"When Sunil Gupta moved to London from New York in the late 70s, he was surprised to find no equivalent of New York’s Christopher Street. All the gays and lesbians appeared to be in hiding, found only in a handful of pubs and after-hours clubs. This changed with the 1970s fledgeling gay marches. The photographs in his new book encompass the period from the mid to late 1980s and recount Pride marches before corporate sponsors, as well as CND gatherings, demos supporting the miners’ strikes and protests against Clause 28. Come Out: Protest and Pride 1985-1995 is published by Stanley Barker"

"Here is Ian McKellen being interviewed by the media, talking about what was still called Clause 27 as it reads on his banner – soon to become the more infamous Clause 28. There weren’t many celebrities on these marches, but two actors did step forward and sometimes even led the marches: McKellen and also Michael Cashman, who was appearing in EastEnders at the time."

GenAI in India: Tech Industry Partnerships Catalyze Adoption

The likes of IBM, Tech Mahindra, Google Cloud, Netapp, Deloitte, ServiceNow and the likes are all jumping into the GenAI bandwagon. APAC News Network explores the dynamics of some of these partnerships.

GenAI or Generative AI is fast gaining grounds in India, especially in terms of acceptance by different stakeholders. These include the different enterprises across different verticals using GenAI in different facets of their businesses. Another stakeholder has been the Indian GenAI-based SaaS startups whose numbers too are rapidly rising every year. Add to this the IT services giants and software giants who too are jumping into the GenAI bandwagon. Last but not the least, the government too is supporting the GenAI revolution with proactive policy formation and creating appropriate implementation environment in the country.

Worldwide there is an explosion in the number of Gen AI-native SaaS companies and a surge in investment capital, with over $12 billion funneled into 60+ emerging domains in FY23 alone. The Indian players, on the other hand, raised $590 million in funding during the same time period.  While globally there are 259 generative AI startups as of 2024, in India there are around 20+ pure-play generative AI startups.

Sunil Gupta (fotógrafo)

Sunil Gupta (nascido em 1953) é um fotógrafo canadense nascido na Índia e que mora em Londres. Sua carreira foi dedicada a "fazer um trabalho respondendo às injustiças sofridas por homens gays em todo o mundo, incluindo ele mesmo", incluindo temas de identidade sexual , migração , raça e família . Gupta produziu vários livros e seu trabalho está nas coleções do Museu de Arte Moderna de Nova York, do Museu de Arte da Filadélfia e da Tate . Em 2020, foi premiado com o Honorary Fellowship da Royal Photographic Society . 

Juventude e educação 

Gupta nasceu em Nova Delhi, Índia, em 1953. Em 1969, ele migrou para Montreal, Canadá, com sua família. 

Estudou no Dawson College , Montreal (1970–1972); obteve o título de Bacharel em Comércio em Contabilidade pela Concordia University , Montreal (1972–1977); estudou fotografia na The New School for Social Research na cidade de Nova York (1976); obteve um diploma em fotografia na West Surrey College of Art and Design , Farnham, Reino Unido (1978–1981); obteve um mestrado em fotografia no Royal College of Art de Londres (1981–1983); e obteve doutorado na Universidade de Westminster , Londres (2018). 

Vida e trabalho 

Gupta abraçou sua sexualidade pela primeira vez quando chegou à Universidade Concordia, em Montreal, em 1970. Ele se juntou a um grupo do movimento de libertação gay no campus e tirou fotos para seu jornal. 

Sua carreira foi dedicada a "fazer trabalhos respondendo às injustiças sofridas por homens gays em todo o mundo, inclusive ele próprio", incluindo temas de identidade sexual , migração , raça e família . Suas séries incluem fotografias de rua de Christopher Street (1976); Reflexões da Experiência Negra (1986); Relações familiares fingidas (1988); Memoriais (1995); os retratos narrativos de From Here to Eternity (1999); e as cenas altamente encenadas e construídas de Os Novos Pré-Rafaelitas (2008). 

Outras atividades 

Gupta foi um dos fundadores da Association of Black Photographers (agora Autograph ABP ) em Londres em 1988. Em 2019, ele fez parte do júri que escolheu Susan Meiselas para o Prêmio Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation . 

Vida pessoal 

Em 1983 Gupta estabeleceu-se em Londres .

Gupta é casada com Charan Singh, também fotógrafo. Eles moram em Camberwell, Londres. 

Gupta foi diagnosticado com HIV em 1995.
