No Surrender (1985) - Peter Smith

It's New Year's Eve in Thatcher's de-industrialising Britain. The scene is set at a seedy bar in Liverpool where a group of Irish Protestant and Irish Catholic pensioners will gather to clash and bash the new year in.

This film is just mad, even though it's humour is the driest of dry delivered in the lowest key way, it's still layering madness on madness for the whole film. Why is Elvis Costello there? who knows. Bleasdale was a hell of a writer though, delivering laughs by the minute, maybe not the feels of some of his best TV work but a fun mad film it is.

We’re sorry to say that Micheal Angelis, formally known as the British narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (season 3-season 16), has passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020. I remember hearing Mr. Angelis’ narration from the New Friends for Thomas DVD. This episode, A Friend In Need, is one of my personal favorites. Because of his energy in tone. I then listen to the rest of his narration and realized that he’s THE longest narrator in the whole series.
