The Emerald Cravat (and Other Tales to Haunt You) for the OFMD Reverse Bang 2023

My baby is complete! Here she is! This is a collection of four short stories based off of those from the children's scary story book "In a Dark, Dark Room" by Alvin Schwartz. Because these four stories are so completely different from one another, I split them into four works so that you can mind the tags. They are completely separate, and you do not need to read one to read another. Below the link I'll give brief information about each one so you can decide if it's something you're interested in. Not all of them are scary! The first two are pure horror, the third one is more melancholy mixed with funny, and the last one is just pure fun for my Canyon friends.

Story One: The Emerald Cravat (based off of The Green Ribbon) - This story features Stede Bonnet, angst, cryptids, a curse and some gore/body horror. It's a retelling of Stede's life as well as the first season of the show with Stede under a terrible curse. This one is pure horror/angst. 6k words.

Story Two: The Puppet (based off of The Pirate) - This story features Edward, angst, a haunting, and is IMO as the writer both the scariest and best of the lot. 3.7k words.

Story Three: La Noche que Llovió Sangre (based off of The Night it Rained) - This story features Jim and their backstory, a (literal) ghost from their past, as well as interjections/monologues from various characters involved in their story. Not scary, but does involve the ghost of a child and all that entails, so please mind the tags if child death isn't your favorite. 4k words.

Story Four: Winner Teeth: The Rap Opera (based off of The Teeth) - This work of genius features Izzy Hands and a whole lot of sick bars. Izzy has to defend the Revenge from Stede's onboarding crew. Why does he have to do it in verse? Because. Not scary at all, just silly and different. It does have canon-typical violence in it FYI, but isn't graphic. 2.1k words.

My artist for this RBB unfortunately went MIA during the process, and I am therefore unable to share the (frankly gorgeous) art that they produced for it. I therefore decided to create my own art for all four works, even though my own skill is lacking. I did use real-life photographs of objects and screenshots from the show as references (and to trace from in a couple of instances) in order to do this for full disclosure. I did not make the art for these fics as a way to show off my talent or skill, but more to just contribute to the vibe and give a visual reference for a couple of things. The first of the works contains a guest piece of art by @thequeenhasnolife which is just so special to me.

Pretty sure Darren and Mia's name bracelets are custom by Kyle Chan, who designed there wedding rings. Kyle often pops up on the reality tv show Vanderpump Rules and a few of the cast members mainly Tom Sandoval (trash human) and Tom Schwartz on the show have similar bracelet styles, specifically the same glass beads and gold detailing. It wouldn't shock me if Kyle sent one to them as a baby gift after they announced Brothers arrival. Also we have seen in the past that Darren has one with Mia's name and Mia vice versa.

If the bracelets are from Kyle Chan, it's possible he send them as gifts. Or someone bought them as a gift for Darren and Mia.

Mas series para esta colección de nuevas o actuales.Series del siglo XXI.En este caso el resumen pertenece a una serie alemana llamada BIOHACHERS del año 2020 y que extendió por otro más, para completar dos temporadas y 12 capítulos en total.

Es un thriller de ciencia ficción en el cual abundan los flashbacks, creando un halo de misterio y al mismo tiempo mezclado con un drama de tinte adolescente.Mia Akerlund (LUNA WEDLER) es una joven inglesa que llega a la ciudad universitaria de Friburgo, la más grande de Alemania.

Mia desde el primer semestre de curso, demuestra un talento inusual y pone énfasis especial en la profesora, doctora e investigadora Tanja Lorenz (la buena actriz JESSICA SCHWARTZ ).Esta aparentemente tienen algún tipo de relación con su pasado.Mia sospecha que podría estar involucrada en la muerte de su hermano y trata de acercarse a toda costa a ella, incluso si tiene que establecer una relación con Jasper (ADRIAN JULIUS TILLMAN), quien es el ayudante de laboratorio de la doctora.Jasper es estudiante de biología y tiene a cargo diversosexperimentos fuera de la facultad, que rozan con lo ilegal.

Las cosas se precipitan de golpe y Mia descubre toda una conspiración que esta relacionada con el BIOHACKING, que es una filosofía nacida a partir del año 2000, y que involucra intenciones de modificar las estructuras de los seres vivos; con el objetivo de explorar sus capacidades o incluso de crear nuevas funciones.Una de las practicas mas comunes es el estudio de los marcadores genéticos para identificar una especie, la fabricación de material de laboratorio de bajo coste para estudiar la vida y el cultivo de microorganismos no patógenos para obtener sus productos.Cabe destacar que la manipulación genética de seres vivos así como la lectura del ADN humano están sujetas a regulación en la mayoría de países del mundo, y son muy pocos los laboratorios de biología DIY (asi se llama) que poseen una licencia del estado para realizar tales operaciones.

Pues bien, con sus compañeros de cuarto y finalmente amigos y además un aliado inesperado, descubrirá accediendo a los historiales antiguos de la empresa de la Dra. Lorenz, un antiguo proyecto llamado HOMO DEUS.

Obviamente la historia se desarrolla en 2020 (como podría ser en 2030 o 2040) y esto sucede de manera sub académica es decir fuera de los carriles normales y con sujetos llevando a cabo sus propias investigaciones y contando con pocos medios, pero mucha imaginación.

Aquí estamos de lleno en una temática transhumanista y las posibilidades de las nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al mundo de la ingeniera genética.Si bien el guion es un poco flojo, particularmente sugiere algunos variables que van a estar muy presentes en los próximos años.Por sobre todo, que la manipulación genética seguramente va a seguir prohibida y que se seguirá desarrollando de manera ilegal y que las terapias descubiertas no serán ni estarán al alcance de la mayoría y que dadas ciertas circunstancia si estas cayeran en manos equivocadas podría ser peligroso para la humanidad.

El argumento presenta dos protagonistas excluyentes Mia y la Dra. Lorenz.Son partes contrapuestas.Mia, la joven brillante que intenta descubrir además, a los responsables de la muerte de sus padres en un accidente y que le ocasiono heridas también a ella y por el otro, la Dra. Lorenz, ambiciosa, poderosa y veterana profesora que está a la vanguardia de las investigaciones de biohacking.Finalmente Mia se anota en su cátedra y cada una de ellas tiene un entorno diferente.La Dra. Lorenz al ver que Mia es brillante, la acepta en su laboratorio como ayudante.

Hasta qui todo bien, el tema es que después empiezan a aparecer tramas secundarias que no llevan a ningún lado, que son de puro relleno.Mia empieza a sospechar que las cosas no son como las preveía y empieza a tener dudas sobre la Dra. Lorenz y esta a su vez, sobre su alumna.

La frase que pintaría la serie seria que los médicos dejarían de ser puros sanadores, para convertirse en creadores, utilizando estas técnicas de terapia y manipulación genética, en donde se crearían soluciones (o evitaría) para diversas enfermedades de manera personal.

Yo diría que las actuaciones son buenas, pero el entorno donde vive Mia es mejor, dado que los otros estudiantes con los cuales convive (y que la ayudan en todo) le dan vida a la serie.Estos jóvenes y otros del campus, practican estos temas creando drogas nuevas que mejoren el rendimiento físico y mental, incorporándose esas drogas mediante implantes.

Entonces para ir cerrando el resumen, lo más interesante además de la relación entre Mia y la Dra. Lorenz, es el pasado de Mia y por el cual viajamos en dos direcciones: por un lado la muerte de su hermano y por el otro la muerte de sus padres.Tanto la temporada una como la dos, dejan espacio para más.Quizás hubiera estado bueno, una tercera temporada para más explicaciones y cerrar definitivamente la serie.Pero esto es de N y cierras series sin explicación alguna.Entonces lo mejor es que el mundo del biohacking es de lo mas interesante y que seguramente en un futuro no muy lejano escucharemos mucho esta palabra, lo peor es que los capítulos avanzan lentos a pesar de ser solo 6 por cada temporada y que la trama queda totalmente abierta.Mi puntaje para este show es 5.5/10.

Thoughts about commentary on the new arc with Harary:

She initially shows up and complains about the security detail that Therdeo has assigned for her protection. They feel constricting to her, and she accuses them of watching her every move. She warns Pereshati to leave the family before they can exploit her, and is generally brash in her admonishment of both the Grand Duke and Duchess.

But the Lapileons have recently been the target of violent terrorism, and they work closely with the royal family, and there is a lot of unrest due to the recent annexation of the kingdom of Schwartz - it make sense that Therdeo is trying to protect her, since her attachment to the family has caused her pain and possibly made her a target. We have seen that Perry is cherished by the family, and Harary should have seen that too if she had been reading the newspapers. Why would a husband seeking to dominate his wife completely help her to oust her stepmother from the family in a murder trial? Why would a family seeking to use her as a brood mare publicly praise her and make a show of offering her so many gifts, as the Lapileons did not a few chapters ago? That should speak volumes about the differences in their relationship to the Lapileons, but instead Harary immediately tells Perry to leave the family.

Perception: I find it odd that people are so willing to side with Harary over Therdeo immediately. We have spent over a hundred chapters getting to know Therdeo, and we know nothing about Harary. Her motives are indiscernible, and what happened in the past is wallpapered over. We know that she is bitter about the outcome, but not why. Therdeo seems apologetic, but he was not at the center of that incident - his brother was. All we know is that Celphius and his mother are separated, and Therdeo has adopted Celphi as his legal son. What happened between Theo’s brother and Harary happened about ten years ago, when Theo was still young (he is shorter and less broad in the illustration of him standing over Celphi’s crib). This suggests that Harary is much older than Theo, and probably feels she can push him around - remember how reticent he got during the incident with Islette’s biological father, Gen, a former Lapileon family doctor that Theo admired. Gen also tried to push Therdeo around once he saw Therdeo hesitating during his questioning, and I think the impulse is similar with Harary. Neither adult knows Therdeo the war hero, Therdeo the husband, Therdeo the man - they are only familiar with the child they once knew. It doesn’t help that Theo does seem to genuinely feel sorry for Harary, which likely overwhelmed his ability to speak out when they met. We have also already seen what it looks like when someone underestimates Perry - the other family doctor, Mia. Mia’s behavior seeks to undermine Perry’s concern and interest in aiding Phineas, but Perry continues on for Phineas, for Theo (who is desperately afraid of losing his uncle), for Islette (whose first father betrayed her) - for the welfare of the Lapileons as a family.

TL;DR - Therdeo is not his brother, and Harary is not Perry. Therdeo is not the harsh man his brother seems to have been, and seems to tend towards gentleness and caring, if coming off a bit cold and distant with his feelings. Harary and Perry are both strong, but we have not yet seen that Harary cares for others deeply as Perry does - Perry’s empathy is what has given her the strength to stand up for others and herself, and Harary has not seen that yet. All she seems to see is a young woman, who must be gullible and kept in the dark just like she was. It’s true though that the Lapileons prefer to hide uncomfortable feelings and situations, so it is also wise to be skeptical of any innocence on the part of the Lapileons, but it’s far too early to assume that the hostility is wholly deserved (at least towards Theo and Perry).
