory in this AU.]

MeiYin Li - Qianzhousaurus [not an ARK creature, I know, but it suits better than our original idea with her being a Utahraptor [which was for a Wuzui reference]. I just could not see her as a Utahraptor, so I felt that a different theropod would be better. We're gonna use more region specific creatures with future characters, because the research is fun :3]

Diana Altaras - Featherlight [cute size difference with her wives [epic polycule with MeiYin and Helena] and it makes sense for her, being from Aberration and all. Subject to change, though. Plus she'd be a great help for when our lovely, lovely feathered friends go there [which is under the Island. They are not on ARKs, but something is going to force our beloveds into a cave system which will lead to them finding the Aberrant zone. Though, this, too, is subject to change.]]

thinking about dinomas instead of the many other things i need to do

Akari the T-rex, and her three Pteranodon siblings, Dawn, Barry, and Lucas, love going on the Dinosaur train pretty much every day.

Ingo and Emmet basically run a sort of... Sociology/physiology class, where the kiddos observe different dinosaurs and try to figure out why/how they do things ("i have a hypothesis!" as Buddy says in the show)

Ingo and Emmet have friends! like Skyla the microraptor, or Elesa the Dromiceiomimus!

pretty much everyone knows about Ingo and Emmet and thier love for battles. there are specific cars on the train to house small ones, but mostly its just done near the Train station. many dinosaurs try to test their strength against the twins.

Troodons are verrry smart! so once Ingo and Emmet meet a species they've never met before, and battle them, they immediately try to figure out an effective way to take them down (again, these are all friendly battles. its enrichment, if you will)

basically Ingo and Emmet can tag team pretty much anyone. if they've met the same species before.

this is getting long so more post eeby under the cut

so, the Dino train can travel thorough time, but there are some places, if the gate is not big enough, the the train cannot go through

that, however, does not mean a dinosaur cant go through =]

so basically Ingo doesn't remember how to leave the timezone he fell in (somewhere in the Pleistocene period) and Emmet cant get there bc the time tunnels (apparently that's what they are called in the show) are too small.

pearl clan, a group of Scimitar Cat (kinda like the saber tooth/Smilodon but their teeth are Much smaller.) take Ingo in after their Lady Sneasler carries him over

no one really knows what the heck ingo is, but they let him be warden of Sneasler. both clans are actually mammals in this one, with diamond clan being Beringian lions, (who, fun fact, might have been completely maneless! which is confusing considering the cold climate, but they might have been completely covered in thick fur...)

ingo chills there for a long while, until suddenly, out of the tiny time Tunnels (or space time distortions, as the Clans call them) a T-Rex appears. the group of Tigers called the Galaxy Team take her in and they occasionally meet up with the other clans.

a few days after Akari lands in the future (ha!) a bolt hits the nobles and they go into a frenzy. Akari is sent to take care of it.

the nobles are!

Kleavor- giant beaver (cut down trees) (they were the size of bears today!)

Lilligant- Scrophulariaceae (its a flower. its kinda sentient. don't ask.)

Arcanine- Dire wolf (but a big one. for context- Dire wolves are around the same size as a yukon wolf, which is 85 cm (~2.8 ft) tall.)

Electrode- a rock. (it'd be funny)

Avalugg- the ever approaching glacial movements. (melts and gives fresh water- that's why its a noble)

and the ride pokemon just to cover all basses:

Wyrdeer- caribou

Ursaluna- giant short-faced bear (VERY big. one and a half times the size of a grizzly bear. which is. Big.)

Basculegion- Quinkana (a crocodylian! big guys!! in the time period they are in, around 6 m (20 ft) long!! there is even some debate of them being 9 m long!!)

Sneasler- giant ground sloth (up to 3 meters long!)

Braviary- Haast's eagle (one of the larges known true raptors- but with a strangle small wingspan for its size- possibly up to 3 m)

i am well aware these guys would not live in the same area btw- but im talking about a universe with dinosaurs that built a time traveling train and magic- so...

anyway, eventually Akari and Ingo meet, and both are like "i have seen you before!!" but other than that vague feeling they don't really remember. she and Ingo talk a lot, and eventually come to the realization that the space time distortions (time tunnels) could lead them home.

Ingo instinctively knows that they should Not just. walk in one, and instead they chip away the the surrounding rock of one until ingo feels its Just the right size. for what, he isn't sure. he does think that there should be some shiny metal things coming out of it... but he doesn't know where to get that kind of material, so he doesn't bother with it.

one night, they are woken up by a sheer whistle, and then a horrible crash. Ingo rushes out to the Time tunnel to see a train completely derailed in front of it, tipped over onto its side.

a white Troodon stumbles out of it.

Muppet The Lost World - My Ideas For An Adaptation

A muppet adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyale’s novel, The Lost World would be awesome to me as both a paleo fan and Muppet fan.

For that concept I’d say reuse elements from the cancelled ‘The Natural History Project’: https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/The_Natural_History_Project, and possibly the classic show, Dinosaurs. Extra points if they were to 1) use dinosaurs that were actually native to South America in the late Cretaceous period as the ones that make an appearance in the story. Maybe have a few less popular/well known ones thrown in? 2) it’d be great if they get real creative and colourful with the designs based on the new waves of paleo art, discoveries and mindset of the present. Heck, I wouldn’t be against a blend of a retro vibe to it, say, the 80s - 2000’s? I mean, for example, take a loot at these.

The opening number has an eerie sort of vibe w/ a heavy mysterious aura. Sung by people and animals that live down at the bottom of the plateau/in the area. Telling of the strange noises and shapes they faintly see up there through the mist and fog. Going something like this:

“🎶 All those who go, up on that plateau; death is their fate as such ancient dangers await; a land unchanged and secrets untold from the time of old; great adventures unfurled in this mysterious Lost World. 🎶”.

Now for the casting, I say Miss Piggy as Professor Challenger. In the novel the man is brash, loud and a boxer type. That’s exactly who she is and easily fit into the role.... other than the detail of his great dislike of the press. Piggy is all for showing off. As a change to the story, maybe have it that her dislike of the press is because they printed an image on the news of herself when she had a bad hair day and has since resented them. Or that the laughter, doubt and disbelief of her recent South American expedition has left her extremely jilted and humiliated. Among the crowd are Statler and Waldorf who heckle her. Though deep down she craves for that attention again, but without a good amount of proof and witnesses to back up her claims it seems fruitless. As well as the reputation of her temperament scaring off potential joiners of her travels.

As for Kermit’s role, I’d cast him as Summerlee, a doubter and estranged colleague of Challenger. A rift formed and they split.

Other muppets on the trip would be Gonzo, an publisher/editor-in-chief of the Daily Gazette (re-named Gonzotte). He doesn’t like the stuffiness of the office so he goes to see Challenger to try and get a scoop on her recent expedition to South America, which is clouded with controversy as her claims are unbelievable. Another employee, Edward Malone (the only human for the journey) tags along seeking a dangerous assignment to impress the woman he loves, who wishes for a brave man. At the plateau, as a joke/gag for Gonzo is his sudden interest in one of the feathered dromeosaurs, say a Archaeopteryx or a Microraptor (or other). Be his equivalent to a man having the hots for a cave woman.

Sam Eagle is there as Lord John Roxton.

For their meal that gets stolen by the flying reptile, a pterosaur, it‘d be the same one they bring back to London at the end. Here they meet the little pterosaur when they make it up to the plateau recognizing them as the one that took their meal. They decide to stick around with the group and is later convinced to return to London with them. Promising of stardom and fame. Eventually though, she starts to get homesick and not really liking their cage, so the group, Summerlee, Gonzo and Edward and after some convincing, Challenger too, release her and she flies off. To return to her home, The Lost World.

As a nod to the first film adaptation in 1925, the bad guy is a large sauropod, Goliath. He is a bully to the other dinosaurs and prehistoric animals on the plateau, both herbivore and carnivore alike, because of his great size. It intimidating all the predators and makes them thinks twice about putting him on their menu list. Going as far as to claim that the lost world as his and his alone. He doesn’t like the intruders one bit and the guns they brought as it shifts the tides on his power and reign over everyone on the plateau. His demise is his own great size and mass as he falls to their death as the edge crumbles beneath his feet.

Now, this is about all I got on the matter for the time being. Feel free to critique this and what-not. I’m thinking that later on I’ll make some fan art to illustrate this idea of mine. Probably make changes too in later drafts. Later!

yesssssss my utahraptor propoganda is spreading 😌😌 bear-birbs my beloved. im hoping to create even more converts through our dino cowboy au with boga<3

i don't know that i can pick favorites outside of my beefy boys and girls though. there's just so many good ones. like the entire rest of the dromaeosaurids--especially microraptors, did you know that we know they had iridescent black feathers like ravens do? ankylosaurs. sauropods (even if their sizes make me very uncomfy lmao). ornithomimosaurs are kind of hilariously silly looking, at least to me. pachycephalosaurus is also a fantastic little guy. evolution really went off with the dinos, man.

as far as the non-dino prehistoric life, i really love some of the very early pterosaurs, im highly amused how things keep evolving into fake crabs, i have SO MANY feelings about thylacines (not prehistoric but extinct nonetheless), and i think plesiosaurs are really neat. love what they've got going on aesthetically. very loch ness monster chic.

the subject of small talk came up in a server so i'm dropping the only question that matters:

my besties are Utahraptor for small carnivore, Spinosaurus for large carnivore, Pachycephelosaurus for small herbivore, and Iguanadon for large herbivore
