Welcome back! It’s so good to see your blog up again, and thank you for your hard work regarding the masterlist of your writing! I saw the Red Velvet prompts and I knew I had to ask for one. Is it possible to get either 19. “I see my reflection in your eyes” and/or 22. “"In a world with you, everything in beautiful." with Michikatsu and his beloved? Maybe he hasn’t seen them in a while and finally has the chance to talk about his feelings/confess to them! Thank you so much! ❤️

"I see my reflection in your eyes / In a world with you, everything is beautiful" ― Michikatsu Tsugikuni [Prompts #19 & #22]
Tumblr media
The light of the moon would have to be enough for now.
Michikatsu was silent, stilling even his breathing as he stared down at the sleeping figure in front of him. The wind was cold and unforgiving, and yet the shoji that led out to the engawa had been left wide open, as his lover had been awaiting his return that night. Their health was important to him, and yet he found himself faltering when closing it due to the way the moon added a subtle glow to their skin.
To keep them safe from the chill, he had shed his own haori and placed it atop the futon, never allowing their figure from his peripheral as he went about getting ready to sleep for the first time in days. His sword was set beside the mattress, and he sat beside them as he used a comb to untangle his hair gently, starting from the very tips to eventually make it up to his scalp. If he ever came home at a reasonable time, he would get his lover to brush his hair out for him. They were more gentle than him, and the feeling of their fingers across his scalp easily lulled him to sleep.
He hated waking them up, no matter how often they would say that they didn’t mind it. (Y/n) was an important person in his life; far more important than what he wanted. It was one thing that they disagreed on, but Michikatsu was thankful that his lover was understanding enough to listen to him.
He was so busy that sharing a bed with them became a privilege instead of a habit. They looked peaceful, and Michikatsu took great care into being as fluid as possible as he slid under the blankets with them, brushing their hair from their face and sliding an arm protectively over their middle. For what seemed like hours, he gazed at his lover, burning their features deep into his brain, as if to remember them on the next long journey took.
Michikatsu felt his breathing hitch as they shuffled beside him, sleepy eyes opening to meet his.
As (Y/n) gazed upon his face, they smiled, lips turning up at the corners. It wasn’t every day that they would get the opportunity to see him right after he came home, so moments like these were ones they would cherish.
“Sorry,” Michikatsu whispered quickly, “You can go back to sleep. I didn’t mean to wake you up.” (Y/n) merely shook their head, a single strand of hair falling across their face in the process. Their lover quickly reached out to brush it out of their eyes, callused hands gentle and warm.
“I never get to see you anymore. Let me treasure this one moment, okay? I missed you.” Michikatsu couldn’t reject his lover’s offer, nodding and sinking further under the futon.
“Sorry…”
“Don’t apologise. It’s nothing you can decide for yourself, I know.”
(Y/n) went quiet, and they stayed like that for a long while. Perhaps hours, even. Several times, (Y/n)’s eyelids fluttered shut momentarily, and Michikatsu almost assumed that they had fallen back asleep. These moments were brief, and ended as soon as his lover opened their eyes again, still full of love and warmth. The love he missed every day that he was away, and the love he wished to protect with every fibre of his being.
"Michikatsu." The whisper was soft, near silent, coming from his lover's lips, "You know, you are a lot easier to read then when we first met. I see my reflection in your eyes." The Pillar hummed a gentle melody in response, not wanting them to know the warmth that spilled into his chest at such affectionate words. It was nearing sunrise, if the paling sky just at the horizon had anything to say for it. Neither had slept a wink since Michikatsu had gotten home, yet the Moon Pillar found himself not minding the exhaustion that crept into his bones.
Their face was illuminated in the dull light of the new day, no less beautiful than when they slept blissfully beside him. Michikatsu allowed himself the privilege of gazing at them for longer than necessary, parting his lips as if to say something.
"I'm glad," they mumbled, nuzzling into their pillow carefully, "that you chose me. That I get to spend every fleeting moment with you, you know? My life wouldn't quite be the same without it."
"(Y/n)..."
A single hand stretched out to clasp around another, smaller than itself. (Y/n) smiled, squeezing Michikatsu's fingers between theirs to the best of their ability. It was then that Michikatsu finally found his words, a rumbling hum that challenged the most intense thunder.
"In a world with you, everything is beautiful."
