AN: I wanted to write something for Jaehyun and this plot came to me so I wrote it out :) enjoy and thanks for reading! <3
You: You really fucked up this time Jae
Jae: I don’t know what to say

You: Maybe sorry? You never actually say sorry
Jae: I’ll be there for you both, you know that
You: Whatever Jae, you know where to send the money
You kept the last text messages you sent each other to read them whenever you felt yourself falling back into an unrealistic fantasy, just to remind you why you broke up in the first place.
You were young, he was young. 19 to be exact. It was freshman year of college and one thing lead to another and you decided to keep the baby. He wasn’t against it but deep down you both knew you weren’t ready for parenthood quite yet. You had 6 years of dating history with him, having met him in your first year of high school. It wasn’t until you got pregnant that his personality changed and it lead him to do stupid things.
“You’re going to be a dad soon Jae, you can’t just act like that’s not a thing.”
“Who said I wasn’t? I’m literally just trying to live my life as a normal 19 year old! We’re not getting this age back so you can’t be mad!”
He didn’t understand at the time and you haven’t spoken to him since you broke up to know if he’s matured in any way. You loved him and you know he loved you, but there was no way you could handle the stress of him changing so suddenly.
“Come on baby, you have to come put your shoes on now” you called from the kitchen as you packed the small lunchbox into a backpack not much larger.
Being a single mom was difficult but you loved your daughter enough to look past all the hardships. You worked your ass off to make sure she went to a good school to get the best education since you didn’t have the luxury of staying home to teach her yourself.
She runs into the living room across from the kitchen and sits on the floor by the front door to slip on her shoes. You smile to yourself when you see she’s getting the hang of putting them on the correct foot.
You grabbed her backpack and your lunch bag and rushed to put your shoes on as well. You checked her outfit one last time before walking out the door.
It was routine to take her inside and to her classroom, making sure she made it safely and to greet her teacher every morning.
“Hi Mia! Let’s all say good morning to Mia!” the teacher waved both her hands to get the kids’ attention.
“Good morning Mia!” they all shouted in unison and a few of them ran up to hug her.
You stopped her to exchange your goodbye kisses before she ran off with her friends. “Thank you so much, I will be back later to pick her up.” You waved to her teacher as you walked toward the door.
“Of course, you have a great day!”
It was also routine for you to make a quick stop at the local cafe for a hot drink before work, usually choosing anything that goes good with two shots of espresso. When you walked in, a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and every other fall scent filled the air, making it clear of the changing seasons.
The man in front of you stood tall and browsed the many options on the overhead menu. “Must be new”you thought. Ever since you moved to this small town, you’ve grown used to seeing familiar faces, so someone not knowing what they wanted from the menu in such a popular cafe was strange.
He was handsome from the back. Dark chocolate locks slightly slicked back minus the few strands that fell to the front and a great sense of style. He wore a simple brown turtleneck under a black jacket with black pants and shoes to match. He looked expensive. You stopped staring at him so intensely when he finally spoke up to order.
“I’ll go with the pumpkin spice latte, and add two shots of espresso please.”
Funny, that’s exactly what you planned on ordering. Great fashion sense and good taste? Now you were curious if his face matched his handsome image from the back. To your dismay, he went straight over to sit at one of the corner tables by the window, back turned toward you.
“Hey, great morning we’re having! What can I get ya?” the cashier at the front greeted you as she always does, seeming to always have a smile on her face.
“Uh, I’ll actually order what he did” you pointed in the dapper man’s direction and she nodded her head as she pressed a few buttons on the screen.
“That’ll be $3.75”
You took your card out of your wallet and tapped it against the card reader. You went to sit at your favorite seat and wait for your order to be called.
“Pumpkin spice latte, two shots of espresso!”
You looked up from your phone and watched the barista push two identical cups forward on the counter in the pickup area. As you approached your drink, you looked over to see the man still sitting in his seat. He must not have heard them call out the order, but taking a quick glance at your watch there was no way you had time to be a good samaritan and make it to work on time.
You picked up your latte and walked toward the door, taking one last look back to see if you would witness him getting his drink before you fully stepped out. Surprisingly, he got up from his seat and turned around to go over and retrieve his order. You felt cold, body frozen with your hand on the “push to open” door. Your hands were trembling, drink barely secure in them. Your heart dropped.
There he was, in the flesh. The father of your child and the man you once called “the love of your life”. You moved to this town to start a new life and get away from having possible run ins with him, but seeing as he was standing in the cafe you visited everyday like clockwork, your plan to stay hidden had been ruined. You quickly turned around before he looked in your direction and pushed the door open.
You stared at the road in a daze, driving with your limbs on autopilot. It’s going on 5 years since you’ve seen him last and could have gone the rest of your life without doing so.
You had to admit, seeing him made you realize how much he blossomed more into an adult in such a short amount of time. You missed him, but had to think of the text messages that still sat in your phone today. You could never let yourself fall down that hole again, especially for your daughter’s sake. You hated Mia not knowing her father, but it was best for now that she didn’t get attached to someone who might not stay.
You parked your car in the lot, hands still gripping the steering wheel, your head falling forward on the horn. It was going to be tough getting through your shift today with the anxiety bubbling up in you. What was he doing here anyways? To you, he had no business in this small town. There was nothing too exciting about the place and it seemed to house mostly people 30 and above.
Whatever he was here for, you hoped it was only for today and you didn’t have to go through seeing him on a regular basis.
4 o’clock came sooner than you expected, probably thanks to how unfocused you were all day. Right now your daughter was the only thing on your mind and you wanted to pick her up quickly so she didn’t wait longer than need be.
“Mommy mommy! Look, I got a sticker!” she runs up to you with her arm extended to show you the sticky image on the back of her hand.
“Wooow baby, it’s so nice! Who gave that to you?”
“Mrs. Burgess! She said I did really good on my writing my name today!”
You smiled and patted her on the head, picking her up and planting a kiss on her cheek.
“Great job my Mia, mommy’s so proud! You have to show mommy how you write your name later okay?”
She nodded and wrapped her arms around your neck as you opened the back passenger door for her to sit in her car seat. After strapping her in, you slid in the front ready to get home and end the day.
“Mommy, next week is parent’s day! Everyone made paper flowers for their mommies and daddies.”
“Ooo a surprise for mommy? I can’t wait to see it!”
“Yes! I made one for daddy too so tell him to come too!”
You froze in your seat, taking a peek at her from the rear view mirror. “Mia
daddy’s not here remember?” you swallowed thickly, hoping that she would skip over her mistake and leave the conversation alone.
“Why can’t daddy come this one time? I want to give daddy his flower.”
You were stumped. As much as you tried to prepare yourself for this day, your mouth was sewn shut. You didn’t want to contact him, you didn’t want to see him, you just didn’t want to get hurt again. You weren’t even sure if he had the same number if you did want to shoot him a text. You were the one to break up with him because of his antics and you were also the reason why he had never come to visit. From changing your number to moving to a whole different city, you tried to erase your identity from his memory.
It wasn’t something you wanted to worry about and you hoped your daughter would simply forget by the time next week came around.
The next morning, you went back to the cafe, heart not racing until you look over at where he sat yesterday. Thankfully no one who matched the description sat there now and you considered yourself off the hook. What were the chances he had actually moved to this city and yesterday was one of many days you’d run into each other?
“Hey Emma, same as yesterday please!” you smiled at your normal cashier and went to go sit in your usual spot after you paid.
“Y/N?” The voice sounded unsure, cautious, in disbelief. When you turned around, his eyes matched the tone of the words that left his mouth. “Oh my god, it really is you! You look
good.”
Your mind was going haywire. Jaehyun was standing merely inches away from you, looking just as good as he did yesterday in much more comfortable attire.
“Hey Jae.” you said weakly, “Yeah, you too.”
“I uh
would have paid for your drink if I knew it was you.” He smiled his signature smile. That damn smile and those stupid dimples. It took everything in you to not slap the look off his face. “C-can you talk? It’s been a while.”
Admittedly you didn’t have to be to work for another hour and a half, so you had time since it was only 30 minutes away and traffic was still good. You were indeed curious what he wanted to talk about but didn’t want it to turn out like it did the many times you played it out in your head. It wouldn’t hurt to try though.
“Uhhhh yeah sure.”
He smiled as if he high-fived himself for getting you to agree and he followed you back to your table after grabbing the drinks.
“How have you been? I hadn’t seen you around and now I know why.”
“I’ve been good, just working. And yeah, I’ve been here. How have you been?” You looked down at your cup and let your thumbs play with the sides.
“I’ve been good too. Working mostly, nothing special.”
You nodded your head and gave him a small smile, having the courage to finally look up at him.
“How’s the little one?” he asked hesitantly but you knew it would come out eventually.
“Mia? She’s good. She’s in kindergarten now.”
His eyes widened and the grip on his cup got a bit tighter. You forgot he didn’t know the name you chose since you moved before you went into labor and never got the chance to discuss any of those things.
“Wow, I see I missed a lot
”
“Yeah Jae, you did.”
“Well if you don’t mind, I can change that. I’m actually in the process of moving here in like 2 weeks. I can take her to school some days and watch her too to take something off your plate.”
Fear welled up in your chest at the mention of him taking her since it felt like he would never bring her back. “I’m actually not comfortable with that at all. I’m not sure she needs someone so unstable this early in her life.”
He raised an eyebrow, “what is that supposed to mean?”
“Well I don’t know Jae, I was alone my entire pregnancy so I’m not sure I can trust you to be there for her.”
He looked down and his jaw shifted, mouth hanging from the scoff he let out. “I know what I did was wrong and I’m very sorry about that, but you moved and changed your number before you even had her so what the hell was I supposed to do?!”
You knew he was right but you hated that he dismissed the reason you left in the first place. This conversation was a bad idea just like you thought it would be and you didn’t want it to last any longer than it needed to. You stared at him with a deadpan expression and stood up from your seat. He grabbed your arm and sat you back down.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for that to come across so harshly. I just wanted to be there for the both of you and that wasn’t the easiest thing. I know I made some mistakes but I would never leave our daughter like that.”
“My daughter and I don’t know if I can trust that Jae. I don’t want to see her sad.”
“I promise you I wouldn’t want to see either of my girls sad. Give me your number, I can text you when I get settled in and we can discuss this some more.”
It felt like the energy in the earth shifted while you handed him your phone. That “my girls” shit you completely ignored and had no time to fall for one of his tricks. Why did it have to come to this, you not trusting anything he says?
When you got in your car and drove off, tears streamed down your face. In some way you felt defeated like he broke through the defenses that you so effortlessly built. It was scary, him reentering your life right after your daughter mentioned the parent event at school.
A week passed and you had forgotten all about parent’s day until the morning of when Mia told you “not to forget to tell daddy to come”. She never worried about this man before or maybe you were so stuck on keeping him away that you didn’t notice how much she wanted him around.

Jae: Hey, I just wanted to ask if you could send me some pictures of Mia? I don’t want to go crazy and ask for all of them, but I wanna see her from day one.
You stared down at the text and then looked at the date. According to him at the cafe, he should be here next week and you knew he’d want to see her. You also knew that if you told him about Mia’s flower for him, he’d be over asap. Not yet you thought. Him meeting her would have to wait until he got here and until you were ready. For now, pictures would have to suffice.
Jae: She’s so gorgeous 💕
Jae: She looks a lot like you I think but she definitely has my dimples!
The comparison made you sick. You knew it was his kid but you tried not to see his side of it. Fuck, this was gonna end so badly, you could feel it. One more week, one more week before you had to deal with whatever he threw your way and truthfully you weren’t ready to catch it.
It was time to pick up Mia and attend the parent’s day event. You walked inside the classroom and smiled at all the other parents and teachers that you passed by. Seeing all the couples made you realize just how single you were and you lowkey wished Jaehyun was here to make it not feel so awkward.
Mia’s eyes lit up when she saw you and ran over with your flower in one hand and his in the other.
“Did daddy come too?!”
You chuckled awkwardly and shook your head. She looked up at you for a few seconds before bursting out into tears, shocking you and everyone else in the classroom. You quickly picked her up to shush her but her feelings were hurt and you would be trying to comfort her for a while. Your poor baby, you hated doing this to her but she didn’t know how scary the whole situation was.
Maybe it was only scary for you and she would be just fine with everything if he decided to leave again. You missed him. His presence, his laugh
his dick. The relationship was going so strong and one small mistake messed it all up. Boys are so stupid you said to yourself while you rubbed her back and fought the tears building up in your eyes.
He never told you what day exactly he would be here but when the next week hit, your anxiety increased tenfold. He probably felt so good about himself for knowing you anticipated his call, text or even seeing him in the cafe again. You actually hadn’t seen him since the last time and you guessed it was because he had a few more things to sort out before he moved.

You looked down at your phone when you heard the notification. His name shines brightly on your phone and your palms get sweaty.
Jae: Hey Y/N, I just finished moving all my stuff in. I wanted to take you and Mia out to the park this weekend if you weren’t busy.
There it was. The time you knew was coming but still didn’t fully prepare for. He was once again taking control of the situation and you detest not being able to gain it back.
You: Hey Jae, sure what time and which park did you want to meet at?
He turned his read receipts on for you, so you knew he checked your message almost immediately. He gave you a time and place and said to also let him know if you were down for lunch. You felt the slight warmth in your heart, feeling like you did back when you used to date. This is exactly what you didn’t want to happen. You didn’t want your feelings for him to come back just because he was around again because you knew it would cloud your judgement.
If he messed up again, you would have the pleasure of telling him “I told you so” which gave you something to look forward to. When you got home and told Mia that "daddy wanted to see her", she almost went through the roof with how high she jumped. She even went to school and told all her friends about it. You had never seen her so excited for something and you hoped he didn't let her down.
When the weekend approached, you stood in front of your mirror staring at your outfit for too long. In reality, you weren't really looking at your outfit, you were stuck in another daze not mentally ready for what the day had to bring. You chose something between casual and cute just in case the park got you dirty. An oversized argyle sweater tucked in a pair of light blue jeans. As for your hair, you settled on some loose curls.
"Come on mommy, let's go see daddy!" Mia was already by the door putting on her shoes.
"Are you sure you're ready to see daddy?" you spoke to her as you straightened her clothes and added bows to her two pigtails. If she said no, you would have made up any excuse for her, but seeing how she couldn't sit still while you added her accessories meant that her backing out wasn't an option.

Jae: I'm omw there now, it's not too far from me so it won't take me long.
You: Okay, we're otw too.
You took your last deep breath before walking out the door. When you stepped out the car with Mia, she immediately ran over to get on the slide. You took a seat on the bench across from her, keeping an eye on her around all the other kids. You watched her aimlessly, thumbs twiddling as you waited.
"Hey."
You turned to see Jaehyun walking up to you with a bag in hand. He was dressed in a plain black tee covered by a burgundy cardigan, black jeans and black sneakers. God he looked so good, why did he have to be so damn fine?
"Oh hey." you smiled and waved lightly.
He sat next to you on the bench, knees touching.
"I brought Mia a gift. I'm not really sure what she likes but she always had a bear with her in her baby pics, figured she'd want an upgrade." He reached into the bag and pulled out a small plush rabbit, something you knew Mia would love. He reached in for something else, and pulled out a small box, handing it over to you. "I got you a little something too."
You raised both your eyebrows in shock and grabbed the box from him. You opened it to see a spa voucher for a full body massage and under it was a small dainty necklace with a single diamond on it. You loved simple jewelry liked this and apparently he remembered.
"Oh that's so thoughtful of you Jae, I really love it. Thank you."
He look relieved that he properly guessed what you'd like as a gift. He opened his mouth to say something but got cut off by Mia.
"Daddy! Hi daddy!" she came running over to you both when she saw him sitting next to you.
Your heads shot in her direction and you looked over at him, the biggest smile spread across his face. He opened his arms and she crashed into the hug as he picked her up and sat her on his lap.
"Hi Mia! I'm so glad to see you, you look so pretty!"
"You look pretty too daddy, I'm so happy you came! Since you didn't come to my school, I'm going to give you your flower now!"
He looked over at you confused and you felt guilty for not telling him about the special day. She reached into her bag that sat next to you and pulled out the paper flower similar to the one she made for you. His face brightened and he leaned over to grab it.
"Wow Mia you did such a great job! Daddy has something for you too!"
Her face lights up and she jumps up and down. "Daddy has a gift for me mommy!" You laugh at her excitement and nod your head. She squealed and spun around with the rabbit he gave her and thanked him multiple times in a short minute. She went over to hug him again and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you daddy! She's my favorite!"
He laughed and rubbed her head before she sped off, back to whatever kids she made friends with.
"It's kind of unbelievable."
"What?" you didn't know what he meant but patiently waited for his answer.
"I can't believe we have a kid together and she's already this big. 5 years seems like such a long time."
"It is. A very long time actually." You caught a lump in your throat when you were forced back to the reality of the situation. Seeing him and Mia interact so well together makes you wish you could turn back time and start things off on a better foot. Jaehyun was a great guy and you knew that, but you couldn't forgive him for his immaturity back then.
You sat on top of the toilet, hands shaking and eyes watery looking at the positive result on the pregnancy test. You didn't mean for this to happen and didn't think it actually would happen. It's not like you and Jae never fucked raw, but his pullout game was usually top tier. You both got too caught up in the moment and he came in you with no hesitation. You thought everything would be fine since you immediately went to the bathroom, but the double lines staring back at you told you a different story.
You were scared, not because you didn't want a baby with him but that was a plan you made for years down the line. You were both freshmen in college and this would ultimately throw a few wrenches in both your plans. You knew he would be understanding though and that helped ease your mind some.
You: come over after the game, we gotta talk
Jae: 👀 uh oh babe, don't scare me like this. Is it bad?
You: not exactly...
You: just come over when you're done
There was a knock on your dorm door within the next 10 minutes and you know he stopped the game of basketball he was playing with his friends for you. Your feet dragged you to the door and you opened it, Jaehyun out of breath on the other side. His shirt was missing and sweat dripped off his body.
"What's wrong baby? Is everything okay?" he asked walking in and closing the door behind him.
You hated that the moment couldn't be better than you telling him in the living room of your slightly run down dorm. You grabbed the test out the pocket of your red pajama shorts and held it up so he could see it.
"Jae, I'm pregnant."
His eyes grew to the size of tomatoes as everything sank in and he stood there stiff as a board. You were starting to get nervous when he didn't say anything and wasn't really sure how to handle his reaction.
"Jae say something, you're scaring me..."
"I-oh my god...I mean baby I'm so happy but this is just so sudden."
"You came in me last month Jae, there was always a possibility. And you don't really look happy."
"I know baby, I know, I just didn't think it would actually happen." He pulled you into a hug a rubbed your back. "I'm happy for us, I really am and I know you'll be a great mom."
This all came as a shock to you too so his reaction wasn't far fetched. Everything that followed after is what surprised you. He barely ever spent time with you anymore and he was always out sneaking drinks with his friends. Jaehyun was never a fan of alcohol but the news of your pregnancy seemed to unleash a new side of him and you hated it.
One night a friend of his texted you to come get him because he was so drunk and feeling up on every girl at the party. It was disappointing and embarrassing, his behavior was outta control and he never had an explanation for it. You got to the party and saw him hugged up on some random girl who was taking advantage of the attention. You went over and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Ooooooooh, hey babe. I didn't know you were invited." His eyes were droopy and he slurred every word. He grabbed around your waist from the couch he sat on and leaned his head against your stomach.
You pushed his head off and dragged him by the arm, pulling hard as he resisted.
"Get the fuck off me! Why are you trying to ruin this for me?"
The words came out harshly and you couldn't help but think he wasn't talking about the party when he said "ruin". Most people stopped to look at the fight brewing between you and Jae, and you felt the heat rise in your face. Tears threatened to fall when he shoved you away again and walked off, leaving you to stand in the crowd by yourself.
It was that night you made up your mind that he wouldn't be the partner you thought him to be and you had to move on without him. That's the night the messages were exchanged and you changed your number not long after, not waiting to hear whatever shitty excuse he came up with.
As you sat on the bench with him looking at the daughter that formed from you two, you wanted things to be different. You wanted to be able to lock your fingers with his and know that he was going back to a home you shared.
All of it was as true as a pig flying. As if being able to feel the shift in energy from you, Jaehyun looks over and watches how you watch Mia in a daze, eyes showing sadness he’s never witnessed. He wanted to pull you in for a hug, kiss your forehead and rub your back but he knew the reason behind that sadness was him.
He hated what he did to you and how he acted. Everything was just so sudden and truthfully it scared him. The idea of being a dad but the expectation of being a GOOD dad. He was fucking terrified and he made the wrong decision of trying to drink and party his fears away.
Before he could apologize you were already gone. Dropped out as if school no longer mattered, or most importantly, him. He loved you more than words could describe and he messed it all up, possibly never having the chance of getting it back. Not being able to handle the sorrow you tried to conceal, he suggested you all went for lunch since Mia had been playing continuously for the hour you had been here.
“Come on Mia, let’s go eat with
let’s go eat.” you stopped yourself from referring to him as “daddy” simply because you’re not sure how long this relationship would last and it would feel weird calling him that all of a sudden.
Mia runs over and grabs Jaehyun’s hand and looks up at him with a wide smile. He looks down and returns the smile and tightens his grip. He looked good as a dad and it was something you never doubted, just unfortunate circumstances that made you think otherwise.
“You guys can ride with me and I can just bring you back here to your car when we’re done. Is that okay?” He looks at you as he stands at his car, hand resting on the roof of the driver’s side.
Before you could speak, Mia shouted excitedly that she wanted to ride with him so there was no way you could say no especially since you weren’t ready to have him be alone with her.
He smiled and jogged over to the passenger side where you thought he’d be opening the door for Mia but opens your door instead. You turned around to thank him as you got in, but he was already buckling her in the backseat. It felt weird not being the one to drive around wherever you needed to go but it felt nice at the same time. Being a passenger princess eased your mind some and you felt like a chore had been crossed off your list.
“Everyone buckled in?” He hopped into the driver’s seat and looked in the rearview mirror at his daughter before looking at you and you give him a nod.
You kept your eyes on the road as best as you could but they would occasionally slide over and watch him drive. You rolled your eyes for constantly letting his looks distract you. You couldn’t help but notice how much more toned his body seemed under his clothing, and remembering how your nails would dig into his back while he roughly thrusted into you.
Ugh. You clenched your jaw and shooed the image in your head away, sitting in silence for the remainder of the ride. When he pulled into the parking lot, his arm instinctively reached behind your seat to boost him up high so he could see as he parked. You didn’t expect to blush so hard, but having him this close and smelling his cologne had you sidetracked.
“Daddy you’re a good driver, I’m going to drive like daddy when I get big!” Mia exclaims when Jaehyun opens her door and unbuckles her.
He chuckled and smiled as he picked her up, “Thank you baby, daddy will teach you okay?”
He carries her to the door of the restaurant and opens it for you. When you enter, you can feel his eyes watching you. After sitting down and ordering, there was a slight awkward silence besides the few times Mia would think of something she wanted to tell him. You and Jae ordered pasta and Mia wanted a sandwich.
"Daddy can you cut my sandwich please? It's too big." She pouted as she pushed her plate closer to Jaehyun's side of the table.
"Mia, honey you have to do some things yourself
”
He waved his hand dismissing whatever you just said. “No it’s okay, I’ll cut her sandwich for her especially because she asked very politely, good job Mia.” He patted her head and grabbed her plate.
Just watching their interactions showed you just how much Mia is falling in love with being around him and you can’t help but want to cry. You want this relationship between them to work, you don’t want her to feel the sadness you did. A part of you also wants you and Jaehyun to work but you brushed it off as a rekindling feeling because you haven’t been with anyone like this in a long time.
“How’s your food? I saw this place had good reviews so I’m hoping it lives up to the expectations.”
“Oh, it’s actually really good. I’ve never been here before so it felt nice to try somewhere new.”
“Oh really? How come you’ve never come here?” He leaned forward, chin resting in the palm of his hand, attentive and ready to listen.
You stared at him for a second. Gosh he’s so gorgeous, you see why you started dating him in the first place. But it was this moment now, the way all his attention was focused on you that made your heart flutter and you suddenly felt 19 again. He had always been so good with listening to whatever problems you had and never made you feel like you couldn’t talk to him. You missed that and with the lack of friends in the past few years, it felt good to have an adult to hang out with.
Being a single mother made you have to put in the extra work so you never stopped to make friends. It was your fault but it didn’t help knowing that you were only overworking yourself to keep your mind off of him. You wanted him to hug you, hold you tight and tell you everything was okay. That all the years you spent apart were worth it and necessary.
“Uh, I don’t know. I guess I usually just don’t have time for myself.”
“You don’t hang out with your friends?”
You smiled awkwardly. “I
don’t have any friends. I’ve been working a lot since Mia was born, so I don’t really have time to make friends. And I also don’t have a babysitter nor would I trust a random person to watch her.”
Although he tried to hide it, there was a gloominess in his eyes as he listened to you. "I understand and I'm sorry you went through so much. I'm serious when I say I will always be here for the both of you no matter what. I lov-I care about you and Mia so much and would never do anything else to hurt you. I promise." He grabbed your hand that rested on the table and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
You caught how he almost said he loved you. Did he really or was he just saying that to make you trust him? The feeling felt foreign after so many years and you weren’t sure how to handle it.
“I had fun today daddy!" Mia rushes over to hug him and he picks her up and squeezes her tight.
"Aww I'm so glad you did, daddy had fun too. I'll come see you and mommy again soon okay?" He put her down and watched her run back to you. He walked over to hug you also, hesitating a bit but went through with it when you didn't back away.
It was more like a side hug because he didn't want to make you uncomfortable, but it was a hug nonetheless. You surprised yourself letting him get so close but even with the 2 seconds his arm wrapped around you, it felt so nice to be in his arms again. He was softening the walls you built up and it made you feel stupid for letting it happen so quickly.
"Thank you for taking care of her for so long, you're such a good mother. I'm going to keep my promise to the both of you, I'm very serious about this. You have my number, so don't hesitate to call me and ask for anything. I'm right here and from now on I will always be here."
You bit on the inside of your lip and focused your gaze toward the ground. You weren't sure if you wanted to slap him then hug him or just hug him. You waited this long to have someone by your side to make you feel like you weren't alone in all this but it still made you feel so uneasy, and truthfully it was stressful. You were going to trust him this time and see where it got you, already preparing yourself for the worst.
In the next few weeks, he kept in touch to either check on you and Mia or to ask if you needed anything from him. You were growing soft to him, falling in love with him all over. You felt like you were finally getting the attention you'd been missing all this time and it felt weird knowing it was coming from him.
Today, he was coming over to help with grocery shopping. You told him he didn't have to but he insisted on helping and carrying the groceries in the house so you wouldn't have to move a muscle.
"That's what I'm here for" he said when you told him you'd been doing it by yourself this whole time. "You don't have to worry about that type of thing anymore with me here."
Shopping went well until some jerk decided to hit you with his cart because you stood in front of something he wanted.
Jaehyun went over and shoved him on the shoulder. "What’s wrong with you man?! You couldn't just say excuse me?!"
The man went to shove Jaehyun back but he slapped the guy's hand away before it connected. "Maybe tell your stupid girlfriend to read the room and not stand in front of stuff, asshole."
"Hey man, watch your mouth around my daughter and don't talk about my girl like that.” He took a step closer to the man. “You better apologize before I fuck you up."
A blush painted your cheeks hearing the conversation between the two men. You looked over at Mia whose lip was pouting as she tried not to cry. You hurried to the front of the cart and hugged her against your chest to shush her. They argued continuously and you saw Jaehyun's hand ball into a fist. You went over and rubbed his arm to hopefully ease his anger.
"Jae it's not worth it, people like him don't deserve your time.”
His jaw clenched and his fist unclenched. He goes to turn around and the man says one last thing to tip Jaehyun over the top.
"Yeah man listen to your girlfriend, she's a keeper. If you don't fuck her, I will."
Jaehyun turns around and punches the man in the face, causing him to stumble back against the shelves. Both you and Mia scream and you stop Jaehyun from landing another punch. Security comes to further break up the fight and ask about what happened. Thankfully there were witnesses who vouched for Jaehyun and the guard let him off the hook while escorting the belligerent man out the store.
Jae went back to pushing Mia in the cart and thumbed away her drying tears. "I'm so sorry Mia, daddy didn't mean for you to see him that way. He doesn't like for anyone to say bad things about his girls." He looked up at you and offered an apologetic smile.
Back in the car, you noticed his knuckles slightly bruised as his hand rests on top of the gear shift. You looked up at him and could tell he was still slightly annoyed by the situation from earlier. You placed your hand on top of his and his expression softened.
"Thank you for earlier, for protecting us. I don't want you getting yourself into trouble over anything like that though."
"Y/N I know, I'm sorry. I just couldn't handle him talking about you like that."
"Jae...I'm not even your girlfriend though."
"You're special to me and the mother of my child, so it doesn't really matter." he says as he backs into your driveway. He looks back at you, slightly leaning onto your armrest. "Don't ever think that someone will be able to talk crazy about you in front of me."
You quickly avoided his gaze and unbuckled your seat belt. "I have to get her inside so she can eat and get ready for bed, it's late."
He sighed to himself and pressed the button to open the trunk. "Okay I'll get the bags, just get Mia and open the door for me."
He helped you bring in all the bags and even put the groceries away. This was his first time being in your home and it truly felt odd.
"Daddy, are you going to stay and eat dinner with me and mommy?"
He stopped playing with her and looked up at you, who looked back at him.
"Uh, I'm pretty sure mommy is sleepy baby, maybe another time? You have to get to sleep soon after you eat."
She pouted her lips and looked at you. It wouldn't hurt to have him stay since he was so nice and helpful today.
"No, I'm actually fine and I would love to repay you for your kindness. Stay with us for dinner Jae."
He looked down at Mia and they both smiled. He kissed her forehead and got up to come into the kitchen with you. "Well at least let me help with dinner." He grabbed your waist and slid past you to get to the fridge. "Lemme know what you need and I'll cut, chop or whatever else for you."
For dinner, you made chicken parmesan and caesar salad. He did a lot of the prep work and set the table after. You caught yourself blushing a few times having him stand next to you and from the overall interactions.
"Come on Mia, let's eat!" you had to get her attention since she was fully focused on whatever storyline she made up for her dolls.
"It smells so good mommy, I'm so hungry!"
Jaehyun chuckled and you smiled at her compliments. "Well daddy helped too so you have to tell him that too."
Her mouth formed a small "oh" and her eyebrows stood in shock. "Daddy's a chef!"
You both laugh at her choice of words and get settled at the table, ready to eat. Dinner was a success, everyone had perfectly clean plates and bowls. Maybe it was because you were happy, but dinner just tasted so much better. Maybe you should have him over more often.
"Daddy...do you love mommy?" The sudden question from Mia made both you and Jaehyun quickly look up at her, you almost choking on the drink you were sipping.
"Why do you ask Mia?" Jaehyun is the first to speak up after the slightly long silence.
"Well...you always tell me you love me but you never say it to mommy and mommy never says it to you. But you should love each other because that's just how mommies and daddies are."
He chuckled nervously, unsure of how to respond. He cleared his throat when he felt your eyes on him, waiting to see what he would tell her.
"Yes...I do love mommy. I will always love her so don't you worry okay? Come on, let's go get ready for bed. I want to say goodnight to you before I go."
He got up from the table and took her in the bathroom so she could brush her teeth. You leaned forward, elbows resting on the table. You wanted to pull your hair out. Knowing he still had feelings for you made this so much harder. You loved him too, you know you did and you never doubted it. It was just still so hard to accept that he wouldn't do anything to mess up whatever you had now.
After cleaning the dinner dishes, you went and sat on the couch and opened a bottle of wine you had stored for a few months. You set down your glass and pulled out the cork. You weren't much of a drinker, but tonight you were in need.
You turned around when you heard the door to Mia's room close and saw Jaehyun tiptoeing away from it. He put his finger to his lips to tell you to stay quiet.
"She's asleep, she was so tired." He came around and sat on the couch with you, eyeing the bottle of wine on the coffee table. "Mind if I stay for a drink?"
You shook your head and pointed to the cabinet containing the glasses and he grabbed one before reclaiming his spot on the couch. You both sat in silence having finished your quarter full glasses a while ago. You looked in the direction of Mia's room and looked back at Jaehyun, both of your elbows resting on the back of the couch.
"You mean a lot to her Jae, I can see how much she loves spending time with you."
"What about you?"
The question threw you off guard but you should have expected it after he confessed his feelings at the dinner table. "What about me?"
"Do I mean a lot to you? I know I messed up a lot in the past, but I'm really trying Y/N."
Your eyes met his again and if there was one word that would describe the way he looked at you, it would be genuine. You knew he was telling the truth and you knew he expected an answer.
"I-I...I don't know Jae, honestly this whole thing has been terrifying and I can't help but want to keep my guard up. I've been so alone these past few years that accepting you back into my life scares me so much. I just don't want to be alone again..."
He grabbed your face in his hands and softly kissed your forehead. "I know, I know and I'm sorry. My babygirl didn't deserve that and I really want to make it up to you. Just trust me and let me take care of you and Mia, let me be in your life again. Please."
You felt stuck, stuck in between wanting to hate him and wanting to let him love you, leaning more toward the latter. Perhaps it was the tiny bit of wine in your system, definitely not enough to get you drunk, but enough to give you confidence.
You leaned forward and kissed him, heart beating fast enough to power a machine. When you leaned back, he looked at you with an unreadable expression. The alcohol immediately left your bloodstream and your face burned with embarrassment.
"Jae I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
He pulls you back into the kiss, hand dragging you in by the waist. He put his all into it and you were starting to feel dizzy. The last time you kissed him was before you had Mia, so to say the kiss had your body heating with lust was an understatement.
He tugged at you and pulled you into his lap, your arms immediately wrapping around his neck. His hands were everywhere, never stopping in one place for too long. He slid his hands under your shirt, playing with your boobs for a quick second before tossing the shirt over your head. He broke the kiss and looked at your chest like a kid in a candy store. You wanted to cover them with your hands, but he slipped a hand behind your back to unclasp your bra before you could.
Your breasts fell free and he wasted no time in letting his lips wrap around your nipple. His hand came up to massage the other one and your hands came up to tangle in his hair. After not being with him for so long, you forgot just how much you missed the sex with him. He was always a giver and always made sure you came even if he didn't. Eventually his hands traveled down your back and landed on your hips. He rolled his hips up into you and you both moaned into the kiss.
You reached down between your bodies and palmed him through the pants he wore. He ground up into your hand and you felt just how hard he was. As you began to fiddle with the waistband, he shifted and eased you down onto the couch as he moved between your legs.
"Jae-"
"Shh shh baby, let me take care of you tonight. Let me show you how much I missed you."
He kissed his way down your stomach, placing a kiss on each side of your hip bones. He slipped off your skirt and panties in one go, a string of your arousal sticking to your underwear.
"Fuck, you're so wet..." He bit his lip and dragged a finger through your folds, playing with the slippery mess between them.
He bent down to connect his lips to your pussy. He made a few circles around your clit with his tongue, earning moans from you, before slipping a finger in. You gasped and your hips bucked involuntarily. He moved them faster and faster, holding your thigh down with the hand not in use. You can tell he was enjoying this just as much as you were with his heavy breathing and the way he slightly humped the couch beneath him.
He then used the hand holding down your thigh to rub circles on your clit as his tongue joined his fingers.
“Jae, I’m so close!”
Your legs tried closing but he used his elbows to stop them.
“Cum for me baby, let it out.” The vibrations of his voice sent shockwaves through your nerves.
The simultaneous stimulation sent you over the edge and your toes curled almost cramping your foot. He brought his hand up to his mouth and sucked his fingers clean, never breaking eye contact.
He moved up your body to trap you in another kiss, this time your hand finding a way to his nether regions. You dipped your hands into his pants and into his underwear to stroke his length. He stopped focusing on the kiss for a few seconds and rutted into your hand.
“Jae, please fuck me while my mind is clear.”
He quickly removed everything from the waist down and now you both lay naked on the couch. He tapped his dick on your clit and rubbed it through your folds a few times to get it wet. He eased into you and cursed under his breath. It’s been so long that you forgot just how big he was, stretching you to new lengths but it felt so good.
“Fuck, you’re so big.”
“Did you forget already?” he laughed with his brows furrowed as he concentrated on not cumming too quickly. “Fuck you’re so fucking wet.”
You grabbed onto his biceps as he got balls deep, feeling so stretched and full. You moaned when he started thrusting into you slowly, bucking your hips to match his speed. He grabbed onto your waist and sped up his pace, skin slapping against each other.
“Fuck Daddy that feels so good~” you tried to stop your eyes from rolling back from the pleasure.
“Shit, if you call me that again I might get too rough.”
You looked up at him through hooded lids, his lip caught between teeth as he tried to keep it together. But you didn’t want that, you wanted him to fuck you into an empty headspace. You wanted to forget everything he’s ever done wrong and trust him as he is now.
“Fuck me harder Daddy, don’t hold back.” You wrapped your legs around his waist and you could see the switch in his eyes.
He pulled out of you and flipped you over with ease. Now you laid in a “face down ass up” position ready to take whatever he gave you. He rubbed his hands up and down your body, grinding his dick against your folds.
“Gosh I missed this pussy so much
” He lined himself up and slammed back in making you gasp.
This angle and the speed he chose truly did make you feel like he was fucking your thoughts away. By this time you were basically screaming, not able to make full sentences. He grabbed a handful of your hair and pulled you up as he bent down and whispered in your ear.
“Not too loud, you don’t want Mia to wake up and hear how much of a slut you are.” He tugged on your hair harder and thrust into you harder, your moans getting louder. He landed a slap on your ass and covered your mouth with the other.
“Fuck Jae! I’m gonna cum!” You tried moving your body forward to give yourself some time to breathe, your heart pumping like you were on a treadmill.
The hand over your mouth slid down and wrapped around your throat and he was back at your ear.
“Stop running and take this dick. Let Daddy fuck the stress out of you.” He reached down with his other hand and rubbed harsh circles on your clit. He felt your walls squeeze around his girth and he knew you were close and he wasn’t too far himself. “Cum for me baby, I know you want to.”
“Oh god Jae! It feels so fucking good~”
Your toes were curling, your walls were clenching and your vision was dimming. Your orgasm was approaching quickly and you knew it would be mind blowing. His thrusts were getting sloppier so you knew the way your pussy sucked him in had his head spinning.
“Fuck, where you want my cum baby?”
“Inside Jae, please!” You knew you hadn’t been on birth control in a while but something in you made you feel safe enough to choose the most dangerous answer.
He loved fucking you raw, but getting to also cum inside did something to him. Telling him that seemed to power his thrusts, they were now like he wanted to split you in half.
“Missed Daddy so much you want him to fuck another baby in you?” His hips were starting to stutter, you felt way too good around him. “Fuck, please cum with me, cum all over me baby. God you feel so good around my dick.”
His hand moved from your clit to go up and squeeze your nipple while he bit down on you shoulder. The mixed pain and pleasure pushed you to your orgasm and you squeezing around him pushed him to his, both screaming out each other’s name. He pulled out and watched his cum drip out of you, the sight alone could make him hard again.
Him inching out of you was just as euphoric but your body had no strength to keep itself up for another round. You laid there evening out your breaths with a smile spread across your face. You heard him shuffling around behind you and eventually he came back with a warm towel to clean you up.
He placed gentle kisses down your spine and rubbed where he left a handprint on your ass. “I’m sorry if I was too rough.”
“You were rough, but you know that’s how I like it.” You chuckled and built up enough strength to sit up and look at him. He looked amazing all fucked out and sweaty, you wanted to pounce on him again. “Thank you for helping to ease my mind.”
“I want to do that for you more often, I wanna be your man again Y/N. I’m sorry for everything I said and did to you to make you feel like I didn’t love you anymore. I love you so much and I will spend the rest of my life making sure you know that.”
You quickly wiped the tears that threatened to fall and looked away from him. He pulled you into a hug and rubbed your head and back. You wrapped your arms around him and fully embraced the hug. There was no holding back now, you accepted him and was ready to give him another chance.
“Don’t go, stay with me tonight.”
“Of course baby, I’m never leaving you again.”
Over the next few months, Jaehyun frequented your home, whether it was to run errands with you, drop Mia off from school or just to spend time with the both of you. There were days you also spent nights at his place. The sex was also constant. No matter where or when, he would have you bent over or pinned up against something as he slammed into you.
You loved every second of it, having him by your side on the daily again. He often brought you and Mia around his job to meet his coworkers whenever they had events, even making friends with one of the other families who had kids around Mia’s age. He showed you off like an art piece, one that only he possessed. You were his to keep and everyone else barely had the privilege to look.
“Hey baby mama, so the office is having a party to celebrate the collab of our international partnership and I want you to come with me.” He stood behind you with his arms wrapped around your waist, peppering kisses on your neck as you stood making your cup of tea.
“Haha ew Jae do not call me that. Of course I’ll go baby, when is it?” You turned around and wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him.
He sighed happily. “I will never get tired of your kisses babygirl. It’s next week and it starts at 8 and I know you’re worried about a babysitter for Mia, but Tracy said she could watch her because she didn’t want to go.”
It didn’t hurt to let her watch Mia, this would be the first time you and Jae did something together without her. You thought about it for a few seconds more then nodded your head. He smiled brightly and kissed you again.
The venue was classy and you understood why Jaehyun told you to get so dressed up. You didn’t have anything to wear so he took you shopping the day before to get everything you needed. With him by your side, you felt like a billionaire. You wore a long black draped collar dress that was made with a sparkly fabric, a slit going up your right leg.
Jae loved it on you, bending you over in it when he came to see it on you in the dressing room. Speaking of him, he wore a plain black suit with a matching tie and white button down. He looked good and with the way his hand kept rubbing your ass, you knew he’d take you somewhere later to fuck you.
Everyone commented on how great you two looked as a couple as you walked to your table. The event wasn’t very long so there were only standing tables with drinks and small hors d’oeuvres. His boss stood in the middle of the large open space and tapped the microphone to get everyone’s attention.
“First and foremost I’d like to thank everyone for coming. Today we celebrate the long awaited partnership with Korea in order to expand our company. It is thanks to all of you that we were able to achieve such a wonderful thing and hopefully we continue to grow.” He turns to look in the direction of you and Jaehyun. “We have also gathered here today for something else special, so if you would all please turn your attention this way.”
You were confused and when you went to turn and ask Jaehyun what was going on, you looked down and saw him on one knee. Your eyes widened and you covered your mouth with your hands. You blinked back as many tears as you could while he spoke.
“Babygirl, I know we’ve gone through some rough times, you more than me, but I’m going to continue to keep my promise to you and Mia for as long as I live. You are my sunshine, my rock, my everything and I love you so much. You are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, not as your boyfriend but as your husband. Y/N will you marry me?”
There was no fighting off the tears this time and you nodded your head as you continued to say yes. The whole room filled with cheers as he placed the ring on your finger and stood up to pull you into a kiss. You hugged him tight and his hand rested on the small of your back.
“Yay mommy and daddy are going to get married!”
Shocked, you turn around and see Mia all dressed up. You look up and see Tracy waving at you from the other side and you wave back. Jaehyun picks Mia up and holds her between the both of you.
“See, daddy told you he would love mommy forever.”

bad for business
summary: steve’s good for your heart but he’s really bad for business word count: 4.5k a/n: me every time i post after being mia for months: who’s missed me! this was technically supposed to be inspired by bad for business by sabrina carpenter and then suddenly it wasn’t. not even sure there’s much of a plot but alas! also feel a little rusty at this right now, it’s been a while since i’ve really written anything but i’ve missed steve a crazy insane amount. love you, miss you, hope you all enjoy this <3
You’re late. You’re never late.
The bell above the door to Dottie’s jingles as you hurry inside. Your fingers work on muscle memory to tie your apron around your waist as you slide through the mismatched seating arrangements inside the diner to get to the back office.
You’re not sure if the way your stomach flips is from it being full of a single gulp of coffee or because it’s more than an hour past when you should’ve been here. The time punch on your card reads 9:07 am and your stomach lurches. Definitely not the coffee.
It’s a Sunday, arguably your busiest day in the diner and arguably the worst day for you to show up like this. No doubt Dottie has noticed but you’re hoping against hope that she didn’t. God, what are you going to tell her?
Sorry Dottie! My super hot, super charming boyfriend wouldn’t let me out of bed this morning! Won’t happen again!
Your face feels warm, like you’ve just spent an extensive amount of time in the sun in the middle of July. You knew you shouldn’t have stayed over last night, but you were so tired and Steve’s couch is way more comfier than yours. It really doesn’t help that his bed isn’t any different.
“Lots of traffic this morning?” you jump, notepad falling out of your hand. Susan starts to snicker as you drop down to pick it up. There’s a smirk on her face when you rise to full height. Her blonde hair is pulled back into a ponytail and her name tag is crooked on her apron. You’re not sure you’d consider Susan one of your closest friends but you find yourselves pulled together considering she’s the only other young person working here.
“Oh you know
,” your voice rises in pitch and you clear your throat, hitching one shoulder up to your ear in a shrug. “Sometimes you just hit every red.”
Susan’s eyes narrow. There’s only one working light on your usual route to work. Coming from Steve’s adds only two. Not to mention, you didn’t drive yourself today. Steve dropped you off, promising to pick you up at 4 on the dot when your shift ended. Susan pops her gum in her mouth, not convinced with your fib.
“Right.”
“Yeah. Now if you’ll excuse me, Cliff is waiting for me in his usual booth,” you hurry past before she can ask you anything incriminatory. You hear Dottie before you see her, on your way to grab the coffee pot.
“You feeling okay, sweetie? You’re normally here right on the dot. An hour isn’t like you.”
Dottie’s older than most and she’s been running the diner outside Hawkins for a whopping 30 years now. She hangs out behind the counter and loves to chat with the regulars and get to know those just passing through. With rosy cheeks and gray streaked hair almost always pulled out of her face in a bun, she’s almost like another mom with how long you’ve been working here.
You snag the excuse she basically throws you out of the air.
“Had a bit of a rough night, but I’m feeling a lot better now, Dot. Didn’t realize I had overslept until I heard the birds chirping outside. It won’t happen again,” you say.
You didn’t oversleep actually. Whatever natural circadian clock inside of you wakes you up at almost the same time every workday but Steve can be quite convincing when he wants to be. Your heart does a little sigh of his name. Steve. You swallow and try to blink away the image of him.
Dottie gives you a sympathetic smile with a concerned tilt of the head, taking your flustered mannerisms and the way you wipe your palms against the sides of your jeans as lingering symptoms of whatever she thinks ailed you last night. She squeezes your bicep, the press of her mixed metal rings cool against your skin.
“Take it easy today, okay? You let me know if you need anything.”
“Course, Dottie. Thank you,” you give her a smile and grab the coffee pot.
Cliff sits at the same spot every morning. A little booth along the window wall, three down from the door to the diner. He looks a bit rough around the edges, his coat well loved and worn and his hands weathered from years of hard work. He’s worn the same baseball cap every time you’ve seen him and he’s always got a copy of the morning paper open and propped in front of his face.
He spots you out of the corner of his eye and scoots his empty mug closer to the table’s edge. You smile and pour the coffee, leaving enough room for his two packets of Sweet ‘n’ Low to be stirred in.
“Anything new this morning, Cliff?”
You’ve only known Cliff on his own, but you know he used to come with his late wife Winnie for coffee every morning before she passed. He’d summarize the big news and events and she’d do the crosswords on the back. Now, you let him summarize to you and he leaves the paper on the table for you. You do the crosswords on your break.
“Same old, same old. They’re thinking about rebuilding the mall that burned down in Hawkins a few summers ago. You hear anything about that?” He sets the paper down to the right of his coffee mug and grabs two pink packets of sweetener. You watch him tear the paper and pour them in. When he looks at you, you shake your head.
“First time I’m hearing of it. My boyfriend used to work there before it
you know,” you mention, unable to stop the morsel of information from slipping out. A twinkle sparks in Cliff’s eye, a small smile on his face as he diverts his attention back to his mug. The spoon he’s stirring with clinks against the coffee stained ceramic walls.
“Are you ever gonna bring this boyfriend of yours around here so I can actually see that he’s real?” He’s teasing, tapping the handle of the spoon against the rim of the mug and setting it in the gap between the coffee and the newspaper. You roll your eyes but a smile lifts your cheeks.
“I don’t know if that’d be too good for business around here,” you joke.
“And was he the reason you were late giving me my coffee this morning?” He's quick to cover his smirk with the coffee mug as he takes a sip. Your mouth falls agape and you fluster, shaking your head and laughing shakily.
“Ha ha, very funny, Cliff. No, he was not. There was traffic!” Cliff makes a face at this and you don’t blame him. Has the traffic excuse ever worked for living in a small town, you wonder. “And I had a rough night and accidentally overslept, is all.”
He grabs his morning paper again and opens it up. “Whatever you say, sweetheart.”
The rest of the morning starts to fly by in a blur. You recite your favorites off the menu to a couple passing through from Chicago. Refill Cliff’s coffee twice, each time dodging whatever he tries to insinuate about your tardiness this morning. Sneak an extra pancake onto little Sofie’s plate with a wink. The early morning breakfast rush blows through and things start to quiet down.
You’re wiping down the table adjacent to Cliff’s booth. His mug is empty and he’s left the paper for you like usual. The bell rings as he opens the door to leave.
“See you tomorrow, Cliff!” you call after him and he raises a hand in a wave as he walks through the door, thanking the young man that holds it for him.
You have to do a double take as you swipe the paper off the table. It’s not just any young man in passing holding the door, no it’s Steve coming inside Dottie’s. It’s Steve standing at the entrance in his usual Levi’s and a white tee with sleeves that seem to strain around his biceps with windswept hair and a bright smile when he sees you.
There goes your heart again with the sigh of his name. Steve. Though maybe this time you think it was your voice instead, airy and soft. You can’t believe he’s here. It’s nowhere near 4’o’clock. Youïżœïżœre aware of Dottie’s eyes on you behind the counter and Susan’s from across the diner and nearly every regular scattered about as well.
Your knees wobble at the sight of him, the disbelief fading away and giddy smile falling into place as he meets you next to Cliff’s booth. Cliff, who’s standing outside the diner and staring and you worry he might come back inside to hound you and insist you introduce him, but he doesn’t.
Steve wraps an arm around your waist, fingers hot against the side of your stomach through the layers of your apron and shirt, and dips to press a kiss to your cheek in greeting. There’s a rush of a swoon that goes down to your toes, the bulk of it getting stuck in your abdomen and swirling like crazy.
You’re in the middle of a greasy old diner but Steve’s somehow tucked you away from prying eyes and into your own little safety bubble. He’ll be the death of you one day. Your heart’ll just keep expanding until it can’t fit inside your ribcage anymore and has no choice but to explode from adoration and kill you.
“What are you doing here?” you wonder aloud, eyes scanning all around his face, taking in every freckle and crinkle and mole. You pause for a minute on his lips and then you blink and find his eyes. He’s smiling at you, in a way that tells you he caught that and you feel struck by that feeling of being caught in the July sun again. He looks around the diner and everyone’s attention goes back to what they were doing before.
“Thought I’d surprise you! Also, it’s supposed to rain later and you didn’t take a jacket so I brought you one.”
Only then do you notice the gray fabric in his other hand and your heart twists and flips and oh god, you think this might be the moment it explodes. He presses it into your hands, the newspaper crinkling against it.
“What’s that?” he asks as you go to thank him. Your brow cinches for a minute before it smooths in comprehension.
“Oh! Cliff,” you point towards the door he’d just walked through, “one of the regulars, leaves the paper behind for me every morning so I can do the crosswords. A little tradition we’ve got going on.”
“A tradition? Should I be concerned?” He jokes and you laugh.
“Oh, definitely. Cliff’s your biggest competition,” you throw back and now it’s his turn to laugh. A glittering light fills your chest. You glance over to where Dottie is engaged in conversation with a middle aged woman just passing through. She can’t hear you from this far but you drop your voice nonetheless. “No but, he did give me a bit of a hard time about his coffee being almost an hour late this morning.”
At your pointed look and sly smile, Steve winces, fingers pressing a quick squeeze against your side. An embarrassed blush blooms on his cheeks, bridging across his nose. “Right. Sorry.”
“Forgiven,” you lean up to press the quickest flash of a kiss to his cheek. You wrap your arms around the newspaper and jacket, holding them to your chest. “Do you wanna sit for a minute? I can get you some coffee? Although be warned, Dottie might come up and talk to you.”
His arm drops from around your waist and he nods. “Yeah. Yeah, coffee sounds great.”
You smile and motion him into Cliff’s booth. When he sits, he insists on holding onto the jacket and newspaper for you and you let him. He watches you take Cliff’s mug away and walk to Dottie behind the counter to get him a fresh one.
Dottie bumps her hip with yours as you pass and you give her a look. The pot’s nearly empty and you wait the few minutes it takes for it to fill, eyes catching on Steve while you wait. He’s stopped staring and has instead taken interest in the comics in the paper.
“He’s handsome,” Dottie’s voice snaps you back into your senses. You glance at her and she’s got a special look in her eyes to match the smile on her face. You check the coffee pot that’s filling up quicker than normal. But your focus drifts back over to Steve, who senses your gaze and looks over to you and flashes a big grin.
“Yeah,” you sigh, “he is.”
Dottie looks between the two of you and then takes a look around the diner. It’s not the usual Sunday hustle and bustle, post early breakfast rush and the impending rain could be the indicator for that. She's got Susan and Judy’ll be coming in any minute now and Pam right after at 12. When she looks back at you, you’re watching the last few drops of coffee fall into the pot.
“Take the rest of the day,” Dottie says. Your eyes snap up to meet hers over the coffee pot between you.
“What?”
“Go sit and have coffee with that boy of yours and then go home,” it doesn’t sound like a suggestion, more like an order but you look around the diner and hesitate.
“Dottie, it's Sunday. I can’t just leave this early on our busiest day of the week.”
“There’ll be other Sundays busier than this one. And you need your rest after the night you had. We’ll be okay, now go,” she pushes. You bite back a smile as you relent, kissing Dottie on the cheek as you pass with the full coffee pot and two mugs gripped tightly in your other hand. She shakes her head watching you cross back to the third booth from the door.
Steve lights up when you enter his line of sight but his brow furrows at the two mugs held in your left hand. You set them on the table and fill them both with the fresh coffee before setting the pot down on the table. He watches you slide into the empty spot in front of him. The same place you assume Winnie occupied when she’d come here with Cliff.
“Dottie’s letting me off early,” you say, grabbing an almost obscene amount of Sweet ‘n’ Low packets and dumping them into your mug. “Can you hand me a creamer?”
Steve finds himself staring at you, doctoring your diner coffee to how you like it, hearts for eyes and a wistful smile taking permanent residency on his face. When he doesn’t hand you the creamer right away, you look up, only a little confused but mostly amused at the blatant and overwhelming display of admiration across his features.
“Steve?”
He blinks in quick succession and clumsily reaches for a creamer while you giggle and god, it’s killing him that he hasn’t kissed you right yet since he’s been here. You hold out your hand and he sets the mini pod on your palm, your fingers brushing his as they enclose around it with a thank you.
He watches you finish stirring in the creamer, the coffee in your cup now a light shade of brown. You take a sip, both palms wrapped around the mug and your eyes on his when you set it down on the table.
“You look nice,” you say, eyes dropping down to the simple white tee he’s wearing. When you look back up at his face, his smile is cheeky and his cheeks are flushed. It takes an incredible amount of self restraint not to kiss him across the table.
“Yeah? The plain white tee is really doing it for you?” he leans closer over the table, voice dropped just the slightest bit. You mirror his movement almost like there’s a magnet pulling the two of you together. Steve pulls one of your hands into his, weaving your fingers together across the table.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” there’s a flirtatious thrum in your voice that makes Steve grin. His mouth opens to respond, another silly flirty quip back when Dottie appears at the side of the table.
“You kids want anything to eat?”
The sound of her voice sends Steve jumping back against his seat, like he’s 15 and getting caught doing something he shouldn’t be. You lean back slowly, amusement clear on your face and a question in your eyes. Do you?
Steve looks from you and up to Dottie who watches with a knowing gleam in her eye. He starts to shake his head but then his eyes fall back to you and he’s repeating the question to you with his eyes. You consider it for a second and then shake your head slightly which Steve repeats to Dottie.
“No, we’re alright, thanks,” he says and Dottie nods. She grabs the coffee pot but doesn’t move.
“Heard a lot about you
” she trails off and Steve’s eyes widen just a tad.
“Oh! Steve. Harrington. Steve Harrington,” he fills in the blank for her, even reaching out his hand for her to shake.
“Dottie. She talks a lot about you, Steve. Sometimes I don’t even think she realizes she’s doing it.”
You try to cover your face with your one free hand and groan, “Dottie.”
Steve lets out a small laugh and squeezes your hand, always finding it endearing to see you flustered. You slowly move your hand away, to which Steve gives you a quick wink which only makes you want to hide away again like you’re 16 with a crush.
Dottie pulls him into an easy conversation. How is Hawkins? Where’d you both meet? And: Do you have a job? I expect only the best for my girl here, you know. And: you’ll have to come back and have something more than just coffee next time.
By the time she’s finished and gone off to engage with the newest patron in the diner, your coffee’s finished and Steve’s has gone cold. You watch Dottie walk off and when you look back, Steve’s staring at you, soft and kind. His gaze makes you squirm.
“I like her,” he says.
“Uh oh, do I have to worry about having competition now?” you joke and Steve shakes his head with a laugh.
“You don’t have to worry about anyone else, you’re the only one for me,” he confesses, rubbing his thumb against your hand. There’s that feeling like your heart might explode again with a sigh of his name, Steve. Though this time, you’re positive you’ve said it outloud.
“Steve,” you tilt your head, voice soft. He lifts your hand to kiss your knuckles and if you don’t kiss him in the next minute, you’re going to have a problem. As if he can sense it, Steve sticks a five on the table and grabs the jacket he’d brought for you as well as Cliff’s leftover newspaper.
He holds his hand out to you to help you out of your side of the booth and you take it, his palm soft against yours. You make it to the door and then pause.
“Oh! Gotta grab my bag from the back,” you lean up to press a kiss against his cheek. “Meet you at the car?”
Steve nods, squeezing your hip briefly. He watches until you’ve disappeared into the back office before he walks out to his car. You come out not even a minute later, apron off and over your arm and bag hanging off your shoulder. There’s a slight skip in your step.
The air smells like rain, an earthy petrichor that makes things somehow feel lighter. Steve’s leaning against the passenger side, the door already open and waiting for you. When you’re close enough, he hooks a finger through your bag strap to pull it off your shoulder. It gets caught on the crook of your elbow when you reach up to cup his cheeks with your hands.
He’s confused for the briefest of seconds and then your lips are on his and he forgets about the bag on your shoulder. His hands fall to your hips, one of his arms wrapping tight around your waist. Something inside both of you is cheering, finally.
You don’t think you’ll ever tire of kissing Steve. Both of you fit perfectly into the empty spots of each other, as if you were carved from the same stone upon creation. It’s a kiss almost far too explicit for outside Dottie’s diner midmorning on a Sunday but you can’t bring yourself to care. That is, until you need to come up for air.
You pull back, Steve chasing your lips and winning. You’re almost smiling too much now for it to work, your hands sliding from his cheeks to the sides of his neck. This time, he pulls away and your chests rise and fall in sync.
“Been needing to do that since you first walked inside,” you breathe out and Steve lets out a laugh that you can feel reverberate through you. He kisses you again, quick and soft and his hand moves to take your bag off your shoulder again.
“And why didn’t you?” he jests, stepping back enough for you to get into his car. One of your hands rests on the top of it, the other hanging loose at your side. Steve wishes he had a camera on him just to capture you in that moment with the sun hitting you in just the right way, playful adoration in your eyes.
“Because,” you shrug, stooping to get inside the car, holding a hand out for your bag when you’re situated. Steve passes it over and closes your door, jogging around the front of the car to get in the driver’s seat.
“Because
?” he pries, sticking the key in the ignition but not yet turning it. You’re pulling your seatbelt across your chest, turning your head to smile at him as you click the buckle into place.
“Because Dottie might’ve gotten suspicious as to why I was so late this morning,” another pointed look his way and Steve shakes his head, turning the engine over and quickly buckling in his seatbelt. He shifts into reverse, checking his rearview mirror and then slinging his arm across the back of your seat.
It’s like a feast for your eyes. The stretch of his arm, a long expanse of muscle right by your head that carries a strong whiff of his cologne. The swift, smooth, one handed feel on the wheel. You’re staring unabashed, only getting knocked out of your reverie when he responds.
“I’m never living this down.”
He glances at you, his arm dropping from your seat to shift into drive. You lean your head against the headrest and shake it with a smile.
“So what was your excuse then? For being late?”
He pulls onto the street to take you back towards Hawkins, his right hand leaving the wheel and dropping to find your hand. You take the liberty of slotting your fingers into the spaces between his.
“Oh you know. Rough night being sick. Oversleeping. Like something out of Steve Harrington’s playbook for getting out of work,” you tease. He scoffs, sparing you a quick amused glance. You lift your hands to your lips in response, your smile hiding behind the kiss you press to his knuckles.
“And did it work? Did she buy it?”
“Oh, of course. Why do you think she let me off so early?”
Steve looks over at you again and sees the slight smirk on your face. He shakes his head with a slight laugh.
“Wow, you’ve been hanging around me too long. I’m rubbing off on you.”
“Like that’s such a bad thing,” you roll your eyes, turning your head so your cheek rests against the leather of the headrest. A gooey softness melts into your gaze. “You’re one of the best people I know.”
Steve smiles, his cheeks blooming with a slight twinge of pink. He doesn’t say anything, just takes his turn lifting your joined hands to his lips to litter kisses along your knuckles. Your heart goes mushy, such has been the case since you started dating Steve. The mush liquefies, seeping through your body with a shiver when you notice the picture he’s got propped on his dash.
He’s had to have just added it recently. A grainy film capture of the two of you, you think Max must’ve taken it if you remember correctly but you haven’t seen it before. You’re both leaning against the hood of his car, Steve’s arm around your shoulders and your hand lifted to hold his hand that hangs there. A big toothy grin is spread across your face, your head tilted slightly against Steve’s shoulder. Steve’s not looking at the camera though, he’s looking at you with a lopsided smile, adoration spilling out of him clear as day.
“When did you add that?” you ask, pointing at the picture with your free hand. Steve glances down at it and immediately breaks into a smile.
“Just the other day. Surprised it’s taken you so long to notice it,” he replies, looking over at you and then back at the road. You’re about to ask if you can somehow get a copy of your own when he says, “I have a copy for you at home, don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get it before you go back to your place.”
You smile at him, one that’s soft around the edges, a perfect mirror of how you feel. It feels so wonderful to be known and seen by somebody the way Steve knows and sees you. Making sure to get two prints of that picture of you. Bringing a jacket to work for you for the rain that doesn’t arrive until that afternoon as you’re about to leave his house to go back to yours.
He uses it as an excuse to keep you with him for another night, something you weakly protest against because the roads aren’t completely slick yet and you can get home just fine. But he insists, his eyes round and pleading and really you can’t deny that you’d rather stay with him anyway.
Even if it means you’re tired again in the morning and rushing to work. You think being with Steve is a worthy price to pay, you never thought you’d be so glad to be so tired.
And, at least you’re not late this time.

Mom's Scales/ She's Here, I think I know what it's about based on the name alone from what you've told me about your aus and hcs, TELL US MOOREE
Ok so I didn't have a lot of words to give so I made some art

For context: The death of Links mother (only a few months after he was born) is a pretty recurring undertone of my four swords series Color Spectrum. Its effected their dad and Link's relationships a lot...
From their father grieving when Link was little and Link trying to pick up the emotional strain as a kid... to feeling like it was his own fault or like he was a burden due to how "difficult" he was as a teen. A lot of this was subconscious in Link before the manga, but it definitely plays a large role in their dynamics between each link and also each of their relationships with their father.
I can go into more details about this if you like, but that's more of a "What if I exploded and Generational Trauma just Splattered Everywhere" (#14) starring Red lol
anyways, I had this idea that like, links mother (im calling her Mia for now) got some freshly dead privileges esp considering her relationship with fairies and yk, giving birth to the kid with the soul of the ancient hero or whatever.
Point is she wanted a way to be able to come back and protect or aid her little one in some way in the future. Hylia gave her an offer and she took it. And uh-
Also forgot to mention shes Soo autistic <3 which is fun because link (or the linkS) are very autistic and that like??disconnect is what caused SO many issues between them originally, I really feel like links shaky relationship with his dad is overlooked but eh just my opinion
Listen this originally just started out as "lol what if the dragon from the manga was sweet and kind to shadow" but I'd also just finished thinking about how links dads grief paralleled vios and uh-
Well I connected the dots (I forced them together very aggressively while sobbing) and now their mom came back as a half sentient dragon who saw bebe shadow and went "this is mine" and decided to lick his wounds (literally) and teach him how to fight when he was just like... yk being forced to become stronger thru survival
to be clear she didn't mean to like burn down crops and whatever, half sentience and all, but she just wanted to support her new lil monochrome bebe (shadow) and then SHE DISCOVERED MORE IN DIFFERENT COLORS AND WAS ABSOLUTELY THRILLED
(links father is terrified but also mystified by her) and she thinks that this little fella who has been taking care of her babies is very nice to keep alive as well
Also shadow originally named her "Blood Hunter" but in private? When its just her and him? He calls her Mai-Mai because well. Dragons do communicate and her little noises while she took care of lil shadow? Sounded very much like "mai a maiamaimai"
(also I just love the name I stole it from ALBW)
they do reunite after shadow is reborn btw
ANYWAYS HERES HER DESIGN
(thank you @here4dragons for helping me with the anatomy and abse THANK U THANK U THANK U)

Tumblr media
You don’t know what it was that brought you back to that day.
One second you were enjoying your boyfriend’s current hockey game, the next you were in the bathroom staring at yourself in the mirror. Waiting. For what, you didn’t know. Something. Anything. To set you off. To have it begin again. All the words. The scars.
The scars.
They were like physical reminders of all the things he used to say to you. All the “you’ll never be good enough”s and the “why are you the way you are?”s. Even the little things, anytime he told you to settle down, shut up, sit still. You used to bite your nails, but your dad thought that was an issue too.
“Stop chewing your nails, you look like a toddler. Immature and stupid. Wouldn’t be a stretch.” he mumbled the last part, but you heard. Loud and clear.
“I’m going to trevor’s.” You raced to the kitchen table to grab your bag and hurried to Trevor’s house.
You knocked on the door and texted him to let you in. It was around 8:00. You were 17.
He opened the door to see tears welling in your glassy eyes.
“What do you need?”
“Can I just, stay here? For the night?”
“Yeah, we were just about to watch a movie. I’ll ask my mom to let you choose.” He brought his arm over your shoulders and closed his front door.
“Hi cutie! Are you alright?” Julie brought her hand to your face in a greeting as you nodded as enthusiastically as you could.
“What did you want to watch?” she immediately caught Trevor’s gaze and grabbed the remote.
“Mamma Mia?” you suggested. It was summer and you had been aching for a Zegras family movie night.
Julie nodded curtly and selected the DVD from the shelf in their living room.
“Hey kiddo. Popcorn?” Gary sat down and passed you the bowl.
“Thank you, Mr. Trevor’s dad.” You’d called him that since you were little and you didn’t know his name. You practically inhaled the handful and turned to your left to see Ava and Griffin in the kitchen.
“Y/n!” Ava rushed to the couch and immediately wedged herself between you and Trevor. His hand still lingered behind you heads as he rubbed small circles into your shoulder.
That was before it all happened.
Every little comment was like a new open wound. A new knife to slice your self esteem. Everything made it so much worse.
Trevor knew about all of the shit your father put you through. He was always there. At school, when he let you stay the night, sneaking out to go get ice cream when either you or him were grounded, he was your person.
When he moved in with Jack, you moved with him, against your father’s wishes. He disowned you on your birthday over the phone, and Trevor and the Hughes were there for you.
All of this brought you back to your bathroom mirror, and the reflection staring through it.
You looked at your wrists and hands in the mirror. The lines. Creases of melancholy seared into your tired veins.
You glanced at your razor on the glass shelf next to the mirror.
Ten months sober, I must admit
Just because you're clean, don't mean you don't miss it
“I’m home babe!” Trevor called to you from the kitchen, you were assuming.
How long had you been in here?
“Bathroom,” your voice tried to reach him, but failed as it cracked and turned thin.
Your frail voice must have given you away, as immediately after you heard fast footsteps up the hall as Trevor swung the door open, but not in a hurried manner. He examined the counter and you.
“Don’t do it. It’s not worth it, not after you’ve made this much progress.” He enveloped you in a hug and you couldn’t help but crumble into him. Your t-shirt slowly began creeping up as Trevor’s hands traced circles up your back.
“Why did he do it Trev? I haven’t spoken to the man in years and he still haunts me.”
“He’s not here, that’s all that matters. And i’m here, pretty girl. I’ve always got you.” he kissed the crook of your neck lightly as he tapped your hip to signal for you to stand up fully. His arms still wrapped around you, he whispered to the air between you,
“Jump.” but there was nothing romantic about his tone. He was ever sweet and caring in your moments of need.
You wrapped your legs around his waist as he carried you to your shared bedroom. He sat you down on the edge of the bed and nudged your arm up to help you take your tear stained shirt off.
There was nothing sexual about his actions, just you and him. In that moment. A necessary action for the both of you.
Once you were changed into a more comfortable shirt, and Trevor changed out of his game day suit, the two of you laid under the covers, holding each other in exhaustion and love. You had nothing but the latter for him. Love.
Ten months older, I won't give in
Now that I'm clean, I'm never gonna risk it

There's nothing better than a few glasses of wine and being around your best friends when it comes to curing a broken heart. Antonella and Georgina were at Mia's apartment, helping her pack her bags for her upcoming trip to Monaco tomorrow. One thing that both Georgina and Antonella couldn't miss was how quiet yet very heavy-handed she was with her wine pours all evening.
"I see you haven't taken it down," Georgina said from the end of the couch.
Mia shrugged, taking a sip of her wine. "I thought about it, and I want to start over." Mia sighed. "When I was with Mason, he controlled every aspect of my life except work. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing to put myself out there more—with boundaries, of course."
Antonella nodded in agreement, saying, "You deserve to be happy, Mia." Mia returned a small, grateful smile.
Georgina smiled, lifting her wine glass for a toast, and said, "To boundaries." With that, the three friends clinked their glasses together and toasted.
Mia felt a sense of relief wash over her as she made the decision to start fresh. It was scary, but she knew it was the right thing to do. She had spent so long living in fear of Mason's reactions and expectations that she had forgotten what it was like to make her own choices. "Plus, it would make my mom happy." Mia adds, "I just don't know where to start."
"I know who else it would make happy." Antonella teased with a sly grin, causing Mia to blush.
"A familiar Brazilian heartthrob." Georgina grinned, nudging Mia's shoulder. But the atmosphere quickly soured once Anto and Gigi noticed how Mia's face fell at the insinuations of Neymar. "Ok, seriously, Mia, what the fuck is going on?" Georgina huffed as she leaned in towards Mia, her frustration growing with each passing moment. Georgina knew something was off with Mia when she greeted her at the door. Her energy was just off, and Georgina didn't want to make things worse by pushing the topic too much, but the fact that Mia was no longer a blushing mess when her husband's name was brought up was confusing.
Mia picked up the wine bottle from the ground and poured herself another glass. "We had a fight last night." She tells them, taking a sip of the red liquid while trying to compose herself.
"I told you he'd go crazy about you going to see Charles," Georgina said.
"Actually, I still haven't told him about that."
"Mia, you're literally packing, and he still doesn't know?" she asked, her gaze fixed on Mia's face.
"Fuck that she's single; he knows the drill." Georgina rolled her eyes. "It's not like she's cheating on him, Anto."
Antonella raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What did you two possibly fight about?" Anto asked, curious.
Mia hesitated before admitting, "I brought up the annulment and that getting married was a drunken mistake." Mia sighed. "That's how it started anyway."
-
"A drunken mistake?!" Lionel exclaimed, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"She clearly hasn't seen the footage," Sergio replied with a smirk. Lionel shook his head, watching as Sergio aimed and sank a difficult shot into the corner pocket.
Neymar sighed heavily and took a long sip of his drink. "She's right, though we both got out of serious relationships that fucked us mentally," he admitted to his friends. "Maybe pushing this is the wrong call." Sergio and Lionel exchanged concerned glances, silently urging Neymar to continue.
"Please." Lionel scoffed, not believing him for a minute; he knew how much he loved Mia. If anything, Lionel knew that Mia calling it a drunken mistake would crush Neymar, but he knew it was a lie. It was clear that the two of them were hopelessly in love with each other, but they were too stubborn to admit it.
"What else happened?" asked Sergio, sensing there was more to Neymar's confession.
Neymar took a deep breath before continuing, his eyes flickering between his two friends. "That was it, really."
Sergio laughed, patting him on the shoulder, saying, "You're a bad fucking liar."
Neymar couldn't help but smile, knowing that his friends knew him too well. "Okay, fine," he admitted. "She told me that she loved me." Both Lio and Sergio's eyes widened at Neymar's revelation. They had suspected the truth all along, but hearing it confirmed still came as a surprise. "I knew it!" exclaimed Lionel, grinning from ear to ear. Sergio simply shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips.
"So what did you say?" Sergio prodded.
-
"He fucking friend-zoned you!" Her friends exclaimed in disbelief,
"He said that he only loved me as a friend." Mia said sadly, "Nothing more, nothing less," trying to hold back tears. "I guess I just misread his signals."
Antonella couldn't believe that Neymar, of all people, had the nerve to friend-zone Mia, especially with everything Lionel has been telling her. Both she and her husband, Lionel, were certain about how their friends felt about each other, so this wasn't making any sense. Neymar practically begged her to do everything in her power to delay the annulment between him and Mia, all for what for him just to break her fucking heart.
"He's obviously lying, Mia," Antonella said, holding her best friend's hand in comfort while Georgina wrapped her arm around Mia's shoulder. Mia let out a heavy sigh and rested her head on Gigi's shoulder, feeling the weight of all the emotions she had been carrying. She couldn't believe how blind she had been, not realizing Neymar's true intentions all this time.
"I doubt it; I guess your speech about how he lit up whenever he saw me was just bullshit," Mia said bitterly, her voice cracking with emotion. "I can't believe I fell for it. I thought he was different, but he's just like all the other guys who only want to play games with my heart." Antonella and Georgina exchanged a sympathetic look, knowing that there was nothing they could say to ease their friend's pain.
"Everyone sees how he acts around you, Mia; it wasn't bullshit," Antonella spoke up, trying to reassure her friend. "But maybe he's just not ready for a serious relationship right now. It doesn't mean he doesn't care about you."
Georgina nodded in agreement, adding, "And if he's not willing to give you the respect and commitment you deserve, then he's not worth your time."
"I think I loved him before I even knew what that feeling meant." Mia's voice was barely above a whisper as she spoke, tears streaming down her face.
Antonella and Georgina exchanged a sympathetic glance, both understanding the pain of unrequited love all too well. "I'm going to murder him."
-
Neymar's smile faded slightly as he thought back to the moment. "I didn't say anything," he admitted. "I just kissed her." The three friends shared a knowing look, understanding the weight of that action. It was clear that Neymar was in deep with this girl, and they were all happy for him. Neymar shrugged. "I didn't say anything back. I was too shocked."
"Bro, you friend-zoned her?" Sergio asked in disbelief. "After all that, you didn't say anything?" Neymar shook his head, still processing what had happened.
"When a woman says that you love her as a friend, it's actually her asking you if you love her more than that. That was your moment to come clean, not friend zone her, Neymar." Lionel stressed,
"I just didn't expect it," he said with a sigh. His friends exchanged puzzled glances, wondering how he could be so clueless about his own feelings. "I froze. I fucking froze and didn't say anything, and since then she's been distant."
"Well, no shit you friendzoned her." Lionel scoffed, "You missed your chance, to be honest with her, and now you have to deal with the consequences. If you really care about her, you need to talk to her and make things right. Otherwise, you might lose her forever."
"I know," he sighed deeply, "All that was on my mind was everything on her plate." Neymar confessed, "She's got her mom, her business, and that crazy fucking ex to worry about. The last thing I wanted to do was push too hard and ruin everything. So I froze."
Lionel nodded understandingly, saying, "I get it, but sometimes not saying anything can be just as damaging. You don't want her to feel like you're not interested or that you're not willing to support her through everything."
Neymar ran a hand over his bearded jaw, deep in his thoughts. He knew Lionel was right, but the fear of causing any harm was paralyzing him. He had to find a way to communicate his feelings without overwhelming her. "I know, man. I need to be sure, I guess."
"Bro, she's your wife. How sure do you need it to be." Sergio chuckled, "You act all flirty and touchy like a schoolboy when you're around her, and she gives you the chance to make her your for real wife, and you fuck it up."
Neymar rolled his eyes. "It's not that simple, Sergio. I have a lot on my plate right now with my career and everything." "
I get that," Sergio replied, "but don't let your fear of commitment ruin something good. You love her, man. Don't let her slip away."
-
"I say keep fuck him. Go to Monaco with an open mind and heart, and get to know Charles." Georgina said encouragingly.
Mia sniffed, drinking more of her wine. "I don't know, Georgina. I feel like I've been burned so many times that I'm not sure if I have anything left to give." Mia replied, her voice laced with hesitation. "Especially what Kaylin told me after the game."
"Mia, that fucker has it out for Neymar; you literally can't let him be a verified source," Antonella said, joining in the conversation. This was news to her; Mia had not once mentioned ever having a conversation with Kaylin after the game.
"So Neymar constantly cheating on his ex isn't true?" Mia scoffed. At this point, she'd hate to say it, but Neymar's so-called sworn enemy was the only one whoes words were actually the truth. "Or him being overly flirty with brunettes was that a lie too?" she asked, rolling her eyes. "I just don't know who or what to believe anymore. It's exhausting."
"If anything, that bitch was the cheater, not him," Antonella said bitterly at the thought of his ex Bruna. "She was always the one flirting with other guys behind his back. Neymar just got caught up in the drama because he's famous."
Georgina nodded in agreement, saying, "It's hard to know what's true and what's not when it comes to celebrities, but that bitch was always the problem, trust us."
"All he's done is flirt with me, call me his wife, and stir up my feelings, making me think that maybe being his wife wouldn't be such a bad thing," Mia mumbled sadly.
"Which it wouldn't, plus you two would have the cutest babies," Georgina said, trying to lighten the mood.
Mia's eyes widened at Georgina's comment, but she couldn't help but smile at the thought of having children with him. However, she knew deep down that it was just a fantasy and that he would never truly love her. "You can forget about it because, as his friend, I'm going to make sure that this marriage gets annulled so I can marry someone who actually fucking loves me."
-
After Neymar broke the news to his friends, their interest in hanging out and playing pool went out the window. Both Sergio and Lionel had one job, and that was knocking some sense into their best friend. "I'm going to give her the space she needs," Neymar said, taking a drink of his beer. He didn't know what else to do. He already fucked up by not admitting how he felt about Mia at that moment. I guess he felt that maybe if he gave her the space that she was taking, he'd be able to go back in and fix everything.
"You already know Anto, especially Gigi, is telling her something different right now," Sergio commented from his end of the couch. Neymar sighed, knowing that his friends were probably right. But he couldn't help but hope that Mia would eventually come back to him. He took another sip of his beer, lost in thought.
Suddenly, Neymar's phone rang. He scrambled to pick it up, hoping it was Mia on the other end. To his disappointment, it was just his friend Lewis. "Ei Lewis, e aĂ, cara, vocĂȘ estĂĄ no viva-voz."
"Quem estĂĄ com vocĂȘ?" Lewis asked. Neymar glanced over at his friends on the couch and hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Sergio and Gabriel are here with me," he said, wondering why Lewis was asking.
"Bro, I thought you said Mia was your girl," Lewis asked him, causing Neymar to feel a pang of guilt.
He took a swig of his beer before responding. "She is, but we're not exclusive or anything yet. It's a work in progress." Lio and Sergio rolled their eyes knowingly as they listened in on Neymar's conversation with Lewis. Too bad he was too pussy to tell her how he really felt about her to her face. They all knew that Mia was more than a "work in progress" when it came to Neymar.
"I know you told me that, and as your boy, I backed off out of respect," Lewis replied.
"Yeah, and I appreciate it that no one knew who she was to me," Neymar said, grateful for Lewis's discretion. "But I think it's time to take things to the next level with her. I just need to figure out how to do it without messing things up."
"You better get to it because I heard from Russell, who told me he heard from fucking Verstappen, who heard from Pierre that Leclerc invited her to Monaco to watch him race," Lewis explained, his tone serious.
"Monaco? That's a big move," Sergio said, raising an eyebrow. "Looks like you're not the only one interested in her."
"Who are any of those people?" Lionel scoffed, clearly not understanding the references.
"Formula One drivers, Lio, keep up man," Lewis replied, "and Leclerc is one of the best. If he's inviting her to Monaco, it means he's really interested in her."
"How do you know any of this is even true?" Neymar asked, standing from his seat and pacing around the room. "Maybe it's just a rumor." Neymar tried to reason with his friends, questioning its validity, but his nervous pacing around the room suggested that he was secretly hoping it wasn't true. "I wish it was just a rumor," Lewis said, his voice heavy. "He slid into her DM on IG after meeting her in Paris. Called her the other day, FaceTimed all of that, and invited her."
The room fell silent as everyone processed the news. It was clear that Neymar was deeply hurt by the situation. "Ha! He's lying; Mia doesn't even have an Instagram." Lionel spoke up, casting doubt on the validity of the evidence. "Are you sure it was really Mia?" Neymar asked.
"Bro, I saw the messages—don't ask how I got them; I have my ways—she left him on read on IG, but the text is where they were confirming everything for Monaco for this weekend." Lewis remained adamant.
Both Sergio and Lionel wasted no time in needing to see for themselves if one of their most private friends had finally joined the social media world. They quickly pulled out their phones and searched for Mia's Instagram account, but to no avail. They found it. "This reeks of Georgina," Lionel grumbled, looking at the selection of photos on Mia's account. "She's been trying to get Mia to join social media for months now." Sergio nodded in agreement.
Mia was a beautiful woman; they all knew that, but the fact that she was finally posting made Neymar nervous. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of attention she would attract and if she was prepared for the inevitable barrage of messages and comments. Despite his concerns, he couldn't deny that he was curious to see what kind of content Mia would share with the world. So while keeping Lewis on speaker, he hopped on Instagram to find her page.
He scrolled through her feed, admiring the carefully curated photos of her travels and friends. It was a side of Mia that he had never seen before, and he couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at the thought of all the experiences she had without him. Would she post photos of her and that fucker Charles before him?
"Why is she not following me?" Lionel scoffed in disbelief, saying, "This is definitely fucking Georgina's work."
"All I'm saying is that you might think she's your girl, but she's single until you claim her publicly," Lewis said from the speaker of Neymar's phone, causing him to sigh, realizing that Lewis had a point. Neymar couldn't keep assuming that Mia was his without making a public declaration. Hell, she wanted him to admit it to her the other day, and he fucking choked. "Thanks for letting me know, man," he said before hanging up the phone.
"Still think not being honest was the best thing?" Sergio asked, raising an eyebrow as he watched Neymar's expression. Neymar shook his head, feeling a sense of regret wash over him. He knew he had to make things right with Mia and publicly claim her as his girlfriend-wife, or whatever before someone else did.
"I guess I'm going to Monaco," Neymar smirked.

nct and pet names
pairing ▾ random!nct members x reader (yuta, ten, jaehyun, renjun, jaemin, chenle, riku, sakuya) author's note ▾ i was inspired by another post, but wanted to go for a more realistic feeling, especially towards the foreign idols. enjoy my brainrot. also there needs to be more wish content on here i beg
Tumblr media
yuta - naishinno
this man would definitely call you ‘gorgeous’, ‘divine’, or ‘princess’. but he’d prefer and be more comfortable to say such words in his native tongue. he also found out how much you enjoyed hearing him speak japanese, so sometimes on purpose he’ll sneak up behind you and whisper, “naishinno
'' (meaning princess in japanese)  startling you but also making your ears turn pink. yuta also has no problem with using the pet name within earshot of others, and as much as you protest, he assures you that no one really understands.
ten - mi mi
hear me out guys. hear me out. ten our beloved cat mom would definitely call you something relating to cats. he’s not calling you “kitten” because um that’s kinda cringe
but he would go for something cuter. “mao mi” is the chinese word for cat, (I KNOW HE'S THAI. BEAR WITH ME OKAY) and people usually refer to kittens as “mi mi” (it’s like the most basic name an owner can give to their cat too) most of the time, nicknames are usually duplicated characters, and mi mi is also a very common nickname for girls. it also means ‘tits’. so ten decided that was the best nickname in the world and he was an absolute genius for coming up with it, and so now you’re stuck with being called his “mi mi” for life. good luck.
jaehyun - cara mia/mi amor/ma cherie
jaehyun LOVES pet names. it’s a rare feat if he ever calls you by your first name. ‘sweetheart’, ‘darling’, ‘honey’. he uses them all. but jaehyun is a classy bitch, and he likes to keep things fancy, so his favorites are using different languages, just because it somehow sounds more expensive and full of taste and that’s exactly what he feels you deserve. some of his favorites include: “cara mia” the italian words for ‘my beloved’; “mon amour” & “mi amor” the french and spanish words for ‘my love’; and finally, “ma cherie” the french words for ‘darling/sweetheart’. (stream mon amour by gemini guys)
renjun - qin ai de/qin qin/lao po
okay yes renjun is using chinese, but not straight away into the relationship. let’s get that cleared up out of the way. he’ll initially start with ‘my dearest’, and uses his sweet voice to his advantage. “qin ai de y/n, could you do something for me real quick? pretty please?” but eventually as the relationship progresses on and he feels more comfortable, he’ll start dropping the “lao po” (‘wife’ in chinese) on you, which initially comes as a culture shock, because you haven’t even thought of getting to that stage yet. renjun teaches you of how common it is in china for non-married couples to call each other husband and wife, and even teaches you how to say ‘lao gong’ (husband)
jaemin - pookie
once jaemin discovers this word it’s joeover for you. one day you accidentally call him, ‘pookie’ to his face (which is what you would often use when referring to him around others) and he is so intrigued by the word he demands an explanation as to what it means. and when he realizes it’s true purpose, it’s true meaning, he’ll be taking that word to the GRAVE. and this brat uses it EVERYWHERE. on text, in person, in front of your friends. he will never spare you the pain and embarrassment. but he just wants to let you know how much he loves you, truly. his pookie <3
chenle - bao bei
immediately into your relationship chenle throws around ‘babe’ and ‘baby’ like crazy. this man knows what he wants because he quickly found out that if he slurred his words while saying, “bao bei a~” you would fold immediately. not afraid of saying it in front of others because the only one who understands are the c-liners (but eventually everyone catches on) chenle also somehow makes it seem so casual and natural. ‘bao bei’ also directly translates to treasure, and he’ll occasionally add in a ‘xiao’ (little) at the beginning when praising you or giving you compliments.
riku/sakuya - pan-san
I was originally just going to do riku, but figured i’d just shove these two together, but mostly write about riku.
sakuya and riku both like bread, the only difference is that while both want to work at a bakery, sakuya cannot cook to save his life and riku can actually bake. these two actually share so much in common it's actually insane, for one being absolute shits in general. regardless, ‘pan’ means bread and ‘pan-san’ is actually so cute and it rolls off the tongue really well. (i was originally going to say ‘pan-pan’ but a quick google search said no.)
although riku enjoys teasing you, he still wants you to enjoy the pet name given to you. ‘bread’ is sweet, it is simple, and it is certainly delicious. literally the best nickname anyone could ever have and you should be grateful. but you don’t seem as pleased as he is. you have to process that your boyfriend is naming you after bread. not even like ‘cupcake’ or ‘sugar cookie’ or something else, just. bread. but after riku yaps about it for an hour, adding in compliments and phrases, you give in, and allow yourself to be called bread.

I watched Mama Mia 2 Here We Go Again last night with my friend (they bought me the double disk DVD so we have the 1st and the 2nd <3). I loved the movies for so long but I haven't rewatched them for a few years and now I have some Commentary. Below is me listing out the things that bugged me in Here We Go Again.
During the rewatch, I realized that Mama Mia 2 is like an AU of Mama Mia rather than continuing the same story. Like I Love the characters in the 2nd film but that's not my young Donna, and the other characters just aren't quite matching to their present day characters. Yeah- Aging is a thing and growing up means changing over the years but I don't see that in the way they showed them in Mama Mia 2.
(Not to mention they didn't follow the OG story line? Donna's diary not matching the 2nd movies plot line of meeting the men) (also Tonya and Rosie acting like they don't know the men /about Donna sleeping with them all in a relatively short time frame? But they meet Bill and Sam on the island)
Mama Mia is one of my favorite movies (definitely crushed on Amanda Seyfried in any of her movies tbh) and I was so pumped for the sequel but it is not connected to the 1st and it kinda stops me from enjoying Here We Go Again because I want it to follow the OG story and honor that.
Here We Go Again coming out in 2018 is probably the reason for the differences made- specifically the pro-life vibes in it. I could be wrong, I don't want kids ever so maybe it's a personal thing that the importance placed on Sophie being pregnant like Donna was odd to me. Overall the way they frame Sophie being pregnant and having that be a pivotal moment in the film was meant to show 'Ah the joy of a a baby its magic and Nothing Compares'.
Also Cher showing up to be Donna's mom?? THEM DROPPING THAT DONNAS DAD WAS HISPANIC ???? SENOR CIENFUEGOS?? I KNOW THAT STUFF WAS ADDED WAY LATER BUT I FEEL LIKE THAT WOULD BE IMPACTFUL TO DONNA AND HER LIFE BEING 1/2 HISPANIC/ MEXICAN. IM BEGGING FOR CONTINUITY PLEASE.
Love Cher- but hearing her show up and give Sophie shit by saying ' Don't hold a grudge it'll make you fat' ?? Why, just why and then Sophie hugs her later after Cher gives criticism about her performing but saying she's proud after Sophie prompting her to change her answer? Just gives a message of '(Blood) Family is everything and forgives all' that I don't like and was not in the first film? Donna also references her mother in the 1st movie as dead 'Someone has it out for me up there probably my mother'. Donna made it clear throughout both movies the lack of connection she has with her mom and the mommy issues she has. Everyone else in the movies being so open to having her on Kalokairi while they cry over Donna being gone and how much they love her? Sam giving her a hug and kiss despite not likely EVER meeting her before Donnys baptism??
(Also do Greeks do baptisms? I'll look it up but just why so Christian and all the Christian messaging. Sophie grew up on the island and so did Sky? Why no accents, why does it feel like the main cast is only visitors despite the story stating they lived there? Donna was there for 40 years why don't they show the impact beyond design choices??)
Also SOPHIES GRANDMA?? LIKE THE ONE SHES NAMED AFTER - THAT WAS MENTIONED IN THE FIRST MOVIE 'OMG I WAS NAMED AFTER THE WOMAN WHO HELPED MY MOTHER RAISE ME' WITH BILL FINALLY BEING ABLE TO CONNECT IT TO 'OH SHIT THAT GIVES MORE CONTEXT AND I THINK YOURE MY KID NOW'
WHERE IS SHE?? WHY ISNT SHE IN THE MOVIES? OBVIOUSLY DONNA VALUED HER PRESENCE IN HER LIFE, WHY WASNT IT REFERRENCED IN THE 2ND MOVIE OTHER THAN GRANDMA SOPHIA GIVING SAM SHIT FOR LEAVING DONNA / BEING ENGAGED AND TELLING HIM TO FUCK OFF WHILE DONNAS 'WITH THE BIGGEST STUD OF EUROPE' (LIKE THATS YOUR GRANDSON?)
I got a lot of feeling about world building man, that's what can draw me in and I wish they did more for the movie (bits and pieces, it doesn't have to be written out and verbally stated but like, but not even interactions with the staff/neighbors?) I was blind to it when I first watched it but they really don't give anything meaningful to any of the PoC characters despite this literally being their homes with their families. Like WHY DOES SOPHIE DO THE LINE UP THING WITH CHECKING PEOPLES UNIFORMS DURING ANGEL EYES??? Just the distance all of the white Europeans and the Greeks/ overall white savior-Mary Sue 'everyone loves Donna and Sophie' - why is everyone else so servant like?
- I love Harry (the token gay of the show really) and his character makes me sad more after the 2nd movie. In the end sequence/ final song of Super Trooper (with Cher) all the characters are dancing with their younger selves- everyone is having a good time and dancing but Harry is like No I don't dance/ my younger self is cringe? Like part of his development was connecting with Sophie and being one of her Dads / valuing life again and being more than a corporate executive/ banker, 9 to 5 guy. He dances with everyone else but with his past self he's back to 'I'm uncomfortable and a boring man, allergic to fun'? That unravels everything up to that point of Harry connecting with others, his want to be 'spontanteous', his want to be fun and in the moment. (Also Harry in the 1st movie - would Not entertain the idea of missing something of Sophie's -why the hell was he in a board room for 14 hours before deciding to remember how important she is to him??)
Also Sam, Bill and Harry in the Super Trouper number are shown behind the var picking up glasses of beer to come around it and sit on stools while kinda singing? It's giving ' oh haha the Average Dad who likes to sit and watch sports on TV and sit back after long day of work'? I feel like there were so many small things and decisions made to show a conservative version of Mama Mia in Here We Go Again.
It's a fun movie and not meant to be serious commentary of the world but rewatching after the last few years leaves me with a sense of 'its not that great or/ fulfilling characters stories' - I'm still jamming to the soundtracks and talk with others who love the movies but damn I needed to rant.

OKAY, so as a former lit major (with, to be clear, a master's in literature), I have some really fun information to share with the class for this last installment of Daily Dracula.
Now, first thing's first, I'm going to post the section I'm talking about specifically so we can refer back to it more easily. Namely:
In a voice which, though low and almost in a whisper seemed to cut through the air and then ring round the room he said:— "How dare you touch him, any of you? How dare you cast eyes on him when I had forbidden it? Back, I tell you all! This man belongs to me! Beware how you meddle with him, or you'll have to deal with me." The fair girl, with a laugh of ribald coquetry, turned to answer him:— "You yourself never loved; you never love!" On this the other women joined, and such a mirthless, hard, soulless laughter rang through the room that it almost made me faint to hear; it seemed like the pleasure of fiends. Then the Count turned, after looking at my face attentively, and said in a soft whisper:— "Yes, I too can love; you yourselves can tell it from the past. Is it not so? Well, now I promise you that when I am done with him you shall kiss him at your will. Now go! go! I must awaken him, for there is work to be done." ... They simply seemed to fade into the rays of the moonlight and pass out through the window, for I could see outside the dim, shadowy forms for a moment before they entirely faded away. Then the horror overcame me, and I sank down unconscious.
Now there is a Lot to unpack here, and a lot of people have already pointed out the surface layer homoeroticism (I mean, he says "love" outright and clearly means it), but there's some stuff I haven't seen anyone mention yet.
First of all, if you haven't seen it yet, please take a look at this post which shows Bram Stoker's notes on the novel. The important takeaway is that Bram Stoker had one line of dialogue from pretty much the very beginning: "This man belongs to me." It repeats thrice, and well before the characters are more than "Old Count."
What this says to me is that Stoker was, like any of us, writing his novel to write that One Scene that just fucks so hard. This scene was written to be horny. It is meant to be. Stoker wrote this scene with his whole dick in the way of all the horror greats. He's my hero. By this time, Stoker had already at least acknowledged his own leanings (see Stoker's love letters to Walt Whitman, the first of which was written well before he wrote Dracula), so we can guess that he had this image and wanted to see it on paper for himself. (Good for him, and Same.)
Straight audiences would have seen Jonathan's feminization by the narrative and the Count's clearly sexual interest in him as horrifying (cowards), but queers are and have always been queer. And I suspect they all read this scene in the same way we're reading it now. BUT they had an extra bit of info that we've since lost track of.
In the peak of epistolary writing, there was a bit of well-known shorthand. (If you've seen Mamma Mia, this is the equivalent to the "dot dot dot" in the mom's diary from her slut phase.) In epistolary novels, when your heroine is alone with a man, and she says she swoons... She got laid. Now, how far it went, I couldn't say, but this was At Least heavy making out, if not full on sex (I suspect it may have been up for interpretation, but I don't know). My professor pointed this out with a young woman swooning while alone in a carriage with a guy she was kind of seeing. "She says she swooned because this letter is to her father figure, but the audience would have known exactly what she meant."
So Jonathan swoons, and when he wakes up, he is undressed and in his own bed. The readers at the time would have immediately read this as a sexual assault.
For a long time, I was confused by how passive Jonathan is throughout this part of the novel, but he is playing the role of the maiden fair, trapped by the diabolical (and much older) seducer. And then, he is in survival mode as he is assaulted more than once, his virtue stolen before he can marry his beloved.
I mean, God, you have this whole romantic build, the count saves the maiden Jonathan and plans to "awaken him, for there is work to be done." And then Jonathan swoons, and the Count carries him to bed? Not to put too fine a point on it, but... well, it really only makes sense if Dracula DID wake Jonathan up and... made his claim abundantly clear. Clear enough, too, for Jonathan to feel like his "gloomy" rooms are in fact his only sanctuary. And like... Jonathan was undressed by the Count. That really does mean exactly what it sounds like.
So uh. Yeah, after that supremely possessive display and declaration of love, the Count fucks Jonathan (as with all maidens of the time, his consent is... dubious. Would he consent if he were able? We'll never know tbh) and carries him (undressed) to bed. Bram Stoker knew EXACTLY what he was doing, and I hope you all enjoy that fact. I know I will. ;D
ETA: Sources for my information about swooning are in my reblog, but you can also find them here, here, here (this blog post is referred to in more than one article), and here, and this one references this exact scene directly.

All I Want For Christmas
Tumblr media
Pairing: Dad!Ex!Peter Parker x Reader
Summary: After divorcing Peter, Christmases weren't the same, but there's something you both want this year.
Warnings: Smut 18+, fingering, infidelity, some angst but Peter being a dad makes up for it
Word Count: 1862
A/N: hehe this was fun to write, also decided to post before the no way home hype gets even more real. Enjoy! 💕💕💕
The long row of the same style of brownstone never bore you, all similar, yet when it came to the holidays, you could tell each one apart. From the ones that hung Christmas lights over each inch of the house to the ones that felt empty and dark even under the twinkling snow that laid on the sidewalk.
But none of those mattered as you shut the door of your boyfriend’s car, eyes set on the black door that had a single wreath hung on it. Simple. Didn’t draw too much attention. Something your ex always avoided. After all, it’d be dangerous if people found out where Spider-Man lived.
You trudged up the steps, thankful that they were salted. The hard rocks rub against the sole of your boots, bringing you the ease of security, something you needed these days. You were pressing your gloved fingers against the doorbell.
The cold weather caused your breath to be foggy, your teeth shuddering as you hid your face in the scarf wrapped around your neck while you waited for the door to open. Even with your ex’s superhearing, knowing he heard you just as you were making your way up, he seemed to take his time with coming to the door, the snow falling a lot heavier.
Reaching to ring the bell again, the door abruptly opened to reveal your sweet eight-year-old girl, Mia.
“Mom!” she hugged you and you sighed in delight. “You missed out on so much fun today!” she exclaimed, pulling you inside. “We had a gingerbread contest and I won, Dad made hot chocolate and we watched Home Alone! AND he let us open the gifts he got us!” she dragged you through the house, the pompom on her Santa hat bouncing around.
The wrapping paper littered all over the floor in the living room right under the tree made you squirm, along with all the junk food spread around the coffee table right in front of the tv.
“Don’t worry, I made sure they ate all their vegetables during dinner,” your ex-husband, Peter, came through, holding onto a five-year-old, Gracie, in his arms. Her little Santa hat on her head.
You made eye contact with him, noticing that he was wearing a matching hat like the girls. It made your heart warm and clench at the same time.
“I’m glad you all had fun, but now it’s time to go,” you smoothed your hand over the top of Mia’s head. “I’ll help you with your gifts, did you tell Dad thank you?” you asked, squatting down to collect the presents.
“They loved their gifts, didn’t you girls?” he spoke up, setting your youngest down before he helped you out, your fingers brushing for a quick moment.
“Daddy always knows what to get us,” Gracie smiled, hugging her new favorite stuffed animal, a frog she decided would be named Dave.
“Do we have to go, Mom?” Mia stopped you, a frown on her face. “You can stay with us, we could have Christmas as a family again this year, and Dad won’t be alone tomorrow,” she pleaded, staring between you and Peter.
You paused as you processed her words. This Christmas was your second as a divorced couple and it really hit hard with Mia. Somedays you really wanted to tell her the truth, but now wasn’t the time, so you needed to stick with the way things are.
“Don’t worry about me, M, I’ll be busy watching over New York,” Peter cleared his throat, kneeling as he squeezed her cheek, reassuring her before sending a look your way.
“Besides, tonight we’re meeting Henry’s family, isn’t that exciting?!” you tried to lighten the mood, but it didn’t work one bit.
“His mom’s gonna be there and I don’t like her,” she pouted.
“Aww, Mia, I know, she’s not the best person, but it’ll only be for a little while,” you offered a smile. “Just say bye to your father,” you pinched her little cheek before you straightened up.
“Bye, Dad,” Mia frowned, not wanting to say goodbye, but she was sure to give him the biggest hug she could manage. “I’m gonna miss you,” she rested her head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her small frame.
“I’m gonna miss you too, M, but be on your best behavior, and I’ll see you in two weeks, okay?” he rubbed her back, squeezing her gently.
He hated saying goodbye too, his heart panged anytime a frown fell on his daughters’ faces and he had to do his best to not cry in front of them or else it would make things worse.
“Bye, Daddy,” Gracie wrapped her tiny limbs around his neck, pressing a sloppy kiss to his cheek that caused him to chuckle. “Mwerry Cwistmas,” she grinned as she gazed up at him.
“Aww, Merry Christmas, Gracie,” he cooed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I love you so much, girls,” he cupped both of their cheeks before he pressed a loving kiss to their foreheads.
“Bye, Dad,” Mia waved before she grabbed the bags of presents from your hands and led her and her little sister outside to the car.
You stayed behind, not looking at Peter directly until you heard the front door click shut.
“You’re really going to put our daughters through the torture of going to a stranger’s house on Christmas?” Peter crossed his arms over his chest, the first to say something. “No wonder they were begging to stay,” he scoffed.
Although he was proud that the real reason the girls wanted to stay was because of him, it still angered him that you were taking them to your boyfriend’s family. Oh, how he loathed that man.
“You look really cute in that Santa hat,” you smirked, taking a step forward, instantly distracting him. “Did you have fun with the girls?” you played with the pompom of his hat, gliding your finger underneath the trim to smooth his hair.
“You know I always do,” he softly spoke, eyes gazing into yours. “Tell me you’ll be thinking of me while you’re there,” he uncrossed his arms, placing his hands on your hips.
“You know I always do,” you cocked a brow, a knowing look plastered on your face. “I’m always thinking of you,” you confessed, sighing in content when his arms wrapped securely around you, forehead resting against yours
He smiled as he leaned in, pressing his lips against yours, and that same rush of adrenaline coursing through you.
Kissing your ex-husband while your current boyfriend was out waiting in the car was thrilling. At any moment, your girls could walk in, but right now, it didn’t matter. You just wanted Peter.
After moving back to the city, you and Peter saw each other much more, and then one thing led to another and you found yourself having an affair with your ex-husband.
But, it didn’t matter. Peter made you feel good, he made you feel alive, and there was no denying the sexiness it came with him when you saw him being a dad. He just loved being a father and he was so amazing.
“How much time until we most likely will be interrupted?” he spoke in between each kiss, your hands holding onto his face as he lead you to the couch, the back of your head thanking the curtains Peter has.
You meshed your hands between his curls, his hair pressed down from the hat, which you threw across the room before you were tugging on his locks, urging moans to come out of him.
“Three minutes give or take, you know how Gracie is,” you muttered, resting your body on the pillows, your hands running down the sides of his torso, missing the way he felt. “Gives me just enough time to make you feel good,” you grinned, hands flying to his sweatpants.
“I don’t think so, babe, gotta show you how good I make you feel,” he stopped you, his hand going towards your jeans.
“Peter, we don’t have time though,” you tried to stop him, thinking he wanted to take off your clothes but he only shook his head at you when he dipped his hand inside.
“Did you happen to forget I made you cum with just my fingers in under two minutes?” he cocked a brow, his middle finger finding your clit before he began to rub small circles. “I had your eyes rolling in the back of your head,” he chuckled, head dipped down to kiss the exposed skin of your low-cut top.
“Fuck,” you sucked in a breath, the sensation growing and you felt a fire ignite inside of you.
“Can’t wait till I’m inside you again,” he mumbled, nipping at your ear.
Even with months of your affair, you and Peter never seemed to find the time to fully go all the way. You felt like teenagers all over again. It was only one time back in October that Henry offered to pick Mia up from ballet and Gracie from soccer after he got off work. With a quick text to Peter, you drove to his house, finally divulging in each other.
You haven’t had a day like that since.
“No more sneaking around, no more quickies, no more lies,” he increased his pace. “Just us, together again, with our beautiful girls,” he pushed some hair out of your face, your hand scrunching the fabric of his shirt together as you moved your hips to match his pace.
“Yes,” you whined, begging for the fantasy to become real.
“Maybe we can even start trying for baby number three like we always planned,” he smirked, your eyes opening in shock as you quickly nodded, your legs parting more. “I always wanted a boy,” he added, feeling you get wetter before his finger spread your slick around and you had your eyes rolling back when he toyed with your bud.
“Yes, Peter, fuck yes!” you threw your head back, legs convulsing as you came undone.
He slowly kissed back up your neck, your deep breathing filling the room while he lazily rubbed your clit, your body shivering at the overstimulation. He truly knew what he was doing, your eyes remaining heavy as you lay there while he coaxed you back to reality.
Soon you felt his hand slip from you, peering your eyes open. He always left you with that feeling of wanting more, wanting him. You caught sight of him admiring you from beneath him, your cheeks heating up thinking how much of a mess you looked right now.
Next thing you know, he brought his fingers up to your lips, your mouth widening before you were sucking his fingers dry. His stare was kept on you, making your cheeks warm even more but it didn’t stop you from getting wetter.
Once you were back on your feet, your legs a bit wobbly, you were making your way to the door when Peter placed a hand beside your head, stopping you.
“Break up with him, tonight.”
The last words slipped from his mouth before he opened the door for you.

Dklsjdfgdsfg this one is SO long but I really wanted to write this one and do it justice so... another TKTMH for you and me being very soft for Beca ksldjgdfs (also yes I did steal Never Grow Up from Taylor Swift, sorry girl but I needed a soft song for Beca to have written dflkhjfgh)
Also on AO3!!! || Masterpost
FEBRUARY DRABBLE CHALLENGE, DAY TWENTY FOUR - LOVE LANGUAGE
“Beca Mitchell!”
The air around Beca exploded with excitement as she sat there, dumbfounded. Wait
 that was her name
did they just say her name?
“Becs, you did it!” The excited squeal in her ear and the tight grip on her arm that brought her back to reality belonged to her wife who was beaming at her with tears in her eyes, an absolute vision (not that she wasn’t normally, but tonight
Beca had almost had heart attack) in the electric blue dress that brought out her eyes in HD quality.
“Go on Beca, they called your name!”
Beca swallowed the lump in her throat as she put her shaky legs to work, grateful for Chloe’s hands guiding her to her feet as she began to take shaky steps towards the stage, trying to comprehend the twilight zone reality that she’d walked into that somehow involved a beaming Trevor Noah handing her a freaking Grammy.
“Um
” Beca cleared her throat awkwardly as she ran a hand through her hair, resting the Grammy (seriously, what the fuck?) on the podium in front of her, “That thing is so fu-freaking heavy.” She chuckled as she shook her head a little.
“Cussing is my go to when I’m this shocked but I know my kids are watching despite the fact that we told their aunties to put them to bed hours ago
”
-----
Amy winced as she glanced at the two redheaded children sat cross legged in front of the tv in their pyjamas, eyes gleaming and grins broad despite the late hour, full of unadulterated pride for their mom.
“We’re so dead when they get home
 how did she know?!”
“Oh c’mon, like we’re that hard to predict.” Stacie laughed, her sleeping daughter Mia curled up in her arms somehow not woken by the noise that her aunties had made when Beca’s name had been called.
All the Bellas had flown in for this, distance and work a fleeting thought. Their sister had been nominated for a Grammy, of course they were going to be there.
“Sh!” Brooke turned to frown at her aunties, “I wanna hear mom!”
“Well we know where she got her attitude
” Amy mumbled out of the side of her mouth as Stacie simply shook her head at her.
-----
“I uh
this is so weird, I had not prepared for this eventually.” Beca bit her lip a little, “My wife is the one who’s always prepared for literally everything, seriously I would not be able to leave the house in the morning without making like three return trips for everything I had forgotten if it wasn’t for her.”
There was a ripple of laughter through the crowd as Beca glanced over at Chloe. She really was radiant under these lights, even now when Beca should arguably be thinking about other things, all she was thinking about was Chloe and how much she loved her.
“I got so lucky when I met Chloe, even luckier when I married her and then had the two most gorgeous kids in the world with her. I know I’m biased or whatever but
I really do have the most perfect family.” Beca pursed her lips for a moment, determined not to cry in front of the several million people watching her right now. The Bellas would never let her live it down.
“That’s who this song is for, my kids.” Beca smiled easily as she ran her hand through her hair again, “I overheard my daughter talking to Chloe one night, she was asking why I didn’t like cuddles, why Chloe was always cuddling her and kissing her and I didn’t do that, and was it because I didn’t love her as much as Chloe did, and that
that broke my heart. Because I love her so much that it hurts sometimes and the idea that she would think I didn’t was insane.”
Beca felt Chloe’s eyes watching her intently. There were thousands of eyes on her, but Beca could pick Chloe’s out without even trying. She knew Chloe didn’t know she’d heard that conversation, that if she found her eyes right now they’d be full of tearful concern.
“See I’ve never been great at showing how I feel, not like that, I’m not a very tactile person you can ask anyone. But the one thing I’ve always had was music. It’s how I told Chloe that I loved her, how we first connected with each other, how I put all my thoughts and feelings into words when my head gets loud
music is my love language, it’s the only thing I’ve ever understood like that.” Beca was aware she was rambling at this point, but they seemed to be happy to let her continue to do so for now.
“It was around this time that they were asking me
begging me really, to try and put an album together, to create an original sound, and I had this
I dunno rush? Of inspiration and I went straight to my little home studio and grabbed my guitar and I just
started to play. And that’s how I got Never Grow Up, it is my love song to Brooke and to Charlie, my way of hugging them and kissing them and all of that tactile stuff that I suck at. I never wrote it for accolades or for money, I wrote it for my family and the fact that so many people kind of listened to it and resonated with it? That blows my mind man
”
Beca shook her head as she found Chloe’s eyes again, grinning at her and giving her a little wave as Chloe giggled at her and blew her a kiss. Even when the world was watching, Beca would always find a moment for her, and Chloe would never be able to tell her how grateful she was for that.
“So
as incredible as this is, and believe me I will take weeks to fully process the enormity of this
this belongs to my beautiful wife Chloe, to our kids Brooke and Charlie who I love so much and had better be in bed by the time I get home
and to our weird little acapella singing family who have been my rock since college and who are definitely getting drunk and making a mess of my house right now.”
Beca laughed softly as she turned to Chloe again, beckoning to her as Chloe’s eyes widened a little, confusion making her brows furrow, “Come here Chlo. This belongs to you as well, all of this. She can come up here right?”
There was a confused scuffle as Chloe was ushered up onto the stage and walked over to Beca, her expression still quizzical as she reached her and took her outstretched hands.
“I love you Chloe. I suck at showing it sometimes, but all of this I owe to you and the beautiful family we created together.” Beca pulled Chloe into her, suddenly not giving a damn about the cameras or the people that would be watching them.
“You’re such a dork.” Chloe giggled, “I love you too.”
It was then that Beca kissed her, in front of everyone, throwing caution to the wind as she ran her hands into her hair. Chloe grinned against her lips as she kissed her back, arms draped loosely around her waist. When Beca broke for her air and remembered where she was she blushed furiously, resting her head on Chloe’s shoulder for a moment.
“Um, yeah.” Beca turned back to the microphone for a moment, “Brooke, Charlie, I love you so much even if I don’t always show it as much as momma does. And guys, please put them to bed now, you’re not the ones who have to deal with them when they’re crabby from not sleeping enough tomorrow. I’m gonna go now before I do something else embarrassing, thank you for this
”
Beca took the Grammy in one hand, Chloe’s hand in the other as she headed for the backstage, her mind finally starting to comprehend the ass she had just made of herself with her rambling as deafeningly thunderous applause sounded around her. But as she began to spiral Chloe gently pressed her against the wall and kissed her again, cupping her face in her hands.
“You are the biggest, softest, most talented dork in the whole world.” Chloe shook her head a little, “That was beautiful Becs, really. I’m so freaking proud of you.”
“So I didn’t just make an ass of myself on an international stage?” Beca grinned sheepishly.
“Oh you definitely did.” Chloe giggled, “But endearingly so. And for the record, you don’t suck at showing you how much you love me. Just because your love language is different to mine, or it isn’t as obvious to others, that doesn’t make it any less important or beautiful. I love you, you’re my whole world, you and Brooke and Charlie, that’s it. And I wouldn’t change you for the world.”
“I got so lucky the day I met you.” Beca murmured, eyes full of tears, “I love you. I could never write enough songs to express how much I do.”

doing groceries w/ the msby four
Tumblr media
character roster: sakusa kiyoomi, bokuto kotaro, hinata shoyo, atsumu miya
genre: fluff, just a little angst (in bokuto’s part), established relationship
a/n: i broke my glasses today, so i had to go out and get it fixed, but my favorite eye glasses store went MIA. so not only am i blind, but i’m also sad as hell. but i was able to think of a cute lil one shot while i was walking around the grocery store.
also please don’t mind if there’s a few grammar errors uwu
Tumblr media
-- sakusa kyoomi
the exact same way your mom holds your hand while wandering around the store is exactly what he’ll do to you
he doesn’t want you wandering away from him or accidentally break something he’ll have to end up paying for
the latter can be blamed on the one (and only) time he and bokuto did groceries together; tiny baby couldn’t stop touching things, he ended up breaking a vase
he also doesn’t want you catching other people’s germs
the whole ordeal gives him anxiety
“Kiyoooomi~,” You whine, trying to slip away from his grip only to have him tighten it. You grumble your distaste for your boyfriend’s attitude.
It’s been a whole hour since you’ve stepped into the store and he hasn’t let you go since. And though you usually wouldn’t mind it, the urge to pee comes to you in a surprise and you’ve been wanting to go to the bathroom for the last twenty minutes.
But it’s not like your boyfriend cares enough to spare you a moment alone to alleviate yourself. He’d rather you wait a little longer until you get home, but his painstakingly slow pace down the aisle has you internally screaming.
He’s got one hand tightly threaded between your fingers and the other pushing the cart. His eyes scan over the many canned vegetables before him, ignoring your protest and complaints.
“You’re usually annoying about wanting to hold my hand,” He says through his mask, sighing deeply. “I’m hurt you all of a sudden wanna let go.”
You glare at him and his cheap attempt to make you feel guilty. “You and I both know exactly why you’re holding my hand, and it’s got nothing to do with affection.”
You squeeze your thighs together, doing a little dance to calm the urge to pee. Your eyes burn holes into your Sakusa’s skin and you hope its enough to make him uncomfortable, but he takes it well.
“We’re almost done,” He tells you, taking a can off the shelf with his free hand. “I just need to get tissues and then we’re--”
“Sakusa Kiyoomi, if you don’t let me go right this second, I’ll pee on your hand right here, right now!”
Without a second thought, he slaps your hand out of his hold, grimacing at you and your threatening words, muttering words of disgust beneath his mask as you sprint to the nearest restroom.
-- bokuto kotaro
you have to remind bokuto not to touch things before you leave the house AND before you get into the store
mans will touch every thing he sees without QUESTION;
shiny pan? cute little bear shaped spoons? anime themed plates? he’ll pick it up, bring it up to the light to inspect it, and because his hands are naturally sweaty, he might break a few
and you’re wallet runs dry by the time you walk out of that store
“That’ll be an extra 2,581 yen.” The cashier holds her hand out as you place your money onto the palm of your hand. It takes everything in you not to grab a shard of glass and dig it into your boyfriend’s thigh.
You nod curtly before grabbing the rest of your bags and exiting the store.
Bokuto shadows over you, but still gives you enough space to breathe. He’ll hover his hands over yours, trying to taking a couple of weight from your grasp as you walk back to the car but you shift away.
He pouts. The rest of the walk is dead silent, but even you can hear the little whines in his heart, all the mental kicking he’s giving himself for doing exactly what you told him not to do.
He’ll help you pack the groceries into the car, and you leave him to do the rest and get inside the car, sitting in the passenger seat. You feel the car wobble when he closes the trunk and sits beside you soon after.
Like a dog with it’s ears, Bokuto’s hair falls down to his face. You begin to feel bad for giving him a bit of the cold shoulder, but you told him not to touch the plate, to put it back. But Bokuto being Bokuto, he couldn’t help but pick it up, inspect it, and even scratch the little paintings of the oranges to check if there was a scent.
And because he’s clumsier than ever, he dropped it while twirling it in his hands. Which leads you to now.
The soft hum of the car fills the dead air between you both. Bokuto shyly glances at you, still pouting. You take a deep breath, closing your eyes as you rest your head back.
You feel him take your hand, tracing circles over it before he brings it up against his cheek. He presses little kisses onto you skin, mumbling a string of apologies.
You turn your head, flicking your eyes open to meet his eyes, tears brimming at the waterline.
You bring your other hand to cup the other side of his face, your smile lopsided as you feel your boyfriend trembling in your hold.
“Are you still mad at me?” He asks, eyes averting away from yours and not the material of your jeans. “I’m really sorry for breaking something again...”
“My little love,” You sigh, your warm breath fanning against his blushing cheeks. “What am I gonna do with someone as clumsy as you? You’re gonna make me broke, Bo.”
He smiles at the nickname, assuring him he’s still within the safety of you love. “So you don’t hate me?”
You bring his forehead close to yours so he can hear you loud and clear when you say, “I’ll never hate you, but if you end up breaking another thing, I’ll cut up all your volleyball jersies. Understood?”
Its a shaky laugh that leaves his lips, but he nods his head. “Understood.
-- atsumu miya
you’ll find him in the fresh produce section
he’s knocking against the watermelon with a tight fist, and you think its pretty cute of him putting effort into looking for fresh fruit
but in reality he has no clue what he’s doing
he’s seen osamu do it before and he’s always wanted to try
you eventually catch onto the gimmick when he starts slapping the mangos, too
You chew onto the bottom of you lip, using all the energy you have left from wandering around looking for Atsumu to bite down your urge to laugh.
Your boyfriend looks quite serious, gaze fixed at the mango cradled in the palm of his hand. He slaps it a few times before bringing it up to his ear, listening to it as if there’s a whole ocean speaking to him.
He’s oblivious to the judging glances and amused stares, too absorbed whatever it is he’s doing.
You want to stop him, call his name so you can both head to check out. But the scene unravelling before you is too funny--even more so when he puts the mango down and reaches for the apple, slapping it as well before pressing it against his ear.
You know you shouldn’t, but you pull out your phone to take a picture, immediately sending it to Osamu. You quietly accept the fate of future you before calling out to your boyfriend.
-- hinata shoyo
he’s kinda like bokuto except he knows not to test you
but he is the type to add a bunch of things in the cart that you weren’t planning on buying
you won’t even notice until you’re at the check out counter
and he’ll justify every single thing he’s put in the cart
“Shoyo, no.” You glare at him, resting your hands onto your hips as you scold him in the middle of the check-out counter. The poor cashier tries to mind her business as you and your childlike boyfriend bicker over which items go and which stay. “Why the hell do we need a glow in the dark flashlight? We have still have a perfectly good one at home!”
“Yes, but this one’s my favorite color!” You feel your eye twitching at his counter argument, not entirely sure if you’re talking to a kid or your adult boyfriend. “AND how are you gonna find the flashlight in the dark? If we get the glow in the dark one, it’ll be easier to find!”
You hear a quiet mumble of agreement coming from the cashier and the people behind you. A very soft, “Well, he’s got a point,” hanging above you.
You pinch your nose, sighing heavily as you near your defeat. But you don’t want to give in just yet. “Shoyo, we can’t buy everything in this cart. This is all way too much.”
His smile falters and you roll your eyes. You pick out the foot cream from the cart, “Why do you need this? You already have one at home.”
“But they didn’t have coconut before.” He replies, not at all sensing your irritation.
You dig your hand back into the pile, reaching for anything random. You bite into your cheek when you see what’s in your hand. Hinata opens his mouth to protest, but you speak before he can even mutter a sound. “No.”
“But--”
“Absolutely not.”
“But it’s so cute!”
“Hinata Shoyo, I will not bring another cat themed item into my house just because your best friend tells you to!”

andante, andante
pairing: george weasley x fem!reader , george weasley x angelina johnson, bill weasley x fem!reader
summary: (part iii of mamma mia! series) after arriving on the island of kalokairi, she’s met with a storm, a horse and another very attractive ginger man.
warnings: mamma mia!au, muggle!au, angst, fluff, au where george isn’t that close with his family, mentions of storms, thunder, lightning, mentions of an abandoned house, broken stairs and windows, etc.
words: 3.7k
a/n: i mentioned in the first two parts of this that this was an au where the weasleys aren’t siblings but i decided they were so
 yeah :)
Tumblr media
y/n explored the small secluded island.
she found a large abandoned house. she could really make something out of it, she thought.
she saw something in it, a hotel maybe or a restaurant. an attraction for tourists and newcomers. sure, the place had broken windows and moldy floors but with the right motivation, what could stop her?
the place had a blue tone to it. aquamarine doors and shutters. the white walls and destroyed rooms. there were vines all over the place, intoxicating the beauty of home.
she tried sliding down the railing of the beautifully made staircase, she ended up destroying it.
she heard thunder from a distance, a few short minutes later, rain started pouring down with lightning. but, she still continues exploring the abandoned house.
faint noises of neighing can be heard in the distance. she steps down on unstable looking stairs, to what looks like a basement. the walls were made out of rocks and there was rainwater coming inbetween the loose floorboards from upstairs.
“hello?!” she yelled.
she found a tall brown horse tied down to piece of plywood. y/n could barely see anything.
the horse panicked, he jumped and broke the piece of wood. the floorboards from above collapsed due to the horse’s sudden movements. y/n yelped and jumped back.
the piece of wood the horse was tied to now under the debris. the rain was pouring, she was soaked from head to toe.
y/n thought for a moment ‘what could she do?’ she thought of calling for help. “wait there, okay? i’ll be back, yeah?” she ran back up to look for any bystanders or passerby’s.
she ran down a gravelly road until she was met with a man driving a motorcycle.
“stop! stop!” she stood right in front of the moving vehicle to catch the rider’s attention.
the rider had bright ginger hair and freckles just like the other two men she’s been with in the past week. the man stopped his motorcycle looking concerned and scared.
“can i help?”
she dragged him out of his bike and back to the house. she led him down to the basement, trying to avoid all the damage they could cause.
they prodded across all the broken floorboards in front of the horse.
“you have a plan?” she panted.
“oh, absolutely, i’m a trained veterinarian.” he uttered.
“really?” she looked up at him, a little hope enflaming in her heart.
“no. no, i’m a businessman but don’t tell this guy that” the small hope in her heart died out. how could he be joking at a time like this?
he lifted her over another piece of debris before marching over to the panicked animal. the horse jumped and the stepped back.
“woah! okay!”
“i’ll distract him, you grab the halter” she offered.
“good plan,” he looked at her “what’s the halter?” he asked, confused.
she did a double take at him until forming a new plan “just — just talk calmly.”
“easier when i’m calm” he expressed “alright, my friend.” he climbed over the fence
“storms are scary,” he started “and i wish i was home and dry right now, too, but believe me,” y/n climbed over the fence too but going over to the horse’s behind.
“it came down to a choice between leaving you and helping you,” he looked at y/n then back at the horse.
“there’s no choice at all.” the two of them stepped closer to the horse and grabbed his forehead, calming him down. y/n was clinging onto his gear and rope.
“good boy, good boy” she rubbed the horse’s forehead.
—
the two became quite acquainted. she’s noticed a type since she’s departed off to explore the world. tall gingers with freckled faces. she’s also noticed that only ron’s mentioned his last name. for all she knows they could all be siblings.
he introduced himself as george. he mentioned he lived, in the exact words, ‘in a shack on a hill’.
“ha! and what the hell were you doing there?” she laughed at his answer. they were exploring the seaside while getting to know each other.
“uh
i don’t know, running away i guess.” he stammered “everything at home was lined up for me. a great job and just, you know, my whole life mapped out. i wanted to take a break before i signed up to it” he sighed.
“how ‘bout you?” he nodded over to her.
all she did was purse her lips and shrug. “i have absolutely nothing mapped out. and no clue about what the future holds.”
she walked forward “enough walking. let’s ride.” he smiled at her and followed.
—
he brought her to the town. she went shopping for her new wardrobe. george just thought it would be fun to go with her.
right now, she was in a changing room trying on all her different outfits.
“so, how come you’re here all alone, saving horses?” he asked right outside the curtain.
“uh,” she stammered “i’ve been traveling my whole life. my dad was never in the picture, and my mum’s always on tour.”
“oh. she sings?”
“sweet as sugarcane.”
“you know, there’s some great stuff here. this dress would look very pretty on-“ he was holding up a very tacky blue dress that looked like a nighty. he turned away from the hats and dresses as she emerged from the curtains in a whole new outfit.
she was wearing denim dungarees with a floral yellow top. she was barefoot and spinning around to show him to full outfit.
“you don’t know me at all do you?” she noticed the dress he was holding. the two just laughed it off.
—
once again they found themselves somewhere else. this time a small restaurant, pub, bar whatever you could call it.
there was a live bad and the lead singer was obviously drunk and absolutely horrible.
“god! this whole place is incredible” she exclaimed as george came back with their drinks “i am definitely staying here forever.”
“yeah? your mum wouldn’t miss you?”
“no, she’s not that kind of mom” she brushed it off and laughed.
“oh, i’m sorry. i didn’t
”
“oh! oh, this isn’t a sob story, i’m fine!” she furrowed her brows and assured him.
“and it’s not easy being a mother. if it was, fathers would do it” she continued.
“well, i wish i could stay here, too.” he absorbed everything happening around him. a chaotic love band in front of him and a very pretty lady right next to him.
“oh, when do you go back?” she sipped her drink “to your fully programmed, good job, short haircut life?”
they both let out a small laugh “i have a week”.
“oh!” she cleared her throat and her focus went back to the band.
“listen, about what’s waiting for me back home.”
“yeah, hang on, hang on” she cheered for the band as they ended a song.
she was laughing and cheering and having the time of her life. “i am definitely staying here.”
he forgot what he was about to say and just laughed at her antics.
she raised her hand at the short lady behind the bar. “excuse me. are you the owner?” she inquired.
“my son the owner. he had to buy bar because no other place he let his band play.”
“hello!” the lead singer, the lady’s son sat down on their table “so, how can i help you?”
“well, firstly, you’re all awesome” this was the thing about y/n. even if he was horrible and drunkenly singing, she loved that he was having fun and enjoying what he was doing. that should be the purpose if everything in life.
“oh!” his eyes lit up at the compliment.,”and second,” she placed her hands on his “i’d like to sing here sometime with my group.” she offered.
“you have a good voice” the owner raised his eyebrow.
“oh, sweet as sugarcane” george affirmed and winked back at y/n.
“okay
then let us hear.” he gave the mic to y/n.
“oh, no. not just like that.” she leaned back on her chair and chuckled nervously.
“here on island, everything just like that. it’s the path of happiness. you think too much, you get unhappy” the man exaggerated, stood up and offered his hand to y/n.
she stood up from her chair, silently asking george for help. all he did was shrug in response.
“thinking at all is pretty much
a mistake.” he lead her to the stage and twirled her around.
“well, in that case,” she sighed “uh
 okay.”
she started humming, then singing andante, andante by abba, capella.
everyone was shocked to say the least. george, the owner’s mother, the few customers all paid attention to the stage.
the instruments started platinum in the background while a disco ball softly spun. she chuckled nervously before continuing.
she walked off the stage while singing.
“you are hired!” the owner excitedly yelled.
“really?” her eyes widened.
“yes! you are really, really, really, hired!” he hugged her.
she cheered while the owner gestured for his mother to serve them drinks.
—
later that evening, george brought y/n to his little “shack on a hill” to stay for the night.
they stopped right before the door, the stars brightly shining in the sky. before any of them knew, the two leaned in to press their lips against each other’s, george’s hand on the side of her face her arms around her neck.
it seemed like all time went out the window, she was laying in his bed, fully nude under the covers right next to him.
—
the next day, george planned a whole itinerary for the two. they went for breakfast in the town. he told her about all the food his mum cooked for his whole family. he exclusively told her about his twin brother, his sister and his parents. he didn’t want to talk about the others.
right after breakfast, here they were, on a boat to explore off the island.
“rightïżœïżœ george grunted as he lifted the paddles of the boat.
“i don’t think you know what you’re doing” y/n chuckled.
“i’m hoping,” he panted “if i keep pulling these two bits of wood, we might eventually bump into land”
“oh, okay.” she was uncertain and a bit nervous to say the least. non of them knew where they were going, for all she knows they migjt end up stranded.
“there’s another little island over there. i thought we might go for a little picnic” she looked over his shoulder where she assumed where the island was.
“where’s the food?” she leaned back to absorb the sunlight shining down on them.
“oh, you’re gonna catch it, on the way” he winked. she chuckled and picked up what was supposed to be a fishing net.
george continued rowing we he admired her beauty.
“uh
” she stammered “so, we haven’t talked about last night.”
george faltered “no
”
“you should know that i never do that, as fast.” she explained “i mean, hardly ever.”
she paused “well, sometimes — a bit recently, in fact. but not on the whole, not.”
“i thought it was miraculous” he assured.
“um, i’m gonna say something here, and you should shut up as i’m saying it because you’ll think i’m crazy for a while, but gradually you’ll
you’ll realize i’m right, and then you’ll spend the rest of your life thanking me for saving so much time and getting straight to it.”
george looked at her skeptically “well, i’m ready”
“i wasn’t joking yesterday, i was serious. i want to stay here, and i think you should, too. i think we should make a choice to do something radical and wonderful, to live in this extraordinary place with someone
” she hesitated before continuing “someone miraculous.”
when george just stared at her she spoke up again “i told you, you’d think it was crazy.”
he sighed before speaking up “i don’t think it’s that simple. nothing is.”
“everything is, when you break it down”
george looked out at the distance before looking back at her. she was the most miraculous thing he’s ever seen, touched, interacted with.
y/n was biting her lip as she awaited an answer from him. when he chuckled, she felt a smile creep onto her face.
“i don’t think it’s crazy.”
she chuckled “that’ll do; for now”
he took out his camera to snap a picture of an angel in human form, sitting across him. he didn’t know why he ever thought of leaving her, even if they did just meet a day ago.
they had a lot of fun the rest of the day. taking photos of each other, catching fish, having a picnic and almost getting lost.
—
another few days went by, they slept in the same ‘shack’, in the same bed, doing everything together.
y/n was wide awake at 5am in the morning. she was scribbling in her journal everything that’s happened with george. she was happy ; no, ecstatic! she felt alive and amazing.
she stopped writing as she gazed at him. still fast asleep next to her.
she went out to the balcony and walked around wherever her feet took her. picking oranges, doing cartwheels on the sand. she also fell while picking said oranges, it fell on her head and a goat almost chased her off the island.
when she got back to george’s shack. she made the two of them breakfast. she was almost done before she opened a drawer on the kitchen island.
in it was a bunch of knives and other cutlery, and a journal, most probably george’s. it was brown leather with a sealed with a leather band.
she couldn’t help it, she picked it up and pulled a photo that was sticking out of it.
y/n’s fantasy world crumbled at her feet. it was george. her george. he was cradling a dark skinned woman at his side. she was tall, beautiful, everything george probably wanted. she saw a gaudy engagement ring on her finger. that did it for y/n, she slammed the book down and ran for it.
the loud noise woke george up. he put on some clothes and ran after her.
she just ran and ran until she arrived back at the farmhouse she found the horse in.
“y/n! y/n! please, just listen to me” he pleaded.
“love to” she yelled sarcastically.
“you will?”
“yeah, of course. i’ll listen while you answer three questions” she stood at the too of the broken stairs, glaring daggers at him.
all he did was nod in response.
“are you engaged to that beautiful woman?”
“yes”
oh lord, did she feel like breaking down again. but she couldn’t, he was right there in front of her, a few steps down.
“and did you tell me about it?” her ring clad hands clenched into tight fists.
“no” he shook his, looking down at his shoes.
“and do you seriously think i could ever forgive you?” she asked one last time, breathless.
“please, y/n.” he pleaded once more.
“go! leave!” she stomped up the stairs, not caring if she fell through the pathetic pieces if wood.
“please just listen to me”
“that is enough listening! go!” she screamed at him at the top of her lungs before marching up the stairs again.
he just stood there. not knowing what to say. he just lost the possible love of his life.
of course, he loved angelina. but did he love her the way he loved y/n? considering how heartbroken he is about y/n now? probably not.
he heard her slam a door. he sighed before leaving the farmhouse in despair.
he ran back to his house with tears in his eyes. he packed up his bags, and decided to just go home.
y/n on the other hand was destroying what was left of the farmhouse. she pulled at her own hair while she watched the waves going back and forth through the window. she really like george, between ron and bill.
she most definitely thought he’d be the one.
the last time y/n saw george was when he was leaving with a boat. she was standing by a tree as he was whisked away back to his planned life.
she came back to the horse under the farmhouse. she stroked and hugged it for comfort.
—
a few days go by of y/n sitting in the old overgrown room, sobbing. she was heartbroken.
the only way she could fix it was either by singing, which she was not in the mood to, or being with her friends.
it resulted in option number two. she waited for fleur and dawn at the dock.
when she heard gasps of her name, she immediately turned to see her two most favorite people in the world.
her sullen face turned into a small smile as she ran to hug them. the two were screaming and shrieking to see their best friend again.
they met in the middle of the pier in a tight hug. they missed each other so much!
“oh my god! i see what you mean!” fleur exclaimed.
“this is beautiful!” dawn was jumping around, arms wide open as she twirled to see the place “this place is paradise!”
“i’m so glad you’re here” she sniffled.
they noticed her expression. their faces fell. “what’s happened?” “where’s the hot architect?”
“oh.. turns out he was lying to me.” she confessed.
“he’s not an architect?” dawn asked.
she shook her head no “he’s engaged, to someone else.”
she let out a small pathetic laugh “and she looks beautiful, and now he’s gone back to her.” her voice was shaky almost breaking down in tears again.
“i hate it when they do that” fleur rubbed her arm comfortingly.
“oh!” the three hugged again.
—
she explained to them everything that’s happened, including ron, bill and the pub, everything.
they rode the horse as she led them to where she’s been sleeping. “so, i’ve been sleeping in this farmhouse. but it’s the most beautiful place in the world. and it also has a horse.”
“yes, very romantic. we’re taking you home.” fleur sighed.
“uh, not before a fabulous performance by the greatest girl band in the world.” dawn interjected.
“yes!” “we’ve got all the gear! where are we playing?”
“oh! no, no, no. i can’t. i can’t. i’m not in the mood” y/n groaned.
“oh! but it will put you in that mood!”
“of course it will! the floodlights, the grease paint, the adrenaline of the crowd. a thousand descendants of great greek warriors cheering and clapping furiously as the irresistible beat transforms their bodies into pulsating pilars of flesh!”
—
when they git to the pub. it was as dead as the relationship between y/n and george.
no one was there. the band was exhausted out of their mind and the owner’s mother was serving just one customer.
“i don’t know how to sing about love when i’m not feeling it.”
“then, sing about what you are feeling.” fleur suggested.
y/n sang the beginning of mamma mia by abba in a sullen, depressing tone.
the band started watching her with comforting smiles in their faces. y/n slowly moved to the center of the stage, standing and swaying her hips a little.
when she got to the pre-chorus, the pace picked up a bit and the tone was more fiery and fun. the band started playing again.
dawn and fleur cheered before joining her on stage.
“yes, y/n!”
when they continued performing to the second verse, the owner whistled for more people to come in.
people started crowding the pub when she ran back on stage. the three were jumping and stomping to the beat.
the dancer around the pub and ended up on the bar counter.
dawn ended up accidentally pushing y/n off the counter and into the arms of another familiar ginger man.
“bill?!” it was bill. the man with the boat.
fleur was eyeing the two up and down. she definitely thought bill was attractive.
fleur and dawn left them alone against fleur’s will. she didn’t pass up the chance to walk by them every time though.
when fleur sat back down across dawn, she started ranting.
“my point is—“
“i know what your point is.”
“you don’t know what my point is.” she argued.
“your point is that you fancy him.”
she hummed back “you see? you were wrong. that’s not my point. it’s not that i fancy him. my point is, actually, that i love him and i want to have his babies and eventually push him around in a wheelchair and scatter his ashes.”
dawn spit her drink back into the glass to look at fleur weirdly. “i see.”
“and he likes y/n. and i don’t think that’s very fair.”
“he can help her feel better.”
“d’you know what makes me feel better when my heart’s broken? cake. why doesn’t she just do that instead? just eat humongous amounts of cake and leave hot ginger guy to me.”
they looked back over at y/n and bill. they were talking and laughing and generally just enjoying themselves.
“i’m going in” fleur smiled.
“no. you’re staying out, sister, because you love y/n and you want her to be happy.”
as dawn sat fleur back down, y/n and bill approached them. “hey guys”
“hi” the two said back, fleur’s drink accidentally spilling from her mouth.
“this is my friend bill” she pointed to him.
“hi!” fleur said again, flustered “it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“we’ve heard nothing about you.” dawn said, fleur laughing saying ‘hi’ again.
“i brought y/n here on my boat.” bill explained.
“you’ve got a boat!” fleur exclaimed “he’s got a boat!”
“and then i worried about her so i came back.” bill continued.
“he worries, he cares. and he’s got a boat!”
“and now, i’m taking her out to sea again.”
“taking her out to sea again. in the boat”
dawn looked at fleur weirdly before fleur sat down and downed her drink.
“you don’t think i should go?” y/n stepped forward and whispered to dawn.
“are you kidding? of course, you should.” dawn turned around the get fleur again “tell her she should go.”
fleur stayed silent for a few seconds before dawn slapped her arm a few times. “you should absolutely go.”
“that’s what i’m saying”
“i- i’m saying it too. go.”
“go! and do everything i’d do!” dawn stepped forward.
“nearly everything. i’m sorry.” fleur pulled her back.
“thanks, guys. i’ll be back soon.”
“bye, darlin’!” “bye.”
when y/n was out of sight, fleur’s smile faltered. “could i get some cake please?”
“some cake over here?” dawn gestured for a waiter.
“— a lot of cake!”

Ya know, I truly hope Miss Renesmee Carlie Cullen fully dedicates herself to just....being as out there and iconic as possible
first things first- ANYTHING with the loch ness monster on it, she owns. Posters, shirts, jackets, shoes, folders, buttons, iron-ons, there is always at least 5 pieces of Nessie merch on her at all times
once she gets old enough to start high school, the cover story is her and Edward are siblings that Carlisle and Esme took in, and sometimes her classmates will ask her what her biological parents were like and she will flat out be like 'oh, they're vampires' and Edward and Bella are like. 5 feet away trying not to scream
every Halloween she'll show up to school in an elaborate Nosferatu costume
goes out of her way to photobomb people in increasingly ridiculous ways so there will Always be a photographic record of her and in like 100 years she can get a huge kick out of teens on the internet trying to make a conspiracy about her
joins as many school clubs as she can, even if she has no interest in them- she just Really wants a concrete record of herself to exist lmao
ICONIC at school theater though. One of those demon theater kids that come to rehearsal purely to cause chaos and nothing else, but her voice is incredible so she secures every lead. One time she somehow managed to star in a show while also playing in the school band for it- her classmates still have no idea how she pulled it off
Always brings blood out in public in a CLEAR THERMOS and it stresses her family out so much but everyone else thinks she's just like, weirdly into tomato juice so the Cullens can't stop her
to everyone's surprise...her biggest chaos enabler is Jasper lmao. everyone thought he'd be a logical, responsible uncle but they're just. A Problem together. He'll 100% assist her in any prank she wants to pull, he gets her fake id's when she wants to sneak into a club with friends, he bails her out of jail without telling her parents, they figured out if she gets high and he reads her feelings he'll get high too and it's. So fucking funny.
she's always carrying some random instrument around school- like for a while it's a guitar or a harmonica, fine, but then she'll start lugging a cello around, a tuba (she doesn't even play, she stole it off a guy who was annoying her) and it escalates until one day she's wheeling a piano around the building. no one's even sure how she got in in the doors of the school. She keeps running kids over in the hallway with it
You know the Catherine Tate Lauren Cooper skit with David Tennant? Where she's being a terrible student and then perfectly recites Shakespeare? 100% Nessie
when she starts getting dates Jacob keeps trying to wing man and be over supportive and give her a ton of girl advice and it's embarrassing as hell so one day when he was on a spiel about How To Woo A Lady she looks him in the eyes and goes 'oh really? did that work on my mom?' and the Cullens fucking LOSE IT. Jacob had to go live in the woods for a few days because he couldn't cope
Emmet and Jasper: arrive to school in their jeep. Rose and Alice: arrive in a convertible. Edward: arrives in his dumb volvo. Bella and Jake: arrive to school on motorcycles. Nessie: arrives to school on a unicycle while juggling
one year she ended up getting nominated for prom queen and Edward read the minds of the teachers tallying the votes so he knew she won and he and Bella were so excited!! they're like we're gonna take so many pictures of our baby looking like a princess! And then she emerges from her room, actually drenched in pigs blood. Like she just did it to herself and went to the dance and accepted her crown like that
she regularly commits crimes against fashion. If she comes out of her room and sees Alice contemplating turning herself over to the Volturi, she KNOWS she's picked a great look
somehow gets ahold of Aro's cell number and sends him selfies of her blatantly breaking vampire laws captioned 'whatcha gonna do'. he keeps blocking her but she keeps managing to get through to him somehow
she illegally sells soda out of her locker and does people's homework for cash, while also paying other people to do her homework for her. she organizes every single senior prank. she's never gotten a detention in her whole immortal life because every teacher just Adores her for some reason
had 100% used her powers for deserved evil before. Like, if someone's being a dick at school, she'll sneak into their room at night and give them nightmarea threatening them to be a better person lol
sometimes she'll show up at the hospital unannounced and ask Carlisle, in front of his coworkers, 'yo can I raid the blood bank?'
her bedroom looks like a library. every wall, floor to ceiling books.
she's been publishing trashy romance novels under a fake name for almost 40 years now and no one in her family knows
one birthday Jacob takes her on a trip to vegas and they get wasted, at some point they were laughing about how ridiculous their lives are and they're like 'wouldn't it be fucking hilarious if we had a baby'. they then black out, hangover style, and wake up like a week later with a payment on her card to a fertility clinic. Jacob's like đŸ˜± and Ness is just like 'you get to be the one to explain this to my parents'
Their kid is absolutely hilarious, they were correct, and at some point they realized 'wait...drinks blood..doesn't sparkle...can shape shift...we've somehow created a classic pop culture vampire' lmao
Edward had to threaten them to get them to not name the kid Vladimir
Also to be clear: Nessie and Jacob have the EXACT same dynamic as Will and Grace. that's canon.
says its her goal to star in a live action all female production of mamma mia and Carlisle is like 'honey you know you can't do anything on broadway or in hollywood' and she's like, 'no, in real life. I'm gonna go to greece and attract a bunch of women with abba songs' and he's like,,,,,ah
she loves all music but she goes out of her way to Only play stuff she knows Edward hates lmao
one day she remembers she doesn't need to breathe and can see under water and just. books herself a ticket to scotland and Finds The Loch Ness Monster
she actually personally finds a lot of monsters and cryptids like her hybrid aura just attracts all kind of weird shit and she LOVES it. She stops writing trashy romance novels and starts writing autobiographies of her traveling and hanging out with paranormal beings and everyone just assumes its fiction so she becomes a best selling fantasy author lmao
100% she's very into witchy stuff and only like...half in a trendy way. She's like what if on top of everything I've got going on I can cast spells? Think I deserve that power
when she's a couple decades old she catches Edward looking grossed out one day and she asks him what's up and he's like 'I really dont need to hear what creepy teachers think about my daughter' and she's like. oh. Dad we are gonna get SO MANY pedophiles arrested shdndjdn she gets him to expose teachers and she baits them then calls the police. queen.
She finds out she can get tattoos but they fade completely out of her skin within 5 years so she's always getting crazy tats
posts selfies on social media of her just like. hanging out with mountain lions or chilling on top of the space needle. her classmates think they're all photoshopped obvi but it drives her family insane
imagine you're 15 and you're on a nice hike in the woods and you come across your one classmate half naked, sacrificing a bear in some ritual, blood dripping down her face, bigfoot chilling on the rocks behind her filming the ritual on her phone...like on one hand, what would you do, but on the other hand. you've known this girl for a bit and you aren't surprised at all
anyway. stan Nessie Cullen.

Years ago, Nikki would’ve never dreamed of an actual Christmas celebration with family and friends and kids. Hell, he had never expected an actual Christmas in his whole life - his dad had split, his mom was a colossal bitch, and she could never keep a stable job long enough to be able to afford Christmas presents. Nikki’s Christmases were always sad, lonely, and present-less.
Then (Y/N) came intot his life, and gave him his beautiful daughter Mia. It was a struggle to adjust to fatherhood. Nikki could barley take care of himself, let alone of a child. But the moment Nikki looked into her eyes and saw his own looking back, he vowed to be the best father ever to Mia.
With a wife came her family and friends, and with a child came actual, happy Christmases. This Christmas, that included inviting (Y/N)’s family and friends for dinner, as well as Nikki’s bandmates.
Nikki’s heart raced with nervousness as the time neared for everyone to arrive. He was in their room, fumbling with the tie he had picked out for the occasion. Nikki was far from being a tie person, but he figured it was the right attire for this situation.
A small knock on the door brought him out of his thoughts. (Y/N) poked her head into the room. “Are you ready, hun? Mom and dad just arrived.”
The mention of his in laws made Nikki’s heart rate spike. “Yeah, Iïżœïżœll be down soon. Just gotta fix this.”
(Y/N) slipped into the room and eyed Nikki’s outfit. “Why are you dressed so...proper?”
“Well, I figured this was the right way to dress with everyone coming over.”
(Y/N) rested her head on Nikki’s shoulder and smiled at him through the mirror. “Just be yourself, baby. Everyone who will be here, you’ve met already. You don’t need to impress anyone.”
She kissed his cheek and headed for the door. “Whatever you decide to wear, do it fast. I will not hesitate to have dinner without you.”
Nikki smiled at her as she left. She always knew how to ease his nerves.
About ten minutes later, Nikki was descending the stairs into the living room. He had decided to leave on the button up shirt, but now with one of his sleeveless shirts on underneath, complete with his ripped up jeans instead of the uncomfortable dress pants he had originally chosen.
His father in law was sat on the floor, playing with Mia and the new dolls she had gotten from “Santa”.
“Hey Nick!” he said when he saw Nikki.
“Hey Mr. (Y/L/N),” Nikki responded. He bent over to kiss Mia’s head. “Mrs. (Y/L/N) helping with dinner?”
“Of course, you know how she is. Can’t leave poor (Y/N) alone.”
Nikki laughed as another knock came on the front door. Before he could even more, Mia was up and racing to answer the door. Her voice trailed back to the living room as she exclaimed, “Uncle (Y/B/N)!”
(Y/B/N) and his wife, Jane, and son, Christopher, entered the room, Mia in her uncle’s arms.
“Hey munchkin,” he said, setting her back on the ground. “Merry Christmas, Nikki.”
“Merry Christmas you guys. Hey Mia, why don’t you go play with Christopher in your play room?”
“Okay!” Both children raced out of the room.
Shortly after, two of (Y/N)’s friends - Tonya and Chrissy - arrived with their husbands - Dan and John - and their daughters - Jessie and Luna. The band boys were the last to arrive, fashionably late as always.
The more people that filled his house, the more anxious Nikki felt. Not because he didn’t like having all these people around, but because he didn’t want to screw this Christmas up for (Y/N) and Mia.
He felt a wave of relief wash over him as (Y/N) called, “Dinner is ready!”
The kids raced to sit around Mia’s small plastic table, the proclaimed “kids table, while their respective parents got their plates. Their four year old golden retriever, Buddy, was laid on the floor next to Mia, but they all knew there was no use in telling the kids not to feed him, especially Mia.
After grace was said, John spoke up first to make conversation, “So guys, any plans for new music in the new year?”
“John, I’m sure the boys don’t want to talk about work right now,” Mrs. (Y/L/N) said.
“Actually, we have an album in the words for next year,” Vince responded. “We’ve been using our time off to write, next up is just recording and figuring out melodies and all that technical stuff.”
“Must be hard on your families for you guys to be travelling all the time” Mr. (Y/L/N) said. “I don’t know how (Y/N) does it.”
Tommy and Vince shuffled awkwardly. Nikki was the only one of the four in a stable relationship, not that Mick cared much about his marital status. Tommy, on the other hand, had just went through a very public divorce, and Vince had just lost his baby girl. The word “family” was a very touchy topic for the two of them.
Luckily, an exclaim of excitement from Luna pulled everyone’s attention away from the question. The kids were giggling together as Buddy licked up whatever Luna had dropped on the ground.
“Luna, baby, don’t feed the dog,” Chrissy scolded.
“It’s fine, Chrissy. Mia feeds Buddy all the time. There’s no use in telling her not to,” (Y/N) said. “That boy is spoiled beyond his wildest dreams because of Miss Mia.”
The three year old smiled innocently at her parents before going back to devouring her food. Nikki and (Y/N) shared a look across the table and Nikki couldn’t help but smile at his beautiful wife.
The dinner small talk continued and, soon enough, the plates were being cleared away. Anything that could fit in the dishwasher, (Y/N) piled in there. The pots and pans used for cooking were the only things that had to be hand washed, and (Y/N)’s mother had gladly took over that job so that (Y/N) could join everyone in the living room.
The kids were playing on the floor while some Christmas movie played on the TV screen. Nikki sat on the couch with (Y/N) cuddled under his arm, his father place to be. The sounds of everyone talking just seemed like a dull murmur to him at that moment, which he was fine with. He wasn’t part of the conversation, and that’s how he liked it.
One by one, everyone began to leave. The kids were starting to get tired, and it was starting to get late. As they were the last to arrive, the boys were the last to leave, hugging (Y/N) and kissing Mia on top of her little head before telling Nikki they’d see him in the new year to work on the album.
With everyone gone, (Y/N) convinced Mia to put her toys away and go to bed. When their daughter was tucked away for the night, (Y/N) joined Nikki in their room. She shed herself of her clothes, leaving her in just her bra and panties, and pulled on the button up shirt Nikki had discarded after everyone left. She crawled into bed next to her husband and curled into his arms.
“I think tonight went well,” she said.
“I think so, too,” Nikki agreed. “I never realized how many people we knew.”
(Y/N) giggled. “It doesn’t feel like a lot until you put everyone in one room, or one house I guess.” She looked up at Nikki. “Were you okay with it, honey? You enjoyed today, right?”
“Of course I did.”
“I know the big family gathering isn’t usually your scene - ”
“Hey,” Nikki cut her off. “Baby, I loved tonight. I loved having everyone over and getting to have a normal Christmas with family and friends and home cooked meals, just as much as I’ve loved having a beautiful wife and daughter to celebrate Christmas with the past three years. I never thought I’d ever have this in my life. Actually, I thought I’d be dead long before now. I was just nervous about ruining tonight for you and for Mia.”
“You’d never ruin anything, Nikki,” (Y/N) told him. “Everyone loves you, myself and Mia especially. Just having you here to spend the day with, that’s all we really need.”
Nikki smiled and kissed her forehead. “Merry Christmas, baby.”
“Merry Christmas, Nikki.”

chronicles of a parisian dumbass 19
i’m sorry i’ve been MIA ; ; i’ve been up to my ears in streaming and also returning to work in-person. either way, i hope you enjoy this update of chronicles. better late than never right?
strap in 💙💖
If Luka could get at his phone, he wouldn’t know what to type. maybe a vague, oh, fuck. Maybe some long thread about how cryptic conversation starters only ever scared him and ended both of his relationships—only to follow up with silence in the face of a couple of likes, or a reply from a sort-of-stranger that would debilitate him, remind him of his own vulnerability, more than it would reassure him. Hell, maybe even a message to Bubbles about how he was right all along that he’d need the luck. Or how Bubbles was right about how he really was in for it the moment he stepped into the bakery.
It’s just that, with the way Marinette Dupain-Cheng is looking at him on her balcony—all sad, scared softness—he gets the feeling that he’s not meant to repeat whatever she tells him.
Luka steels himself, loosens his death grip on the neck of the guitar, and releases a breath he doesn’t want to hold onto anymore. “Yeah,” he says. “Anything.” It comes out choked from how tight his vocal cords are. The way they get sometimes when he plugs in the microphone and hits RECORD.
She pats the floor in front of her and mumbles something about being on equal ground, and he slides down to meet her, guitar in tow. She looks like she wants to touch it, feel now real it is. Or how real he is. As though that moment with his card wasn’t enough.
“It’s about your sister,” she says, her gaze darting away in shame. “And Adrien. Sort of.”
“Okay,” he says. It’s slow, and uncertain, but he hopes it tells her he’s all ears.
Marinette looks at her lap and draws herself up and in. Like she’s wanted to tell him this for a long time. Like she’s only just found the words for it. “We were pretty close,” she says. “In grade school. Not as close as
Rose, yeah, Rose. But we were in the same class for a couple years. I helped her with some class picture stuff, she listened to me yammer on about Adrien after he joined our class
even helped me come up with some ideas on how to
confess to him? Win him over? I don’t know.” She rubs the back of her neck. “Actually, I think all my girl friends did that.”
Luka nods slowly, thinks of the school photos in the album Juleka bought from the thrift shop, tries to match faces in his head. He thinks he sees pigtails. Or maybe a bun. He could be wrong. “So,” he says, “you had it pretty bad for him, huh.”
“I dunno if I had it bad. Like I said, puppy love. I mean, I thought we were soulmates—God, I even named our kids—and I couldn’t even get out a sentence in front of him. I didn’t even like him at first. Plus, we were like, fourteen. I didn’t know any better.”
He shrugs. “Just cause you were fourteen doesn’t mean it wasn’t real.” He thinks he catches a blush stealing across Marinette’s face then, but maybe it’s just a trick of the lights. “So
 what changed?”
“With Juleka? Or Adrien?”
“Both, I guess.”
Marinette turns her head away. “It’s dumb.”
Luka shrugs again, smiling faintly. “So?”
She starts to pick at her nails, like her hands are just looking for something to do. Without thinking, he gives the spinner ring on his index finger a flick to get her attention, then slides it off and hands it to her. She looks at it with questions in her eyes, then slips it on. It barely fits her index finger, and it wobbles when she gives it a curious flick of her own. It seems to get the job done, at least. “He lent me his umbrella,” she mumbles, final but sheepish. Then she follows up, before his brow can so much as furrow, “He was friends with an old bully of mine—Mrs. Bourgeois’s daughter, actually—and I caught him doing something with some gum on my chair. And I
misjudged him. “Another flick. “He was trying to make it up to me. And he said
he didn’t have any friends. He hadn’t even been to school.”
He lets out a hollow laugh. “Rich kids, huh?” And then, at the first sign of her discomfort, “Sorry, I—”
“No,” she says. “It’s okay, I was just thinking
” She presses her thumb into the curve and the aged grooves of the ring more than she actually spins it. Like she cares about losing it more than she cares about comforting herself. “I think everything around me told me that
that was how I was supposed to feel. Unwavering love. Now it’s been years, and I think
I think I just wanted to be that friend for him. I just wanted to be what he was looking for.”
Luka lifts his gaze from the ring to her face. “Who says that’s not love?” He doesn’t know where the words come from. They just feel like the right ones to say.
Marinette freezes, blinking at her hands. She doesn’t say anything; the only sound is the whine of his ring as the metal scrapes together with another flick.
When the silence goes on a bit too long for either of their liking, Luka clears his throat uncertainly. “So, um
”
She speaks so he doesn’t have to. “Juleka,” she murmurs. “Right, um
” It’s hard to tell who’s more uncomfortable between the two of them. Who's really supposed to say what next. “Well, I mean
you can sort of imagine that I wasn’t the only one who wanted to
 y’know. Be with Adrien.”
Luka doesn’t have to imagine, but he nods anyway.
“Not”— Marinette hedges—“not that Juleka was competition or anything. I mean, duh. Just
there was this other girl—there were other girls, and
”
“You don’t have to tell me this,” he urges. “If it still hurts.”
She closes her eyes. Hard, and just for a moment. “Please let me tell you this.”
Her voice wavers. That’s all the cue Luka needs to stay quiet. To let her say everything, or nothing, at her pace.
“Her name was Lila,” she says. “She was a new girl. From Italy. Everyone liked her, except
she lied. Like, compulsively. About connections she had, places she’d been, charity work she did. And she did it because she wanted everyone to like her. She was just telling people what they wanted to hear because the attention made her feel important. She thrived on it.” She gets to her feet. “Sorry, I can’t sit still when I get all
 agitated. You know?”
Luka gestures vaguely at the balcony space. “That makes two of us.”
Marinette takes that as her cue to start pacing and turning on her heels, only pausing every so often to stare up at the night sky. “I was jealous,” she admits. “I was also our class representative. And I might’ve
 used that to my advantage.”
Maybe he shouldn’t say Hell yeah out loud, but he’s definitely thinking it.
“I kept tabs on people’s schedules, you know?” she says. “So we could work on important events and class projects and stuff. There was one we were planning for Adrien, to celebrate that he’d been in school with us for a year and all. And it just so happened that
” she shrugs, feigning apology. “All the days that worked conflicted with all her charity work.”
Luka whistles, half-impressed. “This the part where you tell me she decided to make your life a living hell like some high school drama villain?”
Marinette’s face falls. “Yeah,” she says, and her voice cracks, and he wishes he weren’t right. “But all she did was exactly what I did. Convinced
 everybody
that every little thing I did was proof that I wasn’t a real friend. That I couldn't commit to anything because I committed to everything. And especially with how I avoided her
didn’t trust her, treated her cruelly. she turned everyone against me, a little at a time. Even Alya.” She shifts her weight. “Even Juleka.”
Luka’s heart sinks. He almost wants to reach for her hands when she paces toward him. Almost wants to kick himself for asking, “And
 then what?”
She lingers at the balcony railing, perhaps preferring to tell the night sky the rest. “She got me expelled.”
Luka tenses.
Marinette doesn’t notice. “I’d been telling myself for months that I deserved it. Eventually I just
believed it. Let it happen. Never talked to my classmates again.” She shrugs. “I cried a lot. Transferred schools. Threw myself into
everything. Because if Lila said that was what I was doing—just over-committing—I might as well own it. And because if I was constantly doing something, then I couldn’t stop to think about all the bad things I deserved. And I couldn’t be paranoid about being judged for every little thing I did.”
“What
” He’s trying, with every fiber in him, to keep his heart from breaking for her. To keep himself from blurting out how well he knows the feeling. “What about Alya? And Adrien, and, uh
 Mrs. Bourgeois’s kid?”
Marinette turns to face him, leaning back against the railing, and something in her face—no, everything—changes. There’s a tiredness in her eyes, a twitch in her hands. Lines in her face that shouldn’t be there for decades. As though she’s just lived them all over again. “I didn’t talk to Alya for over a year. I couldn’t be friends with her. I couldn’t even talk to her.” Her gaze lowers. “It was really hard on Nino.”
“Nino?”
“Our friend. well. My friend. Her boyfriend. He’s the one I’ve been helping for that summer project.” She folds her arms tight. “He apologized first. If it weren’t for him, Alya and I still wouldn’t be talking. And ChloĂ©, well
Mrs. Bourgeois’s recommendation letter had nothing to do with her. I entered some contests with my portfolio and won a couple of them.” She flicks her gaze back. “I did run into ChloĂ© once. In New York. I guess she decided to live with her mom for a while. She kind of took the ‘enemy of my enemy is my ally’ approach. Which was
 weird. But tolerable.”
Luka searches her face, even at a distance, and settles on the end of the deck chair again. “What about Adrien?”
The pause that follows is heavy. He can’t tell who feels the weight of it more; he just hopes it’s equal. Marinette scrunches up her lips, braces herself on the railing, and all those decades come back. “Well,” she murmurs. “I guess you don’t really realize what you have until it’s gone, huh.”
He sobers. “He felt guilty.”
“I guess we all did.” She scuffs her heel. “I guess we all do.”
Luka waits. There must be more she wants to say.
There is. She even starts pacing again. “My guidance counselor used to tell me that all that’s necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing. It was supposed to be comforting.”
He raises an eyebrow. “It doesn’t sound very comforting.”
“It wasn’t so bad,” she says, “He reminded me they were still good people, and good people could do bad things, and even if they were still good, it was okay for me to not want those people in my life anymore. I dunno.” She rocks on her feet. “Maybe someone told Adrien the same thing and he couldn’t stand doing nothing anymore.”
“Did you want him?” he asks. “In your life? Do you still?”
She heaves a laugh like it’s hard to do. “Would you think it was messed up if I said yes?”
“No, of course not.”
“He could see it,” she says. “What Lila was doing. That was why he felt so bad. That was why he convinced her to clear my name. Turns out he knows how to use things to his advantage, too.”
Luka softens and runs his fingers over the body of his guitar. “He must love you a lot,” he says, “if he was willing to do all that for you.”
At first, Marinette doesn’t say anything, only grips the railing tighter. He can see it, how her knuckles go white, as though there’s something she’s trying to forget. Then she murmurs, “She tried to talk to me. Juleka did. To
 apologize
I ghosted her. I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. For a while, I didn’t want to deal with anything anymore. I don’t want you to think it didn’t hurt me, because it did. It did hurt.”
Luka’s stomach turns. He puts his guitar down. “That’s why you’ve been so nice to me, huh
” There’s a lump in his throat that he tries to swallow; he only partly succeeds. “You felt guilty about avoiding her and just
wanted to make it up to her.”
Something flashes across Marinette’s face. Horror, maybe. Or shame. “No, I—that’s not what I—”
“I’m not upset.” He’s not. He’s staring at the floor with a pit in his stomach and a shake in his limbs, and his knee is starting to throb again in protest, but he’s not upset. “Really. I get it. If that’s what you needed for your own closure, then
”
A ragged breath and a sniffle cut him off, and he’s barely able to lift his gaze before Marinette kneels in front of him, placing his ring in his palm and closing his fingers around it. He can’t revel in the touch—won’t let himself—because her hands are cold. Trembling. “Don’t go,” she whispers, squeezing his hand tight, and when he looks up there are tears staining her cheeks. “I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t even be asking this of you, just
 please, don’t go.”
Luka learned, a long time ago, to look for the things unsaid. when I can’t make it really meant I’m trying to avoid you. when you’re certainly different really meant God, you are a level of fucked-up I can’t put into words. When we need to talk really meant it's over.
He hears, “Please don’t go,” and he thinks he finds, I want you in my life. Don’t you want me in yours?
Or, maybe, I need you.
Or maybe it’s as simple, as desperate, as, Not you, too.
He’s known Juleka, and maybe even himself, long enough to know what that sounds like in other people.
“Hey,” he murmurs. “Hey, I’m not going.”
Marinette freezes, still staring at their hands. “Why? You have every reason to.”
“Because I’m not.”
“You’ve known me for like, two months, as what? A baker’s daughter? Overly nice customer service? Someone who just gave you kindness out of some dumb high school guilt?”
“I’m not going,” Luka says again.
“You should.” Marinette rubs her eyes dry. “Why not?”
“Because I don’t want to.” He coaxes his hand open, slides the ring back onto her finger. “Isn’t that enough?”
Marinette studies the ring, giving it a cautious flick. As though touching it might break it altogether. “It’s too big.”
“Then I’ll trade you.” Luka takes the ring back, digs around in his pocket, and fishes out a couple of guitar picks. “Here. Take one.”
One of them has a picture of Jagged Stone’s face. The other has a Kitty Section logo, crudely painted on with some of Juleka’s old nail polish. Marinette takes the first one almost instantly with another sniffle, examining it from all sides. “He’s
 my favorite.”
“Yeah.” Luka smiles, not minding that she can’t see it, and thinks of the album cover. “Mine, too.”
She runs her thumb over the faces and edges, blinking away whatever tears threaten to stick around. “Why?” she asks again.
“To prove it.” He tilts his head. “To prove I’m not going.”
She turns the pick this way and that, but doesn’t put it away just yet. Instead, her eyes drift toward his guitar and the amp, and then up to him. “Hey,” she says. “Do you think you could do me a favor?”
“I know,” he tells her. “I won’t tell Jules about any of this. And I won’t make you talk to her if you don’t want to.” And I’ll stay. I swear to God I’ll stay.
“Not that.” Marinette presses her lips together, still sitting on her knees. Still holding on to the pick for dear life. “Can you play it again?”
“What, the song from your playlist?”
“Me.” She looks away, her cheeks flushed and blotchy. “Can you play me. Again.”
Luka’s heart picks up, so loud he can barely hear anything else. Even her. “Yeah,” he says, setting his guitar in his lap, “Yeah, I think I got it this time.”
i guess it’s eleven now.
