Kyle Headcanons (again)

Been thinking about Kyle (again) especially as I go through the artbook but my newest thought is that he more-or-less falls into a job at the Schriver's Lodge as an adult and he's not entirely sure how he feels about it, if he's being entirely honest.

Like he's climbed the ranks up to G/Masters, because his family traditional and his own pride wouldn't accept anything less, but he definitely thought he'd be doing the super glamorous, extremely heroic quests? The kinds that get you immortalized as the Savior-of-So-and-So? Maybe it does bother him a little more than he'd like to admit that his best friend is Mahanan Champion and his brothers' are wracking up achievements and he's just... here. But Reverto taught him and he learned and he climbed the ranks and then he kind of stuck around with the Scrivener's Lodge like a stray cat that refuses to be chased off.

It's not even like he doesn't go on the big quests. He's called up for fortress defense. He gets to travel further off the beaten track than he'd ever dreamed of. But he and Reverto tend to be called up the most frequently when Lilia needs an official field escort. Reverto might be the more approachable of the two, but Kyle's the one with a Mahanan Champion best friend to vouch for him, so he's assigned a lot of the "delicate" work when Riders start getting jumpy about Hunters but not jumpy enough to confront them directly (he personally thinks this is absurd, but so far he hasn't messed up as badly as that time he was 16). He's been sent on wild goose chases to hunt down illegal egg quest doers, and then had to run for his life while trying to return the stolen goods back to the wild where they belonged. He's had more uncomfortable run-ins with poachers and Guild Knights than the rest of his family combined. He even spent 2 weeks hunting down a monster once because he needed to dart it so it could get stitches for a torn wing. He'd returned with some rare shards, but otherwise no glory. This does not actually bother him until he's fairly deep into the cups on pub night.

He gets an office in the Lodge though and a pretty sweet PTO package. This is just... not the life he imagined for himself when he used to picture what hitting the top ranks meant. People constantly think he's at a lower rank than he actually is and it pisses him off. He gets a Palamute at some point but his coworkers swear that there's actually a new dog with him every couple of months. He refuses to elaborate on it, and Tsukino calls him petty.

I did both, because how could I not? :3 I'll start with Cheval first:

My special guy who means so much to me ❤️ He's been a super awesome special fave of mine for So Long (around 8 years...) I literally cannot remember how I was before him. Though now that I think about it, I wouldn't be surprised if he's shaped my taste in characters! Very important character for me in many ways. Integral to my Everything. I wish we could've seen more of his slow descent in the anime than we did tbh. Some of the episodes were SO unnerving and distressing and they were SO good. I need more episodes focused on him in general. Give me more things to ponder about with him. I'm desperate Capcom Please

I know he's the "rival" of mhs1 but you don't actually see him a lot in the game. He's included in an arc of mhs2 but....yeah. Mhs2. I would love to see more character accurate Cheval stuff in the series. And the fandom has always been and is small but MAN I wish people would talk about him more. I can't carry this all myself man. Kyle's cool and all but...Cheval...

As for me not liking his popular ships. As said above the fandom is Small so there's not much there (I guess Chelute is a popular ship? Technically? Definitely who he's shipped with most from what I've seen). But the stuff I have seen I just haven't gelled with. Not for me I Do Not Likey a Lot. I am mildly partially inclined to Micheal and him being shipped (something that does exist apparently!), shrimply because of the Parallels and Dynamics. But overall I really can't see with him being with anyone ever

And for Hyunckel:

I don't got much to say about him sadly 💔 haven't seen enough of him yet and I haven't finished the show so I don't know if he gets any silly dynamics with anyone or anything like that. From what I have seen I really love Everything about him though. He reminded me of Cheval and that's why I love him as much as I do I think!

The squashing (derogatory) is only there in reference to my first impression where I Really Disliked him. Funny how stuff changes!
