"Section 28, which was introduced by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1988, banned the “promotion of homosexuality” in schools, and remained in place until it was repealed in Scotland in 2000 and England and Wales in 2003.
It was while protesting the draconian law in 1988 (below) that McKellen first came out as gay.
Tumblr media
As Rishi Sunak’s government considers new guidance for schools, which could potentially impose restrictions on transgender and non-binary students who wish to socially transition, McKellen worries that this guidance could echo Section 28.
Asked by Attitude if he feared a return of Section 28 or something similar, the Oscar-winner replied: “If you’d asked me that six hours ago, I’d have said no, I don’t.
“But I talked to Michael Cashman. He says things aren’t looking good, and that there are going to be restrictions on discussions about gender which you may or may not have. Which is to disadvantage trans people."
“If they think they’re going to get votes by doing that, I think they’re sadly mistaken.” ....
The actor said that, from his experience of visiting schools in recent years, it appears that students and staff were highly accepting of LGBTQ+ people."
“I think governments who will now try to change things, put things in reverse will find it very difficult. I think there would be revolution in the streets, frankly.”

Sir Ian McKellen fears that the UK government may ban social transitioning in schools.
Tumblr media
Sir Ian "Gandalf" McKellen fears a return of Thatcher’s infamous Section 28, as the government considers new guidance that could ban social transitioning in schools, Pink News reports.
Section 28, which was introduced in 1988, banned the “promotion of homosexuality” in schools, and remained in place until 2000 in Scotland and 2003 in England and Wales.
To Attitude the actor said:
"I talked to [British actor and LGBTQ activist] Michael Cashman. He says things aren’t looking good, and that there are going to be restrictions on discussions about gender which you may or may not have. Which is to disadvantage trans people. “If they think they’re going to get votes by doing that, I think they’re sadly mistaken.”
McKellen co-founded LGBTQ rights campaigning group Stonewall together with Lisa Power and Michael Cashman, among others, to protest Section 28.
Failed British Prime Minister Liz Truss calls for ban on children transitioning at school. However, there are signs that the current PM, Rishi Sunak, has abandoned Conservative plans to block trans children from changing their gender identity at school.

"This was my own tribe!" Sunil Gupta on Pride March in London in the 1980s and -90s.
Tumblr media
"When Sunil Gupta moved to London from New York in the late 70s, he was surprised to find no equivalent of New York’s Christopher Street. All the gays and lesbians appeared to be in hiding, found only in a handful of pubs and after-hours clubs. This changed with the 1970s fledgeling gay marches. The photographs in his new book encompass the period from the mid to late 1980s and recount Pride marches before corporate sponsors, as well as CND gatherings, demos supporting the miners’ strikes and protests against Clause 28. Come Out: Protest and Pride 1985-1995 is published by Stanley Barker"
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
"Here is Ian McKellen being interviewed by the media, talking about what was still called Clause 27 as it reads on his banner – soon to become the more infamous Clause 28. There weren’t many celebrities on these marches, but two actors did step forward and sometimes even led the marches: McKellen and also Michael Cashman, who was appearing in EastEnders at the time."

Everything Jeff Nelson is saying--even the stuff about the deadline--makes a lot of sense to me. Michael Kay has also had some good points, and he'd go off on Cashman if he wanted to. It honestly does make me feel better about the deadline
But also every time I think they've hit rock bottom it gets a little worse

Yanks go out w/ a whimper
Watching the performance of the N.Y. Yankees against the Houston Astros was frustrating! Nothing against the Astros- they're an excellent team that knows how 2 finish off an opponent 'On The Brink'. The Yankees just seemed 2 do more damage 2 themselves, than The Astros. Unnecessary Errors gave extra Outs & stretched out Pitchers, which led 2 Astro Runs Scored. Poor Yankee At Bats led 2 Strikeouts & Men Left On Base.
Sportscasters from YES & TBS speculated on factors like fatique, & injuries, but those Players supposedly want 2 play in October- what excuse can U make 4 mailing it in? The Yankees barely made it past the Young & Hungry Cleveland Guardians. Terry Francona has captured lightning in a bottle. I told friends that The Yanks will have 2 step up their game against an Astros Team that has Owned them in recent Years. I didn't see the anger that I saw in Yankee Teams of The Past.
My N.Y. Yankee Experience goes back 2 1976, when they won the A.L. Pennant. That Team was swept by Pete Rose & 'The Big Red Machine', but @ least that Yankee Team put up a fight... I dare say that the 2022 ALC was The Worst Yankee Performance that I ever seen in a Playoff Series; that includes their 2004 Embarrassment. What frustrated me the most, were the Players' attitudes. Where was the Anger? They seemed disappointed, maybe saddened, but not Angry. Anthony Rizzo & Garrett Cole came closest 2 anger. Cole deadpanned that The Astros outplayed The Yanks @ every position, while Rizzo sounded like he's planning 2 test Free Agent Waters, like Aaron Judge.
Aaron Boone's strategy is being called into question. He made a few head scratching moves over The Season, but he's not on the Field, or in the Batter's Box. The Players have 2 own their share of The Blame. The Yankees Post Season Batting Average was below .200. U won't win any Championships like that. Michael Kay sounded like he was fitting Aaron Boone 4 a noose, but injuries caused more harm than expected. Matt Carpenter, DJ. LeMahieu, & Andrew Benintendi were On Fire b4 going on the IL. Aroldis Chapman self destructed. He looked like a spoiled brat, when he was called in 2 pitch ANY inning other than the 9th. I don't expect him back in 2023.
Sportscasters R talking about 'Big Changes' coming in Yankees Universe. They R quick 2 mention Aaron Boone & Brian Cashman, but once again, The Players didn't play up 2 the back of their Baseball Card. Josh Donaldson & Aaron Hicks both had a dismal Season. Isaiah Kiner- Falefa & Glyber Torres were inconsistent. Giancarlo Stanton never got into his rhythm. This is why the Astros made short work of a Yankee Team that competed in previous meetings.
I just wanted Yanks 2 show more Grit; there's no shame in losing, if U gave Ur Best Effort. Not sure if the Yankees can honestly say that. Now, We wait 4 Post Season Theatrics. The Aaron Judge Sweepstakes alone promise 2 B drama filled. Hopefully, Brian Cashman will treat Aaron Judge better than he treated Derek Jeter.

Yankees’ Offseason Moves and Concerns So Far
Hal Steinbrenner keeps Brian Cashman as the Yankees general manager/vice president.
Brian Cashman keeps Aaron Boone as the Yankees manager.
Domingo Germán was released by the Yankees.
Sean Casey declined the extension as the Yankees hitting coach for next season due to personal familial issues.
James Rowson replaces Sean Casey as the Yankees hitting coach for next season.
Bench coach Carlos Mendoza left to become the New York Mets manager for next season.
Brad Ausmus was hired as the new Yankees bench coach.
Rumors of Juan Soto becoming a Yankee haven’t been confirmed or denied, yet.
The Yankees are looking at Japanese baseball player Yoshinobu Yamamoto to strengthen their starting pitching rotation.
However, Yamamoto wants to play with other Japanese players, which is more feasible on the West Coast of the United States.
Only time will tell if Luis Severino stays with the Yankees and pitches well in general.
Also, who knows if Nestor Cortes, Carlos Rodón, Michael King, and Clarke Schmidt will pitch effectively and stay consistent in their starts?
Does Brian Cashman keep Frankie Montas who has been banged up/hurt for most of his Yankees tenure? I hope not.
The medical staff who grossly neglected Anthony Rizzo and his concussion symptoms weren’t fired.
Anthony Rizzo may not be the same player that he was in 2022 and the first third of the 2023 season.
Brian Cashman didn’t fire the sabermetrics department.
Who will play centerfield in Jasson Domiguez’s absence for most of 2024? Who knows?

IT IS FINALLY HERE! THE CASE FOR CANCEL CULTURE IS EVERYWHERE WHERE BOOKS ARE SOLD!
I am officially a published author!I’m reflecting on the many years of preparation, interviews, writing, editing, drafting, rejections, renewals, re-shifts, rebranding, and re-learning it took to get to this point.
To be able to hold this book in my hands and know that thousands of others will too is an inexplicable feeling that I’m having a hard time putting in words.
I’m truly grateful to my book agent, Stephanie Winter at P.S. Literary agency, for believing in this project from the very beginning. I want to thank my agent, Sean Lawton at Collective Speakers for making sure I stay booked, busy, and paid during this journey. Eric Smith, you already know how I feel about you and forever gonna sing your praises for getting this all started in that little cafe in Drexel four years ago. Nicole Cashman and the team at Cashman & Associates for lending your incredible services in making sure Philly was centered in this experience. Jeannine Cook and your team at Harriet’s Bookstore are the warriors that backed this book from the jump – thank you for relentless support. Patty Jackson, thank you – what is understood doesn’t have to be fully explained. To my team at St. Martin’s Press/Macmillan Publishers: my editor Cassidy Graham, my publicist John Karle, the marketing crew lead by Martin Quinn, and everyone at Macmillan Audiobooks for taking this to the next level! Forever thankful for the editorial guidance and feedback of Ceri Marsh, who was a true friend to behold during this journey!
To all of the people who allowed me to interview them for this book: Kenyette Tisha Barnes, Leslie Mac, Daniela Capistrano, Jon Pierre, William E. Ketchum, III, Michael Coard, Preston Mitchum, Randy Robinson, Dawn Ennis, J. Mase III, Dr. Meredith D. Clark, Desiree Peterkin Bell, Dorcas A., and Dr. Anthea Butler -- thank you so much for lending your important voice to this topic. I learned so much from you all and this book is all the better for it!
I want to thank my family and friends for allowing me to be great at this time. All of the conversations we’ve had and all of the time you all let me have to exhaust you on all things cancel culture hasn’t been taken for granted. Definitely want to thank my husband Barry Johnson for pushing me to go all the way in writing this book in the first place. What initially was just a guest op-ed in the New York Times became a full-length book that was deeper than any of the original ideas I previously had for one. Thank you for reminding me to never play it safe.
To every journalist, media outlet, blogger, influencer, and fan who has written, posted, purchased and/or shouted-out this book, thank you so much for believing in this work and giving me the confidence to keep going! Seriously, all of that love was truly felt.
And lastly, you’ll see on the first page that I dedicate this book “To my beloved grandmother, Ethel, who first taught me how to cancel unapologetically, and to my dear mother, Lolita, who later taught me how to cancel with grace.”
Enough said.
If you haven’t already, you can now purchase THE CASE FOR CANCEL CULTURE where ever hardback books AND/OR audiobooks are sold.

Aaron Judge Brother: Will Judge Outfit Have A Captain On It?
Tumblr media
The New York Yankees’ (2016-) professional baseball player Aaron Judge, full name Aaron James Judge, was born on April 26, 1992. In 2022, he broke the American League mark for the most home runs hit in a season. His 62 home runs surpassed Roger Maris, a former Yankee, who had held the mark for 61 years. He signed a nine-year, $360 million contract to remain with the New York Yankees in December 2022. The judge was raised in Linden, California, after being adopted by teachers Patty and Wayne Judge the day after his birth. When Aaron Judge noticed he didn’t look much like his parents and started to ask questions, he was around 10 or 11 years old. Judge is multiracial, 6 feet 7 inches tall (2.01 meters), and weighs 282 pounds (128 kg). John Judge, his older brother, had also been adopted.

Aaron Judge Brother The day after his birth, instructors Patty and Wayne Judge adopted Judge, who was raised in Linden, California. When Aaron Judge recognized he didn’t look like his parents and started to ask questions, he was probably 10 or 11 years old. Judge is multiracial, 6 feet 7 inches tall (2.01 meters), and weighs 282 pounds (128 kg). John Judge, his older brother, had also been adopted. I grew in my mother’s heart; some children grow in their mother’s stomachs. Since I was a young child, she has always treated me with love and concern. I’ve never had to question anything or think in a different way.” You also like it:- - Alex Haley Net Worth: Is He Still Alive Or Not? - Kenneth Copeland Net Worth: How Much Money Does He Make In a Year?
Will Judge Outfit Have A Captain On It?
The pitchers and catchers for the New York Yankees will report to Spring Training in Tampa, Florida, in less than 30 days. It’s a new year, so it’s time to take a closer look at the Yankees Inbox to see what questions you, the fans, have: The quick response is no. On the day of his news conference, I pointed at the Nike swoosh on Judge’s right chest and said, “No C?” when he entered the room to meet with the print media. “No, we don’t do that here,” he chuckled. And it’s true: neither Don Mattingly, Thurman Munson, nor any of the prior Yankees captains wore a “C,” and neither did Derek Jeter. In general, though it has happened a few times in baseball, it has been more of a label for other sports. I also remember Jason Varitek wearing the letter with the Red Sox from 2005 through 2011, and John Franco choosing to wear one when he was named the Mets’ captain in 2001. https://twitter.com/BRWalkoff/status/1613560674277363712 I also came across this comment that Jeter once provided me with when researching this: “I’m no different than everybody else in the club,” he stated in 2008. “I am aware that I have that position. I’m not suggesting that everybody who wears it is doing it wrong, but for me, it’s never been a problem.” Yes. In December, general manager Brian Cashman reaffirmed that Donaldson will “absolutely” start at the hot corner in 2023. The 37-year-offensive old’s production, which the Yanks are counting on to improve, saw him hit.222/.308/.374 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 132 games (94 OPS+). It looks like Donaldson will have more opportunities to influence the Yankees’ lineup since both Cashman and manager Aaron Boone feel that the third baseman should have been heavily involved in the Gold Glove discussion.
Aaron Judge Supporters Hope For Another Spectacular Campaign From Him
Aaron Judge’s tremendous season with the New York Yankees in 2022 completely spoils the fans. A player from the American League or anybody else without at least the appearance of a steroid scandal has never hit 62 home runs. But it would be a little ridiculous to anticipate Judge to have a similar season. Expectations were dampened by Michael Kay, who both hosts Yankees games on YES Network and produces a radio show about them. https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/1594868828525441024 Although not historically accurate, Kay’s projections could be sufficient for a second MVP campaign: Despite Judge’s remarkable season, there is no reason to believe that he won’t once again perform at an All-Star or even MVP level this year. He has consistently performed at that level while healthy, so there is no reason to anticipate a significant decline in 2023.
