something about hearing “i grew up as a fan” from any prospect never gets old. that’s how you fell in love with hockey? that’s who you cheered for?? and now you’re here on the draft floor after they called your name, and the media swarm you; they’ve plucked you from the crowd for an interview, and the lights are so bright, and they’re throwing up baby photos of you in old jerseys. that’s your team. you chose them — or maybe you inherited them from your family — either way you wore their colours for years and years. and then they chose you. they chose YOU!!! anyway this post is about Michael Hage getting drafted by the Canadiens and dropping this banger:

ALRIGHT TIME FOR A BREAKDOWN

i'm actually....not as shocked as a lot of people are about this roster, and tbh it looks better than last year's team off vibes alone. i think it's a pretty decent team, and there's a lot here that can work in canada's favour. obviously, we're in the group of death this year, so it'll be more difficult to play regardless, but i'm tentatively excited for this group. now, the final team will be determined on what dave cameron (literally my enemy) decides , so i won't get my hopes up too much, but this is pretty standard.

everyone is really upset about sennecke, iginla, yakemchuk, parekh, but tbh this is on par for how hockey canada chooses their teams. it's usually 19 year olds, with only a few underagers, and they placed a lot of emphasis this year on the showcaes in the summer. yakemchuk was pretty bad there, and i think same with parekh. while ignila and sennecke have had good seasons, idk if it's been good enough to knock out anyone here in the top 6. anyone who knows dave cameron coaching knows he LOVES a divide between his top 6 and his bottom 6. unfortunately, i don't see ignila or sennecke grinding it out on the fourth line. i think the bigger snubs are barlow (who was amazing at showcase), and misa, considering the number of other underagers they took.

also another big thing canada looks for is previous international experience. that's why you see wood (i want him fired into the sun), brunicke, and ivankovic here. all have played on u18 or hlinka teams before, and have played, at least to hockey canada, well. it's also why someone like michael hage was snubbed, because he wasn't released for u18s last year by the steel, and therefore, has limited team canada experience.

anyways! now that we all understand hockey canada politics, here's what i expect the final team shall look like
