Metrojet Flight 9268, Sylvia B
Series: The History Of The 21st Century I think we all tend to forget too easily, so I created a series of artworks under the theme "The History of the 21st Century." My work does not take on any political perspective, yet rather commemorates events so as keep these past episodes alive in our common memory. In doing so the art provokes viewers to understand our lives today and the influence it has had of the most recent past along with its impact on current global policies. The project consists of multiple works grouped around current events. Let us remind ourselves of the repercussions that can affect our laws and how we see each other. This is one of the artworks from this series. 21st century Hell. Fear, Hate, Destruction, Pain, Harm. Malevolence. Metrojet Flight 9268 - 31 October 2015. A terror attack that caused the jetliner to crash over Northern Sinai, Egipt. The aircraft was carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members who were all killed. I' ve tried to show the fear, pain, destruction, harm. I wanted to show the terror. I pay tribute to all innocent victims.

Nemov was the officer of Metrojet Flight 9268, which disintegrated in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Saturday.
He had 12,000 hours of running know-how, means that nearly a year and a half of his life had been spent flying a plane. That came to an end when the flight of which he was captain — on route from the Egyptian resort of…

Here’s one from the archives, this is from 2007 at Baltimore-Washington, N329SW, a Boeing 737-300, in the original “Mustard Rocket” colors of Southwest Airlines. For a long time, one of US Airways’ biggest hubs was Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI) a legacy from Piedmont Airlines, one of the many smaller airlines that were amalgamated over time to form USAir which in turn became US Airways. In the 1990s US Airways found its hub at BWI under siege from completion- Delta had its Delta Express operation moving in, AirTran was breaking out of its long time southeastern area of operations, and more concerning, Southwest had just come to town. Metrojet was set up as a low-cost airline within US Airways at BWI with the first flights in 1998. Things didn’t go well for Metrojet- instead of taking passengers from its competition, most of its passengers came from US Airways, exacerbating losses even further at the parent airline. Herb Kelleher famously told the Baltimore press “I have a joke that has only one word. Wanna hear it? Metrojet.” 9/11 led US Airways to invoke a force majeure clause in its labor contracts that resulted in Metrojet being folded back into US Airways with the last flights in December 2001. By that point, US Airways had lost the “Battle of Baltimore” to Southwest Airlines; US Airways had cut 60% of its BWI flights to cut its losses and Southwest would win the day, becoming the dominant airline at BWI to this day. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KBWI #BWI #Baltimore #Maryland #airport #planespotting #instaplane #instagramaviation #Avgeekery #Boeing #737 #Southwest #SWApics #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #Avgeekery #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge (at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI))
