On Jennifer Hudson's talk show she does a spirit tunnel where her staff flank the walls and sing repurposed songs crafted for the guest/s. While you're supposed to dance (think Soul Train line), many just walk, which I understand if they feel they can't dance. But I say everyone can dance, no one says you have to dance well - just dance. Life is too short and at time oh so rough, why not give yourself the over to a bit of fun?

-Brian Tyree Henry always passes the vibe check. He can currently be seen in Rachel Morrison's THE FIRE INSIDE starring Ryan Destiny. The film is the true story of Olypmpic boxer Claressa "T-Rex" Shields.

In the last two years there have been some solid true story sports filim - from great to good. I, sadly, don't think any of them will become favourites like "Rudy", "Remember the Titans" or "We Are Marshall", but if you want a nice day in watching sports-themed films "The Fire Inside", 'Unstoppable", "Young Woman and the Sea" and 'The Boys in the Boat" make a nice quartet.

-Aaron Pierre - Currently voicing Mufasa in MUFASA: THE LION KING and will soon be seen as Green Lantern in WB/DC's LANTERNS. Pierre will be the first live action John Stewart. You can also watch him in Netflix's REBEL RIDGE, an excellent film about police corruption and forfeiture.

-Jodie Turner-Smith - Can currently be seen on Showtime/Paramount+'s THE AGENCY alongside Michael Fassbender and Richard Gere.

Turner Smith is in the midst of divorce proceedings with ABC's DOCTOR ODYSSEY star Joshua Jackson. They have been at it for a while, but the new wrinkle is that Turner-Smith is requesting spousal support and an increase in child support for their four-year old daughter. In Turner-Smith's initial divorce petition she asked the courts to terminate the rights to either parties demanding support, but since the divorce proceedings have dragged on and her legal costs are mounting, she is now requesting support.

-Cynthia Erivo. Currenty can be seen in WICKED PART 1 which has now hit digital release and has already racked in $70 million dollars.

There are fans who are shipping Cynthia and her WICKED costar Ariana Grande because, why not? Funny to me that there are some people just now finding out that there was a rumour that Cynthia's current partner Lena Waithe left her wife for Cynthia. We're losing recipes!!! All that went on during the Tessa Thompson/Janelle Monae era.

-NOBODY WANTS THIS cast - Adam Brody is the only one committed to the bit. Sadly, Brody and his wife Leighton Meester lost their home in the current wildfires that are raging in Los Angeles.

Gold Stars for the ladies of REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS, especially Dorit; and the ladies of THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT, Teyonah Parris and Olatunde (O-T) Fagbenle of Netflix's NO GOOD DEED who made up for the lackluster participation of Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow, Gwen Stefani because she's Gwen Stefani, Courtney B. Vance, The Propoerty Brothers and Derek Hough because they are having the most fun.

And AGATHA ALL ALONG's Kathryn Hahn dancing to a remixed version of "Ballad of the Witches' Road" from the series.

Some Cherik gold for the fans

I posted this year's ago, but it's time for a reblog throwback especially with how Cherik X-men 97 turned out to be! Magneto and Xavier Bromance!  So here's a vid of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy singing a song that reflects the relationship of Erik and Charles of the X-men.  Michael starts singing "Two Little Boys" a Civil War era song by Theodore F. Morse.  

I think the song fits the relationship well with such lines like "Gaily they played each summer's day warrior's both of course", "when we grow up we'll both be soldiers, and our horses will not be toys.  And I wonder if we'll remember when we were two little boys."  I think that the idea of Charles and Xavier as little boys playing war games and then seeing that come into fruition as "long years passed and war came so fast" is so cool and interesting.  I wonder if the two men do ever look back at those past summer days when their horses were wooden and their weapons were toys.

Kneecap (2024) dir. Rich Peppiatt

Big day for a Uíabú such as myself. This is Fast & Furious to me. This is Trainspotting to me. 

'Kneecap' is more creation myth than biopic and it establishes itself as such with one of the best opening sequences (& best uses of Michael Fassbender) in cinematic history. The story takes off at a sprint and it never slows. Not in story, not in sound, not in laughter, not in frenzied editing, not in sincerity, not in satire. It is what it is and it is it the whole time. The film could've introduced Cù Chulainn as a character or launched the musical trio into space and gotten away with it. But it's surprisingly grounded for how big it swings...

As the film states, The Irish language is like the last Dodo, living behind glass in captivity, and you need to smash the glass and set it free. It's a metaphor used twice to comedic effect, but it's also a thesis, a mission statement, and exactly what the film does. The Irish language gets to live and breathe, as does Belfast itself, less as a vibrant and immutable backdrop to the story and more as an ecosystem. For every thing "wrong" about Belfast, about the way we approach cultural preservation, decolonization, teaching the Irish language itself, there is something "right." 'Kneecap' lets the duality be with all the mundanity and authenticity of every day life because these things that for many people are a passing interest, a historical context, a political notion is the every day for them. 

I knew every song in the film but seeing them be born was engaging and fresh. It's incredible what grounded and sincere performers Mòglaí Bap and Mo Chara are, like when you suspect a professional wrestler has a lot of experience with Shakespeare, and DJ Próvai gives one of the best performances I've ever seen. Every character, big and small, gets to breathe in this film and Simone Kirby in particular is stunningly severe, sad, and soft in her role. 

Above all, it was an absolute fucking delight to hear this much Irish. It's a language that sings and that claps onto you. In any context. In any era. And the more contexts and eras the better.

Do you have voice headcanons and/or claims for your characters?

Alright! This one's gonna be a doozy for ya girl here because it seems like in any AU I put my main OCs in, I have to really make sure that their voices suit how they sound in my head as well as their mannerisms and what languages they use (the language I try to do my best with, but it mainly comes down to the sound of the voice more than anything).  In this case, I think only Feng and Tamara get their usual Voice-Claims which will be listed in this post because they ALWAYS sound a certain way to me that I can never seem to let go of.

Unfortunately, because of my dumb ass messing up the format of this post, I’ll have to put links to video clips or even audio clips instead ^^;; Sorry, everyone!

UUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH- This one gave me a lot of hell.  So, as much as Luka is fluent in Cantonese in this AU, he’s a primarily English speaker with his native language being German, his secondary being French, and him being able to do decent Spanish.  I was also VERY picky about how the voices sounded because Luka, in my mind, sounds a little more higher-pitched and gentle in a way.  

Fun fact: I was originally going to go with Timothée Chalamet because his English and French give me more Luka vibes, but I think it’s mainly because of how much of a hilarious dork the dude is.

I think the only problem I ran into was getting super specific on trying to find Cantonese Opera actors who performed Dan roles, which seemed to leave me with nothing, or just circling around back to Peking Opera or general Chinese Opera as a whole. QQ

Fun Fact: I was originally going to just go with the usual VC I have for him (Aurelio Voltaire), but because of the setting the AU takes please (it being more historical) and given his career as a Chinese Opera performer, I had to really dig for this one.  I would have gone with the famous Mei Lanfang, but it was even more difficult to find good samples for my notes.  That being said, I at least found a pretty good clip of Mei Lanfang both singing and speaking in a Dan role: (X)

Firstly Tom Hardy has been one of my all time faves since about 2005. (Stuart: A Life Backwards is still his greatest performance, but anywho)

Emily Blunt, Melissa McBride, Jessica Chastain, John David Washington, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Matthew Macfadyen, Andrew Scott, Jon Bernthal, Anne-Marie Duff, Dev Patel, Deborah Ann Woll, Colin Farrell, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Gwendoline Christie, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Viola Davis, Travis Fimmel, Heath Ledger, Daniel Kaluuya, Benicio Del Toro, Zhang Ziyi, Terry O’Quinn, Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln, Michelle Williams, Ryan Gosling, Toby Stephens

I will ofc also shoutout Christina Hendricks and Manny Montana. There was some good shitttttt in GG and I'm right. They are both such good listeners. (but I'll ramble about that in a separate ask I have)

Actors from that list I would say are underrated? Melissa McBride 100%. I wish she would be in more projects and that cursed zombie show did not deserve her. She was the reason I stuck around so long. GOD SHE'S AMAZING!

Probably also Terry O'Quinn, his work in LOST is stunning.

In terms of stage work, I've seen Andrew Scott in theatre 5 times, sometimes front row in very small venues where he sat on me and one of the reasons he is SO skilled to me is how his stage work still absolutely sings. He is the best live performance I've ever watched and he just gives so much to the audience, something he clearly does on screen, he's a live-wire isn't he? But he's just - - so unselfish with his performances.

Anne-Marie Duff is similar. (also SO underrated but she mostly does theatre now so less media exposure I guess)

She did my favourite performance of Queen Elizabeth I in The Virgin Queen, a 4 part series on the BBC over here (opposite Tom Hardy as Robert Dudley) She is so talented. So heartfelt and raw. She was the same in the theatre show I saw her in.

All of the actors I have listed here are incredible listeners. There is nothing more cringe than an insular actor who refuses to be changed by their scene partner. I also personally gravitate towards actors who are very in touch with their body in space/have a certain physical free-ness.
