My New York Sirens primer for @amandayetagain:

Forwards:

Sarah Fillier - #10 - first overall draft pick after New York kind of was trash enough to get out of the playoffs first and then actually win a few games (I’m not gonna bother explaining the gold plan it’s not relevant just understand they were terrible hence the first draft pick). There was some drama about whether she’d sign and about how long so she’s on a one year contract which means New York needs to make the most of her while she’s not a free agent and try and claw themselves back into respectability. There was some murmuring in my circles at least about her being overrated but she got a hatty in the preseason so I’m not too worried about it

Abby Roque - #11 - commits lots and lots of ice crimes but most of them are objectively funny. She’s actually hilarious and an icon and when she’s not in the penalty box she’s a pretty good scorer for New York and plays at the National team. Alex Carpenter - #25 - weary veteran who carried her team on her shoulders last season. When no one could score she was there and she just looked exhausted. Is an alternate captain in reality but deserves all the honors for dealing with last season

Honorable mention:

Jill Saulnier - #44 - is really close with the Montreal players for some reason spent all offseason training up there maybe some of the iconique rubbed off on her

Defenders:

Ella Shelton - #17 - scored the first inaugural goal and never really stopped was the only person beside Carpenter to do anything offensively when the team was at its worst, probably got snubbed for defender of the year. In comparison to carpenter though she looks pretty cheery about everything.

Honorable Mention:

Micah Zandee-Hart - #28 - gluten free and the captain. Didn’t do much last year but neither did my captain so

Goalies:

Corinne Schroeder - #30 - she was my first goalie crush she was an icon all of last season and really only struggled bc her team couldn’t do anything and she wasn’t part mythological being (*cough* aerin frankel). Is a little snubbed by team Canada and iconic nonetheless great at what she does

Honorable mention:

Abbey Levy - #39 - a really solid number 2 with banging pads
