| You continue writing a story difficult to punish because the emotions there reflect the emotions that are difficult to reach. Difficult to chew. Emotions that bring you towards thinking about things that seem to be dreams of irrelevant things that could happen and you feel the need to put order to these feelings that are expressed there in that corner, but they are difficult to identify and more so, are more difficult to accept.

Thinking about the post that says "Congratulations! You've fallen for that character's facade" but it's about how Ginger Fitzgerald and Jennifer Check's relationship to monsterhood is misinterpreted as a #FemaleRage and #GoodForHer girlboss power fantasy instead of tragedies about about kids way over their heads surviving a traumatic assault that robbed them of their humanity and now lash out in a desperately grip for some resemblence of power.
#malu.text#ginger snaps#jennifer's body#and in the case of ginger snaps people actively ignore the whole incest thing#Plus; I've also seen an essay comparing negatively Jennifer's Body to Mexican Gothic bc of J.B.'s treatment of race (Which I agree!)#and because Jennifer was essentially punching down by killing guys whose biggest crime was thinking she was kinda hot#and I blame more the internet than the author bc Yeah; that was the point. It was the internet that made it into a feminist power fantasy#when it wasn't supposed to be.

blows my mind there's not even a Chinese coven in The Twilight Saga. no Indian coven. only ONE coven in the Middle East/Africa: EGYPTIAN. no Greek coven, no Iranian coven, no Afghan coven, no Ethiopian coven, no Nigerian coven; FUCK ancient civilizations i guess! no one in South or Central America but the AMAZONS???? for real?????? the POTENTIAL to incorporate LEGENDS and HISTORY and CULTURE wasted! i CANNOT with this author thinking the only vampire civilizations exist in Europe & America!! fuck off directly into the sun!!!

HAPPY 1 YEAR JACKRABBIT BRUJO!!!
That's right! One year ago I released my book! It's been a whirlwind and immensely surreal, but here's what's going on since that time frame:
Physical editions are in the works, and should be out by early next year-ish! I'm fortunate enough to go through a local brick and mortar bookshop/publisher
Relatedly, though it'd be a year from now I'm working on setting up an author event at said bookshop/publisher
Book! 2! The first draft is almost finished at 50k/estimated 65k words! Will be available digitally first before physically
Despite these advancements, I'm still an extremely independent author/publisher, the book is written/edited/cover illustrated all by me. Though wrapped in a magical realism murder mystery, Jackrabbit Brujo is a deeply personal exploration of mixed culture and grief set in Tucson, Arizona through the lens of its mixed Mexican-American protagonist Vel and Hmong-American Shoua.
You can read some reviews on Barnes and Noble, but the best way to support me is through my Ko-Fi Shop! I am currently still part-time so any support is really welcome ;-;

Seeing characters in romance stories just jetting between countries at a moment's notice with no thought for visa; seeing airports as sites of triumphant climaxes and romantic denouements instead of places of fear and danger where a sword hangs above your head— it all breaks off little pieces of my heart. They're constant reminders that my people will never be human enough in the colonial world order to be allowed to move freely around it. No matter what your race, those non-refugees living in the Global North will never understand what it's like to be part of a global ghetto where your passport is nothing but a trembling supplication and humiliation.
#race#racism#westerners will never know the dehumanization of the visa office#the ability to afford a plane ticket and the ability to get your visa stamped goes hand in hand#bc you're not allowed to leave the country unless you can show that you can afford to stay there and come back#you have to swear in blood that you won't overstay a minute longer than you're permitted to and sign your firstborn as collateral#a western airport is the closest i can come to the muslim experience bc the authorities will only care about my skin tone#that season 2 finale of Sense8 where the Mexican‚ and Kenyan and Indian characters of the cluster were able to flee to the US within hours#at the same time as the south korean and westerners#had Lankan fans falling down laughing#we're willing to suspend our disbelief of the science fiction telepathy shenanigans but THAT is a bridge too far#sadly not even the worst of the Wakowskis racefails#I love that show but its Caucasity was aggressive#global south#global north#immigration#refugees#islamophobia#no fly list#white supremacy#coloniality#western imperialism#colonial capitalism#knee of huss

#no cc#art#book covers#the yellow wallpaper#i also recommend mexican gothic as a yellow wallpaper retelling#charlotte parker gilman (author of tyw) was racist and in favor of use of eugenics#so i liked that silvia moreno-garcia (author of mg) used eugenics and racism as major themes in her retelling

Sometimes I wonder if in hindsight I made a mistake by reading Mexican Gothic first because so far Silvia Moreno-Garcia's other books have yet to compare to the pure fascination, revulsion, anxiety, excitement, and absolute love that book inspired in me. Like, did I just start with the absolute peak of this author's talents and spoil the rest of her body of work for myself? The other stuff I've read from her isn't even close to bad, more like above average to good...it's just not been the lightning in a bottle that was Mexican Gothic for me thus far.
#mexican gothic#reader problems#seriously mexican gothic is the book i recommend to literally everyone i know with so much as an inkling of interest in horror#i love it so much#but silver nitrate and the doctor of doctor moreau just didn't hit for the same way at all#i enjoyed them well enough but they just haven't affected me the way mexican gothic did#i still want to read more of the author's work but if velvet was the night doesn't at least come close#then i might hesitate to reach for another moreno-garcia book in the future

I kinda hate existing.. Anyways, new OCS!! Yay!!! I am OCmaxxing!!!! 💗💗 here's some info on em!!
XANDER ROGER
- he's a famous author who's in his 40s-60s! But he despises his fans AND readers..
- he usually goes by his last name, most people get confused when they realize "Roger" isn't his first name-
- he's bi-curious
- he has a slight addiction to alcohol (specifically beer) but he tends to prefer cigarettes
- he had like 6 wives, he's currently single now
- he tends to forget to take care of himself because of work
- he always wears sunglasses! Mainly coloured ones
- he's very intimidating, he's a grumpy dude but mainly cuz he's tired and annoyed-
- he can get verbally abusive (but he would NEVER hit anyone)
- he writes his works with a typewriter because he hates most modern technology 😭
- he thinks Miu is pretty annoying but as much he hates to admit it.. He enjoys her company and somewhat sees her as a daughter figure? But he tries pushing that thought away
- he usually goes to book festivals and conventions to sign books
- not rlly important but he's based off Harlan Ellison!!
MIU MĀHOE
- Miu isn't her real name, she named herself after an anime character!
- she's enjoy writing fanfics as escapism from reality
- she likes horror stories and she's also an otaku
- she admires and looks up to Xander alot! And tends to follow him around alot everytime she sees him
- she's a scenekid!
- she's Polynesian and Hispanic (Hawaiian and Mexican)
- Miu sometimes visits xander's house.. Nobody knows how she got his address-
- she wants to work side by side with Xander some day
- she's blind in her left eye due to an accident that happened when she was at an convention in a cosplay.. She got hit with a yaoi paddle ☠️
- speaking of conventions, she's goes to alot of them! Specifically anime cons, comi-cons, ect
- she enjoys cosplaying she sometimes forces Xander to join her, LOL (he usually gives in) miu tends to spend alot on money on her cosplays that she usually goes broke- so her regular clothes look "cheap"-ish
- she sprinkles a bit of Japanese and Spanish into her sentences, mainly Japanese tho-
- her pupils are always very small fsr
- she's recovering from depression (incase you didn't notice, she has cut marks on her wrists and thighs)
Tell me what y'all think of em!!! Please!!! :333

hey @ my remaining rebelcaptain mutuals, i have a weird literary ask: I need a book modern!Cassian (TWTaS) owns but has never read. He's using it as long-term hiding space for some papers but I kind of want something that makes sense for him to have anyway. Probably a Spanish-language book since he would have had it since at least his early twenties? But he was learning English, so I could also make that work, as long as it was published before 2006-ish. Would love something that fits thematically. But also if it's out of character enough, it could be funny. (If it fits thematically for Jyn, that could also work!)
#listen as much as this fic is about loneliness and loss#i do feel it would be a bit on the nose to pick 100 years of solitude#my brain is empty the only other books i remember are the great gatsby and slaughterhouse-five#both are thematically WAY off so#help#i've only read one book by a mexican author and listen. pedro páramo would WORK. i *think*.#i really didn't get that book tho so i am very reluctant to use it#writing#the world through a scope

"Without a doubt the best work on the Second Mexican Empire ever produced in English. Jonas maintains narrative momentum even as he provides serious analysis, moving with equal dexterity through the complications of court politics in different European states, church-state relations in Mexico, and the battlefields in which men of different origins killed each other in pursuit of their personal ambitions and ideological passions."
