My good friend Casey is really going through it guys. She'd been caring for her autistic brother for years, despite that he's often violent towards her. Her mother has offered no sympathy or support and she's finally leaving. The problem is that she's amassed a lot of anime collectibles and complex cosplays that need to be stored, as well as everyday items and furniture she'll have to take with her. While she and her fiance' Stephanie will have a place to stay, they need some help in renting a moving truck and a storage unit for their belongings. If anyone is inclined to help a sweet pair of ladies get their feet under them, it would mean the world to me (and to them!)

Insurance firm joins call for US to lead global vaccination effort “The US must act now to leverage rapidly increasing US domestic vaccine production, export ever-larger volumes of our surplus supplies, and go to work on the massive technical and logistical challenges to vaccine development on a global scale,” the letter said. The group also expressed opposition to the intellectual property waiver being promoted by the World Trade Organization, saying the move “would make little difference and could do harm” by not considering the steps necessary for safely manufacturing the vaccines. The letter, initiated by C.V. Starr & Co. chairman and chief executive officer Maurice R. Greenberg, noted that the world has come to rely on American leadership at a time of great strife. “The ability of our government, working in tandem with the private sector, to deliver innovative solutions that save lives and restore peace and stability is the very foundation of US soft power,” the letter said. “Today, we have a generational opportunity to mobilize vaccine efforts around the world. Our friends and allies will not forget easily if we sit on surplus stockpiles of the most proven vaccines as their citizens suffer and die.” Among the letter’s signatories are: Ken Langone, chairman of the board of trustees of NYU Langone Health, William Cohen, former secretary of the US Department of Defense, Noel V. Lateef, president and CEO of Foreign Policy Association, Carla A. Hills, former US trade representative, John D. Negroponte, first director of National Intelligence, John F. Maisto, former ambassador to Venezuela and Nicaragua. Also, Alexander Feldman, CEO of US ASEAN Business Council, Suzanne Clarke, president and CEO of US Chamber of Commerce, Michelle McMurray-Heath, president and CEO of Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), Adam S. habsfan98 2016-2017 Montreal Canadiens Regular 2016-2017 season Analysis and Opinions
Today marks the end 2016-2017 NHL regular season. On Wednesday nest week, the NHL post season begins with many surprise teams, and some constant regulars that look to make a deep run to the Stanley cup final this year.
This season has been nothing short of a mess of amazing performances by young individual players, that captivated the NHL and its fans. While on the flip side, we saw teams that we expect to be playing post season hockey, or at least meaningful hockey down the stretch; fail to reach those predications.
So, I want to talk about what I saw, read, and earn about this season.
  The Subban/Weber trade paid off
We start in the off season. On a remarkable day in June. I had returned home from a trip to Jamaica, only to look at my phone once that airport wifi was fully connected and see that my favorite player, and the star defensemen for the Montreal Canadiens; PK Subban was trade to the Nashville Predators. In exchange the Canadiens received Shea Weber; their captain, top defensemen, and franchise player.
Suffice to say. Me and thousands of other Canadiens fans were outraged. Trading the exciting and offensively gifted Subban, for the stud and shut down veteran Weber was a bold and fan angering move.
It was clear that after the disaster that was the 2015-2016, changes need to be made in Montreal. The team fell apart when they lost Price for that season. While fans blamed the coaching of Micheal Therrien, and the lack of moves from Marc Bergevin left fan in habs nation frustrated and demanding for someone’s head.
So, a change did come. Just before PK Subbans eight year $72 million contract, no-trade clause was to start on free agency day. He was traded for Weber.
And so, the 2016-2017 began, with mixed emotions for the fans of both franchise. Now that the season is over, we can see that trade, was successful for both teams.
Weber is his first season with the habs, leads all defensemen on the team in goals, and points (17 G, 42 P). Out of that 12 of those goals were on the powerplay. Weber was more than just an efficient scorer. His shut down defensive play allow for a better coverage for forwards that helped out the habs number one goal Carey Price.
On the flip side PK Subban had a respectable first season in Smashville. Although he lost a good chuck of time this season with the Preds due to a lower back injury. Subban finished second in team scoring for defensemen (10 G, 40 P). His offensive talents were much apricated in Nashville, which seemed to pull it together after a rocky first half of the season.
Now both teams are in the post season. The Canadiens play the Rangers in the First round, while the Predators prepare to battle the Blackhawks. Each of these teams are about to test out, whether this trade will benefit for this year’s post-seasons.
  Max Pacioretty Saved the season.
Max Pacioretty did not have a great start to this season.
In fact, it started even before, the NHL regular season began for Patches. During the NHL’s World Cup of Hockey. The American star forward was criticized for his ‘lackluster’ play, by then head coach John Tortoella.
After a bad outing this Team USA, seemed to follow the Captain of the habs into the regular season. The Canadiens had another historic start to the season; but the captain was not very involved. By the end, October, and early November Pacioretty only hand four goals to his name, and the denied annoyance of then head coach Michel Therrien.
That slump would soon come to an end. When Max Pacioretty went on a scoring spree. While Carey Price started to slump. And the team was losing it offensive punch. Patches took over, returning to his scoring touch.
It turns out that Pacioretty was playing with a foot injury during that early slump. Once the injury was healed, and the pain was eliminated. Patches was back to his scoring self, just in the nick of time.
Mac Pacioretty finished the season once again as the habs leading scorer, with 35 goals and 67 points this season.
Alexander Radulov proves the doubters wrong
I won’t lie. When I heard that Radulov wanted to make a NL returned. I didn’t think it would work out anywhere for him. He was seen as player with too much baggage; a history of immaturity left a bad taste in the mouth of NHL GM’s after his time in Nashville, ended with him being suspended from the team during the playoffs; then leaving the team to go play in the KHL.
So, when the Canadiens, who made a major trade for Weber, and not for any real offensive talent, signed Radulov for one year at $5.75 million dollars. My thoughts went to the other players that the habs sign for a year that never worked out, (Alexander Semin and Jiri Sekac).
Yet. With 18 goals, and 54 points this season; and a hard work ethic on the ice. Radulov proved me, the experts, and the fans wrong. He was a fully mature and capable offensive threat for the Canadeins that lacked the offensive punch.
Now will see what he capable of in the post season.
Au Revoir Micheal Therrien! Bonjour Claude Julien… Again.
When Micheal Therrien wasn’t fired last season after the historically bad season in Montreal. Which say a record breaking start to that season, end with the habs finishing out of the playoffs and sixth in the division.
It was collapse on epic proportions, one that was mainly blamed on the loss of MVP goalie Carey Price, and other numerous long term injuries that season. The fans choose to blame Therrien and Bergevin, for the team’s poor play. While Therrien choose to focus its attention and frustration one particular player, PK Subban for the team’s awful collapse as well. And while Therrien spent much of the season, saying that the relationship between him and PK was fine. The Subban/Weber trade proved that it wasn’t.
So, with the trade of a fan favorite player, that clearly, he saw was the next biggest flaw with the Canadiens other than loss of Price remedied with the acquisition of Weber. Therrien set out to prove that he could coach the team back to the top.
And he did.
The Canadiens has another great start to the season, With Price, Weber, and Radulov even, playing great under the coach’s systems. Yet, just like last season; the wheels started to fall off. The habs had a subpar January, and by February the team was in danger of collapsing once again. Even with Price the team was playing very poor hockey.
The straw that broke the camel’s back, was a game against the habs hated rivals the Boston Bruins. Which ended with a 0-4 Bruins shootout. Days later on Valentine’s day, Therrien was fired, and replaced by former Bruins bench boss Claude Julien.
And with the re-hiring of Julien the Habs would come back to life. Although the offense seemed still flawed. Julien’s defensive system, was much better improvement for the habs, allowing for Price to play once again to at a MPV level.
Many wonders had the Marc Bergevin relived Therrien last season, could it have been saved? Could Subban still be a Canadiens, and not a Predator? Sadly, we will never get answer to those questions.
But we as, habs fans can take solace in knowing that some with an experience in winning the Stanley cup; is behind the bench for this year’s playoffs.
My Three Stars for the season:
 GP - Games Played
G – Goals
A - Assists
P - Total Points
☆ Max Pacioretty (GP 81, 35 G, 32 A, for 67 P) Finished as the habs top score once again with another 60+ point season. His consistence for the habs has shown that he is a capable Captain for the storied Montreal Canadiens. On a side note: Max Pacioretty has now had, five strait 30+ goals seasons (This is not counting lockout-shortned 2012-2013 season).
☆ ☆ Shea Weber (78 GP, 17 G, 25 A, 42 P) It would be a lie to say that Shea Weber has a very quiet, yet amazing year for the Canadiens. His first regular season with the habs saw his impressive shut-down defensive play prove pivotal to the habs winning the division this year. His 12 power play goals, also showed off his offensive skills with a booming slap shot.
☆ ☆ ☆ Paul Byron (81 GP, 22 G, 21 A, 43 P) At 5’9” and a little around 160 lb. Byron was picked up last season on waivers from the Flames. Then given a two-year contract extension by the habs. The small forward, played in a big way with his explosive skating, soft hands and great shot. Byron proved to be an invaluable piece to the habs this season, and we can only hope for more during the post season.
(All of this is based on my observations during the season, and information that I found through the internet. If you have your own opinions about the season, don’t be afraid to tell me about them. If you have other highlights that you felt were important this season, right about them if your reblog this post.)

august: week four
21: i woke up at 8:30 am and then did 30 minutes of hiit and it killed me LOL. my body felt up for it though and there was a bunch of sweating. i showered and then ate breakfast and woke kevin up. we both wfh’d today because we wanted to see the eclipse together :) plus, dave would be out until wednesday. i ordered my nike free tr7s from zappos and then i did some internet errands and started to go over some training stuff for tomorrow. x_x; it was a really chill day because everyone was too preoccupied with the solar eclipse haha. i got off a really short stand up and then kevin and i brought our leftovers outside to eat. we had the lobster and garlic bread for lunch outside in the courtyard while watching the eclipse. it was nice :) then we cleaned up and went back in. i think i was mainly distracted when i got back. i started feeling pretty crappy in the stomach area and i felt nauseous after a while too. ugh, these period symptoms got me going crazy this week. i laid down for a while and did my best to get through a call that phil led, which wasn’t too bad. then i did some window shopping on reformation clothing’s website and kevin helped me decide against buying a new dress LOL.
i had to try on my dress with my heels to restrain myself from buying another dress. when i felt a bit better, i worked out my legs and kevin went to cook. i showered and then watched agents of shield while kevin did his thang in the kitchen. he made taiwanese beef noodle soup because i have been craving it and i needed some tender lovin’ from soups for my stomach. i ate a lot today tbh, but i think i worked out enough to balance out the calories. i didn’t feel like i overate though? lol. idk. we watched more agents of shield and then i got a really bad tension headache. i laid there while watching another episode before calling it quits and brushing my teeth and washing the dishes. i hopped into bed and just ko’d because my head really hurt. i went to sleep at around 12:30 am.
22: i woke up at 8 am and just went on instagram to get to the eggie clothing launch. i was upset to find out that the one shirt i really wanted was sold out of smalls already :( so i decided not to get anything. lol this choice haunted me for the rest of the morning and afternoon T_T i should have gotten an xsmall. anyway, i spent 20 minutes on that in the morning and then did a low impact workout so i don’t kill my body from doing too many hiit workouts. then i showered, ate breakfast, and kevin left for work and then i hopped on the first call of the day. it was just me and a client and it went really well. she was super understanding! then i did some emailing and more regretting LOL. ugh, i need that black blazer and eggie tee and the try again tee in blush -- i guess i have to wait now. i also made another uniqlo order because the jeans i wanted were on sale and i tossed in 2 mock neck ribbed crops tops in there for only $3.80 each ;D lol sigh.
my second meeting of the day was rescheduled for tomorrow so i took this time to reassess my work stuff and do some internet errands. i watched agents of shield while working and then hopped on the third call of the day and right after, went on stand up that lasted an hour... haha... i continued watching agents of shield and then did a 40 minute back / arm workout. i showered and then chilled for the rest of the evening. it’s nice getting things done early. kevin came back from climbing, i washed the dishes, and he made dan dan noodles. we watched more agents of shield and then he went to game and i watched another episode. lol, i feel like i can’t trust anyone in that show anymore T_T i called it a night at 11 pm. i brushed my teeth and ko’d in bed at around 11:30 am. zzzz.
23: i woke up pretty energized but i checked my phone and happened to check my chase account and i got charged a service fee -__-” so i had to deal with that later on in the morning. first thing’s first though -- i did a kickboxing workout, showered, and ate breakfast. then i hopped on the train and the man sitting next to me reeked of smoke and body odor T____T it was the most unpleasant train ride to work that i’ve ever experienced... i got to work at around 9:30 am and then went into a telephone booth to figure out this darn chase thing. the customer representative was not helpful at all so i sent chase a secure message asking for a first time fee waiver. then i talked to dave about the eclipse and started prepping for my prep call with phil, ahha. my call went really well. we got a lot of work done and i feel more confident of doing training on my own now. well, we only got through one section of it but we’ll schedule more time later.
it was a very quiet day but i bumped into cait in the kitchen and talked with her for a bit. joe came in the afternoon and we talked for a bit. we got on stand up and after that, i finished my work (had to erase some templates to make more space) and then packed up and walked to kevin. we met on the bridge and walked to south station and went home. we had a small argument about accessing saving account money with atm cards and/or debit cards. i got mad because i hate it when he’s right because he thinks he’s right all the time. -__-” we both turned out to be right and kevin kept teasing me which made me even angrier. so we talked about it when we got home and then i took like an hour nap in the bed with kevin while he read and/or gamed. then he went for a run and i did my oblique workout. i showered first and then chilled for the rest of the day. kevin made eggs and chives and this new green bean recipe for dinner. we watched agents of shield and then kevin went to game and i watched a bit more before going to sleep. zzzz. it was nice coming home early and just cuddling with kevin (:
24: this was the first time in a while where i turned off my alarm and ko’d right away. luckily, i only woke up 15 minutes later and then i got up and did my low-impact workout for the morning. i took my time getting to work resulting in me getting there later than usual, but i let dave know and i skyped him on the train to ask for more work to do. i started working on a journey map and creating a few icons :) i changed into glasses again today to gauge how comfortable my eyes are with the computer again and wearing them constantly. my prescription is high so i’m still getting used to it. dave had to step out for a bit and then i bumped into a bug that byron had to fix himself so i tried walking to uniqlo with my glasses during this “break” but walked back because my eyes felt really tired and it was too bright outside with too many moving people.... oh, also i felt bad for using about an hour’s worth of work time to walk there while dave was dealing with something.
so i walked back and then worked on the map some more. byron fixed it fairly quickly! dave got back before 4 pm so it’s a good thing i didn’t leave for long. my eyes felt tired so i took my glasses off for a bit and rested them. i’ll walk to uniqlo after work and take my time; kevin won’t be back until 8 pm because he’s climbing today so i’ll have enough time to get my stuff, go back home, exercise, and get the chicken thighs in the oven. ;D there was only one hour left of work and i just had questions for dave so i did internet errands while dave finished a call. i talked with dave, made some changes, and then i was basically done for the day. i walked over to faneuil hall by memory and without my gps because my phone was at like 10% when i left the office. i picked up my order and tried on the items in the changing room. i took a while because i needed opinions on whether to keep the two shirts i got as well as the boyfriend slim fit jeans i got from uniqlo. i got two ‘yes’es from michelle and vivian so then i walked to downtown crossing and commuted home. i got back at like 6:40 pm.
i got my shipping box for my macbook pro trade-in as well as my new nike free tr 7s; tbh, i was kind of underwhelmed. :( i think it’s because there were too many color ways that were pretty nice but none that i loved. i went with the black / lava glow / anthracite color way, which i think is the nicest one that isn’t too girly. anyway, i was a bit rushed because i opened my packages, put my macbook in the box, tried on my shoes, ate a snack because i was pretty hungry, seasoned and put the chicken thighs into the oven, washed rice (and apparently forgot to hit cook Dx), put away and washed the dishes, and clean up all the boxes we have in the apartment. we have a ton of boxes in our apartment right now and we haven’t even begun moving LOL.
well, i managed that and then kevin got back home from climbing, showered, and i went straight into doing a free weight butt workout, which i love! it burns so good lolol. then i showered while the rice actually cooked and kevin and i ate dinner while watching agents of shield. he went to game and i continued watching. i stayed up until 1 am for some reason -- it felt like a weekend. i ended up going to bed at the same time as kevin, which happens rarely. :P he wants to do other things instead of just watching tv together so we’re gonna brainstorm what we can do. i think it’d be fun to game with each other, but also scary territory because most of the time, i’m a sore loser @_@; we’ll see!
25: it was a nice day to wfh. i woke up pretty sore so i just did some hip hop cardio in the morning. then i ate breakfast and showered. kevin left for work and i did some errands. i re-ordered my new nikes in a 7.5 because the 7s seem a bit too tight. then i started making wireframes for a new feature in ux360 while watching agents of shield! i finished the second season and the next one seems a bit weird... i got on a client call with dave and phil and then worked some more before stand up. i am very happy with my prototype right now and i spent more time adding in more functionality to it in axure (: ahhh, so much fun! after work, i ate a scallion bun as a snack and some chips while watching youtube videos. hm, i think what’s plaguing my mind right now is when eggie is going to restock the items i want LOL. i think i am in a fashion phase right now @_@; i did my workout, kevin got back home, and then we played a trivia game together. then i went to shower while kevin made dinner. we had a really late dinner because we played that game...lol oops. we didn’t watch anything while eating because we were starving. then kevin went on a run and i watched an episode of shield on my ipad before going to sleep... it was a nice start to the week.
26: i woke up at 10 am and just took it easy this morning. kevin and i looked for coop games on steam and i did some internet errands. i ended up watching the rest of the digimon tri series that i forgot to watch. there’s still part 5 that’s not out yet, but now i’m excited. kevin gamed and then we meal planned and went grocery shopping. we stopped at kam man and bj’s and also got my car washed :) lol we’re still noobs at going to car washes. we got back home and then put everything away and started going through the games that kevin bought on steam. we played a lot of overcooked -- we both really liked it. then we started cooking dinner. kevin cooked the ribeye on the cast iron skillet and i made garlic mashed potatoes :) we ate dinner while watching agents of shield and then after digesting, i did my 45 minute workout. kevin tried getting me to play portal knights at like 12 am after he showered but i was so tired and i got grumpy because the set up took so long. i was tired and ko’d before 2 am. x__x; it was a pretty productive day though, and kevin’s idea of playing coop games together seems like it’s going well.
27: i woke up earlier than kevin again to clean the kitchen and bathroom. kevin did wake up earlier today though. we ate breakfast and after i put the fleece blankets in the wash, we went straight to gaming. we started playing the other coop games that kevin purchased yesterday. we gave portal knights another chance but it was meh. out of the ones that we played, we really liked ibb & obb and battleblock theater from this batch. then we went to get our thai massage! the massage was just ok today because a different person massaged me and she was either too gentle or too hard. i did get walked on though :O afterward, i started washing our clothes and then we ate lunch outside. then we continued to play games. i legit started crying while laughing while playing ibb & obb. i’m really bad at jumping but it was so funny. kevin asked what was wrong with me LOL. we stopped gaming at around 6 or 7 pm and kevin cooked off the last piece of steak while i did a 60 minute kickboxing routine. he ate while i worked out and then i went to shower and ate while watching agents of shield. kevin washed the dishes and then watched with me for a bit. i folded the clothes and stuff and then we continued gaming. we ended the night playing overcooked and battleblock theater until 11:30 pm. i went to sleep at like 12:30 am or something because i was still really excited about all the games we played together <3 hehe, it was a good idea to do this. it was a great weekend :)

White House Details Ethics Waivers for Ex-Lobbyists and Corporate Lawyers
The Office of Government Ethics has a rule prohibiting administrators from interacting with their former colleagues in private-sector jobs on policy matters they handled when employed there (in part to avoid conflicts of interest favoring your former employer). Would you seek a waiver from this rule for your chief of staff, and thus allow him to repeatedly engage with editors at his former news organization: (1) yes or (2) no? Why? What are the ethics underlying your decision.
President Trump has given at least 16 White House staff members dispensation to work on policy matters they handled while employed as lobbyists or to interact with their former colleagues in private-sector jobs, according to records released late Wednesday.
The details on these so-called ethics waivers — more than five times the number granted in the first four months of the Obama administration — were made public after an intense dispute between the White House and the Office of Government Ethics, which had been pushing the Trump administration to stop granting such waivers in secret.
The list of waivers includes high-profile names such as Reince Priebus, Mr. Trump’s chief of staff, and Kellyanne Conway, a senior White House adviser. They had to be granted waivers because of their prior work with organizations such as the Republican National Committee, which Mr. Priebus once ran, and because they continue to have contact with those organizations as part of their White House work.
But the waivers granted by the White House are also going to former lobbyists, despite Mr. Trump’s campaign vow to try to reduce the influence of lobbyists in Washington.
Andrew Olmem, who until recently was a Washington-based partner at the law firm Venable L.L.P., is a special assistant to the president for financial policy after he lobbied the federal government on behalf of a number of financial firms, including American Express, MetLife and S&P Global. Mr. Olmem’s waiver allows for him to participate in communications and meetings with former clients involving Puerto Rico’s financial issues, as well as amendments to the Flood Disaster Protection Act and reforming the Financial Stability Oversight Council’s treatment of insurers, the White House said.
A second waiver was given to Michael Catanzaro, who until January was registered as a lobbyist for companies including Devon Energy, an oil and gas company, and Talen Energy, a coal-burning electric utility. Mr. Catanzaro moved from lobbying against Obama-era environmental rules to overseeing the White House office in charge of rolling back the same rules, an activity permitted by his waiver.
Also receiving a waiver was Shahira Knight, who had been a lobbyist for Fidelity Investments and now serves as a special assistant to the president for tax and retirement policy — the same topic she had lobbied on while working for Fidelity, one of the largest retirement-investment companies in the United States.
Five former lawyers and another former employee from Jones Day — the law firm that handled compliance matters and other legal issues for the Trump campaign — also have been given waivers to communicate with the firm. Donald F. McGahn II, the White House counsel, is one of the former Jones Day lawyers covered by that waiver.
The waivers made public Wednesday also appear to retroactively eliminate an apparent ethics problem for Stephen K. Bannon, the president’s chief strategist, who was an executive at Breitbart News. The ethics policy prohibited him from contacting employees at Breitbart for two years on matters he had handled while an executive there, but Mr. Bannon repeatedly engaged in conversations with Breitbart editors, according to a complaint filed by the liberal Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
The waiver, retroactive to Jan. 20, allows White House aides to “participate in communications and meetings with news organizations on matters of broad policy” even if they involve “a former employer or former client.”
A separate waiver, which applies to senior White House employees, allows them to communicate with a range of political organizations — even if they previously worked for them — including Donald J. Trump for President and the Republican Attorneys General Association
Lindsay E. Walters, a White House spokeswoman, said in a statement that the Trump administration had tried, when possible, to urge aides to avoid conflicts and had asked them to not work on topics they once handled in the private sector, instead of granting waivers.
“The White House has voluntarily released the ethics waivers as part of the president’s commitment to the American people to be transparent,” she said.
The documents released Wednesday related only to White House staff, not federal agencies. The agencies may also be giving new political appointees the privilege to participate in policy deliberations that might benefit their former clients or business partners. Details on these waivers will become public in the coming days.
Waivers are intended to bring experienced people with special skills into the government. Both Mr. Catanzaro and Ms. Knight bring prior government experience to their new jobs: Mr. Catanzaro was a senior Senate aide for the committee overseeing environmental policy and Ms. Knight worked for the House Ways and Means Committee on tax policy.
The number of waivers rose during the Obama administration because Mr. Obama imposed new ethics rules, such as a ban on hiring lobbyists, which could be avoided only with a waiver.
With these broad restrictions in place for the first time, the Obama administration issued a relatively small number of waivers. Over Mr. Obama’s eight years in office, about 16 waivers were granted for White House officials and a total of about 70 across the entire federal government. Just three of those waivers for White House staff members came in the first four months of his administration.
In most instances, the officials who received waivers under Mr. Obama argued that the overlap between their government jobs and their previous private-sector work was minor, or that allowing it was in the public interest.
For example, the three waivers issued in the first months of the Obama administration — including one given to Valerie Jarrett, who served as senior adviser to the president — each involved staff members who previously worked for nonprofit groups but who joined the administration working in related policy areas.
Among them was like Jocelyn Frye, who was the director of policy and projects in Michelle Obama’s office of the first lady. Ms. Frye, who had previously served as general counsel at the nonprofit National Partnership for Women Families, worked on similar issues with Ms. Obama.
In an executive order signed in late January establishing his own ethics rules for his political appointees, Mr. Trump adopted, word for word, much of the language in Mr. Obama’s ethics rules, with one important exception: He dropped the broad ban on hiring just-departed lobbyists.
The waivers show that Mr. Trump is also instituting the ethics rules in a very different way. He is allowing former industry lobbyists who worked for for-profit concerns to, in some cases, take up the same topics they had handled in the private sector.
Robert Weissman, president of the liberal nonprofit group Public Citizen, said he believed the waivers issued by Mr. Trump’s White House undermined the purpose of the ethics rules. The rules were written to prevent the government from becoming a revolving door, where industry players can come in and help their former paying clients, he said.
“They are circumventing what they touted as their signature ethics achievement,” Mr. Weissman said. “It’s utterly at odds with candidate Trump’s ‘drain the swamp’ rhetoric and it suggests that the Trump executive order is not worth the paper it is written on.”
